GRAVEYARD - Announce Brand New Album "Fever" To Be Released On October 9th

One of the most distinctive and revered forces in rock music, Sweden’s GRAVEYARD have announced October 9th, 2026 as the release date for their highly anticipated seventh studio album, Fever. Three years after the dreamlike haze of much-lauded previous record Six, the band return with a heavier, more direct sound — while still carrying the blues-soaked soul that defined their breakthrough album Hisingen Blues.

GRAVEYARD commented:
“Alright folks. Here it is — album number 7.
Fever. Haven’t we always had it?
The itch, the burn and the restlessness.
The urge to push forward into the fog. Even with the teeth of hopelessness snapping at our asses and all the smoke and mirrors of our time telling us we got no future.
Come what may. Let’s go!

This time around, we decided to waste no time. No outside producer. No detours.
Just GRAVEYARD, straight to the point, doing what we do best.
This just might be our greatest album so far!
Hope you like it, too.”

The striking artwork for Fever was created by acclaimed Dutch artist Maarten Donders, whose powerful and expressive visual style has been showcased at the renowned cult festival Roadburn. Over the years, Donders has created artwork for more than 50 artists, ranging from Acid King to Frank Zappa.

Handling mixing duties is Pelle Gunnerfeldt, celebrated for capturing the raw intensity of bands such as The Hives and Refused, while more recently working with Viagra Boys.

Furthermore,GRAVEYARD have confirmed the first leg of their 2026 / 2027 tour with BLUES PILLS. Scroll down for all confirmed shows. Stay tuned for more European dates to be announced!

More exciting news regarding Fever and additional GRAVEYARD live dates will be revealed soon!

SATURN'S DOWNFALL Ignites the Future of Modern Rock with Explosive NEW Single "ELECTRIC SKYLINE"

"Electric Skyline” is an anthem about breaking free from the noise, reclaiming control, and building your own future driven by massive hooks, heavy guitars, and pure modern rock energy."

The future belongs to those willing to take it, and

SATURN'S DOWNFALL is making that statement loud and clear with their powerful new single, "Electric Skyline."

Fueled by soaring melodies, thunderous riffs, and an undeniable sense of purpose, "Electric Skyline" arrives as a bold declaration from a band determined to leave its mark on the modern rock landscape. Blending massive hooks with hard-hitting guitar work and infectious energy, the track captures the spirit of breaking free from limitations and forging a path forward on your own terms.

The song's electrifying atmosphere mirrors its message. Every riff surges with urgency, every chorus demands to be shouted back at full volume, and every lyric speaks to those who refuse to be defined by the expectations of others. It's a soundtrack for dreamers, fighters, and anyone ready to take the wheel of their own destiny.

BIO:

SATURN'S DOWNFALL is a modern hard rock band built for fans of massive choruses, heavy riffs, and the emotional intensity that defined the golden era of 2000s rock.

Formed in 2025 in York, Pennsylvania by drummer Brady Hearn and his father, guitarist Scott Hearn, the band was built on a foundation of family, long-standing creative chemistry, and a shared vision to create powerful modern rock with timeless energy.

Drawing influence from Three Days Grace, Breaking Benjamin, and Skillet, SATURN'S DOWNFALL blends cinematic atmosphere, driving low end, and anthemic songwriting that bridges classic rock power with

modern production.

With themes of struggle, rebirth, and cosmic destiny woven throughout their music, the band has quickly begun building momentum with their breakout single “Chasing Gravity,” earning early radio traction across the U.S. and internationally, including spins on 105.7 The X, 92.7 WQLZ, 97.9X, The Sound, and Australia’s Valley FM 89.5, along with a #4 placement on an independent Top 10 countdown.

SATURN'S DOWNFALL delivers emotionally charged modern rock built for both the stage and the next generation of rock listeners.

German Symphonic Metal Icons XANDRIA Unveil Video for New Single "Colours"

German symphonic metal band XANDRIA present the second single from their upcoming album. "Colours" is another highlight in their 30-year-spanning career. Throughout the song, a large classical choir takes center stage, while cinematic orchestral arrangements collide with modern metal riffing. Meanwhile, singer Ambre Vourvahis showcases her impressive vocal range, switching between multiple styles as effortlessly as she is convincing; a skill rare in symphonic metal as well as elsewhere. From harsh vocals all the way to operatic singing, "Colours" creates a sound that is both grand and contemporary— a powerful showcase of what modern symphonic metal can be.

After the latest album (2023) became XANDRIA's most successful release to date, entering the Official German Album Charts at #9, the upcoming Eclipse, releasing August 7 via Napalm Records, is taking the band on their most diverse path yet. A journey full of discoveries, it has XANDRIA show their true "Colours..."

Band mastermind Marco Heubaum comments on "Colours":
"This is the second song from our upcoming album that we are proud to share with you. Together with the first single, 'The Shannon's Home', it offers another glimpse into the many different colours of the album — a journey full of discoveries, unexpected turns, and quite a few surprises. Just as diversity makes our world richer, it also shapes this album. Different voices, different perspectives, different emotions — all part of what makes life richer, stronger and more beautiful."

Watch the official video for "Colours" Below:

Chart-topping German symphonic metal icons XANDRIA will release their new studio album, Eclipse, on August 7 via Napalm Records. The upcoming full-length features 11 tracks that represent the most diverse body of work in the band's discography so far: Every song has its own identity—a journey full of discoveries—yet they all belong to the same world. Classic, '80s-inspired metal riffs stand alongside low-tuned modern metal guitars, cinematic orchestral sounds meet Celtic folk influences, and dark electronic elements blend with intimate rock moments, even including a guitar solo that owes more to Pink Floyd than to any metal genre.

Eclipse marks XANDRIA's most outspoken and cinematic album so far: A dark, colourful, and defiant statement for reason, empathy, and democracy in times when all three are under attack, brought to life by a band fueled with new energy, new ambitions, and a clear artistic direction, aiming higher than ever and not looking back!

Pre-order your copy of Eclipse here.

As guests, XANDRIA welcome Subway to Sally's violinist Ally Storch, who can be heard on "Lore," while the band's longtime friend McAlbi is featured on four songs with his Celtic tin and low whistles ("The Shannon’s Home," "Northstar," "Masquerade," and "Lore"). "The Last Generation" features a children’s choir and piano performed by Richard Z. Wang, a Hollywood pianist who has worked at Hans Zimmer's studio. In addition, the band has once again collaborated with the Sofia Session Orchestra & Choir, known for their work on numerous film and television scores, including His Dark Materials. All songs were orchestrated by two film score composers working in Hollywood: Lukas Geppert, who worked on the scores for Nobody 2 and the latest Final Destination, and Ishaan Tyagi, who has contributed to productions such as Wuthering Heights.

ROLLING STONE ADDS MARISSA R. MOSS AS SENIOR WRITER

Award-winning journalist Marissa R. Moss has joined Rolling Stone as Senior Writer. Moss has been a regular contributor to the magazine since 2008 and helped launch Rolling Stone Country, the title’s country music vertical, in 2014.

A New York native and 15-year resident of Nashville, she will contribute to the magazine’s country music coverage across editorial, digital, and live platforms. Moss will report to Joseph Hudak, Rolling Stone Deputy Editor and Head of Country.

“There's no better place to cover country music right now, or with a bigger investment in what matters in Nashville and the South, than Rolling Stone,” Moss said. “I couldn’t be more thrilled to join the team, where I’ll get to work with the best editors and writers in the business — not to mention Joe Hudak, who has carefully edited my stories as a freelancer for over a decade. I can't wait to bring readers work that explores the artists who are shaping the culture, the trends driving it, and investigative reports that hold the industry accountable.”

“When we launched Rolling Stone Country in June 2014, we did so with Marissa’s byline as a contributor. Since then, she’s been responsible for some of our most important stories, including a seismic 2018 feature on sexual misconduct in country radio, definitive profiles of Sturgill Simpson and Sierra Ferrell, and a Musicians on Musicians conversation between Miley Cyrus and Mickey Guyton. I could not be more excited about what Marissa will bring to Rolling Stone as Senior Writer,” Hudak said.

Along with her bylines as a journalist in the New York Times, GQ, Billboard, Vulture, and more, Moss is the author of the 2022 book Her Country: How Women in Country Music Became the Success They Were Never Supposed to Be and the forthcoming I’ve Been a Bad, Bad Girl (out in 2027 via Da Capo Press). She is the 2018 recipient of the Rolling Stone Chet Flippo Award for Excellence in Country Music and the co-founder of the country newsletter DontRocktheInbox.com.

U.S. indie rocker JONNY COUCH reveals 'Overwhelmed', previewing first album in 7 years

U.S. indie rocker Jonny Couch returns with 'Overwhelmed', the first single from the full-length rock and roll journey 'Where The Sidewalk Ends' – his first new album in seven years. This 10-track offering – his most ambitious work to date – features such fan favorites as 'Sweet Charlene' and more recent compositions, expanding on the melodic craftsmanship and emotional honesty that have become hallmarks of Couch's songwriting,

An inviting gateway to the new album, 'Overwhelmed' is fuelled by jangling guitars, a propulsive rhythm section, and an undeniable melodic hook, pairing upbeat energy with lyrics that explore the frustrations of a relationship coming apart in real time.

'Where The Sidewalk Ends' features cover artwork by world-recognized New York artist Anne Muntges, known for her highly detailed drawings, prints, and installations. Exhibiting nationally and internationally, he work was also featured in the music-history volume "Women Who Rock: Bessie to Beyoncé, Girl Groups to Riot Grrrl".

'Overwhelmed' was recorded at Landline Recording in Hoboken, New Jersey and engineered, mixed and produced by Jon Chinn (Wild Child, Lomelda, David Ramirez, Gina Chavez, Calliope Musicals), one of four accomplished producers involved in this album, each of whom bring their own perspective to the sessions.

The album was mastered at Mr. Pink Records in Bastrop, TX by Jonas Wilson, known for his work with The Black Angels, Heartless Bastards, Sumbuck and Urban Heat. Along with Chinn, Wilson is one of the producers involved in this album, the other two being Peter Mavrogeorgis (The National, Boy Harsher, Grinderman, Sharon Van Etten, Bootblacks), and Dan Haag (The Astrojet and The Black Swans, both fronted by Fountains of Wayne's Jody Porter).

"'I'm obsessed with the song 'Good Thing' by Fine Young Cannibals. I wanted to write something danceable and jangly and fun like that. This song admittedly sounds a lot different and is much faster, however I'm hoping that the fun spirit remains with the bounciness of the drums and bass and the jangly guitar parts," says Jonny Couch.

"This is a tune about relationship troubles, and having cigarette smoke blown in your face, which really isn't ideal when you're trying to have a meaningful conversation. Then again, maybe it's all your fault."

Now a fixture on the New York and New Jersey music scene, Couch was a NYC rock drummer before embarking on his journey as a solo artist in 2016. His acclaimed 'Animal Instinct' EP earned praise for its blend of soulful pop and rock sensibilities, with Louder Than War dubbing him "a Bryan Ferry pop crooner" and High Times calling his work "charming". His 2019 debut album 'Mystery Man' further established his reputation as a gifted songwriter, earning recognition in Bandcamp Daily's "Unsung Power Pop Gems From All Eras" feature and thensome.

Building a devoted following through energetic performances and sharp songwriting, Jonny Couch has performed alongside artists including The Fleshtones, Josie Cotton, The Nude Party, Paul Collins Beat, and The Plimsouls, along with appearances at the Savannah Stopover Music Festival, Hoboken Arts & Music Festival, Jersey City's Lo-Fi Fest, and WFMU 91.1 FM. He can regularly be spotted on stage at haunts like Pet Shop, Berlin and TV Eye, wearing his signature black cap.

Between infectious rockers and ballads, Couch's music draws its origins directly from the power pop and new wave greats of the late '70s and early '80s. Now, back with renewed focus and a collection of songs rooted in timeless songwriting, strong melodies and rock-and-roll energy. 'Overwhelmed' offers a compelling first glimpse of what's to come—an unmistakable reminder of why Jonny Couch remains an artist to watch in 2026.

As of 'June 1st, 'Overwhelmed' will be available for download exclusively via Bandcamp. Now available for pre-order, 'Where The Sidewalk Ends' will be released on July 24th. Jonny Couch's album release show takes place that same evening at Sleepwalk in Brooklyn with other live dates in New Jersey, Georgia and New York happening this summer and UK dates to follow in August.

ECCE SHNAK kicks off UK tour with EMF, sharing trippy art-metal single “Vincent”

NYC art-rockers Ecce Shnak kick off their UK tour with EMF this week, beginning with Manchester and followed by Worthing, Portsmouth, Southend, London and Leeds.  They wrapped up East coast and Midwest dates in North America last month following their 2025 West Coast, along with Spacehog. Ecce Shnak also recently featured on EMF's stellar track 'LGBTQ+ Lover' with both Davey and Bella contributing vocals, the video for which was filmed during the 2025 tour.

This is all happening on the back of "Vincent", the first single from their full-length album “Dandy Variances", out in autumn via Records, Man Records.  Operatic trills collide with frantic rock energy in a high-decibel takedown of a formulaic antagonist through the power of one's own voice. Directed and edited by DJay Brawner and produced by Brawner, Brooks Jones, Beth Narducci and David Roush, the video is an homage to superb music videos of yesteryear - for Meshuggah’s “Bleed” and 311's “Down”.

Formed in the mid-noughties and forged in NYC's experimental scene, Ecce Shnak (pronounced Eh-kay sh-knock) is made up of David Roush (composer, bassist and one of two singers), Bella Komodromos (vocals), Chris Krasnow (guitar), Gannon Ferrell (guitar), and Henry Buchanan-Vaughn (drums).

"We, Ecce Shnak and EMF, are absolutely thrilled to BOOMshnakalaka our way through 6 dates in EMF’s homeland... It will be EMF and Ecce Shnak’s 3rd musical voyage together, after our trampucings through the West Coast of the US in June 2025 and parts of the East Coast this past month," says David Roush.

Ecce Shnak has a reputation for astounding performances, their music a volatile yet meticulously crafted ecosystem, where technical precision meets a sense of inspired mayhem. Their 2025 'Shadows Grow Fangs' EP was recorded and produced by Jeff Lucci, mixed by Nicholas Vernhes (Animal Collective, Deerhunter, Wild Nothing, War on Drugs) and mastered by Grammy award-winning engineer Joe LaPorta (David Bowie, The Weeknd, Foo Fighters, Vampire Weekend).

"Vincent is a mid-tempo, jumpy, flash-in-the-pan hardcore song with classical art song vocals. I originally wrote it for a film that was never made but was imagined by a classmate of mine at Temple University in Philadelphia in 2015. The character Vincent is an archetype of a smug, inconsiderate jerk most of us occasionally come across, try as we might to avoid them. Vincent is not an absolute scoundrel, but he is wack enough to rightly deserve the average person’s indignant eye-roll," says David Roush.

"Ultimately, the narrator resolves to overthrow Vincent’s jerkface’itude in the final refrain: “I’ll destroy your equipment with my voice!” If you have a medium-tier opponent in your life whom you would like to rid yourself of somehow, you can sing this line to yourself. Hopefully your Vincent will buzz off and go kick rocks!"

'Vincent' can be found on digital music platforms, includingSpotifyApple Music, YouTube Music and Bandcamp.  Tour tickets are available online

"I am thrilled & honored to be coming home to Chicago with Jesse Michaels.  His art and music has inspired me from a young age so I was grateful to make his acquaintance and become good friends with him when I moved to the Bay Area from Chicago years ago. We are both very excited to bring our art to my hometown together,” says Matt Skiba who has been working with Punk Rock & Paintbrushes for over a decade and was the catalyst for the start of the creative collective.

Jesse Michaels adds, “I am really stoked to be doing an exhibit with Matt and Punk Rock & Paintbrushes in Chicago. I love this city, I love Matt and all his art.  I have a lot of new art I am excited to put up and out."

LED BY VULTURES THE EXPLOSIVE NEW LOS ANGELES BAND FRONTED BY BRIAN TICHY IS BACK WITH THEIR SECOND SINGLE AND VIDEO FOR “MASSIVITY”

Renowned drummer, and multi-instrumentalist Brian Tichy is stepping out front and into the spotlight with his latest musical venture, Led By Vultures, an explosive new band blending raw intensity, arena-sized hooks, uncompromising musicianship, and is poised to make a major impact on the modern rock landscape.

Known for his commanding work with legendary artists, Tichy now takes center stage as the driving creative force and frontman of Led By Vultures. The project showcases a bold evolution of his artistry, fusing crushing riffs, thunderous rhythms, melodic aggression, and emotionally charged songwriting into a sound that is both timeless and urgent.

Led By Vultures channels the spirit of classic hard rock while pushing into fresh sonic territory. The band’s music is built on a foundation of unapologetic energy, powerful storytelling, and an electrifying chemistry that reflects Tichy’s decades of experience at the highest levels of rock performance.

The new single “Massivity” showcases Tichy’s signature groove and features keyboardist Derek Sherinian. As Tichy puts it, “I had a word for the title, a riff on guitar involving an octave pedal, and a big drum groove. I sent the music to Derek Sherinian and he quickly sent back his bells and whistles which were all used! In that, he doubled the guitar with a heavy synth sound and some thick cellos making for an even more massive riff! Massivity is not a word but sounds like it could be. The song concept is loosely about questioning how much pressure a person can handle at once.

Watch “Massivity” Below:

The debut release from Led By Vultures which drops in late summer, promises a dynamic collection of songs that capture the grit and fire of rock’s golden era while delivering a distinctly modern edge. Fans can expect soaring vocals, blistering musicianship, and a relentless sonic attack designed to resonate with both longtime rock devotees and a new generation of listeners. The release will be available on Limited Edition purple vinyl and will have a limited bundle with a personally signed 10x10 album flat by Tichy.

Revered Melodic Rockers PRIDE OF LIONS Share New Single "Edge Of Forever" + Visualizer

Today, PRIDE OF LIONS, led by Jim Peterik and Toby Hitchcock, are proud to share the new single "Edge Of Forever," taken from their upcoming new album, 'Unbridled,' set for release on July 10th via Frontiers Music Srl. Produced by Jim Peterik and mixed by Larry Millas, 'Unbridled' marks the eighth studio album from PRIDE OF LIONS. "Edge Of Forever"arrives alongside an official visualizer.

On the new track, Jim Peterik shares:

"The song 'Edge Of Forever' is one of my favorite tracks from our latest PRIDE OF LIONSalbum- 'Unbridled.' But to be honest, I wasn’t sure how are fans would respond to it. It breaks with our tradition of songs of positivity and light and replacing it with with the feeling that the world situation seems to keep getting more and more unsettled posing the question 'Are we standing at the edge of forever?' Toby and I offer hope of course for a better world by joining hand and coming together. Peace."

Watch the Official Visualizer for "Edge Of Forever" Below:

With ‘Unbridled,’ legendary AOR torchbearers PRIDE OF LIONS return with their eighth studio album, a commanding statement from one of melodic rock’s most enduring acts. Since their formation in 2003 by Jim Peterik — the songwriting force behind anthems like “Eye of the Tiger” and “The Search Is Over” — and powerhouse vocalist Toby Hitchcock, PRIDE OF LIONS have been celebrated for fusing classic melodic sensibilities with modern rock energy. Over two decades later, they remain at the forefront of the genre, consistently delivering songs that resonate with depth, emotion, and unforgettable hooks.

‘Unbridled’ is a 12-track journey that showcases the band’s remarkable craft. Every element of the lineup shines: Ed Breckenfeld’s driving drums and percussion lay a solid foundation; Mike Aquino’s lead and acoustic guitars deliver both fire and finesse; Bob Lizik’s bass anchors each arrangement with strength and groove; and Jim Peterik’s keyboards and secondary guitar add lush melodic layers. The signature dual vocal performances from Peterik and Hitchcock — alternately commanding, expressive, and harmonically rich — elevate the songs to new heights.

The album is mixed by longtime collaborator Larry Millas, whose work brings clarity, depth, and punch to every track. Standout singles like the title track “Unbridled” — with its striking guitar intro and immediate melodic hook — and “Edge of Forever” underline the band’s ability to craft timeless rock songs that feel both classic and contemporary.

Through ‘Unbridled,’ PRIDE OF LIONS reaffirm their status as masters of melodic rock and AOR. It’s an album that will satisfy longtime fans while serving as a powerful introduction for new listeners, showcasing a band that continues to evolve without ever losing its core identity.

Katerina Nicole Shares "Ladybug"Video

Katerina Nicole is the voice of a storm — a haunting presence where fragile whispers rise above crashing waves of sound and the thunderous weight of darkness. Her music exists in contrasts: delicate yet unrelenting, a dance of light and shadow, where beauty and brutality intertwine. Each song feels like a ritual, unraveling themes of transformation, resilience, and the quiet strength found in chaos With her 2025-issused debut EP, Serene in Violent Oceans, Katerina invited listeners into a world as turbulent as it is breathtaking, offering a glimpse of the beauty hidden within the storm.

Today, she returns with the video for the gorgeous and hauting new single "Ladybug."

Watch it below.

"'Ladybug' is for the ones who are still learning to carry the weight long after the goodbye," the artist says. "I really leaned into a punk-infused metalcore sound with this track — emotional and unapologetically raw. The song was fully written by me and brought to life alongside Jordan Chase in British Columbia, Canada. This release feels like a turning point creatively, and I'm excited to keep evolving my sound through the next push of music. I am currently looking to join a band full-time, grow my team, and push this energy even further — whatever form that takes."

Green Carnation Release New Video for Aching Ballad “Loneliness Untold, Loneliness Unfold”

Now, as they prepare to turn the page to the bold and resounding final chapter of A Dark Poem, Green Carnation are releasing a new video for the most raw and aching ballad from Part II. In a rare appearance, the band’s bassist and primary lyricist Stein Roger Sordal steps in front of the mic on “Loneliness Untold, Loneliness Unfold” with hopes of reaching a long-lost friend.

“Obviously, this song is about loneliness, but more specifically, it’s about watching a very good and close friend gradually shut himself off from the rest of the world”, Sordal says. “It’s about sitting on the sidelines, watching it happen and not being able to do anything about it”.

After reaching crushing new highs during its grand and gloomy opener, A Dark Poem, Part II: Sanguis reveals Green Carnation at their deepest, darkest and most vulnerable depths. Two decades have past since bassist and lyricist Stein Roger Sordal last took the lead on vocals, but he alone carries the burden of “Loneliness Untold, Loneliness Unfold”. Accompanied by little more than a somber guitar melody that unwinds like the slow passage of time, he delivers one of the most chilling ballads that the prog bards have ever penned. “Do you want to die?” he asks a reclusive friend. That his voice doesn’t waver in posing the question confirms his fear of already knowing the answer.

“The songs on Part II come as they are, with no filter”, Sordal says. “I needed to set these stories free and let them out”.

The video for “Loneliness Untold, Loneliness Unfold” was directed and edited by Rikard Amodei.

Part II introduces more peaks and valleys into the overarching narrative of A Dark Poem, but nowhere does the album’s bleeding-heart core shine through more achingly than its closing ballad. Graced by Ingrid Ose’s soothing flute, “Lunar Tale” positively sparkles, even as it casts a rather grim beacon into the future. “The end justifies the means, you’ll see”, Nordhus sings with eerily quiet confidence. As the piano seeps beneath the moonlight, Sanguisleaves fans hanging in suspense over where this trilogy will end.

SWANWRITER Unveils Haunting And Heavy Single "the painted valley"

Inspired by the dark and gory historical figure, Blood Countess Elizabeth Bathory, SWANWRITER delivers a haunting and dynamic offering in the new single, "the painted valley". Hailing from Vancouver, BC, the progressive metal project is preparing to unveil the second full-length album, melodies of despair, on June 26, 2026.

In the late 16th and early 17th centuries, the Hungarian noblewoman was alleged to have killed hundreds of girls and women, and to have bathed in their blood. In "the painted valley", "The protagonist of the story is a young orphan girl who was taken in by a supposedly kind figure. At the end of the track, she found out that this was an evil witch who was secretly killing them to bathe in their blood", explains project founder Koda.

A solo piano arrangement opens "the painted valley". The music suddenly shifts into a waltz, the piano now joined by a pair of acoustic guitars. A heavy explosion manifests as drums and distorted electric guitars arrive, building the intensity of the sound. Powerful and atmospheric, the shadows descend as harsh vocals growl into life.

The genre-fusion continues throughout the track's progressive compositional style. Falsetto vocals await in the chorus with a string trio creating an eerie layer beneath, before returning to the heavy onslaught. Followed by a minimalist arrangement of classical guitar and piano, "the painted valley" arrives at a foreboding end. SWANWRITER presents a thoroughly compelling display of light and shade through intricate, considered progressive instrumental arrangements. Across melodies of despair, SWANWRITER balances chaos and calm through explorations of dark and emotional narratives.

melodies of despair was produced and mixed by Koda, mastered by Roland Rodas, and features cover artwork by 無た。 / muta.

About SWANWRITER:
SWANWRITER is a dark progressive metal project based in Vancouver, British Columbia, created and performed entirely by the anonymous multi-instrumentalist known as Koda. Formed in 2023, the project emerged from a desire to merge progressive metal songwriting with classical composition, atmospheric storytelling, and emotionally driven arrangements.

Having studied classical piano from an early age before later discovering extreme metal, Koda developed SWANWRITER as a space to explore long-form composition without stylistic limitation. The music draws influence from progressive and experimental metal alongside classical composers such as Bach, Beethoven, and Chopin, resulting in compositions that emphasize dynamics, texture, and narrative pacing.

SWANWRITER debuted with There is a darkness in June 2023, establishing a sound centered on extended song structures, melodic development, and cinematic atmosphere. Rather than focusing on technical exhibition, the project prioritizes mood, storytelling, and cohesion across full-length releases.

Themes throughout SWANWRITER’s work often intersect with psychological horror, melancholy, and introspection, shaped in part by inspiration from horror games, film soundtracks, and dark ambient music. Each release is approached as a complete artistic statement, with careful attention given to sequencing, emotional progression, and sonic detail.

Operating independently, SWANWRITER remains a studio-focused project, with future ambitions that include composing music for horror and narrative-driven media.

Portland's Wooden Overcoat serves potent psych-pop on debut "Hello Sunbeam" EP

Portland dreampop outfit Wooden Overcoat presents their debut "Hello Sunbeam" EP, a sweet spot where lo-fi garage psych meets 90s shoegaze, all anchored by layered harmonies and an evocatively intimate vocal delivery. The focus track "Heaven Right Now" is a reverb-soaked desert psych-rock track about hidden emotional fractures, shared suffering, and how people quietly break under pressure.

Wooden Overcoat is the sonic brainchild of multi-instrumentalist Brant Hajek, having returned to music after a hiatus, recording songs he'd written in his late teens. What started as a practice in self-production transformed into a deep creative obsession with soundscapes and gear. Recording in a rented basement, Hajek built the foundation of the EP through spontaneous experimentation—often veering away from planned sessions to follow sudden bursts of inspiration.

"Recording this EP almost ruined my life, and I hope it sounds like it. Each song is its own little world, in which I lost myself. With childlike wonder, exploring concepts and sounds, I was inspired to make something new each time just to keep the wheel turning. I loved the feeling of momentum, knowing I was creating something out of thin air and maybe grabbing ahold of something slippery and evasive. There’s a feeling of satisfaction I can’t compare to anything else that I get when listening back to something fresh," says Brant Hajek.

"Over countless hours tinkering away with mics, pedals, amps, preamps, and the overall process of tracking and layering guitars, I wanted to make something that sounds old but fresh. I want something that sounds warm and dense, but somehow also airy. I think I achieved that. The curse of any recording artist is wishing you could go back and do it all differently. But instead of beating it to death, I want people to hear the rawness of the result of someone finally figuring out how to a make a record."

Hajek’s creative process is a deeply personal, layered journey towards the spark that turns an emotionally restless melodies into finished pieces. While he himself performed every instrument on thise EP, Wooden Overcoat is now a full band, bringing these tunes to the stage. With Hajek on guitar and lead vocals, he is joined by bassist Dillon Glusker, guitarist Mac and drummer Brian Levin.

The band debuted with the shimmering single "Home", enveloping the senses in a reverb-drenched sanctuary, blending in sun-drenched textures and a wash of tape echo and reverb, followed by "Finally Arrived" with its viscous guitars, slow thudding drums, rhythmic trance-like pulse and dreamy soundscape.  A tapestry of personal mourning and romantic friction, at its core, it examines the delicate nature of human connection, lamenting a cultural tendency to view individuals as replaceable assets.

The video for both singles were created by Italian multi-arts visionary Francesca Bonci, well known for her work with The Dandy Warhols, Pete International Airport and Slowdive's Rachel Goswell, LA's Tombstones In Their Eyes, Federale (The Brian Jonestown Massacre's Collin Hegna), post-rock outfit The Quality of Mercury, and iconic British bard Philip Parfitt.

"This EP was written at a dark time in my life. My mother was diagnosed with cancer, the world was flipped on its head and never really recovered, political turmoil and conflicts overseas dominated the collective conscious, and it profoundly affected me. My relationship was suffering from cumulative stress and I can now see how it came through in what I created. Themes of beauty that doesn’t last, self-sabotage, dissociation, cynicism, and desire for connection but feeling removed from it," says Hajek.

"To me this album is about romanticism vs. reality. “Hello Sunbeam” is something I might say to myself when I’m having a bad day, joking about how grumpy I’m being. But it’s also something I might say when I look outside to see the clouds are parting for a bit and maybe things don’t have to be so dreary."

The name Wooden Overcoat—an old Americana euphemism for a coffin—hints at the project’s core philosophy: a playful balance of moody, mystical imagery with light-hearted humor. Hajek’s creative process is personal, the rough versions eventually coalescing into vivid, emotionally resonant themes. In contrast, this music is vibrant, creating a fantastic dreamlike environment for lovers of life.

The "Hello Sunbeam" EP is available from digital platforms everywhere, including Spotify, Apple Music and Bandcamp.
