Emptiness Release New Single “Nowhere Speaks”

Black/death experimental metal band Emptiness are releasing the title track from the band’s upcoming seventh album as its third and final advanced single. While it serves as the album’s conceptual center, “Nowhere Speaks” builds toward an enclosing, unyielding force.

Listen to “Nowhere Speaks” below:

Nowhere Speaks comes out July 17th, 2026 on Season of Mist.

Pre-order & pre-save

https://orcd.co/emptinessnowherespeaks

Save for vocals, keyboards and additional effects, Nowhere Speaks was played live in the studio, after four years of preparation, rehearsals and tests to ensure the music could be performed with the right weight and intention. This is not a production detail so much as a commitment to a specific kind of tension, the kind that does not survive being assembled in pieces. Emptiness’ previous album, Vide (2021), had no distortion, was sung entirely in French, and existed at the edge of silence; Nowhere Speaks moves in the opposite direction, and does so deliberately, opening exactly where Nothing But The Whole (2014) cut off mid-riff and closing by looping back to that album's opening riff.

The title track opens in unhurried density, a body of sound that grows and presses inward without urgency, The lyrics inhabit the dimension the album describes without mapping it: a mind that twists, a dead world moving alongside something unresolved from the past, and through it all, something vast speaking outward into a landscape of sorrow, addressed to no one in particular. "Nowhere speaks loud thru the wind, in a landscape of sorrow, to a soldier of steel."

Nowhere Speaks is not a return. After the most introverted and isolated record of their career, the band opens outward into density and live intensity. The album, developed over an extended period of time, was composed by Jérémie Bézier and Olivier J.L.W., who oversee its production across both sonic and visual dimensions, bringing the work to completion as a unified whole, committed to tape live in the studio. The structural conceit of opening mid-riff from where Nothing But The Whole ended, and closing with that album's opening riff, is not nostalgia. It is the same logic that has always governed EMPTINESS: the cycle without a fixed point, beginning and ending inside each other, nothing and everything at the same time. The band has spent years demonstrating that they do not move in straight lines. Nowhere Speaks is a continuation from a point the listener was not meant to forget.

Untitled With Drums Release New Single “Shame”

UNTITLED WITH DRUMS are releasing the second advanced single off their upcoming sophomore album Made Flesh. “Shame” channels frustration and a sharp sense of injustice into a song that hits with the directness of an accusation.

“‘Shame’ is about injustice, insolence and the stark observation that while so many of us are consumed by spirals of remorse and regret, others seem entirely immune and thriving without consequence”, Untitled With Drums says. “A theme that echoes the album's broader thread of truly facing what we feel and acknowledging how deeply these flaws are woven into our core identity. ‘Shame’ is addressed to those who, for once in their lives, would do better to share that burden with the rest of us.”

Watch the music video for “Shame” below:

Made Flesh comes out August 21, 2026 on Season of Mist

Pre-order & Pre-save

https://orcd.co/untitledwithdrumsmadeflesh

Made Flesh maps a free-flowing exploration of the human psyche. The album deals with the ego, denial, toxicity and faith without coming to any easy resolutions. Whereas the album’s lead single, “Matter”, dissected the compulsion to dominate and be seen, “Shame” shifts the lens outward to those who move through the world unburdened by the weight that quietly crushes everyone else. "Still you are unknown to shame / While I bathed in mine / I gave it my name."

No strangers to the specialist press or the festival circuit, Untitled With Drums have been together since 2014. The band released their debut album Hollow in 2020, just days before their native France entered its first COVID lockdown. Despite the timing, the album drew widespread praise and propelled the band to the stages of Hellfest, London’s Desertfest and the Nuits de Fourviere festival, where they opened for the Deftones and Baroness.

The music video for “Shame” has been directed by Angélique Delarbre, and co-edited by Martin Le Borgne.

That UNTITLED WITH DRUMS didn't throw in the towel during the COVID era is nothing short of a miracle. While their debut album, Hollow, had the misfortune of being released just days before the lockdown was declared in France in March 2020, the praise from the specialized media allowed it to soar above the fray. This propelled this heir to Failure, Quicksand, and Cave In to the stages of Hellfest 2022 and the Nuits de Fourvière festival, opening for the legendary Deftones, as well as London's Desertfest. This was enough to build confidence, gather strength, and prepare the ground for a worthy successor to their first album, as well as to the symbols EP released at the end of 2025. This was merely an appetizer before Made Flesh, their sophomore album, through which the Clermont-Ferrand-based band pushes their hybrid of alt rock and 90s post-hardcore to new heights.

Recorded and mixed under the guidance of Cyrille Gachet (Fange, Year Of No Light, The Great Old Ones…) and then mastered by Alan Douches (Dillinger Escape Plan, Every Time I Die, Converge…), Made Flesh grew out of a long and intense period of songwriting, fraught with self-doubt and soul-searching. But above all, it testifies to a compositional intent focused on efficiency and a better showcasing of everything that constitutes the band's sonic DNA. Only one single guiding principle here: ensuring that these 10 new tracks resonate personally. This is Untitled With Drums as its members want you to hear them — not as you might expect. Far from being weakened by their reformation as a quartet, it is precisely their unbreakable bonds forged more than a decade ago that constitute their strength, more alive with symbiosis than ever.

While the power of Lucas D.'s riffs is heightened, the ethereal soundscapes he weaves are even more expanded. They blend seamlessly with Nicolas Z.'s synthesizers, now more prominent than ever. Rémy D.'s drumming provides the songs’ backbone, delivering grooves with assertive nuances without neglecting more intricate patterns. This array of strengths wouldn't be complete without bassist Martin L.B..'s vocals, never failing to deliver an infectious emotional intensity. This energy serves Made Flesh's thematic focus: a satirical outlook on our times delivered from a multitude of perspectives, like donning and dropping one mask after another.

With this sophomore album, UNTITLED WITH DRUMS establish themselves as the beacon of a French rock scene struggling to take risks, too often settling for crude heaviness. Theirs cuts deeper — straight to the flesh.

Fresh off crushing cities across North America during their headline run on this year’s Decibel Magazine Tour, Cryptopsy remain insatiable as ever. The Montreal legends’ latest album, An Insatiable Violence, received their second nomination for Best Metal/Hard Music Album at this year’s JUNO Awards, a category they won two years ago. Today, Cryptopsy are announcing that they are performing later this summer at Billy Strings’ annual Ionia Freak Fair. The band will headline The Pyramid Scheme Pinball & Metal Tent on Saturday, August 29. The news arrives almost a year since they collaborated with the Grammy Award-winning bluegrass star on “Blasphemy Made Fresh”.

“We’re incredibly grateful and honored to be part of something as unique as the Ionia Freak Fair”, Cryptopsy says. “Music has always been about breaking boundaries. We can’t wait to bring something heavy to this year’s festival. Who knows, maybe Billy will even stop by for a song…”

The cover art for An Insatiable Violence was created by the late, great vocalist Martin Lacroix.  "The album artwork has got to be one of the most important things to us!”, the band says. “Martin Lacroix was one of our vocalists, one of our great friends and one of the nicest people that anyone could have the privilege to meet. Mawiza Release New Indigenous Anthem “MÜR”

After Metal Hammer hailed them as the most important new metal band of 2025, this year, Mawiza continue to pound the drum for indigenous metal.

The modern day Mapuche warriors started 2026 by shaking the foundation of Gojira frontman Joe Duplantier’s studio before sharing the stage with Avenged Sevenfold and Mr. Bungle. Now, as they prepare to journey across Europe’s major summer festival circuit, the indigenous metal band are debuting a new song for the first time since their groundbreaking, critically-acclaimed and Chilean Grammy-nominated album ÜL.

Today, Mawiza are releasing a lyric video for their new single “MÜR”. While unplugged, by joining forces with Mira Ceti (Heilung) and Anne Olsen (Danefae), the Mapuche metal band lead a new anthem for indigenous people everywhere.

“In English, MÜR means ‘Together’”, Mawiza vocalist and guitarist Awka says. “This song connects with our ancestral values and reminds us the importance of working together across generations”.

“We wanted this song to not only represent the Mapuche people, but indigenous people all over the world who have lost a part of their culture to colonizers”, Mawiza bassist Zewü says.

“‘MÜR’ is a song about people coming  together”, Ceti continues. “Joining in with so many beautiful voices from across the world is a great honor. I chose to sing in Occitan, a language from the southern half of France, as a way to remind us of the importance of keeping a diversity of culture alive”.

"I haven’t don’t much featured work before, so I was very happy and a bit intimidated when Awka and the rest of Mawiza reached out to me about collaborating on ‘MÜR’”, says Anne Olsen.

“Heritage is a strange thing”, Olsen continues. “We can try to deny that it sets us apart, but we all have different cultures, stories and traditions. To me, ‘MÜR’ is about how these differences shouldn’t divide us; rather, they should remind us that we all come from somewhere. Naturally, if we understand each other’s heritage, we are one step closer to understanding each other. It was a wonderful song to work on, and the vocals in Mapudungun are so powerful. It was truly inspiring. Now, I just wait and hope to see if performed live some day”.

The video for “MÜR” was created by Jesus Carrillo.

Green Carnation Announce A Dark Poem, Part III: The Messiah Complex

At no point over the last 25 years has Green Carnation ever shied away from a challenge. Whether completing one of the most ambitious individual epics in metal’s historic archives or performing their acoustic verses under a mountain dam, the prog bards have always flashed a flare for the dramatic. However, from the very beginning, there was one tale - or three, to be exact - that eluded the Norwegians. That is, until now.

Having reached crushing new peaks and delved into their deepest, darkest and most personal depths during the first two parts of A Dark Poem, today, Green Carnation are bringing their critically-acclaimed album trilogy to a bold conclusion. With the announcement of A Dark Poem, Part III: The Messiah Complex, the band are putting the finishing touches on another masterpiece that stands as one of the defining statements in their storied career.

A Dark Poem is by far our biggest achievement since Light of Day, Day of Darkness”, Green Carnation vocalist Kjetil Nordhus says. “Our new album trilogy returns to the epic storytelling that put us on the map back in 2001. While the reception to Part I and Part II has been overwhelmingly positive for us, we do believe that Part III saves the best for last. The Messiah Complex ties the whole story together with our most uncompromising statement to date”.

“The intention behind A Dark Poem  was to build a completely new musical universe”, Green Carnation bassist and primary lyricist  Stein Roger Sordal says. “While the direction revealed itself as the creative journey unfolded, The Messiah Complex was carefully planned with a clear vision for where we wanted the story to end. Our goal was for all three parts to stand on their own, but Part III brings them all together into a unified whole”.

Watch the premiere of the extremely meta music video for pitch-perfect lead single “Unconditional Artificial Chemistry” Below:

A Dark Poem, Part III: The Messiah Complex comes out September 4, 2026 on Season of Mist.

https://orcd.co/greencarnationadarkpoempart3

“The video for ‘Unconditional Artificial Chemistry’ tells a meta story about the danger of artificial intelligence”, Nordhus says. “We all know, if we are being honest with ourselves, that A.I. is going to take control of our lives. There are powerful people who stand to profit from it and that makes its takeover inevitable.

“The video shows this happening before our eyes” Nordhus continues. As soon as the A.I. takes control, our likeness is corrupted. Before the song is even finished, we’re completely destroyed”.

The video for “Unconditional Artificial Chemistry” was directed and edited by Rikard Amodei.

Catch Green Carnation during their upcoming hometown shows and European summer festival dates.

During their headlining show in September at the Kilden Performing Arts Centre, the band will perform A Dark Poem in its entirety for the first and final time. Already, fans from 18 different countries have purchased tickets for this once-in-a-lifetime event.

Wailin Storms Stoke Fresh Dread on Howling New Single “Dead End”

Recipients of high praise from NPR, The Needle Drop, Brooklyn Vegan, Decibel and Metal Hammer, Wailin Storms have caught fire since migrating to North Carolina in 2014. Now, the Durham natives are fanning the flames even higher with their upcoming fifth album and first for Season of Mist. On The Arsonist, the band deliver a fiery baptism of Southern gothic rock.

Today, Wailin Storms are premiering a suspenseful music video for the third and final advanced single from The Arsonist with Treble. With the ghost of David Lynch riding passenger seat, “Dead End” takes a harrowing post-punk turn.

‘Dead End’ is about seeing yourself after you die”, Wailin Storms vocalist and guitarist Justin Storms says. “It’s the first song on The Arsonist and one of the first that was written for the album. It flowed out of me while I was messing around with my Strymon El Capistan guitar pedal. It sets the tone by jolting you straight into a fever dream that’s filled with cryptic messages from beyond.

While shrouded by a doomy and dreamy atmosphere, The Arsonist is inflamed by real life anxieties. Taking inspiration from René Magritte, the album’s cover art, which is heavily shadowed except for a tiny house gone up in flames, was painted by Storms himself. “These songs are steeped in the trials and tribulations of everyday life”, he says. The title track is slowly engulfed by love’s eternal flame. “Like the wind controls the sea”, he croons over the gentle sway of his guitar. “You always had a hold on me”. The thunderous climax surges with such feverish intensity that it threatens to send the night of passion up in smoke.

Amidst the wreckage of The Arsonist, Wailin Storms do find a semblance of peace. “It’s All Dark Now Where Your Eyes Used to Be” ends the album with a ghostly flicker of gothic romance. “I know a place where we can sit and grow old”, Storms offers with grim assurance. A piano tolls like death’s bell as he glimpses up at a church that resembles a skull. “There’s a sliver of hope in coming to terms with death”, he concludes. “Life is temporary and that's where its beauty lies”.

On The Arsonist, Wailin Storms deliver a fiery baptism of Southern gothic rock.

Miscreance Announce Second Album Reminiscence

Fashioned in high-top sneakers and sleeveless band tees, Northern Italy’s Miscreance proudly reflect the old-school spirit. Upon debuting with Season of Mist in 2022, the band were likened by the press to Death, Sadus, Voivod and other undying greats from the alternate timeline that is the history of extreme metal. But their upcoming second LP isn’t just another blast from the past.

Today, Miscreance are announcing their new album, Reminiscence, with a chilling music video for its lead single “Scalp Ceremony”. The band continue to pound and shred at a blood-thirsty pace, but as they cut through its  unfamiliar passages, the song ventures into dark and strange new territory for the genre.

“Through a collective hallucination, a voyage through time led us to discover a moment in human history that was lost”, Miscreance says about the far-out path they took to Reminiscence. “This album is a testimony of what we have seen, heard, perceived and imagined, told through our own perspective on old-school, thrashy, technical death metal”.

Even extreme and obscene artists like Miscreance are well-versed in the classics. With its creepy, cultish, handcam video, underground tape collectors will feel at home watching “Scalp Ceremony”. “We still play old-school tech-thrash”, assures guitarist Andrea Granauro. But while faithful to both Atheist and Dark Angel,  Reminiscence isn’t an attempt to recall metal’s glory days. With each sharp and fast turn that the band take during their new single, the genre’s signposts warp until they’re  unrecognizable.

No one ever even sees it comes”, growls drummer Andrea Feltrin with murderous delight. For their final sacrifice on “Scalp Ceremony”, Miscreance bang the long-haired heads of their captive audience with a flurry of bongos.

While recorded in Italy, Miscreance discovered the concept for Reminiscence by sifting through the sands of time. Along with splintering riffs and trippy tempo shifts, the band uncovered a hidden world where jungle-dwelling hunters and digeridoo coexist with strange tongues, telepathic surgeries and a burning celestial corpse. As imagined by Iranian artist Mona Shiraz, the album’s cover art is a modern interpretation of the kind of painting that was all the rage during the Stone Age.

We are all very happy with how our first album turned out but we wanted to go bigger by tying Reminiscence to a specific concept”, guitarist Tommaso Cappelletti says.

Bassist Jean-Claude Rossignol explains further. “What we’ve created is a ‘lost album’, sent from an unknown civilization that’s both futuristic and extremely primitive. Through psychic powers and capabilities that transcend earthly comprehension, these primordial extraterrestrials have achieved total neural unity. Yet innate wickedness still lures inside of them, harboring the need for preys, scalps and lust”.

Climbing “The Moaning Hill” is not for the faint of heart, but the intricate twists along its perverse path lead to truly sacred pleasures.

“You’ve never known the face of death / But now it becomes yours”, Feltrin growls amidst the many peaks hidden within “Oracle’s Rift”. As the band tear through a torturous passage with ruthless precision, the last thing you see – or hear – is death metal’s future mutating right before our eyes.

With Reminiscence, Miscreance unlock a mind-altering experience of old-school technical death metal.

Created by lighting designer Yann Gaignard, the stage design places the pagan superheroes inside a fantastical post-apocalyptic Viking camp that’s dominated by towering, fluorescent totems. The setlist includes current hits like “Nauðiz” and the title track from their new album, plus the viral smash “Berserkr”, which has 1.6 million views and counting on YouTube.

Stoned Jesus Go Deeper and Darker on New Single “Under the Skin”

Stoned Jesus are true trailblazers. While often associated with the stoner crowd, the heavy progressive rockers have experimented with folk, prog, pop and alternative rock amidst familiar doses of doom. Last year, the band entered the first phase of an expansive album trilogy that promises to take them from the sun to the moon and back. Songs to Sun was named one of the best albums of 2025 by Doom Charts, Rock Hard, The Obelisk and other outlets. Now, as frontman Igor Sydorenko and his bandmates prepare to blaze through the European summer festival circuit, they’re cycling into the next phase of their evolution.

Today, Stoned Jesus are releasing a new single. Though packed with the band’s reliable dose of heaviness, the progressive post-metal contained within “Under the Skin” shows them entering the darkest, most daring and deeply moving territory of their 17-year career.

“Our upcoming album trilogy started last year with Songs to Sun, which is a loud and heavy album that’s big on choruses and meaty riffs”, Sydorenko says before turning to Stoned Jesus’ latest single. “‘Under the Skin’ begins our next phase in a somewhat similar fashion, but with a sinister twist. The fans of the very first SJ demo will recognize the influence of post-metal, which resurfaced after our tour last summer with the legendary Cult of Luna. But “Under the Skin” is not a step back. It’s darker, bolder and more introspective than anything the band has done before”.

Watch the music video for “Under the Skin” below.

On the surface, “Under the Skin” picks up right where Stoned Jesus left off. The sinking anxiety that swallowed Songs to Sun gives way here to heavy breathing. And while catchy as ever, the song’s weighty riff isn’t the only dark force that’s rattling inside Sydorenko’s head. “I feel it, it’s creeping in”, he strains, backed by bassist Andrew Rodin, who adds some of the harshest vocals the band have ever pressed to wax.

The video for “Under the Skin” was filmed while Stoned Jesus were recording in Cologne, Germany at Goblin Sound Studio with sound engineer Andy Rosczyk (ex-Ultha). Despite the song’s bleary state of mind (“Promises to keep / I will never sleep”), the band never lose their glow. As drummer Yurii Ciel guides them through a proggy middle passage that leads deeper into the shadows, we catch a glimpse not only into their psyche but the shape of what’s to come. “Sky glider, gone wilder / With the setting sun”.

The video for “Under the Skin” was edited by Marco Menestrina.

Songs to Sun arrived in 2025 as the first album in a forthcoming trilogy that once complete, will stand as the pinnacle of what's been a decades-long trip for Stoned Jesus. While picking up where Father Light left off, Sydorenko and his new mates nodded to Seven Thunders Roar and The Harvest along the way. But by merging metal's fiery intensity with mind-melting grooves, vintage prog and their catchiest choruses yet, they brought the many distinct phases of Stoned Jesus to a bright, burning head. The album was named one of the best the year by Doom Charts, Rock Hard, The Obelisk, Weedian, Metal Lair and other outlets.

In 2026, Stoned Jesus are moving into the darkest, most daring and deeply moving phase of their career, starting with the band’s latest single "Under the Skin”.

Defiled Premiere New Album 'Altered State'

Defiled aren’t relics or custodians for the old-school. While the Japanese legends have shared stages with Morbid Angel, Mayhem, Cannibal Corpse and Incantation since the early ‘90s, they’ve carved their own unmistakable path through death metal’s hallowed crypts. With their new album, founding member Yusuke Sumita and his band of technical masters continue to alter the genre in unthinkable ways. On Altered State, they deliver a dizzying blast of death metal straight from the future.

Altered State comes out tomorrow, Friday, June 12 on Season of Mist, but you can hear all 14 mind-altering songs today by listening to the full album stream below.

“Like many other bands, our musical roots are heavily influenced by early ‘90s death metal and ‘80s thrash and hardcore, however, our interpretation is different and has branched off from the current scene”, Sumita says. “On Altered State, there are many catchy hooks, but tricky progressive rhythms and song structures can be found as well. The album may not be understandable after a few listens, but it taps into a blind spot that many bands have missed. We invite anyone to join us in exploring the outermost edges of the genre”.

Holissstik Announce Debut Album Chapter I: This Endless Solitude

After more than 30 years, Tor-Helge Skei remains one of the most consistent and surprising talents in extreme music. A founding member of the critically acclaimed group Manes, the Norwegian mainstay, multi-instrumentalist and producer has pushed the boundaries of black metal and the avant-garde. Now, with his new collaborative project, Holissstik, he’s expanding his vision like never before.

Today, Skei is announcing Holissstik’s debut album Chapter 1: This Endless Solitude. The album is the first in a trilogy and arrives with a captivating music video for its genre-busting lead single. While full of regrets, “The Rhythm of Silence” speaks to the collective spirit that makes Holissstik such a unified force.

“Collaboration is the heart and soul of Holissstik”, Skei says. “The name comes from the Greek word Hólos, which, in English, is the root word for ‘whole’. The idea is that the music as a whole is greater than its individual contributions”.

“With Hollissstik, we’ve built something that transcends traditional metal by focusing on the ‘holos’ - the beauty of the complete, interconnected whole”, says Manes member Tor-Arne Helgesen, who contributes drums to “The Rhythm of Silence”.

Fellow Manes member Eivind Fjøseide, who contributes guitar to “The Rhythm of Silence”, agrees. “Skei and I have worked together on music for more than 30 years. Together, we have a special chemical musical reaction that makes things very exciting”.

Watch the video for “The Rhythm of Silence” below.

Chapter 1: This Endless Solitude comes out August 14, 2026 on Season of Mist.

Although the very nature of Holissstik demands that we expect the unexpected, the collective’s future certainly seems to guarantee obsidian horizons and torrential deluges of artistic truth. In other words, the project promises to persistently and ritualistically pummel us with devastating yet necessary, epic masterworks. Skei and his collaborators truly present the most immersive experiences possible and, in Manes language, offer a safe place in the unsafe; dive in with your hands bound, and be submerged within the imprisoning brilliance. Skei continues to participate in a range of outstanding groups, and yet Holissstik stands as the most unpredictable and, counterintuitive as it might sound, accessible undertaking in the history of his illustrious career.

Emptiness Release New Single “The Threat”

Black/death experimental metal band Emptiness are releasing “The Threat” as the second single from their upcoming seventh album Nowhere Speaks. Stretching the boundaries between black and death metal, “The Threat” is located in territory that, for the Belgian band, is intimately familiar: the darkness of the human condition.

Listen to “The Threat” below:

From early in their career, EMPTINESS has worked this way: Jérémie Bézier handling production across all its dimensions, Olivier J.L.W. directing the visual work in its entirety. Sound and image conceived, shaped and finalized from within. Nowhere Speaks continues that closed circuit, as it always has been.

Line-up:
Jérémie Bezier — Vocals, Bass
Olivier J.L.W. — Guitars
Simon L. — Guitars
Dea Hydra — Synths
Laye Louhenapessy — Drums

Merrimack Cover Depeche Mode’s “Wrong”

Veteran French black metal band Merrimack are releasing a cover of “Wrong” by Depeche Mode. Originally appearing on the UK synth-pop band’s 2009 album Sounds of the Universe, “Wrong” reached the Top 10 in nine countries and peaked at Number #1 on the U.S. Billboard Dance Club Songs chart. While faithful to the original, Merrimack’s cover is black metal in every breath.

Listen to “Wrong” Below:

Merrimack’s latest album, Of Grace and Gravity, is available now on Season of Mist.

https://redirect.season-of-mist.com/MerrimackGraceGravity

Merrimack’s cover of “Wrong” is rooted in long-standing devotion. Guitarist, Perversifier, who proposed the cover to his bandmates, describes Depeche Mode as having "only grown better over the years". He singles out "Wrong" for "already carrying more darkness than even Black Metal rarely reaches."

Merrimack recorded their cover of “Wrong” during the sessions for  their 2012 album The Acausal Mass. The cover was shelved for more than a decade before the band returned to record vocals. Perversifier says their cover "highlights just how dark the original song already is". They preserved all the notes from the original, only bringing "the level of violence that Black Metal can bring”. Where Depeche Mode channel obsessive self-negation through cold synth-pop, Merrimack strip away any distance the original might have offered.

Although MERRIMACK decided to reach out to a larger audience with the release of their first full-length 'Ashes of Purification', the Parisians did not sever their roots with the underground at any time. With the following albums, 'Of Entropy and Life Denial' (2006) and 'Grey Rigorism' (2009), MERRIMACK closed ranks with the most influential, active, and authentic acts of the French black metal scene. Their classic combination of harsh sound with epic structures appealed to critics and fans alike and put the band on their celebrated first US tour with MARDUK and NACHTMYSTIUM in 2009.

After recording 'The Acausal Mass' (2012) in the legendary Necromorbus Studio (WATAIN, DESTRÖYER 666) again, MERRIMACK embarked on a European tour with Norwegian icons MAYHEM and accepted invitations to prestigious festivals such as Hellfest in their native France, Germany's Party-San Open Air and Summer Breeze as well as Montreal's Messe des Morts in Canada. With their latest album, 'Omegaphilia', MERRIMACK were breathing fresh life into an exhausted genre. While ignoring epithets such as progressive, post-, and avant-garde, the French focused on razor-sharp songwriting, captivating melodies, and close to perfect arrangements.

"Graveyards of Joy" draws from the ghost towns and emptied provinces of TodoMal’s native Spain, conjuring a landscape where "no gods'll ever settle here, 'cos all they ever do is walk by." As the song unfolds, the desolation gives way: new people arrive, signs of life begin to re-emerge and something resembling hope takes shape during a finale that’s as sweeping as the landscape it describes.

TodoMal was formed in 2020 by Christopher B. Wildman and Javier Fernández Milla, two veteran multi-instrumentalists of the Spanish underground scene. A Greater Good appeared on multiple year-end lists, including Mondosonoro's Top 10 albums of 2023, and sold through its initial pressing. The band has since expanded into a five-piece live ensemble and performed at festivals including Be Prog! My Friend, Under The Doom Fest and Frantic Fest, sharing stages with Candlemass, My Dying Bride and Dødheimsgard. Extensive European touring is confirmed for 2026, including a co-headlining run with Evoken across ten dates in July and August.

Graveyards of Joy is the third album and the closing chapter of a trilogy. Written in solitude following personal tragedy, it channels grief, anger and hard-won hope into nine tracks of slow-burning, widescreen doom. The music breathes: vast Hammond-driven passages give way to desolate folk, Morricone-like strings open onto dusty cinematic plains, and heavy riffs anchor songs that never lose sight of melody. A DIY record of striking emotional depth and modern, alternative edge.

Untitled With Drums Announce Sophomore Album Made Flesh

Made Flesh maps a free-flowing exploration of the human psyche. The album deals with the ego, denial, toxicity and faith without coming to any easy resolutions. “Matter” is about the almost irrepressible need to put oneself above everything else and to be the only one who counts. "I wanna be important / I wanna be my own Sun / I've got to be the only one to matter now,", vocalist Martin Le Borgne sings. The song doesn't condemn so much as expose. It’s a mirror held up to a reflex we would rather not recognize in ourselves.

With this sophomore album, UNTITLED WITH DRUMS establish themselves as the beacon of a French rock scene struggling to take risks, too often settling for crude heaviness. Theirs cuts deeper — straight to the flesh.

On their new podcast, Heilung are inviting longtime converts and newcomers into their sacred realm, where history and spirit converge into a healing ritual. Hosted by founding member, singer and shamanic practitioner Kai Uwe Faust, The Podcast journeys into the lore, traditions and primal forces that shape the world-renowned Nordic collective and their unmistakable Amplified History.

Previously on The Podcast, Faust shared the mythological roots and historical references behind beloved songs “Alfadhirhaiti”,  “Marduk”, “Traust” and “Nesso” . Now, during its fifth episode, he sits down with Songleikr vocalist Ingrid Galadriel to reflect on the origins of Heilung. Together, they look back to the time before Heilung existed, their first encounters and the slow gathering of voices that guides their collective path.

“This episode is a personal account of how human connection, memory and sound grew into Heilung’s Amplified History”, Faust says.

The release of this episode coincides with the arrival of the Blue Moon, which signifies a time of heightened energy and potential.

Their performance rituals draw crowds into an intimate, mystical space that threads together earth, fire and incense with throat singing, primordial rhythms, subtle electronic textures, a mesmerizing light show and instruments made from human bone.

Green Carnation Release New Video for Aching Ballad “Loneliness Untold, Loneliness Unfold”

Now, as they prepare to turn the page to the bold and resounding final chapter of A Dark Poem, Green Carnation are releasing a new video for the most raw and aching ballad from Part II. In a rare appearance, the band’s bassist and primary lyricist Stein Roger Sordal steps in front of the mic on “Loneliness Untold, Loneliness Unfold” with hopes of reaching a long-lost friend.

“Obviously, this song is about loneliness, but more specifically, it’s about watching a very good and close friend gradually shut himself off from the rest of the world”, Sordal says. “It’s about sitting on the sidelines, watching it happen and not being able to do anything about it”.

Watch the video for “Loneliness Untold, Loneliness Unfold” Below:

A Dark Poem, Part II: Sanguis is out now on Season of Mist.

After reaching crushing new highs during its grand and gloomy opener, A Dark Poem, Part II: Sanguis reveals Green Carnation at their deepest, darkest and most vulnerable depths. Two decades have past since bassist and lyricist Stein Roger Sordal last took the lead on vocals, but he alone carries the burden of “Loneliness Untold, Loneliness Unfold”. Accompanied by little more than a somber guitar melody that unwinds like the slow passage of time, he delivers one of the most chilling ballads that the prog bards have ever penned. “Do you want to die?” he asks a reclusive friend. That his voice doesn’t waver in posing the question confirms his fear of already knowing the answer.

“The songs on Part II come as they are, with no filter”, Sordal says. “I needed to set these stories free and let them out”.

The video for “Loneliness Untold, Loneliness Unfold” was directed and edited by Rikard Amodei.

Part II introduces more peaks and valleys into the overarching narrative of A Dark Poem, but nowhere does the album’s bleeding-heart core shine through more achingly than its closing ballad. Graced by Ingrid Ose’s soothing flute, “Lunar Tale” positively sparkles, even as it casts a rather grim beacon into the future. “The end justifies the means, you’ll see”, Nordhus sings with eerily quiet confidence. As the piano seeps beneath the moonlight, Sanguisleaves fans hanging in suspense over where this trilogy will end.

Erdve Premiere Crushing New Album 'Epigrama'

Since emerging from Lithuania in 2016, Erdve have experimented with heavy music’s imposing framework. The expiermental metallic hardcore band’s debut established a heavy foundation, while their follow-up chiseled away with dramatic intensity. Now, they are pushing their vision to more crushing extremes on their new album Epigrama.

Epigrama comes out tomorrow, Friday, May 29, 2026 on Season of Mist but you can hear all eight devastating tracks today by listening to the full album stream below:

Erdve have earned a reputation for unconventional experiments. The band have performed in Vilnius’ St. John’s Church and the historic Lukiškės Prison. Metal Injection hailed their debut Vaitojimas as an ”uncompromising patchwork of hardcore punk and sludge metal”. In reviewing follow-up Savigaila, Nine Circles marveled at how “all that harshness that is at once apparent settles out and mellows into something that is quite beautiful and begs repeated listens”.

Now, with Epigrama, Erdve have redefined their hardened sludgy metallic experiment into their most conceptually focused and structurally deliberate album. The band confront grief, guilt and stagnation as structural forces rather than passing emotions. Every decision, or absence of decision, is treated as moral debt. From the suffocating grief of lead single “Nyra”, the all-consuming descent of “Ydos” to the madness of the title track and the irreversible acceptance of closer “Svertas,” the record unfolds as a journey from doubt to clarity through collapse. A moment isn’t captured. A process is endured.

Wailin Storms Beckon Us into the Night on New Single “You Never Answered”

Recipients of high praise from NPR, The Needle Drop, Brooklyn Vegan, Decibel and Metal Hammer, Wailin Storms have caught fire since migrating to North Carolina in 2014. Now, the Durham natives are fanning the flames even higher with their upcoming fifth album and first for Season of Mist. On The Arsonist, the band deliver a fiery baptism of Southern gothic rock.

Today, Wailin Storms are premiering a music video for the second advanced single from The Arsonist with CVLT Nation. Howling and haunted, “You Never Answered” is a desperate plea to put down our phones and answer the call of the night.

“This song is about disconnecting from screens and returning to exploration”, Wailin Storms vocalist and guitarist Justin Storms says. “Don’t let your phone lead to your death by taking a selfie on a mountain. Pick up a manual film camera. Take some acid. Pick up a paint brush, cook, listen to a record, walk in nature, be there for the ones you love and find your path in the world without being tethered to technology”.

The Arsonist calls back to Wailin Storms’ past. Recorded by Matt Talbott of Hum in full analog, the album rekindles the band’s roots in raw-to-the-bone blues punk. Like being woken from a bad dream, “You Never Answered” opens with frantic guitars before kicking down the door with a doomy groove.

“So much music is drowning in sterile digital production”, Storms says. “With this album, we recorded everything in analog. We didn’t touch a computer until mixing”.

Inspired by David Lynch and René Magritte, Wailin Storms do throw heavier splashes of surrealism into the fires of The Arsonist. “Climb right out, out of your head, and into the night”, Storms commands amidst howling riffs on “You Never Answered”. But the album is inflamed by real life anxieties. Before it drifts into a smoke-fueled daze, the song’s melody proves so intoxicating that your left with no choice but to follow the band into the dark. “Time to take a bullet that could change your mind”.

“I’ve always been fascinated with fire”, says Storms, who was raised by a church pianist and a Baptist preacher. As a child, growing up in Corpus Christi, Texas, he came dangerously close to accidentally burning his family’s house down. “It speaks to our inherent attraction to danger and annihilation, but also, our hope for transformation”.

Defiled Upend Death Metal Convention on New Single “Altered State”

While masters of the vile art known as death metal since the early ‘90s, Defiled aren’t relics or custodians for the old-school. The Japanese legends have shared stages with Morbid Angel, Mayhem and Cannibal Corpse, but, historically, they’ve carved their own singular path through metal’s hallowed crypts. Their upcoming ninth album continues to alter the genre in unthinkable ways. On Altered State, they deliver a dizzying blast of death metal straight from the future.

Today, Defiled are releasing a music video for the third and final advanced single from Altered State. While upholding death metal’s raw speed, the title track from the band’s new album upends all conventions at every twist and turn.

“This song showcases our core identity”, Defiled guitarist and founding member Yusuke Sumita says. “The tempo shifts lean more toward progressive or fusion methodologies than traditional death metal, creating a dramatic, thrilling atmosphere that defies monotony”.
