TURMION KÄTILÖT - RELEASE NEW SINGLE 'PULSSI'

TURMION KÄTILÖT release today their second single ‘Pulssi’ featuring Kasperi Heikkinen from BEAST IN BLACK. The single coincides with the publication of the band's first autobiography ‘En tahdo unohtaa koskaan’ (‘I never want to forget’). The new album RESET will be released on October 25th via Nuclear Blast Records.

MC Raaka Pee comments about 'Pulssi': You know you're living when you feel your pulse up to your gums. The song arrangement and lyrics were born in one evening without any pre-planning or notes. That night the moon burned my face. This time, the song was kept really simple. I wanted to include a riff that I would have been able to play as a 14-year-old. Sort of like Smoke On The Water for many youngsters at the time when they first tried playing the guitar. For me, that was the 90s and you can hear that kind of middle school riffing in Pulssi. Works damn well I think! Give it a try yourself!

He continues about Reset: "I would say that Reset is like a bastard son or daughter of previous records - with tasty new spices added to the whole thing. It has everything you could ever want from us and more. One of the special twists of this album is the vocal parts: the fierce screams are counterbalanced by a huge melodiousness - often at the same time."

About TURMION KÄTILÖT:
TURMION KÄTILÖT, the Finnish-singing industrial and electronic metal band hailing from the barren wastelands of Savo, is rapidly becoming a new favorite among open-minded metal fans in the mid-2020s. The odds of their rise to prominence are nothing short of great. Known for their ecstatic and theatrical concerts, TURMION KÄTILÖT invites you to dive into their twisted world of "disco metal." The current lineup features singers MC Raaka Pee and Shag-U, guitarist Bobby Undertaker, bassist Master Bates, keyboardist RunQ, and drummer DQ. Since the early 2000s, this vivid sextet has been delivering a unique blend of electrifying heavy music, characterized by its peculiar, perverted, and catchy style. Their journey includes numerous sold-out concerts, gold and platinum records, and Emma nominations (Finland's equivalent to the Grammys).

TURMION KÄTILÖT's depraved disco ball has also shone beyond Finland. Many fans remember their legendary European tour with PAIN in 2011. In the 2020s, their fame continued to grow, highlighted by their selection as the opening band for NIGHTWISH's sold-out European arena tour in 2022. Now, TURMION KÄTILÖT is ready to unveil their latest creation: Reset. Founding member and main songwriter MC Raaka Pee explains, "Reset is simply the perfect name for our new studio album. For us, Reset is more about taking advantage of everything we've learned over two decades and then adding new nuances to our metallic disco vortex." With twenty years and ten studio albums behind them, Turmion Kätilöt continues to push their boundaries. "We have relentlessly raised our own bar with every record," says the band. "Reset is our best album to date, and we simply couldn't be more satisfied."

Reset features all the hallmarks of TURMION KÄTILÖT: twisted synths, underfoot grooves, pounding beats, and cryptic lyrics, all with a stronger musical vision than ever before. The album is described as a "bastard child" of their previous records, with new spices added. The vocal parts, a mix of fierce screams and melodiousness, add a special twist.

"We have gained more courage to explore drastic musical and lyrical angles," the band states. "Sometimes the lyrics and the musical mood seem to come from completely different worlds, but that's exactly what makes the whole thing fascinating. That's what Turmion Kätilöt is all about!"
Key tracks from the album include singles "Yksi jumalista," "Pulssi," and "Sinä 2.0," though the band emphasizes that the entire album is a varied entity. "If we had to decide now which new songs to perform at future shows, we would play the whole new album!
"

The production of Reset benefits from the powerful sound engineered by keyboardist and producer RunQ in his brand-new studio. The album's sound palette ranges from completely organic to entirely electronic, creating a hugely powerful combination. Reset also offers an interesting opportunity to compare old and new TURMION KÄTILÖT with the song 'Schlachter,' a new German version of their classic 'Teurastaja.' Originally released on their debut album, this updated version features new arrangements and lyrics. While the band remains committed to singing in Finnish, they remain open to future possibilities. "In the future, we can sing in English, German, Swedish, or we may invent our own language. Let's see." MC Raaka Pee concludes with a confident smile, "Trust us, we know what we are doing. For this band, it took twenty years, but we finally know what we are doing. Now we are just going to enjoy the ride. So, if someone is interested in a wild ride on the twisted side, please reset and jump in!"

STEVE HILL ANNOUNCES NEW SINGLE 'DEVIL'S HANDYMAN' FROM UPCOMING ALBUM HANGING ON A STRING

Produced at Studio 606 in Los Angeles last January, the second single from Steve Hill’s upcoming album The Devil's Handyman, is as dark and moody as can be.

Recorded live off the floor by the man called by Germany’s Guitar Magazine "the most impressive one man band on the planet", it’s hard to believe that what you’re hearing is only one guy.

The song is about an all-too-common story in the world of rock and roll: addiction. The narrator is the dealer, talking to his clients, acting like a comforting friend at first and gradually taking control over his life. It starts with the line

« Hey there buddy, good to see you again »

and ends with

«  I’ll be there until you start to lose your soul and fall apart »

The Video was directed by Mat Lucas and shot at Studio 606. The shooting of the performance where Steve is playing guitar and drums is the actual recording of the take that was used on the album, done on the first day of recording, January 8, 2024.

It is one of Steve Hill’s best ever performance in over 25 years as a recording artist with 13 albums to his name. It features deep blues slide guitar over a  Zeppelinesque heavy groove and vocals that echo as much Howlin Wolf as James Hetfield.

The first single World Gone Insane has been available on all platforms since September 6 and the video can be seen below.

SOILWORK Release Video For New Single 'Spirit Of No Return'

Swedish melodic death metal legends SOILWORK are back with a brandnew single, 'Spirit of No Return,' along with a powerful and visually striking music video. The track marks a significant milestone in the band’s evolution, with longtime live guitarist Simon Johansson recently officially joining the ranks of the band.

'Spirit of No Return' showcases SOILWORK’s signature blend of frenzied intensity, soaring melodies, epic arrangements, and a touch of progressive complexity - traits that have cemented their reputation over the last decades. Johansson’s contribution to the song’s writing channels the band's essence while bringing fresh energy to their unmistakable sound.

The video is equally captivating, featuring a stunning sequence where the iconic SOILWORKsymbol is reforged, representing the band’s resurgence and renewed strength. This visual narrative perfectly complements the song’s theme of perseverance and transformation.

Frontman Björn “Speed” Strid comments on the song: 'Spirit Of No Return' is a fierce reminder of the past, but also an introduction of the new SOILWORK era, where we’ve taken the thrashier early days and dressed it in a new heavier suit. Lyrics are dealing with the urge of belonging and fitting in - and how it in the end can be disastrous as you abandon your true self.”

Keep of Kalessin Sign with Season of Mist

Norway is known for pioneering a legendary branch of extreme metal, but no band embodies the scene's epic resolve quite like Keep of Kalessin

This band has always possessed fantastic foresight. After all, they are named after one of Ursula K. Le Guin's arch-dragons. Their original lineup did split after two albums of dark, fast and war-faring black metal, but over the past two decades, founding member Arnt Obsidian has brought Keep of Kalessin into the national spotlight. While he and his colossal crew have toured with the likes of Satyricon, Behemoth and Dimmu Borgir, they've carved their own legacy by forging a different path.

With seven albums and three EPs under their hilt, Keep of Kalessin brandish an epic arsenal of extreme metal. The band's mastery at welding blackened melodies and scouring death metal riffs with magical keys and misty synthesizers has rewarded them handsomely. They've scored two Spellemannprisen nominations and scaled to the top of Norway's album charts. To further test their mettle, they became the first Norwegian metal band to compete for a spot in the Eurovision Song Contest.

Today, Keep of Kalessin are cracking open the next chapter of their long and prosperous journey. The band have signed with Season of Mist, who will release their next two albums and reissue some of the defining moments from their extensive back catalogue.

"We are very proud and excited to announce that we have signed with Season of Mist", Arnt Obsidian says on behalf of his bandmates Robin Isaksen and Wanja Gröger. "I have known Michael for more than 20 years. He has always been passionate about the music and very supportive of his signings. Back in 1999, Keep of Kalessin played three shows in Norway with Bloodthorn, who were signed to Season of Mist at the time. Michael traveled all the way up from France just to see them.

"Our paths have crossed many times since that tour. I've watched Michael build one of the strongest metal labels in the world. His staff shares in his extreme passion. What they've accomplished is an amazing feat.

"Keep of Kalessin has always been the underdog, the loner, the different kid. We're a unique band and cannot be put into a certain category. It's been difficult finding a home where our potential can be nurtured and harnessed to its full potential. But after talking with Michael and seeing how we fit with Season of Mist's roster, I'm confident that we've now found a label that understands and can truly support us while we take the band to the next level. You can be sure that Keep of Kalessin will return with the best Epic Extreme Metal we've ever done in 2025!"

This year, Keep of Kalessin signed with Season of Mist, who will release the band's next album in 2025, along with reissues from their back catalogue.

EKOH Announces New Album "Pressure" + Shares "Throne" Feat. Skydxddy

From the purveyor of some of the best, most impassioned hip-hop and metal collaborations out there, EKOH is aiming to give his fans what they’re looking for this October: a full album. Due on October 29, EKOH will be releasing Pressure, an LP that will encapsulate the very things that have catapulted this young MC to the top of the Octane charts with every single. Pre-order it here.

Packed into each of the 15 tracks are elements of his coined genre, "heart hop," high-energy songs that highlight what makes the melding of rap and anthemic vocals so very special.

For fans of lyricism that cuts through the monotony with truthful, honest depictions of the world, Pressure will be a treasure trove of frenzied songs, including "THRONE," which is EKOH’s latest collab with internet-favorite, Skydxddy. Listen below.

On "Throne," EKOH offers, "This is our rap and rock crossover about overcoming your personal demons and all of the people who doubted you to end up back on your throne."

A dedication to triumph over defeat and paying homage to your own perseverance, Pressure, EKOH describes, "was the weight I carried through every moment of making this album. It wasn't just creative pressure — it was the pressure to hold everything together in my life, to meet expectations, to stay strong in my sobriety. That feeling consumed everything — my stress, my fear, even my joy. Every song is a release, a way to finally breathe again under all that weight. I don't know if pressure always creates diamonds, but it gave me the most raw, vulnerable, and boundary-pushing music I've ever made."

An MC with a business man's acumen, EKOH's crowd-pleasing hit "Freeverse 3" spawned a sponsorship and perhaps one of the biggest collabs of his career, a fully EKOH customized Vans shoe — check out EKOH's skate shoe here

Not a stranger to bringing crowds a set they didn't expect, Pressure is fueled by robust musicians including Buddy Nielsen from Senses Fail and the power-hitting, world renowned rapper, Tech N9ne.

Catch the show that has kicks flying through the air as EKOH travels across the U.S., including a few festival stops and venues across the states. Never one to disappoint, keep your eyes on this Vegas native who has his pulse on the genres that move bodies and bang heads — more coming your way soon!

Caliban Share Video for New Single "Echoes"

After the "I Was A Happy Kid Once" release, CALIBAN are digging even deeper with their new single, "Echoes," which is available on all digital platforms. Listen here.

"'Echoes' is a reflection of the chaos that comes with fighting your inner demons," the band comments. "We wanted to capture that feeling of being trapped in your own mind, where every struggle seems endless, like you're caught in a loop. This song is about losing control but also the desperate fight to break free from the lies and darkness within."

While the message of the song is reflective and serious, CALIBAN decided to have a much more light-hearted approach to the video that echoes recent live shows. It was the first featuring Iain Duncan on bass and vocals.

Industrial icon PIG presents 'Feast of Agony' EP & 'Fallout' video. Colossal North American tour kicks off September 28

Alternative music legend Raymond Watts a.k.a. PIG presents his new 'Feast of Agony' EP, released via Metropolis Records, and new video for 'Fallout', undeniably the most catchy among the six coruscating tracks found on this release.

'Feast of Agony' is the sound of PIG crushing the grinding wheel of grief with the seed of hope and relief. Watts’ anger burns and binds as he cooks up more kick-ass music, begging you to march to the drumbeat of hope with these encounters with the Lord of Lard, in which he brings word to wordless and truth to the truthless.

The EP kicks off with the monstrous 'Heroin for the Damned', screaming like a demon officiating at his own funeral while trying to stem the wounds of reality with the joy juice of depravity, which was co-written with Watts’ collaborator-in-chief Jim Davies, a longtime member of Pitchshifter, but best known for his acidic and acerbic guitar lines on many chart hits by The Prodigy. The remaining tracks are a cure that’s kind… and a call to the deserts of desperation from the promised land of truth.

This EP arrives on the trail of the remastered reissue of PIG's landmark 1995 ‘Sinsation’ album (originally released via Trent Reznor's Nothing Records) and his latest studio album ‘Red Room’, released earlier this year - both albums released via Metropolis.

Raymond Watts aka PIG has enjoyed a stellar career since starting out as a pioneering member of the mid-1980s industrial rock scene. As well as releasing fourteen albums as PIG, he has toured with KMFDM (he was a member of the band in their early days), Nine Inch Nails and Einstürzende Neubauten, written music for fashion and film (for Chloe, Marios Schwab, Halston and The Row), created exhibition sound design for the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, and collaborated with the late fashion icon Alexander McQueen.

Watts will continue his oration against hopelessness, hypocrisy and the ever creeping tide of despair on PIG's ‘Heroin For The Damned’ tour across North America, kicking off on September 28. Joined by Curse Mackey and Unitcode : Machine, this 40-date itinerary follows PIG's headlining set at Cold Waves XII in Chicago.

As of September 27, the 'Feast of Agony' EP is available everywhere, including Apple Music, Spotify and Bandcamp, along with the 'Red Room' and 'Sinsation (Remastered)' albums. The vinyl edition of 'Feast of Agony' is only available on the tour. Tickets can be ordered at https://linktr.ee/ pigtour2024

Pete International Airport presents 'Out Past The Razor Wire (HYM Post-Industrial Remix)' from November EP

Portland-based Pete International Airport presents the single 'Out Past The Razor Wire (HYM Post-Industrial Remix)', created by Holy Youth Movement, a long-term PIA collaborator. This racy adrenaline-filled track is the second taste of Pete International Airport's new 'Sea of Eyes' EP, set for release in November via cult label Little Cloud Records,

Influenced by the energy of rave culture, this is a sonic whirlwind of excitement for listeners, which would have fit perfectly in such iconic soundtracks as 'Hackers' or 'Snatch' with its motorik groove and dynamic energy.

Pete International Airport revolves around Peter G. Holmström of The Dandy Warhols and Sun Atoms, whose sonic vision takes us on a meticulously crafted psychedelic journey into the dark heart of electronic rock. Named after a Dandies song, this project nails the elusive aesthetic of unexpected yet inviting sound art. PIA's quest to build immersive soundscapes that are also timeless songs is successful, in part, due to Holmström’s uncanny ability to curate and his penchant for dropping collaborators into challenging creative spaces—both virtual and actual—then letting them duke it out.

The 'Sea of Eyes' EP consists of five tracks that are rooted in PIA's third album 'It Felt Like The End of the World', released in late 2023 - all five of them co-authored with and featuring vocals by Alexander Hackett. They earlier introduced 'Sea of Eyes' featuring vocals by Alexander Hackett of Montreal dream-gaze outfit Pang Attack. The intriguing shadow-dance video was directed by Francesca Bonci.

The 'Sea of Eyes' EP was mixed by Jeremy Sherrer at Spooky Electric Co. (Modest Mouse, The Shins, The Dandy Warhols) and mastered by Dave Coley at Elysian Mastering. Most tracks were recorded at Holmström’s Air Traffic Control studio in Portland, but drums were recorded at The Trench Studios by The Dandy Warhols' sound engineer Gregg Williams..

"I really wanted to showcase Alexander Hackett’s vocal and lyrical contributions to my record so, using the excuse of a video for 'Sea of Eyes' to release an EP of remixes seemed like a good idea.  Of course lots of remixes don’t use the vocals…anyway…I got to work with Andy Bell (Ride) and Tom Smith (Holy Youth Movement) as well as long time collaborator Daniel Sparks (omniscuro) to put it together," says Holmström.

"I first heard Pang Attack when SUUNS shared a track on their socials.  At first I was disappointed because it didn’t sound like SUUNS (I was obsessing on them hard) but, for some reason, I kept listening. There was something there that I connected with. Alex’s lyrics and melodic choices were perfect and I had to find out if he was interested in working with me. 'Sea Of Eyes' is the second song that Alex and I collaborated on. His lyrics perfectly capture the vibe of the world at that time".

The 'Sea of Eyes' EP is a logical progression (and continuation) of 'It Felt Like The End of the World' and the 'Tic Tac' 7" single, which jointly boast the cream of the neo-psychedelic crop, including Slowdive's Rachel GoswellThe Brian Jonestown Massacre's Anton Newcombe, Dion Lunadon (A Place To Bury Strangers, The D4), Cheap Trick's Tom Petersson, Lisa Elle of Dark Horses, and members of Sun Atoms, Guiding Light and Hopewell.

As of October 1, 'Out Past The Razor Wire (HYM Post-Industrial Remix)' will be be available exclusively via Bandcamp, where the EP is available for pre-order (digitally and on limited edition cassette). The album 'It Felt Like The End of the World' can also be found there, available digitally, on CD and vinyl as a Deluxe double-album with gatefold sleeve. The 'Tic Tac' single with Rachel Goswell and it's 7" vinyl version are available both via Pete International Airport and The Dandy Warhols.

Riotous Indignation Releases New Single "Indoctrinate" with Music Video

With only 12-weeks passing since their last single "Wheel of Misfortune" premiered on Decibel Magazines website, Riotous Indignation has just released another single.

The new single, titled Indoctrinate, sets its lyrical focus on how the divisive, manipulative, and corrupt nature of Americas failing political class has a deliberate and negative effect on the country’s citizenry.

“With a pending U.S. presidential election coming in the next few weeks, I wanted to get this single out because I feel that it will touch a lot of people who are completely disgusted by what is currently happening in our government, but who may not be willing to discuss these things publicly. For those people, I hope they can find their voice in this song.” – states Mike Repel, the bands frontman and lyricist.

Musically the track has some strong elements and a catchy melody that make it memorable yet haunting at the same time. It also contains two guitar solos, the first featuring Scare Crow (Berator, Never We See) who also contributed solos to the band’s prior releases Lords of War, and The End.

Scare Crow stated that:

“This new song touches on how a lack of moral compass can affect people in power. Newer generations are being born and raised with a sense of underlying slavery to the government and other components of our society which seem to inhibit free speech and also seem to be controlling our every move. With crushing riffs and cunning lyrics, this new release takes you through a depth of how we as a society must break free from what destroys our true will.”

The second solo in this song is hammered out by Repel, who is also the song’s composer and producer.

Founded by Bob Clayton and Mike Repel in 2015, the band released their debut, The Violentus Musicae EP, in early 2016. The EP was recorded and produced by Repel, and was mixed at Dexter Labs Studio in Milford CT. by Nick Bellmore and was Mastered by Chris “Zeuss” Harris.

Since the release of The Violentus Musicae EP in May of 2016, they have obtained positive press coverage and have confirmed airplay on over 50 internet radio stations, some terrestrial radio, and podcasts. This also includes a twenty-two week charting run for their song "Secret Societies"on Radio Naklo’s Czadlista & Czadlista Post Scriptum Radio Show in Poland.

ABOUT BEHEMOTH:

In the annals of metal there is no band more synonymous with an unswerving commitment to the single-minded defiance of expectation than BEHEMOTH. Over the course of their remarkable 33-year career, these Polish hellraisers – spearheaded by Adam Darski, aka Nergal – are more than just the architects of their country’s legendary extreme metal scene. Over the course of over three decades and twelve albums, Nergal’s singular vision has forged BEHEMOTH into something far more than a mere black metal band. Beyond any confines of genre, they have grown to become nothing less than the personification of rebellion, individuality and unflinching self-expression informed by a literate worldview and worldliness that’s resulted in a locking of horns with everything from the mainstream press to the Polish Catholic church – most notably manifesting in Nergal’s trial for blasphemy in 2010 that only served to expose the deep-seated hypocrisies that his music seeks to challenge.

LUNA KILLS Sign With SharpTone Records + Shares Video For New Single "slay ur enemies"

LUNA KILLS, the rising alt-metal powerhouse from Finland, is thrilled to announce their signing to SharpTone Records.

"We are beyond excited to announce our signing with SharpTone Records! Their dedication to supporting artists' individuality, in both sound and style, is something we truly vibe with," the band states. "We can't wait to get started on this new chapter for LUNA KILLS together!"

To mark the occasion, the band has unleashed their blistering new single "slay ur enemies," a track that dives deep into the raw emotions of a panic attack. With raw and authentic lyricism, paired with their signature heavy sound, LUNA KILLS are proving their ability to blend dark, personal experiences with explosive, aggressive energy. The single was mixed and mastered by Jeff Dunne (Make Them Suffer, Knocked Loose, Ice Nine Kills, Disturbed).

"'slay ur enemies' describes an inner dialogue and feelings during a panic attack," lead vocalist Lotta Ruutiainen shares. "Mostly, the lyrics depict the hopelessness of those emotions, but also the will to fight and endure and survive this absolute nightmare. The song actually pretty much wrote itself right before we hit the studio. We listened to the demo in the middle of the night, thinking either we had all collectively lost our sanity, or the song was a f*cking banger."

Watch the video below.

ABOUT LUNA KILLS:
LUNA KILLS are, without a doubt, one of the most refreshing modern metal act in the scene, combining alternative and nu-metal vibes with electronics inspired by game soundtracks. Their frontwoman Lotta, with her jazz singing background and incredible fry scream vocals, brings the audience to their knees — unless they are speeding around in moshpits, as often witnessed in their fiery live shows. Even as newcomers, LUNA KILLS have already opened the door to their beloved gaming world as their music is featured in the hit mobile app Beatstar. The band, first formed in 2019, has now taken their first steps on European stages, gained the attention of multiple rock radios in their native Finland and are moving forward towards their first full-length album with SharpTone Records.

LUNA KILLS ARE:
Lotta Ruutiainen — Vocals
Samuli Paasineva — Guitar
Jimi Kinnunen — Drums
Lassi Peltonen — Bass

TRASHCAN SINATRAS' JOHN DOUGLAS releases 'Still or Sparkling?' EP & headlines US tour

Celebrated songsmith John Douglas, co-founder and guitarist of beloved Scottish music icons Trashcan Sinatras, presents his new 4-track 'Still Or Sparkling EP', released via Reveal Records,
along with a video for the title track 'Still Or Sparkling?'.

A slight move away from his acoustic debut album while maintaining a natural live-take approach, the new EP involves some stellar musicians, including Eddi Reader (of Fairground Attraction fame and a solo artist in her own right), Boo Hewerdine (The Bible), Kevin Mcguire and Alan Kelly - all also part of Reader's band.

Musically, the arrangement nods its head to Roger Miller’s finger-clicking, double bass driven 'King Of The Road' with added soft husky harmonies from John’s partner, Eddi Reader. Lyrically, the song evokes the early days of any relationship…. the getting to know each other phase, flirtatious and light. The song also name checks the unlikely trio of Shirley Collins, Annie Briggs and Michelangelo

"This is a new song of new love… the fresh, early days. Inspired by a late night date with my future wife, spent listening to folk records, eating figs and getting to know each other,”  says John Douglas.

Starting October 1, Douglas also embarks on the 'Lost in North America Tour - Part One'. This first American headlining tour offers an intimate snapshot of Douglas' talent, charisma and depth. He is joined for West coast and Midwest dates by Lily Vakili of Vakili Band, and for East Coast dates by award-winning singer-songwriter Lauren Calve.

There are two dates on this tour involving special guest appearances by fellow Trashcans Frank Reader and Paul Livingston - both of them appear in Seattle, with Reader also joining Douglas in LA.

In 2023, John Douglas released his eponymous debut album via Reveal Records, recorded with renowned producer Mark Freegard (New Model Army, Lush, The Breeders, Del Amitri, Marillion). Other highlights of the year include a UK headlining tour, UK Top-40 charting of Trashcan Sinatras' reissued album 'Cake' (33 years since debuting), and a Trashcan Sinatras documentary, produced by award-winning journalist Ken Sweeney, featuring Douglas performing beloved Trashcans' songs.

Douglas recently marked the 20th anniversary of the milestone Trashcan Sinatras album 'Weightlifting' with a live rendition of 'Weightlifting'. Earlier, he shared the moonlit video for 'Oranges & Apples', preceded by 'I Just Want To Go Home', 'Lost', 'I'm Not The Fella', 'Always' and 'Leave Me Alone'.

As of September 27, the 'Still or Sparkling?' single will be available from fine online platforms. Until the EP's official release date of November 8, the full EP is available exclusively via Bandcamp. This EP will be available on CD during Douglas' North America tour, which kicks off in Los Angeles. His debut album will also be offered on CD and on vinyl here for the first time, as well as Douglas' mini-book 'Rambling - How I got here to your town on my own', featuring superb photos by Stephanie Gibson.

Kris Kristofferson: June 22, 1936 – September 28, 2024

Artist, singer, songwriter, actor and activist Kris Kristofferson passed away peacefully in his home in Maui, Hawaii Saturday, September 28, surrounded by family. He was 88 years old.

Born Kristoffer Kristofferson in the border town of Brownsville, Texas on June 22, 1936, Kristofferson changed the language of country music, with extraordinary internal rhymes, Shakespearean iambic pentameter, and socially progressive subject matter that found the personal within the political.

He was a Rhodes Scholar in Oxford, a defensive back, a bartender, a Golden Gloves boxer, a gandy dancer, a forest firefighter, a road crew member, and an Army Ranger who flew helicopters. He was a peacenik, a revolutionary, an actor, a superstar, a sex symbol, and a family man. He was commissioned to teach English at West Point, though he gave that up to become a Nashville songwriting bum.

Sam Peckinpah cast him as Billy the Kid. Willie Nelson recorded an entire album of his songs, then joined him in supergroup The Highwaymen, with Johnny Cash and Waylon Jennings. Muhammad Ali sat side-stage at his concerts. Mama Cass Elliot called him “No Eyes.” Atlantic Monthly published his short stories.

He believed that songwriting is a spiritual communion of mind, body, and soul, and he believed that William Blake was correct in asserting that anyone divinely ordered for spiritual communion but buries his talent will be pursued by sorrow and desperation through life and by shame and confusion for eternity.

“(Blake) is telling you that you’ll be miserable if you don’t do what you’re supposed to do,” Kristofferson said in the Ken Burns’ documentary Country Music.

Kristofferson’s devotion to spiritual communion brought much in the way of sorrow, desperation, and misery, but it led to triumph.

His work ethic was evident from an early age, celebrated by his parents and, when he was a teenager, a construction supervisor on Wake Island said he was the best worker on the construction crew.

“I took pride in being the best laborer, the guy that could dig the ditches the fastest,” he said. “Something inside me made me want to do the tough stuff . . . Part of it was that I wanted to be a writer, and I figured that I had to get out and live. I know that’s why I ran in front of the bulls in Pamplona.”

The son of a major general and a philanthropic mother, Kristofferson spent his childhood learning lessons in honor and civility, though he arrived at different notions of these things than did his parents. He graduated high school in San Mateo, California, in 1954, then attended Pomona College, where he played football (“I was pretty slow, but I was small,” he said) and studied writing under Dr. Frederick Sontag, who pushed him to apply for a Rhodes scholarship. At Oxford, he wrote stories and examined the works of William Blake.

Kristofferson earned his master’s from Oxford in 1960, then returned to California, married his high school sweetheart, joined the Army, and learned to fly helicopters. In the Army, he wrote funny songs inspired by Hank Williams, until he fell under the sway of folk maestro Bob Dylan.

“The direction Dylan was pointing in made it a respectable ambition, a respectable thing to do,” Kristofferson said.

The Army assigned Kristofferson to teach literature at West Point, a duty that frightened him once he found that he’d have to turn in lesson plans, explaining to superiors exactly what he’d be teaching in class. He said, “It sounded like hell to me.”

And so, in 1965, he came to Nashville to visit with Marijohn Wilkin, the songwriter of “Long Black Veil” and a relation of Kristofferson’s Army platoon leader. On Kristofferson’s first Nashville night, he met Cowboy Jack Clement, a renegade creative who would become a lifelong friend. Soon after that, Wilkin helped Kristofferson get a backstage pass to the Grand Ole Opry, where he met a pacing panther named Johnny Cash. In less than two Music City weeks, Kristofferson decided to resign his Army post and move to Nashville to write songs. Soon after, he met successful songwriter Tom T. Hall in a Nashville bar. Kristofferson introduced himself to Hall, who said “Good to see you . . . It’s a hairy-legged town.”

Kristofferson scuffled for more than four years in Nashville, entering his 30s as what his parents considered a ne’er do well who was dragging down the family name. He worked as a janitor at CBS’s Nashville studio, happy to empty trash cans and make coffee in exchange for access to recording sessions by Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan, and others. He rode around on a well-bruised Honda motorcycle, and neglected family matters in ways that came to haunt him and that doomed his first marriage. He was heartened by praise from the people whom he hoped would become peers. When his “From the Bottle to the Bottom” was recorded by Grand Ole Opry star Billy Walker in 1969, Tom T. Hall said, “God, that’s a great song” and quoted lines back to the fledgling talent.

“That kind of thing was enough to keep me going back then,” Kristofferson said.

After more than four years in songwriting purgatory, things began to roll Kristofferson’s way. Ray Stevens recorded his “Sunday Mornin’ Comin’ Down,” and Johnny Cash recorded the same song and took it to the top of the country charts. Cash performed “Sunday Mornin’” on his ABC television show, and, despite the cries of network censors, refused to change Kristofferson’s line “Wishing, Lord, that I was stoned” to “Wishing, Lord, that I was home.” That song was voted the Country Music Association’s song of the year in 1970.

Roger Miller, one of Kristofferson’s songwriting heroes, recorded “Me and Bobby McGee,” a song inspired by publisher and Monument Records boss Fred Foster’s suggestion that a song should be written about Foster’s secretary, Bobby McKee. And Kristofferson’s “For the Good Times” was recorded by the great Ray Price and became a No. 1 country hit.

After arguing with Foster about his validity as a recording artist (Kristofferson said, “I sing like a fucking frog,” to which Foster replied, “Yes, but like a frog that can communicate.”), Kristofferson’s first solo album came out in April of 1970. It contained now-classics including “Sunday Mornin’ Comin’ Down,” “Me and Bobby McGee,” “To Beat the Devil,” “Help Me Make It Through the Night,” “Just the Other Side of Nowhere,” “Darby’s Castle,” and “Best of All Possible Worlds.” It began with “Blame It On the Stones,” a song that opened with the decidedly non-traditional line, “Mr. Marvin Middle Class is really in a stew/ Wonderin’ what the younger generation’s coming to.”

With that debut album, Kristofferson emerged as a luminous figure whose fame expanded far beyond country music. Janis Joplin recorded “Me and Bobby McGee,” which became her signature hit. And Kristofferson became a counter-culture darling, beloved by artists and listeners who had never before paid attention to country music.

“You can look at Nashville pre-Kris and post-Kris, because he changed everything,” said Bob Dylan.

Kristofferson’s second album, The Silver Tongued Devil and I, came out on Monument Records in 1971 and contained “The Pilgrim – Chapter 33,” a song he claimed to write about friends Cash, Chris Gantry, Funky Donnie Fritts, and others but later admitted was mostly about himself. “He’s a walkin’ contradiction, partly truth and partly fiction,” he sang. “Taking every wrong direction on his lonely way back home.”

All those wrong directions led to some spectacular locales. In 1971, Kristofferson began a side career as an actor. He would go on to win a Golden Globe award for his role in A Star Is Born, and to act in numerous films including Semi-Tough, Songwriter, Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid, The Sailor Who Fell from Grace with the Sea, Lone Star, and Blade. He toured the world with his band and with Rita Coolidge, his wife from 1973 until 1980. He moved from Nashville to California. And he released seven solo albums between 1972 and 1979.

This flurry of activity and the accompanying celebrity did not ease Kristofferson’s mind, which was prone to depression, or his problematic drinking habit. The heady years of grand success proved to be some of the most difficult of his life.

“The darkness is driving me farther away from the shore/ Throw me a rhyme or a reason to try to go on,” he wrote and sang in “Shipwrecked in the 80s.” He found rhyme and reason in the graceful form of Lisa Meyers, who married Kristofferson in 1983 and helped him get his life under control. The couple would have five children together.

In 1985, Kristofferson joined Cash, Waylon Jennings, and Willie Nelson to form the supergroup now called The Highwaymen. The group returned Kristofferson’s voice to radio, provided a larger audience for him to relay his critical and sometimes controversial views on American foreign policy, and offered him great joy.

“Every time I look at a picture of Willie and me and John and Waylon, I find it amazing that they let the janitor in there,” he told journalist Mikal Gilmore.

After two roundly ignored solo albums for Mercury Records, Repossessed and Third World Warrior, Kristofferson began working with producer Don Was in 1995. Their creative partnership proved fruitful, with Was’ restrained production allowing the gristly character in Kristofferson’s voice to be heard to full effect, and with Kristofferson writing pensive, eloquent songs that rank with his finest works. “It’s about making sense of life at this end of the game,” Kristofferson said about his 2009 Closer to the Bone album, and that comment also applies to Was-produced works A Moment of Forever(2006), This Old Road (2009), and Feeling Mortal (2013). On his 80th birthday in 2016, Kris released The Cedar Creek Sessions, which was nominated for a Grammy for best Americana Album six months later.

Until the pandemic in 2020, Kristofferson toured incessantly in the 21st century, a quiet man in worn brown boots, commanding stages with only his guitar and harmonica for accompaniment. His Gibson acoustic might go out of tune . . . no matter. In his final years he performed with Merle Haggard's band, The Strangers.

In 2003, Kristofferson received the Free Speech Award from the Americana Music Association and in 2004 he became a member of the Country Music Hall of Fame. Since then, he received lifetime achievement honors from BMI, The Recording Academy, the Country Music Association and the Academy of Country Music, among many others.

“When I got started, I was one of the people hoping to bring respect to country music,” he said. “Some of the songs I had that got to be hits did that. I imagine that’s why somebody might vote me into a Hall of Fame. I know it’s not because of my golden throat.”

On the back cover of The Silver Tongued Devil and I, Kristofferson advised that his songs were “Echoes of the going ups and coming downs, walking pneumonia and run-of-the-mill madness, colored with guilt, pride, and a vague sense of despair.”

Sometimes divine communion, then, is holy hell. Kristofferson brought some of that hell on himself, and he lived through times when guilt and despair were anything but vague, and when pride was hard to conjure. Asked about regrets, he said, “Listen, I have those. But my life has turned out so well for me that I would be afraid to change anything.”

Kristofferson's survived by his wife, Lisa; eight children, Tracy, Kris Jr., Casey, Jesse, Jody, John, Kelly, and Blake; and seven grandchildren, who offer the following consolatory statement:

“It is with a heavy heart that we share the news our husband/father/grandfather, Kris Kristofferson, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 28 at home. We’re all so blessed for our time with him. Thank you for loving him all these many years, and when you see a rainbow, know he’s smiling down at us all.” – The Family of Kris Kristofferson

Eli Young Band Honor Those Who Put “Home in Hometown” in New Release & Tour

It’s widely known how award-winning Eli Young Band formed while together in Denton, Texas attending college at University of North Texas, however their journey over the next 20+ years would lead them everywhere, seldomly seeing home in between. With notions of longing ever present in their writing, it’s no surprise as they find their center as releasing music for the first time in three years independently with both home, and those who make it so, at the core. Listen to “Home In Hometown,” below.

A true-to-experience ballad of life on the road, and heart-on-their-sleeve marker of what they've learned in their years away from those they love most. With ringing guitars capturing a sense of anticipation, a steady rhythmic heartbeat and a euphoric singalong chorus, the band unpack what "home" really means.

"When you find the love of your life you’ll follow them anywhere,” shares band lead vocalist and guitarist Mike Eli who penned the song alongside Ryan Tyndell and Jeff Hyde (Eric Church’s “Springsteen” and Keith Urban’s “We Were”). “My wife, Kacey, and I started as a long distance relationship and it was tough to keep it together. When I wrote this I was digging deep into our Texas roots. I wanted to write something that felt like Pat Green or Jack Ingram would cut. And when you travel like we do, a lot of times you're thinking about coming home and being with your family -- but, it's almost like if they meet you on the road, anywhere can be home. It just feels right. I wanted to capture that."

The Jimmy Robbins and Eric Arjes produced track is the first release of more than 140 songs the band has written over the last few years and signifies a new chapter and a new tour.

Looking ahead to the upcoming 25th anniversary of the band's founding, the four members of the Eli Young Band have retaken the reins of their sound and songwriting, reestablishing the go-your-own-way spirit behind their multi-Platinum hits.

Returning to their independent roots -- but also the bold creative edge that launched them from the Texas live circuit into the country mainstream, and in many ways returning to their old stomping grounds -- it's an era driven by experience and a million miles of wisdom, but delivered by a band of brothers still very much in their musical prime.

"We started this thing when we were like 20 [years old], and it's been such a crazy road and such a longer road than any of us could have conceptualized at the time,” bassist Jon Jones shares. “I think right now feels a little full circle, in a really nice way."

"Now, we kind of get to step back into our Texas shoes. I definitely think that this new stuff finds me as a songwriter reaching deep into my personal past and our past as a band,” Eli adds. “We're remembering where the magic was -- all those songs we wanted to record for our Level record, that felt way too edgy for Country Radio at the time.”

Returning to that grassroots rawness, geared for their acclaimed live show has the band reinvigorated.

"We’ve written 143 songs and it’s just the beginning of our next chapter. Going back to Panhandle House where we recorded Level, that record started everything for us. Going back there feels like we get to remind ourselves why we started making the kind of music we make,” Eli says in closing. “When this music comes out, I think fans will know it is 100% coming from us."

Celebrated by The Associated Press as “a smart, relevant antidote” to overdone clichés in Country music, EYB has charted 14 singles on Billboard, including four No. 1 hits with Billboard‘s No. 1 Country Song of the Year and ACM Award for Song of the Year, “Crazy Girl,” “Even If It Breaks Your Heart,” 2x Platinum “Love Ain’t” and Platinum “Drunk Last Night.” Additionally, the band has earned multiple GRAMMY, CMA, CMT, ACA and Teen Choice Award nominations.

My Epic to Release "Loriella: The Film" EP Featuring Live Renditions of Album Tracks

My Epic — Aaron Stone [guitar, vocals], Tanner Morita [guitar], and Nate Washburn [guitar, bass] — are releasing an EP featuring live recordings of songs off  their new album Loriella, which arrived earlier this year via Tooth & Nail Records, along with a YouTube live performance video called Loriella: The Film. Watch and listen below.

"Whether fans get a chance to see us on this record cycle or not, we were excited to bring Loriella to life in a slightly more grounded way and showcase all the energy, heart, joy that went into it," the band says. "Fully conceived and produced by the band, Loriella: The Film uses visually heightened performances to bring the maximalist production of Loriella into the real world. Loriella: The Film is what happens when the artistic intention of a music video is brought to the energy of a live show."

ABOUT MY EPIC:
My Epic tune into this moment of reawakening on their fourth full-length offering and Tooth & Nail Records debut Loriella. Balancing waves of warm distorted fuzz with lush melodies and cinematic production, the group make the kind of music that rouses the senses and might just encourage you to open your eyes, mind, and heart a little wider.

"The record is about having lived long enough to lose your innocence and still being able to find joy, hope, peace, and faith," explains Aaron. "I can be a critical person, but there's a difference between being critical and cynical. I understand why people end up choosing cynicism, because sometimes it can seem like the best way to make sense of all the data in the world–but I think cynicism is death. It's part of my aim to fight cynicism at every turn. The album is about discovery and re-engaging life with purpose on new terms of your own."

Throughout the past two decades, the band have quietly, yet consistently engaged a devout fanbase with a simultaneously anthemic and intricate approach to alternative rock. They've progressed across the likes of I Am Undone [2008], Yet [2010], and Behold [2013]. The latter notably catapulted onto the Billboard Heatseekers Albums Chart. Generating millions of streams, their catalog expanded with fan favorite EPs such as Viscera [2016], Ultraviolet [2018], and Violence [2019]—which HM Magazine hailed as "a blend of indie-alternative enchantments.Meanwhile, Cory Brandan of Norma Jean lent his voice to "White Noises.” During 2020, the band signed to Tooth & Nail, turning the page on another chapter as they set their sights on their first full-length since 2013. In between, life happened as band members became dads and moved around personally and professionally.

For the first time, Nate assumed the role of primary producer, and Loriella materialized over the course of two years in three different studios. Along the way, they nodded to early inspirations such as The Smashing Pumpkins, Foo Fighters, and Third Eye Blind.

rosecoloredworld share "all we had" Video — WATCH // Touring This Fall

Los Angeles pop punk/emo/alt rock duo rosecoloredworld, newly signed to Velocity Records, have shared the video for the new single "all we had." Watch it below

RCW will announce news regarding more new music soon, so stay tuned. But for now, indulge in "all we had." Also, the band is now receiving airplay at SiriusXM's Faction Punk, so there's even more chances to listen to the band.

"We wrote 'all we had' on an acoustic guitar one afternoon in about 20 minutes," rosecoloredworld say. "It's an honest realization about how fast time goes if you're not present. The lyrics originally started as a journal entry that quickly poured out in a song. Writing it was a way to cope with learning how to be happy where you currently are while still desiring more."

RCW recently supported The Dangerous Summer’s national U.S. tour, opened west coast dates for The Juliana Theory, and opened for Sum 41, NOAHFINNCE, Hail The Sun, and more this year.

They will tour with Not My Weekend this fall. All dates are below. Get tickets and more information here.

rosecoloredworld combine catchy melodies with honest, self-reflective, and narrative-driven lyrics. The band was formed by two artists, Rae and Addison, who met in Hollywood through a mutual friend. Their music has been described as a safe place where people from all walks of life can feel accepted, seen, and celebrated for being exactly who they are. By creating this community, it gives anyone permission to live with a sense of freedom and create their own rosecoloredworld.

ASINHELL, Featuring Volbeat's Michael Poulsen, Share "Impii Hora" Video

For more than 20 years, vocalist/guitarist Michael Poulsen has been spearheading Danish rock and roll machine Volbeat, releasing eight full-lengths, selling millions of albums, and filling stadiums worldwide. Before fronting Volbeat, however, Poulsen formed death metal band Dominus, which recorded four fast, brutal albums in the mid '90s.

When Poulsen was putting together songs for Volbeat's 2021 album, Servant of the Mind, he wrote a bunch of death metal riffs and saved them on his phone. Then, when he was done with the Volbeat record, he reopened the rusty gates to Armageddon and started putting together songs for his new death metal band Asinhell, whose debut album Impii Hora (Latin for "Ungodly Hour"), is a tribute to Poulsen's favorite old-school groups.

Impii Hora was originally released September 29, 2023 via Metal Blade. Get it here.

Today, the band has shared the video for the title track. Watch it below.

The video comes on the one-year anniversary of the album release. The footage was shot in Berlin during the band's recent European tour.

"It means 'Ungodly Hour' in Latin and the song is about all these evil, vile, and terrible acts that get committed in this Ungodly Hour," shares Poulsen about the title. "It's definitely an anti-religion song. Basically, we are not churchgoers, but on the other hand, I totally respect people who believe in something. But religion, to me, is the oppression that comes with being a part of the church. That's the oppressive thing, not the belief in some high, holy spirit. To me, the anti-religion stuff is more about what people have done to believers — trying to manipulate people to follow them, which is an autocratic kind of thing."

It follows last spring's video for "Pyromantic Scryer." Watch it here.

Poulsen has rekindled the death metal fire that fueled his first band Dominus. He began jamming on riffs with longtime friend and neighbor, drummer Morten Toft Hansen (Raunchy). The two started playing in Morten's tiny garage: no mics, no P.A. — just a drum kit and a combo amp turned all the way up like they used when they were teenagers. Soon, the pair were completing a new song every time they got together. When it came time to add vocals, Poulsen turned to his good friend, who also happened to be one of his all-time favorite death metal growlers: Marc Grewe (Insidious Disease, ex-Morgoth).

"I had known Michael quite a long time and he always mentioned that we should do a death metal project one day, but I never took him too seriously because he was so busy with Volbeat," Grewe says. "Then he called for real and said, 'Yeah, I want to do it now. Are you up for it?' Immediately, I was like, 'Yes, of course!'"

With Asinhell fully formed, the three convened with Volbeat producer Jacob Hansen to produce, mix, and play bass on their debut album. When it was time to add lead guitar to the album, Michael looked no further than friend and The Arcane Order axeman Flemming C. Lund.

A New Dawn: The Reveal Unveil New Record "Hieroglyphics" - Out Now!

Genre-defying power trio, The Reveal, have officially unleashed their transcendent sophomore record "Hieroglyphics", an immersive concept album that draws inspiration from spirituality, ancient religions, and the exploration of diverse cultures. This brand new album sees an ambitious fusion of The Reveal's trademark psychedelic rock with diverse elements ranging from funk-heavy grooves to punk-rock grit. Fans can listen to "Hieroglyphics" HERE.

Alongside the release of their latest eclectic record, The Reveal have also shared a mind-bending new video for "My Chariot", furthering the band's new experimental era. Fans can watch the brand new video Below.

Lifting the curtain on their highly-anticipated release, frontman Brother Dusty shares:

"This album represents a whole eye-opening chapter of the band's journey working with pros to get to a higher level. The themes of the music tribute many ancient mysteries - drawing attention to Egyptian mythology, spiritual awakening, secret societies, aliens and other dimensions. We wrapped it up in a mask of party time dance themes and commercial production to create a Trojan horse to get us through the gates of our next step as a band."

With "Hieroglyphics" out in the world, The Reveal continue to redefine the boundaries of rock, all while preserving their signature psychedelic edge. By blending the sounds of cultures from across the globe, the trio masterfully craft a captivating narrative centered around the rebirth of The Reveal, diving deep into themes of transformation, identity, and the complexities of the human experience.

A standout act in the Nashville music scene, The Reveal have cemented their status as trailblazers by breaking free from traditional genre constraints and exploring fresh, avant-garde musical elements. Their fearless experimentation and willingness to defy expectations have set them apart, forging a new distinct identity that challenges the norm and reshapes the contemporary rock landscape.

Stay tuned for more The Reveal news coming soon.
