Chicago metal outfit REPENTANCE has announced their upcoming third full-length album Retaliate, set for release on July 17th, 2026 via Noble Demon. Alongside the announcement, the band has unleashed the record’s title track as the first single, offering an intense glimpse into what promises to be their most hard-hitting and focused release to date.

"'Retaliate' is a straight punch to the teeth. Coming out swinging", vocalist Adam Gilley comments about the track. "This song has that take no prisoners intensity and hooks. So tune in and turn that sh** up!!!!"

Formed in 2018 by guitarist Shaun Glass (ex-Soil, Dirge Within), REPENTANCE have steadily carved out a name for themselves in the modern metal landscape with a sound built on groove, heavy riffs, technical precision, and unrelenting intensity. Emerging from the Chicago scene, the band quickly gained traction on the live circuit, sharing stages with acts such as Trivium, DevilDriver, Jinjer, Sacred Reich, and Toxic Holocaust, among others.

Their debut album God For A Day (2020) received strong critical attention, leading to a worldwide signing with German label Noble Demon in 2021. This partnership marked a new chapter for the band, beginning with the EP Volume I - Reborn (2021), which introduced vocalist Adam Gilley and featured a guest appearance from Trivium guitarist Corey Beaulieu.

In 2023, REPENTANCE followed up with their sophomore album The Process of Human Demise, a record that further solidified their reputation for blending groove metal intensity with modern thrash precision. Produced by Alex Lackner and mixed/mastered by Chris Collier, the album also featured guest contributions from Corey Beaulieu and Milo Silvestro (Fear Factory), drawing comparisons to genre heavyweights such as Pantera and Lamb of God.

Now, with "Retaliate", the band push their sound even further. Once again produced by Alex Lackner at Accelerated Sound, the record was mixed by Ari Mihalopoulos at Inner Light Studio - a pairing that brings both familiarity and a fresh sonic perspective to the band's most aggressive material yet. The album arrives with punishing groove and nonstop aggressive hooks, pushing the band's sound forward while staying rooted in the intensity that has defined them since day one.

Pop punk's most lovable liability, Ray Hawthorne, returns with yet again, another new single for people who are holding it together using only spite and a good chorus. Fresh off the hometown wreckage of "Burn New Jersey Down" ft Pete Zen and his sophomore album, "Ray Hawthorne Isn't Real", the Los Angeles-based renegade has today delivered "Head Spin", a dizzy, bruising portrait of being broke, exhausted, and tethered to someone who keeps holding you back. Guitars up front and a chant that hits like a mantra you didn't mean to memorize, "Head Spin" finds Ray Hawthorne unraveled and running on nothing. I’ve most likely got that. But to cap it all off, you need to have at least three years (or 6,000 hours) of PAID qualifying investigative experience. What the fuck? I’m sorry, here I am trying to be a legitimately licensed private investigator and you’re telling me I should have and COULD have ALREADY been taking money for my services??? Do you have any idea how many mysteries I solve on a weekly basis for fucking free?? Shit goes missing around the house, I’ve got suspects and a clue board set up in under five minutes. Let a motherfucker try to cheat on my best friend, I’ll have everybody’s headshots and last three addresses in a spreadsheet that night. Some asshole quits my friend’s band and screws everyone over in the process, I’ve already plotted where the fire exits are around their apartment building in case of any “accidents.” These are just a few examples of my determination and mystery solving acumen. So with all this in mind, I need your help. Let’s say my new song, Head Spin, is actually a coded message I’m putting out into the world. And let’s say you receive that message. Let’s say this message resonates with you and helps you on a level that only a private investigator could. Almost like I’ve investigated your music taste and supplied you with something you’d enjoy. It would make sense to me that, in that specific scenario, the proceeds I make from such a song could arguably count as paid investigative work. And the amount of time spent listening to such a song could arguably count toward the mandatory 6,000 hours of paid investigative work. YOU could be the reason that I’m finally able to become a full time mystery solving punk rock private investigator.

Meet The Ghoulstars, a fresh - and frightening blast from pop-culture’s past. Since beaming down onto their native haunt of Finland, these horror punks have tantalized crowds and captured the attention of CNN, Metal Hammer and other international press with their monstrously catchy mash-up of metal, punk and cult classics. Despite their ghostly appearance, The Ghoulstars are a collection of real talent. Axeman Daddy Ghoul and goose-bumping drummer Toni “Ghoulio” Ronkainen shared a past life together in Kuolemanlaakso. Bassist Markus “Hella Ghoul” Makkonen formerly haunted the low end for Hooded Menace while moonhowler Arthur “LL Ghoul A” Thure croons for the stoner rockers Thermate.

While the initial inspiration for The Ghoulstars came after burning rubber to Venom, The Dark Overlords of the Universe is possessed by a love for everything that blew the band’s minds as kids. The title track crosses surf beats, heavy riffing and a hair-raising transition into a chorus that’s absolutely to die for. With Mötley Crüe’s pomp and the can’t-do attitude of Twisted Sister roaming its halls, lead single “Too Ghoul for School” is jam-packed with more fun-filled ‘80s antics than Saturday afternoon detention.

“The record is unique, catchy and a really fun listen”, says Triptykon guitarist and vocalist V. Santura, who mixed and mastered The Dark Overlords of the Universe.

The Misfits, White Zombie and other cultishly beloved touchstones like The Wolfman jump out during the album’s crisp 34-minute runtime. “Graverobbers from Outer Space” pays homage to an Ed Wood B-horror classic with a headbanging chorus, though not many straight-up punk rippers are enlivened by a doomy C-part and güiro. The Ghoulstars also enter original plots into horror’s hallowed crypt. Set amidst the cruel unfeeling world of the Wild West, “The Dead in Purgatory” rides a galloping melody after Morricone’s heart into a sunset that’s colored by the fifty shades of Volbeat.

The Ghoulstars may be undead, but there’s nothing pale or lifeless about The Dark Overlords of the Universe. VRSTY Drop "face down"

New York City-based collective VRSTY (pronounced "Varsity") are fearless when it comes to experimenting with musical boundaries — effortlessly blurring, blending, and bending the lines between genres to craft their own unique brand of alt pop, hard rock, and R&B. It doesn't have a name but it's DNA-distinct, and distinctly VRSTY.

Today, they share the new single "face down." Listen to the chill yet thumping track with a massive breakdown, below.

"This was the last song we wrote for the record and the first that everybody fell in love with," says Joey Tyler. "Oddly enough, this was also the quickest song we wrote. We did it in about an hour but sometimes those songs just hit harder. There's something special about just naturally vibing with a song and it all coming together on its own. At its core, this song is also just the most relatable to me. It's about two people who simply cannot figure it out but chose to stay regardless — because why not?"

It follows the funky, '80s-inspired jam "ez2find," featuring The Home Team's Brian Butcher and Issues' Skyler Accord. Check out the groove-driven track here. It's quite the bop — it's the closest thing you'll find to a rock 'n' roll dancefloor jam! Tyler says, "I wrote this song about feeling like every show I've ever played is a one-night stand. You get one chance to impress people and make them love you enough to want to keep talking about you and keep them coming back. It's a wild feeling. This was also my first time working with Skyler Accord (Issues) and Brian Butcher (The Home Team). They both made it such a smooth and fun experience."

Smooth, indeed. The song is powered by old school R&B rhythms with a modern flair and Tyler's buttery smooth vocals. When he sings the chorus, "I'll be easy to find // Catch me running through your mind," it'll take up real estate in your brain long after the final note has faded out.

APOSTLE Releases New Single "Exiting the God Hologram", A Splinter in the Infinite Noumenon Out June 5.

APOSTLE dive into a thunderous sonic explosion juxtaposed against cathartic dynamics in their next single "Exiting the God Hologram". This offering is first on the tracklist of the band’s forthcoming full-length album, A Splinter in the Infinite Noumenon, scheduled for release on June 5, 2026 via Terminus Hate City.

In "Exiting the God Hologram" APOSTLE encourage listeners to sit with discomfort and the understanding that there is not one singular 'correct' way to experience or traverse through life. The song contains striking imagery of a blood-filled sea splitting in half and exposing the ground and aquatic life churning behind a curtain of surf. As a result of the split, two paths lay ahead - one right, one left. Whichever path is taken, only one view of reality, of 'truth', will be experienced.

The song begins with the approaching rumble of a train passing by at night, recorded from vocalist and guitarist Murice White’s apartment. Proceeding into the first section of "Exiting the God Hologram", powerful percussion provides the intensity that drives this portion of the musical arrangement. All-encompassing guitars and low bass melodies are joined by White's anguish-fueled harsh vocals.

A sudden short, sharp hit distinguishes the two characters of the track. A shadowy melody entwines amongst a pendulum-like groove. "Exiting the God Hologram" progresses through emotive passageways while anthemic energy arises from Murice and Michael’s vocals. The track ends returning to the void out of which it emerged, leaving behind a somber yet hopeful melody that awaits in the distance.

The album title references Carl Jung’s description of humanity as a “splinter in the infinite deity,” framing the record as an exploration of spiritual duality, grief, and self-examination. Across six tracks and 27 minutes, the band move through themes of loss, mortality, internal conflict, and eventual healing. The record serves as both a meditation on the human condition and a deeply personal tribute shaped by grief and remembrance.

DD,G emerged in the mid-2000s with an emotionally charged take on post-hardcore that helped define the era. As teenagers from Denver, their 2006 debut In Vogue became a landmark for Rise Records, blending synth-laced breakdowns, theatrical flair, and raw vulnerability. Follow-up albums like Worse Than a Fairy Tale and The Hot N' Heavy cemented their place in the scene, influencing a wave of bands that followed.

The tastemakers at VICE tipped the band as that which helped to "perfect a style of post-hardcore that other bands would model themselves after. Where other bands in the scene would regurgitate the same testosterone-tinged bro-rock, Drop Dead, Gorgeous made their mark by putting [emotional] vulnerability into song."

After a decade-long hiatus, core members Daniel "Stills" Stillman, Danny Cooper, and Jake Hansen returned in 2024 with a string of surprise shows and, in 2025, released their first new music in years with the single "Six Feet." The followup "Burn" continued that momentum. They closed out 2025 with "Sink Your Teeth."

SERPENT LORD Shares Title Track from Upcoming Album, 'The Once Forgotten Ways of Old'

Solo pagan black metal project SERPENT LORD will be releasing its debut album, 'The Once Forgotten Ways of Old,' on May 29, 2026 via Eisenwald Records. The project is now releasing the title track of the offering. Unlike the previous two singles, which were Bandcamp exclusives, "The Once Forgotten Way of Old" is now available on all streaming services and can be found at THIS LOCATION.

SERPENT LORD first slithered into existence in 2003, emerging as a solitary pagan black metal vessel forged by Jake Superchi (UADA, Ceremonial Castings). Though the project's first true album was recorded in 2005, the work was abruptly shelved and lay dormant for twenty years. Now, in the Year of the Snake, the ancient offering has been reborn and reimagined as 'The Once Forgotten Ways of Old,' preserving every note of its primordial conception.

The album was re-recorded in the cold heart of the Pacific Northwest between 2022 and 2025, engineered and mixed by Jake Superchi, and mastered by Arthur Rizk. The release features new artwork and the original logo created by Kris Verwimp, along with photography by Peter Beste.

Originally formed over two decades ago, SERPENT LORD existed largely in the shadows, issuing only a handful of demos before entering an extended period of dormancy. Yet, the creative force behind the project never faded. Ideas, fragments, and compositions endured across the years, shelved for the right moment, only fully taking shape and being realized in the Year of the Snake, when the vision was finally forged into its definitive form.

Early demo material already hinted at what SERPENT LORD would become: a severe balance between melodic grandeur and unrestrained aggression, with transitions between atmosphere and brutality, produced to enhance rather than obscure its intensity.

Founded by Jake Superchi (known for its creative force in UADA and CEREMONIAL CASTINGS), SERPENT LORD channels the spirit of ’90s pagan black metal. The album stands as a triumphant and immersive work - melodic, fierce, and steeped in ritualistic energy. Expansive riffing, evocative passages, and a dynamic interplay between harsh and atmospheric elements, both timeless and fully awakened.

The album was recorded and mixed by Jake Superchi, and mastered by Arthur Rizk, achieving a sound that retains raw edge while delivering clarity and depth. Folk Metal Duo FORGOTTEN SHRINE Present "Halo"

The enchanting and charismatic folk metal ensemble FORGOTTEN SHRINE have unveiled their new single "Halo". Comprised of Josh Alexander and Sofia Frasz (EXILED HOPE), the dynamic duo embrace country and pop elements as they explore an emotive narrative of wanting to see the best in someone despite witnessing a darker reality.

Josh Alexander shares: "When Sofia brought me this song in its demo form I was both excited and surprised at the melodic and lyrical structure. It's beautiful simplicity brings a breath of fresh air after a very dark and heavy part of our upcoming album, in a way that almost gives you whiplash. On another note, folk metal bands aren't exactly commonplace in the USA where we're from - and much in the way that European bands like Eluveitie have ballads that call back to their own folk traditions, 'Halo' is a callback to the Appalachian folk tradition here in America."

Sofia Frasz comments: "Last May, I got 'If I Die Young' by The Band Perry stuck in my head at random while out on a walk. When I got back, I played around with different melodies and finally landed on the chorus. I thought it might be fun to try out a style I'd never touched before, and hilarious to put a country/folk/pop song right next to some of the heaviest songs on the album; my approach to songwriting is very playful and goofy even when the subject matter is serious. I'd had the idea for the lyrics and the song title for a while, and they finally found a home in the lighter, softer melodies you hear on this song. Lyrically, 'Halo' is about seeing the worst sides of someone, and hoping that you're wrong about what you see. Even if they show you their true colors over and over again, it can be hard to accept that and see reality."

In "Halo", an array of string and folk instruments provide a bright and textural backdrop to the lead vocal melodies. Both Frasz and Alexander perform clean vocals on this song in a delivery that feels intimate and personal, and aptly conveys the lyrical theme. The genre influences of country, folk and pop are incorporated seamlessly into FORGOTTEN SHRINE's characteristic sound. From the catchy chorus hook to the dynamic instrumental arrangement, the band showcase their more experimental side in this new release.

Marking her first release since the 2024 album ENN, 'Healer' arrives after an extended period of international touring, where Eivør has performed across Europe, North America, Australia and New Zealand, steadily deepening her connection with a global audience.

Set within a dark, atmospheric sound world, 'Healer' blends a distorted piano-led bass line with cinematic strings and ambient textures. Driven by a steady, pulsing rhythm and carried by Eivør’s raw, expressive vocals, the track moves between fragility and release, like letting go in a storm while still carrying everything you’ve been through.

At its core, the song is a reflection on self-worth and resilience. It captures the tension between falling and finding your footing again, holding space for both doubt and quiet strength.

Eivør explains: “‘Healer’ is a conversation with my younger self - the one who once doubted everything and didn’t feel like she was enough. It lives in the space of falling and finding your footing. The song holds onto the idea that even in those moments, something stronger is quietly building.”

The accompanying video, directed by Faroese filmmaker Katrin Joensen-Næs, extends the emotional world of the song through a stark and symbolic visual language. Shot entirely in black and white, the film unfolds around two mirrored figures, exploring themes of identity, transformation and inner dialogue. All production design and costumes are created within this monochrome palette, reinforcing a visual language that reflects an inner emotional landscape. The video is inspired by the idea that time heals all wounds.

Following a period of near-continuous touring, 'Healer' signals a shift towards a more direct and emotionally immediate form of songwriting, while retaining the depth and physical intensity that define her work.

Eivør continues: “I poured my heart into this song. I hope it meets you where you are, and maybe offers you a sense of strength and healing.”
