TEMIC Release Zardonic Remix

"Falls somewhere between Leprous, Sleep Token, Haken, DT & Pain Of Salvation…amazing stuff, insane playing, check it out if you haven’t already!" - Mike Portnoy

TEMIC prove that there really is strength in numbers. Eric Gillette (Neal Morse) and Diego Tejeida (Devin Townsend, ex-Haken) had already toured the world together with Mike Portnoy's Shattered Fortress. But after they joined forces with Maraton's Fredrik Klemp and Simen Sandnes from SHINING, they formed a new supergroup. The Prog Report was so impressed by TEMIC's debut, that they dubbed Terror Management Theory one of the best albums of last year.

Now, TEMIC are extending their collaborative streak to a whole 'nother level. Today, prog-metal's new sensation are hitting the dance floor with a special remix by none other than DJ ZARDONIC.

Listen to the Drum & Bass remix of "Once More" below.

Terror Management Theory is out now on Season of Mist.

"Once More" kicks out a djenty riff that's in the running for the most headbanging moment on Terror Management Theory, but the skittering drum pattern points to the song's initial inspiration. After all, it was originally called "Pendulum" in honor of the celebrated Australian Drum & Bass group. "Diego and I are both avid D&B fans", says Simen. "When we got to talking about how fantastic it would be to remix songs from the album, I knew exactly who to approach for this track".

While known for his menacing black-and-white mask, Zardonic is recognized by even the most extreme corners of the underground. The EDM behemoth has put his hard-hitting, fleet-footed spin on Gorgoroth, Fear Factory, Bullet for My Valentine and Simen's other band SHINING. "I admire Zardonic's style immensely" Simen says. "No matter what it sounds like, you can always tell when you're listening to one of his songs".

The connection between these two international players doesn't stop there, either. Not only does Zardonic play the same brand of keyboard as Diego. He's a fellow metalhead who's followed all four members of TEMIC throughout their careers.

"It was an honor and an absolute blast to work with this dream lineup of a band!" says Zardonic. "I have so much respect for their musicianship and am thankful for the opportunity to bring their sound into the Drum & Bass scene. I hope all the ravers will dance their socks off to this remix. I'm already raving to do this again!"

The fit might've been obvious to both parties, but Zardonic does sneak a nice surprise into "Once More". The song starts off at a quiet build, only to explode into a full-blown rager. "I wonder if I have a reason to reach for the stars" Klemp belts propelled by surging synths and a hard-charging beat that's bound to get everyone's blood (and fists!) pumping in the mosh pit.

Diego Tejeida and Eric Gillette's vision for TEMIC wasn't exactly simple: synthesize their love for high-energy electronica and flashy riffs into a killer prog-metal hybrid. But after recruiting former soccer prodigy-turned-Zildjian-endorsed drummer Simen Sandnes (SHINING, Arkentype) to go along with the high-powered falsetto of Fredrik Klemp (Maraton), together, the supergroup managed to connect all those puzzle pieces on their very first album.

TEMIC Release Acoustic Version of "Falling Away"

TEMIC arrived on the scene fully formed. The Prog Report nominated their debut album for best song, video and album of 2023. Of course, the runaway success of Terror Management Theory wasn't too terribly surprising. After all, these guys joined forces after playing with Devin Townsend, Neal Morse and Mike Portnoy's Shattered Fortress.

Even when paired down, this band is still a super group. Watch Fredrik Klemp and Eric Gillette flex their tender muscles on this live acoustic version of "Falling Away".

Watch the video for "Falling Away (Live Acoustic)" below.

This video was directed and produced by TEMIC's drummer Simen Sandnes. It was recorded live at Stora Teatern in Gothenburg, Sweden. The theater is just a floor up from the studio where Sandnes recorded the drums on Terror Management Theory

Stream: https://temic.fanlink.to/FallingAwayAcoustic

Terror Management Theory is riddled with power-prog anthems, though none soar higher than "Falling Away". The studio recording jumps out of your speakers with booming drum fills and chugging riffs. But while dialed down to little more than brittle, acoustic plucking, this live acoustic version is no less powerful. "I will give in to the eternal night", Klemp sings, as if preparing to float off and join the great gig in the sky. The way his falsetto lightly shatters against Gillette's gentle harmonies, it's like the two are orbiting one another, the way only true superstars can.

"'Falling Away' is one of our favorite tracks from our debut album" says TEMIC,  "not only due to the musical elements present on the album version but because of its lyrics and vocal melodies.  That is why Eric and Fredrik decided to grace us with this heartfelt, stripped-down acoustic version that focuses the spotlight on these core elements. Enjoy!"

TEMIC broke into the world of prog music with a bang last year. Terror Management Theory topped the charts in the Netherlands and reached #15 on iTunes Worldwide Metal chart.

Now, prog's new supergroup is rolling that breakout momentum under the bright lights of the Midwinter Prog Festival. Don't miss the chance to see them next Saturday, when they'll perform songs off their debut album for the very first time!

Terror Management Theory is perfect for busting out the air guitar. But now fans can also hit all the album’s high notes by downloading the song stems on Bandcamp. With these stems, budding musicians can learn the guitar, bass, drum and keyboard parts for all 10 songs. They can also be used by producers to remix prog anthems like “Count Your Losses” into thumping club bangers or a stripped-down yet soaring ballad.

Introducing TEMIC—prog’s newest, most ambitious, and most adrenaline-fueled act. TEMIC melds the creative minds of keyboardist and sound designer Diego Tejeida (Devin Townsend, Mike Portnoy’s Shattered Fortress, ex-Haken), guitarist Eric Gillette (The Neal Morse Band, Mike Portnoy’s Shattered Fortress), drummer Simen Sandnes (SHINING, Arkentype), and vocalist Fredrik Klemp (Maraton, 22).

The origins of TEMIC date back to 2017, when Tejeida and Gillette toured the world as band members of Mike Portnoy’s Shattered Fortress. From the very first chords they exchanged, their musical chemistry both on and off stage was undeniable, leading them to discuss the prospect of starting a new band together. Unfortunately, conflicting tour and recording commitments forced them to turn their attention elsewhere for years—that is, until the world came to a standstill in 2020, and Tejeida called Gillette to ask a fateful question:
“Remember how we said we should make music together? Well, how about now?”

Thus, the first demos for what would later become TEMIC’s 2023 debut album, Terror Management Theory, began to emerge. Within a few weeks after that initial phone call, the musical vision of TEMIC had become clear: Let’s create progressive music that is heavily influenced by high-energy electronic music, but arranged and orchestrated for a 5-piece modern prog rock/metal band—where, at last, the pulse can be the focus, and the vocal melody can be king.

Eager to join forces with the very best bandmates, Tejeida and Gillette first summoned the rhythmic power of their friend and drummer Sandnes. With characteristic enthusiasm, Sandnes seized the opportunity, prepared to contribute his percussive prowess as the heartbeat of TEMIC. When it came time to find the singer that would carry TEMIC’s melodies to new heights, Sandnes recommended vocal powerhouse Klemp, whose emotive delivery and unmatched intensity left no doubt that he was destined to be the voice of TEMIC. Finally, to round out the rhythm section of Terror Management Theory, dynamic bassist Jacob Umansky (Intervals) was invited on board as a guest player, gracing the album with an unrivaled groove and a signature low-end sound.

Together, this mammoth lineup is TEMIC, a high-energy, electronic-inspired, modern melodic prog metal band for the next generation.

TEMIC Release Acoustic Version of "Acts of Violence"

TEMIC revolve around many moving parts: djenty riffs, acrobatic drum breakdowns, neon synth runs that pump hard enough to ignite a rave. After all, they are prog's new supergroup.

Today, TEMIC are revealing yet another piece of their proggy puzzle with a pared-down performance of what's perhaps the most tender deep cut on their new album.

Watch the video for "Acts of Violence (Live Acoustic)" below:

This video was directed and produced by TEMIC's drummer Simen Sandnes. It was recorded live at Stora Teatern in Gothenbrug, Sweden. The theater is just a floor up from the studio where Sandes recorded the drums on Terror Management Theory.

"Acts of Violence" already showed off the softer, more introspective side of Terror Management Theory. The song fits squarely within the album's larger theme of wrestling with our own mortality, but this new acoustic version really strips those emotions bare. The recording's rafter-reaching guitar solo resigns to a jazzy piano interlude that's so delicate it could shatter at any moment beneath Diego Tejeida's nimble fingers. But Fredrik Klemp still packs plenty of firepower with his booming falsetto.

"This impromptu, one-take performance occurred at Stora Teatern in Gothenburg, Sweden, in February 2022, during the vocal recording sessions at Top Floor Studios", says TEMIC. "The video - shot by our drummer Simen -captures the sincere and intimate nature of the moment. Fredrik and Diego didn't rehearse or pre-arrange this version; it was a real-time improvisation. It's been a month since the release of Terror Management Theory, and we're thrilled with the response it's received. To show our gratitude, we want to share this performance with you.

We hope you enjoy it!"

TEMIC Release Video for "Through the Sands of Time"

TEMIC are already living up to their billing as prog's new supergroup. Their debut album, Terror Management Theory, just topped the charts in the Netherlands and reached #15 on iTunes Worldwide Metal chart.

Today, TEMIC are releasing a stylish and scenic new video for "Through the Sands of Time", the sweeping 7-minute opener from Terror Management Theory. The song showcases the full range of the band's superpowers: melodic cleans, djenty riffs, keys that swirl and sizzle amid grooving technical breakdowns, not one but two arpeggiated guitar solos. They're only one album in, but TEMIC are proving they really are the full package.

"Our drummer, Simen Sandnes, produced this music video in Iceland, exploring a visually aesthetic interpretation of "Through the Sands of Time", says TEMIC.

"The chorus encourages the listener to let go of their past, to ‘burn it all’ in order to ‘fly high’ and ‘breathe life’. This contrasts with the melancholic nature of the verses, which reflect on the past and question the present: ‘What is true?’ Sometimes, we spend so much time regretting and reassessing that we forget the hourglass of our lives is constantly running.

We hope you are all enjoying TMT. We are all absolutely astounded by the response we’ve received!"

Clocking in at a few ticks shy of six minutes, lead single "Count Your Losses" gives TEMIC plenty of time to show off their deep bag of tricks. Behind Klemp's melodic tenor, the band roll out an arena-ready guitar solo, scatting drum fills, fretless bass runs and synths that are built for a rave (and that only covers the bridge!).

"This album is as finely tuned and stately as the best passion projects", says
Distorted Sound.

"Falling Away" catches TEMIC at the peak of their superpowers, uplifted by riffs that alternate between beefy distortion and nimble fretting, while a white-hot keyboard solo blasts off just before the drums clamp down with booming finesse.

Klemp's piercing vocal carries a hopeful message, too. "We will fight until the rays of light stand high", he sings, backed by not one but two choirs during the seven-minute closer "Mothallah", which never stops climbing toward the sky.

"The time is upon us! Today, the release of our debut album marks the culmination of TEMIC’s gestation phase. As this opus finally reaches the listeners’ ears, TEMIC is now fully born. Welcome, 'Terror Management Theory,' an album born from dark times, yet serving as a strong beacon of hope, inspiring us to look to the future to the precise moment it would see the light of day."

TEMIC Release Epic Closer off New Album

TEMIC are prog's new supergroup, but all four members navigated quite the career maze to reach this point. These guys have played with Devin Townsend, Mike Portnoy's Shattered Fortress, Neal Morse, SHINING and Maraton. It's fitting then that their debut album is layered with twists and turns.

Today, TEMIC are releasing the album's epic closer. Watch the video for "Mothallah", a seven-minute epic that never stops reaching for the stars.

'Terror Management Theory' comes out November 17.

"Terror Management Theory" puts a proggy and positive spin on a new psychological theory. Instead of falling into despair over thoughts about our own mortality, the album finds a sense of purpose by recognizing that life is too precious not to live every moment to the max. Its grand closing statement,"Mothallah", presents TEMIC at their peak.

At just under eight minutes, the song has room for  twinkling keys, riffing synths, zero-gravity double bass kicks, two choirs and a classic arena rock solo that will have you down on both knees shredding your air guitar. "We will fight until the rays of light stand high", sings Fredrik Bergersen with such booming, keening conviction, that even a nihilist would have no choice but to believe that this band is truly divine.

Here's what TEMIC have to say about their new single:

"The lyrics in ‘Mothallah’ come from the personified perspective of our inner survival-seeking selves, encouraging us to reconcile and reconnect with our inner strength and self-confidence, especially when facing great challenges or fighting fears.

The choir brings to life a sense of community and belonging, realizing that not only as individuals, but also as a species, do we all face challenges and ‘fight through the darkest night…’

For this self-produced video, we wanted to emphasize that the band members come from very different backgrounds, nationalities and ethnicities. Even when living thousands of kilometers away, it is music that bring us all together."

TEMIC came together from across the globe, but they also share a wide variety of influences.

Check out the playlist that the prog supergroup update each month on Spotify. The September edition features GoGo Penguin, The Dillinger Escape Plan, Periphery, Mastodon, Gojira, Infected Mushroom and Vangelis.

TEMIC Fall Upward on New Single

TEMIC formed when the rest of the world was grinding to a halt. Eric Gillette and Diego Tejeida had already toured the world together as members of Mike Portnoy's Shattered Fortress, but it wasn't until 2020 that they decided to start a super group with Arkentype drummer Simen Sandnes and Fredrik Klemp, who's the lead vocalist for Maraton.

Today, TEMIC are releasing another power prog anthem off 'Terror Management Theory'. Watch the sublime, self-produced video for "Falling Away" below.

The video was shot in the Norwegian village of Bortelid earlier this summer and marks the first time all four members of TEMIC got together in person as a band!

'Terror Management Theory' comes out November 17. Pre-order the album

"Falling Away" is uplifted by the full range of TEMIC's powers. Gillette alternates between beefy distortion and warped, nimble riffing. Tejeida fires off a white-hot keyboard solo before Simen Sandnes fills the bridge with booming finesse.

"It's one of our favorite songs on the album," the band says. "The song embodies all the core elements we envisioned for TEMIC: powerful lyrics and catchy vocal melodies at the forefront, a constant pulse underneath, dynamic and rich instrumentation all around, and electronic-influenced sounds adorning the edges".

Klemp's clean, commanding falsetto delivers a hopeful message, too. "The lyrics discuss the natural impermanence of all things from the perspective of someone who contemplates their own mortality and shares this moment of clarity with their descendants," says TEMIC. "Far from being dark, "Falling Away" invites you to reflect positively on the fact that our time is finite".

The members of TEMIC have also jammed with Devin Townsend and Neal Morse. Simen Sandnes comes from an equally impressive, albeit slightly different background.

Sandnes played soccer semi-professionally up until he was 16 years old. Once he reached high school though, the Norwegian prodigy spent most of his time drumming at his school's rehearsal space, where he now teaches part-time.

Since then, he's drummed for Arkentype, SHINING, the Kingdom Hearts soundtrack and an official world cup song. No wonder he's endorsed by Zildjian and Mapex.

New proggressive supergroup TEMIC announce debut album

TEMIC are announcing their debut album today. 'Terror Management Theory' is an energetic, heartfelt journey through the human experience. It speaks to our fears, as well as our instinctive drive to persist. But to reach this point, all four members of this prog supergroup had to navigate quite the career path.

Guitarist Eric Gillette first hit it off with Diego Tejeida (keyboards, sound design) while the two played together in the touring band for Mike Portnoy's Shattered Fortress. Simen Sandness drums for Shining and Arkentype, while Fredrik Bergersen Klemp still shows off his range as the singer for Maraton.

When Gillette and Tejedia decided to start a band together while the world was shut down in 2020, their idea wasn't necessarily simple: orchestrate their love for high-energy electronica and killer melodies into a modern prog-metal band. But on their first-ever single, Temic have no problem pulling off that whole concept.

Clocking in at just shy of six minutes, "Count Your Losses" gives TEMIC plenty of time to show off. The band roll out an arena-ready guitar solo  to go along with scatting drum fills, fretless bass runs and synths built for a rave. And just think - that only covers the bridge!

Add all of that together with Bergersen Klemp's clean, melodic tenor, and you get the perfect introduction to progressive metal's newest sensation.

""Count Your Losses" depicts the beginning of our journey," says TEMIC. "It's also the very first song that we wrote as a band. We've been anxiously waiting for this moment, and now it's finally here!"
