That's right, earthlings: Darkspace are gearing up for their long-awaited return. It's been almost a decade since their last transmission. But next year, they'll emerge from the void with Dark Space -II.

This new recording loosely deviates from the course set by Darkspace on their previous four albums. New member Yhs leads Wroth and Zharaal to experiment with different sonic textures. But while the mysterious trio still venture into uncharted aural territories, Dark Space -II never leaves their familiar realm of psychedelic, atmospheric, spatial black metal.

DARKSPACE was founded by Wroth, Zorgh and Zhaaral in 1999 in Berne (Switzerland).

In two decades, four albums and an EP were released: Dark Space -I to Dark Space III I. The band rarely appeared live.

In 2019 Zorgh quit while the band was awarded the Music Prize of the Canton of Berne for the creation of their soundscapes and their atmospheric performances.

In 2022 Yhs joined Wroth and Zhaaral to complete the three again.

ICYMI: Folterkammer recently announced their new union with Century Media Records and unveiled a BDSM inspired new single, "Das Peitschengedicht," which celebrates the female empowerment of whip-wielding Femdoms. The powerful track can be found along with a lyric video, which was created by Folterkammer drummer and video director Brendan McGowan, below.

The single is taken from the band's forthcoming album, which serves as a counterpart to their 2020 debut, 'Die Lederpredigt.' The new record is another searing blend of modern black metal and classical music elements, lending to its Avant Garde sound. The music itself is elevated by frontwoman and vocalist Andromeda Anarchia's dynamic vocal work as she juxtaposes her classical training as an opera singer with her hellfire screams, summoning a maelstrom of ethereal chaos. Speaking on the empowering themes of the "Das Peitschengedicht" and forthcoming record, Andromeda Anarchia eloquently explains, "This song is our kinky ode to the whip as a torture instrument, and a celebratory hymn to the practices of BDSM, particularly, Femdom. The whip, a symbol of domination, pain and humiliation, is described here not only as playful and kinky, but as a poetic enactment of pain through the depiction of female ferocity on a submissive man, whose back the Domme uses like a canvas.

"It is about this sensual overdrive of stimulation and literally describes the lustful use of a whip as a kind of 'calligraphy brush' to write a poem. The dominatrix verbally humiliates her subject while blood runs down his spine; his blood is the ink with which she paints and signs her artwork of pain and ecstasy.

"The song bridges both musically and thematically the old album (regarding a vicious, violent, and abusive 'Bad Domme' goddess) and the new one (featuring a badass, erotic 'Good Domme'). This opens a new chapter with a change defined not only by the expanded instrumentation and new songwriting styles, but also by the way the described dominant female protagonist treats her subordinates and has refined her skills in humiliation games. It's no longer about being a vicious, exploitative deity, but about being a sensual, naughty, self-confident, kinky lady who knows exactly what she wants, who celebrates female power, who sometimes flirts and cleverly provokes with historical and mythological anecdotes, and even more with her charm and sass.

"This bridging of the debut album and the new album is also reflected in the aesthetics of the video. In the words of our drummer and music video director Brendan McGowan: 'The 'Das Peitschengedicht' video sets the dominating lyrics to footage from the 1922 classic 'Haxan' - whose famous images of devils and demons often overshadow the wicked women within it and their blasphemous behavior.'"

Atoll Announce New Album 'Inhuman Implants' Out February 23 via Unique Leader Records

Extreme metal quintet Atoll has today announced their new upcoming album 'Inhuman Implants' set for release on February 23 (via Unique Leader Records). In celebration of the announcement, the band have unleashed their punishingly heavy lead single and the accompanying music video for "Berdella of Blood" taken from the forthcoming full-length. Speaking about the track, Atoll vocalist Wade Taylor commented:

"This visceral track is an auditory whirlwind, encapsulating the sheer brutality and raw intensity akin to the infamy of the Kansas City butcher, Robert Berdella. With ravaging blasts, face-smashing slams, and lacerating screams that echo the gruesome acts, "Berdella of Blood" is about the Kansas City Butcher Robert Berdella and his escapades of violence as he meticulously documented the torture of his victims for extended periods of time."

Emerging from the scorched desert wasteland in 2014, the Phoenix, Arizona-based death metal quintet, Atoll, has been aggressively serving up their unique style for nearly the last decade. Brilliantly blending groove-based slamming brutal death with more traditional death metal elements, grind, and at times even a sprinkle of ‘core, funk, and thrash. Their composition favors a "riff piling" approach rather than the more common and simplistic verse-chorus-verse arrangement, giving the music something of a progressive element with very few repeated riffs, and less predictable movements. Atoll has remained a staple in the metal fest scene, and you may have caught them live playing with the likes of Skinless, Gorgasm, Ingested, and Aborted. Their love of the tour bus life and an importance placed on always having the highest quality, high-energy performances have gained them a reputation for being a consistent, unrelenting live force.

April 2014 birthed this bulbous abomination that has grown into the mighty Atoll when they conspired to create percussive, not frills, chugging brutality. The band immediately shot up in the local AZ scene and very quickly began to expand their live performances throughout the southwest United States, building up momentum for their 2016 debut album, and straight up slammer, The Gathering Swarm. Produced by the late Griffin “The Father” Kolinski (Knights Of The Abyss) and Jamie King (Between The Buried And Me) the album was quickly picked up and released by Amputated Vein subsidiary, Ghastly Music. 

The initial success of their debut album caught the eye of Gorehouse Productions who went on to release the 2017 sophomore album, Fallout Frenzy. The vocals on this album show significant expanse in dynamic range, incorporating highs, mids, and some of the most nasty gutterals you’ll ever hear. Lyrically Fallout Frenzy expanded further on the origins of the band name, embracing themes of the atom bomb tests of Bikini Atoll in the 1950’s, and the subsequent radioactive fallout and mutations that occurred after the bombings. 

The critically acclaimed album, Zoopocalypse is released in 2019 through Gorehouse Productions. This album is in-your-face aggression from front to back. A departure from the more rudimentary slams of their earlier works, Zoo implements more technicality, more tremolo and scaling, mathier leads, and a generally more advanced death metal sound that would represent the direction of the band moving forward. The mix/master was completed by Miguel Tereso of Demigod Recordings (Analepsy, Organectomy), and features a guest vocal spot from Matti Way (Disgorge, Abominable Putridity, Pathology)

During the global limbo of lockdown Atoll was able to strike a deal with the legendary Unique Leader Records, and in 2022 put out the Prepuce EP. The mini-release serves as a taster of things to come as Atoll has completed the production of two upcoming full-length albums, scheduled to drop through Unique Leader in 2023 and 2024. This two-part release will be the most technically ambitious to date. Keep your eyes peeled on the tour front, and ears open because, like an atomic tsunami, Atoll is primed to decimate the masses.

VIPASSI Release New Single w/ Full-Band Playthrough

VIPASSI laid the groundwork for their  mind-bending instrumental passages back in 2017, when they debuted Śūnyatā. The Australian  quartet built on that solidly progressive foundation last month with the release of "Phainesthai", the first single and keystone of their new album Lightless. 

Today, the band are handing us another key. "Labyrinthine Hex" weaves a maze of intricate melodies and rhythmic complexities into a symphony of emotions.

The accompanying studio playthrough reveals not only the technical virtuosity of each member but also their telepathic chemistry. Watching the way they play off each other, it's no wonder that Vipassi can spin epic stories without uttering a word.

In Buddhist tradition, VIPASSI is the twenty-second of the twenty-eight Buddhas. Etymologically, the name has its roots in clear vision – a being of extreme contemplation. The band of the same name is a world-spnning instrumental extreme metal band from the lands of Australia, France and the UK.

With members of acts such as Ne Obliviscaris, Black Lava, Hadal Maw & Virvum, their work on the 2017 debut album ‘Sunyata’, which has a loose signification of Emptiness or Void, set the grounds for a technically impressive and fully instrumental exploration of sonic textures in what can best be described as – a divine experience reaching the depths of the human soul.

Originally made as a project between Daniel Presland (Drums) and Ben Boyle (Guitars) as far back as 2007 to explore new concepts and sounds not currently engaged by their projects at the time, the band has since then grown and expanded to an international connection of like-minded musicians and virtuosos with Arran McSporran (Fretless Bass) and Benjamin Baret (Guitars).

SPREAD EAGLE'S RAY WEST LAUNCHES NEW BAND, SUPAFLY, WITH NEW SINGLE AND FORTHCOMING FULL-LENGTH DEBUT

As one of the more dynamic vocalists of the early ‘90s, NYC native Ray West’s defiant screams and guttural wails defined a generation of headbangers. The leader of Spread Eagle, West aided in the creation of such metal anthems such as “Switchblade Serenade” and “Devil’s Road.” And now, with his collaborator/bassist/producer, Miguel Gonzalez, by his side, West has created his most personal music and songwriting yet. Brimming with heavy urban power grooves, SupaFly represents an evolution for West. SupaFly’s the Vibe is due out on March 8 via Deko Entertainment (ADA/Warner Music Group) and features revisited and remastered versions of tracks previously recorded, as well as new compositions.

KILL THE THRILL are blessed with a uniquely elusive vision. The French duo have been dreaming up an abrasive-but-hypnotic blend of industrial rock, post-punk and dark wave. Heck, the title track off their upcoming fifth album, Autophagie, arrived with a surreal fever dream of a video that could give David Lynch nightmares. 

Today, Kill the Thrill are releasing yet another cinematic video for their new single.

At nearly 10 minutes, "Capitan" is an epic, albeit patient voyage. The video's opening shot appears slowly out of the darkness, like the camera is wiping sleep from its eye. Strings buzz like flies as the riff crests into an industrial-sized groove behind Nicolas Dick's weathered croon.

A sea of disjointed images floods the screen: sunken statues, blooming flora, hummingbirds suspended in mid-flight. Somehow, these surreal visions come together, gravitating around the song's steadily roving drumbeat, as if assembled by their own dream logic. Before the final curtain, a synth-streaked climax roars with all the terror and wonder of life itself.

Here's what Dick and bassist Marylin Tognolli have to say about their new single:

"'Capitan' is an inhabited vessel, engulfed by reality, on its way to its own shipwreck. It is not a shipwreck conceived as divine punishment, but as an almost beneficent fate for what finds no place in the company of men. The cycle swallows everything and spits it out, the simulacra, the organic and the inert. The clip was edited as a narrative, with each image forming part of the allegory. An allegory of earthly and temporary paradises".

KILL THE THRILL was formed in 1989 and is composed of Nicolas Dick on vocals, guitar and lap-steel, Marylin Tognolli on bass for its founding members. Stemming from the French noisy wave of the early 90's, their music is often described as dark, abrasive and hypnotic, full of epic moments, with a dense and rich sound mixing elements of industrial rock, post-punk, dark new wave and experimental metal.

The group released its first album in 1993 entitled DIG, followed by an EP: PIT (on the labels Noise Product CH and Semetary), and at that time had three musicians, already working with samples and playing with blocks of sound.

In 1996, the trio became a duo with a second album entitled LOW (Noise Product CH), recorded, mixed and produced by Nicolas Dick. The artist ErikM intervened on the interludes with sound tracks which frame each title of the group. The album is hailed by the press as a perfect balance between melody and distortion.

Over the years, tracks have appeared on a large number of compilations: La Famille (Noise Product Belgium), Serial Killer Vol 1 (Roadrunner), Brutale Generation (Semetary / WMD), Ah Quelle Belle journée (Amanita records), A Wild State Of Noise And Disorder (Pandemonium), 5 Years Of Fury (Noise Product CH), Tribute To Godflesh (Nihilistic H. Rec.), Fear Drop 14 : "Coal Fire" The Cure masterpiece Pornography, Dark 80's (Atropine Records) etc.

Frederic De Benedetti joined the band on guitar and it's again as a trio that the album 203 BARRIERS was released by Season Of Mist in 2001, the album again entirely recorded and produced by Nicolas Dick. With this new opus Kill the Thrill’s music has evolved towards a daring, disturbing and more extreme sound. With international promotion and distribution, signing with the label Season Of Mist allowed an opportunity of further development for the band.

Kill the Thrill has shared stages all over Europe with other artists such as Godflesh, Killing Joke, Zeni Geva, Isis, Young Gods, Treponem Pal, Einstürzende Neubauten, La Muerte, Neurosis, Jesu, Jim Rose Circus, Grötus, Dillinger, Escape Plan, Dälek, etc.

The album TELLURIQUE released in 2005 (Season Of Mist, recorded and produced by Nicolas) combines a cold and clinical industrial/metal sound with a new wave sensibility, bathed in a heavily melancholic atmosphere, but leaning more in the direction of noisy, distorted shoegazing mists than the fires of metal. The album is described by the press as an organic journey in which you must immerse yourself to feel its harshness and beauty.

This exacerbated trio asserts itself as a true entity in symbiosis, with an unfiltered and no holds barred take on music and sound.
Anger has no origin, and when the events from which it arises, physical bodies and soundwaves, can no longer contain patience and intelligibility, the sounds become the violence.

But with Kill the Thrill, violence is always suggested more than frontally expressed, it remains hemmed in and contained.

In 2015 the band reissued its first under the title 1989 (Atypeek Records), a digital-only album intended as a nod to KILL THE THRILL’s origins.
During a few years of silence put to good use on the personal and musical projects of the members of the group, Kill the Thrill took the time to polish a new version which should be released at the beginning of 2024.

The band has released a limited number of albums in its career so far, but is resistant to all erosion, the secret of its longevity residing in the timelessness of the music.

An atypical band whose music is enough to itself ; a discrete band for imposing music ; a group which reveals next to nothing but pursues its sonic quest, outside of common standards. A living ambiguity: cold and hot, the calm and the storm.

"A long flow of orgasmic lava, a wave of shimmering noises that carries away everything in its path. One immerses oneself entirely in its bewitching atmospheres. We leave for a long descent on a carpet of guitars, their richness is inside, under this heap of notes and noises, under this black and disturbing mass. It's up to you to understand what you can during a journey that is sublime".

New Jersey's CR and The Nones present 'The Hills of Pennsylvania', the latest single from their sophomore album 'The Ghosts Are Coming Home', released via Montclair label Magic Door Records. They earlier previewed two singles in the lead-up to this epic release - 'The Long Game' and the record's title track.

Gennone came of age playing in various projects in suburban New Jersey, including his former band, CR and The Degenerates, who released five albums from 2016 to 2018. This new project has allowed him to expand the unique hybrid of folk, country, punk, and heartland rock. CR and The Nones retains the Degenerates' core of Chris Gennone, lead/slide guitarist Jim Abbott, and bassist John Dewitt.

'The Hills of Pennsylvania' is the most Americana-influenced track on the album. Chris Gennone notes, "I wrote this song in my car while driving to visit my grandmother in the hospital. I started humming a melody and the words came pretty quick. She's hanging in there, but I was on edge! My friends Andrew Merclean and Liz Sadkowski shot this video at my apartment and around some farm land outside of Kutztown, PA".

CR and The Nones released their debut album 'Living In Fear' in 2020. Recalling past Garden State guitar music, Gennone’s soulful vocals and his band’s driving hooks invoke roads, journeys, and forward motion in general. Counting Neil Young and Jason Molina among major influences, his sound has always been propulsive.

Mixed by renowned producer Ray Ketchem (Guided By Voices, Luna, Versus, Elk City, Gramercy Arms) at Magic Door Recording Studio in Montclair, this album was produced by Chris Gennone (CR to his friends) and mastered by Nick Bolton at Bolton Sound in Jersey City.  
 
'The Ghosts Are Coming Home' is a culmination of the sound and aesthetic that CR Gennone has been building over many years and multiple bands. With an expansiveness and introspection that recalls The War on Drugs or early My Morning Jacket, the ten tracks here showcase an irresistible sincerity and heartfelt delivery.

"I wrote and recorded this album before, during and after Covid, and I lived in five different places during this time, so it was a different experience than other stuff I’ve made. In the past, we’ve kind of just rolled with it and come up with guitar leads, riffs, and sounds on the fly. With Covid lockdowns and the help of some friends, this record really gave me the time and space to write and play my own leads, sing my own harmonies, change arrangements, and take on more of the production aspect of it," says CR Gennone.

"I went through a lot of personal changes during the making of this record and I feel like the songs kind of take you through that journey. It’s a hopeful record, but also one that still features loss and even desperation at times. But by its end, there’s a feeling of acceptance and understanding."
 
More thoughtful and purposive in his songwriting for this album, and encouraged by friends from the NYC and NJ music scenes, Gennone was lured out of his normal songwriting process and comfort zone, opening him to new influences and fostering his growth as a songwriter. Gennone recalls listening to Brian Eno non-stop while recording 'Ghosts', and the synth sounds and ambient textures that underpin much of the album are certainly a testament to that.

Kurt Deimer has released the official lyric video for single "Doom" and has announced tour dates alongside rock legends Tesla.

“'Doom' is a song I wrote for my movie coming soon called Hellbilly Hollow. It’s a feature film and part of a franchise that I created a couple years ago. 'Doom' will be featured as a big single from the movie and soundtrack and I thought it was very appropriate to write 'Doom' for the movie because it exposes the dark side of the horror, and the dark side of heroin addiction, and the problem that it has become in our society. Heroin is just one of the many drug issues we face. By incorporating its dark connotations and themes of what addiction like that can bring and capture the description of that with words and other visual aspects that you might see in a horror film, I felt was very compelling. Blending the darkness of addiction and the darkness of horror, into one song I feel makes it powerful and explosive. I want to touch people in many ways not only in the vehicle of horror movies as a lead track, but also expose people to think about what we can do to help those or help with the issue of heroin addiction. That my friends is 'Doom,''' says Kurt Deimer.

In a world that seems to be spiraling out of control, Kurt Deimer is a man with a very clear mission: Work Hard, Rock Hard, Play hard and Spread positivity. In fact, his mantra could be summed up: “Take the high road, do the right thing, encourage others.” It sounds like a tall order these days in a world full of warring factions. And it’s an unusual mission for a singer/songwriter vocalist whose music could be described as hard rock, even heavy metal – genres that are not always synonymous with positivity.

Deimer, for his part, describes his work as good old fashioned rock and roll. “And it’s as good a vehicle as any for spreading good vibes” he says. “I’m here to encourage others to treat people with respect, dignity and kindness,” he says. “I’ve been through a lot of things in my life and I try to share that with others and be a beacon of hope for my listeners.”

That positivity and perseverance has paid off for the native of Cincinnati, Ohio. He’s not only launched a movie franchise, Hellbilly Hollow, by filming and starring in a feature length horror film of the same name. He’s also recorded more than two dozen songs with legendary producer Chris Lord-Alge (Green Day, James Brown and the Rolling Stones), his management team includes Brian Wheat, manager of TESLA who discovered him while opening for TESLA.

Chris Lord-Alge says he was drawn to Kurt’s originality as an artist. “I saw something completely different in Kurt, and that was the lure for me. He isn’t a typical rock or country artist – I love hearing him talk and narrating a story, and I was drawn to taking those stories and helping turn them into music. He’s a personality, he’s someone you want to talk to.”

Things have not always been positive in Deimer’s world. At age 20, as a young rock vocalist, he found himself in the grips of drug addiction. He later discovered he was using substances to medicate an underlying anxiety condition. At that young age, he quit drugs, got help for his anxiety and never looked back.

He eventually started buying and selling rental properties and used that money to start the first of several successful companies he owns. Despite making his mark in the business world, Deimer didn’t feel ready to settle down and “join the country club and play golf all day” – so at an age when most people start thinking about slowing down, he started to speed up.

Inspired by the artists that helped shape him – Boston, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Bob Marley and AC/DC, to name just a few – he started writing song lyrics.

Inspired by his love of movies and acting roles in films including the 2018 ‘Halloween’ remake – where his character was killed by Michael Myers – and John Travolta’s ‘Trading Paint,’ he started hashing out a movie concept that became his eventual Hellbilly Hollow feature film and franchise.

Deimer has supported Geoff Tate on an expansive cross-country tour that highlighted material from his debut EP, that came out on November 19, 2021, which includes a duet with Tate and a trilogy of music videos directed by Scottish filmmaker Paul Boyd [Sting, Deadmau5, The Cult] that spotlight Deimer’s cinematic vision and charismatic presence. Along with many other supporting shows including TESLA, Drowning Pool and Yngwie Malmsteen all this within the first two years of touring.

For Deimer, the inspiration is to make the world a better place one song at a time, singing about the ills of the 21st century and offering solutions instead of excuses. “When people listen to my music, I want to help them decompress and feel better after a brutal day. That’s what music always did for me, and that’s what we need more of today.”

Psychedelic pop artist Black Market Karma presents 'Wisdom Shifter', the motorik yet lush B-side from 'The Sour Truth feat. Sonic Boom', out now on 10" vinyl and digitally via London boutique label Flower Power Records. Running on supple and subtle lines, showering cascades of shimmering sonics along the way, 'Wisdom Shifter' is the perfect companion to A-side 'The Sour Truth' - a fab collab with iconic Spacemen 3 and Spectrum founder Sonic Boom (aka Pete Kember).

Black Market Karma mastermind Stanley Belton explains, "The Sour Truth release needed a B-Side and I’d had this new song floating around in my skull for a while, called ‘Wisdom Shifter’, which I felt complimented it perfectly, so I recorded it and here we are.

With Kember as co-producer and on synth and percussion, 'The Sour Truth' is a slice of technicolour psych-pop - a trippy, kaleidoscopic and vibrantly nostalgic feel-good track. With cycling Lo-fi guitars, stacked tremolos, shimmering vocals and sugary winding synths, it is laced with lyrics about the pain of cognitive dissonance after loving a version of someone that turned out to be a facade. “Sick and tired of being sick and tired. It was just a mirage that I admired”.

I think it’s a song most of us can relate to... Hearty stuff for a hungry soul. One of my fave things from the strange past few. Was a pleasure to mix. I wish I'd written it".

Pete Kember founded Spacemen 3 with Jason Pierce in 1982 and the band went onto achieve widespread critical acclaim before going their separate was around 1990. Kember has since embarked on further sonic adventures with Spectrum and E.A.R. (Experimental Audio Research) and solo (both as Sonic Boom and Pete Kember). As a producer, he has also been involved in some quite notable projects involving MGMT, Beach House, Panda Bear and Moon Duo, among others.

DEAD BY WEDNESDAY Drops Post-Apocalyptic Music Video for “Wasteland” & Announces a Special Hometown “Throwback” Show

Metal titans DEAD BY WEDNESDAY (D.B.W.) have unleashed a thrilling new post-apocalyptic music video for their track "Wasteland," a raw and adrenaline-fueled anthem from their latest Capital Conspiracy album, now available worldwide on Mindsnap Music / Combat Records, distributed by Von Artists, Ltd. (The Orchard). Inspired by the desolate yet captivating setting of the Mojave Desert in California, the band crafted this intense song, and coincidentally, some footage was shot at the renowned "Wasteland Weekend" festival, an event synonymous with post-apocalyptic fervor held annually in late September.

FOSCOR Return with "Solitud"

It's been four long years since we've heard from Foscor. The Catalonians released their last album in the fall of 2019. Despite rave reviews, including a 5-star review from Metal Hammer, touring was cut short before the band could even step foot on the open road after COVID-19 shuttered the world into lockdown.

But Foscor have never stopped growing. While their name still means "darkness", the band have shifted out from the shroud of second wave black metal that ushered in their first two albums. Today, they're returning with "Solitud", an unreleased song that drifts deeper into clean vocals and heavy melancholic riffs.

"Solitud" was originally recorded during the sessions for Els Sepulcres Blancs, but the song encapsulates the prevailing loneliness of the pandemic. The chorus crushes you softly with its distorted melody and bottomless bass drones. 

"The song itself offers a vital closure", says Foscor. Still, "Solitud" ends on a hopeful note. Gliding above an acrobatic guitar solo, the vocals - sung in the band's native tongue - are clean and light as a feather.

"This song is a proper way to close that album cycle before definitely facing and closing the trilogy initiated in 2017 with Les Irreals Visions. It reminds us the spark to enlighten the future...the one that we have never walked alone. A brand new chant from the past, looking toward a final chapter, surrounded by tragic darkness.

The Catalans return with the second chapter of the trilogy initiated with “Les Irreals Visions” in 2017, yet strongly connected to the fin de siècle cultural movement of Modernisme - a parallel development to Art Nouveau and Jugendstil among others. Visual things must acquire a new secret appearance, and with ‘Els Sepulcres Blancs’ FOSCOR treats poetically how facing a change of a sick world and society through the land of dreams.

The title translates as “The White Tombs”, a metaphor for that world of dreams and expectations where humans chained to reality may die and born free to imagine a better one.

Foscor hail from Catalonia, and take inspiration from the morbid, decadent, and sick reflections on a rapidly changing society, as the artistic landscape at the end of the nineteenth century shaped.

The name Foscor translates as "darkness" in their native Catalan tongue, which the band from Barcelona uses for their lyrics as a distinctive element and strong connection with their cultural reality.

The Catalans’ first two albums, 'Entrance to the Shadows' Village' (2004), 'The Smile of the Sad Ones' (2007) wrapped a shroud of classic second wave black metal around a melancholic yet vital core. 'Groans to the Guilty' (2009) witnessed Foscor setting out towards more progressive and avant-garde course, but it was next full-length 'Those Horrors Wither' (2014) which marked a clear departure from the black metal. Darkness found an equally strong expression through the use of very personal clean vocals, tempo reduction and atmosphere.

In 2017, Foscor took another step in their constantly changing and shifting evolution. The brand new release 'Les Irreals Visions' (2017) was easily drawing its eager audience in, only to lure the unwary listener into a dark labyrinth of unexpected complexity filled with beauty and sorrow. COLIN STOUGH LETS THOUGHTS RUN WILD IN “SLEEP TONIGHT (ACOUSTIC)”

19 Recordings/BMG artist Colin Stough bares a wounded soul in the stripped-down “Sleep Tonight (Acoustic),” sharing a new rendition alongside a performance video today (12/8). Available across all streaming platforms and digital retailers, listen here.

Written by Stough with Sean Thomas Rogers and Brian Congdon, the original version was part of his six-track debut EP, Promiseland – a crunchy power-confession full of worry over the fragility of life, which helped introduce the new-school Country rocker with a high-voltage vocal.

“I actually started this one as a poem, so a more raw version felt true to where this song came from. I was really hurting after hearing about another death in my life and I just started writing,” shares Stough. “Once I took that poem into the writing room, we got our guitars and started writing, so it really did begin as a guitar-vocal. Stripping back the production lets these lyrics be the focus and makes it hit even harder since this writing is so personal to me.”

“Sleep Tonight (Acoustic)” reveals the man behind the words, peeling back a rough exterior to showcase a deep-feeling artist within, as Stough tones his raspy vocal down to a soft buzz and sings with just an acoustic guitar in support. Produced by Sean Rogers, the reimagined tune ends up highlighting the relatable agony of the young artist’s lyrics, aching over thoughts that run wild each night. Meanwhile, up close-and-personal acoustic performance footage that was filmed and edited by Mike Rodway captures the internal struggle, as Stough sinks into emotional turmoil – before finding the strength to carry on.

“Every day, you’re getting closer to who you want to be, but you’re not there yet,” shares Wright. “I made mistakes in a relationship and really hurt a lot of people. Looking back, I was able to grow so much from it. But it was very difficult, and to be the bad guy in a situation is never easy.
 
“It’s much easier to talk about somebody else being the bad guy, but it’s different when it’s me,” Wright admits. “I hope people can hear the authenticity, and I hope they can give themselves some grace for a mistake they’ve made.”

Osiah Release New Album 'Kairos' via Unique Leader Records

Finishing up a momentous 2023, deathcore quartet Osiah have released their new album 'Kairos' via Unique Leader Records. Accompanying the release, the band shared their new track "The Inherited Sorrow" along with the official music video. 'Kairos' is Osiah's fourth album and the follow-up to their 2021 full-length, 'Loss'. When asked about today's news, the band commented:

"'Kairos' is a true departure from the past with a valiant stride to Osiah's progression. Instrumentally it encapsulates the very essence of us as musicians and lyrically it is inspired by a recent burying of the hatchet, and focusing instead on understanding the concept of mortality. Hailing from the extreme music melting pot that is the northeast of England, Osiah transcends the deathcore label with what could possibly be the most torturous barrage of filth the UK has produced in recent years. Crushingly intense breakdowns and deathly chops tread a familiar path, but jarringly detuned guitars, unpredictable tempo changes and vocals that range from wide-ranging pitched screams to commanding guttural bowel openers add an extra evil to the sound that cannot be put into words.

After releasing their first EP 'Reborn Through Hate' in 2015, Osiah released their first full-length album ‘Terror Firma’ in June 2016 via Siege Music. American death metal purveyors SKELETAL REMAINS are now unveiling "Relentless Appetite," the second explosive single from their upcoming new full-length, 'Fragments of the Ageless,' which is due via Century Media Records on March 8, 2024! The single is now available along with a pummeling and blood-soaked video, which was directed by Steven Grise of 197 Media, below.

“We feel it’s more brutal than the last one,” says Chris Monroy (guitars/vocals) about the new record. “We were pushing ourselves to be more extreme—vibing on that as much as possible.” Today doesn’t only mark official start of the preorder of the album, but also the release of 'Relentless Appetite.'"

Lyrically, SKELETAL REMAINS took the left-hand path. Rather than topics and themes inspiring the cover art, Dan Seagrave’s (Suffocation, Entombed, et al.) famously atramentous detail conversely informed the lyrics and album title. Monroy says they had working titles that they conveyed to Seagrave, but the final painting sparked the title, “Fragments of the Ageless”. Of course, the usual influx of sci-fi, historical, personal struggles, and fantastical also played a part.

“Seagrave completed the cover art before we had a title,” Monroy says. “That was kind of different, but it worked in our favor. The cover art directly inspired a few of the lyrics and musical themes, tying multiple pieces together, which is a first for us. We did show him different pieces of art—10 in all, I think—that we liked, so there was direction. We wanted a mixture of things, with the final idea being a creature being taken apart and its DNA extracted. Seagrave’s crazy brain made it all come to life.”

SKELETAL REMAINS recorded “Fragments of the Ageless” at various home and professional studios. Most of the guitars, bass, and solos were tracked DIY. The band wanted the drums to sound as imposing as possible, so they booked Trench Studios (Intronaut, Hirax) with John Haddad, while the vocals were cut at Birdcage Studios with Allen Falcon (Pestilent Death). Once the album’s core had been recorded, Monroy and the team sent their sick slab to Swedish studio ace Dan Swanö (Asphyx, Incantation) for mixing and mastering.

While SKELETAL REMAINS have had four full-lengths since forming in 2011, “Fragments of the Ageless” is the band in their highest grotesque gear yet.

When rules break, rock ‘n’ roll moves forward. Standing at a crossroads between 21st century attitude and old school arena-size ambition, Pistols At Dawn lock and load hard-hitting hooks, magnetic melodies, and intricate instrumentation in a searing signature style. The Atlanta quartet—Adam Jaffe [drums], Will James [lead guitar], Gabriel Cuevas [bass], and Jon Sookdew Sing [lead vocals+rhythm guitar]—re-energize the genre, while maintaining its edge. After independently amassing over 6 million streams and collaborating with icons such as GRAMMY® Award-winning producer and engineer Sylvia Massy [Tool, System of a Down, Johnny Cash], the group deliver eight anthems on their 2022 full-length album, Ascension, via distributor Megaforce Records/MRI Entertainment. “All of our influences come out in the music, but with our own stamp,” says Adam. “There’s definitely a hard rock vibe combined with progressive lyrics. Speaking to this alchemy, in 2015 the band immediately entered the studio with producer Jeff Tomei [Smashing Pumpkins, Matchbox 20] to record their first singles before entertaining various other projects. During 2019, the original lineup joined forces again. Ultimately, original founder Jaffe completed the lineup with incendiary world class guitarist James, and elite progressive rock duo Sookdew Sing and Cuevas.

They unleashed music at a prolific pace in addition to personally engaging fans worldwide with an immersive online presence. “Cold” exploded to the tune of 1 million streams across platforms followed by "Gauntlet" and "All You Offer" with another million streams. Working with producer Jeff Tomei, they unleashed the Nocturnal Youth EP in 2021. The opener and lead single “Voices” impressively generated 1 million plays in under a month. In the midst of the Global Pandemic, they caught the attention of Massy and recorded what would become Ascension with the legendary producer behind the board alongside co-producer Chris Pierson.

Musically and thematically, it allowed a sliver of light to pass through the world’s darkness. “On Nocturnal Youth, we were going through a dark time in the Global Pandemic,” Jaffe states. “On Ascension, we’re coming into the light and embracing life. There’s still dark subject matter on the record, but it was positive to write. It melded together the way we’d always hoped.”

Anchored by a balance of extremes, the lead single “The Truth” nods to nineties alternative with a distinct and dynamic twist. Adam goes on, “It revolves around the constant noise we have in our head pushing and pulling our emotions so much that we sometimes lose total control and explode. We have to be careful to maintain our thoughts and emotions, or ‘The Truth’ is that they could tear us apart.”

Elsewhere, the opener and follow-up single “Under The Surface” immediately sets the tone with a hypnotic riff and hard-hitting vocal, barely containing its cathartic momentum in the searing lyrics, “Take what you want and leave me for dead. All that I need is under the surface.”

“This song deals with the hell some have to go through above ground with people constantly taking, lying, and poisoning,” he reveals. “So, you want to be buried deep to get away from society where no one will find you.”

“Fly” leans into a dark chorus and instantly memorable hook, equally soaring and shuddering all at once. It strikes a chord with its timeless theme presented through a nocturnal prism. “It’s a powerful and dark love song about wanting to disappear with your true love,” he elaborates. “Musically, diversity was important to us. So, each song really tells a different story with a distinct sound.”

Indicative of this diversity, “For You” steamrolls forward on a hulking groove fortified by a punchy riff and towering refrain. It sets the tone for the rollercoaster to follow. “It’s about finding someone really special who is worth changing for,” notes Adam. “If you find someone you love enough, you’ll change. It’s the light at the end of the tunnel.”

Ultimately, Pistols At Dawn ignite a fresh and fiery vision for rock all their own.
