TALLAH Add Experimental Twist To Nu-Core Roots With New Single, "augmented"

Following the chaos of their last two singles, Tallah return with “augmented”—a brutal, groove-heavy offering that throws back to their nu-core roots while flexing the wild experimentation that defines their upcoming album Primeval: Obsession // Detachment, out September 5 via Earache Records. Watch the official music video now below. Listen to the track on DSPs HERE.

Bassist Max Portnoy, who made the creative leap from drums to bass for this album, shares:

“Probably the most ‘nu-core’ track on the record. It feels very reminiscent of where we came from but still steps into the sonic world of Primeval, with acoustic guitars and live strings at points. The experimentation is sprinkled on every song this album. I also wrote ‘Augmented’ at the peak of my slap bass interest, and it made for the most intricate bass track in our discography. So many weird techniques crammed into this one. It’s a bitch to play.”

Commenting on the official music video, Portnoy continues

"In the studio, we wanted to use Josh's VHS camera to film some cool content, and we decided on 'augmented', as it was the first song we jammed together as a unit for this session. It was the song that really got us situated and in the right headspace for this record, so it made sense to film the studio video of this track."

The new track is Tallah at their most rhythmically unhinged—toggling between jagged grooves, acoustic breaks, and dense basswork that cements Max’s evolution as one of heavy music’s most creative rhythmic masterminds. Paired with Justin Bonitz’s raw, one-take vocal performance and a recording process that scrapped all editing and click tracks, “augmented” captures the primal, chaotic energy that’s earned the band over 29.7 million Spotify streams and 66 million YouTube views to date.

Like its predecessors “What we know” and “A primeval detachment,” “augmented” also ties directly into the album’s layered sci-fi narrative. The concept follows two characters, Ana and Sheelah, on a morally destructive journey across an alien world. Fans can dive deeper into the lore through The Primeval Game, a playable story-world that’s updated monthly with new clues, song teasers, and narrative expansions. Explore the game, built in collaboration with Enzo Interactive at primevalgame.com

Primeval: Obsession // Detachment arrives September 5 via Earache Records. Tracked completely live with no edits or safety nets, it’s Tallah’s most dangerous and defining work to date.

ABOUT TALLAH

Emerging from Pennsylvania in 2018, Tallah fuse the percussive force of second-generation drummer-turned-bassist Max Portnoy with the unpredictable dexterity of vocalist and viral phenom Justin Bonitz and the phenomenal guitarist duo of Derrick Schneider and Alex Snowden to form a sound that’s part brutalist nu-metal, part theatrical meltdown, and entirely their own. What began as a raw homage to the early-2000s metal they were raised on—Slipknot, Korn, Linkin Park—has since evolved into something far stranger and far more singular.

After making waves with their 2020 debut 'Matriphagy', a twisted concept album soaked in trauma and noise, the band were hailed by Knotfest as delivering “one of the best metal releases of the year” and by Metal Hammer as “leading the charge on the new wave of nu-metal.” The follow-up, 'The Generation Of Danger' (2022), saw them push their hybrid sound further into chaos—earning millions of streams, high-profile festival slots, and nominations at both the Heavy Music Awards and AIM Independent Music Awards.

But it’s on album three, 'Primeval: Obsession // Detachment' (out September 5, 2025 via Earache Records), that Tallah truly shatter what’s left of the mould. Decamping to Michigan to record the entire project live with longtime producer Josh Schroeder, the band abandoned edits, clicks, backing tracks, and rules. What remains is pure instinct—feral, volatile, and unrelentingly human.

Conceptually, the record unfolds across a sci-fi narrative that follows Ana, a nurse, and Sheelah, an assassin—two strangers manipulated by a shadowy force and driven to the edges of their morality. The mirrored structure, warped sonic callbacks, easter eggs and ambiguous lyrical layering reflect a story full of tests, dualities, and spiraling identity shifts.

To date, Tallah have clocked up 29.7 million Spotify streams and 6 million YouTube views.

Tallah Release Heaviest Song To Date - 'A Primeval Detachment'; Accompanying Music Video Out Now

One of modern metal’s most unpredictable forces, Tallah, have dropped their latest single,A primeval detachment,” from the forthcoming album Primeval: Obsession // Detachment, out September 5 via Earache Records. A sonic gut punch that heralds the start of the album’s second act, the track barrels into the darker depths of the record with no warning and absolutely no mercy.

The accompanying music video captures Tallah’s live insanity in all its sweat-drenched, limb-flailing glory. Shot in an underpass packed with fans, the video showcases the band in their natural habitat—raw, unhinged, and erupting with volatile energy like Mt. Vesuvius on steroids. At one point, frontman Justin Bonitz is seen hanging upside down from the ceiling mid-scream. Watch the video now below. The track will go live on streaming platforms from midnight, fans can pre-save it HERE.

Speaking on their latest single, Tallah share

“This is not only the heaviest entry on the record, but potentially the heaviest in our entire discography. It’s relentless, top to bottom. Acting as the opening track of Act 2, the intro to the song really sets the tone. The pretty string quartet from Act 1 is falling apart, and the album takes a much darker turn. The final breakdown of this track is going to be a highlight at live shows, guaranteed.”

Elaborating on the music video for “A primeval detachment”, Max Portnoy shares:

“Shooting this video affirmed one thing for me… We have the best fans. So many people rolled up to this random underpass on short notice. We had our friend pull up with a truck full of scaffolding, and we weren’t sure if the shoot would be shut down after 15 minutes of setting up, but our fans jumped in to help set up and tear down everything as fast as possible. Legitimately could not have done this video without them.”

In true Tallah fashion, the band has also launched The Primeval Game, a playable extension of the album’s concept designed in collaboration with Enzo Interactive. The immersive web-based experience drops players into the alien world that Primeval: Obsession // Detachment takes place in, and is updated monthly with new story content, song teasers, and hidden easter eggs. Play the game HERE. Speaking on the game, Justin Bonitz shares

“The ‘Primeval’ Game is a way to fully immerse yourself into this album. You get to interact with the world we’ve created and follow the story first hand. We’re updating the game every month, with new content that furthers the story, along with tons of album and song teasers and easter eggs scattered around. It’s a really fun and unique way of promoting an album that I’m surprised more bands aren’t doing.”

Primeval: Obsession // Detachment is Tallah’s third full-length—an uninhibited, ferocious concept record tracked entirely live with no click and no edits, just pure, unadulterated sonic chaos. Pre-order bundles are available now HERE Primeval: Obsession // Detachment arrives September 5th via Earache Records.

Tallah Announce Third Album; Drop New Single & Music Video "What we know"

Unpredictable, uncompromising and unrelentingly original, Tallah have never been easy to categorise. The Pennsylvania-bred unit are back with a vengeance today as they announce brand new album ‘Primeval: Obsession // Detachment’, due out September 5th via Earache Records and drop What we know—the first single and opening track.

Listen to "What we know" HERE and watch the accompanying music video Below.

Pre-Order 'Primeval: Obsession // Detachment" HERE.

Simultaneously maximalist, raw and unfiltered, “What we know” sets the tone for what’s to come—an album unshackled by rules or expectations. Blending acoustic guitars, trap-metal 808s, string quartets, talkbox solos and more into one furiously cohesive piece, the track is a mission statement for the chaos ahead.

“The first song that was written for the album, and easily my #1 Tallah song to date,” says bassist Max Portnoy. “The amount of experimentation on this track paved the road for the tone of the whole record. From performing the first half of the song on acoustic guitars, to layering trap-metal 808’s over a string quartet with dissonant plucks in the chorus, to a trading guitar solo with a talkbox and a slide, you can find so many fun tools we incorporated, without it feeling disjointed. To have all that experimentation, in a driving and energetic track with a massive chorus, made for my favorite piece of work yet. It was a no-brainer to start the record with this one.”

‘Primeval: Obsession // Detachment’ is a concept album rooted in narrative and boundless in scope. Set on an alien planet, it follows Ana, a nurse, and Sheelah, an assassin—two strangers pushed to the brink of their morality by the same mysterious group of beings. Their journeys spiral through tests of belief, identity, and loyalty, building toward a finale laced with twists, dualities, and mirrored consequences. Architect of the exceptional and intricate world-building Tallah have become known for on each of their albums, vocalistJustin Bonitz shares

“Primeval Obsession/Detachment is a concept album taking place on an alien planet. The story follows two characters, Ana (a nurse) and Sheelah (an assassin). Both are approached by the same group of beings, who ask the main characters to each perform a task that will test their values and push their morals to the limit before ending with twist after twist. The album explores morality, duty, personal beliefs, duality, and understanding one's place in society.”

Tracked live in Michigan with longtime producer Josh Schroeder, the record captures Tallah in their purest, most unhinged form. No click. No edits. No polish. Just instinct and execution. It also sees founding member, Max Portnoy, making a major creative shift from drums to bass and Justin recording the vocals for the whole album in one, continuous take.

Providing further context, Max Shares

“For me, this album is Tallah finding our voice. During the writing process, no boxes were in place. No rules were set. Whatever felt uniquely us, that was what made the cut. I'm not sure how to even label this record's sound beyond 'Tallah'. It's weird. It's experimental. It's driving, and energetic. It's raw. We recorded live, every instrument at the same time, with no click. That's how we play shows, so why would we record differently? This album also marks my first recording dedicated to bass. I translated my drum knowledge to a new instrument and it was a huge creative breath of fresh air for me.”

For vocalist Justin Bonitz, the experience was equally intense.

"I practiced for months and was able to record the entire album in one huge, continuous take with no edits or redos or anything! And I was recovering from pneumonia! Nobody is gonna believe me! It was honestly the highlight of my entire vocal career. I was unsure if I could pull it off, but I went into the booth, grabbed an SM57, turned off the lights, and whatever happened happened. I think it feels more intimate and naked with all the flaws and imperfections, which is perfect for the raw, organic sound of this album."

From mirrored track titles to reversed riffs, Primeval: Obsession // Detachment’ is Tallah at their most deliberate and deranged. It’s a labyrinthine listen made for close listening and repeat immersion. As with everything they do, the chaos is crafted, and the madness is methodical.

What we know’ is streaming now. ‘Primeval: Obsession // Detachment’ arrives September 5th via Earache Records.

Kansas City Melodic Hard Rock Outfit MCHNZ Release New Single “Gravity” via Earache Records

MCHNZ is a melodic hard rock project consisting of frontman, singer/songwriter, Eric Tomes (formerly of Awaiting Eli), guitarist Nic Trotter (formerly of Sidewise and Leo Project), and bassist Carlos Garcia (formerly of Awaiting Eli and OTEP).

These powerhouse musicians have the makings of a Rock juggernaut, with a crushing musical style that gives an ode to alternative music torchbearers like Bring Me The Horizon, Nothing More, I Prevail, and Architects. They capture a unique sound steeped in anthemic choruses, blasting guitar riffs, and electronic pop melodies.

Their new single “Gravity" marks the first official release via Earache Records, one of the longest running and most well known rock and metal record labels in the world. "Gravity" is from the band's upcoming debut album We Are Machines (set to come out late 2023), which was produced by Billboard chart-topping producer Chris Dawson (Seasons After, Saul, GEARS, Shallow Side, Any Given Sin) and mastered by veteran engineer Mike Kalajian.

The group has performed alongside a wide array of artists like Rob Zombie, Shinedown, Papa Roach, Tech N9ne, Killswitch Engage, All That Remains, Trivium, Nonpoint, Puddle of Mudd, Saliva, Tantric, and many more. MCHNZ recently performed in their hometown of Kansas City to a sold out crowd at Voodoo-Harrahs casino. This was the band’s first live performance since the Covid-19 pandemic shut down the world. With a series of dynamic and melodic radio friendly Rock anthems in hand, fans should catch MCHNZ live now, because it is only going to get bigger and better from here.

“'Gravity' is about the feeling you get when you have that special someone in your life and there are moments when you feel like gravity is pulling you together, with the way they look at you and move with you,” says Eric Tomes. “And on the flip side, there are other moments when it feels like anti-gravity takes over and complete chaos happens, but you fight to hang on to those feelings that ultimately brought you together in the first place,” concludes Tomes.

The video for “Gravity” was shot by seasoned director Tom Flynn ( I Prevail, Lamb of God) and is now being featured on Rock Rage Radio.

Watch the new video for "Gravity" below. “Gravity” dropped on all digital platforms on April 7, 2023 and impacts rock radio nationally on April 17, 2023.

Black Star Riders New Single "Catch Yourself" Out Now

NEW SINGLE CATCH YOURSELF ON OUT TODAY LISTEN below.

NEW ALBUM WRONG SIDE OF PARADISE
OUT 20TH JANUARY 2023 ON EARACHE RECORDS

IN-STORE ACOUSTIC PERFORMANCES WITH RICKY WARWICK IN JANUARY 2023
10th ANNIVERSARY UK TOUR IN FEBRUARY 2023

Just a few days ahead of their new album Wrong Side Of Paradise, Black Star Riders are thrilled to announce the launch of their brand new single Catch Yourself On. In addition, to celebrate the forthcoming record, front-man Ricky Warwick will participate in a series of in-store dates throughout the UK, playing a selection of the new tracks in an intimate acoustic setting.

Ricky Warwick comments: “ ‘Catch Yourself On’ is a phrase often used in my home country of Northern Ireland, it’s used to tell someone to ‘stop being ridiculous’ or ‘to get real’. We’re sadly becoming slaves to technology and social media (guilty as charged). We don’t think twice about sharing our inner most feelings and thoughts with a world of strangers… We seem to be losing the ability to think for ourselves. Technology is controlling us, instead we should be controlling technology. It feels like it’s already surpassing human interaction."

Catch Yourself On is taken from the band’s forthcoming album Wrong Side Of Paradise, which features 11 tracks, and was recorded in the Autumn of 2021 at Studio 606 in Northridge California and Toochtoon Sound in Redmond Oregon with producer and longtime BSR associate, Jay Ruston.

Wrong Side Of Paradise is available for pre-order worldwide here. Formats include: limited coloured vinyl (including green, blue, red and black/white split), black vinyl, signed CD, cassette and digital download. A special edition of the album containing two bonus tracks can be found on CD (which comes with a 24-page song booklet) and USB stick formats. Various collector bundles are also available, including one with an exclusive 12”.

Black Star Riders are:

Sam Wood (Guitar),
Robert Crane (Bass Guitar)

BLACK STAR RIDERS NEW ALBUM WRONG SIDE OF PARADISE OUT JANUARY 20TH ON EARACHE RECORDS

NEW SINGLE RIDING OUT THE STORM OUT NOW
NEW ALBUM WRONG SIDE OF PARADISE OUT JANUARY 20TH 2023
ON EARACHE RECORDS
10th ANNIVERSARY UK TOUR IN FEBRUARY 2023

Following the announcement of new guitarist Sam Wood, Black Star Riders, the Anglo American rockers featuring Ricky Warwick (Lead Vocals/Guitar), Robert Crane (Bass Guitar) and drummer Zak St. John, are excited to release their new single Riding Out The Storm, which is accompanied by a video, directed and produced by famed video maker Tony Aguilera (Jerry Cantrell, Killer Be Killed, Orianthi) in Los Angeles.

“Riding Out The Storm” video is available here.

Ricky Warwick comments: “As we get older, sadly we start to lose the ones around us who we love, having lost both my parents and some dear friends in the last few years I’ve started to question and look at my feelings on my own mortality and morality. I’ve come to realise that death is a part of life and even in the darkest days (that we all get sometimes), I’ve come to understand that every aspect of life should be an intensified experience and never taken for granted.”

He continues: “The video was shot in downtown Los Angeles and directed by Tony Aguilera. I love the cinematography and different camera filters that Tony used during the shoot. I think it complements the essence of the song, which conveys reflections of mortality and consequences of choice. Life must end eventually, but love doesn’t.”

Riding Out The Storm is taken from the band’s forthcoming album Wrong Side Of Paradise, which features 11 tracks, and was recorded in the Autumn of 2021 at Studio 606 in Northridge California and Toochtoon Sound in Redmond Oregon with producer and longtime BSR associate, Jay Ruston.

Society 1 To Be Rejoined By Ex-Drummer Dagon Destroyer On “Exit Through Fear” 20th Anniversary Tour

Shock Rock veterans Society 1 have announced that their former drummer Dagon Destroyer will be rejoining the band for their upcoming “Exit Through Fear” 20th anniversary tour. A large portion of the dates will be on the "Rise Of The Machines" tour with Static-X, Fear Factory, Mushroomhead and DOPE. Additional shows are still being booked.

The band's most successful album, Exit Through Fear, which was
originally released on Earache Records made an impression in 2003 due
to the first music video of the album to feature lead vocalist LORD ZANEperforming body suspension. Drummer Dagon was featured in the video and did a large portion of the subsequent touring.

"I was 19 years old when we filmed our Nothing music video for the
album Exit Through Fear with Zane suspending over my drumset. The
tours afterward were insane. Everything about Society 1 was insane,
especially for a kid. It's surreal that we're joining forces again
after 20 years and that we're out with Fear Factory and Static-X. It's
a dream for me. These two bands are a huge part of my life." said
Dagon

TALLAH Drop New Track & Music Video "For The Recognition"; New Album Out November 18th Via Earache Records

Nu-Core quintet Tallah have released the latest chapter of their ongoing world-building saga that will become their sophomore album, The Generation Of Danger (out November 18th via Earache Records). The brand new single is titled "For The Recognition" and lands with a suitably frenetic accompanying music video. Find the new track on streaming platforms HERE and watch the official music video below. Pre-order The Generation Of Danger HERE.

Speaking on the release of their latest track, Tallah frontman, Justin Bonitz, adds

“For The Recognition is a song about justifying why you are doing what you are doing. Blind ambition can only get you so far. If you have a dream, and you want to follow it to the end, you have to push yourself, be confident, and not allow anything or anyone to stand in your way. This is your vision, your story, and you have to do whatever it takes to bring all that hidden power to the surface and use it as fuel to show everyone how amazing you really are. Be honest and be the best”

Tallah founder and drummer, Max Portnoy adds

“When I wrote this song, I made sure the ending pit hit really hard but was simple enough for us to trash our set up live. We took that mindset into the studio as well and smashed tons of lamps, microwaves, vases, etc and put those recordings in the song.”

Tallah's sophomore album, The Generation Of Danger, will be released on November 18th via Earache Records and much like their debut album, Matriphagy, will revolve around around an elaborate and horrific story dreamt up by the band, that continues to unfold in the build up to release. Pre-orders are available now, HERE. "For The Recognition" follows previous singles "Shaken (Not Stirred)",  'The Impressionist' and 'Telescope', which have clocked up over 1.07 million Spotify streams and 308k views on YouTube combined

The Generation Of Danger is a concept album about a genius scientist who gets fed up with being swept under the run. After the multi-billion-dollar corporation that employs him takes credit for his latest, award-winning invention, he snaps and retaliates against them by forcing them to take part in the greatest experiment the world of science has ever seen.

The album offers fans more than just an album of pioneering nu-core metal. Whilst it will most certainly be lauded for Justin Bonitz's acclaimed aptitude for embodying numerous characters and emotions in his outstanding vocal shape-shifting and ability to meld the ever-blossoming ingenuity of Tallah's intrepid musicians, The Generation Of Danger will reward those who delve deeper into the album and its supplementary content. The album was recorded once more with producer Josh Schroeder at Random Awesome Studio and continues to build the fascinatingly dark nu-core metalbeast Tallah have created and set loose. Pre-orders for the album are available now from earache.com/tallah

ABOUT TALLAH

Emerging from Pennsylvania in 2018 and combining the percussive force of second-generation drummer Max Portnoy with the pure, war-torn fury of vocalist and YouTube sensation Justin Bonitz, nu-core gang Tallah are on a mission to revamp and modernize the much-loved sound of popular nu-metal sensations of the early 2000s.

Drawing inspiration from the musical influences of their youth (the likes of Slipknot, Korn and Linkin Park), Tallah fuse the razor-sharp precision of these acts with the raw edges of modern hardcore music displayed by current sensations Code Orange, Vein, Candy and Fire From The Gods.

The band's debut album Matriphagy, a harrowing concept album of brutally disturbing metal, was met with critical acclaim, with Slipknot’s Knotfest crowning it “one of the best metal releases of the year” and Metal Hammer declaring Tallah are ‘leading the charge on the new wave of Nu-Metal”. Matriphagy was also devoured by the fans, with the album racking up 13 million Spotify streams in the months since its release.

2021 saw Tallah indulged fans with a colossal collaboration “Vanilla Paste” (where they were joined by members of the formidable Chelsea Grin, Fire From The Gods and Guerrilla Warfare), team up with Avatar for their North American tour in Sept/Oct 2021, hit up spots at major USA festivals such as Blue Ridge Rock Fest and Welcome To Rockville, and receive nominations for Best International Breakthrough Band at the UK's Heavy Music Awards and Best Live [Streamed] Act at the AIM Independent Music Awards.

Tallah's cruelly ferocious new album The Generation Of Danger, due for release on November 18th, 2022 via Earache Records will only serve to extend their fascinatingly dark nu-core metal further into the metal community.

To date, Tallah have clocked up 16 million streams and 6 million YouTube views. They have over 114k monthly Spotify listeners and have had tracks added to 25 Spotify editorial playlists.

Tallah Announce New Album 'The Generation Of Danger'; Drop New Video For New Track "Telescope"

Nu-Core quintet Tallah, one of modern metal's most explosive and unbridled forces, have announced their sophomore full-length album, The Generation of Danger, today. The album will be released on September 9th, via Earache Records and much like their debut album, will revolve around around an elaborate and horrific story, dreamt up by the band that will unfold over the coming months in the build up to release. Pre-orders are available now, HERE.

To further push the world-building boundaries the band are known for, Tallah have also released a desktop video that accompanies today's announcement. Fans can play HERE to uncover aspects of the dark The Generation of Danger universe including the first new single 'Telescope' and its accompanying music video that was also released today. Watch the video below and find the track on streaming platforms HERE.

Speaking on today's announcement, Tallah frontman, Justin Bonitz shares

“'The Generation Of Danger' is a completely new and fresh concept for us, both lyrically and instrumentally. We wanted to take what made 'Matriphagy' so good and jack it up to 150%. The tracks are monstrous, daunting, and the story the music tells dives into the idea of people hiding what they truly desire until someone else comes along and forces it to surface. It's a concept album about a genius scientist who gets fed up with being swept under the rug. After the multi-billion-dollar corporation that employs him takes credit for his latest, award-winning invention, he snaps and retaliates against them by forcing them to take part in the greatest experiment the world of science has ever seen.”

Drummer, Max Portnoy adds

“Telescope is one of fastest and most chaotic songs on The Generation Of Danger. It was the first song I started working on for the record and it went through hundreds of changes. It’s one of my top picks from the album with the song having 2 different choruses. One being a melodic one and one with a more rap type of vibe. The song has a lot to offer.”

“The TGOD game was something I’ve been wanting to do since we started thinking of unique ways to present this album. It was an idea I hadn’t seen anyone do before and it’s the perfect way of setting up the album’s concept while offering loads of easter eggs and teasers. You’re essentially placed directly into the story and I feel it’s the most immersive thing we’ve ever done. I’m super proud of how it turned out.”

As with Tallah's debut full-length, Matriphagy, The Generation Of Danger offers fans more than just an album of pioneering nu-core metal. The album was recorded once more with producer Josh Schroeder at Random Awesome Studio and continues to build the fascinatingly dark nu-core metal beast Tallah have created and set loose.

In celebration of The Generation Of Danger, Tallah will be greeting fans old and new with a vast schedule of touring activity in 2022, starting with a mammoth 52 date trek with All That Remains, Miss May I and Varials on a US tour over March, April and May. Tickets Available HERE.

The band will also finally be hopping across the pond to Europe once more for Bloodstock Open Air and Brutal Assaultfestivals in August.
