AUSTIN MEADE Shares Title Track for New EP 'PRETTY LITTLE WAIST' via Snakefarm NOW!

Texan rocker AUSTIN MEADE brings together all his recent singles into one fresh EP, 'PRETTY LITTLE WAIST.' Released via Snakefarm , the EP arrives alongside the brand-new single of the same name.

About "PRETTY LITTLE WAIST," MEADE comments:

"The main guitar riff was a regular sound check jam for a few months straight out of Willie’s brain. I was pumped to arrange it into a full song and push the limits on how heavy we could make the track feel. Kile Odell (producer) and Keith Wallen (Breaking Benjamin) helped us push the envelope there. I threw in quite a few lyrics intentionally referencing back to the 'Abstract Art' record. It was intriguing to play with the ‘waste of time’ and view of a ‘pretty little waist’ all within the same song. I love to hear the wide range we have been able to cover sonically from my original records up to this point. This is the heaviest headbanger we’ve released to date."

MEADE will be announcing his Christmas tour during the second week of November. 2025 tour dates will be announced shortly as well!

Thanks to his metal and classic-rock-loving dad, MEADE got to see bands like Judas Priestand he worshipped Whitesnake. In junior high, he related to the intense emo-rock of Paramore and Fall Out Boy, and the power of songwriters like John Mayer.

Yet, with gratitude to plainspoken but deep heartland songwriters like Tom Petty, and cutting his teeth touring in the Texas and Oklahoma Red Dirt scene, MEADE’s music overflows with wide-open soulfulness. He was a drummer for years, even teaching to pay the bills, but MEADE found his true voice when he began playing guitar as a teen in his pastor father’s church. Those experiences lend both a gravitas and rebelliousness to MEADE’s songs and self.

Now the frontman of his band and slinging guitar licks with expert precision, his music rolled out with two releases in 2014, his first EP 'Long Ways To Go' followed by his first full-length album 'Chief Of The Sinners.' His next EP 'Heartbreak Coming' came in 2016 with a couple of singles to announce his commencement on the Texas Music Chart, followed by his second full-length album 'Waves' in 2019. In 2021, MEADE introduced his third LP 'Black Sheep' including the hit tracks "Happier Alone," "Cave In," "Dopamine Drop," and "Deja Vu." MEADE released his fourth LP 'Abstract Art Of An Unstable Mind' in the Fall of 2022, further showcasing his ability to seamlessly blend genres into a groovy yet piercingly fresh sound of rock 'n' roll.

"Our first song, 'Chemicals,' was about coping in an unhealthy way," the band says. "'Slip Away' is the natural progression of that. It's the next part of the story. It's losing yourself in your habits until you become unrecognizable. It's the pain when you come-to. It's self awareness and it's hurt.
'Slip Away' is struggle you face when you meet yourself where you're at. It's the pain when you look in the mirror honestly. It's a rude awakening."
 
The band continues, "When we wrote the video for 'Slip Away,' it was important to tell the story of the song, whereas 'Chemicals' was more a day-in-the-life sort of video. You have this person, bound to the injured version of themselves, connected as one and confined to a space they can't escape. They separate and see their hurt before them. The bandages come off and it's loud, it's vulnerable... it's unpredictable. Only through acceptance and embrace can they find peace, but even still, in a space they'll never leave."

Tulipomania presents 'I've Been Told - Absolution', a mutual artistic echo with author Jeff VanderMeer

Philadelphia-based art-rock duo Tulipomania are back with 'I've Been Told - Absolution', the first offering from their sixth album 'Absolution', inspired by an invitation from acclaimed author Jeff VanderMeer to contribute music as part of the publication of his latest novel 'Absolution', the surprise fourth volume in his award-winning 'Southern Reach' series.

With a pressingly mournful urgency, this single's soundscape resonates with the complex energies enveloping VanderMeer’s novel, the author having invited the duo to create music inspired by 'Absolution' while still a work in progress. Hearing that VanderMeer took inspiration for the 'Absolution' novel from their 'Dreaming of Sleep' album, the duo enthusiastically accepted the challenge.

Alternately categorized as cult synth punks, glam-leaning, post-punk, art-rock and muscular chamber pop, Tulipomania is Tom Murray (lead vocals, synthesizer, electronic percussion) and Cheryl Gelover (synthesizer, background vocals) – they first began their collaboration through projects for experimental film and animation classes. Tulipomania evolved from those experiences. The original mix of 'Dreaming of Sleep'. It felt like a revelation - hypnotic, pulsing music that got deep hooks into my brain, so I couldn't stop listening to the songs. Like a lighthouse's roving light, the songs felt like a beacon, and the recursive nature of the composition, the sense of a beating heart, a thick muscle at the core of them, combined with the surreal lyrics got deep into the novel's DNA. ... So I was really pleased that this opportunity for this wonderful contamination of (novel / album) to go the other way - the Absolution remix of 'Dreaming of Sleep', with four new Absolution tracks! I really love this band so much - to the point I've listened to and recommend their entire back catalogue - that it's an honor."

“It is a thrill to know that our music and lyrics were an inspiration for Jeff VanderMeer while he was working on his latest novel Absolution," says Tom Murray.

A sign of serendipity, the cover for this album was created by acclaimed artist Pablo Delcan, who also produced the artwork for the 10th anniversary editions of the Southern Reach Trilogy.

“Having the author crowned the ‘weird Thoreau’ entrust us with early versions of his newest novel Absolution was enormously enticing – knowing that he believed we could return with him to the world of Area X for the purpose of a cross-pollination is very exciting," Cheryl Gelover.

"We’re so glad we emerged from the journey with alternate versions of the ten tracks that originally inspired him, as well as four entirely new songs directly inspired by our immersion in the Southern Reach series and the latest novel in the series - Absolution.  It is quite an honor to share a title on our new album with Jeff's latest.”

Jeff VanderMeer fondly describes the animated video for 'I've Been Told - Absolution': "The dreamlike immersion in imagery from the novel creates a hypnotic and perfect effect for both a beautiful dirge and surge of a song and the atmosphere for Absolution. Gorgeous and evocative".  Shot frame by frame, utilizing multiple processes, including thermal printing, to create layered textures, the video features stop-motion animated objects (some frames vibrantly hand-tinted) and glimpses of the duo singing the lyrics. This exploration of various states of disintegration, painstakingly assembling thousands of individual images, evokes Absolution’s themes of dissolution and disorientation.

Described as ‘artistic and inventive’ and ‘gorgeous', Tulipomania's animated music videos have been featured in film festivals worldwide, including the Leeds International Film Festival (UK), StopTrik (Croatia, Poland), AniFilm (Czech Republic) and Tallgrass International Film Festival (USA).

On ‘Absolution', Tulipomania is immersed fully in electronic means of creation – the exception being a sole accent played on electric guitar on the last track. This record involves Executive Producer Howard Thompson, renowned as a record industry executive (Elektra, Island, Almo Sounds), credited for having discovered and / or worked with Adam and the Ants, Billy Bragg, MC5, Mötorhead, PiL, Psychedelic Furs, Robyn Hitchcock, The Sugarcubes and Suicide, among others.

On October 31, ‘I’ve Been Told - Absolution’ will be released via fine music platforms, including Spotify, Apple Music and Bandcamp, where the ‘Absolution' album (out November 29 on CD, vinyl and digitally via Sursumcorda Records) is available for pre-order.

Much like it's predecessor, "Family" which was released last month, the raw intensity of “Money and Greed” is fueled by the creative synergy of legendary producer, Ross Robinson and Slipknot's Sid Wilson. This new era of Swollen Teeth, and their debut full-length album, which will be released in 2025, marks the first project where the two have joined forces as co-producers. New Video Alert: Texas Hippie Coalition - "Bones Jones"

Texas rockers TEXAS HIPPIE COALITION release the hilariously entertaining animated video for their recently released track, "Bones Jones."  The video was directed by musician Edsel Dope and co-directed by David Perada, and animated by Makinita Silva.  The video tells the crazy story of the character Bones Jones, with the heavy riffs on the tracks setting the manic mood. 
 
“In our hometown, there was a guy named ‘Bones’," says Ritch. "He was about six-foot-seven-inches tall like Lurch from The Addams Family. I’d get weed from him, but he sold everything you could think of. Just weed for me though,” he chuckles.

Donella Drive Release New Single “Simian Transmission” + Animated Video ​

San Antonio-based alternative rock band Donella Drive has just released their latest single, "Simian Transmission", alongside an animated video. "Simian Transmission" is available now on all streaming platforms, and the music video can be found on Donella Drive’s official YouTube channel.

Aidan Escalante describes the meaning behind “Simian Transmission”:

"The song 'Simian Transmission' is the first single from their upcoming full length album “AXON” set for a February 2025 release. 'Simian Transmission' delves into themes of mental chaos and societal disconnection. It portrays a sense of frantic expression and inner turmoil, with imagery of static and fragmented signals reflecting a struggle to find clarity. The repeated emphasis on 'failure' highlights feelings of defeat and hopelessness. The title suggests a primal form of communication that has been disrupted, symbolizing a loss of connection and isolation. Overall, the lyrics explore the search for meaning in a chaotic world."

Andrew Salazar comments on the making of the video:

"Aidan discovered the artwork of James Quigley, aka Gunsho, through the hip hop group Malibu Ken, a project by Aesop Rock and Tobacco. Other artists Gunsho has done work for include the likes of Ozzy Osbourne and Andrew W.K. Intrigued by his unique style, Aidan reached out to Gunsho online, and they immediately hit it off. Gunsho then created the artwork for the video and collaborated with his friend Peter Karpick, a former creative director for Adult Swim and freelance designer who brought the images to life through animation. This collaboration resulted in a music video that we feel, perfectly complements the mood of the song."

Combining elements of alternative metal, post hardcore, and progresssive rock, San Antonio outliers Donella Drive cannot be categorized by a singular label. Consisting of Aidan Escalante (lead vocals/guitar), Andrew Salazar (bass), Steven Rodriguez (Drums). Donella Drive has expanded upon the previous boundaries of their work since their inception in 2012.

Brothers Escalante and Salazar originally formed the band with the desire to create a sonically engaging music that pushed the rock medium in a new direction. In 2015, Donella Drive released their first album Anomalous, followed by Diy tours, opening for legendary acts such as Megadeth, Deftones, and Scorpions. The band has also toured and supported contemporary bands such as Dead Poet Society, The Callous Daoboys, Protest The Hero, Hail the Sun , He Is Legend, Scary Kids Scaring Kids, and more.

Noteworthy changes such as Escalante’s shift to lead vocals, amplified their sound and led them to create Bloomer in 2020.  Donella Drive remains tenacious in challenging themselves in their pursuit to elevate their music and diverge from commercial endeavors, which is evident in their EP release, Ozell, and the work on their first full length album “AXON” they are currently producing. Their single “Keep You Waiting” peaked at #24 on The Billboard Rock Indicator chart as well as peaking at #10 on The Foundations Chart. The band was also a finalist for The Battle For Wacken Festival and performed at The Viper Room in West Hollywood in 2022.

This is the same line-up that appeared on the previous album 'Saints And Sinners' however they are now definitely more gelled and have produced a more focused and extremely ambitious new album with no weak points.

HOUSE OF LORDS stands for superb hooks and majestic atmospheres that bring back the memories of their stellar debut album, monumental guitar riffs, and a production to die for. HOUSE OF LORDS debuted in 1989 with the release of their self-titled album, a record that is still regarded as one of the best arena rock releases of the 1980s. The colossal sound, the soaring vocals of Christian, and the instrumental capabilities of the band (which featured ex-Angel and Giuffria keyboardist Gregg Giuffria, along with luminaries Lanny Cordola, Chuck Wright, and Ken Mary), were reminiscent of such frontrunners as Whitesnake, Deep Purple and Van Halen and immediately brought the band to the attention of the mainstream music media and the masses of '80s hard rock fans.

With their sophomore release, 'Sahara,' HOUSE OF LORDS had considerable radio and video chart success with their cover of Blind Faith's "Can't Find My Way Home." After a tour with Nelson in 1991, the group disbanded, eventually coming back together with a new lineup (featuring original members Giuffria and Christian) in 1992 with "Demon's Down." With the change in musical climate at the time, HOUSE OF LORDS hibernated until the original lineup came back together in 2000, releasing the controversial "Power And The Myth," an album that featured a sound leaning more towards progressive hard rock with '70s rock influences.

After a short European tour, Christian decided to go back to the trademark arena rock sound of HOUSE OF LORDS, putting together a new lineup with the blessing of founding member Giuffria, who opted out right before the release of "Power And The Myth." New members Jimi Bell on guitars and B.J. Zampa on drums supplied a true powerhouse sound to the fifth studio album, "World Upside Down,' a record that caused a real stir in the hard rock and melodic rock scenes. That album was followed up by the equally impressive "Come To My Kingdom" in 2008, "Cartesian Dreams" in 2009, "Big Money" in 2011, "Precious Metal" in 2014, and "Saint Of The Lost Souls" in 2017.

HOUSE OF LORDS have toured relentlessly in Europe and the States in support of their releases and are a true staple of the hard rock scene on both continents.

VISION VIDEO unveils enchanting 'Let Go of Time' video from new 'Modern Horror' album

Post-punk outfit Vision Video presents has unveiled their new video for 'Let Go of Time', their fourth single from their 'Modern Horror' album. Diving headlong into the viscera of atrocity that we see in our modern world, this 11-track offering was preceded by the singles 'Stay', 'In My Side (Modern Horror Version)' and 'Dead Gods', a scathing critique of those who use dogma and ideology to justify violence and authoritarianism.

Having just won the 2024 Fangoria Chainsaw Awards Editor's Eyeball Award, Vision Video has been announced as part of the lineup for the Sick New World Festival in Las Vegas. There's good reason that the band's output has been dubbed "Dance Music for the End-Times".

Formed in Athens, GA in 2020 by Dusty Gannon, whose character videos featuring "Goth Dad" have won the hearts of hundreds of thousands of followers, and Emily Fredock, Vision Video creates intense and uncompromising goth rock with a message. Injecting malaise into classic post-punk and new wave, this is refreshingly modern while paying homage to artists like the Chameleons and the Cure.

For this album, the band worked with Grammy Award-winning producer Ben Allen (Erasure, Animal Collective, Washed Out, Deerhunter), who recorded and mixed this album at Maze Studios in Atlanta. Mastered at Abbey Road Studios by Frank Arkwright (The Smiths, New Order, Joy Division, Primal Scream, Blur, Mogwai), this album features cover artwork by Ryan Dunn

"I wrote 'Let Go of Time' not long after I was diagnosed with PTSD. I was watching my favorite vampire film (the incredible Jim Jarmusch's 'Only Lovers Left Alive') and I found myself feeling a lot of parallels to how the character Adam (played by Tom Hiddleston) felt about the world - having to endure for so long, but always feeling less and less purpose because of this diminishing luster of things," says Dusty Gannon.

"I think that film, and ultimately this song is about finding purpose, joy and love when it is most difficult to find those things in life. It's about the endurance of love when you have someone that will give everything to spend time with you, to be present with you when you are not well. I'm really fortunate to have that in my life with my partner Scarlet. She has seen me in my lowest moments and my darkest hours and she is still there, always kind and loving and pushing me up to the light."

'Modern Horror' goes to darker and acidic places than earlier releases, leaning into Gannon’s experiences as an anti-war Afghanistan veteran and former firefighter-paramedic and drawing attention to the systematic disenfranchisement and seeming hopelessness of current world circumstances. An unrelenting exposition on real-world horrors, this record warns against further war and brutality.

'Modern Horror' maintains its grit under the nails. Charged with anger and frustration, it does not lose its sense of direction or its listenability. The guitar work is fierce and dissonant, but still melodic. Vocally and lyrically, Gannon belts and cries out in a pleading, yet controlled manner. Emily Fredock, utilizing vintage synths, creates gorgeous and haunting melodies that remain in your head well after the record stops, while newcomer Ryan Houchens’ drumming gives new energy to the band with a keen sense of ferocity.

Vision Video's first two albums 'Inked in Red' (2021) and 'Haunted Hours' (2022) - both recorded and mixed by Tom Ashton of The March Violets - were met with critical praise, with Pitchfork calling their music "tailor-made for the sort of wallflower who sprints to the dancefloor the instant the DJ drops 'Age of Consent' or 'Primary' at Goth Night". Vision Video has made the covers of Auxiliary Magazine and Fangoria Magazine. To date, they've completed eight major tours in North America, the UK and Europe.

The 'Modern Horror' album is out now, available on vinyl and everywhere digitally, including Spotify, Apple Music and Bandcamp.  Vision Video will be touring their new album throughout autumn and winter, kicking off in Berlin on November 26. Dead Icarus release debut album 'Zealot' today

Dead Icarus, the new band of former Atreyu lead vocalist and Gold-selling artist Alex Varkatzas, as well as Gabe Mangold of Enterprise Earth and Brandon Zackey, have officially released their debut album ZEALOT today, October 31, via MNRK HEAVY.

Produced and co-written by Mangold, ZEALOT is a precise and pummeling execution of airtight technical riffs, miles of solos, blast beat assault and battery, and screamed, growled, and sung vocals.

"Zealot is the culmination of our unyielding, fanatical belief. We set out to create a dynamic, multi-faceted record that incorporated everything we love about music. It's heavy, it's melodic, it's angry, it's hopeful, it has riffs and hooks but above all it's sincere and comes from purely from our heart and minds. No outside interference. Happy Halloween! Dorothy Drops Video For New Single "Devil I Know"

The raven-haired rock star from Los Angeles, DOROTHY, returned this summer, with the scorching new single "MUD." She rode in on a black horse, equipped with leather and signature red lip, the rock world will once again be schooled in the undeniable chemistry that is alive and well amongst metal and rock loyalists and country badasses. A musical outlaw through and through, Dorothy's new single is a display of raw, full-bodied vocal power complimented by heavy-hitting instrumentation and riffs galore. Dark rock outfit SÉANCE OF SORROW are treating fans to a special Halloween release in the form of a music video. The band pays homage to the iconic Chris Cornell by covering AUDIOSLAVE's 'Like A Stone'. 

The band uses music as their medium to communicate with the mortal world. Acting as a conduit between the realm of the living and the realm of the dead, his mournful melodies tell their story. For the cover, the band wanted to create a darker and somber interpretation of the AUDIOSLAVE classic, The track was engineered, mixed, and mastered by Josiah Wiswell. 

SÉANCE OF SORROW's Michael Morrison comments, "Audioslave released their debut album 22 years ago. When I first heard Like A Stone, it sent chills through my body. The subtle delivery of morbid lyrics combined with Chris Cornell's vocal mastery left a lasting impression on me. Eager to keep the rock flowing, February 16th, 2024 saw THE HELLACOPTERS release not one, but two stunning versions of their classic Grande Rock album, which was originally released in 1999. Grande Rock Revisited included a remastered original version and a remixed and partially re-recorded version showing how the album could have sounded in a parallel universe with guitarist Dregen being in the band at the time. After making rock grande again, the group set sights on new material, debuting the phenomenal single 'Stay With You'  in May 2024 and releasing it as limited 7inch via Lightning Records.

LUCIFER - Release Cover Of Leonard Cohen Song 'Who By Fire' Feat. Bobby Liebling (PENTAGRAM)

Just one week before embarking on the second leg of their 2024 'Satanic Panic' European Tour and right on time for spooky season, heavy occult rock congregation LUCIFER have unveiled a stunning cover version of a song by by the late great Leonard Cohen. 'Who By Fire' features none other than doom metal legend Bobby Liebling of PENTAGRAM as a duet partner for Johanna Platow Andersson. Witness two generations of occult rock and doom metal joining forces for a unique take on this classic tune from 1974.

"Growing up with Leonard Cohen's music, as my mother was a passionate fan, I have always been profoundly touched by his lyrics and of course especially gravitated towards this extremely haunting death theme. Bobby Liebling and I have been talking about collaborating for quite a few years now. When I knew I wanted Lucifer to cover "Who By Fire", Bobby was the perfect one to interpret this very eerie song and I am so glad he said yes. Being a huge Pentagram fan, this is quite something for me! We are extremely pleased how 'Who By Fire' turned into a Lucifer song and Halloween was the perfect occasion to release this morbid work."


LUCIFER will continue their successful 2024 'Satanic Panic' European Tour next week, and once again they're being joined by German rising stars, The Night Eternal. The tour package will be completed by US heavy metal band Tanith, which features Russ Tippins (original guitar player of NWOBHM legends SATAN) on guitar and vocals. Since its inception in 2014 In Berlin, the highly prolific band led by charismatic singer Johanna Platow Andersson has released four electrifying albums on Rise Above (LUCIFER I) and Century Media Records (LUCIFER II-IV), as well as and numerous stand-alone singles infused with 1970s hard rock, proto heavy metal, doom and occult rock, with a nod to their main influences such as Black Sabbath, Pentagram & Blue Öyster Cult. They have played over 250 shows in the Europe, Japan, North & South America, including festivals such as KISS Kruise, Psycho Las Vegas, Hellfest, Wacken and many more, most recently supporting the band GHOST on their European tour in spring 2023. Manchester post-punk / death-rock stalwarts Inca Babies unleash 'Ghost Mechanic 9' single

Manchester post-punk death-rock rockers Inca Babies present ‘Ghost Mechanic 9’,the title track and second single from their ninth studio album 'Ghost Mechanic Nine'. A driving blast of a guitar song, this song is a powerful indication of the flavour of the album as a whole, the sound owing more to the Incas' early music as Harry Stafford revisits the raw guitar sounds of their 80s output. Earlier, they released the lead track 'Spacewalk', a timeless Rockabilly groove inspired by Link Wray, Alan Vega and Brian Setzer (but set in a Sci-Fi space opera), together with the B-side 'Monster In The Deep'.

Today, Inca Babies is made up of Harry Stafford (guitar, keys, vocals), Rob Haynes(drums, percussion), Jim Adama (bass) and Kevin G. Davy (trumpet). This will be their first release in three years, following their 2021 album ‘Swamp Street Soul’. Continuing their explosive exploration of goth, punk and death-rock jazz-blues, this album explores the essence of the 80s death-rock vibe, with a tribute to the strong riffing and cool, dead-pan delivery of the dark wave scene at the time. 

With its singular hypnotic bass rhythm, 'Ghost Mechanic 9' could have fit neatly on their 1986 album ‘Opium Den’ . But those days of analogue imprecision are behind us and, with Simon ‘Ding’ Archer (The Fall, PJ Harvey) at the controls, there is still a contemporary zing to the production and a snap to the overall sound. Recorded at 6Db Studios in Salford, Archer and Stafford recorded and mixed this album over two years, with with 'Ding' also contributing serious sonic and dub flourishes. Marco Butcher subsequently mastered this record at his Boombox studio in North Carolina.

This collection of darkly invigorating tunes,album visits a similar place to where Inca Babies started in the 80s with their psychobilly trash rock, reconnecting with their roots, where The Gun Club and The Cramps met, the intersection where Inca Babies found their most passionate and loyal following. This song is a calling card for the album, taking listeners back to a sound that is raw, spiky and reminiscent of their early days in the 80s.  

“This is a surging highway groove that drives us on into the night with a rumbling bass line. Driving for the sake of it; driving to escape. Headlights in the dark: red and blue dash lights; wondering why anyone but you is driving this late. The ghost on the highway, the grease-ball mechanic who says you’ll keep going for miles and miles. And all the numbers are the same. It’s number 9, the ninth album for Inca Babies and he first of nine songs on the album," says Harry Stafford.

Originally comprised of Harry Stafford, Bill Marten, Mike Keeble and Pete Bogg, Inca Babies began in 1983 in the now-legendary deck-access flats of Hulme in Manchester. Intended as executive ‘cities in the sky’, they quickly became cockroach-infested slums inhabited by students, artists and druggies. They released their 1984 debut single 'Interior' on their Black Lagoon label with an unusual sound for Manchester, which was then associated with Joy Division, Buzzcocks, The Fall and The Smiths. With a nod to their influences, Writer CP Lee dubbed them "the Hulme Cramps" for their Gothabilly twang.

A vibrant part of Britain's early postpunk / goth /death rock scene, they amassed a steady following through touring and by releasing a further six singles and four albums over the next five years, all of which entered the UK Indie Charts. They also recorded four sessions for BBC's legendary John Peel show between 1984 and 1988 before calling it quits that year.

Since reforming in 2007, they've released three albums and toured extensively around Europe, Russia, North America, India and beyond. Renewed interest in the Incas was propelled by Cherry Red Records 'Best of’ compilation release ‘Inca Babies 1983-87: Plutonium’. After Bill Marten's death in 2008, the band decided to continue creating music, subsequently releasing their Death Blues Album Trilogy - 'Death Message Blues' (2010), 'Deep Dark Blue' (2012) and 'The Stereo Plan' (2014).

'Ghost Mechanic 9' is available everywhere as of October 30, including Spotify, Apple Music and Bandcamp. On November 29, the ‘Ghost Mechanic Nine’ album will be released on vinyl and digitally, and can be pre-ordered via Bandcamp and the Louder Than War shop.

Cheatham County's Preston James Releases White Trash From Way Back EP on Friday

Twenty-four-year-old singer-songwriter Preston James is releasing his debut EP, White Trash from Way Back, Friday, Nov. 1 on all platforms . With his long hair, blonde scruff and dark eyes, the Cheatham County (Tenn.) native certainly looks the part, but it’s his soulful vocals and the storytelling quality of his lyrics that will convince you to put these tracks on your country/southern rock playlist. 

James, writer or co-writer on all but one track on White Trash—the high-octane, instrument-laden “Heartbreak’s on You” (Go on, break my heart; tear it up like a letter/Put the pieces on the burn pile; it’ll hurt, but I’ll feel better) featuring the song’s writers, Jaren Johnston and John Osborne—has previewed three singles off the EP for fans. In addition to “Heartbreak,” he has released “Fences” (written with Steve Moakler and EP producer Logan Wall), an autobiographical love letter detailing James’s relationship with his fiancée and fellow Season 11 Voice alum Charity Bowden, and his rowdy debut single, “Deal with the Devil,” written with Jason Saenz and Alex Kline. 

“Working with Preston over the course of this EP has been such a creative palate cleanser,” Wall says. “Preston is a massive talent on the rise, and I feel lucky to have been involved from the ground floor. As a producer, my role is always to make sure the artist’s voice is heard and their story is told truthfully.”

New cuts include the bittersweet, acoustic guitar–driven “Take Me Back” (written by James, Wall and Joybeth Taylor) and the solo-written title cut (I’ve never known nothing but them katydids buzzing some sad ol’ mountain sound/And the smell of that rock burning holes through my poor hometown…It’s where I’ll die when I’m old and feeble/I’m getting by fine with my white lightning still/Cause I’m White Trash from Way Back in these Tennessee hills). Every song showcases James’s passion for storytelling as he moves effortlessly from small-town love song to hillbilly headbanger, narrating the goings-on of rural life.

“White Trash from Way Back sums up me,” James says, “where I’m from and the music I love, in about 18 minutes. I hope y’all have as much fun listening as we did making it!” 

After being offered his first publishing deal at 18, James is carving out his place on the Row with this EP, signing with publishers King Pen Music and Warner Chappell Music and inking a booking deal with the Neal Agency, whose artist roster includes hitmakers Morgan Wallen, HARDY, Chase Rice and Riley Green, among others.

Brian Carothers and Evan Kantor, both agents with the Neal Agency, are firmly in James’s corner. “Preston is sitting on an unbelievable debut EP,” Carothers says. “I’ll never forget the day he played it for everyone here. The excitement in the room was special, and we’re all thrilled to be working with him.” Adds Kantor, “From the moment we heard the music, we were all sold on Preston’s talent. What’s been even more exciting is seeing how incredible his live show is. We are honored to be a part of bringing that to the masses.”

Clay Bradley, VP of Creative at BMI, the performance rights agency who represents James, is a longtime supporter. “I love Preston James. He is a natural born guitar picker [James plays electric and acoustic guitar on the EP], songwriter and a rising star in the industry who shows a maturity and insight far beyond his years.”

Kelly King, president of King Pen Music, agrees, saying, “As soon as I met Preston, I knew there was something special about him. His old soul way intrigued me, and his work ethic blew me away right off the bat. Once I saw him play live, I knew he was going to introduce a new edge to country music. I am so excited to see how country music embraces him the way he has embraced it all his life.” Producer Wall adds, “When it comes to White Trash from Way Back, Preston’s voice is loud and clear, and his story is undeniable.”
