OCEANS OF SLUMBER Release Cover of "Wicked Game"

The Houston metal band are performing their upcoming new album at Metal Injection Festival and Mad With Power

"One of modern metal's brightest hopes" - Metal Hammer

"A band that nails a unique balance and has the potential to do whatever they want" - Angry Metal Guy (4/5)

"Masterful compositions that reveal more secrets with each listen" - Metal Injection (9/10)

"Dark, turbulent, and above all, incredibly emotional" - New Noise (4/5)

"They are the new Southern gothic, and you need to pay attention" - Distorted Sound (9/10)

"This band is truly something special" - Ghost Cult (8/10)

Since their star turn in 2016, Oceans of Slumber have included a cover song on all of their albums. As expected for a band that defies any and all conventions, the list of covers spans far beyond the metal realms, ranging from goth to blues rock, baroque pop and classic American folk.

While they always planned on ending their upcoming eighth album with another cover, a last-minute change of heart led Oceans of Slumber to revisit Chris Isaak's signature sleeper hit. By stripping the song down to its chilling core, the band turned "Wicked Game" into the dark and doomy end credits score to the dark, cinematic Where Gods Fear to Speak.

"Wicked Game" was on Oceans of Slumber's list well before Where Gods Fear to Speak. But when the Houston metal band arrived in Columbia to record their new album with GRAMMY nominee Joel Hamilton, they had already decided on covering the country-meets-Brill Building staple "Crying". Which would've made perfect sense; after all, Roy Orbison was a fellow proud Texan.

"I'm sure we'll cover 'Crying' at some point down the line", says Cammie Beverly. "But in the end, this album called for something more unexpected".

Oceans of Slumber's well-laid plan for finishing Where Gods Fear to Speak changed during their last session at Audiovision Studios. Having already recorded for nine and a half hours straight, the band were running out of time and energy. "My voice was so tired", Cammie reveals. While she's blessed with one of the cleanest and strongest set of pipes in all of metal, this album challenged her to flex a guttural new muscle: death growls.

"I had just recorded the demo for the hardest song on the album", Cammie continues. With its dizzying high notes and crushing, demonic lows, it's no wonder "Poem of Ecstasy" left even a powerful singer like her both physically and emotionally drained. "It was really frustrating", she remembers. Unsure whether her voice could summon The Big O's sweet, booming crescendo, at the final hour, she consulted with her husband and drummer Dobber Beverly. "We realized that the album needed to end on a note that was still familiar but also a bit unsettling".

Luckily, Dobber had just the right song in mind. "When we were in Columbia, I heard a club remix of 'Wicked Game' while out at a restaurant", he says with a smile. "It was so bad that I needed to go and make things right in my head". The band didn't have a moment to spare, either; like all of the songs on Where Gods Fear to Speak, they tracked this cover live, nailing the final take within their very last hour of studio time.

All jokes aside, "Wicked Game" proved to be a match made in heaven with Where Gods Fear to Speak. Chris Isaak wrote and released "Wicked Game" as a single off his third album in 1989, but the song didn't climb all the way to #6 on the Billboard Hot 100 until an Atlanta radio host heard it featured in David Lynch's 1990 romantic crime drama Wild at Heart. As its spellbinding title track unveiled, Oceans of Slumber still deliver more of the fiery death, doom and black metal that long-time fans have come to expect, but this new album expands their progressive vision to dark, cinematic heights.

"We've taken the raw and heavier direction of our last two albums and elevated it to the scale of a blockbuster IMAX movie", says Dobber. "Our cover of 'Wicked Game' is the song that plays over the end credits".

Still, it wouldn't have been all that surprising if Oceans of Slumber had stuck with the dazed, vaguely tropical vibe that Isaak nailed on the original version of "Wicked Game". After all, they had just spent two weeks soaking up Bogotá's sultry, sunny atmosphere. Alex Davis adds a lovely Spanish guitar line, but the band's chief composer took the out-of-nowhere hit in a bone-chilling direction.

Underground metalheads will always worship him as the drummer for grindcore legends Insect Warfare, but Dobber is also a classically trained pianist who arranged all 10 songs on Where Gods Fear to Speak. In his well-calloused hands, "Wicked Game" proceeds slowly, gracefully, as if welcoming a ghost, which allows Cammie plenty of breathing room. "No, I don't want to fall in love", she sings amidst the softest reaches of her upper register. Chris Kritikos joins in on back vocals, recasting the song's memorable refrain into a haunting coda of the doomed romance at the album's heart.

"With 'Wicked Game', we're sending the characters off into the sunset with a cliffhanger", says Cammie and Dobber. "Nobody loves no one".

To celebrate the release of Where Gods Fear to Speak, Oceans of Slumber have three special performances planned for later this year.

In August, Oceans of Slumber will battle alongside their new label mates Oak, Ash & Thorn at Madison, Wisconsin' Mad With Power Festival. The band will then reconvene with producer Joel Hamilton at Studio G Brooklyn, where they'll treat a small but lucky group of fans to reimagined versions of new and old classics.

"During this exclusive evening at Studio G, we'll be graced by esteemed guest musicians and a captivating string quartet", Dobber says. "Each song will be reinvented, breathing new life into the songs our fans cherish".

Come September, Oceans of Slumber will join forces with fellow Houston heavies Necrofier at Metal Injection Festival.

"We are thrilled to celebrate Metal Injection's 20th anniversary at this year's festival", says Cammie. "We'll be sharing the stage with amazing bands like Jinjer, Converge, God Forbid, 3 Inches of Blood, Hanabie, Cave In, Rivers of Nihil and our good friends in Necrofier. We can't wait to rock out with you and hit the streets of New York City".

GRAND MAGUS - Announce New Album "Sunraven" + Release Video For First Single 'Skybound'

Acclaimed heavy metal battering ram GRAND MAGUS from Stockholm, Sweden are pleased to announce that their brand new album Sunraven will be released on October 18th through Nuclear Blast Records. Sunraven marks the 10th full-length in the band's impressive discography and conceptually deals with the legendary poem Beowulf, an ancient tale of epic proportions about heroes and monsters, honor and bravery, victory and defeat. In short, themes that have always played an important role in the lyrical concept of GRAND MAGUS.

Alongside the album announcement, GRAND MAGUS have released a video for the first single from Sunraven, the mighty opening track 'Skybound', one of the most anthemic songs the band has ever written.

JB (vocals & guitar) commented:
"'Skybound' is obviously a song about death and going to Valhalla. That’s where Beowulf ended up in the end because after he defeated Grendel and Grendel’s mother, he was king for 50 years! Then his lands were plagued by a dragon, and by this time Beowulf is fucking ancient, but he’s still mean as a snake. He goes against the dragon and he manages to kill the dragon, but he’s mortally wounded in the process. He’s sky-bound, you know? These are all my own ideas about this. I used the myth as a starting point for my own ideas and imagination."

ABOUT GRAND MAGUS

Not every band can be 100 percent authentic and true. Not every band has the necessary cojones to summon the spirit of heavy metal. But GRAND MAGUS are not every band. A trio of windswept warriors, driven by a belief in the power of this ageless music that so many of us consider a real-world lifeline, they return in 2024 with glad tidings of heroism and valor.

Over the course of 25 years, the Swedish trio have established themselves as stoic standard bearers for heavy metal in its purest, most triumphant form. From their early years as honorary combatants in the doom scene, GRAND MAGUS have grown in confidence and stature with every passing year. Initially signed to legendary UK imprint Rise Above Records, they released acclaimed albums like 2003’s Monument and 2005’s fiery breakthrough opus Wolf’s Return and garnered effusive plaudits for live shows that always resounded with the thump of metal’s beating heart.

Later signed to first Roadrunner and then Nuclear Blast Records, GRAND MAGUS have marched on through the decades with their now trademark sign a continual benchmark for red-blooded heaviness. Bulging with fresh anthems, albums like Triumph & Power (2014) and Sword Songs(2016) took the band to new heights, as their status as a thunderous, rabble-rousing live band continued to grow. In 2019, the ninth studio album Wolf God put the seal on a second decade of active service, and GRAND MAGUS set off on tour as 2020 dawned; only to be confronted with a worldwide Covid shutdown that might have even spelled the end for Stockholm’s finest.

When work finally began on the tenth GRAND MAGUS album, JB made tentative steps towards something bigger and better than past achievements. With a final deadline waiting at the end of 2023, he began to piece together some ideas in January, slowly forming the backbone of what would become the new GRAND MAGUS album, Sunraven. After reconvening with bassist Fox and drummer Ludwig Witt in Halmstad, Sweden, the new songs swiftly came to life.

Not just the tenth GRAND MAGUS full-length, but their first bona fide concept album, Sunravenis a full-bore return to the heavy metal might of Wolf God and Sword Songs, but with an underlying story that adds greater depth to the Swedes’ earthy bombast. Made manifest via a gritty but grandiose production courtesy of the band and co-producer Staffan Karlsson, Sunravenwas inspired by the revered Old English epic poem of Beowulf. In true heavy metal style, these nine new songs dive deep into heroic fantasy, but with the same real-world resonances that are scorched into the genre’s calloused skin.

Defiled Reveal Raw Truth on New Single

The samurai of death metal are touring Japan this fall behind their upcoming eighth album Horror Beyond Horror

"For fans of the classic era of death metal" - Blabbermouth
"Nobody sounds like these guys; they make art out of riffs, snares and death" -
New Noise

"The one-two punch of tight musicianship and an inclination to pummel into submission without the need for flashy antics makes for a dazzling experience" - Ghost Cult

"Straight to the point and relentless"
- Distorted Sound

"Encapsulates both the oldschool familiarity and the modern aesthetics of death metal" - Metal Trenches

Though they've more than earned their distinguished title as the samurai of death metal, Defiled have never had the patience to suffer any fools. For the past 30 years, Yusuke Sumita and his lethal band of warriors have been on a war path, leaving nothing but inevitable ruin in their grimy wake. They've conquered crowds from across their native Tokyo all the way to Milwaukee Metal Festival while touring with their fellow legends in Mayhem, Incantation, Morbid Angel and Cannibal Corpse.

Now, just two years removed from reaching the highest level of straight-forward, bone-crushing death metal, Defiled have topped themselves once again on their upcoming eighth album. Horror Beyond Horror is the kind of good ol' fashioned ass-kicking that only a true master can deliver. It slices and dices from all directions, but their new single cuts straight to the bloody truth.

Watch the video for "Smoke and Mirrors" below:

Horror Beyond Horror comes out September 20 on Season of Mist.

Ever since they clawed out of Tokyo's underground back in 1992, Defiled have carved out a reputation as one of the world's finest practitioners of relentlessly raw death metal. "Those who prefer the schools of olde should be right at home", Lambgoat wrote in praise of their last barbaric offering.

But Horror Beyond Horror proves that Defiled can still inflict maximum punishment in ways that are strangely satisfying. Like a poisonous dart, the band come come shooting out of the shadows on "Smoke and Mirrors". Blast beats pummel at unforeseen angles, only to shift around every corner into a dizzying flurry of drum fills.

"Smoke and Mirrors" will toy with even the most decorated of battle vests, but Defiled know when it's time to vanquish foes with a brutal finishing move. "Every lie has been revealed", fearless frontman Shinichiro Hamada shouts, taking aim at perpetual frauds and tyrannical technocrats. Upon getting the signal from Hamada's screaming whammy bar, the band charge straight into the pit of battle with a grisly, grease-slicked groove that will snap plenty of necks on their upcoming Japanese tour.

"We are very excited to kick off our tour in support of our new album in our home country", says guitarist Yusuke Sumita. "If you're in the area, be sure to join us. See you on the road".

The video for "Smoke and Mirrors" was filmed at Katakai Pier in Kujukuri, Chiba, Japan in May 2024. It was directed and edited by Seaside 99 Works. Special thanks to Kujukuri Gyogyou Kumiai.

In customary fashion, this fall, Defiled are welcoming Horror Beyond Horror with a tour of Japan.

Don't miss the chance to watch these legends shred through "Smoke and Mirrors", "To See Beyond the Wall" and other nasty rippers off their new album for the very first time.

About:

Germany’s Nu Death powerhouse OCEANS are back with unprecedented ferocity since their debut EP in 2018. Brace yourself for their third album HAPPY, a colossal juggernaut that once again showcases the band's ability to seamlessly fuse nu-metal, death metal, and post-rock into their own signature sound. The days of subtle introversion seem to be over. As the world faces one crisis after another, OCEANS are channeling their frustration at the state of the world into a bold statement against the influence of social media on society, while staying true to their mission of promoting mental health awareness. This band has never sounded as angry as they do now, and these 11 songs are impressive proof of how well that emotion suits them. Surely this is also what convinced Australia's finest, keyboardist MISSTIQ and Josh Collard from EARTH CALLER, to take part as feature artists on two tracks. OCEANS ’previous album Hell Is Where The Heart Is put the band on the road with international acts like BLIND CHANNEL in 2022, as well as supporting ANNISOKAY in 2024. It’s safe to say that HAPPY will ignite massive mosh pits on their upcoming extensive European tour with SEPTICFLESH in October 2024.

OCEANS is:
Timo Rotten | vocals, guitar
Patrick Zarske | guitar
Thomas Winkelmann | bass
J.F. Grill | drums

WORMWITCH Streams New Self-Titled Full-Length in Full Ahead of Tomorrow's Release

Blackened speed metal entity WORMWITCH will unleash their eponymous fourth studio albumtomorrow, July 26, 2024 via Profound Lore Records! The Canadian necromancers are now streaming the upcoming offering in its entirety! The record can be heard below.

WORMWITCH sets out to combine a melodic blackened death assault with the ferocity and attitude of crust punk and classic rock and roll, jettisoning the burdens of ceremony and pomp that dominate the genre today.

The album can be pre-ordered in various formats HERE.

The cover artwork for Wormwitch's eponymous record was created by Abomination Hammer

Like black wings from an obsidian sky, WORMWITCH descended from the darkness in 2015, somewhere upon the rain-soaked woodlands of coastal British Columbia. Animated from the bones of several local punk and metal bands, the new entity set out to combine a melodic blackened death assault with the ferocity and attitude of crust punk and classic rock and roll, jettisoning the burdens of ceremony and pomp that dominate the genre today.

WORMWITCH released their first demo, 'The Long Defeat' in 2015, and shortly after signed to Prosthetic Records, under whom they released 'Strike Mortal Soil' (2017), 'Heaven that Dwells Within' (2019), and 'Wolf Hex' (2021). During that time the band toured with the likes of The Black Dahlia Murder, Suffocation, Midnight, Necrot, Uada, Bewitcher, and many others, earning themselves a dedicated cult following and international critical praise. In 2022, WORMWITCH struck out to independently release a string of singles and embark upon several tours of North America. After a busy festival season, 2024 saw the release of a six-song split with Atlanta black-thrashers Sadistic Ritual.

Now, with blades meticulously honed and tempered under the light of a feral Canadian moon, WORMWITCH emerges once more to offer their fourth full length record. Simply self-titled, “Wormwitch” is a statement of a band coming into it’s own - a revelrous celebration of devilish speed, searing melody and diabolical intensity.

ANCIIENTS Deliver Timeless Wisdom on New Single

JUNO Award winners hosting Bandcamp Listening Party for highly-anticipated third album Beyond the Reach of the Sun

"Big, melodic and fun" - New Noise
"A blend of soothing acoustic rock melodies and crushing heavy metal" - Guitar World

"It's exciting stuff, really - often complicated without seeming excessive, skillful but soulful, approachable but not pedestrian" - Pitchfork

"Heady stuff...arch-synthesists, cleverly appropriating a number of familiar, inter-related genres to fuse into a seamless ethos" - Metal Injection

"Proggy, sludgy and downright rocking" - Angry Metal Guy

"When the riffs rumble out of the speakers, you're moving" - No Clean Singing

"Combining powerful drumming with Thin Lizzy inspired riffs, while sounding like the musical equivalent of Game of Thrones" - Echoes and Dust

"Parts progressive finesse, classic rock grandstanding and grass-roots bludgeon" - PopMatters

Before they saw their new album to the finish line, Anciients had to climb an awfully rocky mountain. It might be hard to believe, but a global pandemic wasn't the only obstacle that stood in the Canadian band's path after winning a JUNO Award. They had to navigate multiple line-up changes, serious health complications and newfound fatherhood. But at last, the heavy, heady and heartfelt Canucks have returned to the summit of progressive metal with Beyond the Reach of the Sun.

The album's new single is plenty crushing, but "In the Absence of Wisdom" radiates with hard-earned perseverance.

"The hiatus is over" says frontman Kenny Cook. "We're ready to hit it hard".

Watch the eye-opening visualizer for "In the Absence of Wisdom" below.

Beyond the Reach of the Sun comes out August 30, 2024 on Season of Mist.

By the time we arrive at "In the Absence of Wisdom", the story behind Beyond the Reach of the Sun appears to have already reached its pointed conclusion. The shadowy galactic forces that enslaved society on the album's first two singles have been vanquished. The sun has returned to its vaulted place in the sky. Light and balance have been restored to the universe. All is well. Or so it seems...

"In the Absence of Wisdom" is the closing statement on Beyond the Reach of the Sun, which makes it stand out as an ominous coda. After all, Anciients didn't spend the last eight years soul searching through the Canadian wilderness just so they could wrap up their long-awaited new album with a big kumbaya. A bluesy guitar intro unravels like a cry in the dark before Cook and his new axe man Brock MacInnes (Dead Quiet) are locked back into a classic headbanging riff.

"We awaken", Cook sings, shrouded in reverb. "No one left to guide us through".

"In the Absence of Wisdom" does build to a grand finale in due time. But the song revolves around a gloomy conceptual framework. "I was thinking about all the times we as humans have failed to learn from the mistakes of everyone who's come and gone before us", Cook explains. "Making the same decisions over and over again in hopes of finally experiencing a breakthrough just leaves you caught in a viscous cycle".

The pandemic didn't help, but Beyond the Reach of the Sun had already been delayed long before COVID-19 prevented them from performing outside Canada for two-plus years (and counting). Cook's wife nearly passed away from heart complications after giving birth to their first child. "They're happy and healthy now", the grizzled frontman ensures, "but it was a bit of a road".

As if that wasn't enough weight for one metalhead to carry, Anciients were hit with a last-minute hurdle. A month before the band was all set to hunker down at Rain City Recorders, suddenly, they found themselves in search of a new bass player. Fortunately, Justin Hagberg, who plays the soft glowing keyboard on "In the Absence of Wisdom", showed them Bushwhacker's sure-handed bassist Rory O'Brien.

"We got lucky and Rory saved our asses at the last minute", Cook says.

The journey wasn't without plenty of pitfalls, but in the end, Beyond the Reach of the Sun is a testament to Anciients' perseverance. "At its core, this album is all about overcoming adversity in order to seek enlightenment", Cook says. "In the Absence of Wisdom" concludes with the fiercest and most fiery of its three guitar solos, the flaming hammer-ons fanned higher and higher by drummer Mike Hannay's thunderous toms.

"We are now the demons", Cook warns, "Following the footsteps / Of the ones we hate". His growl is deadlier than ever, but it's a prophecy from a band that's lived to tell the tale.

The Brian Setzer Orchestra (sometimes known by its initials BSO) is a swing and jump blues band formed in 1992 by Stray Cats frontman Brian Setzer. In 1994 they released their debut album which was followed up in 1996 with Guitar Slinger. In 1998, for their breakout album The Dirty Boogie, the group covered Louis Prima's "Jump, Jive an' Wail," which originally appeared on Prima's 1957 album The Wildest!. The BSO's follow up single, appearing on the album Vavoom!, was "Gettin' in the Mood."

Now get Guitar Slinger from the Brian Setzer Orchestra for the first time on vinyl since 1996. Remastered on 180g vinyl in two amazing Limited-Edition Colors. There are only 300 of the Red Multi-Color and 700 of the Silver Melt. Guitar Slinger is the second release from the Brian Setzer Orchestra and where the band really started to come together. As Setzer states, “With this album, it was like now I know the idea works, I know I can front a big band with an electric guitar, so now just let me write songs. I don't have to think about writing swing songs or is this going to work or not, that point was proven. So I just sat down and started writing songs. It took a little turn.”

Listen to “The House Is Rockin”

The album leads off with "The House Is Rockin’” and features the Brian Setzer/Joe Strummer (The Clash) penned tracks “Ghost Radio” and “Sammy Davis City”. There are 12 tracks in all, and it clocks in at just over 43 minutes. This is the first in a series of three reissues coming from Deko Entertainment with The Dirty Boogie scheduled to also hit by the end of 2024, with Vavoom! to follow in early 2025.

Wounded Touch Release New Single "Submitted For (Dis)Approval" + Announce Upcoming Split EP via Smartpunk Records

Smartpunk Records' metal powerhouses Wounded Touch embrace elements of 2000s metalcore and mathcore in their short but densely-packed, majorly heavy single "Submitted For (Dis)Approval." The band recorded the upcoming split EP Traumatic Entanglement with Matt Marquez from Norma Jean and they share the tracklist with fellow metal band FallFiftyFeet.

Since their inception, the Michigan outfit has used musical guerilla campaign tactics and a resilient DIY work ethic to make their way onto nationwide festivals and a full UK tour while gaining notoriety from metal's top publications including Metal Hammer and New Noise.

Speaking about the new single, Wounded Touch says, "'Submitted For (Dis)Approval' shifted from an intro riff into a whole song right before we played the Furnace Fest '23 kickoff show while putting new material together for the set. Thematically, it's about the artist's relationship to the audience and being willing to do anything for their applause and approval, including self-harm and death. We just tried to not think too hard and have fun jamming something out after deciding we wanted to have a 'Go!' mosh call in something."

The band announces upcoming split EP with FallFiftyFeet, titled Traumatic Entanglement, via Smartpunk Records on August 23, 2024. Pre-save here.

ABOUT WOUNDED TOUCH
Even since their infancy, the Michigan outfit Wounded Touch have used musical guerilla campaign tactics to make their way onto the likes of The Fest, Furnace Fest '21 and '23 official pre-shows, SXSW, tour the United Kingdom, and sell out the first pressing of their debut LP while fighting for every inch of ground not given. Bringing influence through the scope of the nostalgic 2000s metalcore/mathcore sound, the band aims to always keep their heads down, remain humble, and push forward through any means necessary if it means continuing to be loud, noisy, and frantic on as many stages as possible.

ABOUT SMARTPUNK RECORDS:
Smartpunk has been a recognizable name in the scene for a long time (Remember that sponsored Warped Tour stage?!). After exchanging several hands and countless ideas of what it could and should be, they decided to start a record label in 2016 with the main idea of focusing solely on reissuing records that have been out of print or never on vinyl. After all, they're a label of vinyl dorks themselves! After releasing Set Your Goals' Mutiny and Gameface's Good, they started to venture into signing newer bands. They actively balance in between many worlds — putting out amazing music from friends and bands that rock, reissuing older titles, and partnering with other incredible labels in our scene and doing exclusive color variants of their releases.

"Since forming the record label, Smartpunk Records has released timeless albums such as Less Than Jake's Anthem, Nominee's Lowlife, RIVALS' Sad Looks Pretty on Me, Virginity's POPMORTEM, and melodic skate punkers The Swellers' My Everest.

Miranda Lambert’s ‘Postcards from Texas’ Arrives 9/13; “Alimony” Out Now

Having decamped to Austin’s legendary Arlyn Recording Studios to distill her Lone Star coming of age, triple GRAMMY winner and Academy of Country Music Entertainer of the Year Miranda Lambert savored the rhythms, players and variety of styles that populate Postcards from Texas. The 14-track project moves from yearning ballads to discordant rockers, sparkling acoustic songs and steel guitar-soaked laments, showing what makes music from the Lone Star State so tangy and unforgettable.

Pre-order for the album arriving Sept. 13 starts now, HERE. To celebrate, there’s only one thing for the winningest woman in ACM history to do: drop more music and kick up some dust on her way to deliver the full picture! With the brooding, woman scorned “Wranglers” and the chiming rejoinder “Dammit Randy” already stoking anticipation, Lambert makes a hard right… to the dance floor.

With a descending electric guitar part and some kick drum and hi-hat rim snaps, Lambert devours the hilarious honky tonk of the industrial shuffle “Alimony” to amp up the tone for her first album for Republic Records. A jaunty tumbling swagger that’s long on bar-room piano, the pre-chorus boasts, “I called that lawyer up in Dallas, the one who’s livin’ in that palace / So I know he’s good at winnin’, if you think there’s somethin’ that you’re missin’…”

“We were out in my barn; I was showing Shane and Natalie the horses, and I asked if he had any other titles,” Lambert remembers of the day she, Shane McAnally and Natalie Hemby hit a creative streak. “He said he had one, and I was like, ‘What is it? Because your last one was ‘Looking Back on Luckenbach,’ which I didn’t think you could top. He said, ‘Well, ‘If you’re gonna leave me in San Antone, remember the Alamo-neeeee…’’ Natalie and I were like, ‘Alright, Shane! Stop showing off.’

“We went back to the house and got the guitars,” Lambert continues, “and I specifically was like, ‘I want a shuffle, man.’ I love to shuffle so much, and this record needed a shuffle! I knew I wanted one in my set, because I haven't done one in a while – and everybody loves a shuffle.”

Unrepentantly bouncing, the track is pure beer-joint country. Beyond warning about the consequences of the buckle-polishing that dissolves marriages, “Alimony” draws on Lambert’s childhood. Laughing, she offers, “My parents were private investigators in Dallas, Texas who worked a ton of divorce cases in highfalutin parts of town, so this wasn’t hard to write. I’d heard about it my whole life.

“And once we had the line – If you’re gonna leave me in San Antone, remember the alimony – we were off! We used every Texas metaphor we could come up with on purpose; we wanted to take something kind of shitty and put some humor back in it. I mean, the guy gets out pretty easy if all he does is move back in with his mom.”

Working with GRAMMY-winning songwriter/producer Jon Randall, they assembled a musical dream team. Jedd Hughes and Ethan Ballinger’s electric guitars tangled with Texas legend Bukka Allen’s barrelhouse piano, while the rhythm section of Rachel Loy on bass and Conrad Choucroun’s on drums created a banging barn-door rhythm to propel “Alimony” with abandon.

Tongue firmly in cheek, the latest track from Postcards from Texas delivers on Lambert’s wink’n’nudge approach to love, life and the pursuit of happiness on one’s own terms. Self-determination is a key piece of being a Texan, as is a sense of humor, and Lambert delivers.

About Miranda Lambert
Acclaimed groundbreaker/songwriter/superstar Miranda Lambert has defined her multi-faceted career as an artist, entertainer, entrepreneur, advocate and businesswoman with an unflinching quest for excellence, honesty and conviction. The most-awarded artist in Academy of Country Music history, including their top honor for Entertainer of the Year, her music has also won three GRAMMYs and 14 Country Music Association Awards. A TIME100 honoree and perennial best-of-the-year list maker at the New York TimesTIMERolling Stone, Billboard, Stereogum, People and more, NPR has called her “the most riveting country star of her generation.”

With seven No. 1 solo albums, 10 No. 1 hit radio singles, more than 80 prestigious awards and countless Gold, Platinum and multi-Platinum sales certifications, she’s conquered Las Vegas with her twice-extended Velvet Rodeo residency and blurred genres with Leon Bridges, Enrique Iglesias, the B-52s, Loretta Lynn, Sheryl Crow and Elle King as well as her LGBTQ+ inclusive anthem “Y’All Means All” for Netflix’s “Queer Eye.” She’s taken those standards to become a New York Times bestselling author and the first woman on Lower Broadway with her Tex-Mex cantina Casa Rosa, while expanding her creative reach with her Wanda June Home collection exclusive to Walmart and her Idyllwind clothing and boot line available at Boot Barn. FAST EDDIE CLARKE ANNOUNCES FOUR CD CAREER RETROSPECTIVE AND 320 PAGE BOOK WITH BMG

MAKE MY DAY: THE ROCK ‘N’ ROLL STORY OF FAST EDDIE CLARKE

FOUR-CD CAREER RETROSPECTIVE AND 320 PAGE BOOK OF THE ICONIC MOTORHEAD GUITARIST BY KRIS NEEDS TO BE RELEASED SEPTEMBER 6th VIA BMG

PRE-ORDER
HERE AND LISTEN TO THE SOLO TRACK ‘OVER AND OUT’

Coming in a robust box, Make My Day: The Rock ‘n’ Roll Story Of Fast Eddie Clarke celebrates the late Motorhead-Fastway guitarist with a four-CD career retrospective and 320-page book written by veteran rock journalist Kris Needs with Clarke’s widow Mariko Fujiwara.

The book that named the set, Make My Day: The Rock ‘N’ Roll Story Of Fast Eddie Clarke charts the guitarist’s life and career including his epiphany seeing the Yardbirds at Eel Pie Island, playing with assorted bands, recording two albums with former Jimi Hendrix associate Curtis Knight, riding with Motorhead’s most revered lineup between 1976 and 1982, forming Fastway and releasing two solo albums. Mariko and Eddie’s closest friends provide detailed insights into Eddie’s life, including growing up in Twickenham, topping charts with Motorhead, overcoming personal problems, finding happiness with Mariko and becoming the smitten co-owner of Cookie the Maltese-Shihtzu cross.

As editor of the UK’s first serious music monthly Zigzag and one of Motorhead’s earliest press champions, Kris Needs spent five years close to the band during its most successful period and beyond. To this end, Needs also interviewed close friends, bandmates, associated bands including Girlschool and Saxon plus collaborators from different stages of Eddie’s roller coaster life and career, emerging with a definitive account that ends up a love story.

The CD boxset covers Fast Eddie’s recording career of over 40 years including tracks requested by Mariko, starting with The Early Years, which includes Zeus and his subsequent band Continuous Performance, along with three tracks from the legendary Muggers, who Eddie and Philthy ‘Animal’ Taylor played with in 1978 along with ‘Speedy’ Keen and Heartbreakers bassist Billy Rath.

CD2’s Motorhead highlights Eddie’s most outstanding performances with the ‘classic lineup’ of Lemmy, Philthy ‘Animal’ Taylor, including ‘Ace Of Spades’ and other much-loved rampages, three previously unreleased Bomber album demos and his vocal performances on the Headgirl project with Girlschool and ‘Stone Dead Forever’.

CD3’s Fastway straddles different incarnations of the band Fast Eddie formed with UFO bassist Pete Way after departing from Motorhead in 1982, including demos, remixes and tracks from their eight albums. Along with curios.

CD4, The Solo Years mainly draws from Fast Eddie’s two solo albums, It Ain’t Over ‘Till It’s Over and his final work with underrated peak Make My Day: Back To The Blues, created with Shakatak’s Bill Sharpe.

Michael Schenker Shares New Single "Rock Bottom" Feat. Kai Hansen

SONG IS TAKEN FROM UPCOMING ALBUM MY YEARS WITH UFO

Following the success of his first single "Mother Mary," featuring Slash and Erik Grönwall, legendary guitarist Michael Schenker is set to release the second single "Rock Bottom" from his new album My Years with UFO.

This epic, 11-minute track once again showcases an incredible lineup featuring Kai Hansen (Gamma Ray, Helloween) on vocals; Derek Sherinian on keys; Brian Tichy on drums; and Barry Sparks on bass. The new single paves the way for what promises to be one of the most exciting rock albums of 2024.

Schenker's new album My Years with UFO is a tribute to the golden years that saw British hard rock band UFO rise from an underground phenomenon to rock legends.

Produced by Michael Schenker and Michael Voss, the new album marks the 50th anniversary of Schenker's era with UFO, spanning from 1972 to 1978. The "German Wunderkind" was asked to join UFO at just 17 years old. Touring the globe as a teenager, Schenker became a driving force behind some of UFO's most loved tracks, such as "Doctor Doctor," "Rock Bottom," and "Only You Can Rock Me."

LISTEN TO "ROCK BOTTOM" FEAT. KAI HANSEN

Although Michael Schenker's era with UFO spanned only six years, his influence as a young songwriter and exceptional guitarist had already left a lasting mark on rock. During these meteoric years, the UFO albums Phenomenon, Force It, No Heavy Petting, Lights Out, Obsession, and the seminal live album Strangers in the Night were recorded, each contributing significantly to the genre. Strangers in the Night particularly stands out as one of the most influential live rock albums of all time and is still regarded as a cornerstone in any rock enthusiast's collection.

In this celebratory album, Michael Schenker presents 11 of UFO's greatest hits from this magical era with an impressive lineup of guest stars. Joining Schenker on this journey are Derek Sherinian on keys; Brian Tichy on drums; and Barry Sparks on bass.

The stellar roster of guest artists includes Axl Rose, Slash, Kai Hansen, Roger Glover, Joey Tempest, Biff Byford, Jeff Scott Soto, John Norum, Dee Snider, Joel Hoekstra, Joe Lynn Turner, Carmine Appice, Adrian Vandenberg, Michael Voss, Stephen Pearcy, and Erik Grönwall.

This album is the introduction to an upcoming trilogy, as Michael Schenker has signed an exclusive three-album deal with earMUSIC, with additional albums to follow in 2025 and 2026.

My Years with UFO will be released worldwide on September 20 via earMUSIC and is available for pre-order here.

Jason Charles Miller Releases New Single “Digging In The Dust”; New Album ‘Knives In The Dark’ out August 16,

Jason Charles Miller has released “Digging in the Dust,” the debut single from his upcoming new album Knives in the Dark. The song is impacting at Americana radio now, while the album, slated for release August 16, will be supported by a North American tour with Steel Panther that launches August 23 in Buffalo, NY. See complete dates below.

“Timing in relationships is everything. ‘Digging in the Dust’ is about a romance that’s long-since ended, but neither side wants to admit it,” says Miller of the inspiration behind his new single. “We’ve all seen that from afar, but the main character is just figuring out it’s happening to them. The inevitability of the situation is slowly being revealed, and this song is the realization of that moment, and the futility of any future together.”

WATCH THE “DIGGING IN THE DUST” VISUALIZER/LYRIC VIDEO BELOW;

An accomplished southern rock/Americana artist, ‘Knives’ will be Miller’s fifth full-length solo album, and first album with new label One Opportunity Records. He has also released multiple EPs and singles, and a host of high-profile soundtrack and theme music work for shows and games including ‘Critical Role,’ ‘Metal Gear Rising,’ ‘Cyberpunk 2077,’ ‘Legends of the Multiverse’ and AEW professional wrestler Brandon Cutler.

“This is the first album I’ve written where my only goal was to write the best songs I can, and not worry about where they might be categorized,” says Miller of ‘Knives in the Dark.’ “By not going out of my way to write for a specific genre, I’ve made what is, hands down, the best – and most representative – album of my career.”

Miller’s music contributions to the Final Fantasy video game franchise have made him a fan favorite to players of the game, and he is featured regularly at Final Fantasy Fan Fest events worldwide, including upcoming officially sanctioned tour stops in China, Japan and South Korea this fall, where he will perform Final Fantasy XIV music alongside all-star ensembles and orchestras.

Widely recognized as the frontman and founder of the rock band Godhead, where he toured the world with the likes of Ozzy Osbourne, Rammstein, Disturbed, Linkin Park, Slipknot and Korn frontman Jonathan Davis, Miller transitioned to a solo artist with the release of his Last To Go Home EP in 2009.

Seamlessly blending the worlds of Americana, rock and country, his solo career has seen him share stages with greats including Billy Ray Cyrus, Alan Jackson, Eric Church, Toby Keith, Ashley McBryde, .38 Special, Allman Betts Band and more.

Fancy Hagood Captures Love & Solace in New Song "Good Grief"

Acclaimed singer/songwriter Fancy Hagood will release his deeply emotional and introspective new single, “Good Grief,” on Friday, July 26. The poignant track captures the raw essence of loss, reflection and the journey toward healing, solidifying Hagood’s place as one of the most evocative storytellers in contemporary music.

“Good Grief” delves into the complexities of grief and the bittersweet memories that accompany it. The song's heartfelt lyrics and haunting melody offer a glimpse into Hagood's soul, making it a relatable and cathartic experience for listeners. Pre-add/save the song here.

“Last year, an acquaintance of mine had passed away and they had the most beautiful celebration of life for them,” said Hagood. “The following day, I had a writing session with my friend Jeremy Lutito, and I showed up feeling heavy with grief and loss, and strangely enough, so was Jeremy. He had just lost their family cat, and he was sharing with me the struggle of having to explain the concept of grief to his young children. Honestly, we both wrote this song to cope with our grief that day, and it was healing for me.

“Now, when I see the little reminders of those I have lost, the grief visits me, and it is just wonderful. It is ‘good grief’ because it’s as if they were there with me for a moment, and for that, I’m thankful. This song is for anyone missing loved ones on the other side.”

The song’s lyrics paint vivid imagery of sorrow and solace, capturing moments of vulnerability and resilience. Hagood’s soulful voice and masterful storytelling shine through as he navigates the emotions of losing a loved one while finding peace in memories and the natural world.

“Good Grief” is a testament to the duality of grief and joy, capturing the delicate balance of holding onto cherished memories while moving forward. Hagood’s ability to convey such a complex emotional landscape is a testament to his artistry and connection with his audience.

“Good Grief” follows the recent release of his song “Through,” of which Music Row Magazine said, “What a groove. Love the cool, crunchy bop tempo.” Listen to the song here. Both songs will be featured on his forthcoming sophomore album due this fall.

Hagood continues with a heavy summer tour schedule with artists including Maggie Rose, Joy Oladokun, Orville Peck and others. This fall, he will return to Europe for his first headlining tour, the Fly Away Tour. Tickets for shows are available here.

ABOUT FANCY HAGOOD:
Fancy Hagood is a Queer country artist from Bentonville, AR who now lives and makes music out of Nashville, TN.  His recent EP, Smothered, Covered & Fried, is a five-track collection that features some of his favorite cover songs, four of which are collaborations with other queer country artists, including TJ Osborne, Brooke Eden, The Kentucky Gentleman, and She Returns From War and Jamie Wyatt.

As part of CMT’s “Listen Up Class of 2024,” Fancy’s music has been streamed across multiple platforms over 35 million times. Earlier this year Fancy was nominated for a GLADD Award for Outstanding Breakthrough Music Artist. He has garnered the attention of generational artists like Brandi Carlile who called Fancy “an artist to watch,” and Sir Elton John, who asked Fancy to be a guest on his Rocket Hour Radio Show. Elton proclaimed, “We need more people like Fancy.”

FORMER CACTUS VOCALIST JIMMY KUNES AND TRANS-SIBERIAN ORCHESTRA GUITARIST ANGUS CLARK TEAM UP FOR THE KUNES CLARK BAND, WITH SINGLE 'STEP UP STEP UP'

The Kunes Clark Band is singer/songwriter Jimmy Kunes (Cactus, Savoy Brown, Humble Pie) and guitarist/songwriter Angus Clark (Cher, Joe Lynn Turner, Trans-Siberian Orchestra). The two musicians have known each other for nearly two decades and have performed together in numerous projects in and around New York City. Now they decided to take care of some unfinished business and make an album of material, some brand new, and some based on material they demoed 14 years ago. Rounding out the lineup for this album are drummer Van Romaine (Steve Morse Band) and bassist Winston Roye (Soul Asylum), along with keyboardists Rob Clores (The Black Crowes) and John Deley (David Johansen).

The band has just released their first single “Step Up Step Aside” and singer Jimmy Kunes had this to say about it, “Man gets jilted by girl. A possible ultimatum has been delivered. Man does exactly what he shouldn’t do and goes out on the town. Man wakes up groggily to find that the girl hasn’t stepped up, she’s stepped aside. To allow for more futile wasted nights out on the town. Los endos.” Guitarist Angus Clark continues, “It’s a tale of two Jimmies - Kunes and Hendrix! The main guitar riff owes a lot to Hendrix, but the way I’m jumping octaves in it comes from some of Kunes’ signature vocal acrobatics. That’s how we bounce off each other in the writing process. I love the energy on this tune, it reminds me of Thin Lizzy.”

Listen below:

Their self-titled debut album is a powerhouse of straight-ahead rock and roll and is sure to please fans of Led Zeppelin, the Black Crowes, and Rival Sons. From the rocking “Step Up Step Aside” and “Release Yourself” to the stripped-down “Cross To Bear”. The album drops on August 30th and the band will celebrate with a record release party on September 4th at the Bitter End in NYC.

VETERAN VOCALIST DAVID “LEFTY” FOSTER FINALLY RELEASES WHAT A LIFE – THE LOST LA SESSIONS THROUGH DEKO ENTERTAINMENT

David "Lefty" Foster has been captivated by music, particularly the blues, since his professional singing career began at the tender age of 14. His journey into the blues world was solidified during his twenties when he co-owned the Shaboo Inn, a legendary R&B and jazz nightclub that hosted blues greats such as Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker, and T-Bone Walker. In 1987, he relocated to Los Angeles and seized the opportunity to record his solo album, "What a Life," produced by the esteemed Paul Rothchild (The Doors, Janis Joplin, Crosby, Stills & Nash, Joni Mitchell).

Despite the album's eventual shelving due to unforeseen circumstances, Lefty has now teamed up with Deko Entertainment to bring this album to life, now titled What A Life – The Lost L.A. Sessions. The first single “What A Life” is out now and this what Lefty had to say about it, “I’m very excited to be partnering with Deko Entertainment (ADA/Warner Music Group) and have the opportunity for the world to finally hear this record and these legendary tracks that have never been heard before – I’m really looking forward to it – thank you so much.”

Listen below:

In addition to Rothchild, the album features the incredible Phenix Horns most notably known for being the horn section with Earth, Wind & Fire as well as a who’s who of top session guys of the day including Jack Scarangella (Blood Sweat & Tears), Mark Williams (Don Henley), Joe Lala (Whitney Houston), Kal David (Etta James), and much more. So, sit back, relax, and enjoy this snapshot in time when music was made the old fashioned way. They PLAYED IT.

Lefty will be celebrating the long overdue release of this album with a special concert with The Hollywood Allstars Friday September 13th and The Kate (The Katherine Hepburn Cultural Arts Theater) in Old Saybrook CT.

Bodysnatcher release new track & video "Infested"

Heavy Floridian quartet Bodysnatcher have released their latest track and music video "Infested." The punishing track is featured on the band's EP, Vile Conduct, releasing digitally on September 3 via MNRK Heavy.

Bodysnatcher's Kyle Carter says, "'Infested' is about falling back into depression over and over again. It’s about being on the cusp of giving up and telling yourself that you’re going to do whatever you can to heal and come out okay on the other end. Depression is a lifelong fight, and we’re always going to feel like it’s important to talk about.”

In addition to previously announced EU dates, today, the band announces their extensive U.S. fall tour in support of Fit For An Autopsy.  These dates kick off on October 18, 2024, at the Palladium in Worcester, MA, and wrap on November 17 at Toad's Place in New Haven.  Full dates are below.

Watch the sinister visual for "Infested" directed by Errick Easterday below:

The band previously released the tracks "Human Disdain," "Severed" and MURDER8 ft. Jamey Jasta from the EP.  The Vile Conduct  EP sheds light on the human race being disgusting and realizing that it is also part of all of us, whether we want it to or not. Produced by the legendary Will Putney (Fit for an Autopsy, END, Knocked Loose), Vile Conduct touches on personal tales of loss at the hands of addiction and substance, all through a unique lens of bitter remorse and ruthless aggression that only Bodysnatcher could provide.

Since their 2014 inception in Melbourne, Florida, Bodysnatcher have been bringing nothing but the finest in furious, extreme music. Combining crushing breakdowns with eerie ambience, scathing riffs and grisly grooves, the band have become synonymous with “heavy,” invoking violence in every city they happen to visit, spawning mosh pits that leave nothing but craters in their wake.

STARSET previously announced the second leg of their "IMMERSION: THE FINAL CHAPTER" tour, set for late summer and early fall 2024. The tour is an "Evening With Starset" and kicks off August 31 in the band's native Columbus, Ohio and runs through September 25 in Indianapolis. It also includes an appearance at the Louder Than Life festival in Louisville. This trek follows the Spring 2024 leg. The tour was almost 100% sold out across 20 dates. Earlier this spring, STARSET also shared the official music video for the brand new single "BRAVE NEW WORLD." Watch it here.

Black Lava Reign Supreme on New Guitar Playthrough

"Perhaps the best thing to come out of Australia since the Bloomin' Onion" - Metal Injection

"Familiar yet undeniably creative, heavy and a clear statement in the darkness of music" - Metal Roos

"A fantastic album...wrapped up in a package that is so tight, you couldn't squeeze in between the layers if you were as thin as paper." - Metal Temple

"Black Lava scrachtes a particular itch when you need music that is heavy, groovy and gritty" - Metal Epidemic

"Riff after riff, chug after chug, these songs bleed with strength and perseverance" - Monuments in Ruin

On their new album, Black Lava summon another perfect storm. The Savage Winds to Wisdom swirls together eerie blackened countermelodies and hexing prog with a heavy load of old-school headbanging. The riffs on "Dark Legacy" loom large, casting a fiery shadow over the kingdom of metal that warns of the band's growing legend.

“We sharpened our tools with this album”, Black Lava says. “We went a little more brutal and that sets the tone for where we’ll head in the future".

Watch the guitar playthrough for "Dark Legacy" below.

The Savage Winds to Wisdom is out now on Season of Mist.

Black Lava erupted out of Australia's metal scene during the first trying year of the pandemic. But the band came together with all the ease of a natural stream. All four members have crossed paths around the various corners of the Melbourne underground. Guitarist Ben Boyle also shreds alongside bassist Nick Rackham in Hadal Maw and A Million Dead Birds Laughing.

Their potent alchemy is the skeleton key that unlocks "Dark Legacy". With the tap of his fingers, Boyle casts a menacing spell from gloomy minor chord dissonance and technical wizardry. Though it's Rackham's monstrous bass groove that hits like a spear straight through the heart.

“We took greater care with compositions on The Savage Winds to Wisdom”, Boyle says. “There’s more depth and layering to the riffs and melodies. By calling on a broader list of inspirations and tones, the album has a real sense of balance, a certain quality that will lend itself to repeat listens and attention to detail, while still staying true to what we set out to do with Black Lava; create heavy, energetic and catchy tunes that emanate a sense of atmosphere and power for the listener.”

The guitar playthrough of "Dark Legacy" was shot at Bushido Studios. It was filmed, edited and coloured by Black Lava's drummer Dan Presland.

Like any good sorcerer, Black Lava cast a wicked array of spells. Dan Presland, Ben Boyle and Rob Watkins treated Outburn magazine to a list of the band's potent influences and most punishing songs.
