Defiled have long since mastered the vile art of old-school death metal. Ever since they first erupted with wrath out of the Tokyo underground at the tail-end of the '90s, Yusuke Sumita and his band of bloodthirsty samurai have left nothing but inevitable ruin in their wake. They've toured with fellow legends like Mayhem, Incantation, Morbid Angel and Cannibal Corpse, leading crowds from as far away as Milwaukee Metal Festival to lose their sanity.

After their last album, it's understandable if metalheads believed that Defiled had reached the highest level. But now, just one year later, the Japanese legends have topped themselves once again with their upcoming eighth album. Horror Beyond Horror is the kind of good ol' fashioned ass-kicking that only a true master can deliver. As demonstrated by its flying and furious title track, the band's reign of total dominance is endless thanks to their bottomless arsenal of finishing moves.

After 30 years of slicing and dicing, Defiled know where to stick the blade. The band's new title tracks shreds through the psychological horrors of mind control with riffs that are honed from their sharp influence of '80s thrash and hardcore. "The time has come", frontman Shinichiro Hamada spits at his captors with utter disgust. "Death strikes you with derision".

With three albums now under their belts in the past four years, Defiled certainly don't have the patience to suffer any fools. Halfway through its brutal punishment, "Horror Beyond Horror" is whipped along by a squealing whammy bar and blast beats that are more piercing and precise than a firing squad.

But the band aren't afraid to crack open people's skulls, either. "What sets Defiled's old-school approach apart from the plethora of modern imitators is a refined sense of songcraft", says Lambgoat. It still cuts to the raw truth, but "Horror Beyond Horror" is also thick with stomach-churning tempo twists. Just as they seem to settle into a skull-crushing groove, the band fly off the rails with more fret-ripping madness. And yet - amidst the song's deranged lunacy, Defiled never fail to lure you back into the pit.

Movements Announce Deluxe Edition of "RUCKUS!"

Southern California post-hardcore band MOVEMENTS — Patrick Miranda, vocals; Ira George, guitar; Spencer York, drums; and Austin Cressey, bass — are proud to announce the deluxe edition of their 2023-released album RUCKUS!

But this is no ordinary deluxe edition. It's packed with extras that fans will be eager to get their hands on.

Movements look to enhance RUCKUS! by remixing the entire album with six different remixers/producers for RUCKUS! (The Remixes).

On November 1, the digital-only RUCKUS! (The Remixes) will drop, with 11 remixes of the 10 original album tracks.

The single "Lead Pipe" will have two remixes. 

On December 13, the vinyl version of RUCKUS! (Deluxe Edition) will feature the full original album, along with the new song "Afraid to Die" and the 11 remixes. It will include "Lead Pipe (Live at Studio 4)" on Flexi.

ABOUT MOVEMENTS:
It's been a whirlwind few years for Movements as evidenced by the fact that band's 2020 album No Good Left to Give debuted at #3 on the Alternative chart and their streams have doubled since then with 300 million total streams in the U.S. alone. However, despite their success, the Southern Californian act have constantly reinvented themselves since forming in 2015 and the band's third full-length RUCKUS! sees the post-hardcore quartet taking their sound to expansive and sometimes unexpected places. Produced by longtime collaborator Will Yip (Circa Survive, Code Orange), the album fuses post-hardcore and punk influences with a healthy dose of pop songcraft to create an album that defies scene conventions in favor of something wholly unique. In order to accomplish this, the band made three extended trips to Yip's Studio 4 in Conshohocken, Pennsylvania, to write and record the collection of songs that would end up as RUCKUS! "I truly don't believe that it could have been a more streamlined process and I don't think we've ever written music that's as good as what we put together for this record," Miranda explains. RUCKUS! sees the band integrating decidedly different influences such as Gorillaz and Strokes into their sound to challenge people's preconceptions.

Permafrost - new single 'Ultimo August'

Permafrost is a post-punk band, originally from Molde in Norway, which was formed in 1982 by school friends Frode Heggdal Larsen & Kåre Steinsbu. Robert Heggdal & Trond Tornes joined in 2001, and Daryl Bamonte in 2016. They take their name from a song by Magazine, and other influences are Joy Division, The Cure, Talking Heads, Pere Ubu, Fad Gadget, The Residents, Wire and Wolfgang Press. Trond Tornes left the band in 2022 to pursue other projects.

To date they have released the five critically acclaimed singles, 'Femme Fatale', 'Closed Eyes', 'Restore Us' and 'Come Back To Surprise', which all reached #1 on the Indie Disko Top40 chart (“Closed Eyes” for 6 consecutive weeks) as well as listing high on both the Deutsche Alternative and Native25 charts. They were added to numerous playlists including Apple Music’s 'New in Rock'. This year 'Wrong Heart' went top 5 in the ID Top40.

'Ultimo August' is the latest single from their forthcoming album 'The Light Coming Through', which will be released in Autumn 2024 on their own Fear of Music label.

Chase Rice Unveils Haunting Murder Ballad “Haw River” off Independent Album 'Go Down Singin’' Due Sept. 20

Celebrated by Billboard for “having storytelling details tumble from his lips, his portraits created quickly and efficiently,” Diamond-certified songwriter Chase Rice unveils his latest gripping narrative via today’s release of “Haw River,” offering fans a further glimpse into his highly anticipated independent album, Go Down Singin’, arriving Sept. 20. Inspired by a chance encounter during a writing retreat in Wilmington, N.C. with Blake Pendergrass – who also served as Rice’s writing partner on the recently released autobiographical title track – the haunting and evocative song showcases his ability to weave gripping narratives with a raw emotional core.
 
As Rice recalls of the chilling murder ballad’s origin, “We met a girl who said, ‘I’m Kayla from Haw River,’ and my ears just went up. Blake said, ‘We should make that a murder ballad…’ and we were off. Between the series 1923 about those priests beating up and raping Native American girls and our imaginations, it got pretty dark.”
 
With vivid lyrics and a stirring melody, “Haw River” tells the story of a preacher who exploits his power, only to face retribution at the hands of one of his victims, highlighting Rice’s continued evolution as a storyteller and his deep connection to the themes that resonate with him. The song joins a collection of songs that explore themes of growth, loss and redemption on Go Down Singin’, marking a significant moment in his musical journey as he bets on himself with the independent release. 
 
“Go Down Singin’ is about where I am right now,” Rice shares of the Oscar Charles-produced project. “It’s about taking everything I’ve been through, all the mistakes and the lessons learned, and turning them into something meaningful. Cheatham County Newcomer Preston James Releases Music Video for "Fences"

With his long hair, blonde scruff and dark eyes, southern rocker Preston James certainly looks the part. But it’s his soulful vocals and heartfelt lyrics that will convince you he’s come a long way from the clean-cut kid who first plied the boards of Broadway nearly a decade ago. 

Since then, the Cheatham County native—who was offered his first publishing deal at 18—has announced himself to the Row, signing with publishers King Pen Music and Warner Chappell Music and inking a booking deal with The Neal Agency. 

Brian Carothers and Evan Kantor, both agents with The Neal Agency, are firmly in James’s corner. “Preston is sitting on an unbelievable debut EP,” Carothers says. “I’ll never forget the day he played it for everyone here. The excitement in the room was special, and we’re all thrilled to be working with him.” Adds Kantor, “From the moment we all heard the music, we were sold on Preston’s talent. What’s been even more exciting is seeing how incredible his live show is. We are honored to be a part of bringing that to the masses.”

James notes this one is extra special because it is autobiographical. “I first met Charity (Bowden), my fiancée, at age 15 and we became fast friends but reaching where we are now has been quite the journey.” It took some convincing and several years to become more than friends, and when the relationship evolved, Charity’s father had reservations about her dating a long-haired country singer. But, James explains, “I eventually realized what really mattered, persevered and overcame every fence in front of me because I knew without a doubt that she was the one.”

The music video for “Fences,” produced and directed by Jim Cook, Cookhouse Media, is being released today. Both “Fences” and “Deal with the Devil” are featured on White Trash from Way Back, James’s five-song EP set to debut Oct. 25. Next up off the EP is “Heartbreak’s on You,” due out Sept. 20. Each cut showcases James’s passion for storytelling as he moves effortlessly from small-town love song to hillbilly headbanger, narrating the vagaries of rural life.

Autumn Kings Sign to Hopeless Records // Listen to "SLEEP WHEN I'M DEAD" + "HELLBOUND"

Rock band AUTUMN KINGS, who have been steadily buzzing for the past year and with over 40 million streams and counting, have a landed a brand new label home. 

The trio, known for crafting unforgettably hooky anthems, has officially signed to Hopeless Records, and will commence working on material imminently.

"We are so excited to officially sign a record deal with Hopeless Records," the band says. "We've admired the label's fierce independent spirit for over a decade and they helped give careers to some of our favorite bands who changed our lives and inspired us to do music — Avenged Sevenfold, Sum 41, and Yellowcard, to name a few. The band continues, "Our most recent releases, 'SLEEP WHEN I'M DEAD' and 'HELLBOUND' both touch on the spirit of conquest — both physically and mentally. Both tracks have garnered airplay on SiriusXM's Octane, among others.

Autumn Kings have had their music played on Football Night In America; at Detroit Red Wings games; in Major League Baseball stadiums; and on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert.  They spent the summer of 2023 touring Pacific and Japanese military bases and have opened for Bush, Dorothy, Tea Party, X Ambassadors, and Mutemath. 

Extinction A.D. 'To The Detested' | Drop Music Video For New Track "Burnt Sienna"

Extinction A.D., New York's relentless purveyors of ferocious hardcore tinged thrash metal, have released their brand new album, 'To The Detested' today via Unique Leader Records. Unwavering in its brutality and pulling no punches from a lyrical perspective. The band's fourth studio album sees the band continue to expand and evolve their sound and embrace new influences. This evolution is most apparent on today's focus track, 'Burnt Sienna', crafted in homage to frontman, Rick Jimenez' Puerto Rican heritage, incorporating elements of Bomba and hearing Rick sing in Spanish for the first time on an Extinction A.D. track. Rick's vulnerable experiences that shaped the song and the band's journey to creating the song have been captured in a mini-documentary, that will premiere on Monday, August 19th HERE.

Speaking on "Burnt Sienna", Rick Jimenez shares

"This entire song was a crazy journey from start to finish. From conception of incorporating Bomba into our typical metal style, to singing in Spanish, to diving into the "personal turmoil turned pride in exploration” of my Puerto Rican heritage and my upbringing in an unwelcoming environment, to putting together the exposition video doc of the creation of the song, to choosing this as a single. It’s a lot of personal exposition and being raw about my own individual experiences and evolution as I grow older in this world while simultaneously coming to terms with some things and discovering others." 

Speaking on the release of the album today, Jimenez continues

"This album took on a life of its own very quickly and is by far the freshest one of our career. There was no second guessing or laboring over anything, it was pure unbridled energy from the first note of the first song we wrote to the final sound we recorded. We’ve never pulled any punches musically or lyrically but this is a whole new level of intensity, vitriol and honesty. It is not for the thin-skinned or the weak hearted. WME, UMPG, FBMM Rally Behind Newcomer Christian Hayes

Christian Hayes was living in Rome, Georgia and working at an oil company when he posted a video singing his self-penned song “Leaving” to his Instagram in September 2023, catching the attention of Wildrose Projects artist manager Helena Capps. After exchanging a series of messages and music links, the two entered a management agreement and set to work – with Hayes hitting the studio to record “Leaving,” since-viral single “LILY” (released to DSPs this spring, amassing over 2 million streams) and recent release “Cheyenne.”
 
Now, Hayes is building on the momentum by expanding his team even further, signing with William Morris Endeavor (WME) for booking, Universal Music Publishing Group (UMPG) for publishing and Flood Bumstead McCready & McCarthy (FBMM) for business management. Additional representation includes Safford Motley PLC’s Scott Safford as attorney and Essential Broadcast Media for publicity. Hayes is also signed to ASCAP. 
 
“Music has always been a part of my life and now, it always will be,” shares Hayes. “Not many people get to live out their passion and purpose and I’m beyond blessed to do so thanks to this amazing team we’ve built. I’m excited to start this journey alongside all of them!”
 
Hayes was just seven years old when his Grandpa Jack, a former poet laureate for the state of Georgia, gave him his first journal. He encouraged Hayes to utilize the empty pages to write whatever he wanted – poems, songs or feelings – enforcing the understanding that his words were one of the few things that were solely his.
 
"After hearing ‘LILY,’ we were huge fans of Christian’s songwriting," says Cyndi Forman, Senior VP, A&R, UMPG Nashville. "Once we heard him perform live, we knew we had something incredibly special on our hands. Christian’s approach to songwriting is unique yet fits right in at a time when genres are blending."

Surrounded by family, poverty and love, Hayes first picked up a guitar when he was eight years old and started putting songwriting and guitar together. He prayed for God to help him learn guitar and checked out the “Guitar for Dummies" book at the local library for extra support. Hayes led worship in his church until he graduated high school and enrolled in the US Navy Reserve. He went to bootcamp and then the University of Alabama in the fall of 2018 where he wrote the first song that he says was “worth listening to twice.”

REPENTANCE to support ORBIT CULTURE; Release new lyric video for "Light It Up"!

Chicago, Illinois-based metallers REPENTANCE will provide direct support for the Swedish metal act ORBIT CULTURE on August 19 at Majestic Theater in Detroit, Michigan and August 20 at the Bottom Lounge in Chicago, Illinois. In order to celebrate and prepare their fans for the upcoming dates, today the band released a brand new lyric video for their album track "Light It Up". Video done by Andrea Mantelli.

Progressive metalcore pioneers Born Of Osiris have released their latest offering "In Desolation" and the accompanying official video (via Sumerian Records). Leading up to today's release, the band has dropped "Torchbearer", "A Mind Short Circuiting" and their most recent banger, "Elevate". Altogether, the tracks have clocked up 2.6 million streams on Spotify and 664k views on YouTube. When asked about the inspiration behind "In Desolation", the band shared:

Prime Video Unveils Key Art and Trailer for Highly Anticipated Canadian Original Docuseries The Tragically Hip: No Dress Rehearsal

Prime Video today released the official key art and trailer for the upcoming four-part docuseries The Tragically Hip: No Dress Rehearsal, an intimate and unvarnished look at the extraordinary 40-year journey of Canada's most beloved rock band. Directed by Mike Downie, the four-part series chronicles the triumphs, trials and deep bonds of brotherhood that defined The Tragically Hip's rise from basement shows to arena rock legends. The docuseries will have its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) before screening at film festivals nationwide. The Prime Video launch date will be shared at a later date.

The Tragically Hip: No Dress Rehearsal is a love story between a band and the country they call home. 'Life Is A Carnival: Last Waltz Tour '24' Announces All-Star Lineup

Blackbird Presents is thrilled to announce Life is a Carnival: Last Waltz Tour ‘24. This epic tour continues the tradition of capturing the excitement of The Band’s historic 1976 Thanksgiving concert at the famed Winterland Ballroom in San Francisco, hailed as the greatest live concert event of all time. This tour also celebrates the legacy of the Band’s co-founder Robbie Robertson, and immediately follows the one-night-only concert celebration of Robbie at Kia Forum in Los Angeles, California on October 17, 2024, entitled “Life Is a Carnival: A Musical Celebration of Robbie Robertson”.
