Heavy Rock Outfit Wucan Showcase Their Artistic Depth With New Single + Video for "KTNSAX"

Three years after the release of their studio album Heretic Tongue, the German heavy rock outfit Wucan made a strong statement in March 2025 with the single "Irons in the Fire." 

Now the band is following up with the song "KTNSAX," proving their ability to develop artistically.

While "Irons in the Fire" offered a more classic rock energy, "KTNSAX" embarked on a significantly different path. The song turns out to be unexpectedly danceable and, with its straightforward beat, inevitably encourages you to tap along before the powerful, distorted guitar finally paves its energetic way.

"'Farm some time, watch it grow,' that line came to me on a Monday morning in September 2024, after two weeks bedridden — and harvesting a solid 12 hours of daily screen time on my phone," says singer Francis Tobolsky. "Twelve hours a day in which I believed I was fully up to date: The latest news, trending memes, my friends' daily lunches – and yet completely disconnected from the world around me. The political climate, social media manipulation, filter bubbles, AI – these were things I needed to process.

"At first glance, it all seems so convenient: The library of the world in our hands, the ability to join any conversation, to be the discourse. And yet we hide behind carefully curated images, profiles on platforms, pretending to be someone we're not… and perhaps even falling for the façades and profit-driven illusions of others. In the end, what remains is the paradoxical truth: Blessed are the ignorant."

The single was recorded earlier this year at JFD Studios in Dallas, TX and Studio City, CA as well as The Cabinin Orlando, FL and Silver Black Studio, Laval, QC, Canada. 'The Rabbit Hole' was produced, mixed, and mastered by the band's very own J-F Dagenais.

027 Releases New Single “Umbilical Cord” OUT TODAY!

As of recently, 027 has been toiling away in their storage unit rehearsal space. Practicing and writing new material while trying to learn from each other and grow through their music. The result is a powerful new single, “Umbilical Cord,” out today! It’s a teaser for the magnitude of what is to come for this Ontario band. Producing their music in their basement recording studio, 027 aspires to create art and to inspire others to do the same! 

 

Intensity abounds in this stunning new track from 027. The intro is jerky and atonal, leading to a double-time wallop of angry vocals and head-banging ferocity. This is arguably the band’s most toe-tapping number yet as it conjures images of grinding mosh

pits and flying elbows while the catchy riffs hold up the edges. “Umbilical Cord” is a true harbinger of 027’s increasingly evolving musical maturity. 

 

The band calls it a “cute and adventurous track we have enjoyed playing live for quite some time.”

Today 027 is also releasing their self-titled album that compiles one new song alongside a selection of pre-released tracks spanning from 2023 to 2025. Acting as both a retrospective and a powerful statement of identity, '027' captures the full scope of the band’s evolution—from the raw grit of their earliest DIY recordings to the sharpened chaos of their most recent work.

027 (pronounced zero two seven) is an energetic fuzz-rock trio shaking Ontario’s underground music scene with raw, unfiltered energy since 2022. Known not only for their crushing live fuzz-rock but for putting on live shows and being stalwarts of the scene they have come up in, this young band puts passion and vigor into self-producing and promoting their music and shows. 

 

The band’s sonic force is powered by a lifelong friendship between Keagan Ross(guitars/vocals) and Caleb Lavictoire (bass). Bonding over music in elementary school, the two played in bands throughout public school. In November 2022, Keagan scored a gig opening for a popular local band. Although he didn't formally have a band assembled, he quickly put together what is now 027. Caleb and Gray Laine (drummer) had never met until that point, and they played that first show having never practiced or rehearsed as a three-piece. The rest, as they say, is history.

 

The trio loved jamming together and found a similar ethos ran between the two best friends and their new cohort. In spring of 2023, 027 self-produced their first EP, ‘Light Of The Black Sun,’ printing CD jackets using their school’s printers and paper and burning the discs themselves. The band followed up the following spring with an intense EP entitled ‘You’re Not Supposed to Know,’ released in March of 2024. 

 

Definitive supporters of the youth, 027 are committed to only playing venues that allow all ages, and they do their best to book younger bands on their bills to allow them the same exposure they strive for themselves. They are currently working hard on expanding their live audience with multiple Ontario dates already set for May. Rendering a sound that blends punk, metal, stoner rock, and fuzzcore.

California electronic artist Matthew Nowhere to release debut 'Crystal Heights' album on May 23

California electronic-synthpop artist Matthew Nowhere presents his debut album 'Crystal Heights' - a sonic love letter to the 1980s. Throughout its 13 hook laden tracks, this record celebrates and pays homage to new wave classics with memorable songs and a lush, synth and tape-laden production style.

Originally from the San Francisco Bay Area, vocalist, multi-instrumentalist and producer Matthew Nowhere explores sounds of the 1980s with inspired reverence, his unique music bringing good vibes, poetic lyrics and gritty new wave beats. Currently residing in California's Nevada County in the forests of the Sierra Mountains, Matthew Nowhere uses analog production styles in creating deeply authentic and soulful music that speaks to the power of love to overcome all obstacles.  

A self-described "lover and mystic", Matthew Nowhere's lyrics on 'Crystal Heights' deliver on that promise. Themes of wonder, transcendence and mystery weave through the album, along with a constant emphasis on the importance of love. Though some songs are introspective and melancholy, overall, 'Crystal Heights' is an uplifting album, following a palpable arc of love, growth, and redemption.

“This album takes another look at something beautiful once rejected. I decided to return to the music that was all around during my childhood, and to explore the entire emotional landscape of those incredibly formative years. With gritty drum machines and analog synths, 'Echoes Still Remain', ‘Crystal Heights’ and 'Love Is Only What We Are' recall synthpop greats such as OMD, Depeche Mode and New Order.  Elsewhere, on ‘Ruby Shards’ and ‘Everything’s True’, Matthew Nowhere delivers a more band-driven sound with echoes of The Church or Psychedelic Furs.

Standout tracks 'Transforming' and 'Persist3nce' feature Lunar Twin, made of up vocalist Bryce Boudreau and multi-instrumentalist Christopher Murphy. Mainstays on the dreamgaze scene for many years, their contributions weave a fine layer of silk into the fabric of this sublime retro-futuristic music. On ‘Transforming’, Nowhere spins neon-lit electronica, mixing beautifully with Boudreau’s emotive, broody vocal style. On ‘Persist3nce’, Nowhere and Boudreau are joined by the darkwave synth stylings of Lunar Twin's Chris Murphy and angelic choir tones by the Antonio Family Singers.

"Music to me is literally magic. I am transforming feelings into sounds. And if I’m going to do that kind of alchemy, the feelings I want to share are ones that are meaningful and transformative. Life is wild and mysterious, and it doesn’t always make sense. But the important things - connection, love - are always grounding and I can’t think of anything else I want to focus my life on," says Matthew Nowhere.

BEAR MACE Release Crushing New Single “Drown Them In Their Blood”

Chicago death metal destroyers BEAR MACE have unleashed their latest single, “Drown Them In Their Blood,” a brutal, mid-tempo assault taken from their acclaimed third album Slaves of the Wolf. “Going deep into your enemy’s territory to annihilate them in the middle of the night. It is sometimes a necessity in warfare,” says vocalist CHRIS SCEARCE, whose lyrics bring a visceral, tactical realism to the band’s ferocious sound.

Originally written at a much faster pace, the band made a deliberate choice to shift gears and let the weight of the riffs do the talking.

“‘Drown Them…’ started out as a much faster song,” explains guitarist MARK SUGAR. “But on a record that already has a lot of fast songs, we decided this one would work better as a slower, Bolt Thrower-ish crusher, and we made it so.”

The result is a grinding, doom-laced death metal anthem that channels the grim finality of combat and the unstoppable force of old-school heaviness. With its thunderous riffs and deliberate pacing, “Drown Them In Their Blood” is both a nod to death metal’s roots and a statement of BEAR MACE’s unstoppable evolution.

BASK Cover The Brian Jonestown Massacre

After a smoking hot tour with their labelmates and fellow North Carolinians Weedeater, Bask are now ready to turn over a different kind of leaf. The Asheville natives will release their fourth album later this year. But first, the band are looking back at one of their influences. 

"We've always been inspired by acts like The Brian Jonestown Massacre", says guitarist and vocalist Zeb Wright. "They write songs that feel outside of time and place". 

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the documentary that thrust The Brian Jonestown Massacre into the spotlight, today, Bask are releasing a cover of "Anemone". The road to get to this point has been much smoother than it was for the shaggy San Franciscan collective, but the heavy dose of Americana that the band bring to this cult classic shows how far they've come.

Even though they're separated across coastlines and nearly three decades, Bask and The Brian Jonestown Massacre were in a similar headspace heading into their fourth albums. While partially named after the Rolling Stones' guitarist, BJM shifted from spaced-out shoegaze to flower-powered '60s psychedelia on 1996's Their Satanic Majesties' Second Request. Bask's upcoming full-length also ventures into headier pastures, though their cover of that album's sleeper hit "Anemone" is plucked straight from the band's Appalachian roots.

"You should be picking me up / Instead you're dragging me down", Wright repeats in a dazed drawl while twanging on his banjo. 

Bask haven't endured nearly the same amount of lineup turnover as their kindred spirits in The Brian Jonestown Massacre. On "Anemone", Drummer Scott Middleton and bassist Jesse Van Note hold down a bottomless groove that's as sludgy and free-flowing as a riverbed. But this cover is the first release since Jed Willis joined as the band's official fifth member. As his pedal steel ripples against Ray Worth's colorfully swirling leads, the band take cosmic country into a whole new dimension.
 
"'Anemone' is hypnotic in its repetition and perfectly expresses the combination of emotional distress and unbothered cool that to us feels so integral to BJM's sound and songwriting", Bask says. "It's also really fun to play and riff on".

Hailing from Carolina’s storied Blue Ridge Mountains, Bask came together in the fall of 2013. Guitarist Ray Worth, drummer Scott Middleton, bassist Jesse Van Note and guitarist/vocalist Zeb Wright produce sounds that reflect their lush yet rugged Appalachian habitat.

The band's upcoming fourth album is an inter-dimensional Western that digs its heels into their trailblazing Heavy Americana by swirling between raw, metallic energy and country twang.

Psychedelic-tinged indie rockers Messiness present 'Feature With a Rapper', following their March debut single 'Previous Life'. This is the second taste of the band's first album, slated for release later this year via Tarla Records and StoneFree Records. Driven by a ferocious baritone sax riff, this is an electrifying fusion of hard psych rock and Mediterranean vibes, laced with a chaotic arsenal of folk instruments, flower-punk relics and aggressive old-school rap.

What starts as a tongue-in-cheek tale of an artist chasing industry clout unravels into a biting critique of creative legitimacy in the digital age. The track’s high-energy delivery mirrors the desperation of an independent musician, who is struggling to navigate a world where access trumps talent, and credibility is a commodity. Playful yet scathing, its explosive sound and razor-sharp irony make it both a wild ride and a ruthless industry takedown.

Revolving around Sicilian singer, composer, multi-instrumentalist, writer and sociologist Max Raffa, Messiness is the welcome result of his remarkable journey, carved through Europe’s cultural landscapes, from sun-bleached Balearic shores to British harbour towns, as Raffa performed in various rock’n’roll bands while conducting the ethnographic research that ultimately shaped his musical vision. Messiness also involves Rosario Lo Monaco on guitars, Filippo La Marca on keyboards, Giovanni Calella on bass guitar, and Luca Anello on drums. Creating accessible, vibrant feel-good indie rock with Britpop leanings, Messiness synthesizes elements of art pop, psychedelic and space rock, their harmonic styles amalgamating the best of British rock, Britpop and Southern European flavours.

In its absurdist circularity, 'Feature with a Rapper' transcends its narrative of industry frustration and becomes a broader indictment of neoliberal cultural economies, where creative legitimacy is both a commodity and a privilege.

"The industry, as depicted here, is a closed circuit, where legitimacy is not earned through talent alone but through prior recognition. This dilemma is exacerbated by the anonymous and decentralized nature of digital platforms; the question “Who are you?” is not simply an expression of unfamiliarity but an existential challenge to artistic worth. In an era where visibility is currency, those without prior capital are functionally non-existent," says Max Raffa.

The protagonist’s journey—from naively seeking validation through established figures to cynically circumventing the process through royalty-free loopholes—mirrors the contemporary artist’s existential dilemma: to play by the rules is to remain invisible, but to cheat the system is to risk exposure as inauthentic. Messiness delivers this critique not with heavy-handed indignation but with a biting, self-aware irony that makes the song as humorous as it is damning. This is ultimately a manifesto of disillusionment—an acknowledgment that, in an industry where credibility is dictated by association, authenticity itself becomes a construct.

“I can’t believe it’s been four years since we released an album, and I’m excited to get the whole record out there,” said Shelton. “I’ve always been someone who wants to collect great songs but sometimes the hardest thing to do is to find something that hasn’t been said or written before or a melody that we haven't heard. I’m always on the search for that. I look back over the years, and I’m just proud because some of those songs don’t sound like anything else. And I think we did it again with this album.”

To celebrate the release, Shelton performed “Texas” on the 60th Academy of Country Music Awards and he will take over national television next week. On Tuesday, May 13, he’ll perform live from the Today Show Summer Concert Series stage at Rockefeller Plaza before stopping by The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon later that night. He’ll close out the week on Friday, May 16, with a reunion on The Kelly Clarkson Show, joining his former Voice rival and longtime friend.

One of the most personal cuts on the record is “The Keys,” a melodic slow-burn co-written by HARDY that Shelton says hit him straight in the gut. “You know, I’m not the kind of guy who hangs on to a lot of stuff, but I’ve got this weird habit—I don’t throw away old keys,” Shelton explains. “Apartment keys, truck keys, padlock keys—I keep them all. So this song really got to me. The story, the melody, the way it wraps up at the end... I couldn’t shake it.”

HARDY, who also co-wrote the already released fan-favorite “Let Him In Anyway,” sent Shelton the demo with him specifically in mind. “This one’s more in my lane than his,” Shelton says. “It’s got the feel of those mellow, romantic tracks I’ve done through the years—like ‘Drink On It.’ Songs like this are why I still love making records.”

Shelton kickstarted the year with his Live In Las Vegas Residency at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace. He just wrapped his Friends & Heroes Tour, which featured Craig Morgan, Deana Carter, Trace Adkins and Emily Ann Roberts, and will play a variety of festivals this summer  The Grand Ole Opry member also remains focused on his Ole Red partnership with Ryman Hospitality, with locations currently in Tishomingo, Nashville, Gatlinburg, Orlando, and most recently, Las Vegas, with a stand-alone venue complete with a roof-top stage and bar on the Las Vegas strip.

Depressive black metallers GHOST BATH have emerged from beyond the veil with their new album, Rose Thorn Necklace, out now via Nuclear Blast Records.  In their 12th year of existence, the band is not in the business of softening the edges. Rather, the frontman (Nameless aka Dennis Mikula) is leaning more toward his antisocial traits, serrated like a rusty knife yet beautifully honed over years of toil. Today, the band release the visualizer for the track, 'Vodka Butterfly'.

Rose Thorn Necklace was recorded in 2024 between January and June. The drums were recorded and engineered by Mike Heller at Heaven and Heller Studios while the remaining sections were completed by Nameless (Dennis Mikula) at his home studio. The album was mixed and mastered by Jack Shirley. The cover artwork was created by Ksenija Tarasova. Free from the Moonlover-Starmourner-Self Loather conceptual trilogy, sole proprietor Nameless(aka Dennis Mikula) explores the most intense and introspective music from GHOST BATH’s oeuvre, advancing with blackened blasts and melancholic movements while moving his only child forward into the unknown.
