Metal masters OBSCURA have surprised fans today with a brand-new music video for 'The Prolonging', a standout track from their latest album, A Sonication.
The video was once more directed by Mirko Witzki (Arch Enemy, Powerwolf, Kreator).

The surprise release drops just days before the band heads across the Atlantic to kick off the next leg of their A Sonication World Tour in Mexico.

Dutch symphonic metal giants EPICA have announced that their monumental live spectacle, Live at The Symphonic Synergy, is now available worldwide as a digital album.

Live at The Symphonic Synergy was recorded during their sold-out show at AFAS Amsterdam, The Netherlands, on September 20th 2024, marking a monumental milestone in EPICA’s 20-plus-year career. The release features the band performing alongside a full orchestra and choir, seamlessly blending heavy metal riffs, intricate progressive arrangements, and grand orchestral compositions. This digital album edition allows fans to experience the full, immersive audio of this landmark performance, anywhere.

“I often write songs by looking in the mirror, but with ‘Lunastakaa’, the mirror became a window. The lyrics grew out of news stories about the abuse of power and exploitation, and questions about how deeply a person can be broken and whether there can ever be justice or compensation for what has happened. I love the contrast between the song’s upbeat, energetic feel and the way the lyrics twist that world into something grotesque – that’s one of the things I love most about Turmion Kätilöt. Later, someone also found a more self-ironic interpretation in the lyrics: artists turning themselves into commodities in exchange for money, visibility or approval. That fits this world frighteningly well, too.”

"The lyrics started from the saying, "It can't really hurt if it doesn't even draw blood," which took on a life of its own as I watched the strange world of social media and the way people speak to one another. The idea that words can't destroy someone is absurd. Most of us know, at the very least, of someone who ended up doing something irreversible because of them. From there, the story began to take shape around a person who finally snaps. Rage boils over from beneath despair as the situation hurtles towards its inevitable breaking point. Pain doesn't need a face. All you have to do is look in the mirror. Add a touch of personal experience, the title Raivotarjonta suggested by MC Raaka Pee, and there it was."

Swedish metal Heavyweights SABATON have officially announced that on September 11th, 2026, their definitive blockbuster album, The Last Stand, will be re-released as a limited 10th Anniversary Edition via Nuclear Blast Records. 

To do justice to this incredible milestone, the album will not only be released for the first time with all bonus tracks, but there will also be limited editions available featuring alternative artwork, along with live videos recorded at Sabaton Open Air 2016.

First released in 2016, The Last Stand conquered the world, cracking the Worldwide Top 10 and hitting #1 in multiple countries. SOULFLY Announces Fall US Tour With NAILBOMB And INCITE

Rising from the mystical Sonoran Desert, metal icons SOULFLY are set to return to the American moshpits this Fall, tearing down the boundaries of a complacent society. Joining this devastating lineup is cult-favorite industrial sludge/crust punk outfit Nailbomb. John has worked with Max and company multiple times before and is not only a talented engineer but a family friend. The album was produced by Zyon Cavalera and Arthur Rizk. The latter was also responsible for the mixing and mastering. Rizk has not only worked with the Cavalera family numerous times before, but has also helped to shape the world of heavy metal in the modern day. SOULFLY enlisted Carletta Parrish to create the album artwork. For the album, Igor Amadeus Cavalera (GO AHEAD & DIE, NAILBOMB, HEALING MAGIC) played bass and Mike De Leon played guitar. I love the vibe, very bouncy groovy NYHC that really transported me back to the 90’s - hence the lyrics/theme. To my ears, it has a 'nostalgic' feel but still manages to come across as something new for us! Made sense for it to be the second single to demonstrate the diversity of the album - the whole thing is a story, a ride of sorts and this one as the opener really sets a good pace sonically and lyrically."

Norwegian extreme metal titans Dimmu Borgir unleash Grand Serpent Rising, their long-awaited new studio album and first full-length release in eight years since Eonian.

The first glimpse into the album arrives with 'Rebel Kids.' An anthemic track at its core, it leans into the band’s classic groove and unrelenting energy while striking a chord with the new generation of hardcore fans. MADBALL's Freddy Cricien comments, "Funny enough, Rebel Kids was the first track written for this album and actually was completely put together probably 2 years ago … or so. The sentiment, vibe and message of the song really became the catalyst for what came after. We all loved the song immediately but I couldn’t have known it would be the first single. We have several songs that we feel could be first “out of the gate”.  But in the end Rebel Kids made the most sense musically, lyrically etc. We look forward to releasing this song and album. It’s a special one for us and we’re hoping the rest of the world feels the same once they hear it!"

CONJURER have evolved radically since the release of their debut album (Mire, 2018), and their second release (Páthos, 2022) saw them lauded among the most exciting British metal bands. Whilst award nominations and accolades accumulated, the four-piece band retained their very simple mission: to make heavy music and have fun whilst doing so. Diagnosed with autism at age 31, their long-held view of self, and perception of their place in the world began to unravel. Unself documents much of the piecing back together around the diagnosis, alongside the realisation they were non-binary. 
  
These vignettes of processing and self-actualisation take place against the backdrop of a society careening towards glassy-eyed capitalist dystopia; finding firm footing eludes many of us - and CONJURER delve headfirst into exploring these suffocating new societal parameters.
 
Within Unself's nine tracks, CONJURER deliver the writhing post-metal sound they’ve become known for, but have loosened their grip on the desire to fill every moment with sonic obliteration. Instead, they have leaned into utilising space, gifting listeners a little breathing room which serves to make the heavy elements feel all the more intense. 
  
A more direct, organic approach to songwriting was facilitated by the ever-strengthening bonds within the band, and the supportive environment created by producer Joe Clayton. Allowing themselves more time than with any previous recording experience, they committed to preproduction sessions, followed by an elongated recording period in order to do justice to the material they had crafted. Stripping back the excesses of previous outings to reveal their solid songwriting chops allowed for more clarity and more dynamics to shine through. To their ears, the mood, the core of the lyrical content and the music are more aligned than ever before. 
  
This record is the sound of four individuals living with more purpose and as a consequence creating with more purpose. Unself sees them reaching out to offer community, catharsis and connection. CONJURER remain true to their original mission - they’re still having fun, playing interesting heavy music - but now that music is imbued with the power that comes from opening themselves up to others, at first within the band, and now beyond.

This action-packed version was recorded early this year at the band's biggest headline show to date - a sold-out night at Amsterdam’s Ziggo Dome in front of 10,000 fans.

During the first Covid lockdown, bassist Rob van der Loo saw the documentary ‘Struggle – The Life And Lost Art Of Stanislav Szukalski’ and felt so inspired by his work that he wanted to write soundtracks for some of his sculptures, simply because each and every detail in his works are artworks on their own and their stories go very deep. And this is where the path started. Aspiral was born as an instrumental soundtrack to this world, an initially separate project that over time metamorphosed into the new EPICA record.  

The title comes from a bronze statue Szukalski did in 1965. If you take a close look, you can see snails rebuilding elements out of the mud in cycles and this eventually leads to civilization and a woman reaching out to the sun. It stands for renewal and inspiration – keywords that define EPICA now.

For more than 20 years now, EPICA  have been standing tall. And while already their last efforts clearly showcased their commitment to the game, it is Aspiral that truly distils the very heart of their trademark sound.

Forged from the meeting of two towering creative forces in Finnish rock, HOKKA unites Joel Hokka, former frontman of the internationally acclaimed nu metal phenomenon Blind Channel, with Pauli Rantasalmi, the iconic guitarist and songwriter behind The Rasmus, whose influence has helped shape Nordic rock for almost three decades.

Completing the line-up is the formidable young drummer Jimi Aslak, bringing a fresh intensity and dynamic edge to the band’s cinematic, emotionally charged sound.

With Via Miseria IV, HOKKA step boldly into dark and deeply human territory — an album that explores vengeance, love, grief, and the fragile beauty born from pain. John has worked with Max and company multiple times before and is not only a talented engineer but a family friend. The album was produced by Zyon Cavalera and Arthur Rizk. The latter was also responsible for the mixing and mastering. Rizk has not only worked with the Cavalera family numerous times before, but has also helped to shape the world of heavy metal in the modern day.
