Fifteen years after the release of his debut album, multi-Platinum country-rock trailblazer Brantley Gilbert knows life has a way of leaving a mark. You can either hide it or embrace it. “All my albums, they capture a chapter of my life,” Gilbert explains. “If somebody wants to know who I am, what I’ve been through and where I stand, they can start at the beginning and listen through, and that’s why it was undeniable that Tattoosshould be the title – because my tattoos do the same thing.
 
“People get ‘em for a lot of reasons, but for most of us, tattoos talk about our victories and losses, our struggles and the whole nine,” he observes. “I was one of those kids who had to learn the hard way. But if I would've listened to the advice of others, I don’t know I would have ended up where I am.”
 
Featuring 10 songs all co-written by Gilbert with a trusted cast of long-time collaborators, the set matches Gilbert’s ink in both striking design and depth of meaning. Through flowing curves and jagged lines, shadow and light look back on a life of blue-collar pride and full-throttle rebellion – along with addictive love, abiding faith and blessings beyond what any of us deserve.
 
With today’s announcement, Gilbert shares a preview of the forthcoming project with “Me And My House” ft. Struggle Jennings and Demun Jones, a hand-over-heart declaration of purpose and a defiant tip of the hat to the independent country rap world Gilbert has always admired, as each collaborator wrote and performed their own verses.
 
“I believe that all of us are the kings and queens of our own castle, and I would never in a million years tell somebody how to run their home,” shares Gilbert. “It’s just about sharing how we run ours, what home is to us. I think it’s a song people won’t just relate to; I think it’s a song we need.”

The free multi-artist concert is part of FREEDOM FRIDAY events kicking off the Big Machine Music City Grand Prix weekend (September 13-15). The 160th Special Ops Aviation Regiment will perform a helicopter aerial demonstration and a pre-concert flyover by the 101st Airborne Division.

Extinction A.D. Release New Track "Epidemic Of Mutation" And Official Video (via Unique Leader Records)

Extinction A.D. have released their latest banger "Epidemic Of Mutation" and the official video (via Unique Leader Records). Speaking on today's release, the band commented:

"We always love working in dynamics in a song and Epidemic is us taking that to the extreme. Combining the most ripping of riffs and an ultra hooky chorus while remaining so heavy is what’s really been getting us off on this record. Throwing in some real stompy things and not being afraid of the quieter parts in conjunction with that has been real exciting and expressive with this song. 

Lyrically, we’re always on the frustration tip which only matches the music but in 2024 more and more people look past the lyrics element. “Shut up and play!” is more prevalent than reading into what your listening to. The whole world is like that now. The media barely has to lie to us anymore. Three people can read the same synopsis of an event and mold it however they want it to fit their narrative. Some people like to keep that under wraps for fear of alienation despite their world view being based around alienating others. Sometimes I’m so overwhelmed by this that I absorb it and throw my hands up. “What the fuck can I even do about anything? What the fuck can anyone do about anything?!” The mutation of fact becoming alterable narrative is the ultimate epidemic." 

Prior to today, the band unleashed "Impervious" featuring the inimitable Matthew Kiichi Heafy of Trivium. Gaerea arrived shrouded in mystery. The masked sensations emerged from pandemic limbo with a vision for black metal that was guided not by myths or pagan beliefs but a purging of emotion. Existential dread still pulses through the Portuguese band's blood, but their upcoming fourth album signals a shift in psychology.

With Coma, Gaerea are no longer strictly a black metal band. Instead, they're breaking to the forefront of extreme metal. Though their new album was produced by trusted confidant Miguel Tereso, it broadens the band's signature sound by taking it in two seemingly opposed directions. There are more moments of intense beauty, but they only heighten the ensuing blows. 

The world may be as hopeless as the album's lead single declares. But with Coma, Gaerea have returned to prove that they are only the band who can guide us into the darkness.

When Gaerea secretly gave everyone a sneak peek at their new album back in April, they set the world ablaze. Now, with the first official single off Coma, they're ushering in the immediate aftermath. "Hope Shatters" opens with a lone guitar that wails like a siren before a whirl of blast beats sucks the world back into the band's vortex.

"Welcome to the urban abyss", their unnamed vocalist pronounces. "Where dreams turn to rust". 

Gaerea aren't afraid to embrace harsh realities. There's clean singing on Coma, but the swarming darkness of "Hope Shatters" is only punctured by cries of agony. Even when the song collapses under its blistering heaviness, the melody hangs perilously in the air, like a swaying chandelier, before it's smashed to pieces by hammering bass and concussive drum fills.

Still, perhaps Gaerea have uncovered a shred of hope from beneath the blackened wreckage. As "Hope Shatters" meets its end, the band push ahead through the ashes with a triumphant, headbanging riff. "Enter the maze through the never-ending haze".  

With "Hope Shatters", Gaerea deliver an anthem for our dying era.

To usher in this new era, Gaerea are touring behind Coma later this year. The masked sensations will return to North America in November with Zeal & Ardor and ZETRA.

Fame On Fire Announce New Album "The Death Card" + Band Shares Live Video of Hit Single "Nightmare (The Devil)"

Fame on Fire — singer Bryan Kuznitz, Blake Saul (guitarist), Paul Spirou(bass), and Alex Roman (drums) — have announced their new album The Death Card. It arrives September 6 on Hopeless Records. Pre-order it here. 

The band roared into 2024 with the new single "Nightmare (The Devil)." This venomous track was just the first taste of what the band has been working on and is #15 at Active Rock Radio. The latest single employs all the drama of a classic tragedy. Cinematic keys and hooks live alongside an ominous spoken-word on the bridge: "Dear beloved we are here today in the final resting place to seal their fate."

"It's a Romeo & Juliet-style story," Kuznitz reveals. "The sentiment is 'If I'm going to love you, I'm going to die for it, and I'm okay with that.' With 'The Lovers Card,' you're sacrificing your life to make a relationship work."

Tarot cards might give perspective, soothe the uncertainty of mental health, or simply enable you to make better sense of your life. Fame on Fire use music in much the same way. The Florida quartet process frustrations, fears, and feelings with a malleable musicality, matching emotions to moments of precise hard rock, piano-laden melody, manic electronics, and relatable pop catharsis. The band initially materialized out of South Florida with a distinct and dynamic vision. Following a series of inventive and innovative viral covers, they served up the original Transitions EP in 2017. They maintained their momentum with 2020's LEVELS. "Her Eyes" gathered over 15.5 million Spotify streams followed by "HEADSPACE" [feat. POORSTACY] with 13.1 million Spotify streams. Welcome to the Chaos saw them ascend yet again fueled by the likes of "Plastic Heart" and "Welcome to the Chaos" [feat. Spencer Charnas of Ice Nine Kills]. The latter vaulted into the Top 15 at Rock Radio. The band also toured alongside Falling In Reverse, Ice Nine Kills, and ONE OK ROCK. In between selling out headline gigs, the guys decamped to Los Angeles in order to record Death Card with producer Erik Ron [Godsmack, Motionless In White, Panic! At The Disco]. "This was our first time working with a producer," recalls Bryan. "Erik kept us on track, and he pushed me as a lyricist and songwriter to make everything cohesive." Threading this body of work together even tighter, each song corresponds to its own tarot card.

BEWITCHER Shares Music Video for New Single, "Out Against The Law," Announces Pre-Orders for 'Spell Shock'

All the best tunes belong to the Devil, and Portland’s bastard sons BEWITCHER have returned to take back rock n’ roll in Baphomet’s name. The speed demons are now unveiling the anthemic new single, "Out Against the Law," from their new upcoming album, 'Spell Shock,' due September 27 on on Century Media Records. Joining Von Bewitcher, bassist A. Magus, and drummer A. Hunter in the studio this time was none other longtime BEWITCHER fan Lars Frederiksen. Most of the world knows Frederiksen as a force in his own right, playing in the likes of Bay Area punk heroes Rancid, as well as his own Old Firm Casuals. While to some, it may have been an unlikely pairing with Frederiksen taking the producer’s seat, for everyone in the studio the connection was immediate.

Indie occult film under the black rainbow by Flint Michigan's own KING 810 is out now

KING 810 have released their next project, under the black rainbow, an episodic film series accompanied by a soundtrack of the same name. It's available here.

The follow up to 2023's follow my tears is the group's most uniquely ambitious piece of work yet.

David Gunn, Eugene Gill, and familiar cohorts independently funded, wrote, directed, produced, filmed, acted, edited, and distributed under the black rainbow. The band has once again teamed up with producer Josh Schroeder for the writing and recording of the musical portion of the film.

The story unfolds when KING 810 encounter an enchanted instrument belonging to the angelic priest King Melchizedek...

Hellfest Donates 1 Million Euro to Savage Lands

Savage Lands are still buzzing after their performance on the main stage at Hellfest. Today, the musician-run 501(c) 3 non-profit is thrilled to announce that the festival is donating one million Euro to support their ongoing reforestation efforts in Costa Rica and Europe! 

"This is a historical move by Hellfest and a great signal to the music industry", says musician-turned-activist Sylvain Demercastel, who founded Savage Lands with Megadeth drummer Dirk Verbeuren. "Such an extraordinarily generous donation from a renowned festival is just another example of the many ways that the metal community supports each other".

Hellfest's donation is just one part of a five-year partnership. Savage Lands will continue to host a booth on the festival grounds. This year, Bill Hudson (I Am Morbid), members of Dimmu Borgir and other metalheads stopped by their booth to learn more about the green zones, nature sanctuaries and other biodiversity preservation projects that they are building in Costa Rica. The non-profit has protected 60,000 square feet of rain forest using 100% of the royalties from their music.

"As a non-profit, we depend on the support of our listeners, other organizations and fellow artists", Sylvain says.

Many of their famous friends showed up to support Savage Lands at Hellfest. Sylvain was backed by familiar faces in Florian Pons (Loco Muerte) and Poun and Etienne Treton (Black Bomb A). Andreas Kisser (Sepultura) and Daniel de Jongh (Textures) joined for their entire set, which kicked off with "The Last Howl", a fitting tribute to the endangered howler monkey. Chloe Trujillio hopped on for the blackened groove of "Black Rock Heart", followed by Silje Wergeland (The Gathering) who sang along to the band's new melancholic single "No Remedy".

Alissa White-Gluz (Arch Enemy) and Sakis Tolis (Rotting Christ) pledged their support via video. So did Maria Franz from Heilung, who are also partnering with Savage Lands. The Nordic collective are donating $1 for every ticket sold on their US tour to support the non-profit's reforestation efforts.

As if that wasn't enough starpower, for their grand finale, Savage Lands brought out Jesper Liveröd (Nasum) Alejandro Montoya (Cultura tres) Billy Graziadei (Biohazard) and Shane Embury (Napalm Death) for a bloody, screaming rendition of "Roots".   

"I've known Andreas for such a long time," says Shane Embury. "It was great sharing the stage with him and all of these wonderful musicians. Meeting and becoming friends with Sylvain and the rest of his band was a beautiful experience.

"Making true creative connections like this is so important" Shane continues. "That's a big part of what draws me to Savage Lands. We are connected with every living thing on this planet and their organization is helping to preserve nature's treasures. I'm happy to be a part of such a truly important cause".  

Some of the artists who performed with Savage Lands at Hellfest have already committed to working on their upcoming album, which will be released by Season of Mist. In the meantime, Sylvain and Dirk are still looking for more festivals and other prominent members of the metal community to join the army of trees.

"Our goals are attainable" Sylvain says. "By converting the land that we purchase into nature sanctuaries, Savage Lands will help set a precedent for environmental activism. But we must act quickly. Ecosystems are still under attack. If we don't, then there won't be any wildlife left to save".

Just listening to their music helps support Savage Lands. 100% of their song royalties fund the non-profit’s preservation efforts in Costa Rica.

Artists occasionally support causes through donations to organizations. With SAVAGE LANDS, Megadeth drummer Dirk Verbeuren teamed up with his guitar-wielding friend Sylvain Demercastel to create their own US 501(c)3 non-profit.

Savage Lands raises money for reforestation and the creation of sanctuaries free of human destruction in Costa Rica. Using their own royalties, donations and other fundraising efforts, the organization builds nature sanctuaries, establishes green zones and other land preservation projects. They partner with other non-profits, scientists and forest engineers, as well as Decibel Magazine and Season of Mist.

Veteran Midwest metallists Conquest returned with their latest album, and have just unleashed their latest single and lyric video from it, "Celtic Mist.”

Concerning the new single/video, the group's singer and guitarist, Derrick Brumley, explained: "Celtic Mist is a great track that has a different feel to it than everything on the record. It leads off with bass guitar and the song is driven by the low end, and the bass guitar hook. Rob Boyer was in Ireland and came back with this great vibe and idea for the tune. Very strong and rhythm-driven. One of my favorite tunes on the record!" 
 
'Paradox' is available as two vinyl records or a single CD (plus available on all streaming services), the album continues in the same direction as their previous studio offerings, as evidenced by such standout tracks as "Walking Dead" and "The Writings on the Wall" (both of which have already been issued as music videos), as well as a cover of the Rainbow classic, "Man on the Silver Mountain.”

The Intemperate Sons emerged onto the rock scene in the summer of 2019 in Dallas, TX, to bring their distinct sound to the genre. A deep love for music brought family members Keith Watson (drums), Jake Watson (guitars) and Max Watson (vocals, guitars, keys) together along with close friend Mark Marks, who provides the groove on bass to unite everything together. The band's sound has been described as a 90's alternative style that is obsessed with the 70's.

Keith is well acquainted with entertaining massive crowds of concert goers and has played with many successful bands in Dallas, such as Gun Hill, Natural Born Thrillersand Agents of Solace, on top of opening for Lynch Mob, Joe Lynn Turner and Sponge. He is the primary lyricist for the band and has written the music for some of their most successful songs, including “Dust to Dust,” “The Color Within,” and “Unrealized.”

Multi-talented and gifted with the ability to play various instruments, Max is also the lead vocalist of the group. Along with being musically dexterous, he has also collaborated with Keith to write lyrics on the released songs “Going Crazy” and “Way Back When.” In the studio, Max usually surmounts expectations and goes above and beyond to prepare prior to a session with his own vocal harmonies.

Jake is the song architect of the Sons and extremely instrumental in the crafting of the music. His inventive ways of bringing lyrics to life in clever ways are unprecedented and fascinating to see in the studio setting. He is a prolific writer of music as well and is credited with helping create the songs “What’s Done is Done,” “Remission,” “Way Back When” and “Wading in the Gray.” Both Max and he play lead guitar on many of the songs as well. The other members of the band fondly refer to him as the “art director” since he enjoys taking charge in those areas for the group.

Prolific and unifying, Mark is an accomplished bass player and well known in Dallas. He was in the regionally successful band, Haggard, and had opened for Sebastian Bach of Skid Row. His input in song writing has been invaluable to the process of creating captivating melodies.

Despite the pandemic putting a pause on many major events, The Intemperate Sonslived up to their name and let nothing hold them back from making music. Constantly hard at work in the studio, they have collaborated with Amir Derakh (Julien-K, Dead by Sunrise, Orgy, Rough Cutt) and Ryan Shuck (Julien-K, Adema, Dead by Sunrise, Orgy). Both have lent their musical talents to various songs and ultimately have brought the Sons on to their label, Frame|Work. This led the band to also recently join the management roster at The Label Group. Ryan worked with Amir to produce the band’s upcoming track, “Game of Keep Away,” and has had a huge impact on the group. He’s been especially influential on Max’s vocal melodies and delivery. Amir also plays guitar on this latest ballad and has been mixing all of the band’s music as well as performing on multiple songs.

Another notable collaboration has been with Tony Franklin (The Firm, Roy Harper, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Whitesnake), primarily on the first album, The Color Within. He has been a valuable friend of the band and has played bass on some of their best tracks from that album, including “Running Man,” “Dust to Dust” and “The Color Within.”

The Intemperate Sons’ take on alternative rock is a dark and powerful concoction of hard rock mixed with folk and grunge concepts. The band has earned a serious reputation for writing and performing tracks that scratch deep into the backbone of the human experience. There is no shortage of darkness in their writing style, which has a retro vibe with many guitar-driven tracks stacked on top of a groovy rhythm section. The heavier style fits perfectly with the two and three-part vocal harmonies that are a huge part of their overall sound. It has been said that musicians that are related form unique sounds and communicate at a frequency only they can understand. This frequency has become engrained in their songwriting, arrangements, guitar melodies and vocal harmonies. The band has been compared to Alice in Chains, Stone Temple Pilots and even R.E.M.

Mexican death grind band BRUJERIA put the world of cartels and ritualistic murder on wax with a brutal power equivalent to when Compton arrived in pop culture via NWA. This Fall, the band is heading on the road for their 'Mexorcita Tour 2024' with special guests TRIBAL GAZE (9/5-9/10) and CANCER CHRIST (9/21-9/27). The 25-date trek will kick off on August 29th in Long Beach, CA and will make its way to Dallas, Brooklyn, and St. Louis before concluding in Los Angeles on September 27th.

Esto Es Brujeria was recorded worldwide at the following studios: Dog Run Studio in Riverside, CA; Total Annihilation Studios in East Los Angeles, CA; Robanna’s in Birmingham, UK; and Audiocustom in Santiago, Chile. Production of the record was handled by the band while engineering was a joint effort between Eddie Casillas, Eddie Rivas, and Miguel Seco. The mixing and mastering of the album was completed by Seba Puente who was also a part of the engineering team. The album artwork was created by Gary Ronaldson. Esto Es Brujeriasaw the return of their metal mascot Coco Loco who is emblazoned on the ferocious cover.

Post Profit Share "Two Toxic" Video — WATCH // Band Touring Through Fall

Last year, POST PROFIT — Matt Jackson [vocals, guitar], Nick Hawner [guitar +vocals], Zach Hicks [drums + vocals], and Charles Horin [bass + vocals] — released their six-song EP, Self Defeater.

And thus, the buzz on the band began.

Today, Post Profit have shared the official video for the single "Two Toxic."

The video was directed by David Brodsky of MyGoodEye. It was shot at the historic Lynnewood Hall, a 110-room Gilded Age mansion in the Philadelphia suburb of Elkins Park, Pennsylvania, which originally opened all the way back in 1899. Learn more about this majestic location here.

"With this video, we wanted to do something we've never done before," the band states. "Lynnewood Hall's aesthetic felt like we were able to really depict the song to its truest form. Thanks to the amazing team of Dave Brodsky and Allie Woest at MyGoodEye for securing this incredible shoot location and making it all happen.  We are very excited with how it came out and we hope you all feel the same."

ABOUT POST PROFIT:
Some would say Post Profit have been waiting for this moment since the cradle, with each member being introduced to musical instruments between the ages of 2 to 6. 

Zach and Matt forged a friendship as toddlers ever since their moms became best friends from church in Longview, TX. Nick would later learn of Matt's vocal prowess through the high school intercom. "Matt's father was the high school principal," explains Nick. "And he'd have Matt on there in the mornings singing about refraining from drugs and alcohol and striving for good school attendance." 

Over the next few years, the trio would really get to know each other from attending and performing at local shows. Nick and Zach especially hit it off and quickly became inseparable, spending much of their time listening to music, eager to put their own band together. Meanwhile, Matt was sinking his teeth into a Dallas based metalcore band called Far From Earth.
 
During early 2017, Matt started hosting open jams every Sunday at a smoky East Texas dive bar and one night asked Zach to join on drums. Zach dragged his new friend Nick along on guitar and the trio quickly formed a strong musical bond. They would soon start slipping originals into their covers sets and after months of unrelenting practices and bar jams they booked their first show at a Halloween party in Tyler, TX.
 
With the experience of countless gigs across the South, Post Profit soon gained a reputation for their commanding and impactful live performance, including powerful 2021 and 2022 performances at Welcome To Rockville in Daytona, FL. Rallying around influences such as Deftones, Incubus, Failure, and Quicksand, the band refined their original songs and sound into what would become their 2022 debut self-produced album When You Think It's Right It's Always Wrong. The release garnered over a million cumulative streams independently, and the success of their single "Smother" grabbed the attention of SharpTone Records, eventually landing them a deal.

When it was time to hit the road in support of their 2024 Self Defeater EP, the guys turned to Los Angeles native Charles Horin to round out the lineup on bass. "Charles was previously in a band called Analog Party," explains Nick. "And they had very heavy influences from Failure, one of our favorite bands, so we knew right away he would be a great fit musically."
 
With the release of Self Defeater, Post Profit have you right where they want you, existing in a constant state of evolution while ushering hard rock forward with them. Masterfully crafted to leave the listener wanting more, this is Post Profit letting the world know who they are.

Tim Montana forges a new frontier for hard rock. Along the way, he performed on The Late Show with David Letterman at the behest of the host (practically unheard of for a totally independent artist), collaborated with everyone from Billy F Gibbons to Kid Rock (cracking the charts for the first time), made a fan out of Charlie Sheen (who directed the "Mostly Stoned" video), and even attracted his idol Dave Grohl to his corner. Forged by a long grind, he fulfilled his destiny in 2023. Tim shook the rock world with "Devil You Know." Christened "flawless" and "One of the 30 Best Rock + Metal Songs of 2023" by Loudwire, the breakout single surged onto Billboard’s Mainstream Rock Airplay and Rock & Alternative Airplay charts. In its wake, iHeartRadio touted him as an "On The Verge Artist." Soon, he found himself booked for tours with Staind, Seether, Saint Asonia, Bush, and Jerry Cantrell of Alice In Chains (another hero of Tim's). Simultaneously, he and Gibbons purchased an historic bar and hotel Wise River Club in Wise River, MT. Coming back home to Montana inspired him to go even wilder on his 2024 full-length album, Savage. Brooklyn-based experimental electronic artist Pas Musique is ready to reveal his new full-length album 'Come Follow Me', released via NYC-based label Alrealon Musique.  Prepare to be led down a shadowy sonic path on this new full-length exploration of electronic dissonance with seven tracks that pays homage to the late Frank Tovey a.k.a. Fad Gadget.

With roots deriving from 80's synthpop, these compositions offer a touch of modern noise, lyrics that are inspired by metaphysical and philosophical themes, and abstract vocalizations. These electro-krautrock-influenced tracks were previewed by the title track and the single 'Too Civilized', which blasts the myth of progress, implying that the shiny veneer of progress masks a society and systems that have been degraded - a regression of our own making.

Influenced by such artists as Faust, Coil, Zoviet France and NEU, Pas Musique was launched in 1995 Brooklyn as a solo abstract-sound project of founder Robert L. Pepper, having since evolved through different lineups and variations of experimental electronic iterations.

The new album follows up 2023's 'Shaman' album and 2021's 'Amateur Radio', when Pas Musique was a four-piece consisting of Jon V Worthley, Michael Durek, Jesse Fairbairn and Robert L. Pepper. While still involved with live performances (and other recordings currently in the works, it is solely Pepper involved in the new album.

"This is the first album where I added vocals and not solely vocalizations. It's a balance of the commercial and the strange. It is a tribute to the pop-industrial project Fad Gadget so I tried to keep my experimental edge and add in some pop elements. I never thought I would be trying something like this. But if you know Pas Musique's history, we change periodically with different styles. I like to keep the sound fresh and challenge the project sonically," says Robert L. Pepper.

"It started with a concept of "Could I make an album with vocals, while dipping into a pop edge?" So I wrote sequences that use some 80's sounding synth sounds in the style of Fad Gadget. Then the vocals just came to me. 'Come Follow Me' was the first track that materialized and then the workflow began. Tracks just evolve naturally."

Since emerging on the music scene 29 years ago, Pas Musique has pursued musical elements of electronic and experimental music with krautrock undertones. Pas Musique has collaborated with many great musicians, including Faust, Rapoon, ZEV, Philippe Petit, HATI, Chester Hawkins, Jim Tuite, and many more. Pas Musique has performed in 18 countries and throughout the United States. Pas Music is also currently working with Robin Storey of Rapoon on other completely avant, experimental, improvisational compositions.

On July 12, the 'Come Follow Me' album will be available everywhere digitally, including Spotify, Apple Music and Bandcamp. It will also be released by Alrealon Musique on CD.

Portland's iconic outfit Federale present their sixth studio album 'Reverb & Seduction' album, out July 12 via Jealous Butcher Records.  Led by Collin Hegna, Federale marks 20 years with this release. A member of The Brian Jonestown Massacre for equally as long, Hegna has been party to a lot of feedback & fuzzed out guitars in his time.

'Reverb & Seduction' is a 10-track tour-de-force road trip from psych rock to country duets, never straying too far from the spaghetti western roots that inspired the band many blood-moons ago. What began as an homage to those cinematic soundscapes of the Italian 60s has evolved well past those not-so-humble beginnings. Today's Federale draws from inspirations as wide ranging as Depeche Mode, Nick Cave, Lee Hazlewood and also, naturally, BJM.

The throughline in all these influences is a penchant for the darkly romantic. Our narrator guiding us through these stories delivers the news in deep baritone reflecting the gravitas of the song’s arrangements. Distorted guitars, mellotrons and 70s inspired string arrangements sit side by side with driving drum patterns and moaning pedal steel. This goat's head alphabet soup of inspirations mingles to create a sum stranger than the whole of its parts. A siren calls us in the night towards certain destruction, but its song is so beautiful we cannot resist.  

These musical homages involve a lineup of well-known Portland rock-scene vets, including talents from The Dandy Warhols, The Shivas, Roselit Bone, Rogue Wave and Delines.  Members of The Black Angels, Jenny Don’t & The Spurs, Mission Spotlight and Courtney Barnett's band also contribute, as well as Grammy nominee Hunter Lea (Nancy Sinatra / Lee Hazlewood reissue producer) and Andrew Joslyn (Nancy Wilson, Kei$ha, Macklemore, Mark Lanegan)

“This album to me represents the culmination of 20 years of sonic exploration. With each record I’ve allowed a few more genres and musical influences into the playground. And with this, our 6th full length, I wanted to see how well they all played together at once. I was curious what happened when you crossed 80s deathrock with 70s folk balladeer stylings. Or 60s acid jams with string laden country crooning. It turns out it works pretty well,” says Collin Hegna.

"Before, I'd have an idea and think, 'Well, that can't be a Federale song', because it had distorted guitars or whatever. But then I thought, 'Well, why not?'" 

Recorded at Revolver Studios in Portland, this album was engineered by Collin Hegna, Matt Thomson and Andrew Joslyn, who boasts five 5 Grammy Award winning albums. Mixed by Hegna with Jeff Stuart Saltzman (The Black Keys, The High Violets) and Matt Thomson, it was mastered by Adam Gonsalves at Telegraph Mastering.

This openness to a broader palette of influences allows 'Reverb & Seduction' to veer into psychedelic and even gothic territory - think Love and Rockets or Sisters of Mercy - that the 2010s Federale might have considered off limits. For instance, the album's first single 'Heaven Forgive Me' draws on Goblin (the Italian prog-rockers who scored 'Suspiria') and a little Depeche Mode, and the 'No Strangers'is a sonic tribute to Lee Hazlewood, while the third single 'Advice From A Stranger' borrows the fuzz and feedback of DIG!-era BJM and The Electric Prunes. 

Beginning to color outside those Ennio Morricone lines, perhaps Hegna has finally decided to give his psych-rock alter ego a seat at the Federale table. For all these rumblings of change, 'Reverb & Seduction' is still very much a Federale record, and longtime fans will find plenty of the cinema-ready soundscapes they've come to expect. 

Federale has carved out a unique niche within the indie music landscape, blending their signature spaghetti-Western instrumental sound with increasing doses of moody vocal arrangements in the spirit of Lee Hazlewood and late-period Leonard Cohen. Through it all, Hegna – as both songwriter and lead singer – maintains a strictly retro vibe. Federale's records have always sounded period-correct for an alternate-universe 1971, where rock and roll never caught on.

The film industry continues to take notice as well: The band's latest licensing successes include placing tracks in the trailer for the Colin Farrell / Brendan Gleeson vehicle 'Banshees Of Inisherin', as well as in the Kate Hudson thriller 'Mona Lisa & The Blood Moon' and Swiss action/comedy 'Mad Heidi'.

As of July 12, 'Reverb & Seduction' album will be everywhere digitally, including Apple Music, Spotify, Tidal and Band camp. It will also be released on CD and limited edition vinyl, available via the net and from fine record dealers.

Federale's 'Reverb & Seduction' tour, which takes them up and down the U.S. West coast and beyond, kicks off in Portland on July 12 with their album release show. A European tour is anticipated in late fall 2024.
