Morgan Wallen at Neyland: National Champions+Eric Church Create Memorable Nt. 1

With “Welcome Home Morgan” signs and neon displays installed across the city in hotel lobbies, restaurants and bars, the anticipation of Morgan Wallen’s two nights at Neyland Stadium was palpable across Knoxville the days leading up to his homecoming. The East Tennessean matched their excitement from the jump as he charged down the gauntlet making his first-of-two weekend walk-outs flanked by the 2024 National Champion Tennessee Volunteers baseball team and Coach Tony Vitello – trophy in hand. Registering 114 decibels, the crowd of 70,000+ enthusiastically welcomed them all home.

Fans showed up early on Friday, Sept. 20 as gates opened at 4:30 pm, many donning orange and white, filling in both pits lining Wallen’s signature “MW” stage backed into the endzone.

The current 7-time CMA Award nominee opened his 26-song set with upbeat “Ain’t That Some” and “I Wrote The Book” before stating how monumental this weekend is for him.

After pausing to take the moment in, Wallen shared, “I really appreciate that warm welcome, that means a lot to me. The last time I was in this stadium I was watching Tennessee kick Alabama’s ass. I can't think of a better way to follow it up than to be here playing two sold-out shows this weekend. This is one of the most special days of my entire life and I’m very glad you guys chose to spend this weekend here with me – it means a lot.

“Before we get any further I want to make sure you make some noise for my band and crew who show up here early in advance to make sure we get to play the music y’all love. I have a lot of people here who mean a lot to me,” he added. “I’ve got my little boy here, both my grandmothers here, my mom, my dad, my sisters, my nieces. I have been very fortunate to do a lot of great things over the last few years, but I know that this right here is going to be extremely hard to top as one of the coolest things I’ve ever gotten to do. We’re gonna play a lot of songs tonight, I threw in a couple extra songs that I don’t normally play. I didn’t even ask about the curfew, so we’re just gonna play as long as we want to tonight.”

Wallen once again added his unreleased song “Love Somebody” to the setlist for the night, revealing its release date to fans from the stage. Pre-save “Love Somebody,” out Friday, Oct. 18, HERE. Twelve-songs-in, Wallen welcomed the first entertainer he ever saw in concert in his hometown, Eric Church, to his acoustic stage for the Dangerous cut “Quittin’ Time,” before being joined by  HARDY and ERNEST for “Up Down” and “Flower Shops”/“Cowgirls,” respectively, back on the main stage.

Over two hours in, the electrifying show came to an appropriate close with a full-fledged fireworks show as he concluded with “The Way I Talk,” and with the crowd repeating “I just live the way I talk.”

In anticipation of the run, The Morgan Wallen Foundation donated $140k to Gibbs Youth Sports (GYS) yesterday during a press conference held at Neyland Stadium. The donation will go toward renovating Ruritan Park, which serves students from Gibbs High School, where Wallen attended, and surrounding areas in Knox County, allowing GYS to rebuild the inside of the fieldhouse to offer indoor fielding and batting options for local recreation teams. Renovations include batting cages and machines, as well as pitching lanes and a fielding area. Currently there are no facilities like that in the Gibbs/Corryton area.

Wallen returns to Neyland this Sunday, Sept. 22 for a second sold-out show with HARDY and ERNEST.

In celebration of the release, the quartet dropped the official visualizer for their track "Mud" taken from the album. Speaking about the track, vocalist Matt Hunnycutt commented:

Reflections and thoughts mirroring a man’s will to survive in a world obsessed with extinction. Low-tech, primordial soundwaves. Sludge-covered, sun-blistered frequencies of war and peace. "Mud" is mankind."

SEVEN HOURS AFTER VIOLET Drop New Single/Music Video - "Alive"

Seven Hours After Violet, the groundbreaking heavy metal band fronted by Shavo Odadjian of System of a Down, has just dropped their electrifying new single, “Alive.” The track, which continues to showcase the band’s unique blend of heavy music and melodic sensibility, is available now on all major streaming platforms, accompanied by a stunning music video. Stream "Alive" HERE. Watch the official music video Below. Pre-Order the debut album, 'Seven Hours After Violet' HERE.

Alive” is the latest offering from the band’s highly anticipated self-titled debut album, set to release on October 11th, 2024, through 1336 Records, Shavo’s joint label venture with Sumerian Music Group. They exploded into existence back in June with the release of their debut single 'Paradise' garnering much praise and excitement from both fans and critics alike. "Paradise" was followed by second single, the gloriously ethereal "Radiance" last month, which showcased a different side of the band's arsenal and gave a glimpse of the incredible dynamism featured on their upcoming debut full-length. "Alive" furthers the unique sonic world building of Seven Hours After Violet.

Speaking on the project's third single, Shavo shares:

"Alive" dives deep into the duality of pain and vitality, where suffering becomes a twisted reminder of existence. It’s about the dark thrill of feeling alive through intense emotions, even when they blur the line between ecstasy and despair. A haunting space where agony and empowerment collide.”

Seven Hours After Violet is an alternative metal supergroup assembled by Shavo, featuring Taylor Barber (vocalist of Left to Suffer), Morgoth (multi-platinum producer and guitarist of Winds of Plague), Alejandro Aranda (Scarypoolparty and American Idol), and Josh Johnson (drummer of Winds of Plague). The band emerged from a chance encounter between Shavo and Morgoth in early 2022 and rapidly became an unstoppable force of creativity and experimentation that evolved from a potential solo project into a full-fledged band. Their upcoming self-titled debut album is the result of some of the best, most talented minds in heavy music coming together to create something limitless and exceptional.

A variety of pre-order merch bundles for Seven Hours After Violet's self-titled debut are available now by clicking HERE

Seven Hours After Violet will play their first ever live show at this year's recently announced Mayhem Fest, taking place at the Glen Helen Amphitheatre in San Bernardino on October 12th. For tickets and further information, head to mayhemfest.com

Stay tuned for more from Seven Hours After Violet as they continue to push the boundaries of heavy music.

About Seven Hours After Violet

When the universe aligns, magic happens. This was certainly the case when Shavo Odadjian, the legendary bass player of System of a Down, crossed paths with platinum-selling producer, songwriter and guitarist, Morgoth at a party on 2.22.22. Their initial sessions were a spontaneous combustion of creativity, transforming from a potential solo venture into a full-fledged band. “We wrote a song right away. It wasn’t like any writing session I had been part of before, riffs were just flowing out of me without me even having to try. Every time I felt like I couldn't write anything. Morgoth would hand me a guitar and say, “go, go, go”. I needed that, you know? I needed someone to push me when I wasn't pushing myself. ” Shavo recalls. As music continued to pour out in torrents, with Shavo writing and performing all the guitar and bass parts and Morgoth producing and providing the beats, atmospherics and FX, Morgoth suggested they turn it into a Shavo solo project. However, with his eye now firmly set on the live arena, Shavo decided to create a full band.

Finding the right vocal talent to compliment the musical landscape created by Shavo and Morgoth was crucial. Morgoth’s recommendation of Taylor Barber from Left to Suffer was a game-changer. Shavo was blown away: “He was singing in falsetto one minute and growling the next—it was ridiculous. He became the singer because he knocked every song out of the park.” With Shavo on bass and Morgoth on guitar, the band also brought in Morthgoth’s Winds Of Plague band mate, Josh Johnson on drums and Alejandro Aranda, known for his solo project Scarypoolparty and as runner-up on American Idol, as lead guitarist and backing vocalist.

Once the new music was complete, mixed by Zach Jones and mastered by Maor Applebaum, Shavo partnered with Ash Avildsen, founder and CEO of Sumerian Music Group to create the brand new joint label venture 1336 Records, with Seven Hours After Violet being the first singing.

LOLITSLEA Releases New Single + Video "Exit Plan" Featuring Tom Denney

Friday, lolitslea released "Exit Plan" featuring guest guitar riffage from Tom Denney.

Lyrically and musically, it is a homage to nostalgia and youth as lolitslea taps into the 2008 punk and post-hardcore influences that are synonymous with the era and pines for the simplicity of her youth. The track showcases her vocal range with a soaring chorus and packs a punch with an A Day To Remember-esque breakdown provided by the band's ex-guitarist Tom Denney himself.

When asked about the song, lolitslea says, "'Exit Plan' runs circles around the themes of liminal spaces, the backrooms, and realizing life will never be what it was back in 2008. Where my biggest regret in life was selling my Nintendo DS to a local pawn shop. This tune was co-produced and co-written by Tom Denney, formally from A Day To Remember."

lolitslea is the epitome of bright, nostalgia-driven music for today's youth (imagine if Artist Vs Poet or Hey Monday came out in 2024). Growing up in the small, yet touristy beach town of Point Pleasant, NJ, lolitslea was homegrown from all kinds of music from the Asbury Park alternative scene and Warped Tour era. The neon-pop punk bangers on her upcoming album "NOTHING LASTS FOREVER!" are relatable, danceable, and oh-so-fun!

LOLITSLEA 2024 TOUR DATES:
10/9 —  Philadelphia, PA —  The Rotunda
10/10 —  Asbury Park, NJ —  Bond Street Bar
10/11 —  Baltimore, MD —  Zen West
10/12 —  Raleigh, NC —  Kings
10/15 —  Orlando, FL —  Will's Pub
10/18 —  Atlanta, GA —  Smith's Olde Bar
10/19 —  Murfreesboro, TN —  1507 Diana St

ABOUT LOLITSLEA:
Growing up in the small, yet touristy beach town of Point Pleasant, New Jersey, lolitslea was homegrown from every and all kinds of music that came out of the Asbury Park alternative scene and Warped Tour era. The independent artist has intertwined the boldness of punk and the colors of pop to bring back the bright sounds of the Neon Pop Punk scene we all grew to love in the mid-2000s. Think Artist Vs Poet or early Fall Out Boy.

After topping the charts with her college a cappella group (Twisted Measure), lolitslea set off to grow her project. lolitslea's sound has been produced and developed by emo icons such as Chase Coy (formally with Universal Music Group), Tom Denney (formerly A Day To Remember), and Roye Robley (Meet Me @ The Altar, Fluorescents), with features from Kellin Quinn (Sleeping With Sirens), Bemo Rouge, Joshua Roberts (Magnolia Park), glimmers, Smooth Brain, and more to come.

lolitslea is finishing up her debut full-length to be released October 2024. Following that, she'll be busy in writing sessions with Dan Swank (All Time Low, Taylor Acorn), Cassadee Pope (Hey Monday), Cameron Walker, and many more.

Christian Hayes Releases Debut EP ‘Last I Love You’ via Capitol Records

When Rome, Georgia native Christian Hayes emerged onto the music scene this year with the release of "Leaving,” “LILY” (an acronym for “last I love you”) and “Cheyenne,” he gained instant recognition with Holler declaring him among their list of “Country and Americana Artists You Need To Know” and Nashville Briefing naming him an “Artist To Watch.” Now, Hayes arrives on Capitol Records with his debut EP, Last I Love You,encompassing those three songs along with newly released “Black Gold” and “My Memory.”

Listen to Last I Love You HERE.

The record casts a wide net, bouncing between campfire ballads, cinematic soundscapes and raw, rowdy barn-burners. At the center of that sound is Hayes himself: a wise-beyond-his-years musician who knows he can't move forward without taking a look at his past.

"This record is about who I used to be, and it sets the stage for who I'm going to be. It's the last 'I love you' to my old self,” Hayes shares. “I have skeletons in my closet, just like everyone else, and I want people to hear the authenticity in these songs. I'm not hiding anything."

Fusing Americana with cinematic folk, Last I Love You was produced by Lukas Bracewell and is an autobiographical introduction of Hayes’ journey to Music Row, beginning with “Black Gold,” which chronicles a two year stint in which he worked for his now ex girlfriend’s father selling oil and gas. Often clocking in 14-16 hour days – sometimes seven days a week, with very little pay – the period that “Black Gold” recalls was a formative one in Hayes’ life.

“I often struggled with self-love, so I sought that in other places,” Hayes recalls. “This EP highlights my journey in overcoming that discontentment and learning how to love myself. A lot of these lessons are highlighted, in the track ‘Black Gold,’ which is a true story that narrates my journey selling fuel which led me to the self-realization that the relationship and the job that I had were taking more than they were giving.”

“Black Gold” will be added to rotation on SiriusXM’s The Highway this weekend timed to its release.

Released in February 2024, "Leaving" was Hayes' debut single, an up-tempo song about making dumb mistakes and running away from problems. “LILY” followed in April. Its poignant evocation of the reluctant end of a relationship – along with the instant-classic refrain “I guess this is my last I love you” – struck a chord with listeners, who turned it into a viral hit, quickly sending combined global streams past the three million mark. Hayes released “Cheyenne,” an expressive, melodic journey through self-discovery and heartbreak, in July.

"People have told me about how much 'LILY' has helped them," Hayes explains. "It makes them feel like they're not alone. With three million streams and counting, the song reminds me that I'm not alone, either. It's brought a sense of togetherness to me and my audience, and maybe it's healed me more than it's healed anyone else."

To coincide with the EP release, Hayes is unveiling his first official music video today for “LILY.” Starting in a bedroom setting, illuminated by moonlight, and evolving into a new bedroom as the song progresses, the video symbolizes the journey of moving on from a past relationship, anchored by Christian’s raw performance.

The EP is capped with the reflective track “My Memory.” Evoking nostalgia for the home he grew up in, “My Memory” poetically recalls Hayes’ time spent on the front porch and its lasting impact on his life. The spot where he honed his craft and wrote the more than 900 songs he has in his journal, his front porch is also where he bonded with his father and matured beyond the defiant ways of his childhood.

Genuine and articulate, Hayes comes from a long line of storytellers that includes his Grandpa Jack – a poet by profession – who gave Christian his first journal. Born and raised in the foothills of Appalachia, Hayes began playing guitar at age eight. After high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy Reserve and attended the University of Alabama.

Hayes recently signed with Capitol Records, as well as with William Morris Endeavor (WME) for booking, Universal Music Publishing Group (UMPG) for publishing, Wildrose Projects for management and Flood Bumstead McCready & McCarthy (FBMM) for business management.

All songs on Last I Love You are self-penned except for “Black Gold,” which Hayes co-wrote with Jonathan Hutcherson.

Christian Hayes – Upcoming Tour Dates
Sept. 21 – AMERICANAFEST Showcase @ City Winery - Nashville, TN
Oct. 26 - River South Festival - Bainbridge, GA
Oct. 29 - Eddie's Attic - Atlanta, GA

ABOUT CHRISTIAN HAYES
Raised in the Appalachian foothills of northern Georgia, Christian Hayes grew up surrounded by southern storytelling. His grandfather — a poet by profession — encouraged him to begin writing in a journal at 7 years old, sparking a habit that would eventually take Hayes to Nashville. A veteran of the US Navy Reserve, Hayes began applying the discipline of his military training to his work as a songwriter, amassing more than 900 original songs by his mid-twenties. Five of those songs appear on Last I Love You, his debut for Capitol Records available now. Produced by Lukas Bracewell and steeped in Hayes' unique version of American roots music, Last I Love You features the viral single "LILY" (which racked up more than 3 million streams before the EP's official release), the anthemic "Black Gold," and a mix of effortless melodies, cinematic folk and rowdy, barn-burning Americana.

Void Of Vision Release New Album "What I'll Leave Behind" + Share Video For "Neurotic"

"'What I'll Leave Behind' is an expressive and beautiful offering that sees experimentation and originality flourishing in the face of trauma and affliction…With new trajectories ahead, Void Of Vision is an unstoppable force to be reckoned with- and that is the message they will leave behind for years to come" — Wall Of Sound, 10/10

"Brutal, raw, emotive, gut wrenching despair and confusion. No thought is left off the page and those lyrics are sensationally captured in a musically refined album… Musically and visually, it’s almost a celebration track, a tale of freedom and acceptance. Now it’s time to take on the world" — HiFi Way

"This band just continues to reinvent themselves in the best possible way" — The Break Down With Nath + Johnny

Today, Melbourne's Void Of Vision release their fourth studio album What I'll Leave Behind via UNFD.

A stupefying collection of explosive riffs, viscous textures and serrated metalcore, What I'll Leave Behind finds Void Of Vision channeling their trademark wares into new and scintillating territory, redefining modern heavy music through a sharp and compelling lens.

Today, Void Of Vision also share a brand new video for the track "Neurotic;" the ultimate ode for vocalist Jack Bergin's road to self discovery alongside staggering odds.

"'Neurotic' is my own personal ego death anthem," Bergin shares. "I've spent so many years of my life in the most neurotic headspace. I've been a self-absorbed, egocentric, and overall shitty person behind the curtain and managed to pull it off under the guise of music. It only took until very recently to realise sometimes we all have to let go of a piece of ourselves to move forward and saying it all out loud in the moment is a part of that step that just makes it more real."

He continues, "Becoming self-aware and conscious of my own personal growth since radiotherapy has made me realize what's really important. The artificial fantasy we trap ourselves in is only built to last so long, feeling it all come to a halt is near bliss. I'm losing unnecessary connections, so many fake people and so much wasted time that is giving me more happiness than I have ever found within this bleak rat race. "

He finishes,"Unplugging from it all just feels so fucking good."

Watch the video for "Neurotic" below.

Tracing a long and harrowing personal journey for vocalist Jack Bergin, What I'll Leave Behind ultimately captures events that trace back to 2022 when Bergin woke up in an ambulance. Following a seizure and countless tests, Bergin would soon discover the fundamental, tectonic-plates-of-life shifting reason: he had a "glitch" in his head. An arteriovenous malformation (AVM), to be precise, a tangle of blood vessels in his brain, revealed by MRI and CT scans.

Balancing touring, music video filming and the recording of the CHRONICLES III: UNDERWORLD EP, Bergin's increasing exhaustion alongside his creative commitments prompted him to step back and reconfigure, adapting a shadow-self and creative gimmick dubbed the Angel Of Darkness, accompanying the single of the same name and aiming to help Bergin take space to get through each day, whilst still propelling Void Of Vision's artistic world forward.

Alas, the steps taken were not enough; in April of 2023, hospital visits and further scans revealed that the AVM had ruptured, and Bergin was suffering a brain bleed. Surgery was now essential; immediately it was clear that Void Of Vision's schedule, including headline shows, festivals and the recording of their next album, needed to be wiped clean, as Bergin was hospitalised for the foreseeable future.

Experiencing what he today acknowledges was little short of an existential crisis, Bergin spent the weeks in his hospital bed in a state of exhaustive, draining introspection, reflection and analysis, oscillating between contradictory emotions, facing his own mortality and questioning everything: "Was / is it all worth it? What am I doing with my life? Who am I without the band? What will I leave behind?"

From this state of conflict, Bergin’s internal war of attrition, came What I'll Leave Behind, Void Of Vision's fourth album, with the new album also finding Bergin and his bandmates, James McKendrick (guitar/vocals), George Pfaender (drums) and Mitch Fairlie (guitar) more focused than ever; the genre polyamory of the CHRONICLES era smelted and reforged into a sound that is distinctly, unmistakably, joyously their own. Nasty, heavy, yet sleekly surgical, it offers the perfect soundtrack for a journey from disaster to acceptance, via trauma, uncertainty, loss and learning.

Void Of Vision have solidified their standing as one of the most innovative and sonically explosive acts in the heavy scene for over a decade. From their debut EP, 2014's Broken // Bones through to 2016's Children of Chrome, 2017's Disturbia, 2019's Hyperdaze and the release of the amalgamated CHRONICLES series in 2023, a new future was heralded last year by the arrival of a standalone single Angel Of Darkness; an alt metal rager weighted equally by searing heaviness and pulsing pop, helmed by the titular Angel Of Darkness as the band's representative during the single's campaign.

With recent unforgettable performances at home and abroad in their wake alongside Stray From The Path, ERRA, Holding Absence, Polaris and the first ever edition of Knotfest Australia, Void Of Vision are currently on the road supporting Aussie juggernauts Parkway Drive on their gargantuan 20 Year Anniversary Tour in Australia, with a packed Brisbane show on Wednesday 18 September kicking of proceedings, a second show in Brisbane tonight to coincide with the release of What I'll Leave Behind, and shows still to come for Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and closing out in Perth.

Void Of Vision will also be returning to North America this November and December, supporting The Ghost Inside and also appearing as part of August Burns Red's annual Christmas Burns Red event.

"The most beautiful things / Are what I'll leave behind..."

A small collection of long out-of-print demo tapes kicked off what has proven to be an enduring line of ripping studio albums, singles and EPs. Skeletal Remains photo by Allen Falcon

ABOUT SKELETAL REMAINS:

Skeletal Remains’s ultra-brutal new album, Fragments of the Ageless, is upon us! The Americans—featuring Mike De La O (guitars), Chris Monroy (guitars/vocals), Pierce Williams (drums), and newcomer Brian Rush (bass)—kept busy after their much-hailed The Entombment of Chaos landed into a chaotic world in 2020. Rather than sit idle, the re-energized quartet crafted their penultimate statement. Tracks like “Void of Despair,” which Monroy describes as “aggressive and spastic,” “To Conquer the Devout,” “Relentless Appetite,” and “Verminous Embodiment” are death metal manifested in sound fundamentals, killer musicianship, and the right attitude. While Skeletal Remains have had four full-lengths since forming in 2011, 'Fragments of the Ageless' is the band in their highest grotesque gear yet.

Line-up:

Chris Monroy - guitars/vocals

Mike De La O - guitars

Brian Rush - bass

Elle King Takes the "High Road" with New Song, Out Friday

On Friday Sept. 20, multi-award-winning singer-songwriter Elle King will release her new song, “High Road,” exploring life's contradictions, choices and the hazy journey to self-realization. Pre-save/pre-add the song here.

‘“High Road’ is a nod to the classic country that I've loved,” said King. “When I come out on the stage of life, I want to be my truest and utmost self, and I want to release music that makes me happy, that I love to sing and music that acknowledges the things that have inspired me, like Willie Nelson and Highwaymen. I wrote this song last year and it's funny how the lyrics have played out over this year.”

Known for her candid lyricism and genre-blending style, King, who wrote the song with her longtime bassist and bandleader Paul Dominck DeVincenzo, has always found a way to turn personal experiences into universally relatable songs.

With smash hits like “Drunk (and I Don’t Wanna Go Home)” with Miranda Lambert, “America’s Sweetheart,” and Ex’s & Oh’s,” King has amassed a loyal following of fans who appreciate music that cuts to the core of the human experience while still managing to keep things light.

Look for King to perform the song live on her Baby Daddy’s Weekend Tour, which kicked off last month in Biloxi, Mississippi, and will wrap Nov. 17 in Evansville, Indiana. This weekend, she has shows in Newkirk, Ohio, on Friday, Sept. 20; at Billy Bob’s in Ft. Worth on Saturday, Sept. 21; and Cain’s Ballroom in Tulsa, Oklahoma on Sunday, Sept. 22. Elle is joined on tour with rising Warner Music Nashville duo, The Band Loula.

Pop Evil announce U.S. tour with Bad Wolves

Modern rock powerhouse POP EVIL return with the new single "What Remains."

It's the dawn of a new era for Pop Evil, which the band promises will be its most sonically heavy.

You've been warned, because the track, with its thunderous riffs and rhythmic thrust, fulfills that promise.

Watch the lyric video for the song, which was produced by Wage War's Cody Quistad Below.

Kakaty continues, "We are also proud to officially announce the newest member of the Pop Evil lineup — Blake Allison." Allison is replacing departed member Hayley Cramer on drums, joining Kakaty and fellow bandmates, guitarists Dave Grahs and Nick Fuelling, and bassist Joey "Chicago" Walser.

Pop Evil has recently announced its Fall 2024 tour plans. The band will embark on "The Animal Instinct Tour," which is a co-headline run with Bad Wolves. Sierra Pilot and Oni will serve as support. Plain White T's Share Remix of Billion-Streaming Smash Hit "Hey There Delilah"

PLAIN WHITE T'S — Tom Higgenson [vocals], Tim Lopez [lead guitar, vocals],Mike Retondo [bass], and De'Mar Hamilton [drums] — have shared the RJ Pasin remix of their billion-streaming, platinum smash hit "Hey There Delilah." Watch + listen below

The song was originally released back in 2006 and it remains a beloved song among fans and beyond.

Many remixes can be subtle. Not so with the RJ Pasin remix if the platinum hit "Hey There Delilah" by Plain White Ts. The remix adds a little twang, as well as some beats and blips, giving the billion streaming, heartfelt song an unexpected refresh for 2024. Things escalate and get unexpectedly noisier and louder towards the latter half of the song. It's a testament to the songwriting, since the song lends itself to this reworking, which call out all of the many beautiful moments of the song.

"I love RJ Pasin's reimagining of 'Hey There Delilah,'" says Higgenson. "So much energy, and a totally different spin on the song. It's so cool."

Pasin concurs, "My remix of 'Hey There Delilah' was a fun way to incorporate modern production and guitar composition into such a timeless classic."

The band's latest release, their self-titled album, is out now via Fearless Records. Get it here

Ashton Nyte shares The Awakening's new single 'Mirror Midnight' (from 12th album) ahead of EU-UK tour

Gothic Rock / Darkwave act The Awakening shares their new single 'Mirror Midnight', which underscores historical tendency towards self-obsession and the media's recurring manipulation of self-perception. This is the first taste of their self-titled album (their 12th to date), which will be released on October 18 via Intervention Arts.

Now based in the USA, The Awakening is a dark musical project formed in Johannesburg, South Africa in the late ’90s as the creative expression of vocalist, multi-instrumentalist and songwriter Ashton Nyte, who was anointed as "Johannesburg's Bowie" for his widely varying musical styles and theatrical performances. Having morphed over the years, The Awakening's sound incorporates numerous genres, including gothic rock, darkwave, post-punk, electronic rock, folk noir, new wave and more.

Also an author, actor and Renaissance man of sorts, Ashton Nyte created the 'Mirror Midnight' video, shot in his preferred black-and-white format, with a gothic noir film treatment.

"Mirror Midnight is about the obsession of the self, as guided and fed and manipulated by mass media, social media and the endless flood of information and disinformation we all deal with constantly. It's the juxtaposition of succumbing to insidious and divisive marketing while the world goes up in flames. And how that cycle feeds itself. It's a story almost as old as time, like the fairy tale it alludes to," says Ashton Nyte.

'The Awakening' album follows Nyte's second book and eighth solo album 'Autumn's Children', which was selected as one of American Songwriter's Top 17 Albums of 2023. This new album is a celebration of the band's roots and influences. "Essentially, I fell in love all over again with the bands and albums that made me want to create this sort of art in the first place. It was a true joy to create this work," says Ashton Nyte.

"The last two Awakening albums were departures for me. 'This Alchemy' (2021) explored the more electronic side of my musical personality, and 'The Passage Remains' (2022) effectively cleared out the vaults of unreleased heavier material. It feels like it's time to come home."

A core contributor to LA-based supergroup Beauty In Chaos, having been involved with every album released to date, Nyte has collaborated with members of The Cure, The Mission, Tricky, All About Eve, as well as Peter Murphy's band. 2024 also saw Nyte involved in the latest Beauty In Chaos album 'Dancing With Angels'.

Having toured extensively and headlined music festivals in the USA, Europe, and South Africa to upwards of 30,000 people, Nyte has also written and performed in theatrical productions and hosted philanthropic events, including his “Rock Against Rape” concert series. He has also presented a lecture series at US universities focusing on tolerance and acceptance.

With a catalogue of over 300 released original songs, Ashton Nyte and The Awakening have enjoyed airplay and chart success on radio stations worldwide, with songs also featured in popular television shows, such as 'Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin' and 'The Purge'. Nyte has contributed to several scores, working with composer Ethan Gold for the movie 'Don't Let Go' (premiering at the Sundance Film Festival) and for the movie 'Pale Horse', directed by the late Pearry Teo.

As of September 4, 'Mirror Midnight' can be downloaded from fine music platforms. 'The Awakening' album, now available for pre-order, will be released on vinyl, CD, digitally and various limited-edition formats.

From the end of September, EU and UK fans can hear the new material live in a career-spanning solo acoustic tour later this year. This will be Nyte's first post-Covid tour, following a 36-date EU tour with The Mission's Wayne Hussey in 2019. Tickets are available via The Awakening's official site.

Singer/Songwriter Julie Williams Releases "reckless road"; 'Tennessee Moon' EP Set for 10/17

CMT Next Women of Country artist Julie Williams, known for her soulful lyrics and authentic storytelling, is continuing to draw in listeners with her deep connection to nature and emotion. Her latest release, “reckless road,” perfectly timed with today’s Full Corn Moon, follows recent release ‘just friends?”, which dropped on the rare Sturgeon Blue Moon last month. Both songs align with the full moon phases, as outlined by the Farmers' Almanac. Fitting as she continues to build momentum to the release of her new EP, Tennessee Moon, available Oct. 17, 2024 on the Hunter's Moon.

Produced by Jonathan Smalt and written by Williams with Melody Walker, the uptempo “reckless road” is the second release from her upcoming EP. Listen to “reckless road” Below and pre-save Tennessee Moon HERE.

“I wrote this song about falling for someone who was always looking over their shoulder. Someone who could never stay still for too long and always had their mind on the highway. I wanted to join them on their journey, but they could never quite let me in,” shares Williams. “The more I tried, the farther they ran. Inspired by the 90s country songs I grew up listening to, I wanted a song that I could blast out the window driving down a two-lane mountain highway with my friends and scream so loud that I'd forget that ex who did me wrong.”

The 90s-country inspired tune finds Williams reflecting on a lover who is constantly running and chasing something they will never find. A dancing banjo, acoustic guitar, pedal steel and classic-country style drums combine for a song that could be found on either country, Americana, or indie folk playlists.

Williams is also set to return to AmericanaFest this week with an Official AmericanaFest Showcase on Sept. 21, as well as participating in A Tribute to the Songs of 1974 on Sept. 20. For more information visit americanamusic.org. Her Tennessee Moon Tour in support of the upcoming indie folk project will trek across the Midwest and East Coast with stops in New York, Columbus, Chicago, Philadelphia, Nashville, and more. Tickets for the tour are available now at thisisjuliewilliams.com

No stranger to the road, Williams has built her career there playing over 120 shows in 26 states in the past two years and captivated audiences at festivals such as Newport Folk Festival, CMA Fest, Tortuga Music Fest, High Water Festival, Cayamo, and AmericanaFest. She has also shared the stage with acts across genres, including Jason Isbell, Allison Russell, Mt. Joy, Devon Gilfillian, Brittney Spencer and Will Hoge.

Williams carries her mixed-race heritage and queerness as proudly as she carries her music. Raised in Florida, the singer/songwriter has been turning heads in Nashville’s country and Americana music scenes with her compelling mix of storytelling, soft-yet-powerful vocals, and indie folk production. That creative path is on full display with “just friends?” available now.  The song, a blend of both classic country storytelling and queer reflection, was the first taste of new music from her new EP. The video for the track, which just made its world premiere in Times Square last week via CMT, is a nostalgic, queer story that captures both the sadness and innocence of what romantic feelings for an old friend might have looked like. Watch the video for “just friends?” HERE, listen to “just friends?” HERE

Music has always been a part of Williams’ life - honing her singing talent in church and beach bars and belting national anthems before packed stadiums. She grew up listening to everyone and everything from The Chicks and James Taylor to Gladys Knight and Michael Jackson. Even though she was drawn to the storytelling of country music, she never quite found the sound that spoke to everything she was: Black, white, Southern, a woman, hopeful, truthful. So naturally, it was up to Williams to make this sound. “My music is mixed like me,” is how she describes it, “I want to tell the stories that need to be told.”

For Tennessee Moon Williams was inspired by some of her favorite singer/songwriters like Boy Genius, Kacey Musgraves, Allison Krauss, Emmylou Harris and Taylor Swift to create a story-driven sonic journey that was both dreamy and moody while seamlessly blending country, 90s folk and indie production elements.

“Tennessee Moon was inspired by a picture that I took of one of my exes as they kayaked at Percy Priest Lake under a stunning Tennessee sunset,” shares Williams. “I watched this person - and our relationship - float farther and farther away from me, just as the sky was fading from orange and red to blue and gray. With that picture, and with this EP, I wanted to capture that wistful feeling - of trying to hold onto a beautiful, golden moment that you know in your heart is not going to last. This EP is an ode to my mid-20s - all the golden days, the dark nights, the flowers, and the dirt.”

The Florida native started sharing those stories, and people listened. A student at Duke University, she was signed to Small Town Records whose alumni include Mike Posner and Delta Rae and sang as a vocalist for the Duke Jazz Ensemble. After graduating with a public policy degree in 2019, she moved to Nashville and found her musical home in the Black country and Americana scene. She was named in Rissi Palmer’s Color Me Country Class of 2021 and she was featured in a “PBS NewsHour” special on Black women in country music. In 2022, Julie joined the Black Opry, a collective of Black artists in country, blues, folk, and Americana music. Julie was named a CMT Equal Access artist in 2023, joining the mTheory backed program to support marginalized voices in country music.

“People want to hear black voices, black stories,” Williams says. “I was nervous about how my songs would be received by Nashville - but people want honesty. They want honest songs about real life, and for the artists they follow to take a stand.”

Tennessee Moon follows her self-titled EP, Julie Williams, with American Songwriter praising her “success through the power of her own voice” and the Tennessean noting she “discovers joy, maturation” on the project.

An activist at heart, Williams launched Green Room Conversations in March 2023, a series of performances and speaking on college campuses to raise awareness of sexual harassment in the music industry and her own experience with sexual violence. Williams hopes to empower the next generation of artists and industry changemakers and has already visited MTSU, University of Texas-Austin, and Duke with more campus visits planned for later this year.

“I’m writing my songs for the girl who cries in the shower as she tries to detangle her hair and is afraid to look in the mirror because she hates what she sees; for the 17-year-old who is just now learning to love herself; for the 20-or 30-something who is just trying to figure it out," shares Williams. "That’s who my songs are for.”
