"American Idol” Winner Iam Tongi is on the “Road to Hana”

“American Idol” Season 21 winner and Hawaii native, Iam Tongi releases new track, “Road to Hana”  via 19 Recordings. Co-written by Tongi, the song is a love letter to the islands where he grew up. Listen to “Road to Hana” Below .

Recorded in Nashville at Soultrain Sound Studios, Tongi says of the song, “I’ve always been proud of my heritage and where I was raised. Hawaii is such a big place with so many beautiful secret destinations. There’s a few however that are known around the world. The road to Hana is 64.4 miles of untouched beauty. This song is a celebration of that beauty and everything it has to offer.”

At just 18-years old when he auditioned, the Hawaiian born singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist won hearts around the world and brought Lionel Richie, Katy Perry, and Luke Bryan, to tears with his emotional performance of James Blunt's "Monsters," dedicated to his father Rodney who had recently passed away - watch it HERE. The audition went on to become the most watched on the show’s YouTube with 29 million views.

Tongi became the first Pacific Islander to win the series, performing an emotional duet with James Blunt of his audition song "Monsters" – watch it HERE.  He went on to earn his first Billboard No. 1 on the Rock Digital Songs Sales Chart after releasing his debut single, "I'll Be Seeing You"

Tongi will appear in “MAUI RISING: The Fight for Hawai'i’s Future,” airing tonight, Friday, Aug. 9, at 8 p.m. EDT on ABC, streaming the next day on Hulu. The one-hour primetime special marks a year since the deadliest wildfire in modern U.S. history tore through the picturesque town of Lahaina, Maui, leaving a community reeling and inspiring a new generation of organizers ready to stand up for change. Narrated by actor and Hawai’i resident Jason Scott Lee, the program highlights the strength, determination and resilience of the people of Lahaina and follows Native Hawaiian community leaders who see the tragedy as an opportunity to re-envision a new town based on ecological restoration, cultural repair, and ultimately a chance to build a stronger, more equitable and more sustainable future for all of Hawai’i.

“MAUI RISING: The Fight for Hawai'i’s Future” spotlights Lahaina leaders who see the catastrophic fire as a pivot point and opportunity to rectify long-standing issues around affordable housing, the tourism-based economy, water rights and resource exploitation. In addition to Tongi, interviews include legendary Hawaiian surfer Archie Kalepa; Hawaiian cultural practitioner Ke’eaumoku Kapu; key organizers of the grassroots community group Lahaina Strong, Pā’ele Kiakona, Courtney Lazo and Jordan Ruidas; and more.

Tongi is currently on the road with dates across the U.S. through the end of the year. For the latest news including tour dates and new music visit officialiamtongi.com and follow along @wtongi on InstagramTikTokX and Facebook

Whiskey Myers Celebrate 5 New RIAA Certifications During "Fox & Friends" All-American Summer Concert Series

While appearing live on the “Fox & Friends” All-American Summer Concert Series today, Aug. 9, genre-bending band Whiskey Myers added to their Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) hardware with a surprise presentation of five new Gold, Platinum and multi-Platinum certifications (denoted with asterisks below), bringing their total to nine RIAA-certified hits, a rare feat for an independent band:

  • “Stone” (2x Platinum)*

  • “Bury My Bones” (Platinum)*

  • “Ballad of a Southern Man” (Platinum)

  • “Broken Window Serenade” (Platinum)

  • Firewater (Gold)

  • “Reckoning” (Gold)*

  • “Bar, Guitar and a Honky Tonk Crowd” (Gold)*

  • “Lonely East Texas Nights” (Gold)*

  • “Virginia” (Gold)

The chart-topping band performed two of those Platinum-certified songs, “Bury My Bones” and “Broken Window Serenade,” as well as fan-favorite “Die Rockin'” plus “John Wayne” and “Feets” off their latest album, Tornillo, lauded by Forbes as “difficult to categorize or pigeonhole because it’s uniquely their own... constantly pushing the creative envelope,” with Saving Country Music declaring the album to be “unapologetic and attitudinal,” noting, “Tonrillo brings an energy, drive, pluck, and abandon most of modern music in this repressed era has vacated due to fear of reprisal. Rock music needs saving too, and Whiskey Myers is here to pick up the slack."

Whiskey Myers' appearance comes as the band brings their high-octane live show celebrated by Holler as a “six-piece concoction of southern rock, blue-collar country and rock 'n' roll... solidifying Whiskey Myers' place among the leading jam bands of the 21st century” to Atlantic City, N.J. tonight, Aug. 9; Virginia Beach, Va. (with Hank Williams, Jr.) tomorrow, Aug. 10; and Selbyville, Del. on Sunday, Aug. 11 as their headlining run continues throughout the U.S. until November. Tickets to all dates are on sale now via WhiskeyMyers.com.

About Whiskey Myers
Genre-bending band Whiskey Myers have played more than 2,500 live shows to ever-increasing crowd sizes since their emergence in 2007. In addition to headlining their own sold-out shows from coast to coast at iconic venues such as Red Rocks Amphitheatre and Ryman Auditorium, plus performing at marquee festivals Bonnaroo, Stagecoach, Download and more, the six-piece was also personally selected to open The Rolling Stones’ Chicago stadium show in 2019. Their latest self-produced album, Tornillo, available everywhere now via the band’s own Wiggy Thump Records, features the No. 17 most-played Americana song of 2022, “John Wayne,” and follows their fifth studio album, Whiskey Myers, which debuted at No. 1 on both the Country and Americana/Folk sales charts, at No. 2 on the Rock chart and No. 6 on the all-genre Billboard 200 chart (No. 3 among new releases). In total, Whiskey Myers have sold more than 2.1 million albums and amassed over 3.1 billion streams while earning nine RIAA Gold & Platinum/multi-Platinum certifications as an independent band. Known for their high-energy live show and unique sound, the band praised by Esquire as “the real damn deal” has also earned sync success with multiple features (and the first on-screen musical guest appearance) in Paramount’s hit show “Yellowstone” as well as Netflix series “What/If,” Angelina Jolie film “Those Who Wish Me Dead” and CBS series “SEAL Team,” among several others. USA Today describes their sound as “a riff-heavy blend of Southern rock and gritty country that has earned comparisons to the Allman Brothers Band and Led Zeppelin,” with Rolling Stone noting “it’s the seminal combination of twang and crunchy rock & roll guitars that hits a perfect sweet spot.”

Randy Houser and Riley Green Join Forces on "Rub A Little Dirt On It"

As he gears up for the kickoff to his co-headlining Country Round Here Tonight Tour with Justin Moore next month, multi-Platinum artist Randy Houser is joined by Riley Green for “Rub A Little Dirt On It,” an anthem of resilience and finding solace in the simple pleasures of life and a fan-favorite track from his album Note To Self. Listen to “Rub A Little Dirt On It” featuring Riley Green Below.

“I thought Riley’s voice would be perfect for ‘Rub A Little Dirt On It,’” shares Houser. “He has a down-to-earth quality that really matches the spirit of this song.”

Written by Houser with Jeff Hyde and Ryann Tyndell, “Rub A Little Dirt On It” reflects on the wisdom and strength gained from overcoming challenges and the healing power of the outdoors while acting as a reminder that difficult times are only temporary, sometimes alleviated by turning to places of beauty and tranquility:

Today’s release follows Houser’s latest single “Country Back,” a full throttle proclamation of all things country, with over 100 stations playing the song as it climbs the charts at Country radio. Listen to “Country Back” HERE.

About Randy Houser
With an inimitable voice The New York Times describes as “wholly different, thicker and more throbbing, a caldron bubbling over,” Randy Houser racked up three consecutive No. 1 hits and more than four million in singles sales to date with his Stoney Creek Records album How Country Feels. He topped the charts with the title track, “Runnin’ Outta Moonlight” and “Goodnight Kiss” (also his first No. 1 as a songwriter) and earned critical acclaim for his powerful delivery of the Top 5 smash and CMA Song of the Year-nominated “Like A Cowboy.” Houser added a fourth No. 1 to his catalogue with “We Went” from his 2016 album, Fired Up. Houser’s sixth studio album Note To Self is available now via Magnolia Music Group and features 10 tracks all co-written by the Mississippi native. Lead single and title track “Note To Self” marked his “powerful return” following 2019’s critically-acclaimed album Magnolia, with MusicRow boasting the Mississippi native “remains one of country music’s very finest vocalists.” His latest single “Country Back” is available now. For more information, visit RandyHouser.com.

About Riley Green
Riley Green has been compelling Country music fans to raise a drink, shed a tear, and, above all, celebrate where they are from, since his self-titled EP in 2018 debuted with Big Machine Label Group. His songs like the No. 1 PLATINUM hit “There Was This Girl,” the 2X-PLATINUM-certified heart-tugger “I Wish Grandpas Never Died,” and his chart-topping collab with Thomas Rhett, “Half of Me,” have made the Academy of Country Music’s 2020 New Male Artist of the Year synonymous with what Country music does best: making listeners feel something with his no-gimmick, relatable writing and classic feel.

A huge 2023 for the avid sports fan, former athlete (Jacksonville State University quarterback) and outdoorsman, Green secured his third No. 1 single “Different ‘Round Here (Ft. Luke Combs),” played to an average of 65,000 fans each night as direct support on massive tours for Luke Combs and Morgan Wallen and released his latest full-length studio album Ain’t My Last Rodeo. The Dann Huff-produced album features his current Top 25-and-climbing single “Damn Good Day To Leave,” and gave a deeper look into the life of good ol’ boy who still lives in his hometown of Jacksonville, AL.

Currently riding a wave of massive success that grows stronger each day, 2024 has been a rocket for Green. He released his Way Out Here EP, which included two solo writes that had critics and fans alike gushing (the poignant “Jesus Saves” and the sultry “Worst Way,” which sparked a frenzy on the internet), the humorous tune “Rather Be,” as well as the wildly viral “you look like you love me” with Ella Langley, which has also taken social media by storm. He played for the biggest Country crowd in UK history (on his first trip across the pond no less), headlined his own (largely sold out) amphitheater tour, hosted his own festival, became one of only three Country artists to grace the cover of Cigar & Spirits and has become one of the most buzzed-about artists in Nashville. With another project on its way this fall, it’s clear, “there’s no slowing down for Riley Green” (Pollstar).  See tour dates and learn more at RileyGreenMusic.com.

Ian Munsick’s “Caroline” Out Now + Surprise-Drops “Good Dogs & Sad Songs”

Ahead of the release of his sophomore album White Buffalo last year, Wyoming native Ian Munsick shared with Music Row the inspiration his wife and son have had on his songwriting, stating “Caroline and Crawford are in all of these songs. It’s just more blatant in some than others.” With “More Than Me” tipping its hat to Caroline’s faith, and songs “Dig” and “Ranch Hand” serving as a testament to their love story, Munsick now interweaves these influences for his most direct tribute yet.

“Talk about pressure… naming a song after your wife is as high stakes as it gets as a songwriter. Releasing that song is about as high stakes as it gets as a husband,” Munsick shares with a laugh. “Luckily, it’s one of my favorite songs I’ve ever written and even more importantly, it’s one of my wife’s. Every line is the truth and is seven years in the making. I took my time on it because God took His time on Caroline.”

“Caroline” is available everywhere now, listen HERE. Named after his wife, “Caroline” was written by Munsick alongside Jeremy Spillman and Phil O’Donnell.

In addition to the release of “Caroline,” Munsick surprise-dropped “Good Dogs & Sad Songs” as he continues to play more-and-more new live music on the road.

“Earlier this year, I sat down to write with the brilliant minds that helped create ‘Leather,’ my first cut as a songwriter (thanks CoJo). I had been looking forward to cooking up another one with this combo for a while,” Munsick reflects on the writing process with co-writers Jeremy Spillman and Rivers Rutherford. “Problem was, I had no song ideas this time. We were about an hour into the session and we had some great lines/melodies but still no title to write towards. Finally, my favorite line was cast out into the room: ‘dry wood that splits good and burns all night long.’ From then on, the song wrote itself.

“That day was a funny reminder of how the simple things in life are often the most meaningful and inspiring,” he adds. “No matter how much we complicate our lives, the things that God made will always bring clarity and a sense of peace. Just like good dogs and sad songs.”

This Fall, Munsick will return to the Rocky Mountain region with his Country & WESTern Tour presented by Boot Barnwith nine shows throughout the west. Munsick is currently headlining his Boots, Buckles & Bolos Tour, and can be seen on select dates of Lainey Wilson’s Country’s Cool Again Tour this summer.

ABOUT CKY:
Once upon a time, CKY burned it all down, with a raucous, anarchic, hard rock sound soaked in the skate-punk culture that birthed them and a hard-partying lifestyle onstage and off that decimated relationships and reputations in its wake.

Chad I Ginsburg, the band's guitarist and singer, steps into the frontman role with charisma, charm, and bravado, confidently delivering a diverse performance as he claims a position that was clearly rightfully his to own.

He's joined in enduring partnership and musical and personal chemistry by fellow CKY co-founder, Jess Margera, the drummer whose extracurricular work in projects like The Company Band (with guys from Clutch and Fireball Ministry) expanded CKY's horizons as much as Ginsburg's solo work has as well.

Guns N' Roses, Metallica, and Deftones have all personally invited CKY on tour, cementing a legacy as a hard-charging live act. CKY built a worldwide fanbase of dedicated acolytes, friends, and supporters, lovingly dubbed the CKY Alliance, with a broader group of musicians, athletes, and other creative types in the CKY family, both literally and figuratively.

Carver City (2009) debuted at #4 on the Hard Music charts. It was the second CKY album to debut in the Top 50 on the Billboard 200: An Answer Can Be Found(2005) hit #35 upon its release. 2017's The Phoenix was a spiritual successor to CKY's breakthrough, Infiltrate•Destroy•Rebuild (2002), with a hint of the appropriately titled debut, Volume 1 (1999).

"We're grown adults now with an eagle-eye perspective on who we are, what we do, and how to do it right," Ginsburg declares, with matter-of-fact certainty. "None of us are out there in the clouds. We're pretty well-grounded people that have an honest perspective on where we're at."

The totality of the CKY experience is perhaps best summarized by a quote from enigmatic comic book legend, author, and self-proclaimed magician, Alan Moore. "My experience of life is that it is is not divided up into genres; it's a horrifying, romantic, tragic, comical, science-fiction cowboy detective novel. You know, with a bit of pornography if you're lucky."

Margera observes that it was "a perfect storm of events" that led to CKY becoming a pretty popular name. "When it's happening, you're not paying attention. But once you get a couple of years under your belt, you realize, 'Holy shit, man. That was lucky as hell that happened to us!,' ya know?"

"We're feeling rather lucky," Ginsburg agrees. "We're not taking things for granted. We're saturated in gratitude. It's an incredibly humbled CKY, with a fire to last another 20 years. The point is to go play rock 'n' roll and appreciate everybody else who does it, too. It's a lucky job to have."

New Jersey band BARD signs to Magic Door Records, presents soulful 'Angels Got His Back' single

"With a rich melodic and soulful quality, laced with infectious rhythms and laid-back vibes, this music makes for a captivating listening experience - the kind of track that makes you want to close your eyes, turn up the volume, and let the music wash over you" ~ Amplify Music Magazine

New Jersey groovy rock-blues outfit BARD (a.k.a. The BARD Band) present their new single 'Angels Got His Back', bringing us a sublime dose of their soulful sound and groovy spirit. This is the first taste of their debut album 'Angels Got His Back', slated for release on October 4 with label backing thanks to their recently inked deal with Magic Door Records.

In the capable hands of producer Ray Ketchem (Guided by Voices, Elk City, Luna, Gramercy Arms), this album was recorded, mixed and mastered at the famed Magic Door Recording studio in Montclair. "We’re thrilled to announce the first single from The BARD Band, a new addition to our roster. This is the title track to their upcoming LP 'Angels Got His Back'! Try to resist this airy groove of a song we’re dubbing New Classic Rock," says Ray Ketchem.

BARD was formed in 2017 in Montclair by college friends Jamie Pagliaro (acoustic guitar, lead vocals) and Michael Schreiber (keyboard, organ, vocals), who reunited after losing touch for two decades. The band's lineup grew to include Dave Menez (bass guitar, vocals), Mike Potenza (electric guitar, vocals) and David Kolk (drums, percussion, vocals), each bringing his own unique musical sensibilities. This fusion resulted in a rich texture of sounds, enhanced by the band's cohesive approach to dynamics, tone, and articulate sound mix.

Jamie Pagliaro shares, "'Angels Got His Back' is a poignant adaptation of Vachel Lindsay's timeless poem 'In Memory of a Child'. The song paints a vivid picture of a child embraced by celestial guardians, wandering through idyllic landscapes of eternal spring. It captures the innocence and wonder of childhood, celebrating the belief that the departed are safe in the care of angels, their spirits forever bright and untarnished."

A tribute to enduring love and hope that lights up even the darkest moments, this funky dark-themed track tenderly imagines a departed child now in the care of angels, playing and exploring in a heavenly realm. Surrounded by beauty and joy, he roams through eternal spring, safe and enlightened.

With a soulful groove-rock sound, BARD craft uplifting music that inspires and unites through a contagious rhythm. Initially drawing inspiration from Shakespeare, BARD's vision of setting poems to music quickly expanded to include works from poets like Robert Browning, Langston Hughes, in addition to original poems by Jamie Pagliaro. A product of their collaborative process, each member makes their own unique contribution to the structure and composition of each song.

BARD's music is as much inspired by soulful singers like Marvin Gaye and Van Morrison, the funky sounds of the Doobie Brothers and Grover Washington's jazz as they are by classic rock influences like Neil Young and The Band, the Allman Brothers' southern rock and the jam band style of the Grateful Dead, not to mention a touch of country sensibility.

In contrast to their 2002 debut EP 'Come Back Often', which leans on their indie-folk roots with elements of country and rock, BARD's new album represents an evolutionary step forward, highlighting the incorporation of funk and soul elements, while also allowing space for more improvisation and textured percussive elements.

From their inception to their evolving sound and dedicated live performances, BARD continues to build a dedicated following and make their mark in the music scene. Thriving on live performances, delighting diverse audiences at festivals, community events, breweries and coffee shops, they are known for their engaging shows, energizing audiences with positive vibes.

The 'Angels Got His Back' single is available everywhere digitally, including Spotify, Apple Music and Bandcamp. Their debut album, out October 4, can already be pre-ordered via Bandcamp. On August 23, BARD will be holding a soft-launch album release party at Tierney’s Montclair.

For Portland, Oregon's VITRIOL, nothing comes easy. Nothing. The title of their second Century Media album, 'Suffer & Become,' says it all. "The title really sums it up," says guitarist and vocalist Kyle Rasmussen. "I pushed things to a point while making this album where it almost became untenable. Things that were supposed to be done in weeks took months. It wasn't easy, but I think it was suffering well spent."

At the core of 'Suffer & Become' lies a profound sense of extremity and unease. This very essence defines Vitriol as the vanguard in death metal's evolutionary path—a sonic landscape characterized by its profound darkness, density, and the infusion of nanotechnological precision interwoven with intense, seething emotions. Not easy listening in the slightest. Since forming in 2013, Rasmussen and longtime co-conspirator, bassist, and co-vocalist Adam Roethlisberger have worked with a single-minded vision: to push the genre to its breaking point and invent a new uncompromising paradigm in the process. VITRIOL is a masterclass in pain – and that's just their jumping-off point.

Recounting VITRIOL's initial journey into the outer fringes of extremity, Rasmussen is characteristically thoughtful. "I was starving for something that didn't pull any punches," says Kyle of VITRIOL's caustic mission statement, which detonated into the realm of extreme metal with 2013's 'Antichrist' demo. "Death metal was important to me because it speaks to an aggression, a frustration that I had when I was younger. It wasn't just a sonic connection but an emotional connection, which made music almost a means to an end. What I saw happening in extreme metal at the time was almost a removal of emotion in favor of musicality, that fire, that piss and vinegar spirit. Basically, I wanted something that wanted me dead."

With 2017's 'Pain Will Define Their Death' EP, VITRIOL took its spot as one of the underground's most uncompromising exponents, leading them to join forces with Century Media. The resultant album, 2019's "To Bathe from the Throat of Cowardice," was nothing short of a crucial next step for the band and the genre itself. Decibel Magazine said, "Vitriol leave no doubt they are one of the best the genre has to offer, with shades of Nile, Hate Eternal, and Anaal Nathrakh frequently peeking through." Hitting the road that year, at first in Europe with Nile and then in the US with Cattle Decapitation and Atheist, and then Vader before the onset of Covid, VITRIOL was quick to establish themselves as much of an uncompromising force onstage as they are on record.

"Doing 'Black Seeds of Vengeance' alongside Karl Sanders [of Nile] onstage in Europe on our very first tour was nothing short of a 'pinch me' moment," Kyle recounts from VITRIOL's early touring days. "More recently, we were touring with Morbid Angel, and Steve Tucker, who is my favorite Morbid Angel vocalist, came out of his dressing room in a VITRIOL t-shirt and exclaimed that we were one of his favorite new bands! That blew my mind as a fan, first and foremost – a total 'Holy Fuck!' moment."

'Suffer & Become' is nothing short of a benchmark for VITRIOL (rounded out by guitarist Daniel Martinez and Matt Kilner). It's as dense and blackened as anything to erupt from Rasmussen's vision of sonic disorder. From the onset of the opening track, "Shame and Its Afterbirth," there's a new sense of openness, grandeur, and occasional beauty in VITRIOL's aural arsenal. "I wanted to have an album that had a stark duality to it," says Kyle. "Very high highs and very low lows. We're very familiar with the lows but not so much with the triumphant highs. I wanted the album to have more of a sense of optimism to it, both lyrically and musically. I wanted the album to convey a sense of optimism that probably gets lost in the black maelstrom that is the first album."

Produced by Rasmussen and mixed by Dave Otero (Archspire, Cattle Decapitation), 'Suffer &

Become' isn't merely the sound of VITRIOL upping the ante in death metal's musical arms race; it is also the sound of salvation for its driving force. "Living in the world of that first album was very difficult for me," says Rasmussen. "It's not a nice place. It was very intentionally imbalanced in the same way a horror film is imbalanced. I wanted a healthier world for me to live in, and I believe I achieved that."

Not that the writing and recording of 'Suffer & Become' was anything short of soul-rending. Rasmussen labored over the creation of the album in the studio, on tour in hotel rooms, to the point of painstaking obsessiveness. Kyle is straightforward about the grueling record-making process and its personal impact. "The record feels a bit like a Jungian Dante's Inferno," he states. "Plumbing the circles of my personal, psychological, and spiritual hell and then purposely refocusing it so it's not the unhinged, dark catharsis of the first album. This record is a lot more vulnerable."

Songs like "Weaponized Loss" or "The Flowers of Sadism" are what Kyle describes as a "dark baptism" in comparison to the absolute darkness of "To Bathe…". The sound of VITRIOL remains as joyless and dark as ever, but with a glimmer of hope. VITRIOL has taken its trauma-put-to-sound approach to the next level and discovered a new sense of beauty in the blackness. 'Suffer & Become' is death metal with a bloody, beating heart.

Ashley McBryde Performs on ABC's "Good Morning America" + "GMA3"

GRAMMY award winner Ashley McBryde performed on ABC’s “Good Morning America” this morning, August 7, bringing her No Depression-dubbed “soaring anthem of self-determination” and current single “The Devil I Know” to audiences nationwide. Watch her interview and performance HERE.

Chatting about the cover art for her album The Devil I Know, which features five representations of the different facets of McBryde’s personality, she shared with Michael Strahan, “The whole process of making this record was that we all have different aspects of ourselves, some that we love to embrace, some that we do not love to embrace. So this whole process has been about not just coming to terms with it, but learning how to fall in love with all those aspects.”

The Arkansas native also joined “GMA3: What You Need To Know” with album closer “6th of October,” a song written by McBryde with Blue Foley and CJ Field after the passing of one of her longtime collaborators, Randall Clay, with Field bringing in a song he’d started with Clay. The track has since become a celebration of self-compassion among her fans, with Billboard sharing “acceptance and self-assuredness flows particularly on album closer ‘6th of October,’” while Arkansas Democrat-Gazette calls it “bittersweet, John Prine-ish.” Watch her interview and performance HERE.

Named one of the best country albums of the year by Rolling Stone, Billboard, Slate, Paste, Holler and more, the cover art for The Devil I Know represents different parts of McBryde’s personality: Joan of Arkansas, the Golden Gal, Girl in Red, Blackout Betty and Ashley Damn McBryde. To celebrate each one, McBryde compiled playlists of her songs from each persona, with the full collection titled Meet the Family.

McBryde recently wrapped The Devil I Know Tour Presented by Ariat and will perform headlining dates across the U.S. through the summer before joining Cody Johnson on The Leather Tour this fall. For additional dates and tickets, visit AshleyMcBryde.com.

LEGENDARY PROG BAND NEKTAR SETS OFF ON A MISSION TO MARS, THE FIRST IN THEIR NEW TRILOGY DROPPING ON AUGUST 30

Formed in Germany in 1969, Nektar favored extended compositions and concept albums over the constraints of pop. They were among the progenitors of the progressive rock movement of the 1970s as well as the jam-band scene that arose in the late 1990s. Their sound traveled well to the States, where they enjoyed Top 40 success with “A Tab in the Ocean” (1972) and “Remember the Future” (1973). Nearly 20 albums later, the band’s artistic and personal charisma has earned them masses of devoted fans along with their album “The Other Side” (2020) which was Number 1 on Amazon Progressive Music. For over half a century, Nektar has been the guiding star for countless fans, leading them on mesmerizing expeditions through the vast expanses of the cosmos and the depths of the ocean. With their unique fusion of progressive rock and stunning visuals, these trailblazing prog-rock legends have ignited the imaginations of generations.

As they began the next 50 years of their career, they kicked it off earlier this year with “Journey to The Other Side – Live at The Dunellen Theatre June 10, 2023”. Capturing the band with a 2CD/Blu-Ray set clocking in at over 2 and 1/2 hours and spanning the band’s entire career with classics like “Remember the Future Parts 1 & 2”, “A Tab in the Ocean”, and the last to have primary member Ron Howden who died suddenly at the age of 78 on September 29th, 2023.

Listen to “Mission To Mars” below:

Now Nektar is broadening their horizons with the first in the Mission to Mars trilogy. Their first to feature new drummer, Jay Dittamo, alongside longtime members Ryche Chlanda (guitars, vocals), Kendall Scott (keyboards, synths), Maryann Castello (vocals) and original founding member Derek “Mo” Moore (bass guitar, vocals). From the rocking title track “Mission to Mars” to the beautiful “I’ll Let You In,” Nektar covers all the prog rock bases while venturing into some new melodic territories. As both Mo and Ryche state, “Mission to Mars’ hails back to Nektar’s early roots before prog music was even a term, a blend of rock and progressive elements that define Nektar’s musical evolution. From day one we had a special feeling about our new album ‘Mission to Mars. ’ We hope you do too.”

The band kicks off the next leg of the Mission to Mars tour in August.

FEDERALE presents 'The Worst Thing I Ever Did Was Ever Loving You' feat. JENNY DON'T

“Equal parts Ennio Morricone, Lee Hazelwood, and Nick Cave with a touch of Chris Isaak’s less romantic side… few if any artists are brave and/or creative enough to channel this ghostly, often ominous vibe into moving, sensual and stirring music” ~ American Songwriter

"Their most immersive and varied album to date, Collin Hegna and his merry band of music-makers take us on a fantastic journey... and on ‘Heaven Forgive Me’, Hegna channels the post-punk vibes of such bands as The Church, Pink Turns Blue and The Mission to our delight" ~ The Spill Magazine

Portland's iconic outfit Federale presents their latest single 'The Worst Thing I Ever Did Was Ever Loving You' feat. Jenny Don't, a song cast in the mold of the storied duets of Lee Hazlewood & Nancy Sinatra. This superb duet is from Federale's sixth studio album 'Reverb & Seduction', newly released via Jealous Butcher Records. Led by Collin Hegna, a long-standing member of The Brian Jonestown Massacre, this record marks the band's 20th anniversary.

Set to a Beatles-inspired backbeat and adorned with period-correct strings and pedal steel, this song is an homage to the sounds of 1968. A time when psychedelia, country, rock, soul and crooners all started blending together to create a melange of genres that could only exist in that magical point in time. Except it exists now too thanks to Federale & Ameripolitan Music Awards-winning chanteuse Jenny Don’t of Jenny Don't and The Spurs.

Often in the Hazlewood-penned songs of the late 60s, Lee would write about a bedraggled yet loveable rogue that somewhat resembles himself but notably this character is always down on his luck. And the object of his affections simultaneously mocks him but can’t quite give him up. In Federale’s “The Worst Thing..” we find Jenny Don’t taking up the mantle of the femme fatale that’s just had enough of her loser worser half. Meanwhile, Federale’s Collin Hegna goes down a laundry list of all the bad things he’s done (and there’s plenty), but somehow the worst thing he ever did was falling in love. Not even his worst behaviour (involving booze, drugs, gambling, and winding up with a bloody nose from something or other) can rival his moral ineptitude in causing a good woman to fall for a bad man. But Jenny has had enough of his bragging and excuses. She knows the score and isn't afraid to let this loser know who’s won and who’s lost. And it ain’t her.

For over a dozen years, Jenny Don't and The Spurs has been known for their high-energy Country Western style and captivating stage presence, having garnered a global following with their infectious enthusiasm. Collin Hegna also happened to record and mix the band's latest record 'Broken Hearted Blue' (out now on Fluff & Gravy Records) at Revolver Studios in Portland.

Filmed entirely on 16mm Kodak 200t film, the video for 'The Worst Thing' was inspired by the amazing one-shot music videos of the late 60s that were seen on shows such as the Ed Sullivan Show and The Tonight Show. Often shot live with little to no editing, they often featured minimal sets and creative theatrical lighting. With the performers often lip-syncing to their pre-recorded material, it was up to the camera and the performer to bring the performance to life.

This video involved three takes straight through so that the singer's positions could be shifted for the various points of view being portrayed in the lyrics of the song. The only editing entailed cutting between takes to create this effect. Cinematographer Joe Bowden used the Eclair NPR 16mm camera, created in 1963 in France - revolutionary for its portability and noiseless design, and  a favorite of documentary and independent filmmakers of the 1960s and 70s. Shot in Portland, Oregon at Desert Island Studios, this is an authentic representation of how music videos were created in the era the song is set in.

'Reverb & Seduction' is a 10-track tour-de-force road trip from psych rock to country duets, never straying too far from the spaghetti western roots that inspired the band many blood-moons ago. What began as an homage to those cinematic soundscapes of the Italian 60s has evolved well past those not-so-humble beginnings, with Federale now also drawing from wide-ranging inspirations.

Federale has carved out a unique niche within the indie music landscape, blending their signature spaghetti-Western instrumental sound with moody vocal arrangements in the spirit of Lee Hazlewood and late-era Leonard Cohen. With a penchant for the darkly romantic, our narrator guides us through these stories in deep baritone.. Distorted guitars, mellotrons and 70s inspired string arrangements sit side by side with driving drum patterns and moaning pedal steel.

Recorded at Revolver Studios in Portland, this album was engineered by Collin Hegna, Matt Thomson and Andrew Joslyn, who boasts five 5 Grammy Award winning albums. Mixed by Hegna with Jeff Stuart Saltzman (The Black Keys, The High Violets) and Matt Thomson, it was mastered by Adam Gonsalves at Telegraph Mastering. The album also involves numerous Portland rock-scene vets, including talents from The Dandy Warhols, The Shivas, Roselit Bone, Rogue Wave and Delines.  Members of The Black Angels, Mission Spotlight and Courtney Barnett's Band, plus Grammy-nominated producer Hunter Lea (Nancy Sinatra / Lee Hazlewood reissues) and Andrew Joslyn (Nancy Wilson, Kei$ha, Macklemore, Mark Lanegan),

Maintaining a retro vibe, Federale's records have always sounded period-correct for an alternate-universe 1971, where rock and roll never caught on. Earlier, the band shared the singles 'Heaven Forgive Me', 'No Strangers' and 'Advice From A Stranger'.

'Reverb & Seduction' is out now everywhere digitally, including Apple Music, Spotify, Tidal and Band camp. Also released on CD and limited edition vinyl, the album available from fine record dealers and via Band camp.

Ashley McBryde Performs on ABC's "Good Morning America" + "GMA3" Tomorrow, 8/7

Following her hosting duties for ABC’s CMA Fest special, GRAMMY award winner Ashley McBryde is set to perform her current single “The Devil I Know” on “Good Morning America” and album closer “6th of October” on “GMA3: What You Need To Know” tomorrow, August. 7.

“Ashley McBryde writes about the outcasts – the best characters in her songs are downtrodden, stuck, and determined as ever. ‘The Devil I Know’ is an anthem for all of them,” lauds Vulture, naming the title track from her critically acclaimed album as one of the best songs of the year.

“6th of October” was written with Blue Foley and CJ Field after the passing of one of McBryde’s longtime collaborators, Randall Clay, with Field bringing in a song he’d started with Clay. The track has since become a celebration of self-compassion among her fans, with Billboard sharing “acceptance and self-assuredness flows particularly on album closer ‘6th of October,’” while Arkansas Democrat-Gazette calls it “bittersweet, John Prine-ish.”

Named one of the best country albums of the year by Rolling Stone, Billboard, Slate, Paste, Holler and more, the cover art for The Devil I Know includes five representations of the different facets of McBryde’s personality: Joan of Arkansas, the Golden Gal, Girl in Red, Blackout Betty and Ashley Damn McBryde.

Levi Hummon Premieres "Make It Love" Official Music Video on CMT

Fresh off the release of his powerful and hopeful new song “Make It Love,” Red Van Records artist Levi Hummon teams up with CMT to premiere a captivating music video that radiates vibrancy and emotion. Available on all platforms today, the video starts with a monochromatic palette, but as the song builds, the visuals transform, blooming into a kaleidoscope of colors that showcase the song's message of optimism and connection. Directed by Nikki Fletcher, watch the video below.

“The video is representative of the simplicity and beauty of the song,” said Hummon. “It’s really just four layers of instruments and vocals, and the element of the string quartet behind me—I think it feels so classy, cool, and contemporary. The performance video transforms from black and white to color and has a Wizard of Oz effect. It’s super beautiful, and that’s what the song is to me. The video feels elegant, and I’m so excited to partner with my friends at CMT to premiere this video to the world.”

“Make It Love” embodies the enduring power of love. Co-written with his father, Grammy Award-winning writer Marcus Hummon, and the late Andrew Dorff, this powerful love song is a much-needed reminder of the beauty and strength of love.

Music Row Magazine said of the song, "Make It Love," it is “a hopeful, moving pop ode to curing the world’s ills with love. Very, very pretty and thoroughly enjoyable from the opening acoustic guitar notes to the string embellished finish.”

In addition to the new song and video, Hummon will soon join his friend and collaborator, Walker Hayes, for select shows on his Same Drunk Tour. The pair can currently be heard on Hummon’s hit single “Paying For It,” which they co-wrote with producer Eric Arjes. The song has more than 30 million streams and inspired a dance that became a TikTok sensation.

Randall King Arrives At Country Radio w/ “I Could Be That Rain”

For eight years, Hereford, Texas native Randall King has been traveling the country, bringing true honky tonk sound to over 140 venues each year. Now, King is lending his neotraditional baritone to the airwaves, as “I Could Be That Rain” arrives at country radio today as the most-added single, with 35 stations spinning the song on impact. Listen below.

With nearly 400 million career streams across his growing catalog, King's first single at Country radio was written by Brian Fuller and Mason Thornley, and is the first from his 2024 sophomore record Into The NeonKing’s vocal delivery captures the pain of unanswered calls and lonely thoughts.

“Man, I’m pumped! I’ve been eager, and patient, for this opportunity my whole career and I am ready to ride those air waves,” King shares. “It’s something I’ve dreamed of since I was a kid, listening to Strait and Alan on the airwaves, mimicking they’re singing in the side mirror from the passenger seat. This is ‘all I’ve ever wanted, so I’m chasing that neon rainbow’ now!”

Into The Neon, which arrived in January via Warner Music Nashville, was praised by Billboard for King’s “smooth vocal styling,” while Texas Monthly declared “his Texas bona fides are unimpeachable” and Holler lauded King as “the genre's neo-traditional figurehead.”

King is gearing up for his 10-show Into The Neon - International Tour, kicking off August 18 with a sold-out show in Oslo, Norway, and additional sold-out stops in Copenhagen, Denmark; Amsterdam, Netherlands and more.

In September, King will bring his annual KingFest back to the Nashville Palace, with special guests Walker Montgomery and Brian Fuller on Sept. 13, and Braxton Keith and Mackenzie Porter on Sept. 14.

About Randall King:
A West Texas native and self-described “old soul," Warner Music Nashville's Randall King has never wavered in his honky-tonk allegiance – in fact, he’s worn it like a badge of honor, growing with pride into a leading voice for today’s traditional country. Amassing nearly 400 Million streams with singles like “You In A Honky Tonk,” “Hey Cowgirl” and “Mirror, Mirror,” he’s kept the twang alive in country’s mainstream while also earning acclaim through deeply personal EPs like 2020’s Leanna, and his 2022 major label album debut, Shot Glass – which landed on both Whiskey Riff’s Top 40 Country Albums of 2022 and Billboard’s All Genre 50 Best Albums of 2022 (So Far). Schooled on icons like Keith Whitley, George Strait, Alan Jackson and John Anderson, but inspired by modern masters like Dierks Bentley and Gary Allan, King first built an independent, grass-roots following on the strength of his electrifying live shows – each one a harrowing mix of rowdy roughnecking, romantic tenderness and breathtaking emotion – never asking for permission to explore his creative vision. He has since gone on to headline all across the U.S., the U.K. and Europe, where he continues to play nearly 150 shows a year and hone his craft where it matters most. Named a Country Artist to Watch by everyone from Pandora and Country Now to Music Mayhem Magazine, his sophomore major label album Into the Neon, available now, takes that craft to the next level, as King’s neo-traditional roots meet the blood-pumping rhythms and sharp, arena-sized grooves of Y2K-era country and beyond. Co-produced by King and Jared Conrad, and featuring 18 tracks, punchy sounds exist side-by-side with timeless swagger, further blurring the line between yesteryear and today – even as King renews his forever-country vows.

SMILE EMPTY SOUL is a hard rock band that originated in Los Angeles, CA in the late 1990’s and has stayed true to their brand of “no bullshit”, “real as it gets” hard rock to this day. The band signed a major label record deal in 2003 to release their self-titled debut album in May of that year. They realized huge success at alternative radio, rock radio, and the music video channels that have since fallen by the wayside or turned into reality show networks.

After 3 very successful singles/videos and a gold record from the debut release, the band ran into trouble with their record company (which was in the midst of turmoil at the top levels) and found themselves working extra hard in the trenches, and signed to indie labels or no label at all from then on.

This would become SMILE EMPTY SOUL’s destiny, as they have gone on to release many more albums and EP’s on various labels, as well as their own company “smile empty music inc”. The band released their 9th full length record Black Pilled on October 12th of 2021 completely on their own.

“Smile” has become known for its constant touring and never wavering honest sound/lyrics. They’ve never changed for anybody, and turned down many opportunities to “sell out” because it’s not who they are.

With a new album, and just as much drive as they had starting out 20 years ago, this band looks to continue to build on the legacy they’ve created as one of the hardest working, and most underrated bands in rock and roll.

The band has recently partnered with TLG|ZOID / Virgin Music Group to release new music. Denny Sanders (The Label Group) and Sean Danielsen previously partnered on the successful release of Consciousness. Released in 2009 the record has become second only to the band's debut release in popularity.

The Native Howl Release "God's Gonna Cut You Down" + Official Video via Sumerian Records

Purveyors of their own genre-blurring sound "Thrash Grass", The Native Howl has breathed new life into Johnny Cash's brooding "God's Gonna Cut You Down" with their fresh reimagination of the song and accompanying music video (via Sumerian Records). Speaking about the track, the band commented:

"It was a privilege to honor Johnny Cash by following Frankie Nasso’s vision for this project. This song and video have a very different tone than anything in our repertoire thus far, and the writing/arrangement process was just as unique to us. We are grateful to Jay Ruston for helping us capture the studio magic of its’ assembly, and create a new Howl soundscape, of which we are very proud!

After winning Season 1 of the hit TV series No Cover and signing with Sumerian Records, the band released tracks "Can't Sleep", "Sons Of Destruction", and most recently, "Mercy" featuring the inimitable Lzzy Hale of Halestorm. Stream "God's Gonna Cut You Down" here and watch the music video below.

The Native Howl is a genre-defying quartet hailing from Leonard, Michigan, USA. Their fast-tempo music they’ve coined as “Thrash Grass” combines the aggression and intensity of thrash metal with the precision and melodicism of bluegrass. The band was born from a musical experiment that defied all expectations by blending elements of folk, bluegrass, rock, and metal, resulting in a sound entirely their own. With a dash of outlaw spirit and a touch of the wilderness, their music transports listeners to a sonic landscape where the traditional meets the contemporary. From foot-stomping bluegrass jams to lightning-fast metal-esque banjo picking, their tracks are a musical thrill ride that keeps the listener guessing with each note. Their lyrics often explore the dark sides of the human condition, nature, and the trials of life, creating a deep and personal connection with their audience.

The Native Howl Is:

Alex Holycross - Guitar, Bouzouki, Lead Vocals

Jake Sawicki - Guitar, Banjo, Vocals

Mark Chandler - Bass, Vocals

Zach Bolling - Drums, Percussion

Trashcan Sinatras' John Douglas presents 'Oranges & Apples', announces North American tour in support of debut album

Acclaimed Scottish troubadour John Douglas, whose songwriting and artistry have been integral to the enduring legacy of Trashcan Sinatras, presents an intimate video for Trashcans classic 'Oranges & Apples'. This is one of 11 tracks on his eponymous debut album, released via Reveal Records.

It's been a fine year for Douglas, including a UK headlining tour, UK Top-40 charting of Trashcan Sinatras' reissued debut album 'Cake' (33 years since its original release), and a new Trashcan Sinatras documentary, produced by award-winning Irish journalist Ken Sweeney. Tracing their 35-year story, it features first-hand accounts from band members, explores dramatic moments in their history, and includes acoustic performances by Douglas of some of the Trashcans' most-loved songs.

Now Douglas announces his 'Lost in North America Tour - Part One', taking his craft on the road throughout October.

"I am so excited to be coming to the USA and Canada this year to debut my solo shows. It’s me, my guitar and many songs..  some new and some old with a new lick of paint. I will get lost in song and story and look forward to conjuring up the good stuff in North America," says John Douglas.

One of Scotland’s finest songwriters, Douglas will be joined for his West coast and Midwest dates by Lily Vakili of Vakili Band, a savvy street poet who finds the sweet spot between Patti Smith, Grace Slick and Janis Joplin. For East coast dates, he will be joined by singer-songwriteLauren Calve, whose new album 'Shift' earned her the 2024 Wammie Award for Best Country/Americana Album.  Together, these artists will treat listeners to an intimate series of masterclasses in musical storytelling.

Part of the 'Me & Midnight Sessions', 'Oranges & Apples' follows the first acoustic video filmed in Hyndland, Glasgow - 'I Just Want To Go Home'.  Earlier, Douglas shared videos for album tracks 'Lost', 'I'm Not The Fella' and 'Always'plus Trashcans classics 'Leave Me Alone' and 'Weightlifting'.

John Douglas shares, "'Oranges & Apples is a song very close to my heart. It’s a love song to a fellow artist… the late Syd Barrett of Pink Floyd. He ploughed his own furrow and showed all who followed how to be your eccentric, individual, glorious self. Stay true to you. Paint, sing, write, sculpt, carve, dance your own way through this playground. Hang on to your wonder at this world. Syd did. He’s away now… gone, but resonating on. As the song says.. now everything is enhanced by him".

His debut album presents an intimate snapshot of the talent, charisma and depth of this celebrated songsmith, recorded live at Kyoti Studio in Glasgow with renowned producer Mark Freegard (New Model Army, Lush, The Breeders, Del Amitri, Marillion). Reflecting Douglas' candor, this 11-track collection features original material and new recordings of fave Trashcan Sinatras' material, plus his own rendition of the Prefab Sprout classic ‘We Let The Stars Go’.

Apart from touring with his partner Eddi Reader’s band, the past few years have seen Douglas perform around the UK and Ireland, sometimes joined by friends like Norman Blake (Teenage Fanclub), Jill Jackson, Withered Hand, James Grant (Love & Money), and even Martin McAloon (Prefab Sprout), with whom he first toured in 1990 for the Trashcan Sinatras / Prefab Sprout double bill.

John Douglas' debut album is available on CD and digitally via Bandcamp, as well as from fine online platforms. US fans are also in luck as he'll be on his first headline tour in October.

Listen to “Fall of Summer” on the album Rolling Stone says is “every bit as legit as Jamey Johnson’s That Lonesome Song, Garth Brooks’ In Pieces, or Randy Travis’ Storms of Life,” HERE

“Across the 13-track collection, McCreery exhibits his continued growth as a vocalist and songwriter,” notes Holler. People echoes the sentiment, writing that the album “brims with a newfound confidence and maturity,” while Country Nowcalls it “his best record yet,” and American Songwriter declares it a “career album” as Rise & Fall finds him exploring not only heartbreak but rowdy nights, nostalgia, faith, newfound joy, fatherhood and enduring love, resulting in a project full of insightful storytelling. The album was produced by McCreery’s longtime production team of Frank Rogers, Derek Wells and Aaron Eshuis.

McCreery co-wrote 12 of the 13 songs on the album, which Billboard observes, “Light-hearted fare such as ‘Stuck Behind a Tractor’ and ‘And Countin’’ mesh with heartbreak brushoffs such as ‘Lonely,’ the bluegrass-inflected album-closer ‘Porch’ and the faith-filled ‘Red Letter Blueprint.’” It is available digitally as well as on CD and vinyl. In addition, Amazon is releasing a limited-edition forest green vinyl version of the album. Order autographed vinyl and CDs of Rise & Fall HERE.

This Friday, Aug. 9 McCreery is set to join Callista Clark on her latest release, the duet “Gettin’ Old” on the Dreamcatcher Artists label (pre-save HERE). Clark wrote the song with Averie Bielski and Karen Kasowski, while Joey Hyde and Frank Rogers share production credits.

Of the collaboration McCreery shared, “I’ve been a fan of Callista and her talent for some time, especially after having her out on my European tour a few years ago,” said McCreery. “I loved this song from the first time I heard it and was honored that she asked me to sing it with her.”

The two recently shot a music video for the track, conceived, produced and directed by award-winning film maker Roman White, which will be released in the coming weeks.
