About Jelly Roll:

Award-winning, Grammy nominated Nashville native singer/songwriter Jelly Roll (Jason DeFord) debuted Top 3 on the Billboard 200 All Genre Chart and #2 on the Top Country Album charts with his debut Country Album, Whitsitt Chapel (released June 2nd, 2023) - earning the biggest Country debut album in Billboard Consumption Chart history. Following his sweep at the 2023 CMT Music Awards where he earned 3 awards to become the most awarded artist of the night, the Billboard Country Power List Cover star and “country’s ‘most authentic’ new artist” (The New Yorker) received Billboard’s 2023 Breakthrough Award and the People’s Choice Award for Male Country Artist of the Year. Nominated for Best New Artist and Best Country Duo/Group Performance for “Save Me (with Lainey Wilson)” at the 2024 GRAMMY Awards, along with eight genre-spanning nominations at the 2024 iHeartRadio Awards and a win for best New Country and New Pop artist, Jelly Roll is one of three artists alongside Morgan Wallen and Luke Combs to have scored three Country Airplay #1s in 2023 and the first to do it with his first three singles. He has earned four consecutive #1s to date at Country radio and is “one of Nashville’s fastest rising stars” (The New York Times). A 4X winner at the 2023 People’s Choice Country Awards and the most nominated male at the 2023 CMA Awards, with five total nominations capturing his first CMA Award for New Artist of the Year, Jelly continues to break boundaries. His #1 hit single “Save Me” — a confessional, vulnerable expression of self-doubt — set the stage for his new season of life and took him to new heights including a Platinum certification from the RIAA on the heels of his 28-week reign at No. 1 on Billboard’s Emerging Artists chart. Most recently, “Save Me” earned Jelly his first ACM win for Music Event of the Year, and he just released his first single “I Am Not Okay” from his upcoming sophomore Country album, arriving later this year, following his four consecutive #1 singles: “Halfway To Hell,” “Save Me,” “Need A Favor” and “Son of A Sinner.”

Not just an artist but a humanitarian, Jelly Roll continues to resonate with fans on a global scale while racking up numerous milestones - from playing his sold-out hometown show for 18,000 fans at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena to donating a recording studio at the juvenile detention center he served in as a teen, to the release of his record-breaking documentary by ABC News, “Save Me” - the most watched music documentary on the platform - to his visits with rehab centers and those incarcerated across the US. Featured by Nightline, GMA, GMA3, The New York Times, LA Times, The Tennessean, Billboard, Variety, American Songwriter, CMT and more, his self-built, unconventional industry rise and unique fan connection has garnered praise from numerous outlets, with Variety noting, “for everyone who’s facing the same struggles, Jelly Roll is their Springsteen,” and American Songwriter echoing, “with a string of accolades and an extremely dedicated following, Jelly Roll has emerged as a force to be reckoned with in the music industry.”

It’s been a rough handful of years for British Columbia-based extremity-laced progressive rockers, Anciients. When the quartet unleashed their Voice of the Void album in 2016, the world appeared to be their oyster and things seemed ripe for the picking. They were coming off the success of their Heart of Oak debut from 2013, its ascendancy due in large part to a collective uptick in interest for involved, forward-thinking music. The public had moved beyond toe-dipping and tire-kicking, and were instead doing headfirst dives into exploring the likes of Opeth, Mastodon, Baroness, The Ocean, Intronaut and others who originally hailed from the extreme music underground, but had since grown, matured and scrubbed behind their ears to include heaping and healthy chunks from the outskirts of their record collections and influence pools.

The Band That Auto-Correct Loves to Fuck With™ shared stages with everyone from High on Fire and Goatwhore to Boris and Lamb of God, were in the midst of a European tour when they discovered they were JUNO Award (Canadian Grammy equivalent) winners in the heavy metal/hard rock category. The world was ready to accept Anciients into its welcoming arms. Anciients was gearing up to employ takeover methods, specifically their brand of thunderous rhythms and labyrinthine riffing bolstered by a road warrior mentality. And then, the momentum petered out and the band seemingly fell off the face of the earth.

Today, Anciients are ready and poised to resume their spirited quest for heavy metal paramountcy. There’s no doubt the band is back and with a stunning and beautiful collection of ten songs on offer in the form of new and third album, Beyond the Reach of the Sun, they are positioning to reestablish themselves as a dominant force for those who love windmilling their tresses around thoughtful tempo changes, complex harmonic layers and driving power chord shifting. But what the hell happened and where did they disappear to?

“Basically,” explains guitarist/vocalist Kenny Cook, “right before Voice of the Void was recorded, my wife had our first kid. She ended up having heart complications and almost passed away from it. We recorded the last record and once it came out, I was kind of just focusing on her, dealing with her health issues and keeping that in check. I wasn’t at the stage where I could be gone for half a year, especially with a new kid. Long story short, she’s happy and healthy now, but dealing with family issues was the main priority. It was a bit of a road.”

Adding to that bit of Anciients camp turmoil, guitarist/co-vocalist/co-founding member, Chris Dyck and the band parted ways in January of 2017. This left a gaping lineup hole at an inopportune juncture in the band’s timeline. Not only did Cook have to deal with the absence of his long-term song and lyric writing partner, but Dyck was also someone he had been splitting vocal duties with since the pair formed the band in 2009. And then, while helping his wife with her recovery, raising their new born and “because we wanted to raise our son in a small town environment,” the Cook family uprooted to Columbia-Shuswap four hours east of the Vancouver area, where drummer Mike Hannay, Brock MacInnes (Dyck’s replacement) and brand spanking new bassist Rory O’Brien still reside.

“We knew Brock from other bands he’d been in and we knew he’d be a great fit,” explains Cook. “He actually filled in for Chris on a tour we did back in 2015. As far as the vocals, I just found myself picking up the slack on both ends. It felt somewhat natural, it was definitely different. Doing the lyrics myself for the first time was somewhat daunting, but it was also something done out of necessity. But even when Chris was in the band I handled 80-90% of the vocals anyway, so it didn’t change all that much.”

Then, that whole COVID-19 thing you probably heard about once or twice hit in 2020 and put another restraining bolt on Anciients' activity, especially touring as the Canadians found themselves dealing with stricter travel restrictions and mandates than many other countries; most notably, not being able to cross the border for almost two years. Once the dust settled, Cook had to adjust to being the lone vocalist and how that impacted the material he was writing while navigating being creative with distance between Anciients’ members for the first time. Not a biggie, as in-person writing sessions are more of a rarity these days, but because of the time elapsed since Voices of the Void, things/interests/influences changed and the band ended up scrapping half of an album’s worth of material and starting fresh. When they put their heads down at the end of 2021 with the focus being Beyond the Reach of the Sun, what was revealed a year later was more streamlined and slithery, more chest-thumpingly direct, more epic and triumphant sounding. Riffs come in explosive layered packets. Leads, harmonies and melodies are more on par with wind-tussled mountain tops instead of sweaty bar shows and the band moves with finely honed, martial accuracy as conducted by Hannay’s rocket-in-the-pocket staccato swing and accents.

Songs like “The Torch” blaze with the shirtless glisten of ‘70s stadium rock power. “Cloak of the Vast and Black” swirls and whirls with a combination of hardcore intensity, grunge groove and expansive six-string parries. “In the Absence of Wisdom” is a hurricane-sized maelstrom of classic and prog rock elevated to grandiosity by a return to their growling sludge/death early years as the song/album concludes. The album’s first single, “Melt the Crown” mixes cues from legendary fellow hosers Rush and Harlequin, turn-of-the-millennium post-metal and the most psychedelic corners of the Rise Above Records roster.

“The new record has a lot more of our rock side,” Cook offers, “and leans towards those elements of our sound and personalities, whereas Voice of the Void was pretty crushing all the way through. With the new material we’ve tried to add more dynamics to the music and give the songs more room to breathe."

Album opener “Forbidden Sanctuary” is the soundtrack to exploration, of new worlds and sonic arrangement as sine-wave guitars pull from vintage Mercyful Fate covens and Krautrock communes with synths opening up novel textural avenues, as they do on the ethereal wispiness and space rock/sci-fi soundscapes of the instrumental “Candescence.” Beyond the Reach of the Sun sees synths and keyboards making their first appearance on an Anciients record and were played by producer/mixer Jesse Gander and Justin Hagberg at the former’s Rain City Recorders studio. In addition to augmenting the album with his skill on the black and whites, Hagberg — a member of the recently reunited 3 Inches of Blood —  also helped Anciients navigate a significant last-minute hurdle, one that threatened to pull the reins back on their comeback roar.

“We lost our bass player literally a month before we were going in to record and were kind of up shit’s creek. Justin also plays in a band called Ritual Dictates with Rory and is the one who brought his name up.”

O’Brien, a former member of Vancouver’s Bushwhacker, was absolutely interested when approached by Anciients.

“We got lucky and he saved our asses at the last minute.”

Cook stepped up to the challenge of being the sole lyricist to drape Beyond the Reach of the Sun in deeply personal expressions of the inner turmoil, fear and isolation he’d experienced in himself and saw in others over the past few years. There were moments where he didn’t know whether loved ones were going to pull through and what life was going to look like were tragedy come to pass. Mental health and people living life without being able to see any light at the end of the tunnel became a very prevalent theme to tracks like “Despoiled” and “Beyond Our Minds.” And while the line that became the album’s title is taken from a David Attenborough-narrated Planet Earth documentary, it speaks more to the coming and going of despondency when one doesn’t know how dark the darkness is going to get, as in “Is It Your God,” which pulls from the manifestation of grief and how it can shatter belief systems.

“That one is a little more personal to me and my situation,” Cook says somberly. "I had a good friend of mine from when I was younger pass away from cancer. His mother was super-religious and there were ideas taken from her questioning how could something like that happen to her when she had such a strong faith.”

The title and themes of stripped away hope and piled on anguish and tumult were parlayed into the album’s spectacular cover art. Created by Adam Burke (Nightjar Illustrations), the drawing is part-pulp novel cover, part-Franzetta landscape, part-sci-fi movie poster and all a vast illustration one can easily lose themselves in while the record spins in the background.

“We gave him the concept and basic outline of how we wanted the cover to look and he took it to a whole new dimension. It turned out pretty wild!”

With all being said and done, Anciients have returned! They stand ready to ascend the prog metal ladder and get back to doing what they do best with a weighty and dense, but wholly accessible, album. It’s a collection of ten songs that possesses the ability to have those furiously banging heads also tapping into their power of self-reflection and contemplation to ponder the finality of existence, the value of life and their place in the universe.

“Totally! We’re going to take as many of the opportunities that come to us. The hiatus is over and I think with the new members and everyone being on the same page we’re ready to get out there as soon as possible. We missed out on a huge block after the last record, so we’ve got to make up for lost time. Now that everyone is happy and healthy, we plan to hit it hard.”

And So I Watch You From Afar Share Video for "North Coast Megafauna"

IRISH LEFT FIELD ROCK INSTRUMENTALISTS AND SO I WATCH YOU FROM AFAR RELEASE VIDEO FOR NEW SINGLE "NORTH COAST MEGAFAUNA"

TRACK LIFTED FROM BAND'S FORTHCOMING FULL-LENGTH, MEGAFAUNA, DUE OUT AUGUST 9 — PRE-ORDER

BAND ALSO SHARES VIDEO FOR PREVIOUS SINGLE "DO MÓR" — WATCH

Stalwart Irish post-rock outfit And So I Watch You From Afar have released "North Coast Megafauna," the latest single from their forthcoming seventh album Megafauna, which releases August 9 via Berlin's Pelagic Records and Velocity Records in the U.S.

Listen here. Watch the video below.

The clip echoes the band's tribute to their homeland throughout the album. Their beloved places of Belfast, the Irish coast, and the surrounding forests are brought to life here by the intense, almost possessed choreography of dancer Sarah Flavelle.

The band also released a visualizer for the previously released track "Do Mór." Watch here.

A tribute to the two places the collective call home, their beloved Portrush on the Irish North Coast and the beating heart that is Belfast, Megafauna is headstrong exploration and heartfelt appreciation with all the intuition, intimacy and humor of four firm friends approaching their 20th year as a band and a nod to the Irish roots that simultaneously ground and propel them forward.

Like so many other bands and creatives throughout the pandemic, ASIWYFA found themselves suddenly stationary, with any plans outside of their immediate vicinity put on indefinite hold. However, where this might have seen other acts falter, ASIWYFA took comfort in their communal bond and, as soon as they were able, began writing a record that quickly became a love letter to the communities they call home.

The intent behind Megafauna is clear from the outset. Two guitars, bass, and drums all recorded in a week erupt into effervescent life in an endorphin rush of collaboration and togetherness after the physical and psychological wilderness of isolation.

The similarly named opening track "North Coast Megafauna" serves as an appropriate anthem for the record and indeed for a band reinvigorated too. Proudly wearing their noisy math-rock, free jazz and experimental indie melting pot on their sleeves, ‘North Coast Megafauna’ is an eclectic, care-free confrontation of ASIWYFA’s joyously jarring collection of musical influences and cultural inspirations.

Megafauna is the band's first new music since 2022's critically-acclaimed Jettison,an ambitious multi-media ensemble piece packed full of experimentation and collaboration. Jokingly referring to Jettison as their mature record’, the band framed the writing of Megafauna around the their long-running mantra of "DO THE SCARY THING," which sees ASIWYFA constantly hurtling towards newness, towards progress, evolution and the unknown. Whilst the new record is ASIWYFA taking on a more familiar, traditional form; in this post-Jettison, post-pandemic world, Megafauna is a deafening and defiant statement of intent from the band's propulsive core — a clarion call for the communities that shape them, a resplendent celebration of togetherness over separation.-

And So I Watch You From Afar's Rory Friers says the title track is "one of our favorite tracks on the record. A love letter to the North Coast, our friends there, the energy, the cold days skateboarding, the long summers in the sea, our beloved music venue, the closeness of it all. It has the heart of the land there with the weight of the North Atlantic."

Sanguisugabogg Share "Permanently F**ked" Video

Ohio's notorious, boundary-pushing, and bloodsucking death metal outfit Sanguisugabogg — Cody Davidson, drums; Drew Arnold, guitars/bass; Devin Swank, vocals; and Ced Davis, guitars/bass — have shared the video for the brand new and gloriously irreverent single "Permanently Fucked." The video finds the band in performance mode... with some bloody imagery woven throughout.

Watch it Below

"The meaning of the song is a drastically blown out of proportion way of showing how much you love someone," the band states. "We got inspiration of the song from the 2018 horror film Pet where Dominic Monaghan's character volunteers himself as a vice for Ksenia Solo's character so she can torture and humiliate them and they're bound to their cage so she doesn't free the urge to murder someone instinctively and doesn't get arrested or imprisoned for killing people."

This is the first taste of new music since last year's 2023's Homicidal Ecstasy. That album followed 2021's Tortured Whole. The band continues to slice up uncompromising, in-your-face, and not-for-the-weak death metal that siphons inspiration from early to mid-'90s and early '00s death metal and brutal death metal/grindcore presented in their own style with a unique twist that pleases every style of metal maniac.

SÓLSTAFIR Shares New Song + Music Video “Hin Helga Kvöl”

Icelandic post-rockers SÓLSTAFIR are pleased to now reveal the brand new single, “Hin Helga Kvöl!" Meaning "The Holy Torment," the new offering conjures up nostalgia as it harkens back to the band's heavy roots while still layered with thick ambience and deep emotion. The song can be found along with a music video, which was directed by Karl Ágúst Guðmundsson for Polarama, at Below.

"It is a song about dying,” says guitarist/vocalist Aðalbjörn Tryggvason (guitar, vocals). “It is

about the realization that you will die sooner than later and consciously witnessing the end of your own world. It is one’s own personal idea of Ragnarök - or Armageddon. What happens afterwards? Are we reborn or are we simply food for the worms…”

SÓLSTAFIR recently announced signing to Century Media Records. They are no strangers to the music world with their 20+ years of performing across the globe as they consistently amaze audiences with their hearts on their sleeves from the first note. With a full catalog of truly exceptional timeless hits to perform, as well as some much-anticipated new music, the atmospheric Icelandic rock n’ roll sound that is uniquely SÓLSTAFIR always delivers to those who bear witness to their epic sets that take you on a journey through the ice and snow, fire and lava and breathtaking soundscapes of their homeland.

VESTIGE Unveil Total Package on First Single

VESTIGE formed during an intense period of individual turmoil. But after vocalist and guitarist Théodore Rondeau and his old Naraka bandmates Pierre-André Krauzer (bassist) and Quentin Regnault (drums) bonded with guitarist Thomas Petit over a shared love for metal innovators like Alcest and Deftones, together, the four-piece embarked on their own journey toward a modern vision of metal that's both cathartic and crushing.

Last year, Vestige achieved their first milestone by signing with Season of Mist, even though they had yet to release any music. This year, the band have played several shows in their native France, including a recent date with Celeste. Now, people all over the world can hear the first glimmer of their debut album, Janis, with lead single "Deviens la Nuit".

"'Deviens La Nuit' catalyzes everything that Vestige represents in a single piece of music", Rondeau says. "Between deep melancholy and the violence of realization, it marks the beginning of the journey that is Janis".

Watch the colorfully strobing video for "Deviens la Nuit", which was directed by Mathie Ezan (Cult of Luna, Hans Zimmer) Below.

Janis comes out September 6 on Season of Mist.

Vestige draw inspiration from modern metal innovators like Alcest and Deftones, but "Deviens la Nuit" encapsulates all the individual pieces that make this band unique. Within the span of 5 minutes, they shift seamlessly from chugging riffs and tortured growls to melodic shoegaze and atmospheric post-metal before closing with a doomy and dissonant, head-banging breakdown. It's here, within this dark night of the soul, that they bring us to the edge of despair so that we can feel what it's like to be born anew.

"Cathartic, gentle, violent but enveloping, 'Deviens La Nuit' is the transformation and realization of the condition in which Theodore composed it", Vestige says. "We hope that this song will invite you to experience this introspective journey with us".

Théodore Rondeau, the creative initiator behind VESTIGE, embarked on a journey of forming the band during a turbulent phase in his life. Emerged as a creative vessel for a complicated emotional journey, the band transcends the boundaries of individual therapy into a collaborative force that hopefully resonates with the feelings that may be all too common for the human experience.

With a profound connection to their craft, VESTIGE pour their souls into their debut album, infusing it with a captivating blend of melancholy, desperation, and catharsis. The music serves not only as an expression of their turmoil, but as a conduit for listeners to navigate the complexities of their own emotions. Through this process, VESTIGEbecomes a project with the potential to connect with people on a profound level, forging a collective experience through the universal language of music.

The formation of VESTIGE’s lineup reads like a musical destiny unfolding: Pierre-André Krauzer on the bass, Quentin Regnault on drums, and Théodore on vocals and guitar. They first crossed paths during their tenure in Naraka, a band that shared stages with icons like Cradle of Filth and Alcest. This initial connection laid the groundwork for the formation of the band. Not long after, the addition of Thomas Petit on the second guitar solidified the lineup, bringing a sense of completeness to the ensemble. The band’s sonic identity now established; VESTIGE was ready to share this experience with the world.

The signing with Season of Mist brings the band’s first milestone, allowing VESTIGE to share their journey in the form of their debut album, Janis. Poised for release in late 2024, the album is a culmination of their collective efforts and a statement of the band’s arrival in the heavy music scene. Weaving through atmospheric shoegaze textures, melodic landscapes and intense, tormented moments that reflects the emotional spectrum of the human experience, the band established a foothold into the genre of modern metal.

Autumn Kings Drop Video for New Single "Hellhound"

Pop-rock band AUTUMN KINGS have dropped the video for their latest single "HELLBOUND," as heard on SiriusXM's Octane.

Watch the video, directed by Henry Nadasdi, Below.

"'HELLBOUND' speaks to the story of an individual who is fighting their demons, and digging to discover the root cause of the psychological bleeding they are experiencing," says the band's Jake Diablo about the track. "After digging long and hard, they realize that the solution is right in front of them. Wake up, cut out the 'victim' mentality, and utilize the gift of choice that we each possess to do what is necessary to improve our lives."

The band's prior single "Sleep When I'm Dead" clocked over 1.2 million streams on Spotify and has been top 20 on Octane since February 1, amassing over 500 spins during that period and reached No. 37 on the Mediabase Active Rock chart, including official adds at WRIF/Detroit, Music Choice, WIIL/Chicago, WHXR/Portland, and many more.

Last fall, the band dropped their video for "Go For Gold." Watch it here.  It's a super catchy jam that will live rent-free in your brain. The accompanying visual strings together performance footage and tells the band's story. It's like a digital bio set to music.

The band has had its music played on Football Night In America; at Detroit Red Wings games; in Major League Baseball stadiums; and on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert.  They spent the summer of 2023 touring Pacific and Japanese military bases and have opened for Bush, Dorothy, Tea Party, X Ambassadors, and Mutemath.

Stay tuned for more from Autumn Kings.

Canadian indie folk trio Wild Remedy presents debut EP 'Songs From Home' and grounding video for 'Wild Remedy'

"Channelling hope, their heartfelt delivery fosters a sense of connection with the artist rooted in the human condition and shared experience... Lingering long after the last note fades, their music is a heartfelt invitation to join them in their grassroots hope-filled journey of personal growth, expression and inner reflection" ~ The Spill Magazine

"Wild Remedy's inevitable success will rest entirely on their undeniable raw talent... utterly captivating. The band creates music that feels eternally relevant, their voices blending seamlessly to ground us emotionally before launching us into a world of soaring melodies" ~ Amplify Music Magazine

Canadian indie folk trio Wild Remedy presents their debut 'Songs From Home' EP, and the video for 'Wild Remedy', created and animated by: Jordan Van Der Linden.

The EP is an honest collection about the realities of growing up and becoming, all set to dance-worthy rhythms and unforgettable melodies. Making music that radiates like a beacon of hope, this all-female trio of Ottawa-born musicians' music is rooted in a love for chilling harmonies and all things folk.

In these five tracks, Wild Remedy breathes fresh life into the Canadian folk genre by taking listeners on a journey of self-discovery to an inspiring soundtrack that will leave a lasting echo in the listener's heart. 'Songs From Home' is Wild Remedy's invitation to be part of something truly inspiring, invigorating and soul-nourishing. Their endearing brand of storytelling is also a vulnerable reflection of the trio’s heart and a place where listeners can find solace and contentment in their music.

Wild Remedy is made up of Amy Russett, Colleen Roberston and Shay Mahoney, who now has one foot in Ottawa and one in Montreal. Influenced by everything from alternative pop to folk-rock, gospel to disco, the band has been an emerging force in the Canadian folk scene since 2022, entertaining audiences with their catchy originals, new takes on folk classics, and haunting harmonies.

With strong harmonies and upbeat folk acoustics as strong points, Wild Remedy's songs range from a classic stomp-and-holler sound that makes you want to dance, to thought-provoking indie vibes that leave the listener feeling uplifted. Wild Remedy spins a beautiful sonic web between singer-songwriter offerings, indie pop and Canadian folk - perhaps what it might sound like if Joni Mitchell and Boygenius had a not-so-secret folk band.

“The release of this EP is monumental not only in our musical career as a band, but also our journey as artists and musicians, ourselves. Each song is a glimpse into fractions of our life stories, and to be sharing it with the world is a privilege. These songs have been written as a result of some of the hardest moments we’ve lived through over the last two years, but to take those challenges and make them into music is such a beautiful resolution to those stories. We’re eternally grateful to be on this journey together and with each person who listens,” says Shay Mahoney.

The band recently released the effervescent near-title track 'Home Song', about which Mahoney notes, "I was thinking about how life might be different if I had chosen a different career path, lived in a different city, or maybe just stayed home in Ottawa after high school. But as I thought about it, I discovered that more things make up ‘home’ than we realize. And ‘Home Song’ was born from this discovery: I could wander ‘round the globe, and home would still be found in the places where – and in the people with whom – I know I belong.”

The EP also includes 'What I Did Find', 'Wild Remedy' and two folk offerings that stir the heart and echo the bright sound and iconic harmonies the band has become known for.  Paying homage to their folk roots, their music offers the simplicity found in many Americana-Country songs, while drawing from the dynamic storytelling key of indie-folk.

Having bonded over their mutual love of music and songwriting, the trio met in 2020 and finally and made their local debut in 2022, performing at farmers markets around the Ottawa area. With Amy’s powerhouse vocals and guitar, Colleen’s smooth alto tones, and Shay’s ability to sing and play anything (including guitar, mandolin, cajon and harmonica), folks started to take notice. In 2023, the band released their first two original single songs, involving producer Nate Hardy, which were met with loads of love and grew them a grassroots fanbase.

'Home Song' is out now everywhere digitally, including SpotifyApple Music and Bandcamp. The full 'Songs From Home' EP will be released on June 14. Wild Remedy's EP release party takes place in Ottawa on June 21, followed by 'The Wild Tour' with fellow Canadian indie folk trio Wild Bloom, and a handful of shows in July and August.

Brooklyn electronic artist Pas Musique releases 'Too Civilized' single, subverting our understanding of progress

"A glitchy and eerie trip... an adventurous sonic thread, the electronic maestros we know as Pas Musique weave an instrumental path inspired by pioneers such as Zoviet France and NEU!" The Spill Magazine

"Fans of 1980s electronic music will recognise the influences: early monophonic synths that spit out jarring sawtooth and creamy muted wave forms in equal proportion, as well as the one-note crunchy handclaps, tinny electronic hi-hats and thudding beat repetition to infinity" ~ Joyzine

"Pas Musique recall an industrial that once was, such cacophonous and ominously bustling sounds from the likes of Throbbing Gristle, Zoviet France, or more modern wreckers of civilization like the Belgian duo Silk Saw" ~ PopMatters

"Constantly pushing the boundaries of electronic music... Like neurons firing impulses on all cylinders contrasted by lightly biting buzzsaw nicks, much electro-knob-twiddling and a menacing sonic undercurrent" ~ Big Takeover Magazine

"An appealing if appropriately bizarre flow to everything... effective sound art" ~ Scene Point Blank

Brooklyn-based experimental electronic artist Pas Musique presents the single 'Too Civilized', previewing his new full-length album 'Come Follow Me', out on July 16 via NYC-based label Alrealon Musique. This song blasts the myth of progress, implying that the shiny veneer of progress is actually masking a society and systems that have been degraded - a regression of our own making.

Influenced by such artists as Faust, Coil, Zoviet France and NEU, Pas Musique was launched in 1995 Brooklyn as a solo abstract-sound project of founder Robert L. Pepper, having since evolved through different lineups and variations of experimental electronic iterations.

The 'Come Follow Me' album pays tribute to the late Frank Tovey a.k.a. Fad Gadget, one of Pepper's top musical influences. These 80's synthpop-inspired compositions with a touch of modern noise and lyrics that are inspired by metaphysical and philosophical themes, interlaced with abstract vocalizations. These seven new experimental electronic krautrock-influenced tracks were previewed by the title track.

"“Too Civilized” is a concept in regard to how the human civilization tricks itself into thinking that we are perfect and we have all of the solutions. We choose not to see the consequences of our actions when it comes to technology, thinking and so called “progress”.  Before technologies and ideologies are put in place, we need to sort out the downsides of these concepts and make them the best that we can. Often it seems like we push out these concepts for money and power without sorting out the bad parts," says Robert L. Pepper.

The new album follows up 2023's 'Shaman' album and 2021's 'Amateur Radio', when Pas Musique was a four-piece consisting of Jon V Worthley, Michael Durek, Jesse Fairbairn and Robert L. Pepper. While still involved with live performances (and other recordings currently in the works, it is solely Pepper involved in the new album.

"This is the first album where I added vocals and not solely vocalizations. It's a balance of the commercial and the strange. It is a tribute to the pop-industrial project Fad Gadget so I tried to keep my experimental edge and add in some pop elements. I never thought I would be trying something like this. But if you know Pas Musique's history, we change periodically with different styles. I like to keep the sound fresh and challenge the project sonically," says Robert L. Pepper.

"It started with a concept of "Could I make an album with vocals, while dipping into a pop edge?" So I wrote sequences that use some 80's sounding synth sounds in the style of Fad Gadget. Then the vocals just came to me. 'Come Follow Me' was the first track that materialized and then the workflow began. Tracks just evolve naturally."

Since emerging on the music scene 29 years ago, Pas Musique has pursued musical elements of electronic and experimental music with krautrock undertones. Pas Musique has collaborated with many great musicians, including Faust, Rapoon, ZEV, Philippe Petit, HATI, Chester Hawkins, Jim Tuite, and many more. Pas Musique has performed in 18 countries and throughout the United States. Pas Music is also currently working with Robin Storey of Rapoon on other completely avant, experimental, improvisational compositions.

As of June 10, the 'Too Civilized' single will be released everywhere digitally, including SpotifyApple Music and Bandcamp. The full album by the same name is out on July 12 via Alrealon Musique. Available on CD and digitally, it is already available for pre-order via Bandcamp.

SETH Mount Insurrection on New Single

In the shadow-clad heart of a forsaken world, Seth smolder with rebellion against the oppressive night. The historic French black metal band are issuing a new declaration of war with their upcoming eighth album, La France des maudits.

Today, Seth are releasing the third single from La France des maudits. "Insurrection" is a hymn of the damned that heralds the dawn of a new era, where the chains of servitude are shattered and the throbbing heart of revolution is laid bare.

Watch the visualizer for "Insurrection" Below.

La France des Maudits is out on Bastille Day, July 14, via Season of Mist.

Pre-order & pre-save: https://orcd.co/sethlafrancesdesmaudits

"Insurrection" is a blackened tome carved from the anguished wrath of exile. On their new single, Seth speak for pariahs, the decried and those heretics who are cast out from the grace of a callous heaven. It's an ode to liberty, equality and truth. The frenetic riffs are a defiant thrust against the overseer, each crashing cymbal a challenge to the throne of an absent deity.

"Le Diable st avec nous" St. Vincent cries, cutting through the treacherous but triumphant melodies with the same cold and unforgiving reserve as the steel that once severed crowns.

In the solemn shadows of a lyrically resurrected Paris, where the whispers of revolution still haunt the cobblestones and the phantom caress of the guillotine's blade lingers in the air, stands a band – not merely of musicians, but of modern Marats, Robespierres in leather and lace, anointed with the spirit of insurrection. SETH, the harbingers of a dark yet fervidly awaited dawn, are poised once more to unleash a tempest upon the sanctified silence of the contemporary music scene with their newest auditory uprising, La France des Maudits.

The history of black metal formation SETH and Season of Mist spans back to the early days of the French metal scene. The band’s debut Les Blessures de L’Ame (1998) was one of the first releases on the label. This album is now regarded as a cornerstone in French black metal, pioneering the usage of their native tongue on a black metal record.

The release of Les Blessures de L’Ame quickly gained international attention and SETH built a solid fanbase. The French blasphemers signed a two-release deal with Osmose Productions and participated on the MAYHEM cult tribute album Originators of the Northern Darknessalongside IMMORTAL and BEHEMOTH. The second full-length The Excellence came out in 2000 and featured a contribution from none other than Fenriz (DARKTHRONE), who wrote the lyrics for the song Let Me Be The Salt In Your Wound.

Shortly after, the group recorded their third album Divine-X (2002) at the Excess Studios in Rotterdam (EPICA, AFTER FOREVER, SINISTER). This record demonstrated the ability of the band to mix gloomy and violent atmospheres and received extensive coverage from the international metal press at the time.

Returning to the Netherlands to record the fourth album Era-Decay(2004), two new members joined the ranks of SETH: vocalist Black Messiah and guitarist Cyriex. Afterwards, the band was invited to play at the prestigious Inferno festival in Norway in 2005.

A long hiatus followed, until the band returned in 2011 to play an exclusive show in Germany with the German cult act BETHLEHEM. The band re-joined the ranks of Season of Mist, eventually releasing The Howling Spirit (2013) and embarking on a European tour with PESTILENCE. Several appearances at major festivals followed, including Hellfest and Graspop Metal Meeting, concluded by a Canadian headliner tour with new vocalist Saint Vincent (BLACKLODGE).

Celebrating the 20th anniversary of Les Blessures de L’Ame in 2018, SETH exclusively performed the entire album at festivals in Switzerland, Canada (Messe de Morts) and Belgium (Thronefest). The French label Les Acteurs de l’Ombre productions released a live recording of these shows, called 20 ans de Blasphème. The band’s new line-up features members of LOUDBLAST, ARKHON INFAUSTUS and MELTED SPACE.

In the twilight year of 2021, within Paris' shadow-ridden crypt, Studio Sainte Marthe, an album was birthed from SETH's tumultuous revelation, christened, La Morsure du Christ. Earning plaudits of wonder, it was no mere collection of hymns, but a solitary harbinger of deconstruction, a cataclysm of unseen proportions. Inspiration seeped from Notre-Dame de Paris—her skeletal frame ablaze in a 2019's firestorm—an emblem of decaying faith for a godforsaken era. As heavy as the iron heart of a guillotine, La Morsure du Christ echoed through the chambers of 2021, reigning supreme in a multitude of international & French metal charts, as well as its inclusion on premier streaming platform playlists. Bold symphonies interwoven with razor-sharp lyricism and a sophisticated conceptual resonance that dared to envision black metal through a revolutionary lens.

Rooted deeply in the soil that once drank deeply of royal and commoner blood alike during the tumultuous fervour of the French Revolution, SETH presents their latest opus - a black metal gospel according to the damned and the outcast. An intricate tapestry of shadows and defiance emerges from the darkness of history's recesses, swirling with the mists of apocalyptic visions and the ashes of fallen angels. La France des Maudits is a declaration of war, a call to arms for the souls still smouldering beneath the veneer of a world too long gripped in the cold hands of a moribund orthodoxy.

With the fractured bones of dead gods beneath their boots, SETHvoyages through the forbidden and the occult, tracing the lines of ancient prophecies and the decadent whispers of La Grande Catin Écarlate, the scarlet woman of the apocalypse. Their songs, from Paris des Maléfices to Insurrection, resonate with the echoes of a Paris besieged not by armies, but by souls clamouring for liberation - a city where each stone tells a tale of defiance, where every shadow harbours the spirit of revolt.

Lyrically, La France des Maudits is dripping with the wine of condemned men and the blood of saints, narrating the epic saga of rebellion from the ashes of a fallen Notre-Dame. This is not the Paris of light, but of enlightening darkness, where the façades of grandeur crumble to reveal the raw flesh of true humanity, writhing in its eternal struggle against divine oppression. Here, in the very heart of darkness, SETH finds its muse among the cacophony of broken chains and shattered dogmas.

Prepare to march beneath the banner unfurled by SETH, in the grand tradition of those unyielding souls who once stormed the Bastille and dared to dream of a world remade. La France des Maudits beckons - not to the gallows, but to glory.

His #1 hit single “Save Me” — a confessional, vulnerable expression of self-doubt— set the stage for his new season of life and took him to new heights including a Platinum certification from the RIAA on the heels of his 28-week reign at No. 1 on Billboard’s Emerging Artists chart. Most recently, “Save Me” earned Jelly his first ACM win for Musical Event of the year, and he is set to release new music following his four consecutive #1 singles: “Halfway To Hell,” “Save Me,” “Need A Favor” and “Son of A Sinner.”

Revered Rose Garden Marines To Hold Reunion In Nashville June 23 - 27

A special bond formed more than 50 years ago is a key reason for the biannual reunions over the last two decades of U.S. Marines who were stationed at a remote air base in Thailand during the Vietnam War. These heroic men—whose efforts contributed to ending the war—conducted covert operations under the code name “Rose Garden,” leading to their base being dubbed the “MCAS (Marine Corps Air Station) Rose Garden.”

The term “rose garden” is an ironic reference to the world-famous Lynn Anderson song, “I Beg Your Pardon (I Never Promised You a Rose Garden),” which led to one of the most iconic recruitment campaigns in the Marine Corp’s history, forever linking country music superstar Anderson with the Marines.

From the late ‘60s to early ‘70s, Anderson became the first country music female regularly singing on nationally syndicated TV (PBS’s The Lawrence Welk Show) and the first to perform on The Tonight Show. She was honored with every coveted music accolade available, including an American Music Award, two Academy of Country Music awards and one Country Music Association award, all as a female vocalist, as well as a Grammy. In 1974, Anderson became the unofficial ambassador for the U.S. Marine Corps when ‘We Don’t Promise You a Rose Garden’ was launched as the Corps’ official recruitment slogan. A special bond all these years later has remained between Anderson (who died of a heart attack in 2015 at age 67), her family and these Marines.

The Rose Garden Marines, with Anderson in attendance, held their first reunion in 2004 and have been doing so every other year since (though 2020 was canceled due to the pandemic). While in Nashville, Lisa Sutton—Anderson’s daughter, with former 27-time BMI songwriting award-winner Glenn Sutton (who produced Anderson’s signature tune and was a fixture on Music Row until his death in 2007)—will serve as their host.

More than 60 Marines who are planning to attend the Nashville reunion with their families will have the opportunity to visit The Lynn Anderson Rose Garden at Woodlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, created in 2018 and consisting of over 100 “Lynn Anderson” hybrid tea roses. They will also visit the Country Music Hall of Fame, enjoy time at Teddy's Tavern on 5th Ave., attend a “Nashville and the Civil War” presentation at the Devil Dog Den and will gather for the Rose Garden Marines Banquet (to be held at The Inn at Opryland Hotel).  Other events are taking a ride on the Music City Rollin’ Jamboree comedy bus tour + the Nashville Jubilee show at Troubadour Nashville.  On June 25th they will attend the live broadcast of the Grand Ole Opry, with a special tribute to Lynn Anderson.

“It has been fascinating listening and learning from these men,” says Sutton, who traveled to Thailand with several Rose Garden marines to visit the MCAS Rose Garden in 2019. “Traveling with them and representing Mom to them, has been an honor.”

Sutton adds that “There’s speculation on exactly when and how the base came to be called the Rose Garden, but my favorite story tells how a higher up landed in a chopper at the makeshift air base. As he came off the bird into the sweltering heat of the jungle and growled, ‘Where in the hell am I?’ A sharp-tongued private, never missing a beat, shouted, ‘Welcome to the Rose Garden, Sir!’ He’d apparently seen the recruitment campaigns when he enlisted and seized the opportunity to punctuate the irony.”

One of the Marines attending the reunion includes a NASA astronaut and two current Tennessee residents (David Morgan of Kingston and Ron Howington of Culleoka).  71-year-old Harold (“Harry”) Delamater, a former Beacon, New York, police officer, will be made available to the media for questions. Delamater has volunteered his time as the treasurer of the Rose Garden Marine reunions since their inception in 2004.

She has since collaborated with the likes of Tim McGraw and Randy Travis, played the UK’s Country to Country festival, and independently released her debut album All I’ve Ever Known in 2023, adding to her 300 million streams so far.

Another newcomer for BST Hyde Park audiences to discover is prolific artist-writer Zandi Holup. Reminiscent of folk heroes like Dolly Parton and Joni Mitchell, Holup made her debut last year with the song "Gas Station Flowers." Her raw brand of original folk country flourishes through unfiltered storytelling and her emotive vocals, supported by a growing grassroots following of listeners.

Also on the line-up and waiting to be discovered are Derry’s teenage singer songwriter Abbie Mac, British-Sudanese folk singer The Halfway Kid, and up-and-coming Nebraskan Evan Bartels.

Previously announced is the first ever UK performance for country star Riley Green, Nashville's most unpredictable hitmaker ERNEST, plus artist to watch, Ella Langley.

Headliner Morgan Wallen says, “Last fall was my first time in the UK and man, I loved it. I saw so much while I was there, and the people were incredible. To play where legendary artists like Pink Floyd and The Rolling Stones have played is a huge honour for me and my band, and we can’t wait to be back.”

One of today’s brightest stars in music, Morgan Wallen has been riding a non-stop wave of success with a string of 13 No. 1 hits. His latest single with Post Malone, “I Had Some Help,” was a major hit upon release, placing at No. 2 in the Official Charts in the UK, while simultaneously catapulting to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 all-genre charts, where it has remained for four consecutive weeks.

Wallen's rise to prominence has been nothing short of meteoric. With The New York Times proclaiming Wallen as “one of the biggest stars in pop, period,” he continues to reign as one of Country’s top touring artists, playing to over 2.4 million fans. Wallen will bring the show to BST Hyde Park for the first time this summer.

Earlier this year, Wallen released Abbey Road Sessions, commemorating the one-year anniversary of his record-setting album One Thing At A Time. Recorded in London in the iconic Studio Two at the world-renowned Abbey Road Studios on Dec. 5, 2023, the digital series includes five live recordings from One Thing At A Time, an unreleased fan-favorite, “Lies Lies Lies,” and a never-before-recorded cover of British rock band Nothing But Thieves’ “Graveyard Whistling.” Watch/listen to Abbey Road Sessions HERE.

Wallen's authentic storytelling and raw emotion struck a chord with fans, propelling him to the forefront of the country music scene. Last year saw him release his third studio album, One Thing At A Time, which reigned atop the all-genre Billboard 200 chart for 19 non-consecutive weeks, tying Garth Brooks’ Ropin’ the Wind with the most weeks at No. 1 for a Country album, and was the most-streamed album of the year on Spotify. The album recently returned to No. 1 on the Billboard Country Albums chart for its 51st non-consecutive week, the sole second-longest command in the chart’s 60- year history.

The lineup for American Express presents BST Hyde Park 2024 is set to be truly spectacular, with headliners SZA (June 29), Kings of Leon (June 30), Morgan Wallen (July 4), Andrea Bocelli (July 5), Robbie Williams (July 6), Shania Twain (July 7), Stevie Nicks (July 12), Kylie (July 13) and Stray Kids (July 14), with the full line up for each day to be announced, and All Things Orchestral on June 28.

Irish rocker Mark Daly is thrilled to announce his fall tour in support of renowned guitarist Richie Kotzen. The seven-week run will launch September 13 at The Coach House in San Juan Capistrano, CA and conclude November 2, in Dallas, TX. The run includes a three-night stand at Iridium in New York City, October 10-12, as well as City Winery performances in St. Louis, Boston, Atlanta, and Nashville. See dates below.

“We are absolutely delighted to be embarking on yet another tour of the U.S.A. this September, with the legendary Ritchie Kotzen and his band,” says Daly. “Myself and the band could not be more excited to hit the road with one of our rock idols, and are so grateful to be able to play these incredible venues and to be part of such a huge tour.”

The tour announcement follows the release of Mark’s latest single, “Pieces,” a captivating duet with one of his favorite singers, Emily Armstrong of the band Dead Sara. The track is a soul-stirring blend of poignant lyrics and mesmerizing melodies, and is the second track to be released from Daly’s forthcoming album Devil’s Arms, due for release August 9 via One Opportunity Records.

“If you haven’t heard our latest release – “Pieces” featuring Emily Armstrong of L.A. rock band Dead Sara – yet, and are a fan of grunge and alternative rock, then you are missing out on what could be one of your favorite songs this year,” Mark says of the single. “Working with Emily was a dream come true, and hearing her spine-tingling voice on this track for the first time blew my mind. It’s one of my favorite songs that I have written, and I am so grateful for the incredible reaction we have received for this song since its release.”

Mark’s next song and video release is “Better Off Alone” which will be available June 21 on all streaming and video platforms. “Out of all the songs on this album, I feel like 'Better Off Alone' will have the broadest appeal. The song touches on insecurities, imposter syndrome, and feeling like you’re messed up but knowing you can find your way out of the dark. So many of us have been there. I want people to know they’re not alone in those feelings and that they can find their way forward,” says Daly.

The fall tour in direct support of Richie Kotzen will be Daly’s second extended run of 2024, his first being a January block of dates alongside melodic rock supergroup Mr. Bigthat also included headlining shows of his own, including a marquee performance at the United States Military Academy at West Point, NY.

Hailing from Cork, Ireland, Daly is no stranger to American audiences, having toured extensively with acts including Candlebox, Queensrÿche and Geoff Tate. “I absolutely love everything about being on the road – meeting so many incredible people each night and getting lost in the music onstage, it’s pure magic,” says Daly.

Mark was first discovered while performing with his band The Voodoos in Spain. During one of their shows, music manager Brian Message (Radiohead, Nick Cave) was in the crowd and brought the band to London to record their first EP. An early highlight in Mark’s career was beating out more than 10,000 bands to earn a performance at the MTV EMA Awards with The Voodoos, launching their international touring career.

Mark Daly’s first venture as a solo artist hit No. 1 on the Scottish New Music Chart. Inspired by his son, Noah, the track “Your World” was written for an autism awareness charity.

WES ANDERSON TO RELEASE NEW SINGLE “HEADS ARE GONNA ROLL” JUNE 21ST

Maryland guitarist Wes Anderson will release his new single “Heads Are Gonna Roll” on June 21st. The single featuring Skindred vocalist Benji Webbe, with founding Alien Ant Farm bassist Tye Zamora, and drummer Donald Spangler (Ballyhoo!) is being released in collaboration with THC MUSIC (Taproot, American Head Charge, Simon Says). “Heads” will be followed up in August with another new single, featuring Taproot vocalist/guitarist Stephen Richards.

View the teaser for “Heads Are Gonna Roll” Below.

As former lead guitarist for Shanghai Superstars (2010 - 2012), Fiction 20 Down (2012 - 2015), Big Infinite (2015 - 2018 ), and now releasing music and performing as a solo artist, Wes Anderson has nearly 30 years as a touring and performing musician, building a reputation as a solo artist with collaborations with P-Nut (311), Jahred Gomes (Hed P.E.) and many more, spanning multiple genres and collaborators on each track, all of which start out with Wes and a guitar, and, through collaboration, take on a new life of their own.

Says Anderson, “'Heads Are Gonna Roll' is another amazing opportunity, where I was able to enlist Benji from Skindred on vocals, Tye Zamora of Alien Ant Farm on bass, and Donald Spangler from Ballyhoo! on drums. I wrote the music and produced the track, a hybrid of punk, metal, and reggae vibes, just what you'd expect from the artists involved. Skindred is one of my all-time favorite bands, so to be able to collaborate with Benji is literally a dream come true!”

“Heads” marks the first new Hard Rock track for Anderson since 2021’s “Out The Way”, which featured vocals from (hed)pe vocalist Jahred Gomes. In addition to Metal, Funk, and Punk-infused Rock bangers, Wes is also a producer and multi-instrumentalist cranking out recent and upcoming hip-hop collaborations with The Kaleidoscope Kid, Kosha Dillz, MC Bravado, ¡Mayday!, and the incomparable Madalen Duke.

With nearly 30,000 monthly listeners on Spotify and several independent single, EP, and LP releases charting on iTunes, national touring, major endorsements from companies like Dean Markley Stringsand Paul Reed Smith, and a Maryland Breakout Artist of the Year award, it is clear Wes has the talent, drive, and vision to take his music to the masses.

CABAL - RELEASE NEW SONG 'SORT SOMMER'

Danish deathcore maniacs CABAL are back with their new masterpiece 'Sort Sommer'. For the new song they teamed up the danish band FABRÄK and the song is written in danish.  It´s probably not the sound you have in mind when you think about CABAL but the guys show once again their boundless creativity and impress with new sounds.

Singer Andreas Bjulver about the new song:
"Sort Sommer is a very special track to us as it's done completely in our native tongue (Danish) and is a track made in collaboration with our good friends in FABRÄK and it sounds very different from what most people would expect from a CABAL track. It's a track that while exploring some heavy subjects is build around friends having fun and pushing boundaries for their respective genre in the studio."

He continues about the collabortaion with FABRÄK:
"So the collaboration happened since one of the singers used to be a bassplayer in a metal band that was on the same management as cabal so we've known each other from the scene since forever, also our bass player is their live guitarist and I live with the other singer, so even though our sounds are quite different this probably the band that we are the most intertwined with."

CABAL is one of the most brutal and promising heavy acts hailing from Copenhagen, Denmark. The band aims to create a visceral and doom-laden atmosphere throughout both their music and visual expression. The production is crystal clear, whilst the songwriting draws inspiration from everything from black and death metal to djent and hardcore.

Since the release of their debut album "Mark of Rot" in 2018, the young band has managed to make a name for themselves in both Denmark and the rest of the world by playing renowned festivals like Copenhell, Roskilde Festival, Euroblast Festival and Complexity Fest as well as touring in Europe, Japan and North America.

CABAL released the sophomore album "Drag Me Down" in April 2020 - a dark descent into a personal hell brought to life by crushing instrumentals, an oppressive atmosphere and dark personal lyrics delivered with relentless intensity, while still leaving room for experimentation and expansion of CABAL’s signature sound. Add to this guest appearances from metal titansTRIVIUM's Matt Heafy, rising metalcore stars POLARIS’ Jamie Hails and Denmark’s Blackgaze darlings MØL’s Kim Song Sternkopf and there is no doubt that CABAL is a band with friends in every corner of the metal scene.

Black Lava's Legend Grows on New Single

"Familiar yet undeniably creative, heavy and a clear statement in the darkness of music" - Metal Roos

"Practically forces you to headbang" - Metal Injection

"One of the more impressive debuts of recent years" - Distorted Sound

Like any good sorcerer, Black Lava cast a wicked array of spells. On their new album, this blackened band of Aussies swirl together howling old-school death metal, eerie melodic dissonance, technical wizardry and sludgy grooves into haunting fantasies. Today, they're releasing the third single off The Savage Winds to Wisdom, which is bound to stand as another crushing pillar in the band's growing legend.

Listen to "Dark Legacy" below

The Savage Winds to Wisdom comes out July 12, 2024 on Season of Mist.

Pre-order & Stream: https://orcd.co/blacklavathesavagewindstowisdom

Heading into The Savage Winds to Wisdom, Black Lava were hellbent on tapping deeper into the medieval witchcraft that they conjured on their debut album. "Our first time in the studio, we were dealing with all these frustrations that had boiled up during the pandemic", says Dan Presland, who's nimble pounding on the drum kit has helped shape Vipassi, A Million Dead Birds Laughing and Ne Obliviscaris. "That anger led to more of a bang-bang, punk rock approach. This time around, we took more time on the songwriting with the hope of conjuring a deeper and darker sense of atmosphere".

Black Lava got their wish. "Dark Legacy" leaves even the most ghoulish of metal heads shivering in its wake. Presland slithers between hissing cymbals as Hadal Maw guitarist Ben Boyle rips through the long black night with a sustained roar of reverb, like an angry giant that's been disturbed from its cave. "I have walked / I have seen", Rob Watkins waxes and wanes, so drunk on witches' brew that he's begging for death's cold embrace.

"There was greater care taken with the compositions on The Savage Winds to Wisdom, while still staying true to what we set out to do with Black Lava", Boyle says. "Create catchy, anthemic tunes that are heavy-but-energetic and give a sense of power to the listener".

While it's not short on dread-inducing ambience, "Dark Legacy" cuts all the way to the bone. After some stormy feedback, the song opens with a riff that comes cracking down like a bolt of lightning. When Watkins summons his death growl for a dance with the grim reaper, it cuts straight through the iciest of heart.

"We sharpened our tools on this album", Black Lava says. "The Savage Winds to Wisdom is a step up in all aspects. We went a little more dark and brutal and that's exactly where we want to take our music".

Not even the most stifling period in recent history could contain Black Lava. Despite being kept under strict lockdown during the pandemic, these Aussies were just stewing together, waiting to erupt. Now, only two years removed from their smoldering debut, the band are roaring back with even more mythical firepower on The Savage Winds to Wisdom.

“Our second album is a step up from the first in all aspects”, drummer Dan Presland says. “We took more time on the songwriting. The Savage Winds to Wisdom shows exactly where we want to take our music”.

Though possessed by an ancient and mysterious alchemy, Black Lava formed with the ease of a natural spring. Over the past decade, all four members have crossed paths around the various corners of Melbourne’s metal underground. On top of their progressive all-instrumental vision quests in Vipassi, Presland also drums alongside Hadal Maw guitarist Ben Boyle in the grinding, tech-death, underground curiosity A Million Dead Birds Laughing. But when the two got together to blow off steam amidst quarantine at Presland’s newly minted home studio, they were pleasantly surprised by the darkness that swept over these jam sessions.

“Both of us were dealing with a lot of pent-up frustrations”, Presland remembers. A few weeks before, his flight home from America (where he was supposed to track the drums for Ne Obliviscaris’ fourth album Exul) touched down hours before Australia closed its borders. “But that anger, coupled with our need to keep creating, led us in a different direction”.

Progressive metal was still a clear undercurrent, but the songs that came spewing out were unusually heavy. Death and black metal held more sway, though sludgy rock n’ roll also found its way into the mix. Such a peculiar range of influences required a vocalist with a very particular set of pipes. Fortunately, Rob Watkins jumped at the opportunity to reunite with Presland, who was the drummer in their thrash band Metalstorm. With Watkins’ Blackhelm bassist Tim Anderson added to the fold, Black Lava burst onto the scene in 2022 with their smoldering debut.

Soul Furnace more than lives up to those lofty expectations”, Distorted Sound hailed, “proving to not only be a late contender for album of the year, but also one of the more impressive debut albums of recent years”.

Black Lava wasted no time in keeping the juices flowing. The band was already hard at work on their second album while the first one was hot on the shelves. The Savage Winds to Wisdom stirs from the same cauldron of influences. Lead single “Ironclad Sarcophagus” echoes from the crypt with eerie countermelodies and a rhythm section that’s more bewitching than a spell book.

“I pictured this ancient wizard sending out evil vibes into the world in hopes of tricking someone into opening his coffin”, Watkins says. “When writing lyrics, I try and stay true to the spirit of metal. But really, I’m just channeling how the music makes me feel”.

If Soul Furnace was like stumbling upon the entrance to an ancient cave, then The Savage Winds to Wisdom is a fiery, full-blown descent into the belly of the beast. “Dark  Legacy” rings through the long black night with one sustained roar of a guitar roar, like an angry, one-eyed ogre. But while the songs came quickly, with Presland and Boyle carving out monstrous riffs and scaly grooves for Watkins to splatter his medieval fantasies, Black Lava took their time with this album. It's not until nearly three minutes into the opening number, after “Colour of Death” has boiled to a full headbang, that the first of its many horns-up roars is unleashed.

“There was greater care taken with compositions on The Savage Winds to Wisdom”, Boyle says. “There’s more depth and layering to the riffs and melodies. Calling on a more broad list of inspirations and tones, the album has a real sense of balance, a certain quality that will lend itself to repeat listens and attention to detail, while still staying true to what Black Lava set out to do; create heavy, yet energetic and catchy anthemic tunes that tell a story and emanate a sense of atmosphere and power for the listener.”

True to its name, The Savage Winds to Wisdom swirls within a deeper and darker sense of atmosphere. Whereas before their bang-bang approach to songwriting resembled something closer to a punk rock band, this time around, Black Lava concentrated more on atmosphere. “Unsheathing Nightmares” reveals its root source of terror in careful layers, mutating from raw black metal and razor-sharp tech-death into a rainy, ambient  hellscape. “That’s one of the songs that really excited me”, says Watkins, who calls upon a coven of witches by digging into the slimier depths of his baritone.

The title track is big enough to stand alone as its own self-contained world. Winding  over the course of seven eventful minutes, it’s the longest and perhaps most ambitious song in Black Lava’s musical geology. Blast beats pound like hail beneath waves of distortion that crash with the force of a monsoon. “The silents of fate” Watkins reckons, like a sea captain stranded among the wreckage.  “The thousand winds swirl the soul”. Swept up by a screeching solo from special guest Ben Baret (Ne Obliviscaris), the song whirls into an unstoppable force, a torrential finale that brings this album to a truly epic conclusion.

“We sharpened our tools with this album”, the band says. “We went a little more brutal and that sets the tone for where we’ll head in the future.

On The Savage Winds to Wisdom, Black Lava conduct a perfect storm.

ABOUT JUDAS PRIEST
Judas Priest, a powerhouse in the world of heavy metal has spent over 50 years crafting a legendary career. Emerging from Birmingham in 1969, their impact and influence in the genre remain unparalleled. The band originally solidified their place in music history with iconic albums like 'Sad Wings of Destiny' and 'Sin After Sin' known for metal anthems like 'Sinner' and 'Hell Bent for Leather' while pioneering the leather-and-studs image now synonymous with the metal culture.

The '80s marked their pinnacle with classic albums 'British Steel', 'Screaming for Vengeance', and 'Defenders of the Faith', generating timeless hits like 'Breaking the Law'. Despite lineup changes and various challenges, the band's resilience remained unwavering. In 2018 Rob Halford, Glenn Tipton, Richie Faulkner, Ian Hill and Scott Travis released 'Firepower' which soared as one of their most successful albums (alongside 'Invincible Shield') — backed by an extensive global tour.

Amid health setbacks and the pandemic, they persevered with a 50th-anniversary tour and a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction. Following a headlining performance at the 2023 PowerTrip Music Festival and the release of their 19th studio album 'Invincible Shield', Judas Priest's unwavering dedication to spreading their heavy metal legacy continues, promising to rock on into 2024 and beyond.

Trench Share "DIVIDED BETWEEN NEW SKIN" Video

Calgary's hardest band TRENCH   Jay Breen (vocals); Tony Chan (bass); Cole Young (guitar/electronics); and Tommy Chan (drums) — are back with a brand new banger. The band has shared the video for "DIVIDED BETWEEN NEW SKIN." Watch it Below

It's actually three singles in one: "DIVIDED EXISTENCE," "BETWEEN INVERTED WORLDS," and "NEW SKIN PROTOCOL."

Yes, it's a rager. Yes, it will tear your head clean off your neck with its ferociousness, while the animated video will capture your attention and never let it go. Essentially, Trench and "DIVIDED BETWEEN NEW SKIN" are the total hard rock package.

"The first track 'Divided Existence' is entirely electronic and was composed by Cole Young," says vocalist Jay Breen. "The song was designed to ease you in and take you on a journey leading into the first track. The song 'Between Inverted Worlds' tackles the emotions of always being between self doubt and self fulfillment. The track is about facing your defeat and self doubt. 'New Skin Protocol' is metaphorically about the reinvention of yourself though facing these emotions."

He continues, "Musically, we have progressively gotten heavier. The electronics have gotten more experimental and have become a bigger part of the band. We challenged ourselves musically and technically and left it all on the table."

About the video, Breen furthers, "'Divided Between New Skin' represents the struggle between being stuck between self deprecation and self-fulfillment. The animation takes you through the story of retrieving an intergalactic soldier who mysteriously perished on their quest. After finding the soldier, they are restored and recreated into a new and improved being through a series of protocols. The story may continue one day…"

ABOUT TRENCH:
In a world where conformity reigns supreme, Trench stand defiant and unapologetic, daring to carve their own path through the music scene. With their unforgettably distinct and refreshing approach to metal music, they've crafted a sound that's as bold as it is brooding, refusing to adhere to anyone's expectations but their own. Their journey began in 2017, instantly marking Trench as a force to be reckoned with. After exploring their sound in the early days, they weren’t content to rest on their laurels, revealing the boundaries they were willing to push with the release of The Gift of Guilt in 2019, diving deep into synthetic post-metal landscapes while confronting the harsh realities of life and loss head-on.

Along the way, Trench's ferocious live performances and unyielding determination caught worldwide attention, earning them spots on stages alongside heavyweights like Misery Signals, Comeback Kid, Integrity, and Harm’s Way. Their rapid evolution didn't go unnoticed either; the impact of their debut LP Blossom in 2020 (with Jesse Zaraska of Misery Signals accompanying them on "Hellbent Gate") led to their inevitable record deal with New Damage Records. Their fourth official release in 2022, Encased in Chrome, propelled Trench to new heights, sharing the stage with modern-day legends Knocked Loose. It was also featured on Cult of Luna's Top 10 List in 2023. Shortly after, Trench was invited to play overseas at Beyond The Redshift Festival in London, alongside iconic death metal band Napalm Death.
