This epic tour continues the tradition of capturing the excitement of The Band’s historic 1976 Thanksgiving concert at the famed Winterland Ballroom in San Francisco, hailed as the greatest concert of all time.

The multi-city tour kicks off with two nights at the Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, New York, on November 3 and continues throughout the month, making stops at historic venues on the east coast. Tickets go on sale September 16, 2022, at 10 AM ET at thelastwaltztour.live. Tour dates and venues are listed below.

Over forty-five years ago, The Band performed their final concert to a sold-out crowd with a who’s-who of music royalty in attendance. The evening culminated with “Don’t Do It,” The Band’s cover of Marvin Gaye’s “Baby Don’t You Do It.” After the last note, Robbie Robertson, The Bands’ lead guitarist, songwriter, and a founding member said "Goodnight. Goodbye." walking off stage, forever immortalizing this epic event.

“It is such an honor that the musical celebration of The Last Waltz and The Band carries on today. Blackbird Presents and this extraordinary lineup of musicians makes me proud to be a part of this ongoing and wonderful tradition.” says Robbie Robertson.

“We are counting down the days till we get to see this lineup, performing these songs, in the greatest music celebration of our lives,” says Keith Wortman, Creator and Producer of The Last Waltz Tour franchise. “Seeing the audiences sing along to every word at every show as one family is what all of us music fans live for.”

Ian Munsick Announces "Westwood" Fall Tour Feat. Ryan Charles

This year saw Ian Munsick spread his Rocky Mountain sound across the nation as he hit the road alongside superstars Cody Johnson and Morgan Wallen. Now it’s his turn: Munsick will wrap 2022 with his own headlining Westwood tour. Visit HERE for ticketing and more information. Joining him on the run, which will hit major cities including Charlotte, Chicago, Denver and Tampa, is fellow Wyoming native Ryan Charles.

“We’ve hit the road HARD the last two years and it’s all been leading up to this," reflects Munsick. "We’ve played venues of all shapes and sizes from clubs to arenas. Sharing the stage with my heroes has taught me so much about performing, but now it’s time to take those lessons to my fans. It doesn’t matter if we’re playing on the east coast, or in mountain time… you don’t wanna miss these two Wyoming cowpokes punchin’ their way across the country on the Westwood Fall Tour.”

Munsick continues to showcase his western-influenced brand of country music in his latest releases. He released “Long Live Cowgirls” (with Cody Johnson) at the top of the year, and it has since earned more than 45 million streams (LISTEN HERE). It topped SiriusXM The Highway’s Hot 30 Countdown and has been praised for its “gorgeous, wide-open fiddle… [that] will make you feel like you’re riding a horse through the plains of Texas or… the Rocky Mountains of Colorado” (Whiskey Riff).

The breakout singer / songwriter most recently released faith-driven story song “More Than Me” (LISTEN HERE) from his forthcoming sophomore album. As CMT described, “His signature Rocky Mountain sound intertwined with the romantic lyrics makes the heartfelt ballad a perfect wedding hymn.” Both “Long Live Cowgirls” and “More Than Me” hail from Munsick’s forthcoming sophomore album, with more new music due soon.

ABOUT IAN MUNSICK
Breathing fresh Rocky Mountain air into the Nashville music scene, Ian Munsick is pioneering a new brand of country. The Wyoming-born singer / songwriter’s upbringing was a mix of working the ranch and working crowds. Under the tutelage of their fiddle-playing father, Munsick and his two older brothers grew up playing everything from bluegrass to The Beatles. Captivated by traditional lyrical truth and the modern soundscape, Munsick followed his ear to Music City. After establishing a robust touring career as an independent artist, he signed a major label record deal with Warner Music Nashville in 2020. Since then, he has accumulated nearly 250 million global streams as well as accolades from Spotify (“Hot Country Artist to Watch”), MusicRow magazine (“Next Big Thing”) and more. His debut album Coyote Cry features his mile-high tenor underscoring self-penned songs that conjure “equal parts epic adventure and down-to-earth wisdom” (American Songwriter). It marks the dawn of western pop-laced country, pulling a thread straight from Chris LeDoux through Post Malone. Imagery-soaked ode to the west “Long Haul” earned Munsick his second iHeartRadio Rocky Mountain Country Music Award for Song of the Year. The recent releases of “Long Live Cowgirls” (with Cody Johnson) and “More Than Me” are ushering in the next chapter of his musical saga… and fans are finding that, with Ian Munsick, western country is reborn.

ABOUT RYAN CHARLES
Western rapper Ryan Charles hails from the valley of Buffalo, Wyo. Similar to his hometown, once referred to as the most lawless town in America, Charles brings a style all his own — meshing the cowboy lifestyle with the flow of 2000’s rap. A natural-born entertainer, Charles quickly became one of the most skilled freestyle rappers on the school bus, eventually making the move to Seattle, Wash. to pursue his music career more seriously. As an artist, Charles has released singles including the jiggy buckaroo bop “Gettin’ Western” in 2020, “Old Dirt Fancy” in 2021 and a feature on Ian Munsick’s “Cowboy Killer” in 2022. Charles quickly became a stand out contestant representing his home state on NBC’s “American Song Contest” where he competed with his original track “New Boot Goofin.’” Known for his signature fashion sense, light-hearted twang and high-energy live shows, Charles continues to work on new music with River House Artists in Nashville, Tenn.

RAYGUN ROMANCE Reveals Official Music Video for "Make it Last"!

Electronic Rock/Synth Pop project RAYGUN ROMANCE (former POWERMAN 5000 Guitarist TY OLIVER) has unveiled the official music video for his luscious, decadent new single, "Make it Last." Shot and directed by MARIE ILENE, with b-roll and editing by the enigmatic front-man himself, "Make it Last" features burlesque performer and pin-up star Miss Spent Youth.

"'Make it Last' is inspired by a friend struggling with Drug addiction, and despite his best efforts to get the monkey off his back, succumbing to the devil on his shoulder time and time again. It's written from the perspective of someone losing grip and falling deeper down the rabbit hole."

Raygun Romance is an Electronic Rock/Synth Pop Project created by Ty Oliver (Former Powerman 5000 Guitarist) in 2019. Originally, it was a studio project and a collaboration between Ty, Vocalist Natalie Nebula, and Producer David Gnozzi. The initial run of Singles released featured guest vocalists like Daniel Graves (Aesthetic Perfection) Ryan Shuck (Orgy, Dead By Sunrise, Julien - K), Sammi Doll (IAMX, Kat Von D) and Mad Gallica (Ghost).

Starting with the 2021 Single and Video "Naked" (Goo Goo Dolls cover) Ty became the Face, Producer and Voice of Raygun Romance.

CHRIS CONNELLY to release new album dedicated to NICO. Preview first 'Eulogy to Lenny Bruce'

"Connelly, with his beautiful timbre and artistic candour, delivers a haunting and touching rendition of Nico’s music. Nobody performs quite like this masterful musical chameleon and here, he channels her fabulously, honouring her with depth and personability... impeccable delivery and smoothness" ~ The Spill Magazine

Chris Connelly photos by Shayna Connelly. Nico photos as specified

Alternative music legend Chris Connelly has announced he will be releasing a long-player paying tribute to the iconic Nico. Originally planned as 10 tracks featuring Connelly’s versions of her songs, once recorded, he decided to write a parallel album of his own compositions, spanning the life of one of the most unique, tragic and misunderstood female artists in the history of music. The result is the 24-track 'Eulogy to Christa: A Tribute to the Music & Mystique of Nico', to be released in late autumn.

Ahead of this, the Chicago-based Scottish counter-culture artist presents the album's first single 'Eulogy to Lenny Bruce', heralded by some as Connelly's finest vocal performance. Appearing on Nico's 1967 album 'Chelsea Girl', this song was penned by the tragic Tim Hardin about the equally tragic Lenny Bruce with the lyrics slightly altered, Nico describing her sorrow and anger at Bruce's death.

Connelly once again worked with producer and long-time Connelly collaborator Chris Bruce, a band member of Meshell Ndegeocello, who has also worked with Seal, Aaron Neville, Bob Dylan, The Waterboys, My Brightest Diamond, Cheryl Crow and Sam Phillips.

'Eulogy to Christa' sees Connelly purposefully adopting the personas of Nico, Lou Reed and John Cale – even Andy Warhol makes a cameo!

Connelly speaks of these early influences: “I was not a stranger to her music, I had been playing The Velvet Underground & Nico to death for about a year, but knew nothing of her solo work until Cosey Fanni Tutti played me 'Desertshore' whilst I was visiting her in London in the summer of 1980... Nico’s output was spartan, at that age, I didn’t know why, but I was drawn in deep to the myth, as well as the myth of Lou Reed, The Velvet Underground and the concentric rings of influence in their wake, like so many musicians.”

The album was inspired by the brilliant book 'You Are Beautiful and Your Are Alone' by author Jennifer Otter Bickerdicke, who contributed to the liner notes for the album. She writes, “This is a record to be played at full blast, all the way through, as a commemoration not just to Nico the person, the musician, but to art for art’s sake, for making something because it is important and needs to be done – an idea that is as rare and precious as Nico herself.”

Even the photos of Nico featured in the album artwork have particular significance: the cover shot was taken by author Alastair MacKay from the audience at the Nite Club in Edinburgh in 1981, where a 15-year-old Connelly was also in attendance. The inside photo of Nico was taken in 1982 by Chicago photography legend Howard Goldblatt.

The Nico material spans from her first Jimmy Page-composed single B-side through her time with The Velvet Underground, to her intense and unique solo recordings up until her death. In song, Connelly follows her from Berlin to New York via Paris, Ibiza, and Rome, then back through Paris, London, Edinburgh, Manchester and up to her tragic and needless death in Ibiza.

This is a labour of love, empathy, sadness, acting and channeling, along with Chris’s adoration of the dark corner of rock inhabited by the Velvets and their peers.

Chris Connelly's creations span almost forty years. Since early days with Fini Tribein his native Edinburgh, Connelly has over twenty solo releases. He frequently collaborates with other musicians, building on notable projects with Ministry, The Revolting Cocks and Pigface and contributing to newer ones such as Cocksureand The Joy Thieves. He has also published four books, encompassing poetry, autobiography, and fictional narrative.

As of September 12, 'Eulogy to Lenny Bruce' will be available across digital music platforms, including . The full 'Eulogy to Christa' album' will be released digitally on November 11 by Shipwrecked Industries in the USA andcan already be pre-ordered via Bandcamp.. The physical release will happen on December 4 via the same label and also Easy Action in the UK.

To celebrate the release of 'Eulogy to Christa', Connelly will perform tracks from the album with the help of Matt Walker, Carolyn Engelmann and other members of Sons of the Silent Age. Scheduled for Thursday, November 10 at Gman Tavern in Chicago, tickets can be obtained at http://bit.ly/ChrisConnelly_1110.

Tyler Bryant & The Shakedown to Release New Album "Shake the Roots"

Tyler Bryant & The Shakedown have released their new album, Shake The Roots, which is out today on the band's own Rattle Shake Records! Featuring the lead singles "Ain't None Watered Down" and "Ghostrider", the band's latest studio effort sees them tapping into years of creative passion, shared wisdom, and old fashion grit and perspiration to deliver their most earnest work to date.

"With 'Shake The Roots', we wanted to be in the moment, honest, and try our best not to overthink anything. The whole concept of this record was to get back to our roots as a band and as individual musicians. We each got into music to have fun writing, recording and performing. With this record, we got to do just that.

Bryant adds“To me, this album sounds like where we came from, where we’ve been, and where we’re going. So much of the album has a bluesy tinge to it, then 'Ghostrider' hits and the purists spit their coffee out and throw their chairs through windows."

For Bryant & The Shakedown, returning to their independent roots has been all about getting the best music out with as little obstruction as possible, and letting fans know that they are the driving force that motivates and gives life to everything they do.

"We wanted to start Rattle Shake Records to take more ownership of our art and share a sense of ownership with our supporters. We want our fans to know that when they buy, stream, or share our music, THEY are what is fueling the Shakedown."

To celebrate the release of 'Shake The Roots', Tyler Bryant & The Shakedown are playing an album release show tomorrow night (September 10) at Basement East in Nashville! For fans who can't attend in person, the show will also be streamed live and on-demand via Mandolin right here.

About Tyler Bryant & The Shakedown

Long before playing hundreds upon hundreds of shows and sharing the stage with countless venerable icons of their craft, the members of Tyler Bryant & The Shakedown were just wide-eyed, attentively mesmerized kids listening to records; knowing early on that music would guide their journeys through life. Perhaps it’s for that very reason that the last few years have urged them to ask a question that has become so ubiquitous in our culture, both in America and abroad: “What am I meant to do with my skills? How can I best serve myself and the people I care for? How do I keep the enthusiasm of a kid hearing rock and roll for the first time alive?”

As the Shakedown embarks on relatively uncharted waters at this stage in their career, Bryant feels fortunate to have such a wide-ranging and evolving education. These days, the lessons have come courtesy of the frontman’s studio in Nashville, TN. Tyler & Caleb recently contributed to the new Larkin Poe record, “Blood Harmony.”

Bryant, “I got to do some engineering and co-produce a new record for Larkin Poe! Over the last few years, I really started focusing a lot of my energy on producing records. Caleb, Graham, and I all spent so much time in the studio. Our writing got better and my skills as an engineer/producer have certainly developed in a positive way."

For a band that’s stood on too many decorated stages to count and seen first-hand how the greats always seize the opportunity to push beyond their comfort zone, we shouldn’t be surprised by their new endeavor. It’s just the latest in a long list of lessons learned. If there is one thing we know for certain, the roots run deep with Tyler Bryant & the Shakedown.

Dauzat St. Marie’s new single “Nothing Left To Lose"

Dauzat St. Marie enlist Korn drummer Ray Luzier, bass player Eliot Lorango (Corey Taylor/Billy Howerdel/Dorothy), and guitarist Nick Annis (Kesha/Black Light Burns/Dorothy) for their latest effort “Nothing Left To Lose.”

“My great friend Sébastien Paquet (Korn’s videographer) turned me on to this amazing duo a few years ago named Dauzat St. Marie while he was doing one of their music videos. I was completely blown away by how beautiful & emotional their voices sounded & how well-written the song was! I became an instant fan & wanted to hear more tunes. So when Dauzat St. Marie approached me about playing on one of their new songs, I of course said ‘YES’ & ‘WHEN’?!" says Ray Luzier (Korn).

He adds, "It was a pleasure to work with Mat & Heather, they’re a ball of light & positive energy & that shines through clearly their music! I tracked ‘Nothing Left To Lose’ at my studio in Nashville TN. I really wanted to get inside the music & give it all the emotion & soul that I could. We need much more of Dauzat St. Marie’s music out there & I have a good feeling you’ll be hearing them on radios & devices everywhere soon!”

The duo are on tour this fall (dates below)!

The name Dauzat St. Marie (pronouced “dō-zaht saynt mah-ree”) has been circulating quite far and wide these past several years through heavyweight touring with some heavyweight artists. Known for their lockstep vocal harmonies and catchy, yet thought-provoking songwriting, singer/songwriter troubadours Mat Dauzat and Heather St. Marie have kept the name Dauzat St. Marie popping up all over the U.S. by touring as main support for Grammy® Award winning heartthrob Rick Springfield’s “Stripped Down” solo acoustic show series for the past five years and peppered in dates with The Marshall Tucker Band, Lindsay Ell, Schuyler Fisk / Sissy Spacek, and Rick Derringer. Most recently, Dauzat St. Marie toured the U.S. as support for legendary music icons Pat Benatar & Neil Giraldo.

2020 was shaping up to be a monumental year for Dauzat St. Marie. They kicked it off with a performance at Los Angeles’s iconic Dodger Stadium for the Komen “More Than Pink” Walk. Then the duo began preparing for their biggest tour to date – the support slot on the summer arena tour with Rick Springfield and one of the world’s best-selling groups of all time – CHICAGO. Sadly, the tour was terminated less than two months before it even began due to Covid-19. Though being handed a tough blow, Dauzat St. Marie didn’t skip a beat – the duo used the forced downtime to begin releasing new music and videos as soon as the world went into lockdown. Their first single released during lockdown titled “Common Ground” landed on the world-famous music compilation series “Now That’s What I Call Music” volume 75, gaining Dauzat St. Marie a large new audience worldwide with the compilation series’ cult-like followers.

In less than nine months into the lockdown, Dauzat St. Marie gained over 1.6 million YouTube channel views, with their music video for “Common Ground” logging over a million views alone. Their music video for “In It Together” was used by The American Cancer Society as a vehicle for awareness and fundraising in a national Breast Cancer Awareness Month campaign (Heather is a recent breast cancer survivor), and one of their singles titled “Where Were You?” landed on the 2021 Grammy® Awards ballot in three separate categories – Song Of The Year, Record Of The Year, and Best Pop Duo / Group Performance.

While continuing to roll out singles into 2021, Dauzat St. Marie was invited to record in collaboration with Zac Brown, Jason Mraz, KT Tunstall, Keith Goodwin (Good Old War), and other Taylor Guitars sponsored artists on the song “I Know What Love Is,” with all funds raised going to MusicCares to assist musicians struggling during the pandemic. The song has been streamed over 2.5 million times and raised over $12,000 for MusicCares.

Behind the Music of Monarch: “The Brambles”
HERE

“MONARCH” Premieres with a Two-Night Event Beginning Immediately
Following “FOX NFL” Doubleheader on Sunday, Sept. 11;
Night Two Airs Tuesday, Sept. 20, in Regular Time Period

Arista Records/Monument Records, the official music partner of FOX Entertainment’s highly anticipated new series, MONARCH – a new country music drama about America’s leading family of country music – has released the show’s first EP that includes tracks from this Sunday’s premiere. The EP includes original track“The Brambles,” performed by the MONARCH Cast, featuring multi-Platinum country music star and three-time Academy of Country Music (ACM) Award winner Trace Adkins (“Old Henry”) and Golden Globe nominee Anna Friel (“Pushing Daisies”), as well as covers of country classics including “Family Tradition,” performed by MONARCH cast members Friel, Beth Ditto, Inigo Pascual, Joshua Sasse; “Good Hearted Woman,” performed by Adkins; and “How Do I Live,” performed by Friel and Ditto.

The songs were produced by three-time GRAMMY Award nominee and series executive music producer Adam Anders and co-produced by Peer Åström. The EP’s original track, “The Brambles” was written by Adam Anders, Tom Douglas and Jordan Shellhart. Listen to the EP HERE.

The new music follows the release of a number of tracks from the show, including “American Cowgirl,” performed by Friel, a cover of “A Country Boy Can Survive” by Adkins, as well as the show’s theme song, “The Card You Gamble,” performed by powerhouse vocalist Caitlyn Smith. The series will feature many original songs and covers performed by cast members and upcoming guest stars.

MONARCH debuts with a special two-night event, beginning Sunday, Sept. 11, immediately following the FOX NFL doubleheader (8:00-9:00 PM ET, and simultaneously to all time zones). It then makes its time period premiere Tuesday, Sept. 20 (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT), following the Season Six debut of THE RESIDENT (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT).

In MONARCH, the Roman family is headed by the insanely talented, but tough-as-nails Queen of Country Music DOTTIE CANTRELL ROMAN (Academy Award winner Susan Sarandon, “Feud,” “Thelma & Louise”) and her beloved husband, “Texas Truthteller” ALBIE ROMAN (Adkins). Dottie and Albie have created a country music dynasty. But even though the Roman name is synonymous with authenticity, the very foundation of their success is a lie. And when their reign as country royalty is put in jeopardy, heir to the crown NICOLETTE "NICKY" ROMAN (Friel) will stop at nothing to protect her family's legacy, while ensuring her own quest for stardom.

Middle child LUKE ROMAN (Joshua Sasse, “Galavant”) is the CEO of the family's business, Monarch Entertainment. Luke is the apple of his mother's eye, but he has a troubled relationship with his father, whose approval he can never get, no matter how hard he tries. Youngest daughter GIGI TUCKER-ROMAN (singer/songwriter Beth Ditto, “On Becoming a God in Central Florida”) is very close to her older brother and sister, but in a family of superstars, Gigi has always felt like a bit of an outcast, in spite of her incredible singing voice. Gigi is married to KAYLA ROMAN-TUCKER (Meagan Holder, “Dave,” “Pitch”), a successful music manager who keeps turning down Luke’s offers to join forces with the family company. Outside business, Kayla’s relationships with the Romans reflect a complicated history, and a secret she is keeping could destroy her marriage to Gigi. ACE GRAYSON (Hollywood newcomer and Filipino recording artist Inigo Pascual) also is part of the family. He is a talented and sensitive 18-year-old who was adopted from an orphanage by Nicky and her husband, struggling British actor CLIVE GRAYSON (guest star Adam Croasdell, “Preacher,” “Reign”). Ace is a phenomenal singer with real swagger on stage, and dreams of being a country star like his Grandpa Albie. And just when the Romans’ world couldn’t get more chaotic, enter CATT PHOENIX (Martha Higareda, “Into The Dark: Culture Shock”), the stunning and unpredictable mother of 17-year-old ANA PHOENIX (Emma Milani, “Solve”), a talented, wide-eyed young singer who is trying to get signed to the Roman family’s record label.

MONARCH is 100% owned and produced by FOX Entertainment. Screenwriter Melissa London Hilfers serves as creator, writer and executive producer. Jon Harmon Feldman (“Designated Survivor”) serves as executive producer and showrunner. Gail Berman and Hend Baghdady (The Jackal Group), Michael Rauch (“Instinct,” “Royal Pains”) and top music manager Jason Owen (Sandbox Entertainment) also serve as executive producers. Jason Ensler (“The Passage”) directed the series premiere, on which he also served as an executive producer. The series will feature original music and covers.

CYNIC Unveils Guitar Play-Through for "Aurora," Announces Signature Strandberg Guitar

CYNIC guitarist Paul Masvidal is now unveiling a brand new play-through for the song "Aurora," which is taken from the band's critically acclaimed 2021 full-length, 'Ascension Codes.' The clip can be found below.

The play-through is being released in conjunction with the launch of Masvidal's new signature Strandberg guitar, the Masvidalien NX 6 Cosmo!

One of the most unique iterations of the heralded Boden lineup, the original Boden Masvidalien Cosmo Edition quickly became a favorite amongst not only Cynic and Paul Masvidal fans, but guitar players who sought something different which stood out from the crowd – both aesthetically and sonically. The Masvidalien NX 6 Cosmo retains all of the great features of the Masvidalien Cosmo while adding the new NX features to provide the latest in .strandberg* innovations.

The Masvidalien NX 6 Cosmo features chambered Swamp Ash body with a Maple top for a superbly balanced and punchy sound and an open pore Poplar Burl veneer top for a dramatic and unique finish, quartersawn Maple neck with Richlite fretboard accented with his trademark Masvidalien inlay across the fretboard. The new .strandberg* EGS Rev 7 hardware, new neck-heel and arm bevel carves, and Venture Gig Bag round out the updates which increase the instrument’s functionality, playing comfort, and overall value.

More information on the model can be found HERE.

In addition, CYNIC will be digitally releasing a fully instrumental version of 'Ascension Codes' via Bandcamp! Cynic is offering an instrumental mix of the track 'Aurora' as a free download when pre-ordering the album via the Cynic-alliance Bandcamp page. The album will be streaming on all digital outlets October 7, 2022! Pre-order it now at THIS LOCATION.

Moreover, guitar players can find the full guitar transcriptions for several of CYNIC's albums via Sheet Happens at THIS LOCATION.

CYNIC's latest release Ascension Codes is a remarkably far-reaching work, and if nothing else, a clear indication that they have landed in a place of mastery. The album, paradoxically, acts as both swan song and rebirth.

'Ascension Codes' can be ordered at the Season of Mist E-Shop, the CYNIC Bandcamp, and official CYNIC shop. The album can be streamed/downloaded HERE.

Cynic’s continual state of development has met its share of challenges over the years, hurdles that threatened to dismantle the entity’s forward surge. Yet through hurricanes, breakups, and assorted acrimony both personal and existential, it remains inspired to create.

Their name is synonymous with what it means to be truly progressive in music. Cynic’s top-tier performance acumen and cerebral/spiritual/yogic themes finds them inhabiting a corner of the musical spectrum all their own. Their Venn diagram shows intersections with death metal, prog rock, thrash metal, experimental, new age, jazz fusion, and a myriad of other sonic expressions.

Debut album, Focus (1993), is a certified classic. Although that era ended with transformation into the short-lived Portal, and then a further splinter toward Aeon Spoke, Cynic’s reunion-era has found them embraced in a way that proves how ahead of the times they were in the ‘90s. Through monuments such as the Traced in Air (2008) and Kindly Bent to Free Us (2014) albums, the Carbon-Based Anatomy and Re-Traced EPs, and a surprising rebirth with the “Humanoid” single of 2018, the Cynic legacy remains untarnished. Yet early in the creation cycle for their fourth full-length album, they experienced horrible events that tested the entity’s resolve.

Ascension

The year 2020 will go down in history as a tremendously difficult time for the global human population. For the Cynic family, the struggle was not restricted to a pandemic. It was two utterly senseless losses that threw the band’s immediate concerns into the background: the premature deaths of drummer Sean Reinert in January, at age 48, and bassist Sean Malone in December, at age 50, were shocking and unthinkable.

Reinert, a founding Cynic member since formation in 1988, was highly influential to a multitude of young drummers. His work on 1993’s Focus and Death’s watershed 1991 album, Human, found him sculpting extreme technical metal with a jazz fusion-inspired approach. Now taken for granted, that approach to the instrument and the genre was undoubtedly pioneered in large part by Reinert. Though parting with Cynic in 2015, his imprint on Cynic is inescapable.

The death of Sean Malone dealt another horrible layer of tragedy to Cynic’s 2020. In his many years with the band, Malone’s virtuoso playing meshed intuitively with Reinert’s. Together they formed a nucleus of kinetic, highly capable rhythmic dexterity that fueled Cynic’s celestial aims.

One of these deaths would have seemed unimaginable by itself. Both of them, in the same year, nearly broke surviving member Paul Masvidal. But the seeds of a fourth Cynic full- length existed long before the deaths, and the guitarist, through a haze of grief and disbelief, pushed forward. “I wanted to make this record right after Kindly Bent to Free Us,” says Masvidal. “I was raring to go, hyper-creative, in this total flow state. And then it all imploded.”

Parts of songs were in the gestation process as early as 2014. Masvidal says that Reinert and Malone heard elements of what ended up on the fourth album. Slowly, methodically, and with much careful deliberation, Masvidal eventually completed an album titled Ascension Codes, to honor the memory of his fallen band mates. And while the album honors the lives and contributions of Reinert and Malone, it also pushes Cynic forward for its own sake and through its own will to live. The album, paradoxically, acts as both swan song and rebirth. It is, throughout its 49 minutes, a vivid and highly cosmic journey into the very core of every impulse this band has ever explored.

Offering

As of 2021, the future of Cynic is unclear. Does Ascension Codes mark their final phase of growth? Surely the music finds them laying out a most ambitious trail of spiritual sonic travel, but to call any Cynic album “ambitious” is redundant. They are, by their very nature, an ambitious band. Yet Ascension Codes is a remarkably far-reaching work. Its nine main songs are infused with explosions of color and energy, and throughout these compositions are embedded the “codes”: “Mu-54*,” “A’-va432,” “Ha-144” and so on.

Though clearly an album best listened to in its entirety without distraction, for full impact, there are definitive Cynic songs here that stand strong on their own. “Mythical Serpents” is imbued with propellant adventure, exciting peaks and valleys that tug at the heart while its mathematical sequences challenge the head in a dizzying push/pull dynamic. It’s that quintessential Cynic approach of kaleidoscopic intensity and mannered discipline.

“Diamond Light Body” brings the album to a crashing close – heavy and celestial, with some melodic sequences that feel like new territory for Cynic. An incredibly dense song with inhuman patterns from Lynch, the song’s beautiful urgency and final moments push the album outward into the heavens: “I won't feed the fear / I’ll choose a different timeline / Ascend / All is flux, nothing stands still / Ascend.”

The expanded Cynic collective maintains focus on Masvidal’s vision, each human element adding to the compelling overall result. Truly, if this is to be the final artistic stroke by Cynic, then they have landed in a place of mastery. The stories told by Focus, Traced in Air, and Kindly Bent to Free Us are now completed with Ascension Codes.

Ascension Codes is perhaps the most ethereal sounding Cynic album to date, but also skews heavier than previous album Kindly Bent to Free Us. The expanded lineup is surely responsible for the album’s far-reaching scope.

After Sean Reinert’s exit from Cynic in 2015, Masvidal and Malone recruited drummer Matt Lynch. Found through a tip from Between the Buried and Me’s Dan Briggs, Lynch proved to be a perfect addition to the band. As Masvidal notes, Lynch’s “hybrid modern style is like a fusion of drum and bass electronic music influences combined with modern jazz/prog approaches. Lynch is a true original in that he's a fully realized drummer constructing his parts as carefully as any other compositional element always is on a Cynic record. Every single accent and note coming from him is birthed from a precise and inspired place.” We hear this throughout Ascension Codes, pushing the music along with finesse, adding shape and texture in ways only the most sensitive drummers can do.

But how to replace Sean Malone on bass? Masvidal’s answer: don’t even try. The lines of bass notes heard throughout Ascension Codes are performed on bass synthesizer by keyboardist Dave Mackay. A British pianist, writer, producer and Moog/vintage synth enthusiast, Mackay has toured with everyone from Art Garfunkel to Plini (the latter providing the initial introduction between Mackay and Masvidal). Based in Los Angeles and London, Mackay’s work is sensitive to Malone’s touch, while also adding a throbbing intensity that offers Cynic new low-end possibilities. “He's got a vast jazz harmonic vocabulary,” notes Masvidal, “which is what's needed in the context of Cynic's music, especially for bass lines. I knew that I could never replace Malone. Anyone I would find would be expected to play like him, and that's not fair to another musician. And things were too fresh for me with the loss of Malone, so I had to go somewhere new. With Mackay, I heard his groovy left-hand approach, and how musical he was across the board having played with a variety of musicians and styles. I realized he would bring something fresh to the table, and he provided a space for me to start again with a completely different instrument and forgo any traditional ideas I had about what Cynic bass lines should sound like.

Ultimately Mackay delivered above and beyond, with a real awareness of a bass player's role in a progressive trio context. First, by holding down the harmony and being “in the pocket,” while also creating an independent and dynamic voice within that space. Mackay has a rare combination of skills and the vibe he locked into with Lynch with sounds like a rhythm section from the future. Plus, his Moog synth tone offers a low-end depth that’s never been heard in our recordings.” On December 5, 2019, Dave Mackay shared the stage with Paul Masvidal for a performance of the guitarist’s solo material. On bass that evening was Sean Malone. After the gig, Malone told Masvidal, “We should bring Mackay in for the new record.”

Michael Berberian, president and founder of Season of Mist Records remained close to Masvidal throughout the 2020 losses of his bandmates. Michael states “I have, by now, released close to one thousand albums. None have been more dramatic, none have even been more difficult than this one. I can’t listen to Ascension Codes without goosebumps, a mixed feeling of pride – because it’s a musical milestone, but it also contains a lingering layer of sadness. I hear Paul’s pain on this record. I can feel it, I can touch it. But it’s transcended. ‘Art is to console those who are broken by life,’ said Van Gogh. Here is a demonstration of that.”

Ascension Codes was mixed and co-produced by Warren Riker, who worked with Aeon Spoke, Cynic in the Traced in Air era, and mixed Paul Masvidal’s solo acoustic trilogy. “Riker’s a wizard who gets inside the music and commits. He expands boundaries as a mixer, always finding new ways to push the sonic envelope,” says Masvidal.

Keeping things in the family, Martina Hoffmann’s original painting entitled ‘The Landing’ graces Cynic's new album Ascension Codes with breathtaking scope and presence. The visionary work inspired by Martina's time walking the beaches of Brittany, France after the death of her longtime partner, the artist Robert Venosa (whose artwork adorns all Cynic releases between 1993 and 2018) followed by the loss of her mother, the subject of the piece features the arrival of a great mothership made of light and flesh, not machine but an organic entity that has brought hope and infinite possibilities. Masvidal says of Hoffmann, “Martina’s art has always held a special place in my heart, and I'm deeply grateful for her love and support. When I first contacted Venosa as a teenager, it was Martina who encouraged him to lend his work to the band, because she heard something in our music. She is like the divine mother in this Cynic/ Venosa lineage," Masvidal says. "Her spirit and multidimensional talents are truly a gift to this world. I feel that she is one of the great artistic voices of our age."

The struggle to attain ascension is as important as ascension itself. And after much searching, Cynic have again achieved oneness with the numinous. At a time of possible exit for the entity, Ascension Codes is Cynic reaching a previously-unknown state of enlightenment.

Credits and Lineup:

With Masvidal, Lynch and Mackay at the core, Cynic utilized a variety of other artists to help achieve their vision for Ascension Codes, some of the key players include:

DARK (Roopam Garg) performs as “code worker” on the album, providing harmonic, harp-like guitar textures. DARK also known for his other works with “The Surrealist” is an experimental, ambient artist, pushing the avant-garde guitar envelope using extended techniques and consciousness inspired soundscapes.

Max Phelps contributes “holographic-reptilian-voices” on multiple tracks. Phelps toured with Cynic in the Carbon-Based Anatomy and Kindly Bent to Free Useras, and his own progressive metal band, Exist, have released music on Prosthetic Records. Phelps also took part in Death tribute band, Death to All.

Plini guest solos on “The Winged Ones.” Plini is an an Australian guitarist and composer, producing heart-fueled, progressive instrumental rock. He opened shows for Cynic in Japan, which happened to be their final live performances as a trio with Reinert/Malone.

Additional contributors:

Anrita Melchizedek is a renowned priestess, healer, galactic ambassador, among other pursuits, and provides vocals to the opening and closing code interludes (“Mu-54*” and “Ec-ka72”). Amy Correia and Joshua Leon vocalize light language and phrases on various code interludes. Amy appeared on Traced in Air and 2011’s Carbon-Based Anatomy EP,and plays with Masvidal in the Onward with Love (OwL) project. Michael Devin plays crystal bowls on some of the code interludes. Devin is also a bassist and has played with the Jason Bonham Led Zeppelin Evening, George Lynch, and Whitesnake. Ezekiel Kaplan contributed a vocal harmony to the final track “Diamond Light Body.”

Randy Houser Releases "Rub A Little Dirt On It" from Highly Anticipated Album 'Note To Self'

With his sixth studio album Note To Self set for Nov. 11 via Magnolia Music Group, the Billboard lauded “golden-voiced Mississippi native” Randy Houser releases “Rub A Little Dirt On It.” Listen to the song HERE and pre-order/pre-save Note To Self HERE.

Written by Houser with Jeff Hyde and Ryann Tyndell, “Rub A Little Dirt On It” acts as a reminder that difficult times are only temporary, sometimes alleviated by turning to places of beauty and tranquility:

Nothing knocks the cobwebs off your soul
Like some spiderwire on a fishing pole
It’ll take your breath, taking in a sunset
From a flat bottom boat
That heavy load laying on your chest
Got your mind all twisted up in a mess
When life scatters all your stuff
Sometimes to clean it up

You gotta rub a little dirt on it
Shake the dust right outta your mind
Let a cool breeze work on it
Ya feel the healing comin’ right on time
Crack a six pack open
Somewhere under an open sky
When life gets a little hurt on it
Get in the middle of nowhere
And rub a little dirt on it

Today’s release follows “Workin’ Man,” illuminating the tenacity and persistence of America’s blue-collar workers among the struggles they face day-to-day to support themselves and their families, with Billboard praising, “Houser yields his enviable vocals with a rough-hewn delivery that lends grit to this radio-friendly track,” while MusicRowcalls it a “rousing blue-collar anthem” that Houser sings with “a barn-burner baritone that dips and growls in all the right places.”

Album opener “Still That Cowboy” was written by Houser, Matt Rogers and Josh Hoge as an ode to his wife Tatiana as the couple prepares for their second child together, with CMT.com sharing, “Houser has never been afraid to sing country music, and ‘Still That Cowboy’ spotlights the genre’s tenets as much as anything Houser has ever released. His baritone rings against the backdrop of the pedal steel guitar as he delivers the song written for his wife.”

Currently climbing the charts at Country radio, “Note To Self,” Houser’s first taste of new music since 2019’s critically-acclaimed Magnolia, marked his “powerful return” with MusicRow boasting the Mississippi-native “remains one of country music’s very finest vocalists. His return is most welcome, especially with such a strong song of regretful hindsight. His extraordinary voice is absolutely fierce as this hair-raising pile driver reaches its climax.”

FALLUJAH Reveal Visualizer For "Mindless Omnipotent Master"

Today's the day! Bay Area masters of atmospheric technical death metal FALLUJAH have unleashed their monumental 5th studio album, "Empyrean," today with Nuclear Blast. Receiving rave reviews from critics around the world and legions of fans championing their return, FALLUJAH has emerged with one of their best records to date. On their latest epic journey the band explores new sonic realms while revisiting past influences and styles, captivating listeners along the way with Scott Carstairs' massive riffs and guitar wizardry and new recruit Kyle Schaefer's seething vocals. Strap in and witness a cataclysmic collision of atmospheric death metal.

In addition to the record's release, FALLUJAH has debuted a visualizer for the song "Mindless Omnipotent Master." Watch it here:

Primary songwriter and guitarist Scott Carstairs says of the song:

'Mindless Omnipotent Master' is about the massive, globally-linked systems of technology and society that were created for humankind’s own benefit, but have now grown into self-sustained forces beyond our control. The music sets an appropriately dark tone with four minutes of relentlessly brutal riffs and mechanically sharp precision."

Carstairs adds about the album's release:

"It feels surreal to finally share our new album Empyrean with the world! We can hardly describe the amount of effort, determination and patience it took to arrive at this point, but now that the day is here we can finally say that everything was worth it.

Special shoutouts to the fans who have stuck with us for all these years. We hope Empyrean can take you on an immersive journey with enough detail to warrant many repeated listens."

About FALLUJAH:
Tech-metal outfit Fallujah intensify their metallic dynamism on stunning new album, "Empyrean." Built on an “all killer, no filler” maxim, the Bay Area-based quartet delivered just that on album number five. From video single “Radiant Ascension” and “Embrace Oblivion” to “Soulbreaker” and “Mindless Omnipotent Master,” "Empyrean" is breathtaking in atmospheric expanse and impressive in sophistication. Fallujah’s overhauled lineup has contributed massively to the level-up on display. Primary songwriter/guitarist Scott Carstairs and compeer/drummer Andrew Baird enlisted Archaeologist’s Kyle Schaefer and Evan Brewer (formerly Entheos/The Faceless) as their new vocalist and bassist, respectively.

Since forming in 2007, Fallujah have triumphed over their challenges. Whether it’s self-administering the band, going to school, writing music, or working full-time, they’ve savored release of and diehard fan admiration for five albums in "The Harvest Wombs" (2011), "The Flesh Prevails" (2014), "Dreamless" (2016), "Undying Light" (2019), and their latest "Empyrean." Indeed, diligence and creative enterprise have resulted in high-profile tours with Whitechapel, Suffocation, The Black Dahlia Murder, and more across North America, Europe, and Australia. Fallujah also prospered with critics in Metal Hammer, Allmusic and Metalsucks. The group’s Billboard chart positions on the Top Hard Rock Albums and Heatseekers Albums prove that with every twist and turn, Fallujah’s fans are with them. "Empyrean," with its revivalist spikes, bolstered atmospherics and high-powered production, is the greatest yet.

"Empyrean" is a specialist’s paradise. As a rhythm/lead player, Carstairs enters a league of his own. Tracks like “The Bitter Taste of Clarity,” “Radiant Ascension,” and “Eden’s Lament” illustrate he’s upped his chops and boosted the emotional outlay. Throughout, he’s careful about compositional placement and how his radiant, palliative leads complement Fallujah’s sapid landscape. Drummer Baird tastefully and aggressively holds down the fort, grooving and syncopating admirably on “Radiant Ascension,” “Embrace Oblivion,” and “Mindless Omnipotent Master.” Fallujah’s long-standing timekeeper has always been great, but on "Empyrean," he’s superior. Right there with him is recently joined bassist Evan Brewer, thundering and bopping on, around, and against Baird’s foundation like a seasoned prizefighter. “Duality of Intent” is but one of Brewer’s standouts. Although known for his guitar work outside of Fallujah, newcomer vocalist Kyle Schaefer’s low-end and mid-range bark perfectly matches the existential threat-themed lyrics.

Throughout "Empyrean," Fallujah surprise. Musically, lyrically, and with their bevy of guests, they add hard-to-describe depth and musical import. Vocalist Tori Letzler (Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice) reprises her angelic role on “Radiant Ascension” and “Artifacts,” while Chiasma’s Katie Thompson also reappears to elevate “Embrace Oblivion” and “Into the Eventide.” Chaney Crabb of Entheos and Cyborg Octopus’s David Wu tender their considerable talents on “Mindless Omnipotent Master” and “Duality of Intent,” respectively. Celebrated artist Peter Mohrbacher (Serenity in Murder, Rainbowdragoneyes) replays his role on "Empyrean" as well. Truly, this is an all-star cast appearing on a momentous album by a band reaching beyond.

From the beginning of this writing process and until the end, we painstakingly made sure every aspect of this record would blow away our listeners,” states Carstairs. “We meticulously scrutinized every riff and note choice. There has never been this much effort put into a Fallujah record as we did with 'Empyrean,' and the result is a truly monstrous record that we believe is the band’s best work by a significant margin. We showed you restraint on the last record. Now, let us show you what happens when we leave it all on the table.

Venture into Fallujah’s exosphere on "Empyrean." They’re waiting for you.

Pillbox Patti Releases Latest Track, “Eat Pray Drugs”

Earlier this summer Pillbox Patti introduced her unique perspective, and tell it like it is – the good, the bad and the ugly – attitude to the world with the release of “Good People,” “ Young and Stupid ,” and most recently the autobiographical, “Suwannee.” Today she releases another chapter of her story with “Eat Pray Drugs.” The new track is another taste of her debut album, Florida, set for release via Monument Records on October 14.

Listen to “Eat Pray Drugs” HERE

Pre-Add/Pre-Save Florida HERE (Available October 14)

Pillbox Patti’s style is one Forbes has called “hypnotic” and “poignant” while stating “It's…honesty and authenticity that Hayford wants to share with listeners on her debut project.” Written by Hayford with Aaron Raitiere, Park Chisolm, Benjy Davis, and Connie Harrington, and produced by Chisolm, “Eat Pray Drugs” is brutally honest about the life Pillbox Patti led growing up in Florida with little money, resources, or options for extracurricular activities. It paints a clear image into a reality many live every day.

“I’m from a small town in Florida where there’s not a whole lot goin’ on," says Pillbox Patti. “Mostly casseroles, and Jesus, and getting’ high.…in other words, eat pray drugs. If I would’ve had the extra money to spend on decorative signs or kitchen towels when I lived in the little town I’m from, they would’ve all said eat pray drugs.”

On the track, she sings:

ONLY THREE THINGS TO DO AROUND HERE
AIN’T A HONEY HOLE OR A MOVIE THEATER
COUNTRY IS AS COUNTRY DOES
EAT – PRAY – DRUGS

HOSE CLAMP AND AN 80 MG
BAPTIST CHURCH AND A DAIRY QUEEN
WE JUST DOIN’ WHAT WE LOVE
EAT – PRAY – DRUGS

Pillbox Patti is the evolution of celebrated Nashville songwriter Nicolette Hayford. She has penned hits like “One Night Standards” and “Little Dive Bar in Dahlonega” for Ashely McBryde as well as songs for Lainey Wilson, William Michael Morgan and Chrissy Metz. In 2021 she was named MusicRow’s Breakthrough Songwriter of the Year and nominated for ACM and CMA Song Of The Year Awards.

After years of writing for other artists, Hayford is finally stepping into the spotlight as an artist. The ten-year town put her into a box, so she ventured off with her tribe of writers and what has emerged is Pillbox Patti, allowing Hayford to say anything and everything she wants. The fresh, authentic take on growing up in her Country is crystallized through the lens of a Florida native delivering her youth and adulthood in an honest, spirited, not always pretty, package on her debut album Florida.

Florida is a collection of my truths,” says Pillbox Patti. “it’s who I am and where I come from. It helped me heal. it helped me celebrate how far I’ve come, and I hope it brings some light to anybody out there in the dark corners of a small town, or anybody anywhere that needs to hear ‘I’ve been there too.’”

With Florida out October 14, stay tuned for details at pillboxpatti.com and follow along on social media @pillboxpatti for Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and TikTok.

More About Pillbox Patti in Her Own Words:
I grew up in FL.
Sometimes with my dad.
Sometimes with my sister.
Sometimes with my mom.
Sometimes with my grandma.
Sometimes at a friend’s house.
Sometimes with just a stamp of my dad’s signature.
Sometimes people were on drugs.
Sometimes I was on drugs.
Sometimes people were selling drugs.
Sometimes I was selling drugs.
Sometimes people were getting’ the shit beat out of them.
Couple times I was one of them.
Sometimes the cops came.
Sometimes no one did.
Sometimes you gotta get out of where everyone else is stuck.
Couple times I did.
Sometimes you remember you have a dream.
Sometimes you gotta take the long way.
Sometimes one dream pays for another dream.
Sometimes shit actually works out.
I still do pretty much everything sometimes.

Black Market Karma 'Dead Trajectory' previews new album, teams with Act Cool Records for live session

"Emotive, tender and nostalgic...It's an intriguing and evocative release that effortlessly demonstrates Stan Belton's spectacular composing skills" ~ Clash Magazine

"With musical influences including numerous genres, their psychedelic vision goes well beyond the influential underpinnings of 60s rock, presenting a kaleidoscopic array of sonic threads woven together into the fabulous tapestry" ~ Amplify Music Magazine

UK-based psychedelic rockers Black Market Karma present 'Dead Trajectory', a warm and welcome preview of their new album ‘Aped Flair & Hijacked Ideas', slated for release in late September via London boutique label Flower Power Records.

Hailing from London and now residing on the South coast of England, the band are back with a colourful carousel of jingle jangle and distorted wobble, following up the 2021 long-player 'The Technicolour Liquid Audio Machine', a lo-fi instrumental, nostalgic, beat driven opus concocted during the 2020 lockdown.

Lead track 'Dead Trajectory' is the summer chilled psychrock track we all need, Live footage in the accompanying video was filmed by Jenn Cliff-Wilcock in October 2021 during Black Market Karma's UK tour. For additional feel-good factor, Act Cool Records has released a live session with frontman Stanley Belton, recorded on his birthday.

Their tenth album 'Aped Flair & Hijacked Ideas' is a loaded 11-track offering with a fluid texture of beach-soaked instrumentation. Themes range from observations of the sycophantic circles that leach from the arts, desperately trying to stay spiritually close to a geographically distant love, Japanese folklore and the deep connection between man and beast.

“I like to think of the sound of this record as Aquatica. It's like a psychedelic carousel of syrupy melody and liquid audio. Fat, baggy, saturated bass and drums, shimmering jangly guitars, wobbling fuzz, drunken keyboards and telephonic vocals. Imagine something along the lines of The Velvet Underground and The Troggs making tunes together but underwater, performing on marine life instead of instruments and routing the whole thing through a UFO," says Stanley Belton.

"The album's title is a tongue-in-cheek reference to the idea that nothing is truly original. Influence is an infinite web connecting all art and I think that's a beautiful thing that should be embraced. I often see people getting too hung up on the pursuit of some kind of idea of total originality that doesn't exist. It's all in the blend.”

With broader flavours of psychedelia, fuzzed out tones and thumping grooves, Black Market Karma's thick and colourful sound is shaped by the use of a lot of vintage equipment. Rooted in 60's guitar and pop music, other influences range from folk and blues through to lo-fi electronica, traditional Indian music, shoegaze, hip hop, soul and Motown.

To date, the band has released nine albums, eight of which were released between 2012 and 2016 and entirely written, performed, recorded and produced by multi-instrumentalist Stanley Belton while living in London at the band's own 'Cocoon' studio. On the new album, Stan has broken trend of doing everything himself by co-writing and performing two tracks on the album ('Kong' and 'A Crying Shame') together with his brother Finley Belton.

More recently, Stan has been working on collaborations with Pete Kember (a.k.a. Sonic Boom) of Spacemen 3, Joakim Ahlund of Cesars & Les Big Byrd, Tess Parks and The Underground Youth.

'Dead Trajectory' is out everywhere digitally, including Apple Music and Spotify. The double album 'Aped Flair & Hijacked Ideas' will be released on September 29, featuring 180-gram coloured vinyl with a gatefold sleeve. It can be pre-ordered on vinyl at https://bit.ly/3QNCBjE and is also be available for digital download via Bandcamp.

Montreal post-punk outfit The Ember Glows to release 'Where Spirits Play' EP. Preview 'The Mirror'

“The Ember Glows is just such a time-shifting device powered by the spiraling lead lines reminiscent of the early Cult sound, woven of the same ornate intricacies as Echo and The Bunnymen, as anthemic as The Mission at their most bombastic best" ~ The Big Takeover

"At the intersection between post-punk intensity, the romanticism of new wave and trippiness of psychedelic rock... their sound is more akin to late 20th century northern England" ~ The Spill Magazine

"Moodily brooding to dynamically vibrant songs that are drenched in ruminative baritone vocals, darkly shining guitars, low-register bass lines, and pushing drum beats" ~ The Record Stache

"Boasting a classic guitar-driven New Wave psych sound, the simple hooks, a pulsating rhythm section, textural guitar interplay, and baritone vocals bring to mind Echo & The Bunnymen, The Teardrop Explodes, U2, The Mission, and The Associates" ~ Post-Punk.com

Montreal-based indie rock / post-punk quartet The Ember Glows will soon release their new EP 'Where Spirits Play', recorded at Closet Studios in Montreal. Ahead of this, they present the single 'The Mirror'.

Formed in early 2019 by members of Montreal-based indie artists Room Control, REPO, Scene Noir and Citylake, The Ember Glows is Richard Bunze(guitar), Kevin Hills (bass), Martin Saint (vocals and guitar) and Dan Stefik(drums).

"This song is about how most nations carry skeletons in their closets - even the so-called peaceful ones. Sooner or later, we must face the weight of history and the past hits us hard collectively. We don’t shy away from difficult subjects, but neither do we wish to preach or claim to know better than anybody else. Such sensitive topics have to be handled with delicate taste and utmost respect," says frontman Martin Saint.

"The lyrics are only a personal reflection that came about some two years ago after some of my work in association with APTN (Aboriginal Peoples Television Network), but prior to the ghastly Canadian Residential School mass grave revelations. Musically, this kind of subject matter needed something driving, yet hypnotic enough, to really drive the point home. The song slowly builds up until we explode as a full band."

Just recently, the band released the single 'Silent Love', as well as issuing their 'Passerby' EP on cassette. Wearing their influences on their sleeves, you can hear elements of Simple Minds, The Cult, Echo and the Bunnymen, early U2, Nick Cave and The Mission at the fore.

With performances that make subtle use of dynamics and trace their roots to guitar-driven new wave, psych rock and 90’s British indie music, their recordings channel the feeling of being front and centre at one of their shows. The four-piece have crafted a sound that boasts simple hooks, a pulsating rhythm section, textural guitar interplay and baritone vocals.

Long-time friends since their teenage years, personal chemistry and musical synchronicity brought them together as The Ember Glows. With all four members also being part of other bands, what started as a side-project ultimately became everyone’s main music priority, fueled by their jointly-forged sound and corresponding adrenaline. Each member brings something different to the table - Rich with his knack for texture and big sound, Kevin’s rumbling groovy bass lines, Dan’s manic and melodic drumming, and Martin’s delicate lacing of baritone and jangly guitars.

The 'Where Spirits Play' EP will be released on September 23 and available from all fine digital stores, including via Bandcamp, where it can already be pre-ordered.
