Distortion Music Group is Proud to Release the Stand Alone New Single "IKU-TURSO" from Finland’s Winter War Machine Wolfheart!!

WOLFHEART is set to unveil their highly-anticipated standalone single, "Iku-Turso,"in collaboration with Distortion Music Group. This powerful track is available on all major music platforms today, September 8, 2023.

Crafted by the talented songwriter Tuomas Saukkonen, "Iku-Turso" is a testament to his creative prowess. The single has been expertly brought to life by Saku Moilanen, who handled the production, recording, mixing, and mastering with finesse at DeepNoise Studios.

"Seems like with each concept album we make there is one story that is left behind and deserves a sequel to the theme. Our previous full length "King Of The North" was fully focused on Finnish Mythology and we did thorough job covering everything between creation of the nordic realm to the demigods of Finnish nature. But one truly primeval and malevolent creature, sea monster called Iku-Turso was left behind and now we are back to tell the story about a hunt of this beast that was also believed to be the god of war,” says Tuomas Saukkonen.

Finnish frontrunners WOLFHEART have proven themselves to be one of metal’s most captivating acts of northern heritage and one of the fastest rising bands in the international melodic death metal scene. Over the course of the last three years alone, the band has remained relentless with the release of their highly acclaimed full-length, Wolves of Karelia (2020) and Skull Soldiers EP (2021), gaining massive praise from fans and press alike with their icy tales of battle and triumph. The new album, King Of The North (out September 16, 2022 via Napalm Records), picked up right where WOLFHEART left off - taking every aspect of their trademark sound of colossal melodies, growling vocals and driving drum rhythms to searing new levels. Each song on King Of The North was dedicated to a different story of Finnish mythology - underlined by WOLFHEART’s grand, crushing songwriting and production. “Ancestor”, featuring none other than Jesse Leach of Killswitch Engage fame, is the album’s top frostbitten anthem, unleashing WOLFHEART’s most crushing blast beats and cutting-edge vocal performances. “The King” marches on, telling the tale of the forest god with horns and pianos accompanying heavy guitar riffs and solos, before raising the energy levels once more on the relentless “Cold Flame” featuring Karl Sanders of legendary extreme metal group Nile. King Of The North is a true masterpiece of melodic death metal, crafted with loads of attention to detail and intricate mythology-driven storytelling - showcasing WOLFHEART at never before heard artistic levels!

One story from the colossal theme album King Of The North was left behind and 8th of September will tell the tale of the malevolent sea monster known by the name Iku-Turso. There is various descriptions about Iku-Turso from a god of war to a father of diseases and overall it is truly primeval creature in Finnish mythology and definitely deserver and epic and thundering track to tell its tale and that is what WOLFHEARTdelivers briefly prior to their 1st headline tour in Europe in November 2023

Melodic Death Metal Unit WOLFHEART Releases Second Single “The King” + Video

WOLFHEART forms a raging blizzard of heavy metal with the release of second single “The King”, cut from their upcoming full-length, King of the North, out September 16, 2022 via Napalm Records! King of the North picks up right where their last two releases – Wolves of Karelia (2020) and the Skull Soldiers EP (2021) – left off, taking every aspect of their trademark blend of colossal melodies, earth-shaking vocals, gripping lyricism and driving rhythms to searing new levels.

Scorching gutturals from frontman Tuomas Saukkonen break through the ice on the new single as he is accompanied by epic orchestration packed with strings and horns. Heavy guitar chugs and powerful pummeling drums march through the track as Tuomas tells the tale of the hunt of the mighty forest god. “The King” is the album’s most glorious epic that unleashes WOLFHEART’s exquisite balance of grandiose melodic atmosphere with crushing heavy guitars and pounding drums, premiering today alongside a new music video.

WOLFHEART’s Tuomas Saukkonen about “The King”:

"'The King' is about a broken sacred rule that forbids the hunt of a bear in winter. Hunter was only allowed to face the king when it was in its full strength. Bear was carried out from the forest head first because bears spirit was believed to live forever and only dead were carried feet first. The skull was hung in a sacred tree facing east where the spirits were believed to travel. Bear was truly the ruler of the woodlands and especially the death of the king was full of rituals and beliefs. The song also introduces our guitarist Vageliss as a vocalist in a leading role and his magnificent execution brings Wolfheart trademark sound into a new level"

WOLFHEART Reveals Music Video for Chilling Acoustic Version of "Aeon Of Cold"

New EP, Skull Soldiers, Out Now

Order HERE

Exactly one entire year after the release of their latest full-length, Wolves of Karelia, Finnish melodic death metal mainstays WOLFHEART have yet another surprise for fans - a new music video for the chilling acoustic version of "Aeon Of Cold", cut from their recent EP, Skull Soldiers, and featuring the airy vocals of bassist Lauri Silvonen. The original version of "Aeon Of Cold" can be heard on the band's 2015 album, Shadow World.

WOLFHEART frontman Tuomas Saukkonen says about the acoustic version of “Aeon Of Cold”:

"It was really inspiring to dismantle a song full of blast beats, double bass drum, growling vocals and heavy guitars into a two acoustic guitar arrangement, leaving only the core of the song left and letting our bass player Lauri take the spotlight with clean vocals. Despite the contrast with the arrangements, the coldness and the somber mood of the original version is still there. We wanted to underline that with the video, so we shot the footage in the middle of the forest in -17 Celsius temperature."

The Skull Soldiers EP’s unrelentingly heavy offerings bring to life a sonic aura of freezing winter temperatures and the crushing weight of the Finnish army that was never willing to surrender. Melodic Death Metal Unit WOLFHEART Reveals Colossal New Single "Hereditary"

Listen & Watch the New Band Playthrough Video

New EP, Skull Soldiers, out March 5, 2021

Pre-Order HERE

Finnish melodic death metal mainstays WOLFHEART recently announced the upcoming release of their brand new EP, Skull Soldiers, scheduled for release on March 5, 2021 via Napalm Records! With Skull Soldiers, WOLFHEART continues the heroic battle forged on their highly-acclaimed 2020 full-length, Wolves of Karelia, with two new, frostbitten Winter War-inspired singles and two special rarities.

Today, following the recent release of the EP's searing title track, “Skull Soldiers” (featuring guest vocals from Petro Solovey of Ukranian band Wolfanger), WOLFHEART have revealed another unrelenting new track, entitled "Hereditary", alongside a new band playthrough video. Conjuring a frigid blackened metal landscape, the track explores soaring symphonics and low rhythm guitars backed by massive vocals, while telling the brave tale of Winter War warriors fighting some of the most epic battles in Finnish history.

WOLFHEART frontman Tuomas Saukkonen says about “Hereditary”:

"Musically, 'Hereditary' is a clear contrast to our previous single 'Skull Soldiers', which was our most death metal oriented song ever written. It's a melodic and almost heroically forward driven song that still carries the dark theme of the war with the timeless fact: When pushed far enough, everybody becomes a killer, and that wrath is buried in each one of us."

Pre-Order the Skull Soldiers EP HERE!

The Skull Soldiers EP’s unrelentingly heavy offerings bring to life a sonic aura of freezing winter temperatures and the crushing weight of the Finnish army that was never willing to surrender. In addition to two new studio tracks, “Skull Soldiers” and “Hereditary”, the EP is also accented by two rarities: the first – an eerie new acoustic version of the Shadow World (2015) track, “Aeon of Cold”, featuring the airy, chilling clean vocals of bassist Lauri Silvonen, and the second – a flawless live version of the Wolves of Karelia single “Reaper”, recorded during the band’s virtual concert stream performance that aired in 2020. Skull Soldiers is a must-have for diehard and new WOLFHEART fans alike, staving off cravings until the band’s next offering!

Saukkonen says about the EP’s concept:

"I did a lot of research about the Winter War for the Wolves of Karelia album, but after the album was out, a few reporters gave me some additional details during the interview cycle and it turns out I managed to miss some really cool hidden gems. One of them was a small "elite group", or "Winter War special unit", who called themselves Skull Soldiers – ninja level soldiers who painted skulls and skeletons on their helmets. I really felt that I had to write some kind of a sequel for Wolves of Karelia, and since lockdown brought a lot of free time, we decided to make an EP while waiting for the world to open up again for touring.”

He adds about the EP’s rarity tracks:

“The acoustic version of ‘Aeon Of Cold’ is something we have been thinking for a while now. Our bass player, Lauri, has an awesome clean voice and we would like to play a full unplugged gig at some point, and based on that idea we have already been arranging some of the songs with acoustic guitars. Since there are no gigs at the moment, we wanted to try out the idea in studio. Same goes with live version of ‘Reaper’. We did a multitrack recording when we did our first streaming gig last April and since we are unable to play live to our fans, this is the second-best thing we could offer."

As if announcing today’s new virtual performance stream wasn’t enough of an early holiday gift (see below for more information), Finnish melodic death metal mainstays WOLFHEARTare doubling their musical output with the announcement of their upcoming EP, Skull Soldiers, scheduled for release on March 5, 2021 via Napalm Records!

WOLFHEART continue the heroic battle forged on their highly-acclaimed 2020 full-length, Wolves of Karelia, with two new, frostbitten Winter War-inspired singles and two special rarities. The new studio tracks featured on the EP, “Skull Soldiers” and “Hereditary”, both explore new territory while maintaining the WOLFHEART trademark sound – searing through the mountainous ice with colossal, guttural vocals, driving blastbeats and rhythms.

Today, the band has shared a brand new lyric video for the title track, “Skull Soldiers”, featuring guest vocals from Petro Solovey of Ukranian band Wolfanger. Blazing guitar leads and scorching guttural vocals burn as Solovey and frontman Tuomas Saukkonen tell the tale of a small unit of powerful Finnish soldiers who painted skulls and skeletons onto their helmets during the Winter War.

WOLFHEART frontman Tuomas Saukkonen says about “Skull Soldiers”:

"I wanted the first single to be as heavy and crushing as possible in our standards so it would reflect the theme in the best possible way. The lyrics also are heavily connected to the Skull Soldiers themselves, and Petro from Ukrainian band Wolfanger provided awesome guest vocals in his native language, adding another level to the brutality.”

The Skull Soldiers EP’s unrelentingly heavy offerings bring to life a sonic aura of freezing winter temperatures and the crushing weight of the Finnish army that was never willing to surrender. In addition to its aforementioned new studio tracks, the EP is also accented by two rarities: the first – an eerie new acoustic version of the Shadow World (2015) track, “Aeon of Cold”, featuring the airy, chilling clean vocals of bassist Lauri Silvonen, and the second – a flawless live version of the Wolves of Karelia single “Reaper”, recorded during the band’s virtual concert stream performance that aired in 2020.

Our bass player, Lauri, has awesome clean voice and we would like to play a full unplugged gig at some point, and based on that idea we have already been arranging some of the songs with acoustic guitars. Since there are no gigs at the moment, we wanted to try out the idea in studio. Same goes with live version of ‘Reaper’. We did a multitrack recording when we did our first streaming gig last April and since we are unable to play live to our fans, this is the second-best thing we could offer."

WOLFHEART's most recent full-length album, Wolves Of Karelia, was released in April 2020 to wide acclaim! Just as wildlife itself maintains harmony with a violent clash of beauty and unpredictability, Wolves Of Karelia explores the band’s previously coined genre of “winter metal” – smoothly bridging a traditional approach of extreme genres while maintaining atmospheric and acoustic elements.

The album’s lyrical and musical content is inspired by the Winter War waged between Russia and the band’s native country, Finland, which took place during the winter of November 1939-March 1940. Finland ultimately managed to stop the Russian troops from invading their country. WOLFHEART mastermind and frontman Tuomas Saukkonen was inspired by the personal stories of local veterans, conveying the tales of what they experienced and survived from their perspectives. Somber, frostbitten and heroic, Wolves Of Karelia portrays these tales with stunning musical precision.

New Album, Wolves Of Karelia, Out Now via Napalm Records | Order HERE

At the beginning of April 2020 just as the world as we knew it began to change, Finnish heavy melodic death metal band WOLFHEART released their newest full-length crusher, Wolves Of Karelia, via Napalm Records. Today, the band has emerged from the darkness once again with a vibrant lyric video for their blisteringly heavy track "Horizon On Fire", cut from the new album.

WOLFHEART frontman Tuomas Saukkonen says about the track and video:

"Of the entire album, 'Horizon on Fire' is the song that best underlines how outnumbered the Finnish army was with only 32 tanks against over 2500 Russian tanks, 114 aircrafts against Russian 3800 aircrafts and manpower almost three times the enemy during one of the coldest winters of those times. I was born in the Karelian region and my father’s family farm is only 7km from the border that was drawn after the war, so I also have a very strong personal connection to those historical events. So, lines like below were written purely to honor the sacrifice of the generation that fought the war.

In the shelter of the woods

Edges of lakes and fields ages have stood

Winters fury on our side

We can't be defeated

We have to hold the line

This lyric video was done by our graphics guy, Nikos Stavridakis of VisionBlack, who has done all of our album graphics for the previous three albums. We wanted to give him a bigger role and get him involved in our video production too so he could bring the album graphic work into life in video format, and underline the Finnish Winter War theme even more deeply."

Last week, Finnish heavy melodic death metal band WOLFHEART released their latest full-length masterpiece, Wolves Of Karelia, via Napalm Records. Quickly following up on the album's successful release, the band has revealed a brand new video for the melodic head-swinger "Reaper". WOLFHEART frontman Tuomas Saukkonen says about the track and video:

"Footage for the video is taken from our exclusive virtual gig with few added camera angles. It was a very different experience and made us miss our fans in the flesh more than ever. Counting the days until we get back on the road, but in the meantime, the true meaning of the song fits well for this moment as well, as the whole world is battling against the virus."

"Facing an enemy

Greater in numbers

Superior in arms

Facing an enemy

Overpowering and grandeur

Superior in arms

But never in heart"

New Album, Wolves Of Karelia, out this Friday, April 10 via Napalm Records

Pre-Order NOW

Finnish heavy melodic death metal unit WOLFHEART recently announced the upcoming release of their new full-length Winter War epic, Wolves Of Karelia, out April 10, 2020 via Napalm Records.

Today, WOLFHEART has revealed the unrelenting, heavy-hitting single "The Hammer". A windmill-worthy intro is accented by sinister synth and marching percussion as the song switches effortlessly between black metal-inspired segments and melodic death metal riffage, closing with a somber acoustic passage. The video shows the band during the Wolves Of Karelia recording sessions with producer Saku Moilanen, giving fans an insider's look at behind-the-scenes studio footage. The video was filmed by Valtteri Hirvonen and edited by Winternotes Production.

WOLFHEART frontman Tuomas Saukkonen says about the track and video:

"'The Hammer' is the best song to describe the Finnish perseverance and willpower. 'Never surrender, Never retreat, The last defender, The hammer of the north'. Those lines really underline the fact that no matter what the conditions were, the enemy had to be stopped. Nature was the anvil and you had to become a hammer, and between those two, no invading army could survive.

With the video we wanted to reflect the brotherhood in the band and the crew in contrast to the wrath of the lyrics."

Just as wildlife itself maintains harmony with a violent clash of beauty and unpredictability, Wolves Of Karelia explores the band’s previously coined genre of “winter metal” – smoothly bridging a traditional approach of extreme genres while maintaining atmospheric and acoustic elements.

Listen to previously-revealed forlorn ode “Ashes” HERE, and the pummeling epic "Hail of SteelHERE.
