Gaerea Release New Video Ahead of US Tour

Gaerea are waking into a new era. The Portuguese masked sensations are no longer strictly a black metal band. With Coma, they've surfaced to the top of extreme metal. Their critically acclaimed new album racked up more than 1 million streams within 24 hours of landing on Spotify.

"Coma, the quintet's fourth full-length, not only finds them sharpening their craft", FLOOD gushes, "but it also makes a strong claim as 2024's best metal record, regardless of subgenre".

To lay claim over their new domain, later this month, Gaerea are touring North America with Zeal & Ardor and Zetra. Today, the band are treating the vortex societies in the U.S. and Canada with a tantalizing glimpse of their striking live performance. The new video for "Coma" includes never-before-seen footage from this year's treks to China and Taiwan, though the title track off their new album also shows just how far Gaerea have come.

Watch the video for "Coma" Below.

Though produced by their trusted confident Miguel Tereso, Comabroadens Gaerea's signature sound by taking it in two seemingly opposed directions. The title track is one of the heavier songs on the whole album. Concussive drum fills open the floodgates for a venomous groove that shakes its scales like a dragon. But its tortured screams and piercing melodies reveal a mysterious phantom pain.

"This is the song that explains the whole record, basically", the band's unnamed vocalist told Apple Music. "I was thinking about how to write a song about someone in a coma, but they're still conscious of it. Because if there's no consciousness, there won't be a song. So, this is a bit like waking up in a dark room and seeing the whole word around you, but you can't really figure out if it's reality, if it's memories, if it's your imagination, or just your lost dreams in life. It deals with that anxiety of trying to figure out if you're really here or not, or if this is the afterlife - and whatever the afterlife might look like".

GAEREA Surface to the Top of Extreme Metal

Ever since they set the world ablaze, Gaerea have raised the anticipation for their fourth album to an almost unbearable degree. From now on, the Portuguese masked sensations are no longer strictly a black metal band. Instead, they are emerging from the underground and clawing to the top of extreme metal.

"As someone who's already heard Coma in full, you're getting a glimpse at one of the best metal records of 2024", wrote Metal Injection

Now, Coma has finally surfaced. Gaerea's new album is out today, October 25, 2024 on Season of Mist. Hear all ten beautiful and bloodied songs by listening to the full album playlist on Season of Mist's YouTube channel, which features several all-new visualizers.

As is often the case with black metal, Gaerea arrived shrouded in mystery. But while their identities remained hidden, the band emerged from pandemic limbo with a vision that was guided not by myths or pagan beliefs but a purging of raw emotion. Fear and loathing still pulse through their icy veins. However, with Coma, Gaerea have altered their stylistic makeup.

"In the depths of my mind / Where the dusk resides", their new album beings with a heavy and heartfelt sigh. Coma is the first entry in  Gaerea's mantle-worthy discography to feature clean singing, though "The Poet's Ballet" is neither angel nor demon. Instead, the way the tremolo picking twists away from the light into wailing dissonance sounds like a soul trapped in purgatory.

While produced by Gaerea's trusted confidant Miguel Tereso, Coma expands their signature sound in seemingly opposing directions. "World Ablaze" funnels their blackened vortex into a clearer song structure that's centered around an undeniable chorus. Even their most unsettling whispers were haunted by slivers of melody, but the new album digs its claws deeper into softly chiming post-rock. With its somber opening chords, "Suspended" unfolds like a wilted flower. That is, until the riffs come roaring into the fray behind an elevated gothic choir, bringing the band's level of despair to crushing new heights.

Coma is carefully constructed, but the moments of intense beauty only raise Gaerea's devestating blows. Like a swaying chandelier, the bridge on "Hope Shatters" hangs perilously in the air before it's smashed to pieces by a hammering bass groove. "Welcome to the urban abyss", their vocalist screams in bloody anguish, as if chained to the gates of hell. "Where dreams turn to rust".

The maze-like existence that Gaerea speak of on Coma is obscured by a depressive haze that feels like it will never end. Often, the lyrics go off in search of a greater sense of self, only to reach another dead end. "In the depths of bleakness / A glimmer of dawn" their vocalist cries out beneath the title track's unrelenting drum fills.

But Coma finds Gaerea asserting their new identity with even greater confidence. "Unknown" now stands as the band's most viciously catchy song. The hooks slither and shake to a minor key before worming into your ear canals with sharp melancholic pangs. Once the blast beats  suck you into their vortex, the band’s sheer artistic force is blinding, like looking into the eyes of god. “This is who I am, sublime”.

As grand finale "Kingdom of Thorns" reveals in all its devastating glory, the crown of excellence is a heavy one for any extreme metal band to come and bear. "Lone in the spotlight", their vocalist cries out above the album's mountain of a climax. But with Coma, Gaerea are boldly laying claiming to the throne.

To usher in this new era, Gaerea are touring behind Coma well into 2025.

First, the masked sensations will return to North America this November with Zeal & Ardor and ZETRA. Next year, they'll embark on their first headlining tour of Europe with 10+ dates across Germany, Denmark, Norway and Sweden.

The beauty of Gaerea lies in the directness and simplicity found within their florid tapestry of extremity and aggression. Whether it is in the less-polished aural dynamite of Mirage, or in the lustrous textures of Coma, Gaerea is building a mighty edifice of metal. With talons dipped in the inky blood of black metal and scraped across the flesh of human suffering, Gaerea is leading a charge into the future of darkness, and all those who find beauty and power in the dark side of existence would do well to take heed.

GAEREA Reach Dynamic New Heights on "Suspended"

"As someone who's already heard Coma in full, you're getting a glimpse at one of the best metal records of 2024" - Metal Injection

"One of extreme music's most commanding, compelling forces" - Knotfest

"...separates itself from the pack thanks to hearty doses of dark melody, top notch production and skilled songwriting"
- Decibel

"...builds upon itself until the sound and fury can’t be contained any longer, spilling over itself with raging vocals and pounding blast beats".- Metal Sucks

"Terrifying at times, but beautiful, almost like life" - New Noise

"Gaerea really aren’t like the other black metal bands...If you have any care for music as heartrending as it is heavy, this is a must-listen" - Angry Metal Guy

"...increasingly wizard-like and meteorically rising" - No Clean Singing

Gaerea thrive on the purging of raw emotions, but on their upcoming fourth album, the Portuguese masked sensations prove that they're no longer just a black metal band. With Coma, they're surfacing to the top of extreme metal.

While produced by their trusted confidant Miguel Tereso, Coma expands Gaerea's signature sound by pulling it in two seemingly opposing directions. "Suspended" is haunted by moments of intense beauty. The band's new single is accompanied by a video that's both stunning and soul-stirring. But the pensive moments only heighten its crushing blows.

Watch the stunning, slow motion video for "Suspended" below.

Coma comes out October 25, 2024 on Season of Mist.

With its sharp and slithering riffs, Gaerea's previous single spiked the anticipation for Coma to an almost unbearable degree. "Suspended" holds their captive audience in even greater suspense. Like a spider weaving its web, the somber, opening guitar melody unfolds with great care before the booming blast beats swallow you into the band's inescapable vortex.

"I stand at a fateful divide / where choices collide", their tortured vocalist screams as if dangling from the grip of a soul-wrenching vice. "Hell breaks loose".

The never-ending maze that Gaerea dared us to enter during the album's first official single is obscured by an even thicker haze on "Suspended". But the band stay clear of any stylistic dead ends. The blindingly fast tremolo picking suddenly relents, opening up a post-rock passage that twinkles like a dying star. "No words can explain why I chose as I did", their vocalist sings in one great, long mournful sigh.

"Suspended" stands as the first song in Gaerea's mantle-worthy discography to feature clean singing, but the soft shift only sets up the song's final knockout. All at once, the riffs, blasts and screams come roaring back into the fray behind an elevated gothic choir, bringing the band's level of despair to crushing new heights.

The video for "Suspended" was created by Guilherme Henriques.

To usher in this new era, Gaerea are touring behind Coma later this year. The masked sensations will return to North America in November with Zeal & Ardor and ZETRA.

GAEREA Show Their True Faces on New Single "Unknown"

"As someone who's already heard Coma in full, you're getting a glimpse at one of the best metal records of 2024" - Metal Injection

"One of extreme music's most commanding, compelling forces" - Knotfest

"...separates itself from the pack thanks to hearty doses of dark melody, top notch production and skilled songwriting"
- Decibel

"...builds upon itself until the sound and fury can’t be contained any longer, spilling over itself with raging vocals and pounding blast beats".- Metal Sucks

"...increasingly wizard-like and meteorically rising" - No Clean Singing

Though they formed during the most uncertain time in recent history, Gaerea emerged from pandemic limbo with a new strand of black metal. Instead of pagan beliefs or lo-fi fidelity, the masked visionaries were guided by a purging of raw emotions. The world has quickly come to share their vision, following them from the gates of Hellfest to tours across China and the U.S.

But on their upcoming fourth album, Gaerea are proving that they're no longer just a black metal band. While it still packs plenty of bloodied emotion, with Coma, the Portuguese sensations are poised to surface to the top of extreme metal. On "Unknown", they unveil both the beauty and brutality of their new identity.

Coma comes out October 25, 2024 on Season of Mist.

When Coma was secretly introduced back in May, Gaerea set the world ablaze. The album's first official single raised everyone's hopes by delivering an anthem for our dying era. "Unknown" heightens the anticipation to an unbearable degree. Like an out-of-body experience, the opening guitar solo hovers as if suspended from a ghostly height, grounded by a warm but numbing bass line.

The maze-like existence that Gaerea speak of on Coma becomes hazier on "Unknown". Even when the song opens into soft post-rock passages, the melodies are haunted by a familiar dread. "A mere observer, detached creature", the band's tortured vocalist cries out, as if forced to watch some other masked deviant write his life story.

But Gaerea know who they are. Within its many twists and turns, "Unknown" springs with more deadly hooks than a booby trap. The riff slithers and shakes with minor key tremolo picking before the chorus worms into your ear canals with sharp pangs of melodic distortion. Once the blast beats have sucked you into their vortex, the band's sheer artistic force is blinding, like looking upon the face of god. "This is who I am, sublime".

With "Unknown", Gaerea make their presence felt on the world of extreme metal.

The video for "Unknown" was directed by Claudio Marino and produced by Artax Film.

To usher in this new era, Gaerea are touring behind Coma later this year. The masked sensations will return to North America in November with Zeal & Ardor and ZETRA.

GAEREA Announce New Album 'Coma'

"These shrouded and mysterious artists may hide their faces and their identities but their feelings and passion is out for all the world to see" - Metal Injection

"Terrifying at times, but beautiful, almost like life" -
New Noise

Gaerea arrived shrouded in mystery. The masked sensations emerged from pandemic limbo with a vision for black metal that was guided not by myths or pagan beliefs but a purging of emotion. Existential dread still pulses through the Portuguese band's blood, but their upcoming fourth album signals a shift in psychology.

With Coma, Gaerea are no longer strictly a black metal band. Instead, they're breaking to the forefront of extreme metal. Though their new album was produced by trusted confidant Miguel Tereso, it broadens the band's signature sound by taking it in two seemingly opposed directions. There are more moments of intense beauty, but they only heighten the ensuing blows.

The world may be as hopeless as the album's lead single declares. But with Coma, Gaerea have returned to prove that they are only the band who can guide us into the darkness.

Watch the video for "Hope Shatters" Below.

Coma comes out October 25, 2024 on Season of Mist.

Pre-order & Pre-save:
https://orcd.co/gaereacoma

When Gaerea secretly gave everyone a sneak peek at their new album back in April, they set the world ablaze. Now, with the first official single off Coma, they're ushering in the immediate aftermath. "Hope Shatters" opens with a lone guitar that wails like a siren before a whirl of blast beats sucks the world back into the band's vortex.

"Welcome to the urban abyss", their unnamed vocalist pronounces. "Where dreams turn to rust".

Gaerea aren't afraid to embrace harsh realities. There's clean singing on Coma, but the swarming darkness of "Hope Shatters" is only punctured by cries of agony. Even when the song collapses under its blistering heaviness, the melody hangs perilously in the air, like a swaying chandelier, before it's smashed to pieces by hammering bass and concussive drum fills.

Still, perhaps Gaerea have uncovered a shred of hope from beneath the blackened wreckage. As "Hope Shatters" meets its end, the band push ahead through the ashes with a triumphant, headbanging riff. "Enter the maze through the never-ending haze".

With "Hope Shatters", Gaerea deliver an anthem for our dying era.

The video for "Hope Shatters" was produced by Grupa 13 and directed by Dariusz Szermanowicz.

To usher in this new era, Gaerea are touring behind Coma later this year. The masked sensations will return to North America in November with Zeal & Ardor and ZETRA.

The band will also be performing "World Ablaze", "Hope Shatters" and other songs from their new album at several European summer festivals, along with two special dates with Behemoth and Testament.

GAEREA Unveils Unnerving Torture Art Experiment for "Dormant," On Tour in North America Tomorrow

waterboarding

/ˈwôdərˌbôrdiNG/

noun

a form of torture, typically used as an interrogation technique, in which a person is strapped head-down on a sloping board with the mouth and nose covered while water is poured over their face, causing them to experience a sensation similar to that of drowning.

Would you submit yourself to human torture to go beyond your limits to expressing art? Voluntary suffering for the greater goal in pursuit of artistic excellence is what one of the members of cathartic black metal band GAEREA (PT) went through for the visualization of "Dormant."

The video (recorded by the great Claudio Marino, distinguished for working with giants like BEHEMOTH, WATAIN, SHINING) simply can’t be classified as a music video. It’s an eight- minute excruciating compilation of being waterboarded, trapped in a cycle of unending pain, with each passing moment feeling like an eternity, time becomes the cruelest enemy.

GAEREA comments: “Complementing the song's aural journey, the video art installation accompanying 'Dormant' delves into the anguish and struggle for survival. The visuals depict the main character, trapped and enclosed in a tormenting world, as water relentlessly pours over his body, simulating drowning and suffocation. This immersive and visceral experience offers a harrowing glimpse into the protagonist's fight for life, evoking a range of emotions and challenging viewers to confront their own mortality.”

"Dormant" had previously only been available to fans who purchased the bonus-edition of 'Mirage.' Now, the enigmatic horde is sharing the track digitally along with this masterful and real work of torture art. There are no actors, no gimmicks, and no special effects. The disturbing video can been seen below.

In addition, Gaerea will be unveiling a secret screening event to kick start their imminent tour in North America! The clandestine event will take place tonight, September 28, at the original Kuma's Corner in Chicago, IL! The event is free to attend and starts promptly at 7:30 P.M. and band will be present for a meet and greet with fans who dare to enter the vortex. Plus, fans can enter a raffle in which one lucky winner will be given a pair of tickets to see the band's performance at Metro on September 30.

Gaerea previously commented, "This is the death of 'Mirage' and the moment we start to let go of our world just so another one can be born. This unique event will showcase everything Gaerea has ever stood for. Get ready to witness something truly special, crafted specially to each and everyone of you who wishes to join us for an evening we shall never forget."

Following the event, Gaerea will be kicking off its North American tour with Wolves in the Throne Room, Blackbraid, and Hoaxed on September 29 in St. Louis, MO, which will then conclude on October 24 in Denver, CO. Tickets are now available and can be found HERE while the full itinerary can be found below!

Gaerea will be supporting its incendiary 2022 release, 'Mirage,' debuting a new live aesthetic! 'Mirage' was ranked among the best records of last year by Decibel Magazine, A&P Reacts, Ghost Cult Magazine, Sick Drummer, and more! The album is available HERE.

In celebration of the event, Kuma's has collaborated with Gaerea for a signature burger, which is inspired by the Francesinha sandwich, a comforting dish that is native to the band's hometown of Porto (PT). The Gaerea burger is modeled after Kuma's famous Slayer burger with a Portuguese twist. The sandwich has a bed of fresh house-cut fries, texas toast, an angus beef patty, sausage, uncured ham, shredded monterrey jack cheese, and a fried egg, all smothered in a decadent Francesinha sauce.

Behind black shrouds of obscurity and desolation, the men of GAEREA deliver their odes in cascading maelstroms of aggression and beauty. Emerging from the age of pandemic to whatever awaits humanity next, the Portuguese horde remains on the frontlines of the next generation of extreme metal. With an EP and two albums to their name, GAEREA has rapidly distinguished themselves from the thousands of bands toiling away in the underground. Brewing their cauldron of sound from a recipe of pounding black-metal blast mixed with a touch of harrowed, reflective longing, many devotees of the darkened arts have flocked to their banner. With the emergence of third full-length album Mirage, those numbers are sure to grow.

Underground metal itself is a strange and cyclical beast. Trends come and trends go. But at no point in the genre’s history have we borne witness to what happened to the world in 2020. GAEREA met this challenge by releasing their second album, the aptly titled Limbo, to excellent world reception. In the meantime, they found the total suspension of interactive life as it was previously known to be the perfect breeding ground for further creation and making. As the troupe’s main songwriter elaborates, “I lost two precious years of my life, years that I would rather have spent touring and growing as an artist. But they were crucial for us, these years, because not too many bands stayed relevant and productive. The pandemic gave us the time to make the best release we could. All the promo-shoots, interviews, videos, we all had time to prepare for everything. Mirage was the product of a sudden inspiration. The basic parts were written over about two weeks.”

Such a stunning admission goes to show that art is fickle, and the artist is merely a vessel through which the sweet sorcery we call music may flow. It can mute itself to frustrating silence – or it can explode into being regardless of all consideration. For this band on the rise, it is most certainly the latter. Sizzling with ambition from day one, GAEREA may present one unique face to their audience, masked and enshrouded, but the truth is they have not remained changeless. “We are not the same band who recorded Limbo,” he insists. “We are more eager to take on the world. If the pandemic taught us anything it is that nothing is certain.”

This lack of certainty plays heavily into newest creation Mirage. As its name suggests, the inability to trust what our senses are telling us could be construed as one of the album’s central themes. Rather than constrict their art to mythological references or anti-religious tropes, GAEREA instead plumb the depths of the human experiences of isolation and suffering. “The concept, the subject, of each song is everyone, you, me . . . if people were alone together in Limbo, in Mirage they are truly alone. Nobody is truly real until they are alone.”

If existential dread could be turned into sound, GAEREA have carved their own philosophical path through its stygian tunnels. It isn’t Satan, demons, death, or even suicide that is waiting for us there. “What if people finally reached their goal,” he posits, “to end their suffering, and instead of dying they find themselves in a new reality, lost in a big city they were once a part of – they don’t know if anyone else is still alive. They are alone inside their own world.” This theme of being alone in a world full of familiar scenes, unable to end things and unable to reach anyone else, might well terrify the listener more effectively than any glimpse into the imagined hellscapes of our nightmares. Being isolated in your own world is the real nightmare, and GAEREA strum the chords of this horror with nuance and a miserable grace.

Boasting a superior production that threads the needle between clarity and causticness, GAEREA unwaveringly admit their loyalty to countryman and producer Miguel Tereso of Demigod Recordings. “Miguel is fantastic,” enthuses the band’s primary composer. “He comes from a brutal death metal background. I thought if this guy can pull off a punchy, modern, but still authentic production with a slam / death metal band, I wonder what he can do with a band like GAEREA. He has a vision for a sound, and that is what I really like. He is not a black metal fan, but it’s this very external set of ears and eyes from a guy who really knows his craft, and he brings all of that to our sound.” The fruits of this union are quite evident, as the turbulent moods of the title track are so wonderfully tossed between tension-building moments, and the explosive payoffs which set GAEREA apart from so many who try but come up short.

Tormented leads and building riffs sit atop some seriously explosive drumming, waxing and waning, on “Arson,” a tempest of moods and one of the album’s centrepieces. Emotion, at times sounding triumphant in brilliantly wrought guitar leads, is skewered by vocals that bustle with shattering despair. The dichotomy is magnificent to behold. GAEREA’s composer makes no mistake. “I want to hear the throat on the album, and if we are a vocals-driven band, I don’t want to over-process them during the recording. Striking that balance is one of the beauties for me in this record.”

In a world that increasingly elevates the shallow and the narcissistic, GAEREA pursues an artistic struggle of inward isolation, honest self-examination, and a dogged refusal to bow to the void that awaits. Thus, the persistence of their shadowed visages, draped in the masks which codify their anonymity while also creating a reliable extreme metal brand that fans can appreciate, especially in the live setting. “GAEREA are truly ourselves when we put these masks on, and we transcend into something different, and primitive,” he asserts. “It still makes total sense, and this band would not be a band anymore if we ever dropped the masks.”

As GAEREA prepares the release of Mirage, the world has resumed functioning, and as it lurches onward into its bleak future, one could stipulate that the pressure may be on to continue its rise amid the clamor of this renewal of activity. Does this challenge intimidate GAEREA? “We want to do better, but I don’t feel any pressure because we are in very good hands with the people we work with. We are building a strong team that really cares for us, stage-wise, promotional-wise, website and sales-wise. We are building a very structured confident teams that aims for the same goals we do. What I truly care about is continuing our ever-growing concept of the band GAEREA, and not becoming sterile, and I would not want people to be unaffected by our music. In the end we’re trying to express something within ourselves, and I don’t want it to be too complicated.”

The beauty of GAEREA lies in the directness and simplicity found within their florid tapestry of extremity and aggression. Whether it is in the less-polished aural dynamite of their self-titled EP, or in the lustrous textures of Mirage, GAEREA is building a mighty edifice of underground metal. With talons dipped in the inky blood of black metal and scraped across the flesh of human suffering, GAEREA is leading a charge into the future of darkness, and all those who find beauty and power in the dark side of existence would do well to take heed.

Greek metal titans ROTTING CHRIST are now announcing a North American headliner with support from label-mates CARACH ANGREN and GAEREA as well as Eisenwald artist UADA! The "Under Our Black Cult" trek will kick off on February 16 in Houston, TX and will lay waste to the nation until the final curtain draws on March 14 in Orlando, FL! The full itinerary, ticket links, and information on the bands can be found below!

Prior to the tour, ROTTING CHRIST will be performing two pummeling sets on the 70,000 Tons of Metal cruise, including a very special anniversary set for their seminal album, 'Thy Mighty Contract.' The ship sets sail from Miami on January 30 and will return to port on February 3!

ROTTING CHRIST have reached another peak in their long career that now spans over more than three decades. The Greeks have literally stood the test of time. With a steady core line-up and their well-honed live delivery, ROTTING CHRIST are filling concert halls and reap enthusiastic crowd reactions wherever they go. This demonstration of love from their followers is not just driven by nostalgia as the band has managed to evolve and grow, while staying relevant beyond the classics with their highly acclaimed latest albums such as 'Aealo' (2010), 'Κατά τον δαίμονα εαυτού’ (2013), and 'Rituals' (2016).

Now, with the new offering 'The Heretics', ROTTING CHRIST are opening a brand new chapter. With confidence and skills derived from experience, each song represents its own sonic universe. Guitarist and vocalist Sakis Tolis in collaboration with his brother Themis on drums achieve a perfect balance of amalgamating their classic and unique style of riffing and rhythm with exciting new elements sprinkled in to keep their material exciting and fresh. The experienced is enhanced by Jens Bogren's equally clear and transparent yet also massive as well as sombre mix and mastering at his widely renowned Fascination Street Studios (AMORPHIS, BORKNAGAR, MOONSPELL, DEVIN TOWNSEND, and many more).

ROTTING CHRIST were founded by Sakis Tolis and his brother Themis in the year 1987. Starting out on a basis of death and grind, the Greeks had already embarked on a darker musical journey by the time their debut full-length ‘Thy Mighty Contract’ (1993) was revealed. On the following seven albums covering a ten-year period from 'Non Serviam' (1994) to 'Sanctus Diavolos' (2004), ROTTING CHRIST steadily defined their own distinct style by experimenting with elements from death, heavy, and gothic metal without betraying their black roots. At the same time, the band went from underground heroes to headliner status. With the highly acclaimed ninth album, 'Theogonia' (2007), the Greek stalwarts added an unmistakable native element to their sound, which has remained with them as a signature trademark ever since. Exploring the mythical legacy of cultures around the globe led to ROTTING CHRIST's massively successful latest release, 'Rituals' (2016). With more than 30 years, 13 studio albums, a dozen EPs, singles and split releases, as well as more than 1.250 shows under their belt, 2018 marked the year of 'Their Greatest Spells' (2018), where they musically revisited their exciting legacy to connect their past with the present.

'The Heretics' marks another step in the evolution of the Greek masters. Buckle up for a fascinating musical ride through the woes of religious wars, Zoroastrianism and the eternal war between good and evil.  Metal at its best!

The Dutch masters of horror are back with their most flamboyant album so far. On 'Franckensteina Strataemontanus', CARACH ANGREN resurrect the gruesome story of troubled soul ‘Conrad Dippel’; the inspiration of Mary Shelly’s novel 'Frankenstein'.

CARACH ANGREN have extended all the sonic colours on their established palette to dazzling effect. Their trademark whipping guitars are weaving harsh melodies and sinister soundscapes, which are beautifully contrasted by opulent keyboards and majestic orchestrations. That Till Lindemann (RAMMSTEIN) and Peter Tägtgren (PAIN) have called upon the composition talent of Clemens "Ardek" Wijers is a telling sign of his outstanding mastery of the craft. Another signatory counterpoint is provided by Seregor's fierce rasping and shrieking vocals. Adding to the impact, Namtar has become a relentless driving force with his hart hitting yet intricate drumming. Each track on this album is a highlight on its own, while combined 'Franckensteina Strataemontanus ' simply shines.

CARACH ANGREN set out to tell ghost-stories with a set of paranormal cases recorded on the demo 'The Chase Vault Tragedy' (2004). This was soon followed by the official release of the 'Ethereal Veiled Existence' EP (2005) as a prelude to the haunting 'Lammendam' (2008). The Dutch had a clear vision of combining a dark baroque style of metal with horror based lyrical concepts. Their sophomore full-length 'Death Came through a Phantom Ship' (2010) witnessed the band setting sail to bring their eccentric and capturing live performances to audiences and festivals all over Europe. In the wake of third album 'Where the Corpses Sink Forever' (2012), the haunting had reached the Americas and started to spread rapidly. This record added a serious side to the lyrics of CARACH ANGREN. While firmly remaining in the horror genre, their tales revolve around the evils of war. This mature streak was taken a step further with the fourth full-length 'This Is No Fairytale', which is on the surface a darker variation of the "Hansel and Gretel" story from the Brothers Grimm collection, but also deals with the too real topic of child abuse in a dysfunctional family. With ‘Dance And Laugh Amongst The Rotten’ (2017), the band returned to pure story telling with episodes that are centred on a girl playing a little too long with her Ouija board.

Now, CARACH ANGREN return with the monster ‘Franckensteina Strataemontanus’, where the Dutch have pushed their unashamedly theatrical style to a new intense height. You do not believe us yet? Press play and have your soul transferred with this new elixir of life!

Tormented leads and building riffs sit atop some seriously explosive drumming, waxing and waning, on “Arson,” a tempest of moods and one of the album’s centerpieces.

Style: Cathartic Black Metal

Tormented leads and building riffs sit atop some seriously explosive drumming, waxing and waning, on “Arson,” a tempest of moods and one of the album’s centerpieces.

GAEREA Unveils New Song + Music Video, Reveals New Album Details

Cathartic black metal entity GAEREA will be releasing its third full-length album, 'Mirage,' on September 23, 2022! The album artwork, tracklisting, and other details can be found below! In conjunction with this revelation, the enigmatic band is now unveiling the pummeling first single, "Salve," along with a music video. The video, which was directed by Guilherme Henriques, can be seen and heard below.

GAEREA comments: "Today we finally unleash 'SALVE' upon you all, the first glimpse of music which will take part of our new album 'MIRAGE.' 'SALVE' is an excruciating voyage into the Vortex's Abyss. A burning Carriage which will lead us all to the Golden Walls of Mental Catharsis and endless suffocating whispers trapped within our bleeding corpses. The Journey between Reality and Perception is about to begin. Join us."

The band additionally offers this deeper explanation into the track's concept, stating, "'Salve' explores the depths of our most disgusting desires. To be trapped inside a world who seeks to rip your body apart. It tells the story of a man who has been placed in a room destined to destroy his soul and then his body. An automated experiment of his own living condition which will ultimately lead to his final form."

'Mirage' is now available for pre-orders HERE.

THE LION'S DAUGHTER, OBSIDIAN KINGDOM, + GAEREA Added to Metal Injection's February Installment of Slay at Home Fest!

Season of Mist is pleased to announce that THE LION'S DAUGHTER, GAEREA, and OBSIDIAN KINGDOM will be airing virtual performances during the February installment of Metal Injection's Slay at Home Festival! The festival will air THIS Friday, February 19 @ 3:00 P.M. EST via the Metal Injection YouTube channel at THIS LOCATION.

Season of Mist is also proud to be a partner of this month's event, which will benefit The Black Art Future Fund in celebration of Black History Month. The BAFF is a collective of emerging philanthropists promoting the elevation and preservation of Black arts & culture. More information on the event can be found HERE.

About GAEREA:
GAEREA challenges the archetype of black metal, coloring outside of the genre's lines with melancholy, texture and passion. 'Limbo' devours the listener with misanthropic catharsis and cinematic agony, delivering palpable emotion for 52 uninterrupted minutes. Lose yourself in the abyss.

About THE LION'S DAUGHTER:
The Lion’s Daughter broke new ground through bold experimentations with ‘Future Cult,’ defying all generic categories with a record that could easily serve as the score to a Dario Argento film. Now, the band picks up where it left off, once again delivering an opus that cannot be labeled or defined. ‘Skin Show’ is the soundtrack to Times Square in the 1970s - the epicenter of sin and salacious misdeeds; a haven for sex, drugs, and crime beneath the inviting glow of neon signs from sleazy adult video stores; a place one wouldn’t dare walk alone after midnight. Eerie synths coalesce with the foundations of death, black, and doom metal, creating a cinematic atmosphere that grabs the listener by the throat immediately. ‘Skin Show’ is a record that fits in all boxes, and yet, at the same time, it fits in none at all.

About OBSIDIAN KINGDOM:
OBSIDIAN KINGDOM is devoted to exploring the boundaries of rock music. The Barcelonan band defies classification to this very day, drawing equally on progressive rock, post-metal, alternative and electronic music. However hard to pigeonhole, it remains consistent with delivering exciting artistry that never fails to surprise the audience. ‘Meat Machine’ is an exercise in self-expression, through a head-first plunge into the anxiety derived from sexual frustration, the absurd of reality and the inherent cruelty of a mechanized world. It is an emotional roller-coaster featuring an abrasive and overwhelming sound that draws equally from noise and art rock, post metal and late 90s alternative music.

Launched early last fall, GIMME METAL TV combines the power of MTV-like linear broadcasting with livestreaming, and offers music videos, short form artist-created content, long form music documentaries, movies, and so much more.

Issues GIMME CEO Tyler Lenane of the channel’s inaugural virtual event, "GIMME is going to do for ticketed live events what it did for metal music streaming: reinvent the experience by focusing on building community around the music. Doing our first ticketed event with Season Of Mist is super exciting. They are a total force when it comes to discovering new and unique talent in metal. I think Gaerea is a great example of that. Style: Cathartic Black Metal

Something rises in the bleak and blackened skies of society as we know it. Vortex community GAEREA are about to bestow their Undying Sigil to the masses, with their brand-new full length ‘Limbo’!

GAEREA is a black metal quintet from Portugal. Emerging in the beginning of 2016, the band released their first (self-titled) EP on November 11, 2016 through Everlasting Spew Records. The EP received many praises from the worldwide press, and it was not long before the first full length "Unsettling Whispers" (2018) was presented.

With that, GAEREA had the pleasure to perform and tour festivals in Europe and China, including performances with Jupiterian in April 2019 and a headlining Chinese tour in May 2019. The band already performed at festivals like SWR Barroselas Metalfest (PT), De Mortem et Diabolum (DE), Throne Fest (BE), Frantic Fest (IT), Eresia Metal Fest (IT), Amplifest (PT) and many more. During the fall of 2019, the band did an extensive tour with label mates NUMENOREAN under the Doomstar Bookings wing throughout Europe.

Are you finally ready for the tale of the Fallen Society and the journey to the vast Void, the only good in Life? Let us begin then. In the first hopeless circle, on too great and Undeniable Nothingness. WE ARE GAEREA.
