Speaking on today's release, RAS-1 shares

“I wanted this video to pay respect and love for my dad. I didn’t want it to be your average lyric video. My dad was a very charming, funny man and an excellent father. RIP Richard Smith.”

Produced and co-written by Fat Mike of NOFX, the track also appeared on the recent 'Bottle Music For Broken People' label compilation alongside new music from Fishbone, Codefendants, Melvinator, The Meffs, The Skints and more (listen here). ABOUT RAS-1

RAS-1 (Richard Arthur Smith) is a singer, songwriter, guitarist, and visual artist. RAS-1 was an original member of LONG BEACH DUB ALL STARS, the band co-founded in 1996 by SUBLIME’S bassist and drummer, Eric Wilson and Bud Gaugh, after the untimely passing of Sublime frontman Bradley Nowell.

RAS-1 became a principal member of the collective on both guitar and lead vocals, while penning many of the LBDA classics including his signature first single “Trailer RAS” and the hit “SUNNY HOURS” featuring WILL.I.AM of the multi-platinum hip-hop superstars BLACK EYED PEAS. These tracks, in addition to other fan favorites including “Rolled Up” and “Rosarito” from the LB DUB albums 'Right Back' (1998) and 'Wonders of the World' (2001), were released as one of the first artists and earliest album collections on David Geffen’s newly formed Dreamworks label.

Born and raised in North Town Long Beach to musical parents, RAS‘s mother, Dora Gail Smith sang for the all-girl Long Beach Jazz Quintet, DREAM. His father, Richard Smith was also known to play guitar while supporting his family working for the Union Pacific Railroad. RAS-1 began his musical career as a teenager in a band THE GRIFFIN with his songwriting cousin, J-Sun, who currently plays with STONEWING. JAH CHILDREN was RAS-1’s next original band, often playing on the same bill as SUBLIME at Long Beach backyard parties and punk rock clubs. A membership in local thrashers ALL DAY followed featuring PENNYWISE alumni Randy Bradbury and cohort Paul McFadden. RAS-1 additionally sang and played lead and rhythm guitar in SHORTBUS, a side project with SUBLIME’S bassist Eric Wilson, guitarist Trey Pangborn of FALLING IDOLS.

For 2 decades RAS-1 has maintained his own style while collaborating with legends along the way and is respected in the California reggae-jam scene as an architect of both the style and sound stemming from Southern California’s vibrant musical subculture.

RAS-1’s visual art is highly stylized Southern California cool. RAS-1 finds ZEN through the medium of paint and is often commissioned for custom work with various well-known brands and entities to design skateboards and other essential gear.

NOW, RAS-1 returns as a SOLO ARTIST with a full band. After RAS-1 father’s passing, and with deepening health issues of his own, RAS-1 began a profound journey of self-discovery culminating in the poignant and honest requiem “Take me Home”.

A brand new album is in the works with the finishing touches being applied to an EP of new material including “Not Sorry At All” and “California Radio,” which were recently debuted during his high profile comeback slot on the inaugural CaliVibes Festival (Feb 2022). RAS-1’s unique songwriting and gritty authenticity brings it back to that original roughneck Long Beach reggae sound with an eye and ear towards the future.

RAS-1 is back, and his soul and his sound are healthier than ever!

As a Pandora 2023 Artist to Watch, an Amazon Music 2023 Breakthrough Artist to Watch: Country Class and a member of CMT’s LISTEN UP 2023 Class, Dalton Dover continues to reach new career milestones with the debut of his first single via UMG Nashville/ Mercury Records, as “Giving Up On That” is the most added song at Country radio with 60 first week stations, along with fans streaming the song and garnering over 1 million streams in the first two weeks of its release.

“To have this much support on my first official single is such an incredible feeling,” shares Dover. “Thank you to my team for believing in me and this song and thank you to Country radio for your excitement and enthusiasm. This is definitely a week I’ll never forget!”

Written by Dover with Adam Craig and Josh Pierce, “Giving Up On That” showcases Dover’s sharp vocals as he pleads with a long-gone lover, recounting his previous screw-ups and outlining the steps he’s taken to prove his loyalty and his desire to try again, as Country Now lauds “Dalton Dover is off to a roaring start in 2023,” with The Boot praising, “this heartbreak track has all the makings of a country radio hit,” while MusicRow boasts, “This power ballad of regret and yearning gives him a super showcase for his dynamic, whisper-to-a-scream vocal ability. A solid winner. Make this man a star.”

This week, Dover prepares to make his international debut at C2C: Country to Country Festival’s CMA Songwriters Series before joining Chase Rice on the Way Down Yonder Tour in April. This summer, the Georgia native will perform at the 50th Anniversary of CMA Fest at Nissan Stadium’s Platform Stage and Chevy Vibes Stage. Dover honed his captivating live show last year with two performances at CMA Fest, opening for Luke Comb’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium show in Atlanta, Ga. and joining Priscilla Block’s Welcome To The Block Party Tour.

After being named a Spotify 2022 Artist to Watch, he released “Hear About A Girl,” earning praise from Billboardnoting, “Dover’s voice is both intimate and commanding on this track,” while MusicRow asserts it confirms “we’re in the presence of a master country talent when this man sings…Make him a star. Now.” He followed the song with “Damn Good Life,” with The Boot sharing, “Dover is savoring every moment in his uplifting new single,” while Country Now observes, “Between the optimistic narrative that Dover delivers through his crisp vocals and the carefree tune highlighted by the impressive guitar strum, nothing but a good time can be had when this song comes through the speakers.”

In addition to a deal with UMG Nashville, Dover has signed with Sony Music Publishing in partnership with Droptine Music Publishing along with United Talent Agency.

About Dalton Dover
Lauded by MusicRow as a “master country talent,” Dalton Dover’s current single “Giving Up On That” via UMG Nashville/Mercury Records was the most-added track at Country Radio upon its debut with 60 first week adds and garnered over 1 million streams in the first two weeks of its release. Named a Pandora 2023 Artist to Watch, an Amazon Music 2023 Breakthrough Artist to Watch: Country Class and a member of CMT’s LISTEN UP 2023 Class, he will make his international debut in March at C2C: Country to Country Festival’s CMA Songwriters Series before joining Chase Rice on the Way Down Yonder Tour in April. Dover first started singing at church as a kid, winning his fifth-grade school talent show performing Justin Bieber’s “Baby.” In that moment Dover’s love of performing was born. By the age of 16 he had picked up a guitar and started teaching himself to play, yet it was his grandfather who turned him on to country music and artists such as Keith Whitley, Rhett Akins, Joe Diffie and Steve Wariner. Performances at local bars soon followed along with sharing covers of some of his favorite songs on TikTok. It was there he caught the ear of producer Matt McV and A&R veteran and founder of Droptine, Jim Catino, who quickly signed Dover. His debut track “You Got a Small Town,” produced by McV, quickly garnered critical acclaim from Billboard, MusicRow, Country Now and Wide Open Country. With his debut and his follow-up “Baby I Am” earning notable playlisting, Dover was named a Spotify Hot Country 2022 Artist to Watch along with a spotlight as Billboard’s February Country Rookie of the Month and a nod for MusicRow’s 2022 Discovery Artist of the Year. After opening for Luke Comb’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium show in Atlanta, Ga., Dover set out on a seven-date run of his own headlining shows, performing across multiple locations of Blake Shelton’s Ole Red, followed by Priscilla Block’s Welcome To The Block Party and his debut at the Grand Ole Opry. MULTI-INSTRUMENTALIST JULIAN CALV RELEASES SECOND SINGLE, “THORN AND ROOTS,”

Julian Calv was a music major recently graduated from Moravian University in Bethlehem, PA. He now resides in the art community of Woodstock, VT. Calv can occasionally be seen on Church Street in Burlington, VT, busking much in the way Moondog, aka the Viking of Sixth Avenue, had done in NYC during the 50’s and 60’s.

Calv studied the avant-garde composer’s music, and as a musician, Moondog was the total package. His strong rhythmic and contrapuntal pieces later influenced composers of minimal music such as Steve Reich and Philip Glass. Moondog invented several musical instruments, in particular the trimba.

Calv has even built his own one-of-a-kind trimba, going to great lengths to travel to Sweden and Germany to meet with fellow Moondog aficionados and study the design of the instrument. Calv is now creating his own percussion-based compositions in a style reminiscent of the late composer’s. With his first release, “Route 4,” getting picked up on multiple Spotify playlists, Calv is now ready to release “Thorn and Roots.”  As he states, “ ‘Thorn and Roots’ is a fast-paced musical impression based on an improvised melody performed in front of a juice bar having the same name. The trimba and balafon play in tandem with one another, creating a percussive flurry in perpetual motion.

Listen to “Thorn and Roots” here: ADA.lnk.to/ThornandRoots

There will be a Limited Edition 7” vinyl single of “Route 4” and “Thorn and Roots” released on May 5. If you are in Burlington, VT, be sure to catch Calv as he makes regular appearances on Sundays near Church Street. If you can’t, be sure to follow him on his socials to catch some of his performances!

You can preorder the Limited Edition (only 250 printed) 7” single and limited bundles here: https://bit.ly/JulianCalv

Tigirlily Gold Arrive with "Shoot Tequila" as Second Most-Added at Country Radio

Monument Records’ sister duo Tigirlily Gold has officially arrived at country radio this week with their debut single, “Shoot Tequila,” impacting yesterday (March 6). The single, which has already seen tremendous success with over 40 million views across social platforms, is the second-most-added single at country radio, tied with Morgan Wallen’s “Last Night.” Listen HERE.

With 48 stations playing the song on rotation, “Shoot Tequila” marks a triumphant radio debut for the girls from North Dakota who honed their craft grinding away on Nashville’s Lower Broadway for more than three years.

Written by the sisters alongside Better Than Ezra's Kevin Griffin and David Mescon, and produced by Pete Good and Shane McAnally, the upbeat party anthem is reminiscent of the push and pull of a toxic relationship, nodding to the irresistible temptation of caving to the “bad influence” of a tequila-induced night. The music video is available now, HERE.

“Shoot Tequila” is the first taste of new music from the duo as they embark on a new musical chapter with their upcoming project. Ready to bring girl group energy back to country music, stay tuned for more from Tigirlily Gold throughout 2023. For the latest information visit, tigirlily.com  and follow along on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook @tigirlily and on TikTok @TigirlilyGold.

About Tigirlily Gold:
Sister duo Tigirlily Gold has been playing music together since they could walk, and officially formed their band in high school. Growing up, they crisscrossed the mid-west, growing a fierce fan base and selling out amphitheaters across their home-state of North Dakota. After moving to Nashville, they landed a weekly residence at Dierks Bentley’s Whiskey Row on Nashville’s famed lower Broadway. Playing four-hour sets, three to four nights a week, the sisters developed a performance style that’s not only captivating and fun but shows just how much entertaining is in their blood.

After releasing their original song “Somebody Does,” in 2021, the track topped the iTunes chart and Tigirlily Gold was signed to Monument Records. They released their self-titled, debut EP in July 2021, working with multi-Grammy Award Winner Shane McAnally, and hit the road with artists Walker Hayes and Ashley McBryde.

German black metal experimentalists DER WEG EINER FREIHEIT are now releasing a brand new live video for the song "Am Rande der Dunkelheit,"which was recorded during their recent European headlining tour with label mates REGARDE LES HOMMES TOMBER and BIZARREKULT in September 2022. The first show will take place on March 9 in Tilburg (NL) and rage through the main continent for more than a month until the final curtain in Groningen (NL) on April 13.

The band comments: "After having recharged our batteries over the past few months we are now ready to embark on our biggest tour we have done so far starting Thursday this week at O13 Tilburg in The Netherlands. On this tour we're playing 29 shows in 16 different countries including our first shows ever in Lithuania, Finland and Sweden! If you don't know what to expect, here's one of the songs we will be playing on the upcoming tour, recorded live on our last headline-run through Europe in September and October 2022. Progressive, avant-garde black metal experimentalists DER WEG EINER FREIHEIT have never stopped smashing through the boundaries of the genre they’ve called home since forming in early 2009. And with 2021 welcoming the release of fifth album, Noktvrn, the Germans are looking to expand the minds and perspectives of their ever-increasing fanbase, similar to how they pushed themselves in every element of the new album’s creation. Ironically, supporters being able to pay witness to the leaps and bounds the band has made over the course of 12 years, five albums and one EP and live recordings should count themselves lucky for being able to do so.

DER WEG EINER FREIHEIT may have existed and thrived over the course of that time, but forging on beyond its self-titled debut wasn’t part of guitarist/vocalist/mastermind Nikita Kamprad’s original plan.

Formed out of the ashes of black metal quartet FROSTGRIM and good time-lovin’ melodic deathcore posse, FUCK YOUR SHADOW FROM BEHIND, Kamprad and original vocalist Tobias Jaschinsky founded DER WEG EINER FREIHEITas an expression of both their love of black metal and the search for liberation through art, as evidenced by taking the idea of their moniker — which translates to ‘The Way of Freedom’ — to heart.

“FROSTGRIM could be seen as the direct predecessor to DER WEG EINER FREIHEIT,” says Kamprad, from his studio in Würzburg, in the state of Bavaria, “because it was Tobias, our former singer, and I. We had this black metal band together when we also had FUCK YOUR SHADOW FROM BEHIND. We were a part of both bands and when they split up, there was nothing left. For me, black metal was always the most important musical genre where I could see myself doing music. So, I created songs for myself and basically they became the first DER WEG EINER FREIHEIT album. It is officially self-titled, but it actually doesn’t have a title. It’s just Der Weg einer Freiheit because initially after I wrote and released that first album, the band was supposed to be over. But the feedback from friends, fans and the press was so immense and so many people wanted to see the band live and to see it continue, in the end, I was like ‘why not?’ There was no reason why I couldn’t go on with new stuff.”

Originally self-released, the debut was picked up by Viva Hate Records who then issued follow-ups in the form of the Agonie EP and second full-length, Unstille which were supported via appearances at name festivals such as Summer Breeze Open Air and Wolfszeit Festival as well as on European tours opening for the likes of WOLVES IN THE THRONE ROOM, THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER, NEAERA. 2014 had DER WEG EINER FREIHEIT joining forces with Season of Mist for third album, Stellar which was issued a few months later in March of 2015.

With the label and a groundswell of support behind them, the band’s star continued to rise in Stellar’s shadow with showings at Wacken Open Air, Hellfest and Roadburn, a tour in support of MOONSPELL and their first headlining runs. 2017 saw the release of album number four, Finisterre, which continued the steady growth of the band’s profile. In addition to drawing bigger crowds at festivals and on tours, they ventured overseas for the first time, playing in Japan and Iceland.

“I was doing music for six or seven years when I started DER WEG EINER FREIHEIT and I was always in bands that would meet up and write in a rehearsal space, but I always wanted to have my own band. I had the opportunity to do my own thing and that’s why this band is called DER WEG EINER FREIHEIT because it’s basically about my way of achieving my own freedom. For some people that way is through sport or cooking or writing; for me, it was about writing music and lyrics.”

Twelve years on, Kamprad is taking advantage of the freedoms afforded to him as he strives to personify the band’s titular expression. Being joined by drummer Tobias Schuler, bassist Nicolas Ziska and guitarist Nicolas Rausch has made DER WEG EINER FREIHEIT more a unit than ever and allowed Kamprad to feel comfortable relinquishing his steely grip on the band’s creative reins during the writing process which began in late 2019 and was completed by September of 2020. This has allowed for vast differences in Noktvrn’s creation that have expanded the album’s overall breadth beyond black metal and extreme music to incorporate the influence and inspiration of classical composer Frédéric Chopin’s Nocturnes, his series of 21 so-called “night pieces.” This, in turn, birthed the album’s artistic mandate requiring that material only be created during the wee hours.

“I always wanted to do an album about the night and dreams and I’m really, really big fan of Chopin and his night pieces in general. For me, it made sense that this album should have a title that connects with this theme. To the left of me right now is a piano and some of Chopin’s sheet music for the Nocturnes. One day I probably looked at it and wanted to pay tribute to this great composer. That’s why we chose to write the title a little bit differently with the ‘k’ instead of a ‘c’ and a ‘v’ instead of a ‘u’ to make it more special. We also chose the ‘v’ in particular because it’s our fifth album and that’s the Roman numeral for five. It’s just something special we did with the name, even though we weren’t sure at first about the lettering because it can be seen as generic, especially in black metal. We have reasons that are deeper than what you see on the surface; not because we want to be ‘true’ — or ‘trve’ — or something,” he explains with a laugh.

The Chopin and classical music influences on Noktvrn are much more than surface cosmetics. Lilting acoustic guitar piece ‘Finisterre II’ opens the album. Jericho-like horns are the bleating accent to the proggy black metal of ‘Monument.’ Baroque arpeggiation familiar to the tuxedo-and-coat tails crowd are spiralled around Oslo’s Helvete shop in ‘Morgen.’ There are also tendrils of folk, shoegaze and indie rock that make brief and appropriate appearances, but it’s the night-time theme that runs deep as Kamprad discovered early on in the writing process.

“‘Immortal’ was one of the first songs I wrote for the album and it was really, really weird because I wrote the song when it was very, very late when I fell into a night-time rhythm that was not my usual rhythm. Here, I felt I was having different kinds of dreams and thoughts. Sometimes I’d be half-awake, half-asleep and not really aware of what my real state of mind was. That was an experience that made me think about giving the entire album the nocturnal or night theme. I’m a very passionate sleeper; I love sleeping and dreaming and dreams are important to me because there’s a freedom in them. In this night rhythm, my head was in a different state and I wanted to create in this state because it was something different for me.”

Lyrically, Noktvrn has Kamprad taking enormous steps outside what has become his regular modus operandi since he took over the mic following Jaschinsky’s departure in 2012. The new album has him expanding his reach beyond not only his usual collection of personal thoughts and mother tongue, but also the style and texture with which he would previously deliver his meanings, ideas, and recollections.

“Usually, the lyrics have mainly been about myself, but on this album there were two events in the last two or three years connected to anxiety attacks. I haven’t experienced them myself, but a couple people who are very close to me have. The lyrics for the song ‘Am Rande der Dunkelheit’ are based around these people’s experiences and them telling me how they felt in a situation where they think they can’t breathe, that they think they’re dying and their life is coming to an end. I tried to imagine through the lyrics how they might have felt. I was trying to find my own words to describe the experience while trying to describe it if I had lived it myself.

“Another completely new thing on this album are the songs ‘Immortal’ and ‘Haven’ which are in English, which we’ve never done before. I always wanted to sing in English ever since I took over the vocals. Singing is the most direct musical expression I feel. Playing guitar is cool, but singing is even more my thing and I always want to push the boundaries so I implemented clean singing as well but, for me, doing clean vocals is very uncomfortable and difficult in German. I think singing clean vocals in English sounds nicer because German is a hard language which fits the harsh vocals perfectly. I wanted to try it out to see how it felt, and surprise, surprise, it felt great! I really like it and imagine there will be more English lyrics in the future.”

Barring a pair of live albums, all previous DER WEG EINER FREIHEITreleases were created almost entirely from the ground up by Kamprad. He would write the songs on his own and do the bass, guitar and vocal tracks himself with Schuler playing drums while engineering, producing and mixing along the way. Kamprad may still be the songwriter-in-chief who produced and mixed Noktvrn (with assistance from Jan Kerscher), but this album makes a significant developmental step as it not only welcomes song writing contributions from the other members, but has the band ably demonstrating their ability by recording live off the floor.

“The new album is the most natural sounding DER WEG EINER FREIHEITalbum,” he says excitedly, “not only the sound, but the riffing and because we recorded the songs live. Music today, especially metal, can be too difficult and technical for bands to even play and record their own songs from start to finish. For me it was very important during the song writing to focus on playing the songs all the way through without stopping. That created a very natural flow through the songs and throughout the whole album. Also, it was a new thing that the whole band was involved in the whole recording process and the last stages of the song writing. Writing and recording mainly by myself was a very exhausting and streamlined process that I liked at some points, but after Finisterre I couldn’t do that anymore and had to change something.

“I still wrote the songs here in my studio then showed them to the others,” he explains. “Then, we met up for rehearsal and pre-production and played through the songs, recorded them and really analysed all the small details, the iteration of parts, the transitions, the guitar sound, the drum beats and everything, even the cymbal hits! What came out were still my songs, but with all kinds of input from the guys. They’re the same songs, but going over all the details brings them to another level. When we entered the studio all we had to do was focus on playing and nothing else because everything was settled already. That was a new and very good experience for us as a band.”

All of the above makes Noktvrn a beacon of musical forward thought, drastic jumps and transformative risks. In his soft-spoken humble manner, Kamprad laughs at the idea that DER WEG EINER FREIHEIT is little more than a personal expression vehicle; instead, he refers to the band as “a very professional hobby,” while downplaying what makes these black metal mavericks entirely special.

“Maybe what is the special thing about us is that we never stopped. Since the beginning, we haven’t taken a break and we’ve always tried to be present with tours and shows and festivals, so there was never a break.”

Discrepancies Release New Single "Recovery"; Announce Tour Dates for this Spring!

"Recovery" can be streamed/downloaded at:

WATCH Discrepancies - Recovery (Official Music Video):

Discrepancies released their new single "Recovery," from their forthcoming EP Product Of Entertainment, on February 17th along with the official music video via InVogue Records. The single is already doing well on streaming platforms and radio. The band announced a handful of dates with Until I Wake and a tour this spring with Outline in Color and VRSTY in support.

"'Recovery' is kind of an extention of "Not Alone" in a way. Or maybe a more specific version. Not only letting the listener know they are not alone but also offering details of others walking through the same darkness and finding their way out," says the band's vocalist Antonio Metcalf.

Discrepancies, the Rap/Rock band out of St. Louis, have formed an undeniably powerful and innovative sound. Comprised of Garrett Weakley (Bass), Addison Bracher (Guitar/vocals), Brandon Bollinger (Guitar/vocals), Marc Lyle (Drums), and Antonio Metcalf (Vocals) they have formed a unique take on Rap/Rock incorporating heavy riffs with intense lyricism. The 5 blend together many genres to create an innovative soundscape that is guaranteed to grab your interest.

In January 2018, Discrepancies signed to InVogue Records. They released “The Awakening” in March of 2018 and had over a million streams in the first week. Discrepancies promoted their release of The Awakening through 2019, playing multiple runs and festivals such as: Rock USA 2019, select dates with Sevendust, Story of The Year, Metal In The Mountains, and more.

In January of 2020, the band released “Control" from their 2nd LP, The Rise. That track now has over 3 Million views and streams and continues to grow. The band released 4 more singles, riding the wave through the unfortunate 2020 global pandemic.

Together, Discrepancies want to connect with people on a deep level and allow for people to be inspired to form their own opinions free from judgement, from the lyrics of their music.

DEREK SHERINIAN WINS BURRN! MAGAZINE BEST KEYBOARDIST AWARD AGAIN

Keyboardist Derek Sherinian  was recently named “Best Keyboardist” in Japan’s BURRN! Magazine 2022 Readers Poll (an award he also received previously, in 2020).

Derek was also voted “Greatest Keyboardist of the 21st Century” and  #8 “Greatest of All Time” by MusicRadar.com, and also was ranked #9 “Greatest of All Time” in PROG Magazine.

Sherinian has distinguished himself by his versatility, and aggressive "guitaristic" approach to his signature keyboard style. MusicRadar.com declared, "His virtuoso playing has seen him dubbed the keyboard-playing version of Eddie Van Halen." David Coverdale claims that “Derek plays the Hammond organ like the son of Jon Lord.”

Starting his pro career with Alice Cooper in 1989 on the “Trashes the World” world tour, Sherinian proceeded to tour and record with KISS, Dream Theater, Yngwie Malmsteen, Billy Idol  and Whitesnake. He has also released nine solo albums, and was the co-founder of Planet X,  Sons of Apollo, and supergroup Black Country Communion (also featuring Joe Bonamassa, Glenn Hughes, and Jason Bonham), who will be recording a new album this Summer.

Also, a Sherinian/Phillips live album with drum legend Simon Phillips will be released this fall on InsideOut/Sony Music.

Here is the video for “Scorpion” off Sherinian's 2022 solo album ‘Vortex’

BLACK LAVA Shares New Live Video for "Baptised in Ice"

Emerging blackened death metal quartet BLACK LAVA (ft. members of VIPASSI, ex-NE OBLIVISCARIS, AMDBL, HADAL MAW, etc.) is now sharing a brand new live video for their performance of the song "Baptised in Ice!" The song is taken from the band's debut opus, 'Soul Furnace,' and can be seen below.

'Soul Furnace' was released in November 2022 via Season of Mist and landed coveted chart placements for the Australian Independent Record Labels Association, debuting at #2 on the 100% Independent Albums chart  and #4 on the Independent Label Albums chart! Additionally, 'Soul Furnace' was named among Sick Drummer Magazine's "Favorite Drumming Albums of 2022!"

'Soul Furnace' can be streamed, downloaded, and ordered HERE.

During the turbulent and uncertain years of 2020-2021, perhaps none were plunged deeper into darkness than those from down under as Australia imposed some of the strictest, harshest, and most devastating lockdown measures in the world, forcing their civilians into years of isolation. However, through solitude and desolation, some of the greatest art is created, as is the case with BLACK LAVA, the emerging blackened death metal quartet from Melbourne (AU). Founded by drummer Dan Presland (Vipassi, AMDBL, ex-Ne Obliviscaris) and guitarist Ben Boyle (Vipassi, AMDBL, Hadal Maw), BLACK LAVA draws influence from old school death and black metal bands while injecting groove-laden melodies and progressive elements to create their own experimental sound.

“The idea came about from just pure frustration of the situation at hand during 2020/2021,” explains Presland of the band’s formation. “Ben and I live locally together, and in the beginning of the pandemic, I built a working studio, so we got together to just initially jam to release some frustrations and vent some music around the second half of 2021. We had a pretty casual jam together and Ben came back with a few fleshed out ideas a few days later.” As the ideas started to come to fruition, the duo quickly realized that the project had more potential than just a jam session. “Both of us were really into the direction Ben pushed,” continues Presland, “and it was something pretty new to both of us - we have worked together quite extensively over the years within music, playing in several bands together (Vipassi, AMDBL, Aphotic Dawn and more) - so to go in a totally new direction was pretty refreshing.”

As the pair fleshed out more ideas, they turned to their good friend Rob Watkins of Blackhelm to fulfill vocal duties. “Within 10 minutes we had found a vocalist and the search for a bassist was on. Tim Anderson (Blackhelm) was found pretty quickly and was keen to jump on board the idea also, so within a very short time frame we had a full lineup, a record ready to go, and 4 guys full of enthusiasm to push something new.”

Sharing a diverse love for black metal, death metal, and progressive music, the quartet quickly found their sound and hit a stride. And thus, Soul Furnace was born - a searing 34-minute aural assault that conjures up nostalgia while still sounding fresh and current. While the record promises to usher in a new musical era of the 2020s with its forward-thinking and contemporary energy, the lyrics dwell somewhere between fantasy and the old world.

“In the world of Black Lava, the lyrics are set in a time and world long gone and forgotten, mostly made up of fantasy and a medieval theme, fitting for the realms of our style of music,” explains vocalist Rob Watkins of the album’s themes and inspirations. “We draw inspiration from the natural environment and mother nature, ancient witchcraft and the glory of warriors in battle. I picture Black Lava as visiting an ancient beast in a cave giving you a chance to escape the outside world through its tales and mythology.”

With a new deal with Season of Mist and a team of some of the music industry’s most revered artists, producers, engineers, and professionals behind them to help render their vision, Black Lava is ready to make its debut and unleash its fury upon the masses.

BLACK MARKET KARMA presents 'Heady Ideas (Joakim Åhlund Remix)' from loaded 'Friends In Noise' LP

New album features Tess Parks, The Underground Youth, Les Big Byrd & The Confederate Dead

"Emotive, tender and nostalgic...an intriguing and evocative release that effortlessly demonstrates Stan Belton's spectacular composing skills" ~ Clash Magazine

"A delight, immediately pleasing the ears with catchy caresses of Belton’s guitar, warmly inviting the listener to soak in a magnetically psychedelic gaze... positively contagious" The Spill Magazine

"Impressive and singular, yet filled with easy and accessible appeal... making music without following fad or fashion" The Record Stache

"Their psychedelic vision goes well beyond the influential underpinnings of 60s rock, presenting a kaleidoscopic array of sonic threads woven together into the fabulous tapestry" Amplify Music Magazine

London psychedelic pop artist Black Market Karma presents 'Heady Ideas', a fan favourite, sonically reshaped by Swedish cosmic mastermind Joakim Åhlund of Les Big Byrd and also known for his work with Caesars, Smile and Teddy Bears.

Packed with slamming breakbeats, analogue filters and krauty synths, this track is on the band's eleventh full-length album 'Friends In Noise', a collaborative album rooted in friendship. Following 2022's ‘Aped Flair & Hijacked Ideas' LP, the new record was recorded over nine years and released via London boutique label Flower Power Records.

Revolving around songwriter Stanley Belton, Black Market Karma colourized this world with a carousel of jingle jangle and distorted wobble with flavours of psychedelia, fuzzed out tones and thumping grooves. With a thick and colourful sound channelled through vintage equipment, their music is rooted in 60's guitar and pop music, other influences include folk, blues, lo-fi electronica, alt pop and soul.

“This remix is one of the earlier contributions to Friends In Noise. We’d just returned from a short tour of Ireland alongside Jocke’s (Joakim Ahlund) band Les Big Byrdwhen he dropped me a message one night saying “fancy a remix? My answer was an immediate yes because I knew he’d do something cosmic to it,” says Stanley Belton.

"He was digging the then brand new ‘Heady Ideas’ (sort of a BMK classic these days) so I sent him the audio files and he sent me back this absolutely slammin’ remix with a heavy break beat and these arpeggiating synths. I dug it big time and in return I did my own remix of their song ‘War In The Streets’, which also ended up on the record".

Earlier, Black Market Karma released 'The Sky Was All Diseased' with iconic vocalist Tess Parks and 'Aping Flair' with Ruari Meehan (Tess Parks & Anton Newcombe and Belakiss). This album also involves The Underground Youth and The Confederate DeadMore recently, Stan completed a collaboration with Pete Kember (a.k.a. Sonic Boom) of Spacemen 3, which will be released in spring 2023.

“I loved that tune from the first time I heard it. Reminds me of a Tibetan death chant. Same chord all the way through and that nice droney vocal. I put some quite heavy, almost military marching band drums on it and then put it all through an anologue filter I had back then but lost when I moved studios. Wish I still had that, sounds pretty brilliant to me. That fast arpeggio is a Juno 60. Nice," says Joakim Åhlund.

'Friends In Noise' is out now everywhere digitally, including Apple MusicSpotify and Bandcamp. It can also be ordered on 180-gram coloured vinyl, along with their latest 'Aped Flair & Hijacked Ideas' LP. Having recently wrapped up tour dates with The Black Angels, the band continues touring throughout March. Tickets can be ordered here.

Tenille Townes & Bryan Adams Debut Official Music Video for "The Thing That Wrecks Me"

Just ten days after debuting their riveting duet “The Thing That Wrecks You,” Tenille Townes and Bryan Adams deliver the official music video, available everywhere now. Watch it below.

“The Thing That Wrecks You” arrived Feb. 24 with Billboard noting it “winningly teams Townes’ tender-yet-sturdy vocal with… Adams’ whispery rasp” and Music Row applauding it as “an essential listening experience.” The coinciding music video was directed by Adams and features the two running hastily toward each other through a dimly lit tunnel, knowing they’re bound to collide.

On the opportunity to team up with Adams for the project, which was born from a chance encounter in a stairway, Townes shares: “From a Fed-Ex letter to travelling across a loading dock in a music video, this whole adventure has been insane! Bryan Adams directed ‘The Thing That Wrecks You’ music video and it was amazing working with him in this experience.”

Just shy of four minutes, the driving track produced by Townes and her band’s guitarist, Jaxon Hargrove, was recorded with her touring band joining her in-studio as well as with Adams adding his own guitar prowess to the song alongside his vocals.

The song offers a preview at new music from Townes, whose most recent project, Masquerades, was released in April 2022 via Columbia Nashville/Sony Music Nashville in partnership with RCA Records. The project was named album of the Year at the 2022 CCMA Awards and is nominated for Country Album of the Year at the 2023 JUNO Awards, where Townes will also perform.

Fans can catch her on the road this summer on her SIDE A + B TOUR, plus major festivals such as Cavendish Beach Music Festival, Faster Horses Festival, Watershed Festival and more.

The day after delighting and inviting fans to celebrate his new album with a one-night-only stripped-back album release celebration —resulting in fans flooding the streets of Nashville’s Lower Broadway, distributing all available tickets in just three hours — Morgan Wallen was all smiles last night as his new album, One Thing At A Time, premiered to record demand.

Fans from around the world joined as he shared a lot of stories with a lot of the new music being played for the first time to a crowd of 19,292 in-person attendees, a record setting all-time attendance for the arena according to EVP of Entertainment and Venues David Kells. With an underlying sense of gratitude from both the artist and fans, it was an “only in Nashville” kind of evening.

Ahead of the heartfelt “Keith Whitley” Wallen shared the singer’s impact on his own life and career. “Keith Whitley is one of my favorite artists of all time. I always felt he died too young and had a whole lot more magic left in him…this is one of my favorite songs on this record.”

Later in the 22-song set, Wallen dedicated “Dying Man” to his son: “In 'Dying Man,' I’m singing to a woman. In real life, this song is dedicated to my son. He has changed everything for me and has been a real blessing. He’s here tonight, so I’m sending this song out to him.”

Pausing and even crouching at the edge of the stage — oftentimes stepping over the monitors to get as close to the crowd as possible — made the unique-to-this-night 360 stage even more memorable.

Friday night’s free show arrives just days before Wallen launches his One Night At A Time World Tour, kicking off overseas on March 15.

With 63 shows and 30 stadium-plays ahead, his words could’ve been about the last few years or the last 36 hours since announcing the show: “I know how much my fans mean to me, but I just want to say it out loud. You guys are truly remarkable. Thank you for coming out for this free show on such short notice. I hope you're having as much fun as I am.”

 ABOUT MORGAN WALLEN
Hailed by Billboard for making “his superstar arrival as a touring artist” in 2022, Morgan Wallen recently wrapped his record-shattering 55-show Dangerous Tour with his first headlining stadium show at Globe Life Field in Arlington, TX, which saw him shatter attendance records previously held by Elton John and Lady Gaga. Now, the CMA Entertainer of the Year nominee who broke records in 30 venues across the country - with the only country tour nominated for Pollstar’s Major Tour of the Year - will embark on a massive world tour in 2023. Spanning 30 stadium shows across 4 countries and 2 continents, plus arenas, amphitheaters and festivals, Wallen’s 63-show 2023 One Night At A Time World Tour will deliver the man The New Yorker dubbed as “the most wanted man in country” to fans worldwide.

With over 13.6 billion on-demand streams and eight chart-toppers at Country radio, the East Tennessean’s latest hit to top the charts is “Thought You Should Know,” co-written with Nicolle Galyon and Miranda Lambert. Recent breakout hit “You Proof” became his fastest climbing single to-date, reaching No. 1 after just 14 weeks and remaining at No. 1 on Billboard’s Country Airplay chart for a record-breaking ten non-consecutive weeks. On the heels of the unparalleled success of his 4x platinum, ACM Album of the Year, Dangerous: The Double Album (Big Loud/Mercury/Republic Records) – which topped 2021's all-genre Billboard 200 Albums year-end chart and notched historical chart status as Billboard’s longest running Top 10 album in history for a solo artist (with 108 total weeks spent in the Top 10, eclipsing Adele’s 21 and Bruce Springsteen’s Born In The USA), Wallen’s 36-song deeply personal third studio album, One Thing At A Time, is available now. The American Music Awards’ Favorite Male Country Artist and Favorite Country Song (“Wasted On You”) winner continues to touch fans’ lives in ways few can; Pollstar noting “[he has] the ability to distill his life in a way that pulls others to him.” Thanks to those very fans, the superstar has raised nearly $3 million dollars for causes close to his heart with $3 from every U.S. ticket sold for each tour benefitting the Morgan Wallen Foundation.

The Intemperate Sons Release New Single "Way Back When" via FRAME|WORK

"Way Back When" can be streamed at:

https://ffm.to/tis-waybackwhen

https://ffm.bio/theintemperatesons

Indie rock band The Intemperate Sons released their new single "Way Back When"to all major platforms! The single is from their highly anticipated new album Game of Keep Away that will be released via FRAME|WORK in 2023. The band is in the early stages of planning a fall run of shows on the west coast.

"This is the second track of the yet to be released, Game of Keep Away, LP set for late 2023 called “Way Back When”. This track was a total collaboration between The Intemperate Sons and Amir Derakh (the Dark One). The intemperate Sons explore the world through the eyes of a jaded soul just trying to make sense of the chaos all around. The Intemperate Sons release all their music through Amir Derakh and Ryan Shuck at Frame|Work and Denny Sanders at The Label Group. A brand new music video for the single will be released on 3/10/2023 to the usual platforms. The track was recorded at The Kitchen Recording Studios in Dallas, TX and mixed by Amir Derakh in Long Beach, CA. All mastering is done by Mike Marsh Mastering in the U.K.," says the band.

Formed in the summer of 2019 in Dallas, TX, The Intemperate Sons are an up-and-coming alternative rock band that are a cool concoction of hard rock mixed with folk and grunge. The band has earned a serious reputation of writing and performing tracks that scratch deep into the groove of the human experience. There is no shortage of darkness to their writing style. Their music has a total retro vibe with many guitar driven tracks stacked on top of a groovy rhythm section. Their heavier retro style sits perfectly under the two and three-part vocal harmonies that are a huge part of their sound. ABOUT THROUGH FIRE:

Hard rock should exist outside of the system. It should break the mold. It should burn through expectations. Through Fire most certainly does. The Omaha, NE quartet—Justin McCain [lead guitar & songwriter], Grant Joshua Kendrick [lead vocals], Tyler Halverson [bass], and Zack Halverson [drums]—fuses hard-hitting riffs, lyrics that truly resonate and contagious melodies that are unforgettable. As a result, this impactful, immediate, and infectious fusion defies categorization and incites energy as boundless as the style itself. Additionally, the approach transformed the quartet into a phenomenon with chart-topping radio successes and over 275 million streams worldwide.

Now, the same fire fuels the band’s third full-length for Sumerian Records. “This album takes you on a roller coaster ride of emotions". We've all been through the fiery trials of life, this album aims to empower us all to get up out of the pit of despair and be victorious over our difficult circumstances. "Recording these songs was truly therapeutic, going in the studio to unleash every raw, honest feeling imaginable while enduring the heat of life's flames and heartache was powerful. This album brought us healing and we know from experience, we can all rise above whatever life throws our way.”

FIRE SETS FIRE Releases Official Music Video for Single "Fire Sets Fire"!

Fire Sets Fire is a kick ass Rock band that is reigniting the BAD ASSery missing in today’s rock music! The band released the official music video for their single "Fire Sets Fire" today!

"You will feel the vocals on Fire Sets Fire all the way to your Soul!" says the band.

A Fire was started one day in Los Angeles, California by the screaming Les Paul’s of Steve Garth and Brooks Larson. Their amplifiers were fueled by a solid rhythm section of drummer Shane Caldwell and bassist Ray Solorio. Top it off with beautiful yet brutally honest lyrics from vocalist Matt Patin, and the FIRE RAGED!!!

Fire Sets Fire delivers a straight forward yet unique sound through the different styles that each one of their songs bring out.

“Angry Boy”, “Speechless America” and “Faster” are full on rockers that are core to the band’s sound. While “Maybe We Can Dance”, “Waiting” & “We Unite” are more refined and showcase the melodic style of the band. Finally the ballads “Fire sets Fire” and “Last Goodbye” gets you with stories of heartbreak and loss that hits you right in the feels!

Fire sets Fire delivers their music live with the same authenticity that crafted the music in the first place. Loud, Proud and Unapologetic!! No filter & certainly not perfect, but it’s real & coming strait from the heart!

“We hope you love this band as much as we do!” “Each song that we make is a gift.” “Sharing these gifts with the world is a privilege that we truly appreciate!!”

Fire Sets Fire is:

Matt – Vocals
Steve – Guitar & Backing Vocals
Brooks – Guitar & Backing Vocals
Ray – Bass & Backing Vocals
Shane – Drums

ABYSMAL DAWN Vocalist Joins Serj Tankian for Special Performance

Vocalist Charles Elliott of Abysmal Dawn will join System Of A Down lead vocalist Serj Tankian for a very special orchestral performance in Elliott's hometown of Los Angeles, CA on April 29! Tickets for the "Invocations" orchestral suite are now on sale HERE.

Elliott joins a diverse and prestigious group of musicians who were hand-selected by Tankian for this one-time event! Other collaborators include renowned tenor Brian Thorsett, world music singer Azam Ali, and sound healer Francesca Genco. Backing them will be the CSUN Symphony Orchestra, ethnic instrumentalists (including duduk master Jivan Gasparyan Jr.) and a full choir.

Regarding this special performance, Elliott says, "It's an honor to be performing as vocalist with such a legendary and diverse musician like Serj. I am truly humbled to have been asked to be a part of such a cool and unique project. I'm ready to provide something ugly to some extremely beautiful and captivating music. Now I hope to see some headbangers there, wearing their best penguin suits and monocles!"

Abysmal Dawn is supporting the release of its 2022 EP, 'Nightmare Frontier,' which is out now!

'Nightmare Frontier' is available to order at the Season of Mist E-Shop, Abysmal Dawn Bandcamp, and Abysmal Dawn Store. The single and EP can be streamed via your favorite streaming services HERE.

'Nightmare Frontier' follows up 2020's critically-acclaimed album, 'Phylogenesis.' The album was named one of the best albums of 2020 by Metal Injection, Metal Insider (#7), Teeth of the Divine, Cursed Zine, and more! In addition, drummer James Coppolino is listed as one of Sick Drummer Magazine's favorite drummers of 2020 and the band's song "Soul Sick Nation" was among Loudwire's "66 Best Metal Songs of 2020."

'Nightmare Frontier' was mixed and mastered by Charles Elliott at Tastemaker Audio. Drums were engineered by John Haddad at Trench Studios, while tracking for all instruments was handled by Elliott.

The artwork for 'Nightmare Frontier,' which was created by Par Olofson, can be found below along with the tracklist.

American death metal masters Abysmal Dawn are back! After a six-year gap, the Los Angeles-based outfit and Season of Mist hereby present Phylogenesis. Not that Abysmal Dawn have laid low since the release of 2014’s lauded Obsolescence full-length. Far from it. They toured North America four times and hit Europe and South America for the first time. Meanwhile, founding member Charles Elliott opened his studio, Tastemaker Audio, to accelerate Abysmal Dawn's own recording needs, as well to act as a bridge to other bands in need of a knowledgeable and relatable audio technician. But the road to Phylogenesis wasn’t an easy one. Besides work-horsing it throughout the U.S., Canada, Sweden, Germany, the UK, Brazil, Chile, and beyond in support of Obsolescence, Elliott and crew managed through some of the lowest points in Abysmal Dawn’s career. Internal strife, administrative burdens, musical differences, and motivation all had their various ways with the Californians. Yet, from the darkest depths, they prevailed, heralding a new chapter in the group’s storied history. Indeed, Phylogenesis is Abysmal Dawn’s rebirth!

“There was a brief period after doing two months of touring back-to-back in the U.S. and Europe in 2015 that I almost felt like calling it quits,” Abysmal Dawn’s Charles Elliott says. "It was our first time in Europe and I just had a hard time enjoying it. The band had grown, and I was a bit tired of having to handle most of the managerial aspects of what we do. The joy had been ripped from things and people weren't getting along, and some people acted like they didn't want to be there. But we went our separate ways with some of the members and all of a sudden, the band was fun again. They went on to other things and we're probably all happier in the end. Sometimes, I feel it's a miracle this album or band even still exists. I've avoided swearing on our records in the past, but the album's opening line is actually, 'Fuck you all!' Maybe it's primitive by our past lyrical standards but it's genuine and it's the most heartfelt, ‘Fuck you, we’re still here’ I could put on a record. I’m glad we stuck it out because I think this is our proudest moment so far.”

To say Phylogenesis is an extension or continuation of Obsolescence isn’t exactly as straightforward as it should be. On one hand, all the Abysmal Dawn trademarks—technicality, brutality, and melody—remain ingrained in the songwriting fabric. On the other, the band’s fifth full-length is more cohesive, rhythmically sophisticated, and far more adventurous. Elliott calls it “a major evolution.” Certainly, the six years of constant refinement, edge smoothing, and transition adjustments have paid off. What started as jam sessions between Elliott, bassist Eliseo Garcia, and drummer James Coppolino in 2016 eventually turned into one-offs. That there was no time limit to put Phylogenesis together ended up both a blessing and a curse. Total creative freedom at very little expense is a dream scenario, something a band of Abysmal Dawn’s stature took advantage of for their magnum opus. But without a ticking clock and dollars burning, the pressure to focus was far less severe, resulting in delays and feature creep.

“It was basically James, Eliseo and me meeting up at my place, jamming on ideas, seeing what worked and tweaking them from there,” says Elliott. “With the exception of ‘Hedonistic,’ James wrote all his drum parts. Obsolescence was demoed with me programming all the drums since our drummer at the time had moved up north. It was what it was, but it was pretty frustrating at the time. Having someone to bounce ideas off of in real-time, helped in maintaining the joy and momentum of making this album. Once it was time to record bass and leads, Eliseo and Vito [Petroni; guitars] would trickle in when they had ideas. We had no real deadline and seemingly infinite time to do things. Admittedly, I think it was hard for me to focus on the lyrics, not only because of things in my personal life but because I was focused on getting the guys in to complete their parts so I could focus.”

Finish Phylogenesis they did, in fact. Under significant duress, Abysmal Dawn had overcome their roadblocks. The results of the group’s undulating professional and personal schedules aren’t to be trifled with, however. Opening track “Mundane Existence” is a firestorm of labyrinthine yet savage riffs, enraged vocals, and machine-gun drumming. It’s death metal personified, enlightened, and perfected. Elsewhere, tracks such as “The Path of the Totalitarian,” “A Speck in the Fabric of Eternity,” and “Soul-Sick Nation” (feat. Fredrik Folkare of Unleashed, Firespawn, et al.) pose real threats to the status quo. In all three, Elliott’s passion for and dominance of death metal’s tenets are tangible. But there’s more to Abysmal Dawn on Phylogenesis than customary ritual. From the ruthless groove of “Hedonistic” and the staccato stabs of “Coerced Evolution” to the late album gem “The Lament Configuration” and the blistering cover of Death classic “Flattening of Emotion,” the songs are designed to slay in ways we’re just beginning to understand.

“We’re a pretty brutal death metal band, but what I feel like sets us apart is that no matter what we do there’s always some underlying sense of melody and hooks,” Elliott says. “There are lots of bands that are ridiculously brutal. There are lots of bands that are over-the-top technically or are blatantly melodic. We combine all that but we try to write something that sticks with you over time; that you'll keep coming back to, and that works well in the live environment. We love all types of music, whether it's fusion or industrial music, and it shines through here and there. But in the end, though, we're a pure death metal band at heart trying to retain that old-school feel with an updated take for a new generation.”

Conceptually, Phylogenesis deals with the breakdown of social constructs humans have built over time. The album title is defined by the evolution of (or diversification) a species. So, Phylogenesis is an ironic take on Elliott’s observations, particularly how social media has accelerated and exacerbated the de-evolution of humanity’s interactive abilities. The cover art, again by Swedish artist Pär Olofsson, isn’t directly correlated to the lyrical narrative, but it does continue where Obsolescence left off. The Olofsson cover art has envisioned what it’s like on the inside of the Obsolescence tower, and that it’s humans that are being fed back to humans. The cover art continuity is akin to Richard Fleischer’s famed Soylent Green film but ripped through Elliott’s demented death metal lens.

“I think the lyrics deal a lot with things we encounter in our modern society and the effect it has on the individual,” says Elliott. “The dehumanization effect and divisiveness caused by bickering on social media (‘The Path of the Totalitarian’), the decay of legitimate journalism (‘True to the Blind’), struggling to find purpose in the pursuit of happiness (‘Hedonistic’), wishing something was greater than yourself (‘Mundane Existence’), the mental illness epidemic (‘Soul-Sick Nation’), embracing pain over numbness to feel alive (‘The Lament Configuration’), having our consciousnesses uploaded to a grid in order to make life sustainable on Earth (‘Coerced Evolution’), and the common theme throughout the band of wishing life on Earth would just start over (‘A Speck in the Fabric of Eternity’). I had started off wanting it to be a concept record but later scrapped that idea because I didn't like how it was going. In the end though, it just naturally all tied together in some way. Even the Death cover seemed to fit lyrically in hindsight. ‘Coerced Evolution’ is really the only song that in the sci-fi vein this time around. As for Pär, yes, he did the cover art once again. We love working with him and we’ve been creating great covers with him since 2006.”

Abysmal Dawn recorded Phylogenesis over a multi-year timeframe. In fact, Coppolino’s drums were tracked as far back as 2017 with long-time collaborator John Haddad at Trench Studios. The rhythm guitars and vocals, as produced by Mike Bear and Elliott, were also done at Tastemaker Audio the same year. So, some of Phylogenesis goes back, but the parts are no less lethal. Slowly but surely, the group’s newest and greatest materialized, with Elliott finishing the lead guitars, bass, additional vocals, re-amping, and mixing sessions in 2019, again at Tastemaker Audio. Abysmal Dawn then packaged up their fifth for mastering ace Tony Lindgren (Rotting Christ) to handle at Fascination Street Studios in Sweden. Contemporary yet absolutely remorseless, Abysmal Dawn’s Phylogenesis is death metal for a new age.

“We took our time and went to few studios this time around, so it’s a bit of a laundry list,” Elliott says. “John Haddad engineered the drums at Trench Studios. John has been involved with all our records in some form since From Ashes. Mike Bear helped track and produce the vast majority of my vocals and rhythm guitars out of my studio. Mike produced both Leveling the Plane of Existence (2010) and Obsolescence. I tracked and produced all the leads, bass parts, and other odds and ends and mixed the album as well. Tony Lindgren at Fascination Street Studios mastered the record in the end.”

As for Abysmal Dawn’s next steps, the quartet await the release of Phylogenesis. With past support coming from the Village Voice, Decibel, PopMatters, and Pandora, as well as the group's rabidly-devoted fanbase, the future of death metal is in good hands.

New York Indie Rockers RED VOX Release New Album ‘Afterthoughts’

Release New Album ‘Afterthoughts’

Stream HERE

The conclusion of a journey that began with their 2022 LP Visions, indie rockers RED VOX have released the other half of what has grown into a double album – Visions and Afterthoughts’.

The New York-based group’s new full-length, ‘Afterthoughts’, is out today, and features the singles “Almost a Stranger”, “Forgetter”, and “Playing By The Rules”.

Commenting on the album, the band shares:

"’Afterthoughts’ completes the fifth Red Vox LP; the double album 'Visions and Afterthoughts'. Releasing a year after ‘Visions’, the songs range from upbeat, groove-based rock to darker and more contemplative meditations. The ten songs have a heavy synth and guitar focus and can be enjoyed on their own merits or as part of the whole."

About RED VOX:

RED VOX is a New York City based indie rock band created by Vinny, Mike, Joe, and Billin 2015. Beginning primarily as a two-piece, RED VOX would eventually incorporate the talents of all four members. All recordings have been done at Red Room Studios, engineered by Joe of Happy Anarchy fame. Somewhat aimless at first, the band came together in time due to Joe's production style and bass groundwork.

Without adhering to one specific genre, RED VOX take inspiration from a number of classic and contemporary rock bands. Vinny has said that bands like Radiohead, Pixies, David Bowie, Pink Floyd, The Cars, Wilco, MGMT, The Clash, Tame Impala, Queens of the Stone Age and Talking Heads were influences. Some may consider their music psychedelic, though not exclusively so.

According to Vinny, the name of the band came from a dream. This became a sort of theme for RED VOX as multiple songs have been claimed to originate from dreams. Released in 2016, the band's debut album, ‘What Could Go Wrong’ stayed somewhat rooted in guitar driven rock reminiscent of the early 90s. It would show signs of things to come for RED VOX, including a melody that would later appear on ‘Another Light’.

The 9-minute pseudo-prog song “Stranded” and brisk acoustic album ‘Kerosene’ would follow. In 2020, the band released their follow-up to ‘Another Light’, ‘Realign’, a synth heavy and groove focused record that captures the diversity of styles RED VOX is capable of.

Currently, RED VOX is releasing their 20-song double album, 'Visions and Afterthoughts' – a combination of their 2022 full-length, ‘Visions’, and their new studio effort, ‘Afterthoughts’.

Both albums are available now on streaming platforms, with a formal physical release for the double LP coming towards the end of 2023.
