Eihwar Reveal Hidden World on New Single

The enfants terribles of Season of Mist’s roster, Eihwar, are releasing a new single today. Known for their explosive fusion of Nordic folk and electro-industrial chaos, the clan continues to defy the solemnity of most pagan acts on “Hugrheim” with a style that is wild, cartoonish, and fiercely ritualistic.

As Eihwar themselves proclaim:

“Over the past few years, our souls have gradually taken over the bodies of two human musicians. Through incarnation, we lost much of our memories. All that remains are images, emotions, and fragments from our previous existence, mixed in with the thoughts and memories of our human hosts. In this new song, we evoke the memories that gradually come back to us: memories of Hugrheim, the tenth world of Yggdrasil, hidden and unknown to men. This world is shaped by the Hugr, the spirit. In this realm dwell the invisible forces of the soul and consciousness. When our vessels perish here and our incarnation ends, we will return to Hugrheim. Still, we hope to remain here as long as possible this time, because nowadays the beer is fucking good, the rockstar life is pretty damn cool, and dental anesthesia actually exists.”

Following a summer of electrifying festival appearances at Wacken Open Air, Resurrection Fest and Midgardsblot, as well as dates opening for The Hu, with “Hugrheim”, Eihwar present a song that both deepens their mythos and heightens their trance-driven energy.

The word “Hugrheim” comes from Old Norse roots. It can be understood as the realm of spirit, of memory, of consciousness. In the lore woven by Eihwar, their souls appear as reincarnated essences inhabiting human vessels, recalling fragments of their former existence. The song channels these recollections through warrior cries, horns, ritual percussion and machine-driven pulse, aligning Asrunn and Mark with pagan folk lineage while advancing into their own shamanic and celebratory, dance-driven terrain.

To celebrate “Hugrheim”, Eihwar are opening their new Traveling Merchant Webshop. This shop currently includes four t-shirt designs, one of which was only previously available at their concerts. It also holds the “Eihwar bindrune” medallion, which the duo describe as the “jewelry of the clan” - a symbolic extension of their ritual universe.

Many bands have explored the Pagan & Norse worlds over the last 15 years seeking atmospheric, acoustic and ritual sounds with great seriousness. This is not the path EIHWAR chose.

Although the musicians of Eihwar are virtuosos in their acoustic traditional instruments, their goal is to bring some fun… and as much chaos as possible during their concerts, provoking the craziest trance on dancefloors. The Quality of Mercury takes us to 'Heaven's Gate', teasing sophomore album 'The Voyager'

Alt-rock artist The Quality of Mercury presents his latest high-paced trip with 'Heaven's Gate', the latest gem revealed from his forthcoming sophomore album 'The Voyager'. Nine years after releasing his debut 'Transmission' album, he is back with new music that is both anthemic and accessible, cinematic and catchy - a perfect blend of muscle and melody.

'Heaven's Gate' shines with an unexpected lift balancing the expansive feel of space-rock with vibrant pop elements. A story about longing to transcend into enlightenment, the upbeat pulse gives it a sense of momentum, like you’re cruising through the stars with the windows down.

The Quality of Mercury is Pennsylvania-based artist Jeremiah Rouse, who handles everything from writing and performing to engineering. This groovesome, graceful and grand music with space-rock atmospherics speaks to our deep need for connection, both human and spiritual. His ongoing search for meaning is woven into songs that range from bursts of excitement to moments of quiet reflection.

"'Heaven’s Gate' is inspired by the real-life cult of the same name, but it’s not a song about tragedy; it’s a song about longing. I saw myself in their story: the endless search for something beyond this world, the gaze fixed on the stars, waiting for a sign, a savior, an escape," says Jeremiah Rouse.

"I’ve spent so much of my life looking up, hoping for divine intervention, for something greater to lift me out of the weight of this world. Whether that’s God, aliens, or something unnamed, 'Heaven’s Gate' is about the hope that there is something out there. Something bigger, kinder, more meaningful than what we know here on Earth. 'The Voyager' is an adventurous journey, each track offering a different terrain of feeling: exhilaration, anxiety, longing, and introspection. Lead track 'Ganymede' is an upbeat cinematic journey that reflects the album’s overarching themes of distance, discovery, and transformation, this song is about finding love and losing it, fulfilling Rouse's mission of exploring emotion and texture across vast sonic terrain.

Rouse's recorded works serve as a bridge to his audience —a suitably distant medium, given his songs about receiving transmissions emanating from the other side of the universe and epic, intergalactic voyages. For all its otherworldly sound and association with vastness and space, the intensity and intellect, depth and profound insight found here is a journey into the artist’s own inner space.

Influenced by such iconic bands as Hum, Failure, Starflyer 59, and Sunny Day Real Estate, The Quality of Mercury creates a vast, immersive world, each track built as a sonic landscape - grand in scope yet meticulously detailed. The goal is simple but ambitious: to create music that reveals something new with every listen. Tiny flourishes, subtle swells, and sound elements crossing the stereo field are placed with obsessive precision, often blooming unexpectedly or popping out at just the right moment. With a background in film production and a lifelong love of sci-fi cinema, Jeremiah approaches songwriting with a distinctly visual mindset. That cinematic sensibility, combined with a meticulous approach to sound design, results in music that’s as emotionally resonant as it is sonically rich.

Excide Share Visualizer for New Single "Pariah"

EXCIDE — Tyler Washington, Gill Gonzalez, Gage Lanza, Caleb Hogue, and Jacob Paris — recently announced their second album Bastard Hymns. It arrives November 28 via SharpTone Records. Pre-order it here.

Today, the band has issued the visualizer for new single "Pariah." Watch it below.

Washington shares, "Lyrically, 'Pariah' is sort of an inward look back to when I was growing up. Not ever really fitting in anywhere or with anyone, wrangling with the religion and politics of your own family and friends, and sort of losing hope at a point that you’ll ever find where you're supposed to be."

He continues, "The song itself was such an unexpected outcome. Originally, we wrote the big chorus hook first, sort of aiming to nail down a 'radio rock' song. After ditching the idea of what it SHOULD be, we came back to the idea (with Austin Coupe) and just started piecing it together naturally. That lead to so many cool things, like the weirdly-timed two-step riff, lots of acoustic guitar layers, and my favorite being the big Soundgarden-esque bridge section that features my favorite vocal take to date."

He finishes, "I think it's fitting the way this song stands on its own: Matching the vibe of the lyrics and hopefully being a welcome little sonic detour."

Bastard Hymns is the logical next step from the band's debut album, Deliberate Revolver. "Having felt like we accomplished what we came to do on the first record, there were no guidelines or barriers around where we were to go next. This opened up so many avenues for our creativity and exploration. We were lucky enough to begin working with SharpTone the following year, which put the band back in gear and opened up new possibilities for the path forward."

Sonically, the band was inspired by the grooves and energy of late '90s post-hardcore bands such as Cast Iron Hike and Snapcase, while siphoning melody and textural elements much the same as Quicksand and Cave In. The band was not afraid to shift gears a bit and take influence from the likes of Queens of the Stone Age, Soundgarden, and Failure, which, Excide admit, " allowed us to really push the sonic needle into uncharted territory, even further accentuated by Austin Coupe's co-writing and production."

Overall, the album is a "fuzzy, rocky, groovy, angry record. Seeped in the woes of growing up in a hillbilly hellscape, and living to tell the tale. The result was Bastard Hymns."

During 2020, Excide initially introduced a boundary-breaking signature style gestated across projects such as Two of a Kind and Actualize/Radiation Reel. Two years later, momentum picked up on the heels of their independent full-length debut, Deliberate Revolver, which incited the applause of Brooklyn Vegan, Revolver, and more. They caught the attention of Sharptone Records and inked a deal with the label. In 2024, their next era ramped up in earnest with the two-pack Humdinger, including "Dis(re)member" and "All Down (But 9)." Right away, Stereogum raved, "Both of its tracks go hard," and NO ECHO marveled at how "the band's dynamic blend of '90s-flavored hardcore and propulsive post-hardcore rhythms has shined brightly on each of their releases."

Silly Goose Are "Split" With New Video

Buzzy rap x rock news-and-noisemakers Silly Goose are back with an album full of hard rock party jams. As is always the case with the Goose, they don't simply crash the party. They take over the party.

Today, Silly Goose shared the video for new single "Split." Watch it below.

The song is a bit of a sonic departure for the Goose, who are known for their hands-in-the-air, good-time-all-the-time anthems. Of course it features their signature grooves and rap x rock style, but with a bit more melancholic and moodily melodic vibe, thus showing off the band's dynamics and unexpected vulnerability.

"It's one of the outliers, and it showcases a different side of what we're capable of," singer Jackson Foster states. "The raps are more laidback and low-key, and the hook is sing-y. It's a song about not being ready to move on."

Silly Goose are touring through 2025, supporting Landmvrks this fall, along with headline dates in December. The band will headline shows in Europe in November, and support Hot Milk on select dates.

STELLAR CIRCUITS REVEAL 2ND SINGLE, 'CORRIDOR'

Downswing Drop "Too Little Too Late" (Feat. Chris Roetter)

"At its core, 'Too Little Too Late' is about being in a dark place and realizing that help or comfort often arrives only after the damage is done," the band shares. "It's about wrestling with that helpless feeling of something constantly pulling you down, making you feel less like yourself every day."

Since 2016, Downswing have steadily evolved into a powerhouse of modern metal and groove. The group's current incarnation emphasizes big choruses, bigger breakdowns, atmosphere, and emotion. Guilt Trip Sign to Roadrunner + Share Video for New Single "Burn"

The band — Jay Valentine [vocals], Jak Maden [guitar], Sam Baker[guitar], Tom Aimson [drums], and Lily Kilcoyne [bass]— shares the video for "BURN," its debut single for the label. And it's quite a ripper than captures the riff-roaring essence of classic thrash with a thoroughly modern and stadium-sized edge.

Maden offers a deeper insight into the song, saying, "Sonically, it's a metal song with hardcore influences sprinkled in. To us, it felt a little bit like old Machine Head. It's definitely an anthem. As soon as we finished it, I knew it needed a simple repeated line until the drop and 'wall of death' section. We won't even need to tell the crowd what to do."

Guilt Trip will spend the fall touring alongside Kublai Khan and will appear at Louder Than Life in Louisville on September 18 and at New England Metal and Hardcore Fest on September 20.

Varials Return With Video for New Single "I'll Find the Dark" + It Slays

Philadelphia's VARIALS — Skyler Conder, vocals; Shane Lyons, guitar; Mike Foley, bass; Sean Rauchut, drums — have erected a massive, impenetrable, and intimidating wall of sound with "I'll Find the Dark," their first new song since 2022.

It's also the first track to feature formidable new frontman Conder, who shares that the song is about "ending it all abruptly."

Squalling feedback, deathcore growls that sound as though they originated in the deepest recesses of hell, and violent, and riffs that sound like detonations are the hallmarks of "I'll Find the Dark." It's heavier than a slab of granite and a welcome return for a revamped and revitalized Varials.

"'I'll Find the Dark' lyrically tries to captivate the overall theme of being consumed by pain throughout existence," says Conder. "The idea was for the instruments to be just as aggressive as the vocals and lyrics of the song itself. The track tries to express the emotional distress of feeling lost within yourself, being terrified of existence and living, as well as trying to overcome some sense of grief and heartache."

Shane Lyon furthers, "The idea was to build a wall of sound that suffocates the listener."

Suffocation has never sounded so good.

Alt-rock outfit Sword Tongue receives Grammy nomination for 'Bonfire In The Tempest' album

Oakland-based alternative rock / darkwave trio Sword Tongue has received a Grammy nomination for their explosive 'Bonfire In The Tempest' EP, marking a significant milestone for the trio, placing them in a competitive field alongside some of the biggest names in music today. Such recognition is also a powerful testament to their unique sound and resonance with their growing fanbase.

Their fourth EP to date, 'Bonfire In The Tempest' was birthed in an age of cultural upheaval. Bursting with raw emotion, this release is tempered by sophisticated production, launching the band into uncharted territory.

This EP is a love letter to the music we adored in the 90s. Long delays, lush chorus sounds, deep flanges and modulations – a guitar tone chaser’s dream, married with deep distorted growling bass lines, hard driven drums and pulsing, electronic dance beats provide the texture over which soaring female vocals triumph. At times a whisper, and other times a roar, each song crafted in the crucible of these modern, unprecedented times.

Debuting in 2020 during the pandemic, Sword Tongue creates dark music for dark times, casting a shadow of hope in the twilight. Formed by husband-and-wife duo Gaetano Maleki and Jennifer Wilde, the project is their love language and the culmination of their life’s work as musicians. Wilde, a classically trained vocalist who has performed with the Oakland Symphony Chorus, has been a guest vocalist and lyricist for seminal shoegaze band Love Spirals Downwards. Maleki brings an intensity from his background in heavy music, infusing his shimmering guitar soundscapes with sonic weight.

The pair were then joined by renowned producer and drummer Dan Milligan, whose driving contribution has infused the music with more depth, drive and dimension. Since signing to Metal Blade in 2017, the Igorrr name has expanded from one man's pseudonym to become a full group identity, but Gautier remains the project's guiding light and mastermind, so he's the best man to ask to describe the indescribable. "This album is definitely darker than its predecessors, it has such a very weighty and solemn vibe that has never been reached before in Igorrr," explains Gautier. "The fact that I recorded a real choir in a church helped this a lot, but above all there has been very long and meticulous work on the sound and the choice of instruments, and deep experimental research to create a unique sound design. Of course, because it's an Igorrr album, there are some more colorful tracks, like 'Blastbeat Falafel,' 'ADHD...' They contrast very much with the ambient heaviness. I need tracks like these on an album, it helps to really get through it fully focused, like a shot of limoncello before the next meal."

With an urge to continually take Igorrr's multifaceted and challenging sound further forward with each release, Gautier has spent a lot of time cultivating multiple new modes and methods of working since 2020's breathtaking, critically acclaimed opus Spirituality And Distortion — which even reached No. 12 on the official German album chart. Gautier has always made clear that Igorrr is as much about the influence of Bach and Chopin as it is about Cannibal Corpse, Aphex Twin, and Meshuggah, but the source of specific stimuli gets harder to ascertain as the process is refined. "It's always difficult for me to know from where the inspiration comes," he muses. "Music is an expression of life, and I would say everything, even what seems the most insignificant thing, can be a source of inspiration. I would say there hasn’t been one event or one experience that has lead me on a creative process, it's more like a cumulation of everything. I love making music, my brain processes music all the time. You cannot imagine the amount of albums and concertos I create during my sleep. The challenge is more how to sort these ideas to keep the ones with the best potential, the ones that I won't get bored of, the ones that I really Love — with a big letter L."

Fitzsimon and Brogan (FaB) team up with ELO's Martin Smith on 'Flowers at Her Door' single

London-based indie rock / power-pop duo Fitzsimon and Brogan (FaB) are back with their new single 'Flowers At Her Door', released through Booster Music WTPL France. In a music landscape starved for originality, a UK duo is proving that sometimes the freshest sounds are born from old-school inspiration.

FaB is made up of songwriter Neil Fitzsimon and vocalist Bee Brogan, both members of the Sony-licensed band Pretty Blue Gun, who went on to form the London-based songwriting-production partnership FaB Productions and recorded their 'Big Blue World' album at Abbey Road's Studio Two, where The Beatles recorded so many great songs.

FaB has crafted a project that's both emotive and lighthearted, successfully bridging the spirit of '60s and '70s songwriting with a truly new feel. Recorded at FaB Productions, this single was co-produced, mixed and mastered by Martin Smith (Electric Light Orchestra, Shakin' Stevens) at Garage Studios in London. The music and lyrics for 'Flowers at Her Door' are written by Fitzsimon, with Brogan handling vocals, keyboards, drums and engineering.

'Flowers At Her Door' is a sonic and lyrical achievement, calling to mind Debbie Harry with the deep tone of German singer-songwriter Nico. FaB has captured the attention of legends, with David Bowie's drummer Woody Woodmansey praising their ability to stand out from the crowd and Elvis Costello's Pete Thomas saying the avant-garde would be proud.

"This song was inspired by the Ridley Scott film "The Duellists", which depicts the Napoleonic wars and that particular film portrayed decadence, glamour and cruelty in equal measure. We’re trying to achieve the standard of the songwriting of the 1960s/1970s for a modern-day audience," says Neil Fitzsimon.

"My style of writing is old-school, with namely a guitar and a blank page. I give myself 45 minutes to work on a new song and if nothing comes, I’ll put the guitar down and go back to it the following day. It’s amazing how things that seemed insurmountable can then become vividly clear 24 hours later."

This new single follows FaB's latest album 'This Wicked Pantomime', which was co-produced by Pat Collier (Katrina and the Waves, Primal Scream, Maximo Park) at Perry Vale Studios, London and involved dummer Woody Woodmansey (David Bowie Spider's from Mars), as well as Elvis Costello drummer Pete Thomas.

Prior to that, FaB released four well-received albums, including 'Venus in Reverse' (2011), 'His Latest Squeeze' (2015), 'Big Blue World' (2018) and 'The Girl Who Shouted Love at the Heart of the World' (2019), which involved members of The Art of Noise, Eric Clapton bass player Dave Bronze, Moody Blues' Tobias Boshell and Pip Williams (Walker Brothers).

Having toured nationally across the UK and with song placements in Film and TV, they also wrote the musical 'Jack Dagger', which was showcased at the Greenwich Theatre, London for the Musical Futures Award, and also at the Bridewell and the Royal College of Music in London. With chart success in France, Belgium, and South Africa—and a song featured in a U.S. sci-fi film—the band is making waves on every front.

Stoned Jesus Premiere Mind-Melting 'Songs to Sun'

While they've blazed beyond the hot box of stoner metal, after 16 years, Stoned Jesus are still expanding their horizons. This week, the heavy progressive rockers are officially embarking on a three-album journey that will take them all the way to the sun, moon and back. Though created during a dark period of instability, the trilogy's stunning opener, Songs to Sun, is guided by a burning passion for innovation that frontman Igor Sydorenko shares with his new bandmates.

Songs to Sun is the first album in a forthcoming trilogy that once complete, will stand as the pinnacle of what's been a decades-long trip for Stoned Jesus. While picking up where Father Light left off, Sydorenko and his new mates still nod to Seven Thunders Roar and The Harvest along the way. But by merging metal's fiery intensity with mind-melting grooves, vintage prog and their catchiest choruses yet, they bring the many distinct phases of Stoned Jesus to a bright, burning head.

BLACKBRAID Kicks Off North American Headlining Tour

Indigenous solo black metal project BLACKBRAID is now embarking on its first ever North American headliner, in which he will be supported by Lamp of Murmuur and Dödsrit, with Gudsforladt replacing LoM as support for two Canadian dates. The trek will kick off today, September 18, in San Diego, CA and will make its way around the U.S. + Canada until the final stop on October 11 in Los Angeles, CA. Many dates have already sold out, have had venue upgrades due to demand, or are close to selling out!

Blackbraid will then be headlining the UK and Ireland from April 9 - 14, 2026, in which he will be supported by WINTERFYLLETH + NOCTEM. The full itinerary can be found below while tickets are available HERE.

Swedish metal powerhouse THE HALO EFFECT return with their electrifying new single – a blistering take on WASP’s 1984 anthem 'I Wanna Be Somebody'. The track, handpicked by guitar hero Jesper Strömblad, marks the band’s third cover version and continues their celebration of iconic heavy metal influences.

Alongside the single, the band proudly announce that these reinterpretations will culminate in a brand-new EP, We Are Shadows, set for release on November 21.
The new single is accompanied by a striking visualizer, further amplifying the raw energy of the track.

Jesper Strömblad reflects on the choice of song: “WASP’s aggressive sound and eccentric stage presence has always been fun. The shock of songs like ‘I Fuck Like a Beast’ and fun anthems like ‘I Wanna Be Somebody,’ and ‘L.O.V.E. Machine,’ are powerful and heavy. Progressive black metal duo OBSIDIAN TONGUE is now kicking off a West Coast U.S. headliner! The trek starts in Seattle, WA today, September 18 and will dominate 10 cities until the final stop in Spring Valley, CA on September 27. The tour will celebrate the release of OBSIDIAN TONGUE's latest studio album, 'Eclipsing Worlds of Scorn." The full itinerary can be found below!
