Savage Lands Performing on Hellfest Main Stage

Loud buzzing is music to the ear of most metalheads. But Megadeth drummer Dirk Verbeuren and guitarist Sylvain Demercastel are so enraged by the sound of chainsaws destroying Costa Rica's ecosystem that they've started Savage Lands, a musician-run 501 (c) 3 non-profit.

Savage Lands have protected 60,000 square feet of Costa Rican rainforest using royalties from their music. Next week, they're planting their ecological flag at Hellfest with a little help from some of their famous friends.

Savage Lands Live at Hellfest (Main Stage 02)
Friday, June 28 @ 5:35 - 6:30 pm CEST

Featuring special guests:

-
Andreas Kisser (Sepultura)
- Shane Embury (Napalm Death)
- Vincent Dennis (Body Count)
- Daniel de Jongh (Textures)
- Silje Wergeland (The Gathering)
- Jesper Liveröd (Nasum)
- Alejandro Londono Montoya (Cultura tres)

- Chloe Trujilo

During their hour-long set at Hellfest, Savage Lands will perform classic metal covers along with other songs off their upcoming album, including new single "No Remedy", which features Heilung's Maria Franz.

Whether they're planting trees or holed away in the studio, Savage Lands foster the spirit of collaboration. Recently, they made history by signing a joint manifesto that addresses the need for forest and wildlife preservation. This marks the first time that three active Costa Rican / US-based non-profits have officially banded together over a shared mission statement.

"No Remedy" follows the same approach, though to different results than Savage Land's first two singles. Sylvain still comes speeding out the gate with another burning riff that will ignite the crowd at Hellfest, but this is the most melodic song they've ever written. When the band hit the chorus, the guitars don't crunch but crest into warm, washed-out power chords.

"That's one of the beautiful things about Savage Lands", Sylvain says. "As a band, we're not limited to just one genre. We can adapt to boost the strengths of whomever is joining us".

Black Bomb A experts know Poun for his explosive screams, but on "No Remedy", he simmers down in service of guest vocalist Maria Franz. Heilung are also partnering with Savage Lands by donating $1 for every ticket sold on their 2024 US tour to support their reforestation efforts, but their faithful followers might be surprised to hear that her soothing clean singing fits right at home with a heavy metal band.

"Supporting what Savage Lands is doing on the ground in Costa Rica was an easy decision" Maria says. After all, Heilung have a tradition of donating to tree planting initiatives. "But when Sylvain sent me 'No Remedy', there was a sense of melancholy to the song that really resonated with me".

Protecting the environment is the heartbeat of every Savage Lands song. "No Remedy" can be seen as a reflection on destroying the planet. The video was shot in an abandoned, run-down building that was once owned by Napoleon. But the song speaks to other human concerns. "I am locked in my head / And I lost the key", Poun bemoans, his quiet desperation only answered by Maria's haunting echo ("Never, never now").

"We are all helpless to stop the passing of time", Sylvain says. At the end of the video, the band members disappear from the screen, one by one, using an old-school film technique. "Each of us is left with only our memories".

Still, "No Remedy" does find a silver lining. "What do we need to live together?" Poun and Maria sing, their voices climbing, almost circling each other, before locking into perfect harmony. They might look mad as hell while yelling at each other across the kitchen table, but the whole video crew was in stitches after the sixth take of Maria throwing water on poor Poun. "Whether we're talking about the environment or our friendships, it's vital that we appreciate what we have during our time on this earth", Sylvain says.

Just listening to "No Remedy" helps support Savage Lands. 100% of the song's royalties fund the musician-run non-profit's preservation efforts in Costa Rica.

Donations can also be made at https://savagelands.org/donation/

Stop by the Savage Lands booth at Hellfest to learn more about the green zones, nature sanctuaries and other preservation projects that they're building in Costa Rica. Make a donation and receive the chance to win a one-of-a-kind guitar.

Artists occasionally support causes through donations to organizations. With SAVAGE LANDS, Megadeth drummer Dirk Verbeuren teamed up with his guitar-wielding friend Sylvain Demercastel to create their own US 501(c)3 non-profit.

Savage Lands raises money for reforestation and the creation of sanctuaries free of human destruction in Costa Rica. Using their own royalties, donations and other fundraising efforts, the organization builds nature sanctuaries, establishes green zones and other land preservation projects. They partner with other non-profits, scientists and forest engineers, as well as Decibel Magazine and Season of Mist.

"If you want to make a difference, take action! Our greatest hope with Savage Lands is that it will inspire you to join us, and if you can, to start your own initiative to help preserve animals, forests, and our planet", says Dirk.

"A blend of soothing acoustic rock melodies and crushing heavy metal" - Guitar World

"It's exciting stuff, really - often complicated without seeming excessive, skillful but soulful, approachable but not pedestrian" - Pitchfork

"Heady stuff...arch-synthesists, cleverly appropriating a number of familiar, inter-related genres to fuse into a seamless ethos" - Metal Injection

"Proggy, sludgy and downright rocking" - Angry Metal Guy

"When the riffs rumble out of the speakers, you're moving" - No Clean Singing

"Combining powerful drumming with Thin Lizzy inspired riffs, while sounding like the musical equivalent of Game of Thrones" - Echoes and Dust

"Parts progressive finesse, classic rock grandstanding and grass-roots bludgeon" - PopMatters

The rock 'n' roll landscape is still shaking from the news: after eight years of searching, Anciients have emerged from the Canadian wilderness. The heady and hearty Canucks recently announced Beyond the Reach of the Sun, their first album since winning the coveted JUNO Award for Metal/Hard Rock.

Today, Kenny Cook, Mike Hannay and their new cast of shredders are releasing a smooth but still positively crushing guitar playthrough for their new album's second single. "Cloak of the Vast and Black" sheds light on the darkness that nearly overshadowed Beyond the Reach of the Sun by blazing a new trail with the same spirit that's made them a guiding light for progressive metal.

Watch the guitar playthrough for "Cloak of the Vast and Black" below.

Beyond the Reach of the Sun comes out August 30, 2024 on Season of Mist.

Ask any hard rock enthusiast about Anciients and their shock and awe might lead you to believe they were describing Big Foot. The band left a sizable imprint on the scene after just two albums, but then seemingly disappeared without a trace. So what led them to go into hibernation?

"Basically, right after Voice of the Void was recorded my wife had our first kid", says Kenny Cook, who on top of vocal and guitar duties also handles the bulk of the band's songwriting. "She ended up having heart complications and almost died". Everyone is happy and healthy now, but caring for his wife and new baby put a lot of stress on the typically laid-back frontman's mountainous shoulders. "It was a bit of a road".

"Cloak of the Vast and Black" also comes out of the shadows. The first single from Beyond the Reach of the Sun began by leading us through a field of bright keys and folksy acoustic plucks, but this time around, the guitars are so dimmed with reverb that even the leads twist and turn as if trying to navigate maze-like cave tunnels.

"This song is about mental illness and living under the cloak of depression", Cook says. But despite the many bumps in the road over the last eight years, like the high beams of a monster truck, Anciients found a way to come barreling out of the darkness. Just as the playthrough video bursts into full-blown color, the band strike upon a riff that burns as fast as a stick of dynamite.

"Searching for a new way of life", Cook growls with renewed force, as if awoken by the sudden explosion of psychedelic power chords.

The concept behind Beyond the Reach of the Sun does venture into heady territory. Society is enslaved by forces from another dimension who are so towering in their tyranny that they blot out the sun. Still, at its core, Anciient's third album is about perseverance. Cook's road is a little easier to envision. "Working on these songs helped clear the negativity that had clouded my thoughts", he says. But the albums' narrative arc winds up floating in the same enlightened headspace.

"Ancient knowledge buried deep in the sands of time", Cook sings, practically beaming as Dead Quiet axeman Brock MacInnes shreds a dizzying alternate guitar lead right beside him. "Awake on the other side".

Of course, headbanging helped, but Cook credits his bandmates for helping him see through Beyond the Reach of the Sun. Mike Hannay can still kick down the door to any metalhead's mind with a well-timed blast beat, but by the time "Cloak of the Vast and Black" finally tapers off, he's locked into such a massive flow state with new bassist Rory O'Brien, that Anciients sound like pre-historic giants who've returned to roam the earth.

"The hiatus is over" Cook says. "We missed out on a huge block after the last record. But with a new album to go along with our new band members, we're ready to hit it hard".

FEDERALE presents psych-rock gem 'Advice From a Stranger', previewing 20-year anniversary album 'Reverb & Seduction'. West Coast tour kicks off July 12

“Equal parts Ennio Morricone, Lee Hazelwood, and Nick Cave with a touch of Chris Isaak’s less romantic side… few if any artists are brave and/or creative enough to channel this ghostly, often ominous vibe into moving, sensual and stirring music” ~ American Songwriter

"Their most immersive and varied album to date, Collin Hegna and his merry band of music-makers take us on a fantastic journey... and on ‘Heaven Forgive Me’, Hegna channels the post-punk vibes of such bands as The Church, Pink Turns Blue and The Mission to our delight" ~ The Spill Magazine

Portland's iconic outfit Federale presents the single 'Advice From A Stranger', previewing their new 'Reverb & Seduction' album, set for release on July 12 via Jealous Butcher Records.

Their sixth studio album, this record marks the band’s twentieth anniversary.  Their most immersive and varied album to date, with do-it-all frontman Collin Hegna at the height of his powers, this is a tour-de-force road trip from psych rock to country duets, never straying too far from the spaghetti western roots that inspired the band many blood-moons ago.  These musical homages involve a new lineup of well-known Portland rock-scene vets, including talents from The Dandy Warhols, The Shivas, Roselit Bone, Rogue Wave and Delines.

On 'Advice From a Stranger', Federale leans into their psych-rock roots. As a 20+ year member of The Brian Jonestown Massacre, Hegna has been party to a lot of feedback & fuzzed out guitars. And while the Pebbles and Nuggets oeuvre has crept into the works of Federale on occasion, it has always been as a background influence. But, for this song, the desire emerged to outwardly embrace the aesthetics of personal genre heroes: The Electric Prunes, The Pretty Things, and The Chocolate Watchband.

On this track, Hegna is joined by Jared Molyneux (The Shivas) on guitar, Pat Spurgeon (The Dandy Warhols, Rogue Wave) on drums, and Ryan Lynn (Mission Spotlight, The Needs and guitar tech for The Decemberists, Metric, and The Lumineers) on guitar.

Collin Hegna shares, “It's a mean world out there. If you don’t choose how you want to live your life, someone else is gonna do it for you. And you can bet they don’t have your best interests at heart. One has to be brave and do the hard things if one wants to accomplish anything worthwhile. And that can be hard when you're swimming against the tide. It's easy to get confused because there’s a lot out there trying to keep us all confused. To thine own fuzz pedal be true. Just a bit of advice from this stranger."

Since forming, Federale has carved out a unique niche within the indie music landscape, blending their signature spaghetti-Western instrumental sound with increasing doses of moody vocal arrangements in the spirit of Lee Hazlewood and late-period Leonard Cohen. Through it all, Hegna – as both songwriter and lead singer – maintains a strictly retro vibe. Federale's records have always sounded period-correct for an alternate-universe 1971, where rock and roll never caught on.

The ten tracks that make up 'Reverb & Seduction' were recorded at Revolver Studiosin Portland and engineered by Collin Hegna, Matt Thomson and Andrew Joslyn, who boasts five 5 Grammy Award winning albums. Mixed by Jeff Stuart Saltzman (The Black Keys, The High Violets), Matt Thomson and Collin Hegna, this album was mastered by Adam Gonsalves at Telegraph Mastering.

Earlier, Federale shared two singles - the lead track 'Heaven Forgive Me', featuring The Black Angels' Alex Maas, and 'No Strangers', a tribute to Lee Hazlewood, which involved drummer Dave Mudie, who plays drums for Courtney Barnett of The Dandy Warhols, Andrew Joslyn (Nancy Wilson, Kei$ha, Macklemore, Mark Lanegan), and Hunter Lea (Grammy nominated Nancy Sinatra / Lee Hazlewood reissue producer).

Ron Laboray of Little Richard’s Almanac, who animated the video for the new single, along with Niki Elliott, explains, "This song 'Advice From A Stranger' supplied us with a broader narrative, and we were able to let our imaginations run. We came to the idea of using Hieronymus Bosch’s Garden of Earthly Delights as a backdrop while brainstorming possibilities on a hike, as the painting connects well with the themes of god and forgiveness found in the song, and it’s weird as hell. The song's tempo had also led us to consider monster movie possibilities and, after deciding on the painting, the garden gnome emerged as a sort of Godzilla figure, the perfect hero to do battle in Bosch’s garden. 'Advice from a Stranger' is our favorite animation to date - 15th century and it still slaps!"

As of June 19, 'Advice From a Stranger' will be released everywhere digitally, including Apple Music, Spotify, Tidal and Band camp. The full 'Reverb & Seduction' album, out July 12, will be released on CD, vinyl and as a digital download, and should also be available from fine record dealers.

Federale's 'Reverb & Seduction' tour, which takes them up and down the U.S. West coast and beyond, kicks off in Portland on July 12 with their album release show. A European tour is anticipated in late fall 2024.

Eyes Like Midnight Drop "Bad Love" Following the Success of Debut Single "Digital Deity"

STREAM Eyes Like Midnight

Hot on the heels of their successful debut single "Digital Deity," emerging rock sensation Eyes Like Midnight announced the release of their second single, "Bad Love." Following the April 18th release of "Digital Deity" to streaming platforms globally, the track has been in full rotation on Sirius XM's Octane and has garnered significant airplay on FM radio. The track has also received notable placements on both the Decibeland New Rock Pandora playlists further cementing Eyes Like Midnight's place in the modern rock landscape.

"Bad Love" takes a different approach sonically, incorporating elements of synthwave and modern pop with a brutal metalcore breakdown. The track shows the diversity and range the band is capable of.

In addition, Eyes Like Midnight will take the stage at Rock Fest in Cadott, WI, on July 20th.

Welcome to the new world.

In this age of artificial intelligence, rapid change and dynamic evolution are inevitable.

Trends and bands come and go with the hyper-speed of information flow. After 10+ years and nearly 700 live shows all across America, the dissolution of vocalist/songwriter Robert Cosgrove’s band Sleep Signals in 2023 gave birth to something new and noteworthy - and in 2024, it emerged as a fully evolved idea.

EYES LIKE MIDNIGHT signifies the dawn of a new era, where his seemingly-limitless ability to create is no longer bound by the constraints of staying within formula. “Starting over has allowed me to be much more dynamic and to incorporate different sounds into the framework of my music”, explains Cosgrove.

Recording 15 new songs in three multi-week, intense sessions at producer Chris Dawson’s Aphiotic Studios in rural Kansas, Robert and his co-writers spent eight weeks writing and tracking the music that would ultimately encapsulate the beginning of EYES LIKE MIDNIGHT.

As the first phase of the band’s live WATCHES are confirmed, more new music and content will be unveiled. Even in the darkest of nights, there is always a glimmer of hope to be found. EYES LIKE MIDNIGHT are cutting through the darkness with a beacon of clarity.

Eyes Like Midnight Show Dates:

7.19.24 Davenport, IA @ The Village Theatre
7.20.24 Cadott, WI @ Rock Fest w/ Jelly Roll, Chevelle

Eyes Like Midnight:

MORTIIS Announces BRIGHTER DEATH NOW as Direct Support for Upcoming Tour, Announces Additional Dates

Dungeon synth master MORTIIS is pleased to welcome BRIGHTER DEATH NOW as direct support for the upcoming North American "The Dungeons are Calling" headlining tour, who will be performing parts of his "Necrose Evangelicum" album from 1995 for this tour for the first time! The band will join from the tour kickoff through the Los Angeles stop on September 21. Local openers will also be added, which are handpicked by Mortiis himself!

In addition, a performance has been added to Albuquerque, NM to the previously announced routing and has updated venues in Los Angeles, CA and Houston, TX. The tour will be in celebration of MORTIIS' seminal 1993 album, 'Født Til Å Herske,' which played a significant role in popularizing the dungeon synth genre and was re-recorded in 2023. The new itinerary can be found below while tickets can be found HERE.

MORTIIS live soundscape will be accompanied with visuals created by renowned artist and illustrator David Thierree, known for his work with Mortiis, Behemoth, and others.

MORTIIS comments:

“The circle comes unbroken once more, as we’ve evoked the ghosts of 'Født Til Å Herske' and 'Necrose Evangelicum.' I’m beyond excited to have reconnected with Roger Karmanik, in this quest to reawaken our shared past of a quarter century ago. I have reinforced, and iron-clad the sound of 'Født Til Å Herske,' while the sound of Brighter Death Now´s 'Necrose Evangelicum' will send your soul screaming into oblivion.”

Roger Karmanik of BRIGHTER DEATH NOW adds:

“Life just turns in the most curious ways! Heading off on a US-tour with my old friend Håvard is one of these. Releasing 3 of his early albums on my label Cold Meat Industry in the 90’s as well as having Mortiis as cooperation on the Brighter Death Now album 'Necrose Evangelicum' leaves no better option than to reinvent this for me groundbreaking album and to perform it live for the first time ever. Death Industrial meets Dark Dungeon! Free your soul, let the body burn!”

Previously announced support for the tour includes Sombre Arcane (September 4-17), Malfet (September 14 - 28), and appearances by Fogweaver in Denver, CO and Albuquerque, NM.

Milwaukee Metal Festival 2024 conquered The Rave/Eagles Ballroom in Milwaukee, WI last month with so many epic performances and surprises! Festivities kicked off with the pre-party on Thursday, May 16, with a headlining set from JASTA and Friends, in which Jamey Jasta joined forces with Bobby Blitz, Zetro, Bobby Hambel, Danny Diablo, and Hoya Roc, in which they rocked the house with original songs and fan favorites!

The three day festival kicked off on Friday afternoon, with fans lined up around the block to catch the openers, packing out the room from wall to wall for the first Century Media set of the day by USBM masters UADA. As No Echo writes, "the precision they brought to the stage showcased how a band listed as an 'opener' can perform like they are the only band on the lineup." The day was jammed with a mix of black metal, death metal, thrash, and of course, an epic block of power metal to close the evening from Hammerfall, Symphony X, Doro, Kamelot, and the weekend's first headliner, Blind Guardian.

Saturday also started with a bang, with newcomers Morbikon setting the tone for the day with their rip roaring energy and blackened speed while Long Island hardcore horde Internal Bleeding got interactive with the crowd, leaving the stage behind as they took the floor alongside the audience for their brutalizing showcase. Meanwhile, the crowd surfers never stopped and trash cans were affectionately thrown around during Municipal Waste's now legendary performance, only rivaled by the Dunable Guitars/MartyrStore.net headliners, Belushi Speed Ball, whose set was described by Metal Insider as "an all-out (NERF) war in the bar, with people throwing trash cans, toilet paper, and assorted other objects around in a moshpit that filled most of the space."

Of course, highlights also include The Red Chord's flawless performance, the long-awaited reunion of Soilent Green, epic album plays by Death to All and Terrorizer, and of course, co-organizer Jamey Jasta's own Hatebreed who really delivered the PMA. Katatonia adapted to a new guitarist as one of their own had travel issues, but the fans were still moved nevertheless by their somber and beautiful music while Mr. Bungle closed out the night with their legendary lineup and a mix of originals and covers.

Despite the relentless energy exerted from the fans over the first few days, they did not at all slow down by the final day. With hangovers and bangovers, festival goers once again arrived bright and early for Sunday's openers, with death metal newcomers Stabbing and Milwaukee mainstays Casket Robbery stealing the early show with their blistering brutality. Death to All returned for a second album play, this time to a larger room, setting the tone for an epic second half of the final day with stunners like Gatecreeper, I Am Morbid, Lacuna Coil, Avatar, Skeletal Remains, In Flames, and Slaughter to Prevail made sure the festival ended with a bang!

As Knotfest eloquently stated on the festival's conclusion, "Framing the scope of the festival - with a reverence for the classics while still nurturing the contemporary - the final day of Milwaukee Metal Fest perfectly summarized the bigger picture in resurrecting the festival brand. Combining the classic with contemporary, year two further asserted the importance of the fest and properly set the stage for the next edition in 2025."

Never one to rest on his laurels, the road warrior is keeping his foot on the gas in 2024 and will be burning up the blacktop once again with his headlining Black Bandana Tour.

Kent will be joined by Braxton Keith, Kaitlin Butts, Max McNown, Karley Scott Collins and Lauren Watkins on select dates. The headlining international tour will kick-off in Paso Robles California on Sept. 21, and trek across both the U.S. and U.K. with stops in New York, Boston, Atlanta, Dublin, London and more into early 2025.

Drawing inspiration from The Eagles, Keith Richards, Turnpike Troubadours and more, Kent’s bandana-wearing Rock ‘N’ Roll spirit comes to life on the stage. And after over a decade of paying dues, his career has not been without starts and stops … that perseverance serves as the inspiration behind the tour’s name.

“It all started with a bunch of Oklahoma boys piling into a red van called ‘Rooster’ and taking any gig we could get. We believed our live show would speak for itself, and we’d hustle to the merch table after our set to sling t-shirts in hopes of making enough to fill up the van to get to the next show. All those sleepless nights in the van, all the opening slots, all the miles, all the shirt slinging, all the blood, the sweat and the tears PAY OFF TODAY!” Kent reflects. “Today, I’m stoked to announce our first ever headline tour starting here in the USA and then hopping across the pond! Time to make some memories.”

Kent finds himself musically at the intersection of rock infused country, heartland values, and red dirt grit. Still in his 20’s, he has built an incredible fanbase, developed his live show for the last 15 years, and is positioned as one of country music’s next breakout stars.

“For us, the black bandana has been what we’ve picked up in times when everyone thought we should wave a white flag to surrender,” Kent furthers. “I’ve spent a lot of years raising my black bandana high and letting 'em know that I wasn’t giving up that easy. I’m so excited to still be doing what I love and can’t wait to get on the road this fall and see all those black bandanas waving back at me.”

Last year the adventure-seeking road veteran joined Parker McCollum on tour in addition to playing festivals and in front of 15,000+ fans a night on Jason Aldean’s 42-city Highway Desperado tour. To close out 2023 he headlined a slew of shows of his own before joining Ashley McBryde on the UK leg of her tour earlier this year.

George Strait: The King at Kyle Field is Largest Single Concert in U.S. History

With two new songs already available off his forthcoming Cowboys and Dreamers September 6 album, the demand for the King of Country has never been hotter as made clear at Saturday night’s show (6/15/24). The Texas native set a record for largest single ticketed concert in U.S. History* and a new record for Texas A&M Kyle Field for a single event** with 110,905 fans in attendance for George Strait: The King at Kyle Field with special guests, fellow Lone Star natives and MCA labelmates, Parker McCollum and Catie Offerman.

With energy pulsating throughout the bowl, Strait greeted the record crowd after his second song of the night, “I Got A Car,” taking it all in. “It's so good to be here with Catie Offerman and Parker McCollum - let's have another big round of applause for those two. And happy birthday Parker, my gosh, what a day, what a place to spend your birthday, right?

“Man, I wanna whoop so bad, but you can't whoop if you're not/you don't go to school here? (pausing) Can I whoop, one time, just once? ‘Whoop!’” to which the crowd erupted. “I had to do it - my son said it's okay if I did that, he graduated from A&M…

“We got a lot of songs to play for y'all today/tonight. What a beautiful night, too, right? We got some new stuff that we're gonna do also, we got a new album ... out in September called Cowboys And Dreamers, so we got some stuff from that we're gonna play from that for you also and we got a really special thing we're gonna do for you, so alright, what are we here for?!,” launching into “Here For A Good Time.”

Fans came early and stayed the weekend in the gig ‘em town, filling every hotel, bed & breakfast, and Airbnb within a 40-mile radius. Night-of-the-show, they were dancing in the aisles and rejoicing in a night of hit-soaked country.

Strait’s set included “Here For A Good Time,” “Check Yes or No,” “I Can Still Make Cheyenne,” “Troubadour,” “Amarillo By Morning,” and “Take Me To Texas” as well as music off his anticipated new album: “MIA in MIA,” “Three Drinks Behind,” Jennings’ “Waymore’s Blues” and the unreleased “To The Moon.”

Strait paused midway through his set to turn the stage just over to Retired Lt. General Leroy Sisco, presenting his 118th home to hero, Sgt. Tiffany Baker, via Military Warriors Support Foundation’s Homes 4 Wounded Heroes Program. Additionally, through an ongoing front-row ticket raffle fundraiser benefiting the Jenifer Strait Foundation, powered by Propeller, at each of the last 17 shows Strait has signed and donated “the shirt off his back” for the charitable initiative. To date, the program has surpassed $1.1M raised for the foundation.

Four opportunities remain to experience Strait and his Ace in the Hole Band live, visit GeorgeStrait.com for more information.

KENNY CHESNEY Makes Another Record: 33 #1s, but Who's Counting?

Having broken his single night attendance records at stadium after stadium on his Sun Goes Down 2024 Tour, Kenny Chesney extends his own record for the most No. 1 singles on Billboard’s Country Airplay chart. Reprising his beloved polaroids of life with “Take Her Home,” the East Tennessee songwriter/superstar continues creating songs that reflect how the people of No Shoes Nation live, breathe and love.

“It’s an amazing feeling, hearing the people singing it back to us,” Chesney says. “It reminds you how these songs really do hold pieces of actual lives inside them, how deeply people feel these records; they’re more than hits. But when you get that call, and they tell you it’s No. 1, you realize how many people are seeing themselves on the radio. To me, that’s why I started doing this.”

Having sold out Lincoln Financial Field in March, adding tickets and selling those out, too, along with Tampa’s Raymond James Stadium and three straight nights at Foxborough, Mass.’s Gillette Stadium, Chesney has spent 2024 connecting with his fans on a whole other level. Whether the shows, the tailgating, No Shoes Radio, Blue Chair Bay® Rum pre-games or sharing the stage with Uncle Kracker and Megan Moroney, it’s been all about friendship, good times and how life comes at you one day at a time.

“The energy and passion I’m feeling this summer is a whole new level,” allows the man the Wall Street Journal crowned “The King of the Road” a decade ago. “That heart and soul is so strong, it takes these songs to places we didn’t always realize they went. Last week when I was sick, they really brought it and sang with me in a way that changed everything.

“And it’s in songs like ‘Take Her Home,’ the ones that slow things down, where that desire to be in the moment really stands out. So, to stand onstage at Soldier Field and tell those fans their lives are No. 1, that this song is like them hitting the top of the charts? I can’t wait.”

Creating a space where people can be their best selves, BORN spanned the phases of life, chasing adventure and forging memories with the friends who know how to create the best of every moment. Having defined the sound of coming of age in the flyover in the 21st century, Chesney continues pursuing the best of what the world has to offer – and serving it up in song.

Playing hard and bringing a band that means business with him, there’s going to be a lot of reasons to celebrate in the Windy City. Once again presented by Blue Chair Bay® Rum, the Sun Goes Down 2024 Tour twists all the high velocity and screaming guitars to America’s favorite football stadiums for a night that makes summer official

In a world that seems to be spiraling out of control, Kurt Deimer is a man with a very clear mission: Work Hard, Rock Hard, Play hard and Spread positivity. In fact, his mantra could be summed up: “Take the high road, do the right thing, encourage others.” It sounds like a tall order these days in a world full of warring factions. And it’s an unusual mission for a singer/songwriter vocalist whose music could be described as hard rock, even heavy metal – genres that are not always synonymous with positivity.

Deimer, for his part, describes his work as good old fashioned rock and roll. “And it’s as good a vehicle as any for spreading good vibes” he says. “I’m here to encourage others to treat people with respect, dignity and kindness,” he says. “I’ve been through a lot of things in my life and I try to share that with others and be a beacon of hope for my listeners.”

That positivity and perseverance has paid off for the native of Cincinnati, Ohio. He’s not only launched a movie franchise, Hellbilly Hollow, by filming and starring in a feature length horror film of the same name. He’s also recorded more than two dozen songs with legendary producer Chris Lord-Alge (Green Day, James Brown and the Rolling Stones), his management team includes Brian Wheat, manager of TESLA who discovered him while opening for TESLA.

Chris Lord-Alge says he was drawn to Kurt’s originality as an artist. “I saw something completely different in Kurt, and that was the lure for me. He isn’t a typical rock or country artist – I love hearing him talk and narrating a story, and I was drawn to taking those stories and helping turn them into music. He’s a personality, he’s someone you want to talk to.”

Things have not always been positive in Deimer’s world. At age 20, as a young rock vocalist, he found himself in the grips of drug addiction. He later discovered he was using substances to medicate an underlying anxiety condition. At that young age, he quit drugs, got help for his anxiety and never looked back.

He eventually started buying and selling rental properties and used that money to start the first of several successful companies he owns. Despite making his mark in the business world, Deimer didn’t feel ready to settle down and “join the country club and play golf all day” – so at an age when most people start thinking about slowing down, he started to speed up.

Inspired by the artists that helped shape him – Boston, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Bob Marleyand AC/DC, to name just a few – he started writing song lyrics.

Inspired by his love of movies and acting roles in films including the 2018 ‘Halloween’remake – where his character was killed by Michael Myers – and John Travolta’s ‘Trading Paint,’ he started hashing out a movie concept that became his eventual Hellbilly Hollow feature film and franchise.

Deimer has supported Geoff Tate on an expansive cross-country tour that highlighted material from his debut EP, that came out on November 19, 2021, which includes a duet with Tate and a trilogy of music videos directed by Scottish filmmaker Paul Boyd [Sting, Deadmau5, The Cult] that spotlight Deimer’s cinematic vision and charismatic presence. Along with many other supporting shows including TESLA, Drowning Pooland Yngwie Malmsteen all this within the first two years of touring.

For Deimer, the inspiration is to make the world a better place one song at a time, singing about the ills of the 21st century and offering solutions instead of excuses. “When people listen to my music, I want to help them decompress and feel better after a brutal day. That’s what music always did for me, and that’s what we need more of today.”

About Jelly Roll:

Award-winning, Grammy nominated Nashville native singer/songwriter Jelly Roll (Jason DeFord) debuted Top 3 on the Billboard 200 All Genre Chart and #2 on the Top Country Album charts with his debut Country Album, Whitsitt Chapel (released June 2nd, 2023) - earning the biggest Country debut album in Billboard Consumption Chart history. Following his sweep at the 2023 CMT Music Awards where he earned 3 awards to become the most awarded artist of the night, the Billboard Country Power List Cover star and “country’s ‘most authentic’ new artist” (The New Yorker) received Billboard’s 2023 Breakthrough Award and the People’s Choice Award for Male Country Artist of the Year. Nominated for Best New Artist and Best Country Duo/Group Performance for “Save Me (with Lainey Wilson)” at the 2024 GRAMMY Awards, along with eight genre-spanning nominations at the 2024 iHeartRadio Awards and a win for best New Country and New Pop artist, Jelly Roll is one of three artists alongside Morgan Wallen and Luke Combs to have scored three Country Airplay #1s in 2023 and the first to do it with his first three singles. He has earned four consecutive #1s to date at Country radio and is “one of Nashville’s fastest rising stars” (The New York Times). A 4X winner at the 2023 People’s Choice Country Awards and the most nominated male at the 2023 CMA Awards, with five total nominations capturing his first CMA Award for New Artist of the Year, Jelly continues to break boundaries. His #1 hit single “Save Me” — a confessional, vulnerable expression of self-doubt — set the stage for his new season of life and took him to new heights including a Platinum certification from the RIAA on the heels of his 28-week reign at No. 1 on Billboard’s Emerging Artists chart. Most recently, “Save Me” earned Jelly his first ACM win for Music Event of the Year, and he just released his first single “I Am Not Okay” from his upcoming sophomore Country album, arriving later this year, following his four consecutive #1 singles: “Halfway To Hell,” “Save Me,” “Need A Favor” and “Son of A Sinner.”

Not just an artist but a humanitarian, Jelly Roll continues to resonate with fans on a global scale while racking up numerous milestones - from playing his sold-out hometown show for 18,000 fans at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena to donating a recording studio at the juvenile detention center he served in as a teen, to the release of his record-breaking documentary by ABC News, “Save Me” - the most watched music documentary on the platform - to his visits with rehab centers and those incarcerated across the US. Featured by Nightline, GMA, GMA3, The New York Times, LA Times, The Tennessean, Billboard, Variety, American Songwriter, CMT and more, his self-built, unconventional industry rise and unique fan connection has garnered praise from numerous outlets, with Variety noting, “for everyone who’s facing the same struggles, Jelly Roll is their Springsteen,” and American Songwriter echoing, “with a string of accolades and an extremely dedicated following, Jelly Roll has emerged as a force to be reckoned with in the music industry.”

It’s been a rough handful of years for British Columbia-based extremity-laced progressive rockers, Anciients. When the quartet unleashed their Voice of the Void album in 2016, the world appeared to be their oyster and things seemed ripe for the picking. They were coming off the success of their Heart of Oak debut from 2013, its ascendancy due in large part to a collective uptick in interest for involved, forward-thinking music. The public had moved beyond toe-dipping and tire-kicking, and were instead doing headfirst dives into exploring the likes of Opeth, Mastodon, Baroness, The Ocean, Intronaut and others who originally hailed from the extreme music underground, but had since grown, matured and scrubbed behind their ears to include heaping and healthy chunks from the outskirts of their record collections and influence pools.

The Band That Auto-Correct Loves to Fuck With™ shared stages with everyone from High on Fire and Goatwhore to Boris and Lamb of God, were in the midst of a European tour when they discovered they were JUNO Award (Canadian Grammy equivalent) winners in the heavy metal/hard rock category. The world was ready to accept Anciients into its welcoming arms. Anciients was gearing up to employ takeover methods, specifically their brand of thunderous rhythms and labyrinthine riffing bolstered by a road warrior mentality. And then, the momentum petered out and the band seemingly fell off the face of the earth.

Today, Anciients are ready and poised to resume their spirited quest for heavy metal paramountcy. There’s no doubt the band is back and with a stunning and beautiful collection of ten songs on offer in the form of new and third album, Beyond the Reach of the Sun, they are positioning to reestablish themselves as a dominant force for those who love windmilling their tresses around thoughtful tempo changes, complex harmonic layers and driving power chord shifting. But what the hell happened and where did they disappear to?

“Basically,” explains guitarist/vocalist Kenny Cook, “right before Voice of the Void was recorded, my wife had our first kid. She ended up having heart complications and almost passed away from it. We recorded the last record and once it came out, I was kind of just focusing on her, dealing with her health issues and keeping that in check. I wasn’t at the stage where I could be gone for half a year, especially with a new kid. Long story short, she’s happy and healthy now, but dealing with family issues was the main priority. It was a bit of a road.”

Adding to that bit of Anciients camp turmoil, guitarist/co-vocalist/co-founding member, Chris Dyck and the band parted ways in January of 2017. This left a gaping lineup hole at an inopportune juncture in the band’s timeline. Not only did Cook have to deal with the absence of his long-term song and lyric writing partner, but Dyck was also someone he had been splitting vocal duties with since the pair formed the band in 2009. And then, while helping his wife with her recovery, raising their new born and “because we wanted to raise our son in a small town environment,” the Cook family uprooted to Columbia-Shuswap four hours east of the Vancouver area, where drummer Mike Hannay, Brock MacInnes (Dyck’s replacement) and brand spanking new bassist Rory O’Brien still reside.

“We knew Brock from other bands he’d been in and we knew he’d be a great fit,” explains Cook. “He actually filled in for Chris on a tour we did back in 2015. As far as the vocals, I just found myself picking up the slack on both ends. It felt somewhat natural, it was definitely different. Doing the lyrics myself for the first time was somewhat daunting, but it was also something done out of necessity. But even when Chris was in the band I handled 80-90% of the vocals anyway, so it didn’t change all that much.”

Then, that whole COVID-19 thing you probably heard about once or twice hit in 2020 and put another restraining bolt on Anciients' activity, especially touring as the Canadians found themselves dealing with stricter travel restrictions and mandates than many other countries; most notably, not being able to cross the border for almost two years. Once the dust settled, Cook had to adjust to being the lone vocalist and how that impacted the material he was writing while navigating being creative with distance between Anciients’ members for the first time. Not a biggie, as in-person writing sessions are more of a rarity these days, but because of the time elapsed since Voices of the Void, things/interests/influences changed and the band ended up scrapping half of an album’s worth of material and starting fresh. When they put their heads down at the end of 2021 with the focus being Beyond the Reach of the Sun, what was revealed a year later was more streamlined and slithery, more chest-thumpingly direct, more epic and triumphant sounding. Riffs come in explosive layered packets. Leads, harmonies and melodies are more on par with wind-tussled mountain tops instead of sweaty bar shows and the band moves with finely honed, martial accuracy as conducted by Hannay’s rocket-in-the-pocket staccato swing and accents.

Songs like “The Torch” blaze with the shirtless glisten of ‘70s stadium rock power. “Cloak of the Vast and Black” swirls and whirls with a combination of hardcore intensity, grunge groove and expansive six-string parries. “In the Absence of Wisdom” is a hurricane-sized maelstrom of classic and prog rock elevated to grandiosity by a return to their growling sludge/death early years as the song/album concludes. The album’s first single, “Melt the Crown” mixes cues from legendary fellow hosers Rush and Harlequin, turn-of-the-millennium post-metal and the most psychedelic corners of the Rise Above Records roster.

“The new record has a lot more of our rock side,” Cook offers, “and leans towards those elements of our sound and personalities, whereas Voice of the Void was pretty crushing all the way through. With the new material we’ve tried to add more dynamics to the music and give the songs more room to breathe."

Album opener “Forbidden Sanctuary” is the soundtrack to exploration, of new worlds and sonic arrangement as sine-wave guitars pull from vintage Mercyful Fate covens and Krautrock communes with synths opening up novel textural avenues, as they do on the ethereal wispiness and space rock/sci-fi soundscapes of the instrumental “Candescence.” Beyond the Reach of the Sun sees synths and keyboards making their first appearance on an Anciients record and were played by producer/mixer Jesse Gander and Justin Hagberg at the former’s Rain City Recorders studio. In addition to augmenting the album with his skill on the black and whites, Hagberg — a member of the recently reunited 3 Inches of Blood —  also helped Anciients navigate a significant last-minute hurdle, one that threatened to pull the reins back on their comeback roar.

“We lost our bass player literally a month before we were going in to record and were kind of up shit’s creek. Justin also plays in a band called Ritual Dictates with Rory and is the one who brought his name up.”

O’Brien, a former member of Vancouver’s Bushwhacker, was absolutely interested when approached by Anciients.

“We got lucky and he saved our asses at the last minute.”

Cook stepped up to the challenge of being the sole lyricist to drape Beyond the Reach of the Sun in deeply personal expressions of the inner turmoil, fear and isolation he’d experienced in himself and saw in others over the past few years. There were moments where he didn’t know whether loved ones were going to pull through and what life was going to look like were tragedy come to pass. Mental health and people living life without being able to see any light at the end of the tunnel became a very prevalent theme to tracks like “Despoiled” and “Beyond Our Minds.” And while the line that became the album’s title is taken from a David Attenborough-narrated Planet Earth documentary, it speaks more to the coming and going of despondency when one doesn’t know how dark the darkness is going to get, as in “Is It Your God,” which pulls from the manifestation of grief and how it can shatter belief systems.

“That one is a little more personal to me and my situation,” Cook says somberly. "I had a good friend of mine from when I was younger pass away from cancer. His mother was super-religious and there were ideas taken from her questioning how could something like that happen to her when she had such a strong faith.”

The title and themes of stripped away hope and piled on anguish and tumult were parlayed into the album’s spectacular cover art. Created by Adam Burke (Nightjar Illustrations), the drawing is part-pulp novel cover, part-Franzetta landscape, part-sci-fi movie poster and all a vast illustration one can easily lose themselves in while the record spins in the background.

“We gave him the concept and basic outline of how we wanted the cover to look and he took it to a whole new dimension. It turned out pretty wild!”

With all being said and done, Anciients have returned! They stand ready to ascend the prog metal ladder and get back to doing what they do best with a weighty and dense, but wholly accessible, album. It’s a collection of ten songs that possesses the ability to have those furiously banging heads also tapping into their power of self-reflection and contemplation to ponder the finality of existence, the value of life and their place in the universe.

“Totally! We’re going to take as many of the opportunities that come to us. The hiatus is over and I think with the new members and everyone being on the same page we’re ready to get out there as soon as possible. We missed out on a huge block after the last record, so we’ve got to make up for lost time. Now that everyone is happy and healthy, we plan to hit it hard.”

Sanguisugabogg Share "Permanently F**ked" Video

Ohio's notorious, boundary-pushing, and bloodsucking death metal outfit Sanguisugabogg — Cody Davidson, drums; Drew Arnold, guitars/bass; Devin Swank, vocals; and Ced Davis, guitars/bass — have shared the video for the brand new and gloriously irreverent single "Permanently Fucked." The video finds the band in performance mode... with some bloody imagery woven throughout.

Watch it Below

"The meaning of the song is a drastically blown out of proportion way of showing how much you love someone," the band states. "We got inspiration of the song from the 2018 horror film Pet where Dominic Monaghan's character volunteers himself as a vice for Ksenia Solo's character so she can torture and humiliate them and they're bound to their cage so she doesn't free the urge to murder someone instinctively and doesn't get arrested or imprisoned for killing people."

This is the first taste of new music since last year's 2023's Homicidal Ecstasy. That album followed 2021's Tortured Whole. The band continues to slice up uncompromising, in-your-face, and not-for-the-weak death metal that siphons inspiration from early to mid-'90s and early '00s death metal and brutal death metal/grindcore presented in their own style with a unique twist that pleases every style of metal maniac.

Morgan Wallen Announces Special Guests for Hyde Park London on July 4

American Express presents BST Hyde Park is excited to welcome 11x Billboard Music Award winner and reigning Male Artist of the Year Morgan Wallen, headlining on Thursday, July 4. Today, we welcome more special guests to the line up, including Alana Springsteen, Alexandra Kay, Zandi Holup, Abbie Mac, The Halfway Kid and Evan Bartels. They join the previously announced Riley Green, ERNEST and Ella Langley. Tickets for this unmissable show are on sale now, available at www.bst-hydepark.com

Alana Springsteen is a young Nashville singer songwriter leading a new generation of country stars, having released her debut album TWENTY SOMETHING last year. She has been writing songs since she was nine years old, inspired by a Taylor Swift concert, even penning a track on her album called ‘taylor did’ in tribute. But she is blazing her own trail and her connection with audiences, both in real life and online, which will be in evidence in Hyde Park this summer.

Alexandra Kay is another young star for the digital age, building her career with millions of video views online before making her Grand Ole Opry debut at the age of 22. She has since collaborated with the likes of Tim McGraw and Randy Travis, played the UK’s Country to Country festival, and independently released her debut album All I’ve Ever Known in 2023, adding to her 300 million streams so far.

Another newcomer for BST Hyde Park audiences to discover is prolific artist-writer Zandi Holup. Reminiscent of folk heroes like Dolly Parton and Joni Mitchell, Holup made her debut last year with the song "Gas Station Flowers." Also on the line-up and waiting to be discovered are Derry’s teenage singer songwriter Abbie Mac, British-Sudanese folk singer The Halfway Kid, and up-and-coming Nebraskan Evan Bartels.

Previously announced is the first ever UK performance for country star Riley Green, Nashville's most unpredictable hitmaker ERNEST, plus artist to watch, Ella Langley.

Headliner Morgan Wallen says, “Last fall was my first time in the UK and man, I loved it. I saw so much while I was there, and the people were incredible. To play where legendary artists like Pink Floyd and The Rolling Stones have played is a huge honour for me and my band, and we can’t wait to be back.”

One of today’s brightest stars in music, Morgan Wallen has been riding a non-stop wave of success with a string of 13 No. 1 hits. His latest single with Post Malone, “I Had Some Help,” was a major hit upon release, placing at No. 2 in the Official Charts in the UK, while simultaneously catapulting to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 all-genre charts, where it has remained for four consecutive weeks.

Wallen's rise to prominence has been nothing short of meteoric. With The New York Times proclaiming Wallen as “one of the biggest stars in pop, period,” he continues to reign as one of Country’s top touring artists, playing to over 2.4 million fans. Wallen will bring the show to BST Hyde Park for the first time this summer.

Earlier this year, Wallen released Abbey Road Sessions, commemorating the one-year anniversary of his record-setting album One Thing At A Time. Recorded in London in the iconic Studio Two at the world-renowned Abbey Road Studios on Dec. 5, 2023, the digital series includes five live recordings from One Thing At A Time, an unreleased fan-favorite, “Lies Lies Lies,” and a never-before-recorded cover of British rock band Nothing But Thieves’ “Graveyard Whistling.” Watch/listen to Abbey Road Sessions HERE.

Wallen's authentic storytelling and raw emotion struck a chord with fans, propelling him to the forefront of the country music scene. Last year saw him release his third studio album, One Thing At A Time, which reigned atop the all-genre Billboard 200 chart for 19 non-consecutive weeks, tying Garth Brooks’ Ropin’ the Wind with the most weeks at No. 1 for a Country album, and was the most-streamed album of the year on Spotify. The album recently returned to No. 1 on the Billboard Country Albums chart for its 51st non-consecutive week, the sole second-longest command in the chart’s 60- year history.
