The title OPTIMIZE = OPTDEMISE is itself a warning: a caution against a world in which the rise of AI has come to symbolize humanity’s growing confusion over what it means to be human. More than a framework of “against AI” or “against technology,” this album calls for the liberation of the soul in response to a world that is steadily being bleached of color, and to the brutality of people who, having stopped thinking for themselves, continue to hurt one another. That is the reason coldrain continues to fight. And OPTIMIZE = OPTDEMISE is the album where that essence appears more youthful, pure, and unfiltered than ever before - a human fuse burning toward ignition.

Coldrain, the quintet that is about to release their 8th album, first emerged in Japan in 2007, proudly identifying themselves as a “loud rock” band. Their songwriting, heavily influenced by the nu-metal and emo/screamo movements of the 2000s, resonated directly with the youth culture of America at the time. Yet in the Japanese rock scene of that era, “loud music” was still largely associated with melodic punk and pop-punk. As a result of that advance, coldrain absorbed musical elements far beyond nu-metal and screamo alone. While maintaining melodies that carried a distinctly Japanese sense of emotion, they transformed into a chimera capable of crossing through every subgenre of rock. Their ability to be both heavy and endlessly pop became their greatest weapon.

Now, especially since joining forces with Century Media Records, the very fact that their music cannot be defined by a single attribute - and the very “in-between” quality of their style - has become a musical identity unconstrained by borders or genres, radiating an originality that stands among the strongest in the world.

coldrain are a band whose lives were changed by music that could never have been born in Japan, and yet they themselves are a hybrid that could only have emerged from the Galápagos-like environment of Japan. That is coldrain. Rather than needing to acquire a new place, coldrain were able to turn simply “being themselves” into music in its most unfiltered form. As a result, OPTIMIZE = OPTDEMISE is pierced throughout by a youthful rawness that feels almost impossible for a band nearing twenty years since its formation.

HANABIE. Drop New Track "Life Is Short, O Brave Girl" via Sony Music Japan For Upcoming Anime 'Young Ladies Don't Play Fighting Games' on Crunchyroll

Japanese Harajuku-core sensation HANABIE. have today released their new single, "Life Is Short, O Brave Girl" alongside the official music video (via Sony Music Japan). The track will serve as the opening theme for the upcoming anime series Young Ladies Don't Play Fighting Games and will be available on all major streaming platforms worldwide.

Known for their explosive blend of metalcore, hardcore and Japanese pop culture influences, HANABIE. bring their signature energy to the new song, which captures the passion, determination and youthful spirit at the heart of the anime's story.

Based on the popular manga series, Young Ladies Don't Play Fighting Games follows Mitsuki Aya, a student at the prestigious Girls' Academy who discovers her refined and idolized classmate is actually a hardcore, trash-talking fighting-game enthusiast. Despite the academy's strict ban on gaming, the two bond through their shared passion and begin a series of intense battles that spark both rivalry and friendship.

Reflecting the anime's themes of dedication and self-expression, HANABIE.'s new single delivers a powerful mix of aggression, melody and infectious energy.

Speaking about the collaboration, the band shared:

“Since the anime is set at an all-girls school, we felt a strong connection to the story. HANABIE. was also formed by students from an all-girls school during our high school years, so we could really relate to the passion and dedication the characters have for something they love. As we worked on the song, we found ourselves recalling many memories and felt excited imagining how the track would come together. We're huge fans of anime and video games ourselves, so it's a real honor to be involved with such a wonderful series."

When asked about "Life Is Short, O Brave Girl", vocalist Yukina commented:

Since this is an anime theme song, I read the original work and immersed myself completely in its world while writing the song! For the lyrics, I included words that fans of Young Ladies Don’t Play Fighting Games will hopefully recognize and think, "Oh!" when they hear them. I also reflected on my own youth, remembering the things our faculty advisor said to us when we were attending an all-girls school and passionately playing in a band while being obsessed with heavy music, as well as the rebellious spirit I felt during those days.I hope this song becomes one that overflows with energy for anyone who is passionately devoted to something!

HANABIE. guitarist and vocalist Matsuri stated:

We had the honor of writing this song for the TV anime Young Ladies Don’t Play Fighting Games. HANABIE. and the characters in the anime have many things in common, such as growing up in an all-girls school and dedicating ourselves wholeheartedly to something during our school days. Because of that, there were many moments during the songwriting process when I could truly relate to the story, and it made creating the song a lot of fun. Rather than trying to neatly blend HANABIE.'s world with the world of the anime, we focused on finding the best way for the passion and energy of both to collide. I would be very happy if this song reaches many people.

Bassist Hettsu said:

As the theme song for the TV anime Young Ladies Don’t Play Fighting Games, this song expresses the world of fighting games through a powerful sound! One of its greatest charms is the way it combines the tension of battle scenes, the exhilarating feeling of youth, and the graceful elegance of young ladies. For the bass, I played with groove and a sense of momentum in mind so that it could support the song's energy. I would be happy if, along with the rhythm that makes you want to move your body, listeners can also feel the straightforward emotions of our student days, when we were completely devoted to something.

Drummer Chika also shared:

As the opening theme song for the TV anime Young Ladies Don’t Play Fighting Games, this song is a perfect match for the world of the anime! While capturing the energy of the characters and the battles, it turned into a song that naturally gets you excited. One drum highlight to listen for is during the chorus, where I strike the China cymbal four times in sync with the lyrics, "MATCH UP!! SMASH UP!!" I hope everyone will enjoy listening to it again and again together with the anime.

'Happy Pills' is already familiar to our fans, but this new version breathes life into something beloved for some time. It has the new sound of who we are today while sticking to the roots of what we know our fans love. We didn’t want to change much but wanted them to hear what it would sound like re-recorded today. ABOUT WEATHERS

Southern California-based alternative rock band Weathers — lead singer/frontman Cameron Boyer, guitarist Cameron Olsen and bassist Brennen Bates — have been consistently creating finely crafted introspective pop songs heavily inspired by the counter-culture of the 80s and 90s since forming in 2015. The band makes music that speaks to those among us who tend to forget that, regardless of outward appearances, everyone is struggling with something and that no one is alone. Weathers’ story is a tale of growing up, of coming into one’s own, and includes themes of depression or anxiety and the often difficult maintenance of mental health.

They first grabbed listeners' attention with 2016's "Happy Pills," which peaked at number 21 on the Billboard Alternative Songs chart. Initially, vocalist Boyer and guitarist Olsen met in 2012 while attending a battle of the bands in the Los Angeles suburb of Manhattan Beach. By 2015, they had formed Weathers, recruiting bassist Bates. Signing with RCA Records, they released their debut single, "I Don't Wanna Know," a swaggeringly moody song that drew comparisons to Walk the Moon and The Neighbourhood. Fans followed, and in March 2016 they landed a slot at SXSW. Their follow-up single, "Happy Pills," garnered the band even more attention, becoming the most added track to rock radio in July 2016. In 2018, they issued the Kids in the Night EP, featuring the single "1983."

Ryan Perdz Drops New Track "Time to Pretend" via Big Machine Rock

Buffalo, New York singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Ryan Perdz has released his fan-favorite, fresh reimagination of "Time to Pretend". Prior to today, Perdz released tracks "Sour" and most recently, the emotionally compelling "Heavy Eyes" along with the announcement of his debut album 'Can't Cry', set for release on August 14 via Big Machine Rock. Speaking about "Time to Pretend", Perdz commented:

'Time to Pretend' is the first cover I’ve ever released. I wanted to record something that I could change the genre and really make my own. The lyrics are so raw and I felt like heavy distortion and new guitar riffs would transform the song into something new. The angsty lyrics paired up with heavy guitars turn the song into a new rock fueled anthem.”

Fans have their chance to see Perdz on his Summer 2026 tour going on now and wrapping on Friday, June 19 in Chicago, Illinois(tickets available at the link here). Stream "Time to Pretend" below and pre-save 'Can't Cry' here.

ABOUT RYAN PERDZ

Ryan Perdz is a 25-year-old singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist from Buffalo, NY. Raised on his grandparents’ family farm, he began teaching himself guitar at age ten and expanded into bass, violin, and mandolin, developing a hands-on approach to songwriting and arrangement.

Wes Parker Releases Debut Album 'Super Rare' And Shares "Dinosaur Park" Official Video via Big Machine Rock

Rising alt-rock artist Wes Parker has today released his eagerly anticipated debut album 'Super Rare' via Big Machine Rock. In celebration of the release, Parker dropped the gorgeously cinematic official music video for his haunting single, "Dinosaur Park". Leading up to today, he released tracks "Bad Doggie" and most recently, "Little Birdie", along with their respective visual accompaniments. Speaking about "Dinosaur Park", Parker shared:

‘Dinosaur Park’ is a song inspired by the 2009 disappearance and likely murder of Susan Powell in Utah. I’m not usually a true crime person, but hearing her story deeply affected me and left me heartbroken for her and her family. This manifested through a dark but propulsive track with haunting guitar riffs and a sort of uneasy undercurrent that feels somewhere in the world of Radiohead sonically. "Mommy stayed the night where the crystals grow" is a lyric that was a direct quote from one of her late children (at the time 4 years old) when asked where their mother was the night of her disappearance.

'Super Rare' is available now on all streaming platforms at the link here. Watch the official music video for "Dinosaur Park" below.

After wrapping up his Spring headlining tour across North America, Parker is now on the road with indie-folk powerhouse Shakey Graves. Ryan Perdz Announces New Album 'Can't Cry' Out August 14 via Big Machine Rock

Buffalo, NY singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Ryan Perdz has announced his debut album 'Can't Cry', set for release on August 14 (via Big Machine Rock). In celebration of the news, Perdz has released his poignant new single "Heavy Eyes" taken from the forthcoming full-length, along with the heartbreaking official music video. Speaking about the album announcement, he commented:

'Can’t Cry' is my take on modern rock. All my inspirations in one. The lyrics on this album I hold close and I feel like it tells a story many people can relate to today, helping those who struggle in silence not feel so alone. This is my first full album and this release is really important to me. It was an amazing experience writing and recording it and I’m so excited to perform these songs live for people.

When asked about "Heavy Eyes", Perdz shared:

The inspiration behind “Heavy Eyes” is the struggle of losing someone and the weight it holds in your life. “Heavy Eyes” has a distinct sound of soft verses and powerful, anthemic choruses; it's a track that I believe will really help people who struggle with mental health. My lyrics will speak to the people who sometimes can’t speak for themselves.

Pre-save 'Can't Cry' at the link here, stream "Heavy Eyes" here, and watch the official music video below.

sace6 Release New Album 'brutalist' And "nepenthe" Official Visualizer via Sumerian Records

Genre-blending R&B metal sensation sace6 have today released their eagerly anticipated new album, 'brutalist'(via Sumerian Records). In celebration of the release, the duo shared the official visualizer for "nepenthe" from the full-length. Leading up to today, the band shared tracks "ego", "covet", "allured", and "reverie ft. jxdn" and the accompanying official videos. Speaking about the album release, sace6 commented:

"'brutalist' - our debut album, the sound designed from the most honest and vulnerable parts of our minds, it took a shape of its own to change the way our ears digest music and to reinstate what “pop music” is. yes there was intention and influence, but most importantly there was confidence in our own emotions to display sonically how we truly feel, furthering our statement one song after the other.

'brutalist' is the sonic catharsis of our lives throughout the past year. everything that we have felt, seen, and experienced is lived through every moment, lyric, melody and sustain of this record. as crushing as it is, we offer it to our listeners as a true experience of loss, grief, and redemption in self. we hope that not only do our listeners understand what’s being said, but feel it as deeply as the moment that pain was birthed."

'brutalist' is available now on all streaming platforms at the link here. Watch the official "nepenthe" visualizer below.

Wes Parker Announces New Album 'Super Rare' Out June 5 via Big Machine Rock

Richmond, Virginia, rising alt-rock artist Wes Parker has announced his eagerly anticipated debut solo album, 'Super Rare', out Friday, June 5 via Big Machine Rock. 'Super Rare' is Parker's latest body of work since 2025's fan favorites 'fantom' and 'Splinter' EPs. In celebration of the news, Parker has dropped his latest single "Little Birdie" from the forthcoming full-length along with the official music video. Speaking about 'Super Rare', Parker shared:

‘Super Rare’ feels like the closest I’ve gotten to putting my full personality on record. It reminds me of the notebooks I had growing up that were full of sketches, poems, doodles of my observations of people in the suburban America I grew up in. People describe it sounding like 90s alternative rock, bands like Radiohead, Muse and some modern day sounds, like MJ Linderman, The Shins, Mac DeMarco. It’s a melancholic record, but I wanted to let some of my comedy background into the world of the album through interludes from a fictional radio host named DJ Charlie-Horse.

When asked about "Little Birdie", he commented:

“I think of “Little Birdie” as a pretty simple four-chord psych-rock/surf-rock tune sonically. It’s about watching something in your life crumble away and feeling both mournful yet liberated. I always loved songs with choruses that just had one or two notes. It kind of whips me into a frenzy. So I thought I’d try that on a song of my own. Something about the chorus kind of reminds me of Blink-182.

Midwinter Release New Album 'A Love I Hope Will Haunt Me Forever' And "Moonveil" Official Video via Papercut Recordings

Atmospheric metalcore quintet Midwinter have today released their new album, 'A Love I Hope Will Haunt Me Forever' via Papercut Recordings. The full-length is the band's second since their 2025 debut album, 'Is There Anything You Want To Say?' and latest body of work since the release of their 'CHAPTER THREE: STILL HURTS' EP last month. The band has also dropped the official video for "Eager Tides" from the new album watch below , and has previously shared videos for "Champagne" and most recently, "Lying Figures". When asked about 'A Love I Hope Will Haunt Me Forever', Midwinter commented:

"This album came from a really personal place for us. It’s about losing someone you love and trying to make sense of everything that comes after; the doubt, the anger, the quiet moments where it all sinks in. Sonically, we let ourselves experiment and push into heavier, stranger territory, somewhere between progressive metalcore and thall with a specific emphasis on sound design. We wanted the sound of the album to reflect the raw emotion of the lyrics while also maintaining our staple modern sound."

Fans can also see the band hit the stage across the US alongside Unprocessed and Allt (ticket info here). 'A Love I Hope Will Haunt Me Forever' is available now on all streaming platforms , and watch the official "Eager Tides" video Below.

ABOUT THE PLOT IN YOU

During 2023, The Plot In You kickstarted a new era with 'Vol. 1' with Divide, having generated over 44 million Spotify streams and counting followed by Left Behind, exploding to the tune of 82.9 million Spotify streams with no signs of slowing down. Upon the arrival of ForgottenRevolver praised it among the “6 Best New Songs Right Now”The Plot In You's 'Vol. 2' EP is a powerful showcase of the band's evolution, blending raw emotion with polished musicality, and stands as a testament to the band's growth and artistic maturity, captivating listeners with its intense yet introspective narratives with tracks ClosureDon’t Look Away, and All That I Can Give further solidifying their place as one of the genre's most compelling acts. Built on the momentum of the previous installments, the penultimate 'Vol. 3' sees the band pushing their sonic and emotional boundaries even further, amplifying their inimitable blend of industrial-tinged textures, crushing heaviness and deeply introspective songwriting, leading up to the grand finale of 'The Volume Series', out Friday, July 10.

In the quartet's latest offering and first release from 'Vol. 4', "You Get One" comes out of the gates swinging with existential fury. With haunting, glitchy electronics, a driving rhythm, and vocals that fluctuate from eerily digitalized murmurs to in-your-face screams, the track serves as an observation on the counterintuitive nature of current society, and the expanse between being a human versus what it means to be human.

Holding Absence Announce Sumerian Records Signing "Whisper Of A Dream" Single And Music Video Out Now

South Wales trio Holding Absence today release "Whisper Of A Dream", their first new music since 2023’s ‘The Noble Art Of Self-Destruction’ and their first for new label Sumerian Records.

This track captures what it means to be human when hope feels out of reach. Holding Absence explore the tension between numbness and healing, tapping into a state so dark it feels almost inhuman. It is a search for something better, while watching it slip further away. Sitting between emotional hardcore and alternative, Holding Absence lean into deep vulnerability, pulling listeners into a world shaped by their lyrics and striking visual identity. The single also marks the introduction of a character that will unfold across the album campaign.

Speaking of "Whisper Of A Dream", frontman Lucas Woodland shares:

'Whisper Of A Dream' is our first song back in what feels like forever. After releasing our third record, 'The Noble Art Of Self-Destruction', it felt essential to step away for a while - to take stock and rediscover who we are as a band. "Whisper" felt like the perfect song to return with. In many ways, it represents everything Holding Absence has always been, while introducing new elements to our sound and opening the door to what comes next.

Lyrically and conceptually, the song draws heavily from cyberpunk media. Contemplation, sentience and dreaming in an ever-evolving world. The music video also introduces our robot mascot “Y4-BB0”, a character you’ll be seeing more of in the coming years.

By signing off ‘The Noble Art of Self-Destruction’ with a stark “3/3”, Holding Absence made a promise - to set fire to everything they, and their fans, thought they knew about the band. After nearly a decade of carving out a home in their post hardcore terrain, 'TNAOSD'was a final, defiant love letter to themselves - a wild, muddy exorcism of all they had been, and all that fans had grown to love about them… But the end of that campaign posed some cold, hard questions: What do we lose? And what do we keep? What does it mean - and has it meant - to the thousands of fans across the world adorned with the moth tattoo? And how do we carry out this metamorphosis without losing that?

Holding Absence is emotion. It is vulnerability and honesty. It’s the raindrops that trickle down your face on a cold walk home... The wind that blows across your cheeks as the sky splits open at sunrise. If you can feel it - raw and human - it is Holding Absence. Stream "Whisper Of A Dream" here, and watch the official music video below.

North American fans will also have their chance to see the band beginning next month at Welcome To Rockville on Thursday, May 7and at Sonic Temple the following week on Thursday, May 14. Holding Absence will also be bringing the heat to Louder Than Life on Friday, September 18 and Aftershock on Thursday, October 1 this fall. Click the link here for ticket information, and stay tuned for more Holding Absence news coming soon.

Midwinter Release New EP 'CHAPTER THREE: Still Hurts" And Drop Official Music Video For "Lying Figures" via Papercut Recordings

Atmospheric metalcore quintet Midwinter has today released their latest EP, 'CHAPTER THREE: Still Hurts' via Papercut Recordings. In celebration of the release, the band dropped the official music video for their new single, "Lying Figures". Speaking about the track, the band commented:

"This song lives in that desperate space of limbo, when you’re caught between the love you lost and the reality of having to move forward. It’s about the mental struggle of still wanting something you once had, even when you know deep down it wasn’t healthy for you. Musically, we really focused on creating something that feels truly moving. We wanted the instrumentals to carry that weight so the listener can feel the sadness and emotion behind every part of the song."

North American fans will also have the chance to see the band hit the road alongside Unprocessed and Allt, starting Monday, April 13 in Dallas, Texas (tickets on sale at the link here). Stream 'CHAPTER THREE: Still Hurts' here, and watch the official "Lying Figuresmusic video below.

About Wes Parker

For Wes Parker, sounds interlock like puzzle pieces. A ruddy guitar riff might click next to a broken piano melody, or a hauntingly angelic vocal could mesh just right with an off-kilter chord progression and D.I.Y. beat. All of these elements fit together in order to paint the personal portrait depicted in his music. It’s almost like he’s a mad scientist in his home studio, architecting poetically primal alternative rock that could’ve appeared in the MTV Buzz Bin back in the day or would make for a fiery sunset set at Coachella. The Richmond native grew up as the youngest of four kids with two older brothers and a sister. Mom bought a copy of Green Day’s American Idiot from PACSUN for him, and it proved life-changing. He honed his skills as a songwriter and producer and also devoured classics from the likes of Muse, Radiohead, and more. He dropped out of college after one semester and co-founded the band Camp Howard alongside a cohort of childhood friends. The band saw some success on DSPs and the road, touring with everyone from Stone Temple Pilots to Backseat Lovers. Though the group eventually parted ways, Wes continued to write and record on his own. After quitting a day job, he dropped his first solo single Why Won't You Pick Up The Phone? in February 2024 followed by Annie Moore and Tattoo.” Gaining momentum, he ignited 2025 with the Splinter EP applauded by VPM and more. Signing to Big Machine Rock in 2025, he emerges as just the alchemist rock music needs with his fantom EP, presenting an arresting perspective on the devil’s downfall over a cinematic soundscape threaded together by eerie piano, glitchy beats, off-kilter guitar, and transfixing vocal transmissions.
