THE PULL OF AUTUMN shares 'Lost Time' feat. JULIUS MANNING - hushed intimacy from new 'Memory Tree' album

"A gem... A genuine and welcome earworm" ~ Big Takeover Magazine

"Beautiful... Pure and simple. Lyrically emotional and thought-provoking. It has perfect instrumentation and musicality" ~ Spill Magazine

"Better to travel well than to arrive... this band is not about merely travelling, this is exploration down the unbeaten paths of the glorious unknown" ~ The Swindonian

Indie art-pop outfit The Pull of Autumn presents their new offering 'Lost Time'. Featuring San Francisco singer-songwriter Julius Manning, this echoes the hushed intimacy of Nick Drake, only with heightened dream-energy, A highlight of their fifth album 'Memory Tree', a vibrant yet reflective collection of poignant indie folk songs released by the Boston indie imprint RBM Records.

Led by Rhode Island native Daniel Darrow of 80s post-punk group Johanna’s House of Glamour, The Pull of Autumn is a dynamic collective - like a revolving door of collaborators whose other core members are Bruce MacLeod, Matthew Darrow, Luke Skyscraper James (I.R.S. recording artist Fashion), who also created the video for this new Julius Manning-led single. Each release involves notable and emerging artists, drawn from the local scene and further abroad.

Julius Manning is a long-time Pull of Autumn collaborator, who earlier appeared on the 'Small Colors' and 'Beautiful Broken World' albums. A veteran of the Southern California music scene, Julius’ music recalls the sixty’s British folk music of Nick Drake, together with Sandy Denny's dreamy sound.

Described as "a melancholy remembrance of moments in time and life", the 'Memory Tree' album features numerous outstanding artists, including Philip Parfitt (The Perfect Disaster), Ricky Humphrey (This Twisted Wreckage), San Francisco-based artist Leigh Gregory, Berkeley singer-songwriter Sophia Campbell, and Rhode Island Rock’n Roll Hall of Fame inductee Paul Everett.

A veteran of the Southern California music scene, Julius’ music recalls the sixty’s British folk music of Nick Drake, together with Sandy Denny's dreamy sound.

"Originally recorded by the late John Neff (David Lynch’s Bluebob and the sountracks for 'Lost Highway', 'Blue Velvet', 'Mulholland Drive'), it was a lot of fun to talk and share files  back and forth. John was excited to know the song was getting a chance to be heard. He also shared my love for hardware synths and electronics," says Daniel Darrow.

Julius Manning adds, "'Lost Time' was originally written in a living room in California. To me, it feels like a way to cope with what’s coming in our world - the escape in order to let go where those dark places run deep. I was happy to see John Neff and Daniel working together to bring this song to the world ."

Earlier, the band shared the lead track 'I Was Just Dreaming', featuring Boston artist Bruce MacLeod on vocals, and 'Opening / Closing' featuring Rhode Island producer, songwriter and artist Kraig Jordan, known for his collaborations with Tanya Donnelly.

Daniel Darrow says, "Instead of the free-genre bending of what came before, this new album is focused on a continuous motion of sound that creates an overall effect of electro/acoustic music and ambient sounds. Hours were spent on the order of the track selection to create a continuous sound that tells a story reflected on the cover of the album. The tree pointing downward represents the future as well as holding onto the past. This album is a melancholy remembrance of moments in time and life. I am very excited to feature many RI artists whose music I have come to love and respect over many years. Many veterans from around the world also contribute to the album. I feel this album is a concise picture of this moment in time. Every song reflects beauty, future loves and lost loves. I am excited to bring this album and great artists to the light and to have their music heard."

'Memory Tree' arrives two years after The Pull of Autumn's 'Beautiful Broken World'album, which involved several music luminaries, including The Pop Group's Mark Stewart, Living Colour's Doug Wimbish and producer Adrian Sherwood. The Pull of Autumn released their debut eponymous album in 2018, followed by 'Afterglow' in 2019, 'Small Colors' in 2020 and 'Beautiful Broken World' in 2022.

The 'Memory Tree' album is out now, available from fine digital music platforms, including Apple Music, Spotify and  Bandcamp.

Art-rock indie-pop collective The Pull of Autumn presents their new single 'Opening / Closing' featuring Kraig Jordan. Born from the reflective period as the world began to emerge from the Covid-19 pandemic. Crafted by the songwriting duo of Kraig Jordan and Guy Benoit, and recorded at Plan of a Boy studio in Providence, Rhode Island, this track is a poignant exploration of reentry into a transformed society.

The second taste of their fifth album 'Memory Tree', this single follows 'I Was Just Dreaming', which features Boston artist Bruce MacLeod on vocals.

"Opening/Closing" harnesses the raw emotions and experiences of its creators during a time of global uncertainty and change. It features a rich blend of acoustic and electric guitars, layered with a diverse array of percussion, capturing the essence of renewal and the complex emotions tied to reengaging with the outside world," says Kraig Jordan.

"When I sent Daniel Darrow the stems to work on he expressed he wanted this add an electronic element to the song via electronics and synthesis, the results are an exciting take on electro - acoustic music"

Daniel Darrow adds “I first heard Kraig’s music through a friend, who worked with him on a electronic project called Nerve Pill. Noting that Kraig’s tastes in music were similar to mine, I began exploring his music to find he is a great songwriter and artist. I’m excited to have contributed to this track, which touches upon so many styles of composition and shared memories of a strange and often lonely time."

THE PULL OF AUTUMN shares 'I Was Just Dreaming' with easy breezy video, previewing fifth album

Boston-Rhode Island centred collective The Pull of Autumn presents their new single 'I Was Just Dreaming's, along with a reverie-filled video. The first taste of their fifth album 'Memory Tree', this song features Boston-based Bruce MacLeod on vocals.

Described as "a melancholy remembrance of moments in time and life", the album will be released via Boston-based RBM Records on CD and digitally, following up their 2022 album 'Beautiful Broken World' LP, which involved such music luminaries as The Pop Group's Mark Stewart, Living Colour's Doug Wimbish and producer Adrian Sherwood.

A ‘super group’ of sorts, The Pull of Autumn revolves around Rhode Island artist Daniel Darrow of 80s post-punk group Johanna’s House of Glamour and core members Bruce MacLeod, Matthew Darrow and Luke Skyscraper James (I.R.S. recording artist Fashion). Each release involves a revolving door of notable and emerging artists, both from the local music scene and further abroad. The band's debut 2018 eponymous album was followed by 'Afterglow' in 2019, 'Small Colors' in 2020 and 'Beautiful Broken World' in 2022.

"'I Was Just Dreaming' perfectly captures the moment of a dying crush, where you’re still all in enough to have your hopes, but are planning an exit - maybe one with a bit of a flourish. This song is brilliant. I just did the best I could with it, stripped what I had down to a couple of tracks, and sent it to Dan. He knows just what to do - here I like his choppy piano bits and the somewhere out there synth swells, perfect.  The song ends with a couple of the demo tracks spliced back in … a sort of accident, but definite nod to the title of the song," says Bruce MacLeod.

Daniel Darrow adds: "This is a cover of legendary Scotland band The Orchids. Bruce and I are both fans of Sarah Records and our cover of this song is our tribute to a great time in music. We’ve added a modern twist here that retains the core beauty of the song."

The new 'Memory Tree' album features contributions by such artists as Philip Parfitt (The Perfect Disaster), Ricky Humphrey (This Twisted Wreckage), San Francisco-based artists Leigh Gregory and Julius Manning, Berkeley singer-songwriter Sophia Campbell, and two local music legends - Rhode Island Rock’n Roll Hall of Fame inductee Paul Everett and producer, songwriter and artist Kraig Jordan

"For our new 'Memory Tree' album, the usual genre-bending music has been replaced by a well-defined continuous take on electro acoustic ambient music and jazz. I call this “night music”. It’s been created with a singular vision lyrically and musically, speaking to the past memories and touching upon what the future may hold. The album features many veteran Rhode Island artists, whose music has moved me for many years, as well as artists from around the world, including Britain and France," says Daniel Darrow.

'I Was Just Dreaming' is available exclusively via Bandcamp, where the 'Memory Tree' album can be pre-ordered. On May 31, this record also goes live on digital music platforms, such as Apple Music and Spotify.

'I Was Just Dreaming' is now available exclusively via Bandcamp, where the 'Memory Tree' album (out on May 31) can already be pre-ordered. As of May 31, this record can be obtained from fine digital music platforms, including Apple Music and Spotify.

Art rock collective The Pull of Autumn have teamed up with Luke 'Skyscraper' James of I.R.S. recording artist FASHION on 'Funhouse', the latest offering from the collective's fourth album 'Beautiful Broken World', an ambitious 15-track undertaking that began in early 2020. James is a key player in The Pull of Autumn, having contributed to every album released to date.

Earlier, the band released 'Outlaw Empire' featuring The Pop Group legend Mark Stewart and bassist Doug Wimbish (Living Colour, Tackhead, The Rolling Stones, Sugarhill Gang), which was remixed by legendary producer Adrian Sherwood. That was followed by 'Live Today' with Tokyo dreamgazers Once Grace Forever.

This record involves a number of iconic artists, including Philip Parfitt of The Perfect Disaster, Stuart Moxham of Rough Trade postpunk band Young Marble Giants and John Neff, who has contributed to multiple David Lynch films and is also a member of David Lynch’s Blubob.

The Pull of Autumn is a ‘super group’ of sorts, with songs orbiting around Rhode Island artist Daniel Darrow of Johanna’s House of Glamour and involving numerous emerging and notable musicians from the local music scene and further abroad. The band's debut 2018 eponymous album was followed by 'Afterglow' in 2019 and 'Small Colors' in 2020.

"This song is about how people in rural communities used to have to wait a year for the circus/ carnival to come to town. Then it would be gone. As opposed to the oceans of distraction and "entertainment" that the human race currently wallows around in," says Luke 'Skyscraper' James.

Daniel Darrow adds, "For 'Funhouse', I wanted to add an inner-ear sound that would give the track an otherworldly sound. Luke is a fabulous writer and easily grasps many different sounds in sound design. We’ve been friends since 2018 and I’m glad we have a wonderful friendship as well as shared interest in all types of music."

'Beautiful Broken World' is out now, available across online stores and streaming platforms like Apple Music and Spotify, as well as Bandcamp, where it can be obtained directly from the artist.

"For this new Pull of Autumn album, I wanted to place greater emphasis on the production of the music as to develop a signature sound that is heard throughout the entire recording. Also lyrically, the tunes speak to the changing and sometimes chaotic times we’ve all been through. I’ve grown more confident in the process of using purely acoustic elements with electronic sound design to create a new interesting sound," says Daniel Darrow.

"Once again, it was a lot of fun having musicians from many different backgrounds come together to create a group of songs that ultimately make the entire album come together as one united voice. It’s been a lot of fun working with artists from all over the world and experiencing their completely different methods of creating art, even if it reaches a few ears. I find much joy in that!".

As of December 9, 'Beautiful Broken World' will be available across online stores and streaming platforms like Apple Music and Spotify, as well as Bandcamp, where it can be obtained directly from the artist.

Art rock collective The Pull of Autumn presents their new single 'Live Today', a joint collaboration with Tokyo dreamgaze band Once Grace Forever. with a kaleidoscopic video created by Rosie Varela of acclaimed shoegaze band EEP.

This comes on the trail of the lead track - 'Outlaw Empire' featuring The Pop Group legend Mark Stewart and bassist Doug Wimbish (Living Colour, Tackhead, The Rolling Stones, Sugarhill Gang), which is remixed by legendary producer Adrian Sherwood.

"This song celebrates living in the now and enjoying each day as it unfolds. Its rhythm gently unfolds into an anthem of soft lifting sound," says Daniel Darrow.

"It was exciting to work with much younger musicians on this track as it helps build bridges musically from artists who span across generations to find a community bond in the craft of songwriting and musical production."

In a never-ending search reaching every corner of the world, The Pull of Autumn's architect Daniel Darrow came across Once Grace Forever while listening to independent radio. Preliminary contact, mutual admiration and talks of collaboration ultimately culminated in this song with Darrow giving it a dream-pop feel by slowing the song down and adding light synth textures and long harmonic trails to the body.

These initial tracks preview the band's fourth album 'Beautiful Broken World', an ambitious 15-track undertaking that began in early 2020 and involves a number of iconic artists, including Philip Parfitt of The Perfect Disaster, Stuart Moxham of Rough Trade postpunk band Young Marble Giants, Luke Skyscraper James of I.R.S. recording artist FASHION and John Neff, who has contributed to multiple David Lynch films and is also a member of David Lynch’s Blubob.

Art rock collective The Pull of Autumn presents their new single 'Outlaw Empire' featuring Mark Stewart, founding member of the legendary UK band The Pop Group, and remixed by the esteemed Adrian Sherwood.

The first taste of the band's fourth album 'Beautiful Broken World', The Pull of Autumn mastermind Daniel Darrow incorporates elements of granular glitch synthesis to the track, the end result being a daring mixture of dub, jazz, spoken word and electronic music.

Long wishing to collaborate with Mark Stewart, the opportunity finally arose for Darrow thanks to Scott Crow of Emergency Heart Records, through which both Darrow and Stewart have released music. Fortunately Stewart, known for his experimental postpunk-jazz explorations and his production and remixes for such artists as The Fall, The Slits and Nine Inch Nails, thought it was a great idea.

Also featuring bassist Doug Wimbish (Living Colour, Tackhead and sessional musician for The Rolling Stones, Mick Jagger, Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five, Depeche Mode, Sugarhill Gang and James Brown), this track was given the golden remix treatment by the legendary Adrian Sherwood, English record producer and owner of the famed On-U-Sound Records, the first label to experiment with early dub reggae music using echo, reverb and delay techniques. Mixing dub with other forms of electronic music, Sherwood has created remixes for Depeche Mode, Primal Scream, Skinny Puppy and Sinead O' Connor.

'Beautiful Broken World' is an ambitious 15-track undertaking that began in early 2020 and involves a number of iconic artists. They include Philip Parfitt of The Perfect Disaster, Stuart Moxham of Rough Trade postpunk band Young Marble Giants, Luke Skyscraper James of I.R.S. recording artist FASHION and John Neff, who has contributed to multiple David Lynch films and is also a member of David Lynch’s Blubob.

The Pull of Autumn is a ‘super group’ of sorts, with songs orbiting around Rhode Island artist Daniel Darrow from Johanna’s House of Glamour and involving numerous emerging and notable musicians from the local music scene and from far abroad. The band debuted with their eponymous album in 2018, followed by 'Afterglow' in 2019 and 'Small Colors' in 2020.

As of October 5, 'Outlaw Empire' will be available across online stores and streaming platforms like Apple Music and Spotify, as well as Bandcamp, where the "Beautiful Broken World' album (slated for release on November 18) is already available for pre-order.
