"The Ornery Six" is a six-song EP that punches hard and fast, clocking in at around 15 minutes — pure punk adrenaline distilled into a compact, no-nonsense format. The name “ornery” isn’t just clever wordplay; it speaks to the EP’s defiant, snarling, and rebellious energy. It’s not polished radio punk — this is raw, blue-collar, Southern California punk rock with roots in skate culture, garage grit, and East Coast snarl. Infamous Stiffs aren’t trying to reinvent punk — they’re reaffirming it. This EP is a reminder of what punk sounds like when it's not concerned with being cool or commercial. The track "Lonesoul” is the most moody track on "The Ornery Six", slowing things down a bit to focus on feelings of mortality and struggles with it. Instead of fast punk energy, it has a heavy, steady beat and dark guitar riffs that create an intense, gritty sound. The vocals are rough but honest, with lyrics that feel personal and real. It’s a powerful break from the louder songs on the EP—a moment that can show the band’s raw, human side.

With the release of the EP Nathan Cox steps in to do the visual part. Known for his work with hard rock and metal acts, Cox brings a moody, cinematic edge - think dim lighting, stark shadows, and slow, deliberate jump cuts that mirror the song’s slower pace and somber feel. Since the release of their self-titled EP in 2018, Sweden’s GAUPA - which translates as ‘lynx’ in English - have continued to pave new ground within the stoner and psychedelic scene, building their own unique cosmos defined by enchanting lyrical surrealism and mind-altering sound.

In 2020, their debut album Feberdröm pushed them into the international spotlight with its outstanding blend of progressive metal, doom, stoner and folk, steered by the entrancing vocal of frontwoman Emma Näslund. Just one year later, they found their label home at Nuclear Blast Records.

Following the arrival of 2022’s Myriad, with the track 'Exoskeleton' reaching over a million streams on Spotify (the EP’s Febersvan now has over 4 million), GAUPA went on to deliver countless unforgettable performances with appearances at festivals including Sweden Rock, Hellfest, Wacken, Mystic and Desertfest, as well as on tours with  heavyweights such as Uncle Acid And The Deadbeats, Blood Ceremony and Graveyard.

Now, they’ve reached a turning point in their journey. After former co- guitarist Daniel Nygren left in 2024 to focus on family life, GAUPA found themselves at a standstill, having to relearn how to orchestrate the band without one of its core members. In the summer, they began writing their first full offering in three years, a four-track mini album titled FYR, a play on words with multiple translations meaning “lighthouse”, “to set something on fire” as well as the number “four” in Swedish.

The four-track mini album marks GAUPA’s fourth release, as well as the start of their next chapter as a four-piece band. However, despite their newly slimmed-down line-up, FYR is anything but slight; with the help of new mixing engineer Karl Daniel Lidén, it serves as their heaviest material to date. Recorded in the autumn of 2024 in Svenska Grammofonstudion, Göteborg and Estethuset studios, Falun, FYR is a genre-bending journey through enthralling psychedelia, groove-laden stoner rock and heavy prog metal.

Showcasing more of Näslund’s playfully perplexing and surreal lyricism, FYR loosely explores the concept of time, “what is real, what is not, and what is a dream”, additionally inspired by science fiction novels, nature and animals.

Later this year, Gaupa will continue to cement themselves as live extraordinaires, playing festivals such as Stoomfest in the UK, Krach Am Bach in Germany and Motocultor in France.

LAINEY WILSON DEBUTS EXCLUSIVE 3-SONG APPLE MUSIC SESSIONS EP

16x ACM, 9x CMA and Grammy Award-winning artist Lainey Wilson debuts her exclusive Apple Music Sessions EP today, which was recorded in London and features covers of The Beatles’ “Come Together” and Lewis Capaldi’s “Someone You Loved,” as well as a reimagined version of her song “Devil Don’t Go There.” Listen HERE.

Wisconsin metalcore powerhouse ARCHERS have just dropped their new single, “Crooked Smile,” now available on all major streaming platforms. The track is taken from their brand-new EP, Temporary High, released today via SBG Records.

Produced by acclaimed producer Matt Good (Hollywood Undead, Sleeping With Sirens), Temporary High captures ARCHERS’ continued evolution, blending crushing breakdowns, atmospheric textures, and emotionally charged lyrics.

Wisconsin-based band ARCHERS is making serious waves. Today, alternative rock duo PEAKS! is excited to announce the release of their digital EP, ‘MODERN WORLD SURVIVORS II,’ out now via FLG. In addition, a new track, “LEECHER,”is out now, accompanied by a lyric video, available to view below.

“’LEECHER’ is a scream disguised as a song - born from the urge to call out the toxic patterns we sometimes tolerate. It’s about those people who feed off your energy, twist your words, and hide behind false concern while pulling the strings. We’ve all met someone like that. This track is about waking up to it - seeing the manipulation clearly and refusing to play along anymore.

“Lyrically, it’s sharp, sarcastic, and rooted in truth, not just anger, but clarity. There’s freedom in naming things for what they are and breaking the roles others try to put you in. Sonically, it hits hard: distorted, punchy, relentless. Every riff is designed to cut through the noise like a slap to the face”, they added. 'LEECHER' is a statement: I see you, I’m done, and I won’t shrink to make you comfortable.”

About the EP, the band stated:

“’MODERN WORLD SURVIVORS II’ is for anyone who’s ever felt too much in a world that listens too little. It’s for the gaslit, the shutdown, the ones who’ve been guilt-tripped into silence - and still found a way to make noise. Each track is a snapshot of resistance: ‘LEECHER’ confronts manipulation with venom and truth; ‘BAD DECISIONS’ embraces the beautiful mess of recklessness; ‘MORPHIA’ howls from the edge of numbness, and ‘DON’T WANNA BE LIKE YOU’ goes straight for the throat of hypocrisy.

“This EP lives in the tension between chaos and clarity. The lyrics are confessional, confrontational, sometimes self-destructive - but never hollow. They’re laced with irony, pain, and the raw need to break free from anything fake, expected, or imposed.

“Musically, it’s cathartic and intimate: distorted guitars, punchy rhythms, and haunting melodies form a wall of sound that feels like fists against the walls and voices breaking through static. It’s a darker, more resolved end to the storm we started in Part I - less about survival, more about defiance. We didn’t write these songs to be safe. We wrote them to feel alive. If you’ve ever felt like the only sane person in a twisted system - this one’s for you.”

They wrapped up 2022 by playing with Frank Carter and the Rattlesnakes.

2023 saw PEAKS! returning to The Great Escape in Brighton, playing at the first Slam Dunkin Italy, followed by support slots with Dead Poets Society in Holland, and summer shows with Placebo in Italy and Switzerland. They played with Placebo again in 2024, as well as performing at the Storing Festival in The Netherlands.

Funeral Release Surprise New EP

Fresh on the crushing heels of their ninth album Gospel of Bone, today, Funeral are returning with a new companion EP. The Funereal displays all the markings that made this band pioneers of funeral doom: glacial riffs, poisoned harmonies, slow-burning solos and deep, pained growls. At its cold heart lies “Gamalt ljós”, a towering 18-minute centerpiece that digs deep into the psychological toll of emotional entrapment.

“Gamalt ljós” is one of the most introspective and heavy songs in Funeral’s decades-long career. Sung entirely in Faroese, the song translates in English as “Old Light,” a poetic reference to the fading glow of past hopes and unreachable absolutes. As its triptych structure unfolds, the emotional intensity escalates, navigating Kantian philosophy, spiritual longing, violent imagery and personal grief. "Rópi á gamalt ljós" (“I cry for old light”) emerges as its aching refrain.

The Funereal EP also includes an acoustic reinterpretation of “Når Kisten Senkes,” a standout track from Gospel of Bones. Stripped of the original’s orchestral weight, this new version lays bare the song’s stark mourning and lyrical gravitas. The result is a subdued yet devastating lamentation—an intimate reflection on death, grief, and finality, rendered in delicate acoustics and hushed despair.

Since the album was completed, the now septet has welcomed for the first time ever a full-time violin player “to perform live most of the strings you can hear on our albums as soon as we’ll be able to go back on stage.” In the meantime, Anders confesses the next album is more or less “finished. ‘Praesentialis’ could have been released earlier if we hadn’t to face all those COVID-related problems. We couldn’t meet in person, let alone rehearse or even just take promo pictures… But now we have a new label, a new line-up and a totally renewed sense of energy so why stop there? FUNERAL started thirty years ago be truth be told, it’s never been stronger. So, doom on!”

Exuberant NYC quintet Ecce Shnak share 'Backroom Sessions' EP and 'Fight Song' video

NYC experimental rock quintet Ecce Shnak has released their 'Backroom Sessions' EP via Records, Man Records, recorded at Backroom Studios in Rockaway, NJ. This 4-song live set arrives ahead of the band's West coast tour this June with platinum-selling legends Spacehog and EMF.

Ecce Shnak has also shared a raucous video for 'Fight Song' (Live), a hard-hitting track with a potent message, offering an ironic take on violence and addressing today's rampant spread of hate-filled vitriol. They earlier shared another track from this EP - their groove-inducing opus 'Prayer On Love' (Live).

Ecce Shnak is David Roush (composer, bassist and one of two singers), Bella Komodromos (vocals), Chris Krasnow (guitar), Gannon Ferrell (guitar), and Henry Buchanan-Vaughn (drums). Where fervent brilliance blurs into absolute, uncontainable madness, there resides Ecce Shnak, balanced precariously upon an illuminated sonic high wire.

David Roush explains, "While we originally filmed these performances for our YouTube channel, we felt the audio worked as a thrilling scamper through old material and new material alike. In addition, we are finishing a new full-length album and wanted to have something to tide you over, dear Shnak’iversian, until its release next Spring. So until we can share 'Dandy Variances' with you all, here are the “Backroom Sessions.” We so hope you love them tremendously!"

Rejecting conventional aesthetics, Ecce Shnak (pronounced Eh-kay sh-knock) whimsically incorporates diverse artistic expressions, tackling profound subjects and intriguing minutiae with remarkable clarity. Building on the success of their recently-released debut 'Shadows Grow Fangs' EP,

"The hardcore slammer 'Fight Song' is not a Katy Perry cover. Instead, it is a djent-forward ramble on the ubiquity of violence in human life, be it literal or metaphorical. It was originally an ironic joke when it was released on our first EP, 'Letters to German Vasquez Rubio' in 2012," says David Roush.

"We decided to change the lyrics and release a new version in reaction to the rancid bigotries that so plague the human spirit nowadays, in America and elsewhere. The final line is a call to defend our basic human freedoms while we still have them: “Fight for your right to fight!”"

Ecce Shnak's recently-released debut 'Shadows Grow Fangs' EP showcases incomparable ingenuity and limitless invention, blending art-rock and punk energy with some unexpected twists. I Am the Way to Oblivion EP was recorded earlier this year at Destroyer Studios in Hamilton, Ontario. It was produced by the band and engineered by Chris LeMasters. For the mixing and mastering of the EP, the band once again worked with Lance Prenc (ALPHA WOLF, POLARIS, VOID OF VISION). The album artwork was created by Tiltshift Visual and Chris LeMasters.

In May, they hit London Music Hall as direct support for IN FLAMES, headlining Pouzza Fest in Montreal, and were just announced as part of the lineup for legendary New England Metal and Hardcore Festival.  The band is set to announce more North American tour dates soon!

Florida Indie-Punk Rockers Virginity Release "Fidelity Castro" EP via Smartpunk Records

Smartpunk Records' power pop darlings Virginity have released their new EP "Fidelity Castro" as a follow-up to their 2024 LP "Bad Jazz" - available to purchase here. The EP is a collection of six dynamic tracks that went from being outcasts on the album tracklist to star songs in their own right.

The band has received critical acclaim from the rock scene's top tastemakers, including New Noise Magazine, Brooklyn Vegan, Audiotree, and more. As fan favorites at Smartpunk's SXSW showcase and Florida's beloved FEST, Virginity have cultivated a core fanbase who are foaming at the mouth for these new tracks. 

Speaking about the new EP, Virginity says, "Fidelity Castro started out being a way to just throw a couple of tunes out that had been sitting on the back burner for a while. As we assembled those, we kept returning to the live recordings we’d done in Jordan’s living room when we first started writing for Bad Jazz and felt like a couple of songs had so much life in them that we had to send them out into the world with our new recordings. We’ve also got a Shins tune on here because we’re just fans of that band and that record (Chutes Too Narrow) in particular. That was just something fun to do and a challenge, to make it our own a little. Lastly, we’ve got Love Exists, which is a song so incredibly void of any cynicism (basically an idea that’s nonexistent in our catalog) that we weren’t sure what to do with it. Should we rerecord it, make it a full band affair, or perhaps make it a proper piano ballad or something? Ultimately, we decided the magic was already there and that it should just be put out as is. The arc of this band has been about progressively getting more and more authentic. In a way, Fidelity is our most authentic release yet. There’s a real “scars and all” approach to it. We’re not being precious about any of it and, for now, that’s really inspiring and exciting for us. We really believe that some of these songs are some of the best we have to offer, and we’re so proud of this little collection."

ABOUT VIRGINITY
Virginity’s “Fidelity Castro EP” was originally supposed to be a way to release the leftover scraps from the Bad Jazz recording sessions, but as the band continued to finesse the recordings, the EP morphed into something entirely different. It took on a life of its own, and taught the band it can operate more loosely than it ever has before.

Featuring 5 original tracks and a cover of one of their favorite Shins tunes, the EP shows the band finishing three partially developed concepts from the Bad Jazz sessions as well as 3 demos of songs that never made it to the studio, but showed just as much promise as anything that landed on the album. And while the basic tracks of the demos were recorded live and raw, they show another side of the band’s abilities and yearning to experiment with lo-fi production (a la a recent obsession with Guided By Voices) and attempt to not overthink something that already rocks ass.

• Fog Watch: Ian battles loneliness and encroaching insanity, symbolized by the perpetual fog. The lyrics reflect his isolation and mental deterioration.

• Thankful: Ian's desire for validation turns to bitter rage as he resents the lack of gratitude from those he protects.

• Rizen: Ian falls under the influence of a false deity, surrendering reason for blind obedience.

• Siren Comes: Ian faces nightly temptations, battling internal fears and desires.

• Trenched In: Ian's final act of devotion leads to his self-burial, a symbolic death and rebirth.

• Bombay Way: The reality is revealed: Ian's experiences were drug-induced delusions, culminating in a fatal overdose in Bombay Beach.

Reconciler is a band from Atlanta, GA first amplified in the summer of
2016. Harkening to a sound alternately Southeast and East Bay, they released their debut LP, Set Us Free, in February of 2019 to critical acclaim. A split 7-inch with the legendary Gainesville outfit, Ship Thieves followed in January of 2021. With a solidified new lineup and a refined focus, Reconciler went to work completing their sophomore album, Art For Our Sake, released on Smartpunk Records in the U.S. and Gunner Records in Europe in February of 2024. South East England trio TROPIC GOLD have released their new EP, SICK TO DEATH OF EVERYHING, via UNFD.

"'THE ANGELS ARE GONE' plays on as a lyric response to the question from the end of the introduction track opening the EP, that being 'How do you feel?,'" the band says. "The track's intention was to feel like a downward spiral when your head is just wrecked and in all the wrong places, with the chorus stating 'I need a reason to stay, 'cos the angels are gone.'"

Regarding the deeply personal EP, Tropic Gold siphoned every bit of emotion the members have experienced in recent times and parlayed it into these songs, saying, "SICK TO DEATH OF EVERYTHING had everything poured into it over some really difficult times — the name sums up what was, and has been, going through our heads. It's our most honest and vulnerable body of work, and hope that people hear it and connect so they understand they aren't alone with day-to-day instability of mental health, life uncertainty, and self-loathing."

Tropic Gold offer up a thoroughly modern and moody meld of alternative, metal, pop, and electronica, cajoling their passions for a dynamic culture pool of music and production styles into a single sonic petri dish. Though originally formed in 2019, the quartet have spent years in the lab, developing their sound and strong aesthetics behind the closed doors of a bespoke, self-built multi-media studio.

Following the success of their latest full-length album, Dead Canary Run (2024, Noble Demon), THE VICE embarked on an exciting journey to create a series of EPs. The addition of Joel Öhman, a long-time collaborator, has transformed the band into a finely-tuned quartet, enriching their sound with fresh perspectives and innovative approaches.

The first offering from this new chapter, A Great Unrest, has this growth on full display, amplifying every inch of the foundation made of blackened metal, ambient pop and unbridled rock'n'roll. 

The five tracks - three new ones, a cover of "1 Sun" by Miley Cyrus and a rearranged version of "Welcome The Storm" from the latest album - were recorded in the fall of 2024 at Studio Underjord (Skraeckoedlan, Magna Carta Cartel, Haystack among others) in rural Sweden.

Fresh off of writing and recording a full album, this EP was the perfect way to musically break the "limitations" that can come when working to create a really unified piece of art.

And while it wasn't exactly Fantomas-levels of diverse tracks, sound engineer and owner of the studio, Joona Hassinen really pulled his 'A' game giving it a coherent sound. A Great Unrest sounds a bit lighter, yet more harsh than Dead Canary Run with an electrified, distorted tension running throughout.

Chase Rice Shares "Live From Chief's" EP: Eric Church & George Strait Covers Plus Unreleased Original "Cowboy Goodbye"

Country music maverick Chase Rice has surprised fans with today's release of a special three-song EP, Live From Chief's. Captured during his recent acoustic underplay shows at Chief's on Broadway on Feb. 13 and 14 – which American Songwriter cited as emblematic of the fact that "Chase Rice didn't change, he just got brave enough to be himself" – the project highlights Rice's raw, unfiltered artistry in a way that fans rarely get to experience at his larger arena shows. The project opens with two standout covers: fellow Asheville-area native Eric Church’s “Carolina,” one of the first songs Rice was inspired to learn to play on guitar during his college years at UNC, and George Strait’s iconic rodeo hit “I Can Still Make Cheyenne,” which itself inspired the EP’s third song.
 
The previously unreleased “Cowboy Goodbye,” a yearning song co-written by Rice with Oscar Charles and Foy Vance during a recent post-Red Rocks retreat in Colorado, serves as a pivotal moment for his next studio album – the oft-teased Eldora expected later this year. The first song written for the highly anticipated follow up to recent independent success Go Down Singin’, “Cowboy Goodbye” reflects on the sacrifices that come with the pursuit of music and the longing for something more:

“I love my life; I love my job; I love what I get to do for a living – but I’ve given up a lot to do it,” Rice shares in the live recording’s introduction, reflecting on the deeply personal parallels between the life of a touring musician and that of a true cowboy. “I don’t have a family yet – that’s the goal – but that’s one of the main things that I’ve given up to do this thing… Since I was a little kid, I always wore the cowboy boots, I always wore the cowboy hat and the cowboy way of life was always just kind of in my mind.”
 
Co-produced by Rice and Charles, the EP features an intimate, stripped-down sound with Charles on drums and background vocals, Jonathan Sherwood on bass and Tori Allen on fiddle. Recorded at two back-to-back sold-out shows at Chief’s just a few weeks ago, these performances were part of a unique two-night residency where Rice celebrated his artistic evolution:
