Dead Poet Society Share Video for New Version of "HURT" (Feat. The Warning)

Los Angeles quartet DEAD POET SOCIETY, who were recently tipped by The New York Post's Page Six as a band to know, dropped their second album FISSION in 2024 via Spinefarm. It's available here.

They haven't taken a beat since releasing the album—embarking on a non-stop Herculean tour, screaming up the radio charts, and winning over fans and press with every performance.

They closed the year with a killer reimagined version of their single "HURT," featuring rock band The Warning.

They share the official video Below.

The video, which feels almost voyeuristic and lo-fi, is electrifyingly cinematic, with Dead Poet Society and The Warning performing as though their lives depend upon it. The riffs and dueling vocals crackle throughout. DPS x The Warning perform together — as if they were always meant to. Stick around 'til the end, where full musical mayhem ensues.

"It's a bit of a miracle that this video came together," DPS say. "The Warning had a tiny window in their tour schedule and it was an uncertain whether it would all come together but they killed it, and the director nailed the vibe. You would think that this whole video had been shot at once."

Upon the song's initial release, the band said, "We're so excited to release this new version of 'HURT' featuring The Warning. We first saw Paulina from The Warning singing along to the song on social media, when we were on Shiprocked together. So it seemed only natural to invite her up for a repeat performance at Aftershock. It became such a moment, that we invited them to record a studio version with us and all three of The Warning sisters."

The Warning also shared, "The first time we heard the song was while working on our album Keep Me Fed with our producer, Anton DeLost, who also produced Dead Poet Society's album. When 'HURT' came out, we were in the studio and heard it there. We immediately congratulated Anton on everything because it was just incredible. From that moment, we became fans of the song.  Later, we met DPS on Shiprocked and heard the song live for the first time, which was amazing. Then, at Aftershock, DPS invited Pau to perform it with them on stage. That performance brought everything together, and after it, we started talking like, 'Hey, maybe we should hop on the song officially.' Now, we're thrilled to see it finally being released. It's such a powerful song, and we're incredibly happy to be part of it."

Dead Poet Society hit the road later this year with Chevelle. All dates are below.

Dead Poet Society Announce New Album "FISSION" + Share "I hope you hate me." / "How Could I Love You?

Los Angeles quartet DEAD POET SOCIETY are pleased to announce their second album FISSION. It arrives on January 26 via Spinefarm. Pre-order it here.

After a decade defining, redefining, and perfecting their art, Fission finds Dead Poet Society poised to be rock's next breakout act. The album is a 13-track study of personal change and the turbulence of growth that, as frontman Jack Underkofler attests, takes "a microscopic and broad look at the events that changed who we are."

Today, the band has dropped two singles — "
I hope you hate me." and "How Could I Love You?"

Both songs address the sometimes bittersweet, more often simply bitter, fallout from a tumultuous relationship. The latter is an excruciating yet intoxicating journey, backed by searing guitars, while the former addresses the aftermath of a relationship.

The video for "I hope you hate me" features dancer and breakout social media star
This Robot Cannot Human, whose carefully choreographed moves perfectly reflect the song's tension and slow, calculated build up. The track effortlessly mixes a subtle take on '80s nu wave with alt rock fury, thanks to pulsating riffs and drumbeats that echo your own heartbeat.

Ultimately, Underkofler says the band has one mission for fans and listeners of the new album: "We want to leave them with the truth."

Further elaborating on the concept, he says, "It's not as simple as saying we want our music to leave people with a positive outlook. You want music to speak to wherever you find yourself. We want to leave people feeling that whatever they are experiencing is valid, no matter what place they are at in their lives."

To that end, there are deep rakings over the coals of relationship breakdowns, examinations of addiction in all its guises, ruminations on the responsibilities and challenges of adulthood, and struggles with the evolution, loss and continual search for self. "In a lot of ways this album is about unpacking those emotional pains that come with being an adult," Underkofler says. "The past few years have left me in a constant state of growth through the life events of which I've had little control, or which didn’t pan out the way I wanted them to. There's a 'before' you, and an 'after' you, and there's no going back. Life tends to force your hand, and it's futile to fight it. You have to accept that things that happen to you will change you, and let them build you into the next phase of who you are. There is a constant battle to not mourn who I was, because the things you go through define you as a person and turn you into a person worth being. But that can be difficult to wrestle with. There is a positive to it, but it is birthed through a lot of pain."

While the lyrics are fully relatable, the music is a DNA-distinct blend of anthemic alternative, dark and moody hard rock, and progressive indie. FISSION is truly unlike anything you've heard in recent times.

Dead Poet Society Share Double Single "Running in Circles" + "Hurt" — WATCH

Los Angeles quartet DEAD POET SOCIETY return with not one but two new tracks. Today, the band has shared the video for the new double single"Running in Circles" and "Hurt."

Watch the video
below

"'Running in Circles' explores the paranoid voices inside our heads," the band shares. "It's about the struggle of being real with yourself — avoiding the 'fake.' Sometimes, it feels impossible to avoid. So it was written about not being true to yourself and the shame that follows."

As for "Hurt," the band explains, "There's not a lot in life that's more gut-wrenchingly frustrating than trying desperately for years to build a career and having little to show for it. From living on floors and friends' couches or out of your car, to working job after job just barely making ends meet to going on tour and coming back with less money than you had before. We wrote this song as a symbol of that nagging doubt and insecurity. The doubt that consumes you and that can be triggered by people or events in your life. But more often than not, again, it's the voice inside your head."

The new tracks are the first taste of music from the band since 2021. The band had released a deluxe edition of their critically acclaimed and head-turning debut album -!- (said as "The Exclamation Album."). The expanded version added six new tracks — a healthy selection of stripped down songs, live tracks, and a remix. Dead Poet Society Share ".SALT." Video — WATCH

Los Angeles quartet Dead Poet Society have shared the video for ".SALT." Watch the story-driven video below.

The track is darkly seductive, with a quiet push-and-pull tension.

"We wrote this song about getting f*cked over by certain people in our career," the band explains. "People we thought we could trust, people who we never could have foreseen doing the things they did. Over the course of our career, we've met and worked with a lot of people — many of whom have been a blessing and have largely contributed to our success. But as a band, especially in the early years, there were sharks out there. This song is straight from the heart."

The band will return to the road this spring supporting Biffy Clyro, who hand-picked the band for the bill. The tour kicks off April 17 in Chicago and runs through May 9 in Los Angeles. All dates are below. The band will also return to Europe this summer for festival season, where they are set to perform at Download in the UK and Full Force in Germany.

Dead Poet Society are poised to have a major year in 2022. The band released their debut album -!- (said as "The Exclamation Album.") a year ago and have since accumulated over 30 million global streams, with over 10 million in the U.S. alone. The single ".CoDA." was a Top 15 single at radio, spending over 20 weeks on the chart. The track was also featured on Spotify’s Rock This playlist. The band hit the road last fall in support of Badflower and made appearances at the Welcome to Rockville and Louder Than Life festivals. Across the pond, the band appeared at the Reading and Leeds festivals. At Reading, they drew one of the biggest crowds of the day. Watch footage of the definitive performance here.

Badflower , Teenage Wrist and Dead Poet Society bring the storm into Webster Hall,NYC

As the sky opened up and the rain drove down outside Webster Hall, inside Badflower, Teenage Wrist and Dead Poet Society were ready to bring the storm onto the stage.

It had been 7 years (way too long) since Boston natives Dead Post Society were on a NYC stage and they made up for it with a powerful opening set and songs from their new album “-!-”.

Continuing the power were Californias’ Teenage Wrist with a very tight set consisting mostly of songs from their new album “Earth is a Black Hole”.

The stage and the audience were now set for the barrage of the storm to come and Badflower did not disappoint. As soon as Josh and fellow bandmates got to the stage the crowd was ecstatic from opening song Fukboi to the closing My Funeral. At the strike of midnight the band’s newest album “This is How the World Ends” would be released and the storm outside and inside were over.

Dead Poet Society Release "I Never Loved Myself Like I Loved You" Video — Touring w/ Badflower This Fall

Los Angeles-based alt-rock outfit DEAD POET SOCIETY have released the video for their song "I never loved myself like I loved you," which is featured on their debut album -!- (said as "The Exclamation Album."). Watch it below

The video is an impromptu, one-take affair, which sees lead singer Jack Underkofler slowly unravel as he walks the streets of L.A.. Like much of -!-, the video highlights the emotional and self-reflective adversity that the band exercises through their music.

"This video was completely shot by accident," the band explains. "We were in the process of pre-production, getting test shots with our iPhones. We improvised a possible scene and ended up capturing a moment that resonated with us all so strongly that we felt we had to release it as the actual video itself. It's not perfect in terms of its aesthetic or technical value, but the imperfection is what this song is about. For us, this video captured the exact emotions and feelings that went into writing this song, and that's what matters."

Underkolfer recently spoke with The Recording Academy/GRAMMY.com for their ongoing segment "Herbal Tea & White Sofas."

Dead Poet Society are receiving some well-deserved recognition on the strength of their new album. The record's lead single, ".CoDA., " is the band's first track to chart in the Top 25 at Active Rock. The band also announced its first tour of 2021, supporting their longtime friends in Badflower on a North American run this fall. All dates are below.
