Heavy // Hitter Drop "Heaven's Gate" Video — WATCH // EP Out NOW

Orlando, Florida juggernauts HEAVY//HITTER  Austin Hayes [vocals], Dane Loeprich [guitar], Chris Perez [bass], and Josh Archeval [drums] —dropped their new EP, Moments of Misery, November 8, via Blue Grape Music. Get it here.

The band has also shared the video for "Heaven's Gate." Watch it below.

The high impact, black and white performance video, courtesy of Lawnchair Youth, will leave you wanting to to fight your way to the front of the pit at the next Heavy // Hitter show in your town.

"This song is about living your life the way you think is right because you're trying to get to your own personal gateway of heaven," says Hayes. "So, you're going to do anything you can to reach that point and feel like you're worthy of this prize at the end. Everybody wants a slice of heaven."

HEAVY//HITTER will be touring throughout the fall, with headline dates and a trek in support of Carnifex and Cryptopsy on deck. All confirmed dates are below.

HEAVY//HITTER are, have always been, and always will be... unabashedly and undeniably real.

Since 2019, the band have buzzed as an underground upstart. They bulldozed a path with the Street Violence EP in 2021. They picked up plugs from Lambgoat, Lawnchair Youth, and more. Between packing houses live, they caught the attention of Blue Grape Music and signed to the label.

Unwavering drive, hustle, and a committed grind brought them to this point.

"Before I started this band, I quit music for five years," says Austin. "I tried to go to college. I was a general manager at Domino's Pizza. I did construction. Nothing was fulfilling, so I got back into music and started HEAVY//HITTER  with Dane. I just never gave up on this band. We always want more, and we’re not going to stop."

The band decamped to Los Angeles where they recorded Moments of Misery with producer Austin Coupe. Inspired by the likes of Suicide Silence, Knocked Loose, and Carnifex, they refined an "OG deathcore sound with newer hardcore and metalcore elements," according to the fontman.

Ultimately, HEAVY//HITTER hold nothing back.

"When you listen to us, I hope you feel the emotion we put into the record. That's what music is about. We're not a machine. We're human and honest," Hayes shares.

What more could you want from a band?

ABOUT BLUE GRAPE MUSIC:
In 2022, industry veterans David Rath and Cees Wessels formed Blue Grape Music.  The name will be familiar to rock music fans, as it was the merchandise company also launched by Wessels, who founded the venerable and esteemed record label Roadrunner Records in the '80s. Roadrunner earned a reputation as an iconic label that turned hard rock and metal acts into household names for several decades under Wessels' tutelage. Rath spent 21 years in the A&R department at Roadrunner, working on albums by a variety of RIAA-certified and culturally important acts, including but not limited to SlipknotKornTurnstileGojiraCoheed and CambriaWhite ReaperSlashTriviumDream Theater, and more. When the label changed management and ownership, Rath guided the company and oversaw the signings of bands like Young the Giant and Vance Joy. Ultimately, the Blue Grape executive team is powered by experience and a roll-up-your-sleeves-and-get-your-hands-dirty, by-any-means-necessary work ethic. Blue Grape's inaugural signing was the two-time Grammy nominee Code Orange and since then, the label has gone on to sign San Francisco punks Spiritual Cramp, hardcore heavyweights GEL, and Baltimore sludge slingers GASKET, with several new signing announcements expected to be announced this year. Blue Grape is distributed globally by The Orchard.

Portland's SUN ATOMS release 'Everything Forever' album feat. guests from MODEST MOUSE, THE VANDELLES & more

Portland psychedelic gaze-wave outfit Sun Atoms present their sophomore album 'Everything Forever', released on November 8 via Little Cloud Records. Meticulously crafted with cosmic energy, their magnum opus features notable guest appearances by Modest Mouse’s Isaac Brock, Jasno Swarez of The Vandelles, and Lauren Andino of Tremours, amongst others. This sophomore album realizes the promise that was there in the debut not only musically, but in a sacred sense. This album gets between the ears, then heads south down past the brain and into the heart.

Sun Atoms is made up of vocalist Jsun Atoms (The Upsidedown, Daydream Machine), producer and bassist Peter G. Holmström (The Dandy WarholsPete International Airport), multi- instrumentalist June Kang, saxophonist-trumpeter- guitarist Mars de Ponte (LoveBomb Go-Go), drummer Eric Rubalcava and guitarist Derek Spencer Longoria-Gomez (Hi Hazel).

Homström and iconic mixing engineer Jagz Kooner had just finished The Dandy Warhols' latest album, generating an extraordinary symbiosis. Credited with creating some of the most genre-defining songs of the last 30 years, Kooner began his career working with Andrew Weatherall, remixing and producing for the likes of Bjork, The Chemical Brothers and New Order, as well as mixing for Primal Scream, Massive Attack, Oasis, Garbage and Killing Joke. With Pete producing and Jagz mixing in one of the great marvels of prehistoric Britain (Avebury Henge) at Jagz's Stone Circles Studios, the pair pushed the sonic envelope into the great abyss. The coup de grace was having Keith Tenniswood (Spiritualized, Death in Vegas) master the album at Curve Pusher UK.

Last week, the band shared the surreal, psychedelic fever dream of a video for 'Narco Polo' featuring Isaac Brock of Modest Mouse, which Jsun Atoms says "feels like a dada ice cream party inside a Salvador Dali painting". Holmström and Brock have been friends and collaborators for years, and Sun Atoms recently supported Modest Mouse for some West Coast shows. Earlier in 2024, Sun Atoms released the lead single 'Ceiling Tiles' with Leonard Cohen tribute 'Tower of Song (in the key of JAMC)', and fantastic sonic odyssey 'Take This Love' with B-side 'And The Lion Saw The UFO'.

A genre-defying fusion of psychedelic rock and indie pop, Sun Atoms push the boundaries of their own sonic exploration. Their debut album 'Let There Be Light' (2021). mixed by producer Stephen Street (Blur, The Smiths, The Cranberries), also involvedThe Black Angels’ Alex Maas,The Vandelles' Jasno SwarezandGregg Williams (Sheryl Crow, Blitzen Trapper)

This year, Sun Atoms played a series of sold-out concerts with Dinosaur Jr., crowning the list of shows they have played with Fishbone, Modest Mouse, Federale, Besnard Lakes, The Veldt, New Candys and TREMOURS. They've also shared the stage with the likes of Ty Segall, A Place To Bury Strangers, Neko Case, Built To Spill. Allah Las, Broncho and Night Beats.

As of November 8, 'Everything Forever' is out everywhere, including Apple Music, Spotify and Bandcamp.  It can also be ordered on vinyl directly from Little Cloud Records. Sun Atoms has several upcoming concerts in Portland and Seattle, accompanied by The Veldt, Asteroid #4, Los Mundos and Valley Suns, capping off the year with The Dandy Warhols 30th Anniversary show (with LSD & The Search For God and TREMOURS) in Portland on December 11.

Cocteau Twins legend Robin Guthrie presents new 'Astoria' EP, second of two EPs in 2024

Following up his luminous 'Atlas' EP, released this summer, legendary Scottish songsmith Robin Guthrie is back to kiss off 2024 with his new 'Astoria' EP, released via his Soleil Après Minuit imprint.  Delivering another four powerful and captivating instrumentals recorded earlier this year, 'Astoria' takes further inspiration from his post-pandemic travels and produced in his studio in Bretagne.

A rich crucible of sound packed into four tracks, Guthrie takes the listener on a peaceful and contemplative journey of dreamy and atmospheric instrumentals.  Like a Part 1 and Part 2 of his 2024 output, 'Astoria' and 'Atlas' represent Guthrie's first output since 2021, a prolific year that marked the end of a nine-year hiatus with the release of his 'Pearldiving' album and three EP's - 'Mockingbird Love', 'Riviera' and ' Springtime'.

“My EP 'Astoria' picks up where my release 'Atlas' had set off towards - a conclusion of a journey, like an arrival at a far-off destination. I enjoy the continuity, and the EP format allows me to express these ideas in an episodic form," says Robin Guthrie

Nearly 45 years since founding legendary dreampop / ethereal wave band Cocteau Twins, Robin Guthrie has certainly been its most prolific member, offering a steady and stellar stream of material over the years with a production style and signature guitar sounds that have shaped multiple genres and generations.

Guthrie's approach to music is akin to that of a painter or a photographer. The adept use of light and shade, melody and counter melody, the carefully and precisely arranged instrumentation, musical textures and colorings gives his music a depth and level of detail which marks a master craftsman.

In his time, Guthrie's output includes film soundtracks and collaborated with many outstanding people, the latest impactful release happening with 2021's 'Another Flower' with Harold Budd, released just a few days before Budd's untimely passing. They had also jointly composed the film scores for Gregg Araki's ‘Mysterious Skin’and ‘White Bird in a Blizzard’. Other notable collaborators include John FoxxMark Gardener, Telefon Tel-Aviv, Eraldo Bernocchi and Jay Jay Johanson.

He has produced and remixed countless artists, including Lush, The Veldt, A.R.Kane, Dif Juz, Chapterhouse, Felt, Mahogany and Violet Indiana, which he'd formed with Siobhan de Maré in 1999. More recently, Guthrie worked with HeligolandJack Colwell, ResplandorFawns of Love, UmmagmaHatchie and Tam aryn.

The 'Astoria' EP is out now, available on CD and also digitally from fine platforms, including Apple MusicSpotify and Bandcamp, where Guthrie's rich back catalogue can also be found. Released via Soleil Après Minuit, the EP is distributed in North America via The Orchard and in Europe by Cargo

THE TRAGICALLY HIP CAP OFF 40TH ANNIVERSARY YEAR WITH DELUXE BOXSET

Today, The Tragically Hip digitally releases the commemorative boxset of their Diamond-certified debut album, Up To Here, the latest installment of special deluxe packages. Up To Here was originally released September 5, 1989, as The Tragically Hip’s first full-length studio album, an introduction that brought them breakthrough success, including two Canadian rock radio #1 singles, “Blow at High Dough” and “New Orleans is Sinking.” The album also earned the band a JUNO Award for “Most Promising Artist” in 1990.

The expanded reissue of Up To Here is a must-have for collectors, presented as a four-LP set on 180g vinyl, alongside liner notes documenting the history of the debut album era. The reissue includes a 2024 remastering of the original album and five previously unreleased songs that didn’t make it on the original Up To Here album - “She’s Got What It Takes,” “Get Back Again,” “Rain, Hearts And Fire,” “Hailstone Hands Of God,” and “Wait So Long” are also shared as part of this expanded package, remastered and mixed in Atmos. A recording of Live at Misty Moon, the special filmed for MuchMusic in 1990 from the Misty Moon Cabaret in Halifax, is also included, with an accompanying 1-hour concert film on Blu-ray. The package also contains demos from 1988 that were recorded prior to the Up To Here recording session. The four-LP box set, as well as a three-disc CD format, will be released on Friday, November 15. Fans can order Up To Here HERE today via UMe.

In June, The Tragically Hip officially dropped the new single “Get Back Again,” which fans consider to be the holy grail of previously unreleased tracks from the band. The track was recorded before signing to their first major record deal with MCA (now Universal Music Canada), produced by Chris Wardman in November 1988, before the Up To Here sessions, now remixed and mastered to today’s standards. The song recently reached #1 in Canada, marking their first chart-topping hit in 15 years. The band performed “Get Back Again” as part of the Live At Misty Moon set in 1990, which had been the only recorded version of the track from the band until now.

THE TRAGICALLY HIP IN 2024:
2024 marked the band’s 40th anniversary, which included physical releases (boxset featuring unreleased tracks, also available on DSPs and radio), fan-centric activations (Record Store Day, in-person screenings, listening parties, and public singalongs), the global premiere of a docuseries, a coffee table book in partnership with Genesis Publications, new merch, dedicated support at radio, streaming platforms, syncs, and social media campaigns.

The celebration kicked off in March when fans were teased with the upcoming coffee table book, This Is Our Life. In April, the band was tapped as the Canadian Record Store Day Ambassadors and released exclusive vinyl from their 1993 performance at NYC’s iconic CBGBs.

On August 8th,  the band’s hit “Ahead By A Century” was featured in The Umbrella Academy on Netflix. The next day, Prime Video’s trailer was released, leading to a 138% spike in Shazam searches in one day.

No Dress Rehearsal, directed by Mike Downie (brother of the late Gord Downie, lead singer of the band), opened the Toronto International Film Festival in September, where it won the People’s Choice Documentary Award, the first time a series received this honor in the festival’s history. Following the premiere, a massive public singalong of the band’s hits took place in downtown Toronto, attended by fans. The series received rave reviews from Rolling Stone Magazine, SPIN Magazine, NPR, BBC, and others. It also had additional screenings at film festivals and won the 25th Anniversary Audience Award for Top Overall Score at the Calgary International Film Festival.

40 YEARS OF THE TRAGICALLY HIP:
The Tragically Hip has been at the heart of the Canadian musical zeitgeist, evoking a strong, unrivalled emotional connection between their music and their fans. A five-piece group of friends including Rob Baker (guitar), Gord Downie (vocals, guitar), Johnny Fay (drums), Paul Langlois (guitar) and Gord Sinclair (bass), who grew up in Kingston, Ontario, The Tragically Hip have achieved both mass popularity with more than 12 million albums in Canada and over 2 million sold in the U.S, as well as peer recognition through 17 Juno Awards – picking up the distinguished Humanitarian Award in 2021 at the 50th annual JUNO Awards, which recognizes Canadian artists or industry leaders whose humanitarian contributions have positively enhanced the social fabric of Canada and beyond. In 2022, they were inducted into Canada’s Walk Of Fame for Humanitarianism in pursuit of social and environmental justice. They had previously received a star on the Walk Of Fame in 2002 for Arts & Entertainment. Most recently, the band, along with their manager, Jake Gold, received the War Child Canada Founder’s Award, celebrating over 20 years of support for the global humanitarian organization. The Tragically Hip's tireless activism and philanthropic pursuits have raised millions of dollars for multiple social and environmental causes, such as Camp Trillium, the Canadian Cancer Society, the Sunnybrook Foundation, WAR Child, the Special Olympics, and the Unison Benevolent Fund. Their studio catalogue includes their self-titled debut album The Tragically Hip (1987), Up To Here (1989), Road Apples (1991), Fully Completely (1992), Day For Night (1994), Trouble At The Henhouse (1996), Phantom Power (1998), Music @ Work (2000), In Violet Light (2002), In Between Evolution (2004), World Container (2006), We Are The Same (2009), Now For Plan A (2012), Man Machine Poem (2016) and Saskadelphia (2021).  A National Celebration was the final show of The Tragically Hip’s Man Machine Poem Tour, recorded on August 20th, 2016, at the K-Rock Centre in their hometown of Kingston, Ontario, and is their last performance as a five-piece band. Through their career, the band became a cultural touchstone in Canada, who, despite their accolades and numerous recognitions, will always be proudest of the humanitarian work they have done over the years through numerous charitable organizations and causes. The legacy of the band's frontman, the late Gord Downie, continues with The Gord Downie and Chanie Wenjack Fund, which aims to build cultural understanding and create a path toward reconciliation between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples.

Established in 1984, 2024 marks 40 Years of The Tragically Hip – a milestone for the beloved band. The Tragically Hip broke open the archives, reminiscing with fans on four decades of music, friendship, and philanthropy. The band’s legacy is being honored with a yearlong celebration, which started with the designation of the Record Store Day Canada Ambassadors, the launch of a four-part Amazon Prime Documentary titled No Dress Rehearsal, which won The People’s Choice Award at TIFF, and the 25th Anniversary audience award for top overall score at CIFF. On October 1, in partnership with Genesis Publications, they released a deluxe, hand-crafted book titled This Is Our Life, the band’s story as told in their own words and features more than 300 pages of unseen rarities pulled from the band’s personal collections. The Up To Here boxset celebrates the early days of The Tragically Hip and is the latest installment of a series of reissues released over the last few years honoring the band’s extensive catalog – Road Apples 30th Anniversary Deluxe Boxset (2021), Fully Completely Vinyl Release (2022), Phantom Power 25th Anniversary Deluxe Boxset (2023).

Dark Chapel announce Debut Album

Guitarist/singer/producer Dario Lorina, best-known as a longtime member of Black Label Society (2014 to present), is launching his brand new band, DARK CHAPEL.

Led by Lorina and also featuring Brody DeRozie (Guitar), Mike Gunn (Bass), and Luis Silva (Drums), the band’s airtight guitar-craft and sludgy grooves with magnetic melodies, bluesy phrasing, and grunge mystique are spotlighted on their debut album, Spirit in The Glass, which is due out February 28, 2025 on MNRK Heavy.

Dario’s gritty delivery on the song takes hold on a hypnotic hook, bleeding into a fret-burning lead punctuated by dramatic bends. “’Glass Heart’ is a lyrical and almost cinematic musical story that started with a riff and lyrically stemmed from emotion,” he reveals. “That emotion created an imagery for me that I began writing about as if that feeling was a painting I was writing to describe.”

Striking an elusive balance between dark and heavy, ethereal and passionate, Spirit in The Glass  is as Lorina describes, ““This is a culmination of all artistic influence, whether musical or otherwise.”

SEE ALL DARK CHAPEL MUSIC + MERCH HERE

Dario Lorina began his professional career in 2006 when he was 16 as the touring guitarist with the late Jani Lane (ex-Warrant). At 19, he joined veteran metal act Lizzy Borden whom he toured with for four years. He released two instrumental records with Mike Varney on Shrapnel Records in 2013 and 2017 titled, DARIO LORINA and DEATH GRIP TRIBULATIONS. On January 1, 2014 he joined Black Label Society and has since been touring worldwide alongside Zakk Wylde, performing on guitar, piano and backing vocals ever since. Lorina dueled solos with Wylde on Black Label Society's 2022 album DOOM CREW INC., and he joined Zakk Wylde on the January 2022 cover of Guitar World magazine.

“The guitar never really left my hands,” he laughs. Years of woodshedding followed. At 16 years old, he answered the call to audition for Jani Lane and found himself on the road with the ex-Warrant frontman shortly thereafter.

Until I Wake Drop "Messenger" Lyric Video

Buffalo quartet Until I Wake — new vocalist Justin Smith, alongside bassistRyan Ridley, guitarists August Geitner and Niko Karras, and drummer Alex Curtin — recently announced their new album Renovate. It arrives on December 6 via Fearless Records. Pre-order it here

On Renovate, the band has upped the ante, cranking all knobs to 11. Pummeling verses collide with soaring, arena-ready choruses, all of which are backed with percussion so immediate it could replace your own heartbeat and a relentless barrage of neck snapping riffs — the kind that hard rock fans can't get enough of. Until I Wake have leveled up every element of their sound, and are re-invigorated by the addition of new singer Smith. They've honed their live chops with nonstop touring, appeared at key festivals, such as Download, Welcome to Rockville, Upheaval, and more, and have garnered press praise from Blabbermouth, Outburn, Kerrang!, and Alternative Press while amassing millions of streams. Now armed with a killer sophomore album and their lineup cemented, Until I Wake are poised to become "ones to watch" in the hard rock scene.

Today, the band shared the lyric video for latest single "Messenger." Watch it below.

"'Messenger' is a story of faith in what we cannot see or understand," Smith states. "The feeling that something is watching over us and guiding us from pain to growth. I wrote this song based off of a dream that strongly influenced my life toward the path of music and my faith in God."

Until I Wake show off their moody side here. The band sprinkles hip-hop-inspired choruses and rhythms among its signature blend of molten metal, raging riffs, and alternately sung and screamed vocals. Fans of Linkin Park will find themselves magnetically attracted to UIW and "Messenger," which boasts a sick, galloping solo before a beautiful fade out.

LA Hard Rock Rising Stars S8NT ELEKTRIC Sign with Long Branch Records

Hard rock rising stars S8NT ELEKTRIC sign with Long Branch Records and release their new single "XTC".

Founded by frontwoman and powerful lead singer Bri Carbajal, and guitarist, songwriter, producer Niko Tsangaris, the band from Los Angeles, California, has toured Europe every summer, opening for artists like WolfmotherMammoth WVH, MC5Dirty Honey, and WARGASM, as well as playing huge festivals such as Bottlerock, Rockville, Prague Rocks, and Azkena Rocks. Everyone has heard the age old rock n’ roll cliche “Living on the edge,” but S8NT ELEKTRIC never quite fit into that stereotype. They’d rather live life “OFF THE EDGE,” pushing themselves to face their deepest fears and conquer their biggest dreams, all for the world to see on video. S8NT ELEKTRIC combines an adrenaline junkie attitude with honest songwriting. They’re a band about adventure, living life to its fullest, and expressing themselves unapologetically.

"XTC" is the first single off S8NT ELEKTRIC’s debut album “OFF THE EDGE'' which will be released in 2025.

Watch the Video for "XTC"

On the release of "XTC", guitarist Niko Tsangaris comments:

"I came up with the original melodies and lyrics for 'XTC' after the first time I did Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. I had always wanted to fight, but I always felt that I was 'too weak'. However that day I pushed through my fear and had my first class. I got my ass kicked, to say the least. But I left with such excitement and joy because I had finally conquered my fear. In the car, I put on the instrumental track and the first lyric that came out of me was 'I feel so alive'. That feeling of pushing past my own limitations was so freeing. And since the beginning of this year it has become our mission statement as a band, to live 'Off the Edge'. To take the leap into the unknown, to adventure, and to realize our true potential! So we figured the most fitting way to express that would be to skydive with all our bandmates for the music video. It was all of our first time and it was exhilarating! The first thing we all said when we got down was 'We have to do that again'! That is the exact feeling that we aim to capture with everything we do, and we’re only upping the anti from here."

Revnoir Share Video For New Track "Crève"

French rock and metal sensation Revnoir have released the video for their gripping new single, "Crève," continuing their exploration of dark, emotional themes.

Watch the video below. Stream the song here.

The song delves into the painful paradox of a toxic love, blending intense English and French lyrics that navigate the turmoil of feeling entrapped by someone destructive. "Crève" captures this raw, cathartic experience with vivid imagery and a visceral soundscape that mirrors the psychological torment of its narrative.

Revnoir's bold integration of rock, metal, and dark electro elements makes this track a profound statement on love's darker side, resonating with anyone who has felt the desperation of a fraught relationship. This release follows their successful first show in Paris and comes ahead of their anticipated European tour with Future Palace and Our Promise.

"For the next tracks, our goal is to make you feel like you're living through one of your nightmares," says the band. "These dark dreams often stem from everyday fears, and we aim to amplify those anxieties, turning them into something bigger and more intense. Each song will immerse you in a world where the lines between reality and fear blur, making you confront the deeper emotions lurking beneath the surface."

Blackened Death Metal Masters THULCANDRA Unleash Video Clip From Very First Live Album 'Live Demise'!

Following the release of their much-acclaimed, latest studio album 'Hail The Abyss' (released in May 2023 via Napalm Records HERE), blackened death metal frontrunners THULCANDRA have announced their first-ever live album, celebrating the first chapter and early days of the band!

'Live Demise' was recorded live in 2011 at a hometown show in Munich, Germany, and features true gems that the band hasn't performed in more than a decade, all with the original line-up consisting of Sebastian Ludwig, Tobias Ludwig, Matthias Landes (Dark Fortress, Noneuclid) and Steffen Kummerer (Obscura, Death, Cynic).

The Video Clip for "Fallen Angel's Dominion (Live)"

THULCANDRA’s rise to power ignited when the four-piece unleashed their debut album, 'Fallen Angel’s Dominion', upon metaldom in 2010. Followed by their 2011 masterpiece, 'Under a Frozen Sun', 'Live Demise' contains brutal-as-hell classics from both records, like "Black Flags Of Hate", "In Blood And Fire" and "The Spirit Of The Night", aptly capturing the spirit and high-voltage energy of both the crowd and band. Ragers such as "Night Eternal" and "Fallen Angel's Dominion" perfectly showcase the band's raw and intense performances in their early days, and prove how THULCANDRA has quickly stepped up as one of the leading bands of their genre!

Due to the pandemic, which was subsequently followed by their latest studio album 'Hail The Abyss', 'Live Demise' could not be released alongside THULCANDRA's 20th anniversary as originally planned. Now, with mixing and mastering by Dan Swanö (Katatonia, Edge Of Sanity, Dissection) and cover artwork designed by Herbert Lochner, this very special release will become available in only strictly limited editions exclusively via Napalm Records and atTHULCANDRA's upcoming live shows - including their European co-headlining run with legendary Swedish black and death metal band Sacramentum with support from Nephylim. The tour begins January 2025; find all upcoming dates listed below!

As a producer, Steve Powell is an expert at unearthing sonic magic, having recorded many notable artists records, including Michael Head and The Strands, John Power, def.fo, The Stairs and Ella Guru He also produced and played guitar on the first Michael Head and the Red Elastic Band record 'Arturius Revisited' and number one indie album 'Adios Senor Pussycat'.

“'Thornside Walk' was written in the darkest period of my life - a place filled with anger, confusion and sorrow. This was first time I was truly able to express my feelings through music and the beginning of The Wood creating music with real depth. 'Thornside Walk' serves to show that, even in our darkest hour, there lies resilience and hope. A true reflection of a moment in time and one of our proudest songs to date,” says Alex Evans.

Steve Powell adds, “This was the first song Alex and myself wrote together. It’s about being faced with the darkest of times, but there’s light at the end of the long tunnel. Allow yourself to embrace the joy life has to offer. Ultimately, it’s an uplifting song."

Last month, the band released the lead single 'Let It Loose' with a surreal video, filmed and edited by Dylan Cox at the Pro Flex Gym in Liverpool and featuring boxer Jake Harrison, along with a host of other shady characters.

The two met when Powell was blown away by Evans' voice while recording him at his Ark Recording Studios in Liverpool. From the outset, they realised they were creating music that was difficult to categorise yet somehow sounded familiar, meshing blue-eyed soul, southern and indie rock.

With Steve on guitar and bass, they enlisted several talented friends, including Martin Smith and Simon James (The Coral, Shack) on brass, and Jake Howden-Woodward (Nova Twins).

Alex Evans has a voice capable of turning real pain into raw beauty. Imbued with a rare natural soul, he leaps effortlessly from brooding, troubled depth to full-throated gospel glory as he leans in close to that groove. Together as The Wood, they create music of passion and pain, of glory and redemption. Songs where all the right decisions have been made, deliberate and slowly, without any external pressure, only the enriching pleasure of artistic collaboration.

As of November 8, 'Thornside Walk' is available everywhere online, including Bandcamp and Spotify. The 'Days' album is out November 22, accompanied by The Wood's album release show at Leaf - Bold Street in Liverpool on November 20 and December 6 show at A.R.C @ Camp&Furnace Liverpool.

Oxford's JODY & THE JERMS shares 'Winter Heart' feat. THE WONDERSTUFF violinist ERICA NOCKALLS

Jody and the Jerms round off 2024 with the fast-paced yet emotive single 'Winter Heart', a bittersweet song exploring loneliness and hope. Rich in melody with an epic and uplifting chorus, this track features an appearance by acclaimed violinist Erica Nockalls of The Wonder Stuff, The Proclaimers and one-half of the acoustic duo Miles Hunt & Erica Nockalls.

Jody and the Jerms is an Oxford-based sextet, made up of Jody Jeger (sings and lyrics), Salma Craig (harmonies and guitar), Niall Jeger (guitars), Rob Anwood (piano and synth), Steve Clark (drums and backing vocals), and Sam Hutchinson (bass).  Recorded in October 2024 at Send Hill Studios and produced by James Welch, the single was mastered by Tim Turan at Turan Audio in Oxford.

‘This is a story about never knowing where you stand in a relationship, unrequited love and the loneliness it brings. Someone has already moved on, and you’re naively hoping the Universe will bring you back together,” says Jody Jeger.

This has been quite the busy year for the band, who released their 'Different Skies' EPthis summer, garnering acclaim across the airways and print, and also toured throughout the UK and Sweden. With over 100 gigs behind them to date, Jody and the Jerms continue to build on a reputation as an an excellent live band with further dates to be announced in early 2025.

Three albums, two EPs and many singles into their career, Jody and the Jerms look forwrd to releasing their 14-track ‘Best Of’ album in spring of 2025, which will be available exclusively on limited edition coloured vinyl. Last year, the band released several singles and their 'Wonder' album, which was produced, mixed and mastered by RIDE legend Mark Gardener at his OX4 Sound studio near Oxford.

Championed by the late Janice Long at BBC, among others, Jody and the Jerms is a six-piece revolving around Jody Jeger (vocals) and Niall Jeger (guitars and vocals). Jody had never sung or been in a band before the Jerms formed in 2019, although Niall had been in 00s Oxford trio The Anydays, who graced the pages of NME, played with Radiohead and Supergrass, and were featured by Mark Radcliffe at BBC Radio 2.

Jody and the Jerms create endearing jangle-pop songs that are both evocative and relatable. Formed in Oxford in 2019, they have been writing, recording and performing their blend of melodic and uplifting indie/ alt rock ever since, having enjoyed national airtime on Radio X (UK), Sirius XM (USA) and RTVE (Spain), as well as BBC 6 Music, BBC Introducing, BBC Wales and BBC Ulster.

As of November 8, 'Winter Heart' can be found on fine music platforms, including Spotify, Apple Music and Bandcamp. Jody and the Jerms will be staying close to home for the next few months with a string of Oxfordshire shows.

LA-based Tombstones In Their Eyes shares 'In Your Eyes', previewing 'Asylum Harbour' LP

West coast psychedelic rock outfit Tombstones In Their Eyes presents their new single 'In Your Eyes', the final single from their 'Asylum Harbour' album, out November 19 via Kitten Robot Records, an album that pulls past the pain, numbness and chaos reflected on their previous album 'Sea of Sorrow'.

Based in Los Angeles, Tombstones In Their Eyes is made up of long-time members John Treanor (vocals & guitar), Stephen Striegel (drums), Courtney Davies (vocals) , Phil Cobb (guitar) and Paul Boutin (guitar), along with new band members Joel Wasko (bass) and Clea Cullen (vocals).

The band earlier shared the singles 'Sweet as Pie', 'I'm Not Like That', and the latest and heaviest - 'I Like to Feel Good', the video for which oscillates between electrified stage performances and scenes from a chilled drive through LA, reflecting the transformation inherent in its lyrics about how one's inner strength and individuality can be a catalyst for positive change.

Recorded at Kitten Robot Studios in Los Angeles and  co-produced by John Treanor, this album was produced and engineered by Paul Roessler (45 Grave, Twisted Roots, The Screamers, Nina Hagen), also known for his work with Josie Cotton, Hayley and the Crushers and Gitane Demone.

"'In Your Eyes' is a great example of TITE’s current obsession with vocal harmonies. When I brought the demo to Paul Roessler at Kitten Robot Studio, we listened to the isolated vocal tracks and we were both amazed. I think there were eight tracks of vocals that I had done at home and it sounded like Beach Boys style harmonies and layering. We then proceeded to recreate those in the studio and even add more," explains John Treanor.

"The song also features a diseased sounding lead from guitarist Phil Cobb, which is a great counterpoint to all the prettiness. Lyrically, the song is almost cheerful for us, no doom, depression, fighting against yourself or the world. The verses are all about letting go and giving in to love. The choruses are a pleading for inclusion."

Tombstones In Their Eyes began a decade ago through demo-swapping between two childhood friends separated by geography (Treanor in LA and James Cooper in NYC). It soon grew into a full-fledged band and a healthy stream of expansive music that is laced with fuzzed out psychedelic majesty. For Treanor, writing and performing is a way to deal with anxiety and depression, to speak about a subject without being the centre of the conversation, and to express oneself in a subliminal way rather than directly. TITE's music looks out into the universe as much as it looks inward toward the soul.

Named after a maritime phrase for a safe place to wait out a storm, 'Asylum Harbour' is an album of resurfacing, reflecting a new phase of healing after re-emerging from the pandemic. Treanor shares, "The album has been ready for some time, so it’s a relief to get it out.... Now we get to go out and play the songs from the new record live."

'In Your Eyes' is available exclusively via Bandcamp, where the full 'Asylum Harbour' album can be pre-ordered now. On November 18, this record will be released on CD, snazzy red vinyl and digitally everywhere, including Spotify, Apple Music and Bandcamp

Defeated Sanity Premiere New Playthrough with Sick Drummer

Few bands in the halls of metal have marched to a beat that's more brazen, brutal and bizarre than Defeated Sanity. Thirty years after their flaming, cataclysmic demo, the underground legends have repeatedly slammed death metal on its deformed skull. Each member is a certified lunatic when it comes to breaking brains with their fine-tuned instruments, but the band's punishing headiness is led by drummer Lile Gruber, their fleet-footed co-founder and singular mastermind.

"Lile's drumming can be described by his band's appropriately chosen name", Black Dahlia Murder drummer Alan Cassidy told Loudwire. "When you hear one of their songs for the first time you quickly become mentally exhausted with all the twists and turns of his extremely technical and groove-oriented playing".

Whether he's flaying his snare, pinging between cymbals, pounding out blast beats or riding a colossal groove, Lile ensures that Defeated Sanity's new album flows like a never-ending stream of filth. To gear up for Chronicles of Lunacy, Sick Drummer are premiering a new drum playthrough of the band's latest single. It's still plenty twisted, but "Accelerating the Rot" now stands as one of the fastest songs in their torrid history.

Watch Lile rip through "Accelerating the Rot” for Sick Drummer.

Chronicles of Lunacy comes out November 22 on Season of Mist.

KORPIKLAANI - Release Video For 'Sauna', The English Version Of Their Song 'Saunaan'

Finnish Folk Metal Superstars KORPIKLAANI have released a video for the song 'Sauna', which is an English version of the first single from their latest album, Rankarumpu

KORPIKLAANI's twelfth studio album Rankarumpu is classic folk metal - fast, energetic and dynamic, showing once again they are the leaders in this genre. The fast paced, violin-driven and playful folk metal tune 'Sauna' is one of the finest examples of KORPIKLAANI's staggering virtuosity. With its irresistable lead melody and a chorus for the ages, 'Sauna' should fill any fan of the genre with pure delight.

Samuli Mikkonen (drums) commented:
"We’ve have played 'Saunaan' on every show after it was released and it has become a banger! Now it was about time to make an English version so everybody can understand our tribute to Finnish sauna culture. The message is simple:
'Sauna! To party is not a crime
Your worries will burn like a pine!'
"

Korpiklaani will embark on an extensive GSA tour with In Extremo and Rauhbein on November 15th.

The Veer Union Share Team With Silent Theory for "Welcome To Dystopia?"

The Veer Union have teamed up with Silent Theory for the release of the title track to their upcoming album, “Welcome To Dystopia”.  The song is the 3rd single from the themed LP, and is the follow up to recent hits “Empirical” and “Is This How It Ends”.

“Welcome To Dystopia” is a socially conscious melodic metal song about the chaotic state of the world, fueled by rapidly advancing technology. It features propulsive guitars and thunderous drums with a relentless heavy rhythm that never lets up.

The Veer Union says “For the past 40 years, technological advancements in robotics have integrated into our daily lives. As governments worldwide hasten to incorporate robotics into military and law enforcement uses, it is crucial for humanity to remain vigilant and informed about the capabilities, potential consequences and the agendas of those in charge of these technologies. The situation is both awe-inspiring and alarming. When Silent Theory agreed that they were in on this track we were so stoked! When we got into the studio with them there vibe was amazing and when Dakota started throwing down his parts, we knew this was gonna be something special. Working with Dakota and the Silent Theory boys was an honor and a pleasure”.

Dakota Jerns of Silent Theory adds “This song feels like a statement from the point of view of a spectator watching the world burn. When I heard Crispin's parts, I took them as someone not recognizing the world they once knew and reluctantly coming to terms with this new reality. I wanted to write my parts from the perspective of someone who couldn't wait for society to collapse. Mirroring that reluctance with willingness. We sat down and worked these parts out together and when we come together in that final chorus, it's as if those two ideas merge and I really like that”.

Ray Hawthorne Returns with Humor & Heartbreak: “Ray Hawthorne Sucks” Out Now!

Defying expectations, Ray Hawthorne has returned - breaking new ground with humor and self-deprecation with the release of his latest album, "Ray Hawthorne Sucks." Known for his bold and emotive style, Hawthorne takes an unexpected, playful turn with Muppet-inspired elements scattered throughout the album, adding a surreal twist that injects levity into his cathartic lyrics. Fans can dive into to the new album HERE and pick up a limited-edition vinyl HERE.

Alongside today's long-awaited album release, Hawthorne has dropped the music video for "Flatline", a cinematic nod to his debut single,"EMERGENCY (feat. Kellin Quinn)." Set once again in the iconic bedroom that started it all, the video for "Flatline" is a treasure trove of Easter eggs that tell a layered story of his evolution all while featuring Muppet-inspired antics. Fans can watch the bittersweet new video below.

Speaking on today's video release, Ray Hawthorne shares:

"The Flatline music video is like your favorite rom-com if all the characters were actually puppets, and instead of falling in love they do drugs. No matter what you were expecting the Flatline music video to be, I can guarantee this was not it. Also, Kermit only showed up for the orgy scene. What a diva."

Furthering his excitement of his new album release, Ray continues:

"Are you looking for some random guy to spill his heart into mediocre pop punk music? Then THIS is the album for you! Wanna hear songs that sound like they should have been downloaded on Limewire in 2005? Then THIS is the album for you! Did you grow out of your emo phase only to realize life gets way more emo once you start paying taxes? Then THIS is the album for you! Did you ever get scared to walk into a Hot Topic so you just hung out at Orange Julius instead and made fun of posers but you were really just projecting because you thought you were the real poser? Then THIS is the album for you! Do you think Ray Hawthorne sucks? Then THIS. IS. THE. ALBUM. FOR. YOU."

Renowned for his work in North Kingsley, the acclaimed project alongside Shavo Odadjian of System of a Down, Hawthorne initially captured hearts as the Heartbreak Hero with his inaugural solo release "Heartbreak Feels Good in a Place Like This". However, his latest release, "Ray Hawthorne Sucks", shows a more introspective side of Hawthorne - one that channels sarcasm, raw emotion, and brutal honesty into a genre-blurring sound that’s distinctly his own.

While his work in North Kingsley and his debut EP showcased a different persona, Hawthorne’s latest solo venture shatters expectations, leaning into the pounding drums, distorted guitars, and chaotic energy. "Ray Hawthorne Sucks" is a self-aware, tongue-in-cheek title, but it’s also a reflection of the album’s themes—self-criticism, resilience, and emotional vulnerability. Packed with explosive anthems, the album strays from the cinematic, heartfelt tones of "Heartbreak Feels Good In A Place Like This", plunging listeners into a grittier side of post-punk, hardcore, and Hawthorne’s emo roots.

Be sure to to stay tuned for more new music from Ray Hawthorne coming very soon.

ABOUT RAY HAWTHORNE

Ray Hawthorne is basically an emo Muppet. His life revolves around pop culture references, Ninja Turtles action figures, and his dog named Oliver. Oliver laid on Ray’s feet during the recording of every song on his forthcoming album “Ray Hawthorne

Sucks”. This was mostly a positive experience, but there’s a particular section during the song “Panic Mode” where Ray had to yell “HEY HEY HEY HEY” over and over again. This made Oliver very tense, and he thought he was being scolded. Ray felt really bad for confusing Oliver in such a way. After the recording was done treats were had by all, and all was well.
