Epica Release "Aspiral" + Video for "Fight to Survive"

Symphonic metal forebears EPICA are thrilled to finally release their brand-new studio album, Aspiral, today. The band invites fans to immerse themselves in the full sonic journey as it is meant to be experienced: from start to finish in one go.

"All of us in the band pushed each other to create the best possible album," Epica share. "We've once again explored new musical and lyrical frontiers, and we hope Aspiral resonates with you as deeply as it does with us. The whole truly is greater than the sum of its parts — this album is meant to be experienced in full."

In conjunction with the album release, EPICA have unveiled a sci-fi-themed music video for "Fight to Survive – The Overview Effect." The track draws inspiration from the cognitive shift experienced by astronauts after observing Earth from space — a powerful moment of awe, interconnectedness, and a profound appreciation for the planet’s fragility.

"Musically, this song encapsulates the full spectrum of EPICA," the band explains. "From heavy to soft, uplifting to melancholic — 'Fight to Survive' embodies it all."

The visually striking video was once again brought to life by Remko Tielemans and produced by Kollektiv Kunststoff, who also directed the band's previous singles "Arcana" and "Cross the Divide."

With Aspiral now released, EPICA are ready to bring their new music to life on stage. The band will embark on a North American tour next month, kicking off in the United States and Mexico, followed by a summer filled with major European festival appearances.

Epica Drop Video for "T.I.M.E."

Symphonic metal frontrunners EPICA return with a spellbinding third single off their upcoming album, Aspiral, which will see the light of day on April 11.

T.I.M.E.” is a track that takes listeners on a journey through self-discovery, as the title stands for "Transformation, Integration, Metamorphosis and Evolution" and delves into the art of dying — more specifically, the death of the ego, and the necessary steps one must take to achieve personal and spiritual growth.

Bringing this vision to life is the new music video created by Dave Letelier, which captures the song's haunting aesthetic.

In support of their new album, EPICA announced multiple tours worldwide. The cycle will kick off in Paris on April 12 at a sold-out EPICA experience before the band heads to North America for three showcase appearances and continuing with a Mexican tour.

EPICA Announce New Album "Aspiral" + Share Video For New Single "Cross The Divide"

Symphonic metal titans EPICA are excited to announce that their ninth studio album Aspiral, out on April 11.

The album title is derived from the eponymous bronze sculpture made by Polish sculptor and painter Stanisław Szukalski back in 1965 and stands for renewal and inspiration — key words that define Epica in 2025. In Szukalski's work, every detail is a piece of art on its own and there's always more to the story than you initially think. The band saw this as the perfect analogy for the creation of this ninth album: Each song stands on its own with a distinctive vibe and meaning, while together they enforce each other into a monumental effort.

The album, featuring stunning cover artwork by Hedi Xandt (Rammstein, Ghost, Parkway Drive), is now available for pre-order in the below mentioned formats. The special editions even include the BluRay and audio recordings of the full monumental "Symphonic Synergy" performance in Amsterdam that the band recorded in 2024, with an orchestra and choir.

Recorded once again at Sandlane Studios and expertly mixed and produced by Joost van den Broek, Aspiral boasts 11 new tracks.

If you want to get another appetizer of the new tracks, you can check out the band's music video for the up-tempo anthem "Cross The Divide," directed by Kunststoff below.

EPICA - Unveil Haunting Music Video For New Single 'The Ghost In Me (Danse Macabre)' In Collaboration With De Efteling

Dare to dance with the dead! Dutch symphonic metal titans EPICA have unleashed their eeriest creation yet, the spine-chilling music video for 'The Ghost in Me (Danse Macabre),' a haunting track that lures listeners into a world where shadows dance and the afterlife whispers. This song is a unique collaboration with Europe’s second-most visited theme park, Netherlands’s magical DeEfteling, and their much-anticipated new attraction, Danse Macabre.

Drenched in ghostly imagery, the video mirrors the unsettling thrill of De Efteling’s new ride, which opens its gates on October 31st, right in time for this Halloween season. Ever since their childhood, every member of EPICA has loved this theme park that welcomes over 5 million visitors per year. Therefore, this collaboration was a true match made in the otherworld.

Submerge yourself now in the music video which was filmed right inside and in front of the new attraction - and as if this wasn’t already exciting enough, the band even received their very own “Epica gravestone” that you can spot, if you look closely.

EPICA’s keyboard player, Coen Janssen, comments:

“Every kid in the Netherlands knows how magical ‘de Efteling’ is, and working this closely with the most beautiful theme park in the world surely is a dream come true! As a young boy, I immediately got captivated by the “Danse Macabre” by Saint-Saëns as a soundtrack for their haunted house “Spookslot”. So when ‘de Efteling’ announced their new plans for the ghostly attraction “Danse Macabre” all pieces of the puzzle fell into place immediately: Why not combine our symphonic side with the ’scary’ side of metal and do our version of this epic classical piece?!? We are so happy that ‘de Efteling’ trusted our vision and gave their full support, providing us with the new ride's storyline, so we could write lyrics fitting the fantastic narrative and even add a new chapter!”

‘The Ghost In Me (Danse Macabre)’ lures fans into a darkly enchanting dance with the dead in this YouTube video and will also appear on all streaming platforms soon… when more of Epica’s next chapter will be unveiled.

The song has already made its live debut at the band’s monumental 'Symphonic Synergy' shows in Amsterdam this September, and fans in Latin America will have the chance to be the next to hear it live at two shows that EPICA will perform exclusively with a full orchestra and choir.

Sleep Theory Release "Paper Hearts" EP

"Sleep Theory follow in the path of bands like Sevendust in weaving soulful vocal melodies, groove-heavy guitar work and an infectious bounce as their stylistic signature." – Knotfest

"Sleep Theory adapt 2000s arena rock and nu-metal for the future with their anthemic metal-tinged sound that would please any fan of Linkin Park and their ilk. At once enthralling, emotional and disarming, Sleep Theory's supercharged single 'Numb' is everything a radio rock fan could want. You'll be humming it for days after." – Loudwire

Fresh off a captivating performance at Louisville's Louder Than Life Festivalthis past weekend, breakout four-piece Sleep Theory — vocalist Cullen Moore, guitarist Daniel Pruitt, bassist Paolo Vergara, and drummer Ben Pruitt — have released their Paper Hearts EP today, September 29, via the Epitaph Records. Get it
here.

The EP features two buzzy singles — "
Numb" and "Gone or Staying" — which have established Sleep Theory as one of the most exciting and talked about bands of 2023.

"As Sleep Theory, we've poured our hearts and souls into crafting our debut EP Paper Hearts and we're beyond thrilled to share this musical journey with the world," the band shares. "Each track is a piece of our collective soul, woven into melodies and lyrics that resonate with our experiences and emotions. Paper Hearts is not just music; it's our story, our passion, and our dreams set to sound."

Since bursting onto the scene earlier this year, Sleep Theory have gone from strength to strength. With press coverage from American Songwriter, Billboard, Celebrity Access, Knotfest, and Loudwire, as well as major nods from SiriusXM's Octane, Sleep Theory have had a huge 2023 and are gearing up for an even bigger 2024.

With Sleep Theory, the numbers don't lie.

Rather, the stats tell an impressive story that continues to grow and evolve as the band heads towards the stratosphere.

Sleep Theory's recent single "Numb" — watch the video
below— follows the band's debut single "Another Way," which arrived in January 2023 and amassed 500k views on TikTok within 36 hours of release. "Gone or Staying" arrived next, and all three songs combined have generated over 25 million streams, while "Numb" and "Another Way" both shot to No. 1 on SiriusXM's Octane Chart. The reaction was intense and swift, and as such, the band was also selected for SiriusXM/Pandora's Artist Accelerator Program and will be a part of their Next Wave Concert Series this fall. Additionally, "Numb" rose to No. 1 on on Octane's BigUns four (!!!) times.

This all happened in the span of the past nine months.

But what seemed like an overnight success (or an "industry plant" playing to the algorithm, as some trolls have incorrectly theorized) has actually been years in the making. And it's paying off.

Since retiring from the U.S. Army several years ago, Moore has dedicated his life to carving his own path in the music industry.

Officially starting Sleep Theory in 2019, the current incarnation of his musical journey began as a studio project to fuse his love of hard rock, funk, and R&B.

Now a four-piece band, which came to be on the back of a chance meeting via Facebook Marketplace, Sleep Theory have achieved a pair of No. 1 singles, played their first run of shows to massive crowds, and signed to Epitaph Records. Combining metalcore-like breakdowns with bluesy grooves and a pop sensibility made for modern radio, "Numb" has ascended to the No. 19 position on the Active Rock chart.

Sleep Theory wrapped summer touring runs with Set It Off and Shinedown, and also played shows with I Prevail, Badflower, and more.

Their 2024 touring plans are extensive and will be announced soon!

EPICA - reveal new video of 'Beyond The Matrix (Live At The AFAS Live)'

On October 6th, EPICA’s new digital EP Live At The AFAS Live will be finally available, and today the band reveals another uplifting hit with ‘Beyond The Matrix’.

Coen Janssen comments: “This is our ‘ultimate’ live track! We haven’t found an audience yet that didn’t bounce with is during the chorus. Can you imagine how awesome it looked to see the whole AFAS jump simultaneously?! A great view to end the show full of adrenaline!!”

For those who don’t want to wait another month to enjoy the live videos from the band’s biggest home country headline show to date, you can now tune in to the new heavy metal streaming platform Thunderflix, where EPICA’s latest BluRay release from 2021, Omega Alive, is exclusively available as full stream – check it out here and subscribe to see many more metal shows at: https://www.thunderflix.com/checkout/subscribe/purchase?campaign=epica

Vinyl fans are also in luck as on October 13th, EPICA will finally re-issue their fifth albumRequiem For The Indifferent on transparent red double vinyl. Initially released in 2012, the record featured the evergreen and fan-favorite ‘Storm The Sorrow’ and has been out of print for over 8 years:

EPICA - release new single 'Unleashed (Live at the AFAS Live)'

After recently performing as direct support to Metallica for two spectacular shows in Paris and Hamburg, Symphonic metallers EPICA return with a another new live single from their European headline tour. The bombastic ‘Unleashed’ was recorded at Amsterdam's AFAS Live in January 2023. Ahead of the band's performance at Download Festival this weekend, they have released the live video for 'Unleashed (Live at the AFAS Live)'.

Watch the video for 'Unleashed (Live at the AFAS Live)' below and stream on all platforms now

“Unleashed has been a band and fan favourite live song ever since its release on Design Your Universe”, comments Coen Janssen. “There was no question about playing it on our biggest indoor show to date, and with the amazing images on the big LED wall, the song got lifted to an even higher experience.”

EPICA have a busy festival summer ahead of themselves before going back into the studio early next year to record the follow-up to 2021’s Omega.

“To play with these legendary musicians on our biggest indoor show in the Netherlands was a dream come true “, comments Coen Janssen and Mark Jansen adds: “To perform with APOCALYPTICA added an extra layer of pure magic to the song. Not only are these guys great musicians but also on a personal level, we match very well with these lovely people. Therefore, it was particularly special to perform ‘Rivers’ with them and we are very proud to present you the result of this collaboration in the form of our live performance.”

EPICA Release New EP 'The Alchemy Project' via Atomic Fire Records

Symphonic metal titans EPICA finally unleash 'The Alchemy Project', a unique collaboration featuring 13 bands and musicians who co-wrote and performed the 7 new tracks with them. For this special occasion, EPICA presents another true gem from the release, in form of a music video for a hauntingly dark track with a majestic chorus: "Sirens - Of Blood And Water" was co-written and performed with melodic metal queen Charlotte Wessels and folk/black metal pioneer Myrkur, and together with Simone Simons, these 3 leading ladies of heavy music form the most spectacular trinity of this winter.

"Charlotte and I go back many years, but we never really worked on music together. Since she started releasing her solo songs, I became an admirer of her work and reached out to her to create a song for 'The Alchemy Project'." Simone Simons remembers. "That collaboration resulted in the beautiful haunting song, 'Sirens - Of Blood And Water'. We both have a fascination for mermaids, the fairytale from H.C. Andersen and wanted to write a song from the perspective of the sisters of the little mermaid. I loved how our creative minds flowed into the song and having Myrkur, who happens to be Danish just like the author of the tale, add her unique voice to the song was the perfect match that we needed to complete the story."

If this isn't the best possible way to conclude their 20 Year Anniversary Celebrations, then we don't know what it is. Get lured into the deep waters and watch "Sirens - Of Blood And Water" directed by Patric Ullaeus, below.

Epica Release New Single "The Great Tribulation" ft. Fleshgod Apocalypse from Forthcoming EP 'The Alchemy Project'

With 'The Alchemy Project', out on November 11th through Atomic Fire Records, symphonic metal titans EPICA finish their 20th anniversary year with a bang and will deliver seven new songs that were all created with a unique concept in mind: They invited 13 bands and musicians to co-write and perform the tracks with them and the result is a mind-bending mini-album ranging from melodic hard rock hymns, via progressive melodeath to even the heaviest track you've ever heard from EPICA

For this new single, which once again thematically dives into apocalyptic realms, the band teamed up with none less than Italy's symphonic tech-death pioneers FLESHGOD APOCALYPSE - a collaboration that many fans have been waiting for, not only since both bands shared the stage on their North American Tour in 2016.

Mark Jansen explains how the new song came to life: "We know the guys and girl from FLESHGOD APOCALYPSE already for quite a long time and toured together. There’s a lot of mutual respect for each other’s music, so when we approached them to work together on a track, they were right away enthusiastic. I did send them some very basic ideas I had for two songs, so they could pick what they liked the most. They ended up using all the ideas and combining them into one song. That was already very promising. From there on, we organized several sessions where we worked on the song together. The process was very smooth and very inspiring. I think the result is a perfect blend between both bands!"

EPICA Announce New EP 'The Alchemy Project' Out November 11 + Release New Music Video "The Final Lullaby" feat. Shining

Always pushing forward, always aiming higher: In the 20 years of their existence, EPICA have never shied away from challenges, twists and turns, weathering every storm and pushing the symphonic metal genre to heights no one even dared to believe in. Since 2002, the band surrounding global metal icon Simone Simons and her long-time musical partner Mark Jansen have released eight highly innovative and cinematic albums, have toured the world over and have left their mark as one of metal’s most prolific, most cherished and most admired success stories forever.

With "The Alchemy Project", out on November 11th through Atomic Fire Records, EPICA set another highlight in the band's 20th anniversary year! Graced by a vivid and witty artwork by graphic wizard Heilemania, visual partner in crime for more that 15 years, EPICA embark on a journey through seven extraordinary new songs. Co-written and performed with diverse guests ranging from extremists like Fleshgod ApocalypseNiilo Sevänen (Insomnium) and Björn ‘Speed’ Strid (Soilwork) via melodic masters like Tommy Karevik (Kamelot), keyboard legend Phil Lanzon (Uriah Heep) or Roel van Helden (Powerwolf)to a once-in-a-lifetime song with Simone SimonsCharlotte Wessels and MyrkurEPICA have really outdone themselves once again. The result is a mind-bending EP that even surpasses the usual broad scope of an EPICA record.

The first track they wrote for this 7-track-offering was 'The Final Lullaby', a fast-paced, intense clash between EPICA and the avant-garde rock of Norwegian legends SHINING (with saxophone!), graced with one of the biggest refrains you will hear all year. "I’ve been a big fan of Shining since the first time I heard them," bassist Rob van der Loo weighs in. "Our intention with ‘The Final Lullaby’ was to make a mash-up between Epica and Shining so we thought it would be a good idea if I would come up with some riffs that would be typical Shining and they would do the complete opposite."

Check out the music video or stream 'The Final Lullaby' featuring SHINING below.

These 7 songs on "The Alchemy Project" were co-written and performed with the following renowned guest musicians:

1) The Great Tribulation feat. Fleshgod Apocalypse

2) Wake the World feat. Phil Lanzon (Uriah Heep) & Tommy Karevik (Kamelot)

3) The Final Lullaby feat. Shining

EPICA Unveil Music Video For "Run For A Fall (Acoustic)"

When revisiting EPICA’s 20-year history, the band’s very first DVD recording 'We Will Take You With Us' is a significant milestone, showing the 6 young musicians on Netherland’s renowned TV show ‘Twee Meter Sessies’ in 2004. Long before YouTube emerged, this broadcast presented the symphonic metallers to a wider audience and also included the first officially recorded live versions of their early hits like "Cry For The Moon" or "Sensorium".

While many EPICA fans might have already seen snippets of this release online, the CD has long been sold out. Finally, it’s available again as part of the 'We Still Take You With Us' Earbook, collector’s boxset, and CD clamshell box.

Watch the 4K remastered clip for "Run For A Fall (Acoustic)" below.

Coen Janssen remembers the recordings:

This was one of the very first acoustic/small settings in which we played as a band. I have very fond memories of playing in the famous Wisseloord Studios. One more thing I remember is being very nervous because it felt so ’naked’ in a way but I am very happy that we have this version to look back at!"

In case you missed it, a whole lot is happening in EPICA’s universe this year for their 20th anniversary as a band.

You can still pre-order the early years collection 'We Still Take You With Us' and 'Live At Paradiso' that will both be out on September 2nd:

EPICA Releases New Live Video Of Fan Favorite "The Last Crusade (Live At Paradiso)"

The celebrations for EPICA’s 20th anniversary are in full swing. On September 2nd, the Symphonic metal titans will re-issue their first three albums 'The Phantom Agony', 'Consign To Oblivion', and 'The Score', which have become milestones of the genre and rarities within the physical market.

Each record will be available in either a CD box, a collector’s LP box, or as an earbook and will come with previously unreleased bonus tracks for each album, as well as the spectacular live audio and video of Live At Paradiso and We Will Take You With Us.

Today the band, once again, returns to the past with the release of their evergreen anthem "The Last Crusade" performed during their legendary Paradiso show in 2006.

’The Last Crusade’ was played very often in France during our early years as it became the anthem of our French fanclub, the French Crusade”, guitarist/growler Mark Jansen remembers “That song always got the party going, great vibes from the crowd and great memories.“

Join "The Last Crusade" now and watch the live video below.

Available on September 2nd, the anniversary releases are up for preorder via this link, as a boxset, earbook, vinyl, CD box, and Bluray. For more information, please click here.

EPICA are currently playing at several big summer festivals and will soon host their very exclusive and long sold-out “20th Anniversary Show” in Tilburg, with massive stage production, several old and new guests, and a career-spanning set. Right after this busy summer, they will embark on a North America Tour with Sabaton, a Latin American headline Tour in November, and an extensive run through Europe in early 2023 with Apocalyptica.

EPICA - To Celebrate 20th Anniversary As A Band With Re-Release Of First Three Albums, The Launch Of The Epica Universe And Anniversary Show

For their 20th band anniversary in 2022, Symphonic metal titans EPICA have prepared a massive celebration from January to December, with plenty of surprises, new projects, and of course some new music too that will all be revealed throughout the year.

After recently relaunching their first three albums, the now-classic, “The Phantom Agony”, “Consign To Oblivion” and “The Score 2.0” via Nuclear Blast, with an extensive physical re-release on CD, vinyl, as well as strictly limited earbooks and boxsets later this year. EPICA have started the year with launching nothing less than, well, their own universe: “We truly feel like there’s a universe within the band, a world of our own, and we want to invite our lifeblood to be citizens—Epicans, if you will”, the band explains. “Think of it as a sequel to past Epica fan clubs like “The Fantom Agony” and “The French Crusade” but updated for the modern era; it’s more fan community than a club. Epica Universe will give Epicans insight into our lives, both personal and professional, through exclusive behind-the-scenes photos, podcasts, polls, vlogs, live hangouts and much more. There’s even a (super limited) tier that includes one-on-one video calls with a band member each month!"

And what would a 20th anniversary be without a proper celebration live and in full color? The massive anniversary show is taking place at the same venue as EPICA played their first show back in the day, supporting Anathema: the 013 in Tilburg, The Netherlands.
