Strigoi Streaming New EP for Halloween

STRIGOI were already plenty unsettling on their debut album. After all, this band includes current and former members of Paradise Lose, Extreme Noise Terror, Satyricon and Carcass. But the UK death-doom band's follow-up pushed their grinding asphyxiations to such vile extremes, that it produced an abundance of putridity.

'Bathed In A Black Sun' includes four unreleased or exclusive songs from the recording sessions for their last album 'Viscera', which was mastered by Brad Boatright and mixed by Kurt Ballou. The title track oozes pure, unadorned filth, slimed with sludge riffs and a crusty drum groove, while other songs spew punkish riffs atop leather-spiked d-beats.

"'Bathed In A Black Sun' is part bridge, part exorcism", writes No Clean Singing. "Strigoi will always have that big pit-riff bubbling up just inside them and they have to unleash it somehow".

Strigoi's terrifying new EP comes out this Friday, November 3. But seeing as it's Halloween, they're treating our blackened sweet tooths with an early taste of all five tracks.

When Paradise Lost guitarist Greg Mackintosh put to rest his Vallenfyre side project in 2018, he closed a difficult, but ultimately cathartic period in his life. Created as a tribute to his father John, who passed away in 2009, Vallenfyre originally served as a sounding board for Greg’s grief, but then delved into his nihilistic take on the world. Vallenfyre’s brief existence was intentional — the band always knew they could go no further than the three studio albums that bore their name.

A mere few days after Vallenfyre played its last live show in September 2018, Mackintosh announced the formation of a brand-new band with Vallenfyre bassist Chris Casket (Ex. Extreme Noise Terror), Strigoi. The English twosome released their debut album Abandon All Faith on 22nd November 2019 which was met by widespread critical acclaim and support. From this success, the band began preproduction to take the project live, recruiting to the line-up drummer Guido Zima (Ex Implore / The Secret) and live guitarist Sam Kelly-Wallace (Ex Vallenfyre) to begin spreading their foreboding gospel throughout the European festival circuit.

Unfortunately, due to the global pandemic that hit Spring 2020 Strigoi were unable to perform live as planned, and realising this situation was going to be a long-term constraint Greg and Chris decided to begin writing for a second album. This 18-month process culminated in Strigoi signing to Season Of Mist records, then heading to Orgone Studios UK to track 14 brand new songs under the watchful eye of award winning producer Jamie Gomez Arellano.

The bands line up, now set with the addition of guitarist Ben Ash (Satyricon / Ex. Carcass) completed the recording of the album ‘Viscera’ in October 2021, subsequently mixed by Kurt Ballou at GodCity Studios and mastered by Brad Boatright at Audiosiege Studios. ‘Viscera’ represents the further evolution of Strigoi as a band, a concept fully realised as a statement of terror, malaise, and ultimately a record representing what Greg and Chris wanted to achieve from the band’s inception.

Their new 'Bathed In A Black Sun' EP includes five unreleased songs from the recording sessions for 'Viscera'. The title track is pure, unadulterated filth, slimed with sludge riffs and a crusty drum groove.

Phoenix-based synthpunk grindcore pop nerd rap duo Snailmate has released their new album 'Stress Sandwich' via Indiestructable Records, with a twisted humorous take on existential anxiety. Serving up funky, poppy, screamy fun through synth-laced alternative raps, their music is like a quick-onset panic attack with the right meds to be able to keep calm and enjoy the ride.

Snailmate is lyricist-vocalist and synth wizard Kalen Lander and drummer-backup vocalist Bentley Monet, whose music fuses synthpunk, grindcore, pop and nerd rap for an unpredictable and explosive sound. Together they craft music that is cathartic and relatable yet unique and genre-defying, using humor and wit to tackle topics from isolation and queer identity to bangers about hot sauce and nostalgia.

Produced by Ari Leopold at Lava Lake Studio in Phoenix, 'Stress Sandwich' is about growth, exploring themes such as vulnerability, disappointment, and art-making as a beautiful yet imperfect process. They go head to head with depression, anxiety, imposter syndrome, anger, hunger, laziness... but also fun things! These 10 tracks - laced with sarcasm, breathless lyricism and unpredictable genre-bending energy - will leave you satisfied and wanting more.

"This album has been in the works for so long. It took years to process all these feelings and experiences and distill them into just ten short songs, but I’m really glad we didn’t try and finish this thing any sooner. It would have tasted so much different. The flavors needed time to develop. I couldn’t have written 'Toll Road' until that bastard stole our money. 'The Snailmate Show' wasn’t a thing before we were forced to quarantine and couldn’t play live. And until we had to go through some intense physical changes, 'My Weird Gross Body' just wouldn’t have been the same," says Kalen Lander.

"I beat myself up a lot during this whole process. I felt like I was taking too long to write the lyrics, and that meant that I was bad at writing. I had lost my touch. But then I really started to understand how, when I FINALLY finished the words for a song, it was perfect. It couldn’t have been perfect if I’d forced it out any sooner. And I think 'The Laziest Man in the World' encapsulates that sentiment better than anything."

The duo also presents their latest video for 'The Laziest Man in the World', created by Chase A Warren.

"This song is my attempt to glorify and glamorize my extreme lack of motivation. Even though the approach was to be as lazy as possible, the song nevertheless features dexterous lyricism and quick, intricate rhyme schemes. Sometimes, sitting around and doing nothing is important for your mental health. Hopefully this song can make someone feel a little better the next time they take a day off," says Kalen Lander.

"I’m a firm believer in slowing down and taking your time. Days off are as crucial, if not more so, than the days spent working. Sometimes you need to do absolutely nothing. You deserve it. And “The Laziest Man in the World” wants you to be the best you can be."

Known for their frenetic and impressive live shows (numbering over a thousand now), 2023 saw the band tour relentlessly. As part of the LGBTQ community and with Bentley being a transgender artist, Snailmate inspires their listeners to be unapologetic and unashamed of who they are, having cultivated a fervent fanbase based on inclusivity and shows as a safe space for all genders and people of all sexualities.

Snailmate earlier released two full length albums - 'Live In Japan' (2019) and 'Love in the Microwave' (2017) - and a myriad of EPs and singles.

For Taking Back Sunday and two of their massive fans Sammi and Adam Seman, Friday, October 27, 2023, was a day they'll never forget.

The venerable rock band celebrated the release of their long-awaited new album 152 in a very special way, stunning the shocked newlyweds with a surprise performance before astonished family and friends at Trout Lake in Stroudsburg, PA.

It all started when the bride sent a DM to the band on August 30.

Touched by Sammi's message and inspired by the serendipitous timing, the band decided to hand-deliver a copy of their new album and make their big day even more unforgettable.

Watch as Taking Back Sunday make their surprise entrance and dedicate two fitting songs from the new album to the happy couple: "The One" and "I Am the Only One Who Knows You" HERE.

Huge thanks to the Maid of Honor, Amanda Lipowski, who helped make it happen under a shroud of maximum secrecy.

Sammi Seman on her special day and the big surprise:
"I knew my cousin and maid of honor, Amanda, had a surprise for me. Right before, my matron of honor, Shelby, tells me three of the groomsmen would be singing us a song. So, Amanda gets to the mic and announces the band Taking Back Sunday. Adam and I look at each other and say, 'Yeah, right' but then TBS actually walks in! And obviously, our reactions say it all. We were in shock and disbelief; we just couldn't believe they were actually here at our wedding singing two songs off their new album. They were amazing, as always, and so so nice. Adam even gave us some relationship advice! It was the perfect surprise to an already perfect day. They gave us flowers and their new record with a special message to us. It’s just so unbelievable and I believe Adam described it perfectly when he yelled, 'What is my life right now?!' Thank you, thank you, thank you, to everyone who had a hand in this, you truly made our wedding unforgettable."

Taking Back Sunday reflect on the wedding crash and how it came together:
"When we announced the release date of our new album 152, we received a very nice message on social media from the bride Sammi. She told us that she and her fiancé Adam were long time fans of our band and that their wedding was planned on the same day as our record release and how happy that made her. As luck would have it, we had planned tour rehearsals at a spot only two hours away from their wedding the very same week as the release and the wedding!

"Through some careful, secretive planning with our manager Jillian and the maid of honor Amanda we crashed the wedding. We arrived under the cover of night during speeches from the bride and groom’s friends and family and were whisked away into a room anxiously awaiting our introduction.

" We entered the beautiful reception room to loud cheers and could feel the love! We greeted Adam and Sammi with flowers, warm hugs, and a copy of our new album. Adam, John, and Nathan performed 'I Am the Only One Who Knows You,' and 'The One,' our two most complete love songs. The bride and groom sang and danced along. We took photos and said our goodbyes. It was truly a beautiful night and we're grateful we got to play a small part in it. We wish Sammi and Adam a long, happy, healthy life together filled with love and laughter. THE VELDT shares ‘Angel Heart’ single from 'Illuminated 1989' Robin Guthrie-produced album (out November 24)

Trailblazing American soul-influenced shoegazers The Veldt present their new single 'Angel Heart', previewing their 'Illuminated 1989' album, the original 1989 Robin Guthrie- produced recording of what was supposed to be their debut full-length record (before their label Capitol Records shelved these recordings).

In 1988, 'Angel Heart' was written for the original 'Marigolds' album sessions and when the band was originally sent back to the drawing table to record the 'Marigolds' album that was ultimately released, it was not included in the tracks recorded with Lincoln Fong in 1993.

Among first-wave shoegaze bands formed in the 1980s, North Carolina's The Veldt surrounds identical twins Daniel Chavis (vocals, guitar) and Danny Chavis (guitar), whose music is equally influenced by Cocteau Twins, Marvin Gaye, Sun Ra and Pharaoh Sanders. Referencing post-punk while embracing modern hip-hop, these trailblazers work with transient dreamscapes as fluidly as solid song structures.

Danny Chavis interprets 'Angel Heart' as follows: "The stellar sound you get when you see the universe expanding. When you feel hopelessness and melancholy and, of course, alone, there's always a meandering feeling of something that lifts you up and brings you down. We feel it as we get older, but were not alone. This is that sound."

This is the album's third single, following the lead track 'The Everlasting Gobstopper' and 'Aurora Borealis', where Elizabeth Fraser makes a cameo appearance on backing vocals. Complementing this is the B-side remix, created by The Veldt around the turn of the century.

Pitchfork included The Veldt's album 'Afrodisiac', produced by the legendary Ray Shulman (The Sundays, Bjork, The Sugarcubes) and released via Mercury Records, in the top 50 shoegaze albums ever released, while Stereogum included ‘Until You’re Forever’ in the top 31 shoegaze tracks. Their sound also inspired future generations of alternative artists, including TV On the Radio.

The brothers got their musical start via the church and southern juke-joints, under the influence of gospel, Motown and Pink Floyd. The Veldt initially signed with Mammoth Records before a chain of major-label relationships that saw the group tour the USA and Europe with Throwing Muses, Pixies, Cocteau Twins and Jesus & Mary Chain.

After moving from Raleigh to New York, they briefly performed as Apollo Heightsbefore reclaiming their original name The Veldt. Joined by Japanese bassist-programmer Hayato Nakao, they produce a heady and sensual blend of shoegaze and progressive soul. Some of the band's recent notable releases include 'The Shocking Fuzz Of Your Electric Fur' EP (2017) and 'Entropy is the Mainline to God' LP (2022).

Having collaborated with TV On The Radio, Mos Def, Lady Miss Kier (Deee-Lite), A.R.Kane over the years, The Veldt has also toured / played with Violent Femmes, Brian Jonestown Massacre, The Pixies, Throwing Muses, Echo & The Bunnymen, Cocteau Twins, Manic Street Preachers, Phantogram, Modern English, The Jesus and Mary Chain, Oasis, Chuck D, Living Colour and Schooly D.

'Angel Heart' is out across music platforms, such as Apple Music, Spotify and Bandcamp. On November 24, the 'Illuminated 1989' album will be released on vinyl, CD, cassette and digitally via Portland-based Little Cloud Records and 5BC Records. The Veldt is currently touring - from October through December, they're hitting many cities, performing at Levitation Festival (with The Dandy Warhols and The Black Angels) and at Seattle's KEXP.

Dead American, a four-piece rock group out of Southern California, have unveiled the video for new single "ADD."

"Lyrically, this song is about the difficulty of finding balance when your mind is moving a million miles an hour. Sometimes, I feel like I'd rather hold my breath than deal with the constant shuffle of thoughts in my head," says vocalist Cove Reber (ex-Saosin).

After two years of touring with acts like The Used, Beartooth, Pierce The Veil, Sleeping With Sirens, Scary Kids Scaring Kids, and others to support their debut album New Nostalgia, Dead American are prepping their sophomore album, produced by Joey Bradford of The Used. The release will double-down on the "new nostalgia" theme with the band pulling from a time even farther back and fundamental to the member's approach to songwriting. "ADD," which is the abbreviation for "attention deficit disorder," serves as the first taste of new music in advance of the band's forthcoming studio album. The new album, the details of which will be revealed in the months ahead, is slated for release in the first half of 2024.

Fresh off two recent North American tours serving as support for The Used, Dead American will be releasing more new music and additional information about their new album in the coming months, as well as a preparing to keep up a rigorous touring schedule throughout 2024.

Dead American debuted in 2018 with the desire to tap into the nostalgic sound of 2000s post-hardcore with their EP The Shape of Punk Is Dumb, a sound they expanded on with their first LP New Nostalgia, which is arrived via Velocity Records in 2022.

Indigenous black metal master Blackbraid will be taking the stage for its final performance of 2023 at Mexico Metal Fest, which takes place in Monterry (MX)! PARMALEE RELEASES NEW SINGLE “GONNA LOVE YOU” TO RADIO

After topping the charts earlier this month with “Girl In Mine,” Parmaleereturns with their new single “Gonna Love You” on Stoney Creek Records. The new song, from the Billboard Music Award finalists, begins the week as one of the most added new songs on country radio playlists everywhere.

As one of the more dynamic vocalists of the early ‘90s, NYC native Ray West’s defiant screams and guttural wails defined a generation of street metal-loving headbangers. With Spread Eagle, West aided in the creation of iconic anthems such as the tormented “Switchblade Serenade” and “Devil’s Road.” Like many of his era, West rode out a turbulent period, coming out on the other side wiser and more confident than ever. He had renewed vigor and enhanced melodicism. West sought to create his most personal music yet with his longtime friend and partner in musical crime bassist, songwriter, producer, and esteemed session musician Miguel Gonzalez. Both grew up in the Miami rock n roll scene and have deep roots to the area’s culture and vibe, which they are excited to infuse into this project.

The result of the collaboration is SupaFly’s The Vibe, which features revisited and remastered versions of tracks previously recorded, as well as new compositions. Brimming with heavy urban-power grooves, SupaFly represents an evolution for West and is perhaps his most personal songwriting to date. Landing ahead of the album release is a knock-down drag-out version of the KC and the Sunshine Band classic “I’m Your Boogie Man” with a SupaFly twist just in time for Halloween. So why this track? West explains, “Mig and I have always loved the idea of taking a song like ‘Boogie Man’ and putting it through the SupaFly machine. “Surprises always come up during writing — spontaneous ideas pull you into new territory and enable the realization of novel possibilities that previously were inaccessible.”

Such are the words from Horrendous drummer Jamie Knox when discussing the creation of the band’s fifth full-length, the highly anticipated 'Ontological Mysterium'. Knox’s quote also encapsulates Horrendous’s approach to extreme metal. Since 2009, the band has capably tapped into the inaccessible by providing a fresh, unconventional take on death metal that harnesses technical brilliance with elaborate, mind-melding melodies, frothy, spewing vocals and labyrinthine song structures. This combination has made each Horrendous long play a clinic in the gratifyingly unorthodox. The trend continues on Ontological Mysterium.

The follow-up to 2018’s Idol was recorded, mixed and mastered at Subterranean Watchtower Studios in Virginia, which doubles as the homestead of guitarist/vocalist Damian Herring. While the band (completed by guitarist/vocalist Matt Knox and bassist Alex Kulick) finished much of the songwriting for Ontological Mysterium in 2019, its recording was delayed by the 2020 global pandemic and various life events. Horrendous eventually finished recording in early 2022 and mastered the album before the start of 2023.

The album upholds Horrendous’s position as one of the underground’s best outside-of-the-box extreme metal bands. Having long abandoned concern whether people would appreciate their “uniqueness,” Horrendous has embraced its role as a band willing to veer far from death metal conventions, intentionally stretching and breaking norms. To wit, the band primarily views its music as filtered through a death metal lens. This may be Horrendous’s defining trait: By not accepting parameters, nothing is off-limits.

Recently, L.S. Dunes: vocalist Anthony Green, guitarist Frank Iero, bassist Tim Payne, guitarist Travis Stever, and drummer Tucker Rule announced the upcoming release of Lost Songs: Lines and Shapes, a raw and radically revealing version of their acclaimed debut album, 2022's Past Lives. It's due out on November 10.

Today, as a little taste of what's to come, the celebrated hardcore band has shared "Old Wounds" DEMO, a stripped-back version of the fan favorite released this past summer. While not included in the Lost Songs collection, the vulnerable and illuminating "Old Wounds" DEMO is another brilliant look into the creative process that features Green's beautifully exposed vocals and the haunting, intricate guitar work of Stever.

Stever says, "The original guitar part for 'Old Wounds' was conceived in the L.S. Dunes text thread. It was an old riff that I had never used. I stumbled on it and started working on it again and sent it in the middle of the night. Tim was the only one still awake… Tim had a positive response and showed enthusiasm, so I kept sending the riff ideas to him and he would give his opinion and notes. The next morning, I ran to my studio space and recorded the guitar parts. At this point, we had numerous instrumental ideas, and it was up to Anthony what songs we would choose for the desert sessions. He sent back the most beautiful and haunting vocals and lyrics to the guitar ideas that would become 'Old Wounds.' It then became clear that that would be one of the songs we needed to record."

The upcoming new album, Lost Songs: Lines and Shapes features early, stripped-down versions of all Past Lives' 11 tracks. Listening to these songs in their hyper-intense, original form provides a new, completely fresh view into Past Lives, while the uninitiated will appreciate it for what it is, a sterling artistic statement in its own right.

PROFILER - announce debut album 'A Digital Nowhere' + release video for 'All In Forever'

Alternative metal trio PROFILER have revealed the details of their debut album, A Digital Nowhere, that will be released on February 16th through SharpTone Records. To coincide with the announcement, the band have also released a video for the album's first single 'All In Forever'.

Vocalist and guitarist Mike Evans comments "I had a lot of fun writing this track. It’s actually the first track of the debut writing process. I think it creates a great follow up from our previous EP and continues our old sound, along with hinting what the debut encapsulates. I think it’s the perfect way to kick off A Digital Nowhere. I love the groove and bouncy riffs and I hope our fans enjoy the evolution of our sound."

Today the 70s band Kelakos returns – 45 years after its last studio recordings -- with the first pre-release from the forthcoming 12-song album HURTLING TOWARDS EXTINCTION. Lead singer / lead guitarist George Kelakos Haberstroh is back with a charismatic voice long-time Kelakos fans will instantly recognize, along with edgy lyrics and tasty guitar licks burning with intensity.

The band’s remixed, remastered 70s catalogue, a 15-track CD released in 2015 as KELAKOS UNCORKED: RARE TRACKS FROM A VINTAGE 70s BAND, gained recognition and critical praise 37 years after their 1978 album GONE ARE THE DAYS. “Best Boston Band You’ve Never Heard” (CBS Boston Classic 1007WZLX) and “One of 2015’s Top New Music Re-Issues (Phil’s Picks) were among many strong reviews; Goldmine gave the release 4 stars. Triumph Of Death’s debut live release Resurrection Of The Flesh is the culmination of three concerts. Recorded in the spring of 2023 at Hell’s Heroes Festival in Houston USA, Dark Easter Metal Meeting in Munich, Germany and SWR Barroselas Metal Fest in Portugal, the album was produced by Tom Gabriel Warrior and Triptykon's V. Santura. The record captures the band at their primeval finest; raw, foreboding and heavy.
