The Nomadic Release Two New Singles, "The Absolution" and "Marie Antoinette"; New Record Drops December 12th!

Following on from the release of their first singles "Treading Water", "All Changed", "First Light", "Don’t Give Up on Your Dreams", "Hearts and Minds" and "Revolution", The Nomadic has released two new singles. "The Absolution" and "Marie Antoinette" from their sophomore album New Horizons out now all all major platforms!

Singer Songwriter Rob Gaylard relocated home to Sydney Australia in February 2022 after 5 years as a regular feature of the New York City indie rock scene and recorded New Horizons with Dan Frizza in Sydney at Forbes Studios.

"The Absolution is a song about love, loss, forgiveness and recovery.. It is for sure a nod to The Boss himself, aka Bruce Springsteen, and is heavily influenced by my time in Afghanistan, and in particular the mental health issues caused by America’s troop surge in 2009. It was and is a time of great personal loss, and for many Afghan and US families. It is also heavily inspired by the case of Beau Bergdahl who was held captive from 2009-2014," says Rob Gaylard.

About the new release "Marie Antoinette", Rob adds, “It’s incredibly exciting to be releasing Marie Antoinette today! It feels like the culmination of a long journey, from the initial conception of the songs to the development and creation of the final product in the studio, mixing and mastering! Combine that with the emotional experience of going through some rough times and coming out the other side to see some New Horizons – overall It’s been a bit of a marathon!”

The Nomadic is the best of Aussie rock talent, with Miles Thomas (Lior, Ronan Keating, Montaigne)on drums, Oliver Thorpe (The Whitlams, Matt Corby, Meg Mac) on guitar, and Brendan Clark (Meg Mac, Montaigne, Jack River) on bass. Dan Frizza as producer lends the kind of magic touch that has seen him enrich the work of the likes of Tones & I, King Princess, and Gurrumul.

Australian guitarist and singer/songwriter Robert Gaylard brings a unique perspective and vision when it comes to creating music. His inspiration and passion for starting The Nomadic began early on as a child after traveling to many countries like Myanmar (formerly Burma), Singapore and the Solomon Islands. His “nomadic” lifestyle continued on into his adulthood when he began to work for the United Nations in various countries such as: Kenya, Somalia, the Sudan, Afghanistan, Indonesia, Israel and Palestine. His travels eventually brought him to New York in September of 2012 and motivated him to pursue his songwriting by establishing an indie rock band.

Influenced by artists like Oasis, Radiohead, The Verve, Bruce Springsteen, Phosphorescent, The War on Drugs, Arizona and The 1975, The Nomadic produces a sound genre like no other as alternative rock meets blues with hints of Americana and pop.

Having been originally influenced by numerous cultures and ways of life, The Nomadic promotes and advocates for issues of social action and innovation, human rights, support for minorities, as well as doing the next right thing, including the idea that it is never too late, including for people to follow their dreams and passions.

The Nomadic Release New Single “All Changed" + Official Music Video

Following on from the release of first single “Treading Water” from the upcoming New Horizons album, The Nomadic releases new single “All Changed”.

Singer Songwriter Rob Gaylard relocated home to Sydney Australia in February 2022 after 5 years as a regular feature of the New York City indie rock scene. He recorded New Horizons with Dan Frizza in Sydney at Forbes Studios. The Nomadicis the best of Aussie rock talent, with Miles Thomas (Lior, Ronan Keating, Montaigne) on drums, Oliver Thorpe (The Whitlams, Matt Corby, Meg Mac) on guitar, and Brendan Clark (Meg Mac, Montaigne, Jack River) on bass. Dan Frizza as producer lends the kind of magic touch that has seen him enrich the work of the likes of Tones & I, King Princess, and Gurrumul.

"All Changed" is a melancholic rock ballad which explores the themes of big life changes growing up, forming close relationships, breaking up, changing jobs/ careers, changing mindset, staying resilient and growing and developing through pain and heartache. The song builds up from a melodic verse and bridge, into the crescendo of an uplifting and rocky chorus “we’re all changed… scars are open… wounds are showing in the light.” As the song progresses, the listener has the sensation of being trapped underwater with the ocean seeping into ones’ body (a sensation enhanced by the gentle but urgent vocal tones of “I can feel it seeping through my brain”).

Singer songwriter Rob Gaylard notes: “'All Changed' is one of the most personal Nomadic songs. Throughout my Nomadic life I have made friends all over the world, and what has struck me is how there is so much more that unites us than divides us. Our hopes, ambitions, dreams and passions, and our struggles- core beliefs, questions of self-worth and self-belief, imposter syndrome, and mental health struggles of anxiety, depression, addiction and multi generational trauma. As we grow and evolve, we are inevitably 'all changed' by the struggles, challenges and opportunities that life presents. The song is therefore a tribute to everyone who goes through life’s hardships and struggles, and comes out the other side, resiliently endeavouring to show up each day as their best self!"

The music video, released today on YouTube, explores the themes of love, loss, friendship,
forgiveness, addiction, and recovery.

The Nomadic Release New Single “Treading Water" + Official Music Video

Following the successful release of first album My Mind is Racing in January 2022, The Nomadichas released its first single “Treading Water” from the upcoming album New Horizons.

Singer Songwriter Rob Gaylard relocated home to Sydney Australia in February 2022 after 5 years as a regular feature of the New York City indie rock scene. He recorded New Horizons with Dan Frizza in Sydney at Forbes Studios. The Nomadic is the best of Aussie rock talent, with Miles Thomas (Lior, Ronan Keating, Montaigne) on drums, Oliver Thorpe (The Whitlams, Matt Corby, Meg Mac) on guitar, and Brendan Clark (Meg Mac, Montaigne, Jack River) on bass. Dan Frizza as producer lends the kind of magic touch that has seen him enrich the work of the likes of Tones & I, King Princess, and Gurrumul.

"Treading Water" is a languid, loping Americana alt rock tune very much in the style of the War on Drugs. The song builds up from a simple acoustic guitar progression and a subtle string arrangement, and then quickly builds momentum with an urgent guitar riff and atmospheric overlays/ overdubs.

As the song progresses, the listener has the sensation of being trapped underwater with the ocean seeping into ones’ body (a sensation enhanced by the gentle but urgent vocal tones of “I can feel it seeping through my brain”).

"Treading Water" is a song of narrative and storytelling and explores the themes of being ‘stuck’ (“pressure’s building to a crescendo. I can feel myself going insane”). The chorus encapsulates the tension at the heart of the song “spend a lifetime treading water... trying to gently float to shore. do what you gotta. Do what you outta”.

The music video, released today on YouTube, contrasts the entrapment of an office type/ corporate environment, with the freedom of the ocean, where the protagonist escapes, whilst haunted by flashbacks to a former life.

The Nomadic Release Official Music Video for Single “GRAND MISTAKES"

“Grand Mistakes is, along with 'Under a Georgia Sky,' one of the first songs I wrote on piano,” says singer-songwriter Rob. “I am excited to see what Nomadic fans think of it! It is probably a little different to the singles we have put out so far. And I hope it moves and inspires people in different ways. It is really a song that captures the essence of the fact that we learn and grow from our greatest mistakes. And also, if we choose to, we can stop family trauma and repeat mistakes from continuing in a vicious cycle."

He adds, "This is a song that addresses the theme of conflict, reconciliation and learning from mistakes. for most of my professional life, I have worked in situations of conflict, including Somalia, Sudan, Afghanistan, Indonesia, and Israel and Palestine. I have often paused to reflect on the damage such conflict does, not only on those who directly participate, but the trauma that gets passed on, to families from generation to generation. That is, more or less, the theme of Grand Mistakes!"

"Under a Georgia Sky is a song that pays tribute to the various amazing people we meet in our lives, who come into our orbits to teach us things about ourselves and help us grow. It is a song that tries to capture and evoke the reminiscence and nostalgia of a beautiful relationship and/ or friendship, that may not work out at the time, for various reasons, but with the passing of time can be rekindled and rebuilt Under a Georgia Sky" says lead singer-songwriter Rob Gaylard.

"Jeannie was my grandmother, she was the youngest daughter in her family in Wagga Wagga, country Australia, growing up in the early 20th century! Australia was a very different country then, still growing and developing, and finding its feet as a nation. Conditions were not easy and everyone in the family had to contribute to the family. Jeannie was a very strong and stoic woman who served in the Medical Women’s Service in the Pacific during the Second World War. For 4 years she was apart from her fiancé Guy, who during that time was a POW. So she had no idea as to his whereabouts and how he was doing. I think a lot about their strength and example today, and how resilient and strong they were" says Rob Gaylard.

He continues, "She was a wonderful nurse, and a loving and caring grandmother, a friend who supported the community and family through good times and bad. She was always there with a kind and wise word, and sometimes an extraordinary sense of the future. She taught us to appreciate the beauty in nature, a starry sky or a robin in the garden and was always encouraging and inspiring. She loved music and was a fan of Elvis, Pavarotti, The Beatles and The Nomadic!!"

"Walk the Streets was one of the first songs I ever wrote and is one of my favorites! It's about reconciliation with a long lost friend or lover, about coming back together, even as friends, after a period of emotional turbulence. Inspired by a period of separation from a lover, the sentiment behind the song is "whatever you go through, whatever happens to us, I will always be there for you, will always have the time to set aside my life plans for a day, to walk the streets with you, in one of the great cities of the world. Even when you say you don't need me!!: "through winter's days, and summers rays, through daybreak's dawn, through winter's yawn..and you know.. that I will walk the streets with you." Originally written as a sad, meloncholic ballad, here we have musically given it an up tempo, alt country vibe, to contrast the sad sentiment with the upbeat character of the musical arrangement. I hope our fans will dig it!" says Rob.

"Manhattan View" is the 4th single released by the Nomadic, following on from "Drifting", "Waiting" and "Beyond Blue". Singer-songwriter Rob Gaylard describes the song as "a tribute to this amazing city of New York, which has become a second home to me and welcomes people from all around the world to come and pursue their creative dreams! We wanted to capture some of the every day street scenes and views, and also the view from Long Island City, where I live and wrote so many of my songs, including Manhattan View. It's just such an inspiring view to be looking out at the greatest city in the world! It's meant as a tribute to a long long friend, and/ or lover, and equally to the millions of unseen heroes who keep the city going- essential workers, firefighters, hospital workers, taxi drivers, waiters etc. I see you, looking out on a clear Manhattan View."

Having been originally influenced by numerous cultures and ways of life, The Nomadic promotes and advocates for issues of social action and innovation, human rights, support for minorities, as well as doing the next right thing, including the idea that it is never too late, including for people to follow their dreams and passions.

In the year 2019, Rob took a one year leave of absence from the UN to follow his musical passion and focus specifically on songwriting and live performance. The Nomadic released its debut single “Drifting” on the 2nd of September in 2019, and is set to release a series of songs including: “Waiting,” “Manhattan View,” “Walk the Streets,” “Beyond Blue,” “Grand Mistakes”and “Under a Georgia Sky.” Influenced by artists like OasisRadioheadThe VerveBruce SpringsteenPhosphorescentThe War on DrugsArizona and the 1975The Nomadicproduces a sound genre like no other as alternative rock meets blues with hints of Americana and pop.

"Beyond Blue" is about being there for someone- a friend, a lover, a family member, going through a tough time mentally, be it sadness, isolation, depression, PTSD; it is about letting them know that 'this too shall pass' and there is always a space to talk, and that someone has been through what you are going through now, that there is 'nothing new under the sun'. That with the help of friends and family, the moment will surely pass, and you will be taken "Beyond Blue." We hope fans of The Nomadic will love the song!" says Rob.

The single “Waiting,” is about the concept of waiting around for people or something in general at airports, rail stations, ports, cafes, restaurants, and bars. Human beings always seem to be biding time for someone in one way or another, or waiting for their true potential and selves to be realized. Whether that hanging around involves waiting for someone to arrive at a destination or simply to make a decision about a situation. While we spend most of our time waiting on things to happen we are also discovering who our true selves are and what our actual potential is as well as how to achieve it. "Waiting" is a tribute to the magic of New York and it's “LIC port,” “Prospect Park,” “Grand Central Clock and Information Booth” and “rail tracks with a New York view.”

Having been originally influenced by numerous cultures and ways of life, The Nomadic promotes and advocates for issues of social action and innovation, human rights, support for minorities, as well as doing the next right thing, including the idea that it is never too late, including for people to follow their dreams and passions.
