Avatar Release Re-Recorded Piano Version of "Tower"
Heavy metal 'n' roll, dark, madcap visionaries collectively known as AVATAR — vocalist Johannes Eckerström, guitarists Jonas Jarlsby and Tim Öhrström, bassist Henrik Sandelin, and drummer John Alfredsson — are thrilled to share the brand new, re-recorded piano version of their song "Tower."
Watch the video below. Stream the song here.
This gorgeous new version is the first time the band has re-recorded a track in its career thus far. It's an uncharacteristically quiet yet incredibly powerful update.
"This version of 'Tower' became a special moment in a very special period of our lives," states Eckerström. "It feels natural to use it as a way to stop and look back for just a moment before we move forward with full force. It's a thank you to everyone who stands by our side and makes the magic happen."
The original appears on the band's beloved and critically acclaimed fifth album, Hail the Apocalypse, which was released in 2014. This rerecord is of incredible significance because AVATAR have neither ownership nor receives any royalties on Hail the Apocalypse, or any preceding albums, since 2015. The band is currently in the midst of a legal battle to reclaim their rights with former record label Fifth Island Music; formerly Gain Records, a part of Sony Music Entertainment.
In other Avatar news, the band is planning to enter the studio at the top of the year in January to begin work on its tenth studio album and the follow up to 2023's Dance Devil Dance. Jay Ruston will produce. The album is expected to be released sometime in 2025 through their own label Black Waltz Records which is distributed by Thirty Tigers.
Never one to sit back and rest on their haunches, Avatar are also opening for Iron Maiden this summer.

ABOUT ICE NINE KILLS
Decadent, devious and fiercely insane, Ice Nine Kills celebrate pop culture’s darkest edges, mining a cinephile library’s worth of iconic horror on 2018’s The Silver Scream which spawned Top 10 Mainstream Rock single “A Grave Mistake ” and Top 20 hit “Savages”. The creative marriage made in hell of music and fiction began in earnest with the Top 5 Hard Rock album, Every Trick in the Book, which brought the previous three records’ themes to new levels and which the band perfected on 2021's chart- topping smash hit ’The Silver Scream 2: Welcome to Horrorwood.’
The phenomenally successful album, released in October 2021, scored Ice Nine Kills their first Top 20 position (#18) on the Billboard Top 200, topped the Digital and Current Hard Music charts, hit Top 5 on the Current Rock, Independent, Current Albums and Album Sales charts and has clocked up 177 million cross-platform streams to date and 15 million YouTube views for singles “Hip To Be Scared”, “Assault & Batteries ”, “Rainy Day”, "Funeral Derangements", "Take Your Pick ", "The Shower Scene" and most recently, "Welcome To Horrorwood".
Since the release of 'The Silver Scream 2: Welcome To Horrorwood ', Ice Nine Kills have seen phenomenal growth. Throughout 2022 they toured the US extensively on 3 legs of The Trinity of Terror. During 2022 and throughout 2023 they supported Metallica in packed, sold-out stadiums around the world on their M72 World Tour. They toured the US with Slipknot and launched their enormously successful horror convention, The Silver Scream Con, which just celebrated it's second, sold-out edition in the fall of 2023. Spencer was featured in the music video for the official song from Scream 6 - Demi Lovato's "Still Alive", an Ice Nine Kills flyer was used in the movie and featured a Spencer-recommended easter egg. Beginning in the spring of 2023, as well as wowing packed-out stadiums around the world with Metallica, Ice Nine Kills headlined numerous sold-out shows on their Wurst Vacation European tour and thrilled tens of thousands of fans at Download Festival to huge acclaim from both critics and fans alike. They then toured the US with Falling In Reverse on their Popular Monstour run and hit the road for 'Fear The Premiere' US headline shows in August. Ice Nine Kills closed out 2023 on a high with the release of ' Welcome To Horrorwood Under Fire ', an exclusive VIP event in Hollywood for the debut of new single "Meat & Greet" and the premiere of the full "Welcome To Horrorwood Saga" movies (featuring all music videos from the album as one chronological clip) and the phenomenally successful, inaugural run of the Kiss of Death co- headline tour with In This Moment.
The band’s synergy of music and lifestyle draws favorable comparisons to Slipknot and Rob Zombie. Visionary trailblazers and multimedia raconteurs, Ice Nine Kills have built a thrilling world for a growing legion of devoted true believers, with theatrical shows, high-concept videos, and inventive band-to-fan communion. Their wildly creative output has seen them become recipients of the prestigious Clio Award for Music Marketing for their "Merry Axe-mas" mobile game and their live streaming event from October 2020, The Silver Stream be nominated for 5 awards at 2022's Horror Hound Film Festival Awards in the categories of Judges Choice, Best Sound, Best Supporting Performance, Best Cinematography and Best Feature. With almost 2 million monthly listeners on Spotify, 717 million career streams to date and over 204 million views on YouTube the band are firmly cemented as one of modern metal's most vicious forces.

About In This Moment
GRAMMY® Award-nominated act In This Moment recently announced an epic headlining tour across North America this spring featuring special guests Kim Dracula, I See Stars, and Mike’s Dead. “The GODMODE Tour,'' which celebrates the release of their 2023 album of the same name, will see the band perform at arenas and amphitheaters across the country. The upcoming trek is set to kick off April 28th at City National Grove in Anaheim, CA and continue through a May 25th performance at The Wind Creek Events Center in Bethlehem, PA.
Since coming to life in 2005, In This Moment have presided over a diehard fan base under the watch of “mother” figure and frontwoman Maria Brink—joined by co-founder and lead guitarist Chris Howorth, bassist Travis Johnson, guitarist Randy Weitzel, and drummer Kent Diimmel. As millions convened upon the group’s otherworldly and unforgettable concerts, they quietly emerged as one of the most influential and impactful bands of the 21st century.
To date, in addition to the Gold-selling album, Blood [2012], the quintet have garnered six Gold and Platinum singles, followed by a trifecta of Top 25 entries on the Billboard 200 with Black Widow [2014] and Ritual [2017]. With a total stream tally well past 200 million as of 2020, Ritual elevated them to new creative and critical peaks as well.
Between selling out headline tours coast-to-coast, the group performed in arenas everywhere alongside Disturbed and appeared at countless festivals from Rockville to Sonic Temple.
Along the way, they assembled their seventh full-length, the aptly titled Mother [Roadrunner Records] with longtime trusted collaborator Kevin Churko [Ozzy Osbourne, Five Finger Death Punch]. Whereas Ritual hinted at a bluesy sonic sorcery, Motherbreathes the activating mantra of an unbreakable spell, commenced on first single “The In-Between.”
In 2022, the band released Blood 1983 [BMG], a reimagined EP commemorating the ten-year anniversary of Blood. Then in 2023, the longtime staples of heavy music released their eighth studio album GODMODE [BMG], a 10-song record featuring the powerful lead single “THE PURGE,” the band’s stunning cover of Björk’s “ARMY OF ME,” the collaborative track “DAMAGED”which features Spencer Charnas of Ice Nine Kills, and “I WOULD DIE FOR YOU,” which appears on the soundtrack for John Wick: Chapter 4.

SWEDISH FOSSIL NAMED AFTER BAND
The heavy metal 'n' roll, dark, madcap visionaries collectively known as AVATAR — vocalist Johannes Eckerström, guitarists Jonas Jarlsby and Tim Öhrström, bassist Henrik Sandelin, and drummer John Alfredsson— are having a banner year in 2023, with lots of firsts!
They've achieved their first #1 single "The Dirt I'm Buried In" from their magnum opus and ninth album, Dance Devil Dance, produced and mixed by Jay Ruston which was released in February. The track has surged itself to #1 on Mediabase's Active Rock Chart. On Billboard's Mainstream Rock Chart, the single rises to #1 on its 31st week, making it the longest trek to #1 in 20 years! Read more about it over at Billboard.
"If you told the 16 year old me that we would hit the top of the U.S. radio charts, I'd ask you what you're smoking. If you then would proceed to tell me that a fossil would be named after us, I'd ask you what you're smoking, and if you could share. Hitting the charts was never a priority, but now that we're here, I'm grateful. It shows the reach of what we're doing and it is baffling. The fossil shows something else. That to me is a sign of people truly making our music a part of their lives. It's a true honor. A beautiful gift. All we can say is thank you. We fully intend to keep earning your participation, over and over again," says Eckerström.
Another first — Avatar have been immortalized as a fossil from Southern Sweden; discovered by Dr. Ben Thuy, a paleontologist at the Luxembourg Natural History Museum. This fossil is now known as Ophiocoma avatar. Read below to learn a little more about the Avatar fossil.
Some 80 million years ago, when dinosaurs roamed our planet, southern Sweden was located at the shores of a subtropical sea. One particular location, the old quarries at Ivö Klack, exposes an exceptional palaeo-environment that is only rarely preserved in the fossil record: a rocky shore with oyster-encrusted boulders. The mud that accumulated between these boulders millions of years ago contains the fossil remains of the animals that lived in and around the rocky shore. One of these animals is the brittle star named after Avatar: Ophiocoma avatar.
Brittle star skeletons tend to fall apart very quickly after death. As a result, most brittle-star fossils consist of tiny skeletal fragments that are collected with the sieve. The original fossil of Ophiocoma avatar is a fragment from the arm skeleton that carried the long arm spines.
The Avatar brittle star belongs to a genus that nowadays lives along tropical and subtropical shores. They are known to hide under rocks and in crevasses at daytime and emerge at night to collect food particles with their spiny arms. A remarkable feature of living Ophiocoma species is that many of them are capable of sight, without even having eyes or a brain! They can literally see with their entire body surface, and some even change color between day and night as part of a sunglass effect. Whether the Avatar brittle star exhibited the same features is impossible to determine based on fossils alone. What we can say, however, is that Ophiocoma avatar is by far the oldest known representative of this exciting group of brittle stars.
The name Ophiocoma avatar, is valid for eternity. Avatar is now a part of the Earth's history, of the palaeontological heritage of Sweden, and has gained a small piece of immortality.
The band will return to the road this fall for their headline "Chimp Mosh Pit Tour" and will be supporting Ice Nine Kills and In This Moment for their "Kiss of Death" Tour. All dates are below, including key festival appearances. Get tickets HERE.

Veil of Maya harness the individual experiences and talents of four distinct musicians—Marc Okubo [guitar], Sam Applebaum [drums], Danny Hauser [bass], and Lukas Magyar [vocals]—into airtight groove-laden metal accented by fits of instrumental virtuosity and vocal catharsis. This approach has endeared them to a devout fan base with critical acclaim and over 135 million total streams and counting (unprecedented for an outfit this crushingly heavy). The Chicago band draw on the strength of their union on their seventh full-length offering, [m]other [Sumerian Records].
Veil of Maya have consistently pushed the boundaries of heavy music by pushing themselves collectively. 2015’s Matriarchmade major waves, crashing the Billboard US Hard Rock Albums Chart at #2 powered by “Aeris,” “LeeLoo,” and “Mikasa.” The latter has gathered over 25.4 million Spotify streams and counting. In 2017, 'False Idol' saw the band return to the Top 3 of the Hard Rock Albums Chart as “Overthrow” and “Doublespeak” each eclipsed 8 million-plus Spotify streams apiece. The record also incited the applause of LoudWire, Substream Magazine, Metal Hammer, and Invisible Oranges who raved, “False Idol is undeniably Veil of Maya: greatly contrasting the band’s past, it serves as a companion and booster for their older work.” Simultaneously, they toured alongside Animals As Leaders, Upon A Burning Body, Chelsea Grin, Oceans Ate Alaska, and more. In the midst of the Pandemic, they dropped “Outsider,” “Viscera,” and “Outrun.”
The Chicago band now draw on the strength of their union on their seventh full-length offering, [m]other [Sumerian Records]. In short, this is Veil of Maya at their collective best. Speaking on his hopes for his band's upcoming opus, guitarist, Marc Okuboshares
“I hope you’re inspired to listen to this again and again. Maybe you’ll hone in on the little details as you go further, and it will musically become a cinematic experience.”
Avatar's New Album "DANCE DEVIL DANCE" Out Today + Band Touring The U.S. This Spring
AVATAR RELEASE NEW ALBUM DANCE DEVIL DANCE TODAY, FEBRUARY 17, VIA BLACK WALTZ RECORDS, DISTRIBUTED BY THIRTY TIGERS
BAND TO EMBARK ON HEADLINE U.S. TOUR THIS SPRING
The heavy metal 'n' roll, dark, madcap visionaries collectively known as AVATAR — vocalist Johannes Eckerström, guitarists Jonas Jarlsby and Tim Öhrström, bassist Henrik Sandelin, and drummer John Alfredsson — released their magnum opus and ninth album Dance Devil Dance, today, February 17, via Black Waltz Records, distributed by Thirty Tigers. Get it here.
"Dance Devil Dance is the culmination of the most intense artistic journey of our lives," the band says. "We haven't been this excited about putting out new music since our first demo, way back when. We have made a point out of treating every album like our last, never taking what we get to do for granted. This holds true for this one as well. That being said, in more ways than one, this feels like our first. We have fallen in love with the noise, the chaos, and the creation all over again. It's hard to find words for it. It's just so very special to us. It's good that the day has finally come."
The almighty Avatar will also return to the road this spring on a headline tour that kicks off April 28 in Omaha and runs through May 28 in Pittsburgh. Veil of Maya and Orbit Culture will support. All dates are below, including key spring festival appearances. Get tickets here.

The heavy metal 'n' roll, dark, madcap visionaries collectively known as AVATAR — vocalist Johannes Eckerström, guitarists Jonas Jarlsby andTim Öhrström, bassist Henrik Sandelin, and drummer John Alfredsson — have unleashed yet another track from their upcoming magnum opus and ninth album Dance Devil Dance, out Febriuary 17 via Black Waltz Records, distributed by Thirty Tigers. Eckerström says, "'Violence No Matter What' is about one thing and one thing only. It's ok to debate and fight and to think differently. But there is a limit, and the line must be drawn at authority held with violence, a world view that cannot survive without enemies, a promised return to a fabricated former glory."
Hale says, "'Violence No Matter What' was such an inspiring piece to be a part of! Thank you so much to the boys for giving me the opportunity to express my angst against the horrors of this world through such a brilliant song!"

AVATAR’s current album Hunter Gatherer, out now via eOne, marked the darkest and most thought-provoking release of the band’s over decade long career. A striking and bold manifesto, the album is an unflinchingly ruthless study of a clueless humankind’s ever-increasing velocity into an uncertain future, furthering the reach of the band’s always expanding dark roots. The band’s ambitious new era found the band featured as the cover story of Revolver Magazine’s Fall Issue, where frontman Johannes Eckerström reflects about the power of live performance during a year that has changed the landscape of live music. In 2019, AVATAR reunited with producer Jay Ruston (Stone Sour, Anthrax) at Sphere Studios in Los Angeles, California, where the foundation for each song on Hunter Gatherer was laid with the band performing altogether, as they'd done only once before, on Hail the Apocalypse(2014). The old-school method of playing as one in the studio, more akin to how they are on stage, captured the essence of AVATAR. Recorded entirely to two-inch tape, Hunter Gatherer exhibits everything that makes AVATARstandouts in the vast, rich landscape of heavy metal's past and present.

“Silence in the Age of Apes a furious four-and-a-half minute blaze of machine-gun-style kick drumming, powerful chant vocals and guitar work to marvel aplenty courtesy of resident axemen Jonas "Kungen" Jarlsby and Tim Öhrström.” - Guitar World

July 9, 2020 - As AVATAR steps closer to the highly-anticipated release of their eighth full-length, Hunter Gatherer, the band has delighted fans once again with the debut of their third single from the record, “Colossus”. Unsettling electronic instrumentation sets the tone as Johannes Eckerström provides the introduction to the track, from which the band bursts into chugging guitar lines, eerie verses and soaring choruses - culminating in one of the most dynamic tracks on the album. The accompanying video for “Colossus” mirrors the dystopian reincarnation of the band as it explores humanity’s vicious and complex relationship with technology and control. “Colossus” serves as the dark counterpart to previously released singles from Hunter Gatherer - “God of Sick Dreams” and “Silence in the Age of Apes” - the latter of which is already named one of the best metal songs of the year so far by Loudwire.
Their bold manifesto, Hunter Gatherer, is an unflinchingly ruthless study of a clueless humankind’s ever-increasing velocity into an uncertain future, furthering the reach of the band’s always expanding dark roots. The forthcoming album is the darkest, most sinister version of the band yet, with deep studies of cruelty, technology, disdain, and deprivation. Already one of Metal Hammer’s most anticipated metal albums of the year, Hunter Gatherer is now available for pre-order here ahead of its official release on August 7th.
Earlier this year the band marked the end of the Avatar Country storyline with the heartfelt thank you video A Farewell To Avatar Country, concluding the realm created by the band and actualized in their epic featurette Legend Of Avatar Country: A Metal Odyssey that blew past a $50,000 Kickstarter campaign goal in less than 90 minutes. Released in 2018, Avatar Countrydebuted at #2 Indie, #4 Hard Music, #8 Rock, and #25 on the Billboard 200 Chart and gathering support from Loudwire, Revolver, Metal Hammer, Metal Injection, Rock Sound, Alternative Press, New Noise and many more for their music and storytelling ability.

June 12, 2020 - AVATAR has shared their latest single “God of Sick Dreams” with an accompanying visualizer from their highly anticipated full-length, Hunter Gatherer, due out August 7th, 2020 via Entertainment One (eOne). The track finds the band with no shortage of chugging riffs that revolve around some of the band’s catchiest choruses and heaviest moments to date. “God of Sick Dreams” exemplifies how each song across Hunter Gatherer can stand on its own while carrying thematic threads throughout the album. The deliberate new track follows the widely praised thrashing leading single “Silence in the Age of Apes”, which passed 100,000 views in under 24 hours and has gathered 1 Million plays since its release.

Released in 2018, Avatar Country debuted at #2 Indie, #4 Hard Music, #8 Rock, and #25 on the Billboard 200 Chart and gathering support from Loudwire, Revolver, Metal Hammer, Metal Injection, Rock Sound, Alternative Press, New Noise and many more for their music and storytelling ability.
In 2019, AVATAR reunited with producer Jay Ruston (Stone Sour, Slipknot, Anthrax) at Sphere Studios in Los Angeles, California, where the foundation for each song on Hunter Gatherer was laid with the band performing altogether, as they'd done only once before, on Hail the Apocalypse (2014). The old-school method of playing as one in the studio, more akin to how they are on stage, captured the essence of AVATAR. Recorded entirely to two-inch tape, Hunter Gathererexhibits everything that makes AVATAR standouts in the vast, rich landscape of heavy metal's past and present.
Through ambitious compositions and vibrant visual storytelling AVATAR seamlessly blurs the line between sights and sounds. AVATAR songs are new anthems for the ages, precision heat-seeking missiles targeting a cultural landscape ready for fresh songs to champion from a band with a giant persona to rally behind. The AVATAR experience is challenging, daring, and altogether captivating.
