OCEANS OF SLUMBER Release Cover of "Wicked Game"

The Houston metal band are performing their upcoming new album at Metal Injection Festival and Mad With Power

"One of modern metal's brightest hopes" - Metal Hammer

"A band that nails a unique balance and has the potential to do whatever they want" - Angry Metal Guy (4/5)

"Masterful compositions that reveal more secrets with each listen" - Metal Injection (9/10)

"Dark, turbulent, and above all, incredibly emotional" - New Noise (4/5)

"They are the new Southern gothic, and you need to pay attention" - Distorted Sound (9/10)

"This band is truly something special" - Ghost Cult (8/10)

Since their star turn in 2016, Oceans of Slumber have included a cover song on all of their albums. As expected for a band that defies any and all conventions, the list of covers spans far beyond the metal realms, ranging from goth to blues rock, baroque pop and classic American folk.

While they always planned on ending their upcoming eighth album with another cover, a last-minute change of heart led Oceans of Slumber to revisit Chris Isaak's signature sleeper hit. By stripping the song down to its chilling core, the band turned "Wicked Game" into the dark and doomy end credits score to the dark, cinematic Where Gods Fear to Speak.

"Wicked Game" was on Oceans of Slumber's list well before Where Gods Fear to Speak. But when the Houston metal band arrived in Columbia to record their new album with GRAMMY nominee Joel Hamilton, they had already decided on covering the country-meets-Brill Building staple "Crying". Which would've made perfect sense; after all, Roy Orbison was a fellow proud Texan.

"I'm sure we'll cover 'Crying' at some point down the line", says Cammie Beverly. "But in the end, this album called for something more unexpected".

Oceans of Slumber's well-laid plan for finishing Where Gods Fear to Speak changed during their last session at Audiovision Studios. Having already recorded for nine and a half hours straight, the band were running out of time and energy. "My voice was so tired", Cammie reveals. While she's blessed with one of the cleanest and strongest set of pipes in all of metal, this album challenged her to flex a guttural new muscle: death growls.

"I had just recorded the demo for the hardest song on the album", Cammie continues. With its dizzying high notes and crushing, demonic lows, it's no wonder "Poem of Ecstasy" left even a powerful singer like her both physically and emotionally drained. "It was really frustrating", she remembers. Unsure whether her voice could summon The Big O's sweet, booming crescendo, at the final hour, she consulted with her husband and drummer Dobber Beverly. "We realized that the album needed to end on a note that was still familiar but also a bit unsettling".

Luckily, Dobber had just the right song in mind. "When we were in Columbia, I heard a club remix of 'Wicked Game' while out at a restaurant", he says with a smile. "It was so bad that I needed to go and make things right in my head". The band didn't have a moment to spare, either; like all of the songs on Where Gods Fear to Speak, they tracked this cover live, nailing the final take within their very last hour of studio time.

All jokes aside, "Wicked Game" proved to be a match made in heaven with Where Gods Fear to Speak. Chris Isaak wrote and released "Wicked Game" as a single off his third album in 1989, but the song didn't climb all the way to #6 on the Billboard Hot 100 until an Atlanta radio host heard it featured in David Lynch's 1990 romantic crime drama Wild at Heart. As its spellbinding title track unveiled, Oceans of Slumber still deliver more of the fiery death, doom and black metal that long-time fans have come to expect, but this new album expands their progressive vision to dark, cinematic heights.

"We've taken the raw and heavier direction of our last two albums and elevated it to the scale of a blockbuster IMAX movie", says Dobber. "Our cover of 'Wicked Game' is the song that plays over the end credits".

Still, it wouldn't have been all that surprising if Oceans of Slumber had stuck with the dazed, vaguely tropical vibe that Isaak nailed on the original version of "Wicked Game". After all, they had just spent two weeks soaking up Bogotá's sultry, sunny atmosphere. Alex Davis adds a lovely Spanish guitar line, but the band's chief composer took the out-of-nowhere hit in a bone-chilling direction.

Underground metalheads will always worship him as the drummer for grindcore legends Insect Warfare, but Dobber is also a classically trained pianist who arranged all 10 songs on Where Gods Fear to Speak. In his well-calloused hands, "Wicked Game" proceeds slowly, gracefully, as if welcoming a ghost, which allows Cammie plenty of breathing room. "No, I don't want to fall in love", she sings amidst the softest reaches of her upper register. Chris Kritikos joins in on back vocals, recasting the song's memorable refrain into a haunting coda of the doomed romance at the album's heart.

"With 'Wicked Game', we're sending the characters off into the sunset with a cliffhanger", says Cammie and Dobber. "Nobody loves no one".

To celebrate the release of Where Gods Fear to Speak, Oceans of Slumber have three special performances planned for later this year.

In August, Oceans of Slumber will battle alongside their new label mates Oak, Ash & Thorn at Madison, Wisconsin' Mad With Power Festival. The band will then reconvene with producer Joel Hamilton at Studio G Brooklyn, where they'll treat a small but lucky group of fans to reimagined versions of new and old classics.

"During this exclusive evening at Studio G, we'll be graced by esteemed guest musicians and a captivating string quartet", Dobber says. "Each song will be reinvented, breathing new life into the songs our fans cherish".

Come September, Oceans of Slumber will join forces with fellow Houston heavies Necrofier at Metal Injection Festival.

"We are thrilled to celebrate Metal Injection's 20th anniversary at this year's festival", says Cammie. "We'll be sharing the stage with amazing bands like Jinjer, Converge, God Forbid, 3 Inches of Blood, Hanabie, Cave In, Rivers of Nihil and our good friends in Necrofier. We can't wait to rock out with you and hit the streets of New York City".

Hootie & the Blowfish Celebrate RIAA Double-Diamond Certification at Bridgestone Arena

With the Summer Camp with Trucks Tour marking the first full outing in five years for generation-defining band Hootie & the Blowfish, the Nashville stop at Bridgestone Arena this Saturday, July 27, was cause for extra celebration. Having recently been presented with a plaque celebrating 22x Platinum certification during their appearance on ABC's "Good Morning America," band members Darius Rucker, Mark Bryan, Dean Felber and Jim "Soni" Sonefeld were joined by the Recording Industry Association of America's Chief Policy Officer Morna Willens ahead of this weekend's show for a special presentation of the RIAA's prestigious Double Diamond trophies. The honor solidifies the band's debut album, Cracked Rear View, among the top 10 best-selling albums in all of music history.

The celebration continued as the band took the stage later in the evening, with Forbes describing the show that followed as "a high energy celebration of a band whose music has remained timeless," raving, "the music has never been better. Rucker’s voice is even richer now than ever (if that’s possible) and the musicianship with each and every band member is top notch. And they’re all still having fun with Mark Bryan, guitar-in-hand, singing, jumping, criss-crossing the stage, Soni jamming on the drums, and Felber better than ever on the bass."

"Hootie & the Blowfish's live set could've been Cracked Rear View, front to back, and nobody would've minded it. Instead, they, as they have often since playing more significantly together again for the past five years, endeavored to deliver more," added the Tennessean. "The band, less tethered than ever to genre delineations — partly inspired by their lead singer's 10 country chart-toppers and Grand Ole Opry membership — has a musical freedom amidst them now that adds immeasurably to their live experience."

The Summer Camp with Trucks Tour runs through the fall with special guests Collective Soul and Edwin McCain, visiting arenas, amphitheaters and select stadiums along the way, including a homecoming to Columbia, S.C.’s Colonial Life Arena for the Gamecock alumni. The band will also headline Rucker’s own Riverfront Revival Music Festival in Charleston, S.C. this October. Tickets to all shows are on sale now via Hootie.com.

This year also saw the release of new music from Hootie & the Blowfish, with their rendition of “For What It's Worth,” the timeless anthem originally penned by Stephen Stills in 1966. The chart-topping band’s version of this iconic protest song, recorded in 2017 during their studio sessions for Imperfect Circle, is available HERE.

About Hootie & the Blowfish
With the rich, bluesy vocals of Darius Rucker and gleeful harmonies of guitarist Mark Bryan, bassist Dean Felber and drummer Jim “Soni” Sonefeld, Hootie & the Blowfish have sold over 25 million records worldwide to date after their infectious melodies hit the airwaves in 1994 with hits such as “Hold My Hand,” “Let Her Cry” and “Only Wanna Be With You.” The quartet met at the University of South Carolina where endless gigs at frat houses and local bars built a major local buzz. Their blend of pop, folk, blues, soul and rock made them hard to pigeonhole, but easily accessible to anyone who loved good music.

Atlantic Records, impressed by their regional draw, signed them and released Cracked Rear View in 1994. The album had been out for six months before the band played on the Late Show with David Letterman which sent sales skyrocketing, eventually landing at No. 1 on the Billboard chart the following spring. Cracked Rear View and the band went on to win two GRAMMY Awards, an MTV Video Music Award, a Billboard Music Award and multiple People's Choice Awards. Cracked Rear View also earned the band Billboard's Band of the Year Award in 1996 and the RIAA's Diamond Award for sales in excess of 10 million units. At 21x Platinum, Cracked Rear View remains among the Top 10 best-selling studio albums in music history.

The band remained a top draw nationwide following their debut and released five more albums for Atlantic: Fairweather JohnsonMusical ChairsScattered, Smothered & CoveredHootie & the Blowfish and The Best of Hootie & the Blowfish, as well as Looking For Lucky on their own Sneaky Long Records and LIVE in Charleston, The Homegrown Concert Event DVD and CD. The band took a break from full-time touring in 2007, reuniting annually for a variety of philanthropic events while also pursuing solo projects. 2019 marked the band's first full-time touring year in over a decade as they embarked on the sold-out Group Therapy Tour in support of Imperfect Circle, released in late 2019 under a new record deal with Universal Music Group’s Capitol Nashville, and 2024 sees them on the road once again for the Summer Camp with Trucks Tour.

RYAN AND RORY’S SELF-TITLED DEBUT EP, AVAILABLE NOW

SiriusXM The Highway’s latest “Highway Find,” Ryan and Rory today release their highly anticipated self-titled debut EP. Joining the ranks of previous “Highway Finds” such as Luke Combs, Gabby Barrett, Parker McCollum, among others, Ryan and Rory’s debut features their buzzy party starter and a nod to the universal heartache band-aid “Pour Decisions.” Released earlier this year, Country Now declared the lively smash a “catchy, post-heartbreak summertime anthem.” Country Swag applauded that “the singer-songwriters are bursting onto the scene with a prime summer-ready song” and are “an act to pay attention to,” while MusicRow boasted that “Ryan and Rory are set to make major waves on the country music scene.” Listen to Ryan and Rory’s self-titled EP HERE

Both immersed in music from a young age, Ryan Follesé is a Nashville native, 2X PLATINUM #1 hit singer-songwriter and American Music Award winner. Rory John Zak, from Raleigh, North Carolina, is a multi-instrumentalist singer-songwriter who has played over 300 shows per year since he was 17.

“We are so excited for everyone to hear these songs,” says Rory. “Each one was inspired by real-life people and situations we’ve experienced over the last few years. The songs speak to the lives we live, and we hope that they do the same for everyone who loves country music like we do.”

“We see this first batch of songs as our musical mission statement,” says Ryan. “Great country songs are what we are about, and we could not be prouder to start our journey with these six. They are for true country music fans - the greatest fans in the world."

Son of #1 songwriters Adrienne and Keith Follesé (Faith Hill, Tim McGraw, Martina McBride), Ryan co-wrote all six tracks on the debut, including five with his hitmaker family, while Rory added his masterful instrumentals and expertly smooth harmonies to Ryan’s robust lead vocals.

Kickstarting their catalog with a vivacious “Pour Decisions,” the EP exemplifies that vibrant, wide-open spirit with songs like “Drunk and Lonely,” a two-step singalong featuring dirt-floor dancehall vibes and Rory’s honky-tonk piano that would make Brooks & Dunn proud, “This Town,” a celebration of small-town dreams and freedom, and “State I’m In,” a rockin’ tale of regret that comes from chasing a lover across the country, only to find out that the entire passion-led journey was a dead end.

Rounding out the debut, the duo dial in on soul-stirring ballads like “Cowboy Cry,” a woeful she-done-him-wrong classic, and “Thanks Mama,” a song Ryan co-wrote with his dad, brother and sister as a surprise for his mom, whose wise advice narrates the touching track.

Up next, Ryan and Rory will open for Sam Hunt on Friday, August 23 in Memphis, Tenn. at Radians Amphitheater and on Saturday, August 24 in Gary, Indiana at Hard Rock Live. For tickets and tour updates, visit ryanandrorymusic.com.

Rain Can't Stop No Shoes Nation: Kenny Returns Next Night in Phoenix

Megan Moroney had already finished her set on Wednesday evening when the weather got too gruesome to continue at the Talking Stick Resort Amphitheater. Rain, wind and weather advisories couldn’t dampen the spirit of No Shoes Nation who waited a full two hours for Kenny Chesney to be able to take the stage for the local stop on his Sun Goes Down 2024 Tour. And then the lightning struck.

“I won’t take chances with the people I love,” Chesney has always said. Making good on that notion, the songwriter/superstar was in the trenches monitoring weather movement, talking to promoter reps and people in the building, looking for solutions for interminable circumstances. When he found out he could play the next night, even as lighting started slicing the sky, Chesney made the decision – and moved the sold-out show to Thursday.

“I came to Phoenix to play,” he said. “I wanted to share this music with the Arizona faction of  No Shoes Nation, and I didn’t think some rain would stop us. But lightning is something else. After we’d waited so long, when that happened, there was only one thing to do: come back tomorrow night.”

Taking to social media to announce the change of plans, the eight-time Entertainer of the Year also dropped in at two local country radio stations – KNIX and KMLE – on Thursday to let fans know the show would go on that night as “An Evening with Kenny Chesney.” Taking it to the control room and the people, the East Tennessean wanted to let fans know he was committed to playing in spite of the weather.

And that’s just what he did. Again, monitoring the weather forecasts and radar, they held the doors. Staying watchful, the show intro finally rolled at 7:20 – and an intimate evening with one of America’s most songwriter-forward superstars was underway. Playing for over two hours, Chesney offered tour rarities “There Goes My Life” and “Out Last Night” in place of his duets with Moroney, who had another show booked en route to Saturday’s Denver stadium play.

“When you’ve got a sold-out house, fans like the people in Phoenix and a band that’s as on fire as my crew has been all summer, really, you do want to play. We’re not quite the post office – come wind or rain or snow or sleet or hail – but we’re not worried about getting wet if No Shoes Nation is in the house and looking for music. That’s when my band really shines.”

Chesney has a history of making good on rain delays. In 2009, Chesney had to stop mid-show at Frisco, Texas’s Pizza Hut Park. He was back the first open date, picking up where he’d left off. Without missing a beat, Chesney threw himself into the music and making the fans feel loved.

“I think when we all go through things like this together, No Shoes Nation comes together even more tightly bound. I feel that way even more. Those fans who came, stayed and believed? It’s a whole other kind of connection, and one I’ll cherish for the rest of my life.”

Presented by Blue Chair Bay® Rum, it’s all about the friends, high energy and songs people know by heart.

"For fans of the classic era of death metal" - Blabbermouth
"Nobody sounds like these guys; they make art out of riffs, snares and death" -
New Noise

"The one-two punch of tight musicianship and an inclination to pummel into submission without the need for flashy antics makes for a dazzling experience" - Ghost Cult

"Straight to the point and relentless"
- Distorted Sound

"Encapsulates both the oldschool familiarity and the modern aesthetics of death metal" - Metal Trenches

Though they've more than earned their distinguished title as the samurai of death metal, Defiled have never had the patience to suffer any fools. For the past 30 years, Yusuke Sumita and his lethal band of warriors have been on a war path, leaving nothing but inevitable ruin in their grimy wake. They've conquered crowds from across their native Tokyo all the way to Milwaukee Metal Festival while touring with their fellow legends in Mayhem, Incantation, Morbid Angel and Cannibal Corpse.

Now, just two years removed from reaching the highest level of straight-forward, bone-crushing death metal, Defiled have topped themselves once again on their upcoming eighth album. Horror Beyond Horror is the kind of good ol' fashioned ass-kicking that only a true master can deliver. It slices and dices from all directions, but their new single cuts straight to the bloody truth.

Ever since they clawed out of Tokyo's underground back in 1992, Defiled have carved out a reputation as one of the world's finest practitioners of relentlessly raw death metal. "Those who prefer the schools of olde should be right at home", Lambgoat wrote in praise of their last barbaric offering.

But Horror Beyond Horror proves that Defiled can still inflict maximum punishment in ways that are strangely satisfying. Like a poisonous dart, the band come come shooting out of the shadows on "Smoke and Mirrors". Blast beats pummel at unforeseen angles, only to shift around every corner into a dizzying flurry of drum fills.

"Smoke and Mirrors" will toy with even the most decorated of battle vests, but Defiled know when it's time to vanquish foes with a brutal finishing move. "Every lie has been revealed", fearless frontman Shinichiro Hamada shouts, taking aim at perpetual frauds and tyrannical technocrats. Upon getting the signal from Hamada's screaming whammy bar, the band charge straight into the pit of battle with a grisly, grease-slicked groove that will snap plenty of necks on their upcoming Japanese tour.

"We are very excited to kick off our tour in support of our new album in our home country", says guitarist Yusuke Sumita. "If you're in the area, be sure to join us. See you on the road".

The video for "Smoke and Mirrors" was filmed at Katakai Pier in Kujukuri, Chiba, Japan in May 2024. It was directed and edited by Seaside 99 Works. Special thanks to Kujukuri Gyogyou Kumiai.

In customary fashion, this fall, Defiled are welcoming Horror Beyond Horror with a tour of Japan.

Don't miss the chance to watch these legends shred through "Smoke and Mirrors", "To See Beyond the Wall" and other nasty rippers off their new album for the very first time.

CLASSIC ROCKERS THE SWEET RETURN WITH NEW SINGLE/VIDEO, "LITTLE MIRACLE"

One of the most instantly recognizable – and successful – rock bands of the '70s was The Sweet, who scored a string of hit albums and singles due to their highly melodic and anthemic sound and glam look. And now, the group is proud to announce the July 25th release of their new hot single/video “Little Miracle” on Dark Star Records, via Sony/Orchard.

This pop rock funky love song is another example of The Sweet’s departure from the norm. Model Dominique Mercedes makes her stunning debut appearance in the video, and her innocent yet enticing beauty captures the essence of true love. Singer Patrick Alan Stone along with his band mates deliver the goods, with a catchy tune that has the legs to go all the way.

The video can be viewed below.

The Sweet's classic '70s line-up was comprised of Brian Connolly – lead and backing vocals, Steve Priest – bass, backing and lead vocals, Mick Tucker – drums, backing and occasional lead vocals, and Andy Scott – guitar, keyboards, backing and lead vocals.

After the passing of Connelly (in 1997) and Tucker (in 2002), Priest wanted Sweet to carry on and for its line up to possess the talent, feel and high energy that The Sweet had in its glory days. Priest’s new line-up was an instant smash success, playing hundreds of concerts across the United States, Canada, South America, Europe, and many other countries around the world – for well over a decade, until Priest’s passing in 2020.

Shortly after, it was decided that The Sweet should continue onward, as Stevie and Richie were part of that line up and were asked to carry on by Steve. Sweet 2024 is comprised of frontman Patrick Alan Stone, guitarist Jimmy Burkard, keyboardist Dave Schulz, bassist Stevie Stewart, and drummer Richie Onori.

The band achieved massive commercial success around the globe in the '70s, including such hits as “Ballroom Blitz,” “Fox On the Run,”  “Love Is Like Oxygen,” “Little Willy,” “Blockbuster,” “Action,” “Teenage Rampage,” and “AC/DC,” among many others.

“Little Miracle” is just the beginning of the groups ascension into a whole new demographic listening audience, with many new songs yet to come.

This new release with the aforementioned lineup demonstrates the same driving force and unpredictable musical quality that has always been the hallmark and essence of The Sweet’s iconic sound.

OCEANS - Announce New Album 'Happy'

Exciting news from German nu-death band OCEANS!
After the band's triptych of EPs in 2022, which later formed the album Hell Is Where The Heart Is,  the band now announces their third official studio album. HAPPY, which will be released on September 27th, sees the band delving into the all too familiar topic of mental health struggles as they explore the lows of human existence, with the album's title serving as the desired state of mind.

OCEANS have also delivered a brand new single called 'Parasite', which comes with an accompanying music video that you can witness below:

Timo Rotten comments:

"Music has always been our way of confronting our darkest emotions and finding a sense of release. I hope that this song resonates with those who have faced anxiety and depression and reminds them that they are not alone. Your fear might hold you hostage. But you can also choose to fight back!”

About:

Germany’s Nu Death powerhouse OCEANS are back with unprecedented ferocity since their debut EP in 2018. Brace yourself for their third album HAPPY, a colossal juggernaut that once again showcases the band's ability to seamlessly fuse nu-metal, death metal, and post-rock into their own signature sound. The days of subtle introversion seem to be over. As the world faces one crisis after another, OCEANS are channeling their frustration at the state of the world into a bold statement against the influence of social media on society, while staying true to their mission of promoting mental health awareness. This band has never sounded as angry as they do now, and these 11 songs are impressive proof of how well that emotion suits them. Surely this is also what convinced Australia's finest, keyboardist MISSTIQ and Josh Collard from EARTH CALLER, to take part as feature artists on two tracks. OCEANS ’previous album Hell Is Where The Heart Is put the band on the road with international acts like BLIND CHANNEL in 2022, as well as supporting ANNISOKAY in 2024. It’s safe to say that HAPPY will ignite massive mosh pits on their upcoming extensive European tour with SEPTICFLESH in October 2024.

OCEANS is:
Timo Rotten | vocals, guitar
Patrick Zarske | guitar
Thomas Winkelmann | bass
J.F. Grill | drums

ANCIIENTS Deliver Timeless Wisdom on New Single

JUNO Award winners hosting Bandcamp Listening Party for highly-anticipated third album Beyond the Reach of the Sun

"Big, melodic and fun" - New Noise
"A blend of soothing acoustic rock melodies and crushing heavy metal" - Guitar World

"It's exciting stuff, really - often complicated without seeming excessive, skillful but soulful, approachable but not pedestrian" - Pitchfork

"Heady stuff...arch-synthesists, cleverly appropriating a number of familiar, inter-related genres to fuse into a seamless ethos" - Metal Injection

"Proggy, sludgy and downright rocking" - Angry Metal Guy

"When the riffs rumble out of the speakers, you're moving" - No Clean Singing

"Combining powerful drumming with Thin Lizzy inspired riffs, while sounding like the musical equivalent of Game of Thrones" - Echoes and Dust

"Parts progressive finesse, classic rock grandstanding and grass-roots bludgeon" - PopMatters

Before they saw their new album to the finish line, Anciients had to climb an awfully rocky mountain. It might be hard to believe, but a global pandemic wasn't the only obstacle that stood in the Canadian band's path after winning a JUNO Award. They had to navigate multiple line-up changes, serious health complications and newfound fatherhood. But at last, the heavy, heady and heartfelt Canucks have returned to the summit of progressive metal with Beyond the Reach of the Sun.

The album's new single is plenty crushing, but "In the Absence of Wisdom" radiates with hard-earned perseverance.

"The hiatus is over" says frontman Kenny Cook. "We're ready to hit it hard".

By the time we arrive at "In the Absence of Wisdom", the story behind Beyond the Reach of the Sun appears to have already reached its pointed conclusion. The shadowy galactic forces that enslaved society on the album's first two singles have been vanquished. The sun has returned to its vaulted place in the sky. Light and balance have been restored to the universe. All is well. Or so it seems...

"In the Absence of Wisdom" is the closing statement on Beyond the Reach of the Sun, which makes it stand out as an ominous coda. After all, Anciients didn't spend the last eight years soul searching through the Canadian wilderness just so they could wrap up their long-awaited new album with a big kumbaya. A bluesy guitar intro unravels like a cry in the dark before Cook and his new axe man Brock MacInnes (Dead Quiet) are locked back into a classic headbanging riff.

"We awaken", Cook sings, shrouded in reverb. "No one left to guide us through".

"In the Absence of Wisdom" does build to a grand finale in due time. But the song revolves around a gloomy conceptual framework. "I was thinking about all the times we as humans have failed to learn from the mistakes of everyone who's come and gone before us", Cook explains. "Making the same decisions over and over again in hopes of finally experiencing a breakthrough just leaves you caught in a viscous cycle".

The pandemic didn't help, but Beyond the Reach of the Sun had already been delayed long before COVID-19 prevented them from performing outside Canada for two-plus years (and counting). Cook's wife nearly passed away from heart complications after giving birth to their first child. "They're happy and healthy now", the grizzled frontman ensures, "but it was a bit of a road".

As if that wasn't enough weight for one metalhead to carry, Anciients were hit with a last-minute hurdle. A month before the band was all set to hunker down at Rain City Recorders, suddenly, they found themselves in search of a new bass player. Fortunately, Justin Hagberg, who plays the soft glowing keyboard on "In the Absence of Wisdom", showed them Bushwhacker's sure-handed bassist Rory O'Brien.

"We got lucky and Rory saved our asses at the last minute", Cook says.

The journey wasn't without plenty of pitfalls, but in the end, Beyond the Reach of the Sun is a testament to Anciients' perseverance. "At its core, this album is all about overcoming adversity in order to seek enlightenment", Cook says. "In the Absence of Wisdom" concludes with the fiercest and most fiery of its three guitar solos, the flaming hammer-ons fanned higher and higher by drummer Mike Hannay's thunderous toms.

"We are now the demons", Cook warns, "Following the footsteps / Of the ones we hate". His growl is deadlier than ever, but it's a prophecy from a band that's lived to tell the tale.

ABOUT GATECREEPER

Formed in 2013, GATECREEPER have spent the last decade steadily climbing the death metal ladder. Their self-titled 2014 EP established instant credibility as purveyors of the old-school form. The band signed with Relapse, releasing their highly acclaimed full-length debut Sonoran Depravation (2016), followed by Deserted (2019). Throughout the years they’ve toured with CANNIBAL CORPSE, IN FLAMES, POWER TRIP, OBITUARY, MUNICIPAL WASTE, and more.

GATECREEPER’s pivotal new album Dark Superstition was released this past May via Nuclear Blast - their label debut. Their sprawling third full-length is more concise, melodic, and memorable than anything they’ve ever done

Dark Superstition deals with the supernatural, divination, fear of the unknown, and trust in magic or chance. The album shapeshifts from one brutal soundscape to the next as each sonic structure rouses its own emotion and landscape.

“Many of the songs incorporate supernatural ideas with my own experiences,” Mason says. “But the title itself is a reference to the Superstition Mountains in our home state of Arizona. It’s a beautiful mountain range surrounded by tragedy and legends of hidden fortune.”

Jason Charles Miller Releases New Single “Digging In The Dust”; New Album ‘Knives In The Dark’ out August 16,

Jason Charles Miller has released “Digging in the Dust,” the debut single from his upcoming new album Knives in the Dark. The song is impacting at Americana radio now, while the album, slated for release August 16, will be supported by a North American tour with Steel Panther that launches August 23 in Buffalo, NY. See complete dates below.

“Timing in relationships is everything. ‘Digging in the Dust’ is about a romance that’s long-since ended, but neither side wants to admit it,” says Miller of the inspiration behind his new single. “We’ve all seen that from afar, but the main character is just figuring out it’s happening to them. The inevitability of the situation is slowly being revealed, and this song is the realization of that moment, and the futility of any future together.”

LISTEN TO “DIGGING IN THE DUST” HERE:

WATCH THE “DIGGING IN THE DUST” VISUALIZER/LYRIC VIDEO BELOW;

An accomplished southern rock/Americana artist, ‘Knives’ will be Miller’s fifth full-length solo album, and first album with new label One Opportunity Records. He has also released multiple EPs and singles, and a host of high-profile soundtrack and theme music work for shows and games including ‘Critical Role,’ ‘Metal Gear Rising,’ ‘Cyberpunk 2077,’ ‘Legends of the Multiverse’ and AEW professional wrestler Brandon Cutler.

“This is the first album I’ve written where my only goal was to write the best songs I can, and not worry about where they might be categorized,” says Miller of ‘Knives in the Dark.’ “By not going out of my way to write for a specific genre, I’ve made what is, hands down, the best – and most representative – album of my career.”

Miller’s music contributions to the Final Fantasy video game franchise have made him a fan favorite to players of the game, and he is featured regularly at Final Fantasy Fan Fest events worldwide, including upcoming officially sanctioned tour stops in China, Japan and South Korea this fall, where he will perform Final Fantasy XIV music alongside all-star ensembles and orchestras.

Widely recognized as the frontman and founder of the rock band Godhead, where he toured the world with the likes of Ozzy Osbourne, Rammstein, Disturbed, Linkin Park, Slipknot and Korn frontman Jonathan Davis, Miller transitioned to a solo artist with the release of his Last To Go Home EP in 2009.

Seamlessly blending the worlds of Americana, rock and country, his solo career has seen him share stages with greats including Billy Ray Cyrus, Alan Jackson, Eric Church, Toby Keith, Ashley McBryde, .38 Special, Allman Betts Band and more.

DIE SO FLUID Unleashes Electrifying New Single "Dispute" with Captivating Lyric Video

“'Dispute' is about the world's addiction to conflict, the type of person who feels entitled to dominate your conversation with their own political agenda presuming you will agree, and the re-balancing of masculine and feminine, addressing antiquated conditioning. The message is to think for yourself. Don't be brainwashed or bullied into adopting someone else's opinion, OR into mindlessly and violently opposing it! Consider with discernment, trust your own inner wisdom." - GROG

Hard rock aficionados, brace yourselves! DIE SO FLUID, the powerhouse trio known for their ferocious sound and dynamic stage presence, are back with a bang. Today, the band is thrilled to announce the release of their incendiary new single "Dispute," accompanied by a mesmerizing lyric video. This release paves the way for their much-anticipated upcoming album, Skin Hunger, set to drop September 20, 2024.

"Dispute" showcases DIE SO FLUID's signature blend of raw energy, melodic hooks, and thought-provoking lyrics. The song is a fierce declaration of defiance and resilience, capturing the band's unrelenting spirit. The accompanying lyric video, a visual feast for the eyes featuring the always compelling work of Anabel DFlux, amplifies the song's intensity, drawing viewers into a world of vibrant colors and powerful imagery.

The lyric video, created by enigmatic front-woman Grog, and inspired by Metalocalypse, is dominated by purple, triangles , elements, and chakras. Grog has increasingly taken up the band's creative baton herself to inject the personal and authentic ethos of DSF throughout their work, pure and undiluted. Grog also created the album artwork, including a 12 page booklet for the Skin Hunger cd, which can be purchased along with shirts, signed art cards and stickers, by visiting the bands crowdfunding campaign! https://igg.me/at/DSFSkinHungerCampaign

The forthcoming album promises to be DIE SO FLUID's most ambitious project yet. With a collection of tracks that explore themes of desire, vulnerability, and the human condition, Skin Hunger is set to deliver a sonic experience that is both visceral and cathartic. Fans can expect a diverse range of songs that push the boundaries of hard rock, showcasing the band's evolution while staying true to their roots.

THE LONELY ONES Release New Single "The Bottom"

Experience the latest sensation from the rock band, The Lonely Ones! Their newest single, "The Bottom," arrived today, July 23, 2024.

Lead vocalist Marty McCoy shares his raw and introspective perspective, stating, “We live in a world where alcohol flows like a great river. It's easy to drown in that river. We try our best to stay afloat."

https://linktr.ee/thelonelyones

Formed in the summer of 2019, The Lonely Ones are a four piece, vocal-oriented hard rock band with an ear for melody and a taste for success. The group features Marty McCoy on guitar / vocals, Tommy Johnson on drums, Jymmy Tolland on guitar / vocals and Tru Roberts on bass / vocals. Being no strangers to the hardships of the music industry, The Lonely Ones consist of former members of Bobaflex. Together, they knew what they wanted and knew how to get it; by combining their knowledge and experiences to achieve a common goal. With determined perseverance and an energized drive to triumph, they were ready to release their first two singles independently in March of 2020; with the titles “Eternal Sadness" and "The Lonely One."

A few months after their initial introduction to the world of rock, the band decided to take a major leap of faith and release their re-imagined version of Queen's classic song "Flash." There’s always the risk of scrutiny and criticism when it comes to covering classic songs, especially ones that are still regarded with high praise from the still thriving fan base, but the band was confident their rendition would not only honor the original but also garner renewed attention for the hit theme. Any doubts were squashed when the song and video were met with rave reviews, including those of Brian May from Queenand Sam J. Jones, Flash Gordon himself.

Brian May was quoted as saying, “What a fantastic cover! I didn’t realize they were going to go into The Hero and the whole reprise ... magnificent!"

Sam J Jones adds, "This is one of the best covers I have ever heard and seen. What a gifted group - The Lonely Ones are for every one of us, from the 1980’s to right now!"

Humbled by the response from fans, listeners and legends in the entertainment industry, the band was spurred on in their pursuit to create groundbreaking original music. In September of 2020, The Lonely Ones released another brand new single titled "Real Big Trouble." What started out as a fun and creative session quickly turned out to be one of their most rewarding. This is one of the heaviest songs the band has ever written, but it also gives a look into what sounds inspire them, such as Thin Lizzy and Beartooth.

By February of 2021, the band had signed on with Imagen Records and released another single called “Change the Station.” This release had 9 active rock stations add the single in the first week and they were a feature artist on Spotify's Rock Hard editorial playlist as well as over 100 other playlists in the first week as well.

The next release through Imagen was "Dyin' All Night Long" in June of 2021. A song about an abusive relationship and how often times excuses are made over and over for that person. The lyrics come from the perspective of a victim having had enough of it.

The band released two more singles titled "Gettin' High" (2021) and “The Way Out”(2022) via Imagen Records before ultimately going independent.
The band spent the summer of 2022 getting back to the grind and writing new songs. The Lonely Ones’ released "Bedroom Door" in October of 2022.

The Lonely Ones have played shows with Sevendust, Nonpoint, Fozzy, Royal Bliss, Seven Year Witch, Black Top Mojo, September Mourning and many more.

In addition, the band is endorsed by: Orange Amps, Westone Audio, Pearl Drums, Sabian Cymbals, Evan's Heads, Vater Sticks, Ibanez, Frog Amplification, Tech 21 Amplification, Michael Kelly Guitars, SIT Strings, Rare Buzz Effects and Strüng, which is guitar string jewelry that raises money for music education.

THRASH LEGENDS, SADUS, DEBUT NEW LYRIC VIDEO FOR 'THE DEVIL IN ME' AHEAD OF EUROPEAN FESTIVAL DATES

In anticipation for their upcoming return to Europe, East Bay thrash metal legends SADUS have revealed a new lyric video for ‘The Devil In Me’, from their latest album, The Shadow Inside, available from Nuclear Blast Records. The band will be perform a hometown warm up show in Petaluma, CA on July 27th before heading across the Atlantic for European festivals.

SADUS Tour Dates:

July 27 - Petaluma, CA - Phoenix Theater

Aug 8 - Nottertal-Heilinger Heights, DE - Party San Open Air Festival

Aug 9 - Kortrijk, BE - Alcatraz Metal Festival

Aug 10 - Josefov, CZ - Brutal Assault Festival

Aug 11 - Derbyshire, UK - Bloodstock Open Air Festival

‘THE DEVIL IN ME’ LYRIC VIDEO

SADUS is currently touring in support of The Shadow Inside, which was released in November 2023 with Nuclear Blast Records. The band’s 6th full-length was recorded with Juan Urteaga (EXODUS, TESTAMENT, MACHINE HEAD) at Trident Studios and features ominous artwork by accomplished artist Travis Smith (FLESHGOD APOCALPYSE, OPETH). Their first record in 17 years is a contemporary thrash classic with colossal, groove-laden riffs at break-neck rhythm and blistering solos as heard on blistering tracks like ‘Scorched And Burnt,’ ‘It’s The Sickness’ and ‘Ride The Knife,” that further cement the band’s legacy as one of thrash metal’s most quintessential bands.

About SADUS:

After 17 long years since SADUS last bestowed a new record upon the world, the band unleashed the beast once again with the release of their 6th full-length album, The Shadow Inside, with Nuclear Blast Records in November 2023.

Adorned with the compelling artwork of Travis Smith, the album cover depicts an all-consuming demon of the cosmos fiercely enveloping a tortured soul beneath, perfectly encapsulating the vision and duality that the songs on this record deliver. Founder and drummer Jon Allen shares his excitement about working with Travis once again, reminiscing about their collaboration on Elements of Anger. He points out that several tracks on the new album, such as ‘The Devil In Me’ and ‘The Shadow Inside,’ revolve around the idea of an internal entity constantly pushing us. At times, one might find themselves at the edge of reason, attributing their actions to the shadow within, an external force they blame for their choices. While not a concept album per-se, every song deals with life decisions and the importance of taking responsibility for one's actions to unlock the best life has to offer. The track ‘The Shadow Inside’ boasts a heavier and slower tone, with a touch of classic, gut-wrenching grind, creating a fitting climax to the album.

A formidable darkness flows through tracks like ‘Anarchy’. Evidently influenced by the tumultuous post-Covid times of mass hysteria, looting, and general loss of control, the melody reflects this chaotic environment. Allen describes the track as “more straightforward and in-your-face, hitting listeners right in the gut. ”Despite the intensity, SADUS manages to retain their signature death/thrash blend, staying true to their old-school roots. The aggression remains palpable, allowing their music to speak for itself with raw, unapologetic power.

‘Scorched and Burnt’ follows suit, with its steady beat and chaotic vocals seamlessly intertwining with blistering guitar work. The track gradually transitions into an impassioned melody, igniting a fiery explosion as the song nears its conclusion. Although inspired by the literal wildfires that plagued California during its creation, ‘Scorched and Burnt’ delves deeper into the idea that individuals often feel like someone or something is constantly out to get them. Yet, in the end, the song urges unity, recognizing that every action, even in chaos, ripples through the lives of others.

The process of creating The Shadow Inside was unhurried and unencumbered by unnecessary roadblocks. SADUS allowed their creativity to flow naturally, collecting riffs and writing together in person. The band took their time, nurturing and developing their musical ideas until they evolved into the powerful tracks we hear today. Allen emphasizes that their drama-free and family-oriented approach to making music is one of the reasons their sound speaks so powerfully to their fans. Collaborating with Juan Urteaga of Trident Studios added another layer of refinement to the album, as his expertise in death metal played a vital role in shaping its overall sound.

All that being said, SADUS is not a band that simply stands apart from the crowd for the sake of being different. They stand tall, unswayed by mass hysteria and media influences, choosing to make their own decisions and encourage others to do the same. In a world filled with disinformation and false flags, they emphasize the importance of being smart, using common sense, thinking for ourselves, and remaining aware of our surroundings.

With their uncompromising vision, SADUS continues to stand as a beacon of authenticity and integrity within the heavy metal community, forever forging their path in the ever-evolving landscape of music.

Bodysnatcher release new track & video "Infested"

Heavy Floridian quartet Bodysnatcher have released their latest track and music video "Infested." The punishing track is featured on the band's EP, Vile Conduct, releasing digitally on September 3 via MNRK Heavy.

Bodysnatcher's Kyle Carter says, "'Infested' is about falling back into depression over and over again. It’s about being on the cusp of giving up and telling yourself that you’re going to do whatever you can to heal and come out okay on the other end. Depression is a lifelong fight, and we’re always going to feel like it’s important to talk about.”

In addition to previously announced EU dates, today, the band announces their extensive U.S. fall tour in support of Fit For An Autopsy.  These dates kick off on October 18, 2024, at the Palladium in Worcester, MA, and wrap on November 17 at Toad's Place in New Haven.  Full dates are below.

Watch the sinister visual for "Infested" directed by Errick Easterday below:

The band previously released the tracks "Human Disdain," "Severed" and MURDER8 ft. Jamey Jasta from the EP.  The Vile Conduct  EP sheds light on the human race being disgusting and realizing that it is also part of all of us, whether we want it to or not. Produced by the legendary Will Putney (Fit for an Autopsy, END, Knocked Loose), Vile Conduct touches on personal tales of loss at the hands of addiction and substance, all through a unique lens of bitter remorse and ruthless aggression that only Bodysnatcher could provide.

Since their 2014 inception in Melbourne, Florida, Bodysnatcher have been bringing nothing but the finest in furious, extreme music. Combining crushing breakdowns with eerie ambience, scathing riffs and grisly grooves, the band have become synonymous with “heavy,” invoking violence in every city they happen to visit, spawning mosh pits that leave nothing but craters in their wake.

THREE GUESTS, SURPRISE SONGS: Kenny Rocks LA's SoFi Stadium

Twenty-four shows into a summer that’s seen the songwriter/superstar from East Tennessee shattering attendance records, besting his own numbers and often moving his stage all the way to the back wall, Kenny Chesney hit Los Angeles like a favorite son come home. Without missing a beat, he moved from a high velocity “Living in Fast Forward” to a surging medley of “Beer In Mexico,” “Keg In The Closet” and guitar-forward “KC/DC,” then a double time “Here And Now” as he returned to SoFi Stadium. The only country act – and second overall to the Rolling Stones – to bring two tours through the Inglewood, Calif.-based venue, the crowd was up and ready for whatever the night might hold.

“You can tell when you hit the stage,” reflected the eight-time Entertainer of the Year, “when an audience is ready to bring everything they’ve got. No Shoes Nation more than showed up at SoFi; they sang hard, were on their feet from the beginning and really leaning into songs that set a positive vibe for living life in the moment.”

Beyond multiple week No. 1s “Summertime,” “Get Along,” “American Kids” and “Save It For A Rainy Day,” the man the Wall Street Journal called “The King of the Road” blazed through fan favorites “Somewhere With You,” “Never Wanted Nothing More,” “How Forever Feels” and “Young.” Even more thrilling: three special guests, who each joined Chesney for a pair of songs.

First up was Uncle Kracker, who romped through the pair’s five week No. 1, double-Platinum smash “When The Sun Goes Down,” followed by sharing Mentor Williams’ “Drift Away,” which Kracker took to No. 1 for 28 weeks on Billboard’s Adult Contemporary chart. That turned straight into a euphoric rendition of “All The Pretty Girls” with Megan Moroney, rolling into a romping rendition of “She Thinks My Tractor’s Sexy.”

But the evening’s biggest surprise was Kelsea Ballerini, who the stadium-sized headliner hadn’t realized was in California. Surprising him Saturday with an ask to come sing, the pair dueted on their Country Music Association award-winning “half of my hometown,” as well as a yearning rendition of Chesney’s Grace Potter pairing “You & Tequila.”

“The beauty of music, especially live music, is that every day is different, and every day it will surprise you,” he said after the show. “If you’re in-the-moment of it, you can sing with three really good friends in the same show, and know that will never happen again…”

Certainly, for an audience who bestowed Chesney with license plates invoking song titles from Arizona (DOWNDRD), California (LYKWEDO) and Nevada (1MRSNST), it was a night where music set the tone and delivered a kind of rapture that saw the crowd waving their arms from side-to-side song-after-song and taking chorus-after-chorus along with Chesney and band.

“It’s fun when my friends come out and sing with me,” Chesney says of the night’s collaborations. “It makes the music seem alive. It’s like hearing No Shoes Nation: that’s when all the happy and the magic come together.”

Presented by Blue Chair Bay® Rum, it’s all about the friends, high energy and songs people know by heart.
