Impureza Honor Fallen Warriors with Brutal Flamenco

IMPUREZA are not stopping their Hispanic metal conquest anytime soon. Today, the band are releasing “La Orden del Yelmo Negro” as the second single off their upcoming Reconquista-themed third album Alcázares.

With “La Orden del Yelmo Negro”, Impureza pay homage to a sacred brotherhood of warrior monks with their signature offering of brutal flamenco death metal. Steeped in mysticism, sacrifice and unwavering devotion, the song crusades across the desert in search of the Holy Land during a time of war that spanned more than seven centuries of Iberian history.

Watch the lyric video for “La Orden del Yelmo Negro” below:

Alcázares comes out July 11, 2025.

Amidst the desert heat of “La Orden del Yelmo Negro”, Impureza ignite in a blaze of riffs, flamenco flourishes and blast-beat fury. Orchestral arrangements, fretless bass and guttural vocals bring to life a vision both ancient and transcendent. Like all of Alcázares, the song’s lyrics are entirely in Spanish, invoking a vivid world where myth and martyrdom intertwine.

IMPUREZA is a Spanish metal band formed in 2004 by guitarist Lionel Cano Muñoz from Orléans. Their music is distinguished by a unique fusion of extreme metal and Spanish sounds inspired by Andalusian culture and flamenco, creating an atypical style known as Hispanic Metal. Impureza remains an innovative project in the international metal scene, making it a pioneer of the genre.

The entire concept of the band revolves around the voluptuousness of Latin atmospheres, the ferocity of metal, and Spanish culture and history, explored through a fictional and esoteric aspect. Their compositions feature both clean and guttural vocals sung in the language of Cervantes, flamenco guitar, acoustic fretless bass, extreme metal, and orchestral arrangements that evoke the colors of Spain. The very essence of their music lies in the duality between two seemingly opposed musical genres, which, through clever composition, give birth to a new and avant-garde style. Their fiery music is literally the union of traditional Hispanic folklore and extreme metal. These metal warriors brandish their Iberian sounds as weapons with pride. This ingenious alliance is matched only by the singular and unprecedented creative originality of its founder Lionel Cano Muñoz and his compañero Esteban Martín, both of Spanish nationality. Impureza’s conquistadors draw inspiration from their strong identity, which defines the band's very essence. Impureza's members are also influenced by many Spanish artists such as flamenco guitarist Paco de Lucía and gypsy singer Camarón de la Isla, as well as bands like Behemoth, Morbid Angel, Krisiun, and Fleshgod Apocalypse, among others.

Let the conquistadors of Impureza lead you into their realm and immerse you in Spanish culture with a groundbreaking musical concept — the one and only fierce guardians of Hispanic Metal!

…AND OCEANS Premiere 'The Regeneration Itinerary'

Season of Mist is proud to announce the release of the expansive seventh album from …and Oceans. While they’ve always ebbed and flowed between different extremes, The Regeneration Itinerarysurges onto the scene as the symphonic black metal band’s most expansive experiment yet. Both darkly cinematic and shockingly cerebral, the album is a lesson in contrasts - between chaos and order, dissolution and regeneration.

The Regeneration Itinerary come out  Friday, May 23 on Season of Mist, but you can hear all 10 unpredictable songs today by listening to the full album stream below.

Thirty years into their ebullient career, …and Oceans have now assembled a body of work that absorbs the band’s entire lineage. The Regeneration Itinerary synthesizes the Finnish band’s disparate identities into a two-sided whole. From the trance-inducing intensity of opener and lead single “Inertiae” and maze-like riffs of “Prophetical Mercury Implement” to the sharper death metal edge of “Förnyelse i Tre Akter”, the album is a dance with duality: body and spirit, destruction and rebirth, copper and mercury.

Vocalist Mathias Lillmåns draws inspiration from alchemical symbolism and the interplay between light and shadow. Guitarists Timo Kontio and Teemu Saari, bassist Pyry Hanski, keyboardist Antti Simonen, and drummer Kauko Kuusisalo flesh out his visions with layered textures and a frenetic precision that’s anchored by both the visceral production of Juho Räihä and the finishing touch of Tore Stjerna’s mix and master at Necromorbus Studio.

Rebirth is never static. This itinerary is ever-evolving.

“The Regeneration Itinerary explores the interplay between darkness and light, chaos and order, spiritual and material realms, with each song embodying an experience for the mind and body, navigating a passage to the present moment,” explains Lillmåns.

“The album works like a guide,” he continues. “Teaching us that not everything can be defined as simply being ‘good’ or ‘bad’, ‘light’ or ‘dark’, ‘copper’ or mercury’, underscoring the perpetual dance of dualities in the human experience.”

Thy Catafalque Release Live Video Ahead of Hellfest

Though never intended to leave the studio, Thy Catafalque has grown into a soaring - and roaring - live act. Tamás Kátai and his ever-expanding cast of collaborators are performing at Hellfest, Rockstadt Extreme, Alcatraz and other European festivals this summer before embarking on their first-ever tour of Latin America.

"This is a massive step-up for Thy Catafalque", Kátai says. "We are very excited to play for our fans in places where we've never gone before".

As they prepare to light up the world stage, today, Thy Catafalque are releasing a live video from last year's hometown performance of the heaviest song off their dreamy twelfth album.

Watch Thy Catafalque perform "Vasgyár" live at Dürer Kert - Below:

XII: A gyönyörű álmok ezután jönnek (The Beautiful Dreams Are Yet to Come) is out now on Season of Mist.

As the main conductor behind Thy Catafalque, Tamás Kátai has journeyed far beyond his humble beginnings during the late '90s. But "Vasgyár" ties to his past in more ways than one. Not only does the song gets its name from the rusted-out ironworks that once fueled the Hungarian economy. Its steaming blast beats and blackened chug call back to the ashen pyres that forged Thy Catafalque's initial offerings.

And yet - Thy Catafalque's twelfth album only goes to show how far this one-time studio project has come. Joined by the fearsome growls of Zoltán Kónya, along with many other familiar faces from across his avant-garde discography, last year, Kátai performed "Vasgyár" for a sold-out crowd at Dürer Kert, which remains one of Hungary's most influential underground venues. As spacey synth and a stirring violin solo weave as one with the track's heavy bass line, it's clear to everyone watching that Thy Catafalque are still progressing to new heights.

The video for "Vasgyár"was recorded on November 23, 2024 at Dürer Kert, Budapest, Hungary.

New fans and long-time appreciators can now rediscover just how much Thy Catafalque has grown.

This month, Season of Mist is repressing Rengeteg. Thy Catafalque's fifth album is the first to fully expand far beyond black metal with proggy keyboard, clean vocals and death metal riffing.

The fourth repressing includes four bonus tracks and is available on black and forest green vinyl.

Season of Mist will reissue Rengeteg on May 30, 2025.

Oak, Ash & Thorn Announce U.S. Tour

While they're just beginning to kindle the fires for their first offering since signing with Season of Mist, Oak, Ash & Thorn continue to fan the flames from their latest album. Following a mead-crushing performance at Decibel Metal & Beer Fest Denver and hammer-thrusting support dates with inspirations Týr, now, freshly armed as a five-piece, the blackened pagan power metal band are announcing their next tour.

This August, Oak, Ash & Thorn will play six special shows across the Midwest and Southwest. This ship sets sail with a lights-out set in front of their home crowd at Mile High Power Fest and ends with a triumphant return to the nearby kingdom of Colorado Springs. Along the way, the band will dock in Lawrence, Dallas, Austin and Albuquerque for the very first time. Not only is this also their first tour since adding newly knighted axeman Kadin Wisniewski. Along with Our Grief Is Thus, they'll be polishing off an old battle hymn and unsheathing brand new magical odes off their yet-to-be-announced third album.

"Peasants of the Midwest and the Southwest, give heed!" declares Oak, Ash & Thorn. "We, the barbarian war horde of clan Oak, Ash & Thorn, throb with anticipation to man the OATBoat in summer's dying days and set sail across the open...uh...plains? - for lands hitherto unconquered! Lawrence, Austin, Dallas, Albuquerque: lock up your livestock, your gold, your mead and your prettiest among you, for we shall depart from the port of Denver for your shores for the first time ever with fists a-pumping, axes a-swinging! Cower before us as we pillage and plunder amidst rousing choruses of our most stirring battle hymns, including some newly composed, freshly imbued with runic magic that the gods would grant us fortune time and again. Only after quenching our thirst for conquest shall we return to our kingdom in the mountains, our vessel piled high with riches and the spoils of victory, and there shall we celebrate our triumph with a feast in the halls of the great stronghold of Colorado Springs. Hone then your weapons, study your scrolls and join us in bloody revelry!"

Kadin Wisniewski - Rhythm Guitar
Erik Hoffman - Bass
Cierra White - Drums

Origin: Denver, CO
Genre: Blackened Pagan Power Metal

While only loosely constructed as a concept album, with Our Grief is Thus, Oak, Ash & Thorn have built a monumental record. Every song deals with grief in some fashion. "Dying Culture" is about the decay of tradition by way of urbanization and generational decline. "Light My Pyre" tackles betrayal and the dissolution of friendship. "Auras" deals with the erosion (and rejuvenation) of honor and identity in the face of withering familial ties.

Oak, Ash & Thorn recorded their latest album in Ft. Collins, Colorado, at the Blasting Room, which was founded by Black Flag and Descendents drummer Bill Stevenson. Our Grief is Thus marks the first time in the band's history that they have walked out of a studio with an album fully representing their vision.

Having now signed to Season of Mist, they're ready to take their spirited brand of blackened pagan power metal to even greater heights.

Unverkalt Sign with Season of Mist

Season of Mist is pleased to welcome Unverkalt.

Formed in 2017, Unverkalt emerged from a desire to give voice to grief, memory and the visceral undercurrents of the human condition. While originally founded in Athens, the band are now based in Berlin, where they forge avant-garde post-metal from emotionally immersive compositions, cinematic textures and a fearless commitment to sonic experimentation.

The band’s debut album, L’Origine du Monde, emerged rooted in emotional unrest and tense atmospherics while delving deep into loss and catharsis beneath shades of post-metal and slow-burning doom. Their follow-up, A Lump of Death: A Chaos of Dead Lovers, pushed deeper into obsession and decay, blending gothic unease with cinematic grandeur and raw urgency. Together, the band’s first two albums trace their evolution from mournful elegance to something more immediate and consuming. It’s a path worth retracing before the next part of their journey unfolds, giving rise to the most visceral and unrelenting sound Unverkalt have ever conjured.

“Big News, Big Moves!” says Unverkalt. “We are excited to announce that Unverkalt have officially joined the Season of Mist family.

“We’ve found a home with a label that doesn’t just handle the heavy, the weird and the loud - it amplifies it. We're very stoked about working with a team that gets what we’re about and isn’t afraid of a little sonic destruction.

”Unverkalt always stood for real, raw, untamed art and never gave a damn about fitting into scenes or trends. We just wanted to create something honest - loud, heavy, broken and alive. And now we’ve found a place that welcomes that chaos with open arms.

”The next chapter of Unverkalt starts here. Expect more music, more shows and more beautifully controlled chaos. Stay tuned and brace yourselves - this ride's only getting louder.”

Lineup:

Dimitra Kalavrezou - Vocals

Themis Ioannou - Guitars, Keys

Eli Mavrychev - Guitars, Vocals

Joscha Hoyer - Bass

Christian Eggers - Drums

Emerging from Athens in 2017, UNVERKALT was born out of an instinctive urge to give form to grief, memory and emotional unrest.

Guitarist and composer Themis, along with vocalist Dimitra, set out to create something unfiltered, heavy, and honest — an intention that would later crystallize in their 2020 debut album L’Origine du Monde. With this release, Unverkalt established a presence within the European post-metal underground.

With raw, multifaceted vocals woven into post-metal and avant-garde textures, Unverkalt began to shape a sound that is slow-burning and emotionally charged. Influenced by European cinema, visual arts and the complexity of human experience, their music unfolds as an immersive narrative, balancing heaviness and delicacy, dissonance and beauty.

Their 2023 follow-up, A Lump of Death: A Chaos of Dead Lovers, garnered widespread critical acclaim, including a 9/10 review from Metal Hammer Greece, and marked a clear turning point in both tone and direction. Inspired by the cult atmosphere and violent crimes of the 1970s, the album explored the space between obsession and romantic decay. The sound became heavier, more immediate, with the band’s alternative influences now pushed to the surface with greater clarity and force.

Now rooted in Berlin, the current incarnation of Unverkalt -  Dimitra (vocals), Themis (guitars), Christian (drums), Eli (vocals/guitars), and Joscha (bass) converge to produce their most primal and emotionally charged creation to date.

What comes next is not a continuation, but a descent. Unverkalt’s cinematic and avant-garde impulses are now laced with shadowed intensity. Blackened textures swirl beneath the surface, rupturing into moments of raw force. Their sound is evolving into something darker, more primal, and wholly untethered — an experience that promises to be their most visceral and immersive yet.

BASK Cover The Brian Jonestown Massacre

After a smoking hot tour with their labelmates and fellow North Carolinians Weedeater, Bask are now ready to turn over a different kind of leaf. The Asheville natives will release their fourth album later this year. But first, the band are looking back at one of their influences.

"We've always been inspired by acts like The Brian Jonestown Massacre", says guitarist and vocalist Zeb Wright. "They write songs that feel outside of time and place".

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the documentary that thrust The Brian Jonestown Massacre into the spotlight, today, Bask are releasing a cover of "Anemone". The road to get to this point has been much smoother than it was for the shaggy San Franciscan collective, but the heavy dose of Americana that the band bring to this cult classic shows how far they've come.

Listen to Bask's heavy and heady cover of "Anemone" below:

Stream
https://bask.fanlink.tv/Anemone

Even though they're separated across coastlines and nearly three decades, Bask and The Brian Jonestown Massacre were in a similar headspace heading into their fourth albums. While partially named after the Rolling Stones' guitarist, BJM shifted from spaced-out shoegaze to flower-powered '60s psychedelia on 1996's Their Satanic Majesties' Second Request. Bask's upcoming full-length also ventures into headier pastures, though their cover of that album's sleeper hit "Anemone" is plucked straight from the band's Appalachian roots.

"You should be picking me up / Instead you're dragging me down", Wright repeats in a dazed drawl while twanging on his banjo.

Bask haven't endured nearly the same amount of lineup turnover as their kindred spirits in The Brian Jonestown Massacre. On "Anemone", Drummer Scott Middleton and bassist Jesse Van Note hold down a bottomless groove that's as sludgy and free-flowing as a riverbed. But this cover is the first release since Jed Willis joined as the band's official fifth member. As his pedal steel ripples against Ray Worth's colorfully swirling leads, the band take cosmic country into a whole new dimension.

"'Anemone' is hypnotic in its repetition and perfectly expresses the combination of emotional distress and unbothered cool that to us feels so integral to BJM's sound and songwriting", Bask says. "It's also really fun to play and riff on".

Hailing from Carolina’s storied Blue Ridge Mountains, Bask came together in the fall of 2013. Guitarist Ray Worth, drummer Scott Middleton, bassist Jesse Van Note and guitarist/vocalist Zeb Wright produce sounds that reflect their lush yet rugged Appalachian habitat.

The band's upcoming fourth album is an inter-dimensional Western that digs its heels into their trailblazing Heavy Americana by swirling between raw, metallic energy and country twang.

Scott Middleton – Drums

Gaahls WYRD Mystify with New Single "And the Now"

With "And the Now", Norwegian Grammy winners Gaahls Wyrd are revealing the beating heart of their upcoming second album. The third single spun from Braiding the Stories twist and turns black metal into something darker and dreamier.

Listen to And the Now below.

Braiding the Stories is out June 6th, 2025 on Season of Mist.

Pre-order & Pre-save

https://orcd.co/gaahlswyrdbraidinggthestories

"And the Now" captures the essence of Gaahls Wyrd's latest musical evolution. The third single off Braiding the Stories draws us deeper into the mercurial frontman's self-appointed "White Lodge", which floats somewhere between dreams and the subconscious.

Anchored by Kristian "Gaahl" Espedal's dynamic vocals and Ole "Lust Kilman" Walaunet's stunning guitars, "And the Now" channels the energy of ‘80s and ‘90s gothic rock without sacrificing the esoteric intensity that defines Gaahls Wyrd. Recorded at Solslottet Studio in Bergen, Norway, and produced alongside Iver Sandøy (Enslaved, Wardruna), the song reinforces the band's commitment to  experimentation and depth. Once again, they're cinematic, vivid, and audaciously unclassifiable.

The striking cover art by visual artist Øivind Myksvoll (Wardruna, Trelldom) is just as mysterious and arresting as his work for The Humming Mountain. Look closely and you’ll find what appears to be hair (aka the veil) and the cosmos (crystallized wine from Gaahl’s collection). Indeed, the group’s signature horned figure lurks between the layers. For Gaahls WYRD, music, lyrics, concept, and art are synonymous. They’re designed to be experienced in their entirety and in unison. Braiding the Stories isn’t an obvious listen, but it gently (and sometimes maniacally) pulls at the listener. The sensation of the journey from opener “The Dream” to closing epic “Flowing Starlight” is quite unlike anything before. All hail Braiding the Stories!

Mawiza Announce New Album ÜL

Like a smoke signal, over the past decade, Mawiza have risen as a guiding force for indigenous metal. By incorporating native instruments, shamanic chanting and tribal rhythms into their contemporary influences, the band represent both the ancestral and modern sides of Mapuche culture. Their fresh yet timeless take on groove metal has won  them a Chilean Grammy along with the respect of scene elders like Mercyful Fate, Mastodon, Slipknot and Joe Duplantier from Gojira, who's featured on their upcoming new album.

Today, Mawiza are officially announcing their third full-length ÜL by releasing a stunning video for the album's lead single and opening track. "Wingkawnoam" marches to an industrial beat, but this band of modern-day warriors are guided by the dreams of their indigenous land.

"ÜL means 'chant'", Mawiza says. "The album represents the voice of the land, the origin of feeling, the first call to connect with emotions. It is the part of the spirit that, for a few seconds, becomes one with the wind. It's a force we can hear, resonate, communicate with and return to".

Mawiza would like to thank our Mapuche community Ngillatuwe Maipu for welcoming them during the video shoot for "Wingkawnoam". Their guidance was essential.

The video for "Wingkawnoam" was directed by  Andrés Hetzler (@andreshetzler).

"I have been working with Mawiza for several years," Andrés says. "It's always an honor to continue our collaboration. Their message deserves a strong and powerful visual.

"For this video, the band wanted to bring the history of the Mapuche people to a new audience. It shows how important political decisions were resolved in Mapuche culture through a game of palin.

"I proposed to integrate the band around the bonfire of a ruka, as a symbol for oral storytelling, as this is where Mapuche people gather to remember their history".

Hear Nightfall's New Album A Day Early

Ever since they formed in the early '90s, Nightfall have stood alongside Rotting Christ and Septicflesh as the pioneering trinity of Greek metal. Fearsome frontman Efthimis Karadimas and his band of Athenian rebels are still out for revenge on their new album, but Children of Eve is backed by the biggest hooks in their pantheon-level discography.

"One of the best releases of the year", wrote Metal Temple in a perfect 10/10 review of Children of Eve. "It's sinister, morbid, darkened, aggressive, it's a Nightfall release!"

Children of Eve comes out tomorrow, Friday, May 2, but you can hear all 10 stage-shaking tracks today by listening to the full album stream below.

Like their brothers-in-arms, Nightfall sculpt towering gothic melodies from blackened slabs of death metal. Children of Eve is blessed with the mightiest choruses in the band's formidable history. Their new album was mixed and mastered by Jacob Hansen, who's helped Volbeat, Amaranthe and The Black Dahlia Murder crank their metallic fury to arena levels.  Lead single “I Hate” seethes with blast beats from ex-Septicflesh drummer Fotis Benardo that flow with all the fire and fury of the River Styx.

During Nightfall's most recent hiatus, Efthimis was diagnosed with depression. Now, he wears a black mask to cover half of his face, symbolizing what it's like to live under the invisible veil of mental illness. "When you have demons in your mind, you're not always an ideal companion", he admits. "That stigma can lead to isolation".

Now, Nightfall are encouraging fellow metalheads to speak up. The band have launched a new initiative called Metal Music Against Depression (MMaD), which is supported by European Alliance Against Depression in Germany. "We can talk about this. We can sing about it. We can build a community that's based on understanding", Efthimis says.

With Children of Eve, Nightfall return from the shadows to unite blackened souls everywhere with their darkest and most epic creation yet.

Changeling Premieres Debut Album

Fretless guitar virtuoso Tom “Fountainhead” Geldschläger is known for his work in Obscura’s Akróasis era, his live work with Defeated Sanity, Belphegor, Nader Sadek and many others. Now, he's continuing to bend progressive death metal under his blistering fretwork as Changeling. His latest brainchild is both an homage to the genre's biggest innovators and an expansive vision of its future.

Changeling Out Now but you can hear all 10 eye-opening songs by listening to the full album stream below.

Pre-order & Pre-save

https://orcd.co/changelingchangeling

Changeling fuses the heaviness of technical death metal with classical, jazz and world music. Along with plenty of Tom's signature mind-bending fretless guitar solos, the album features fretless bass, synths, oud, microtonal arrangements, a choir and more than 50 guest musicians, including current and former members of Fear Factory, Alkaloid, Virvum, Subway to Sally, Trans-siberian Orchestra, King Diamond, Ne Obliviscaris and Cynic.

Lead single "Abyss" carves colossal riffs from quarter-tone modulations. The whirling arpeggios of "Falling in Circles" call back to Tom's performance on "Akróasis" while the title track ventures into oriental percussion and microtonal synths. Together, the songs on Changelingunfold like a psychedelic experience, moving from disorientation to dissolution and finally, realization.

Tom composed Changeling with spatial audio specifically in mind. The Dolby Atmos version of the album hits streaming services May 23.

Changeling blends progressive metal, death metal, jazz-fusion, world music and complex orchestration into an hour-long submersion into the subconscious. Players from around the world can follow Tom Fountainhead's lead with a new series of Changeling transcription books. Tom wrote the approx. 500 page guitar transcription book himself, while core bandmate Arran McSporran transcribed the 75 page edition for bass.

Both the guitar and bass transcription books will come out alongside the album on April 25th. The massive complete transcription book - which includes guitar, bass, drums (transcribed by Fenix Gayed), orchestral arrangements, vocals, lyrics and detailed liner notes from Tom - will come out on May 23rd, the same day as the Dolby Atmos mix of Changeling.

Each transcription book will be available both as a physical book and digitally through Guitar Pro or as a PDF. All physical copies will be personally signed and include a free download of the digital version.

The album, sharing its name with the project, blends progressive metal, death metal, jazz/fusion, and world music, enriched with complex orchestrations by a 50-piece ensemble of guest musicians. It includes the eagerly anticipated “Part 2” to his renowned composition “Weltseele,” an orchestral metal epic from Obscura’s billboard-chart-entering “Akroasis” album, which broadly introduced Fountainhead to the metal community in 2016.

…And Oceans Are Born Again on “Förnyelse i Tre Akter”

While they've always ebbed and flowed between different extremes over the course of the past 30 years, on their upcoming seventh album, ...and Oceans are surging onto the scene with their most expansive experiment in symphonic black metal. The Regeneration Itinerary melds black and death metal with symphonic, industrial and electronic elements, plus inspiration from Paulo Coelho's best-selling novel The Alchemist.

Blending the band’s avant-garde legacy with their raw intensity, the third single off their upcoming new album is inspired by theatrical transformation and existential revelation. “Förnyelse i Tre Akter” (“Renewal in Three Acts”) tells the tale of a reclusive performer who glimpses a new world beyond the stage—a powerful metaphor for shifting perspectives and inner awakening. As described by vocalist and lyricist Mathias Lillmåns, the song is “about seeing things in a different light, how to rearrange your perspective in three acts.”

The performance video for “Förnyelse i Tre Akter” will premiere on Black Metal Promotion's YouTube channel and can be seen below:

The Regeneration Itinerary comes out May 23rd on Season of Mist.

“Förnyelse i Tre Akter” echoes the spirit of …and Oceans' early era while also injecting a sharper death metal edge, creating a sound that is both nostalgic and forward-reaching. The song echoes the broader themes of duality and personal regeneration found throughout The Regeneration Itinerary.

"This is more in the vein of old 90’s …and Oceans", says guitarist Timo Kontio, "but this time I did some different riffing. Some say it's more in the death metal style, which might be true."

The performance video for “Förnyelse i Tre Akter” was filmed and edited by Aarni Visuals

The Lion's Daughter Announce Farewell Show

Whether it was a Dog Shaped Man, the Midnight Animal or a hospital run by werewolves, not even the most nightmarish creatures could tame The Lion's Daughter. What began in the mid-2010s as a horror-stricken, blackened and sludgy trio rabidly evolved into a frightening, futuristic, synth-metal foursome.

Now, after two decades and five skin-tillating albums, The Lion's Daughter are going out on their own terms.

"Bands are not supposed to last forever", says guitarist, synth player and vocalist Rick Giordano. "It's been 18 goddamn years. We've done every single thing we ever set out to do. Each of us will continue to play music (and more than likely with each other), but this thing called The Lion's Daughter...well, we did that already.

"Some bands don't know when to quit, and we don't want to be one of those bands", Rick continues. "Instead of trudging along for another X amount of years, we'd rather go out with a bang and play one last show with our friends! And we're going to donate every dime from that show to Stray Rescue. Hating people and loving dogs has always kinda been our thing".

The Lion's Daughter will play their final show on June 21 in the band's hometown of St. Louis, Missouri at Off Broadway. They'll be joined by local doomsayers Fister, the recently reunited Sine Nomine, mighty progressive sludgers Path of Might, and freshly blackened death metal band Furnace Floor. All proceeds from the show will benefit Stray Rescue of St. Louis.

"This isn't a sad thing", Rick emphasizes. "Bands SHOULD end, and we're raising money for pups".

Nightfall Lead Beastly Anthem on New Single "Seeking Revenge"

Since rising up from Athens' underground in 1991, Nightfall have stood as pillars for Greek metal alongside current and former Season of Mist label mates Rotting Christ and Septicflesh.

Like their brothers-in-arms, captain Efthimis Karadimas and his Athenian rebels sculpt towering gothic melodies from fiery blackened death metal. Their monumental eleventh full-length is bolstered by a powerful message and the mightiest production in the band's pantheon-level discography. The latest single from Children of Eve charges into the heat of battle with the same vengeance that fueled their rise, but "Seeking Revenge" is spearheaded by the biggest hell-raising chorus on an album full of crowd-pleasers.

"We wrote this song in retaliation for the vengeful teachings that the catechism practices on us", Efthimis says. "It seeks revenge for the expelled ones, the traders of anathema, who have the outlandish desire to disobey Christian Svengali".

Cryptopsy Announce New Album 'An Insatiable Violence'

A person spends all day building a machine, only for it to torture them at night. As if this thought wasn't malicious enough, they enjoy it. In fact, they enjoy being tortured so much that, come morning, they wake up rejuvenated, eager to tweak their creation until it runs perfectly in their mind.

This is the waking nightmare that inspired the upcoming ninth full-length album from Cryptopsy. "The concept for our new album came to me in a dream. When I woke up, I immediately wrote the title down on my phone", vocalist Matt McGachy says before adding, "Because, you know, we all have to have our phones with us all the time".

While an eerie mirror image of society's latest brain rotting obsession, An Insatiable Violence is influenced by the many mutations that have come to define Cryptopsy's Hall of Fame discography. On their new album, the JUNO Award winners continue to push death metal to even more blasphemous extremes. While near bursting with the band's brutal technique, lead single "Until There's Nothing Left" stakes its claim as their biggest, most vile earworm.

Watch the nightmarish video for "Until There's Nothing Left" below.

Countdown to An Insatiable Violence
https://open.spotify.com/prerelease/68bFcUq3E7rilegbUCwexu?si=56ImYUobTLe2WyguJnMEFQ

"Until There's Nothing Left" holds nothing back. Just as quickly as the video's star takes the band's trusted bait, Cryptopsy lock him inside their freshly fleshed-out house of horror.

"Your greed for pleasure is too vast", McGachy utters with bottomless disdain thanks to his newly deepened death growls. Christian Donaldson reels through brutal chugs while Oli Pinard snaps off not one but two gruesome bass-slapping solos. After 30+ years behind Cryptopsy's drum throne, Flo Mounier continues to keep the band on the tips of their horned toes. With devilish ease, he slits between blinding fills, relentless double bass and punishingly precise blast beats without ever leaving the pocket.

"Since our last album, I've developed new techniques that make it easier for us to go even faster", says Mounier, who literally wrote the book on extreme metal drumming. "An Insatiable Violence is a nice melting pot of Cryptopsy's old and new eras".

The first taste of their upcoming album does smack you around before springing into a commanding groove. But even though the band's last album won the JUNO Award for Metal / Hard Music Album just a little more than a year ago, Cryptopsy weren't content with reaping their rewards. Writing for An Insatiable Violence began in earnest last spring, while they were touring North America with Death to All. Working from the road was new for them. And while not without bumps, playing 140 shows over the past 15 months gave them a clear sense of direction once the time came to hit Donaldson's studio.

"As Gomorrah Burns was a stepping stone for our new album", McGachy says. "We took what we enjoyed about the last album and focused on expanding it for a live setting. We wanted this album to be more groovy so that people can really latch onto these songs when we play them live".

With its headbanger of a chorus, "Until There's Nothing Left" will no doubt fill the pit when Cryptopsy tours Europe next month with Decapitated. The band's signature fishhook riff wriggles deep into the grooves in your brain beneath bat-like shrieks. "And as you now can clearly see / You're totally mine". Of course, the song wouldn't represent peak Cryptopsy if it wasn't filled with a more insidious message. Its sinister story of an online predator feeds into the album's larger cautionary tale.

"An Insatiable Violence reflects our toxic relationship with social media", explains McGachy, who's been feeling the effects since starting his podcast Vox & Hops. "I'm trying to break the cycle, but on those days where I'm just doom scrolling, I get so depressed. The fallacy of Internet stardom is just a dopamine trap that crushes our spirits".

Cryptopsy know not every brutal technical death metal band is on the upswing nine albums into their career. The cover art for An Insatiable Violence pays tribute to their late, great vocalist Martin Lacroix.

"Martin did None So Live, but he never really got to do a proper album", the band says. "His art is amazing. The two pieces of his that we used for An Insatiable Violence are incredible. His family was super excited about it, too. We are honored to have him be an even bigger part of Cryptopsy's lore".

The video for "Until There's Nothing Left" was written and directed by Christopher Kells.

Metalheads who are chomping at the bit for An Insatiable Violence can further their appetite by revisiting Cryptopsy's hallowed catalogue. Since signing with Season of Mist in 2024, the band have reissued their 1993 demo Ungentle Exhumation, the widely-worshiped None So Vile, their triumphant self-titled and The Book of Suffering Tome I + II, which is now available for the first time on one combined LP.

Cryptopsy recognize that not every death metal band sticks around long enough to win a Canadian Grammy 30 years into their career. The cover art for An Insatiable Violence was created by the late, great vocalist Martin Lacroix.  "The album artwork has got to be one of the most important things to us!”, the band says. “Martin Lacroix was one of our vocalists, one of our great friends and one of the nicest people that anyone could have the privilege to meet. We really wish he was here with us to share this moment. His perfect smile would say it all! Rest in peace brother".

With Cryptopsy’s latest career renaissance showing no signs of slowing down, the recent accolades are only the beginning. An Insatiable Violence reaches a new peak in a career loaded with them.

Gaahls WYRD Release "Time and Timeless Timeline"

Emerging like a phantom from the depths of an unseen plane, "Time and Timeless Timeline" is Gaahls WYRD at their most lucid and direct—yet no less enigmatic. Clocking in at just over three minutes, the tightly-wound second single from the Norwegian Grammy winners' upcoming second album, Braiding the Stories, defies the sprawling structures often associated with esoteric metal. Instead, it delivers its message with precision, fire and clarity—imbued with a fierce groove, bold '80s-inspired production and an almost ritualistic cadence.

Watch the video for "Time and Timeless Timeline" below.

Braiding the Stories comes out June 6th, 2025 on Season of Mist.

Pre-order & Pre-save

https://orcd.co/gaahlswyrdbraidinggthestories

Driven by Ole “Lust Kilman” Walaunet’s razor-edged riffwork and soaring melodic leads, "Time and Timeless Timeline" explores the dissonance of perception and memory. It’s a meditation on temporal dislocation, how when the time collapses, the subconscious rises to the surface.

Anchored by Gaahl’s commanding vocal performance, "Time and Timeless Timeline" captures the essence of Braiding the Stories. The album goes behind the veil, delving into reams of emotions and emerging into a dream state that lives somewhere between structure and spirit, time and timelessness.

Filmed at the Solslottet Studio in Bergen, Norway, the music video for "Time and Timeless Timeline" offers an intimate look at Gaahls WYRD as they channel the song's metaphysical energy through pure, raw performance.

Mawiza Follow the Moon on New Video

While still ascending on the metal scene, Mawiza are empowered by their indigenous roots.

The Chilean band hail from the ancestral territory of Wallmapu, which belongs to the Mapuche Nation. By proudly embracing ancestral instruments, traditional chanting and the Mapuzungun language, their style of groove metal has brought them international acclaim. They've won a Chilean Grammy and performed alongside Mercyful Fate, Mastodon, Slipknot and Gojira. Having now signed with the French label Season of Mist, this year, Mawiza are releasing their spirited third album, which RollingStone named one of the 15 Latin Albums that they can't wait to hear.

As this band of warriors prepare to set up on new horizons, today, Mawiza are releasing a new video. Though the song reflects how their culture has changed, "Killari" beams with the strength that they draw from their native land.

Watch the music video for "Killari" below.

Mawiza have shared a stage with metal's biggest influences, but the band are guided by the spirit of nature. In English, "Killari" means "Moonlight". Much like its namesake, the song reveals its transformative energy in phases. Double bass scampers under the cover of darkness as a clean, somber guitar melody is plucked like stars from the sky. "Chomü rayen teyfükan  (Destroy the withered flower)", the band howl in unison. "Taiñ mongen ñi afkülekan / Re rükükan mew (End our existence / Out of pure selfishness)".

At home, Mawiza have seen the Mapuche Nation endure troubling times. Trees on their land have been cut down by developers. Many people from the tribe have been forced to move into the city. "My mother taught me to respect all life", says the band's vocalist and rhythm guitarist Awka. Between its scraping dissonant riffs and the flowing proggy grooves of bassist Zewü, "Killari" waxes and wanes between sorrow and anger. But by following the moon, the band find strength in transformation. "Wenu peaymi / Look to the sky!", Awka shouts with both his spear and axe raised as the drums circle into a thunderous breakdown.

"You can feel low in the night", says Awka, who identifies as non-binary. "Our people have often witnessed oppression against those deemed 'deviant', 'nefarious' or 'diabolical' for not fitting into the concept of man and woman. In ancient times, masculinity and femininity were respected and understood as real forces in constant communication, prayer and movement. But as time passed, through way and the loss of the Spanish crown, the image of the Mapuche man became idealized as virile, strong and an overwhelming warrior, while the woman was seen as the source of future heirs.

"If there is one concept that we as young Mapuche embrace, it's total decolonization", he continues. "As wentxu or 'men' of the Mapuche people, we need zomo newen or 'feminine strength' to exist in a permanent state within each of us. We protect our Epu püllü or 'two spirits' with songs like 'Killari'.

"I feel a deep connection to the moon and how it influences all cycles of nature, including the transformation within ourselves", says drummer Txalkan, who wrote the music for "Killari". "The song weaves together rhythms and claves from various Latin American percussion styles. When I play it, I try and reflect that sense of movement and evolution through its variations".

The video for "Killari" also reflects the changing forces within the Mapuche Nation. "In popular culture, Indians are often shown wearing dirty clothes or being covered in mud", the band says. "We wanted to look like kings". To make this fashion statement, they collaborated with three of the most prominent trendsetters in Latin America. Their stylish outfits were designed by Matías Hernán (@matias_hernan), Ceremonia (@ceremonia_) and Labios Enfermos (@labios.enfermos).

Even the filming location for "Killari" was chosen after an artist's own heart. What was once an abandoned underwear factory was converted by Chilean artist Beatrice di Girolamo into a woodworking studio. It's here, in this re-imagined space, that Mawiza uncover a modern piece of Mapuche artwork in the climbing light of Karü's  guitar solo. "Killari" first appeared on the band's previous album Kollong, which in English means 'mask'. While kollongs are traditionally carved from wood, by adding bits of moss and industrial plastic, this new version pieces together all the current aspects of Mapuche culture.

"Naq uwamtuymi ta lüq pelom / Feel the white light descending", Awka chants. As he dons the mask, Mawiza becomes the sworn protectors of this illuminating ceremony.

"Some ancient Mapuche concepts are impossible to translate" Awka says. "It would be easy to say that our society was inclusive with non-binary and gender-fluid people. But it is far more complex. Our words are not static. Our weavings are not tied with blind knots. Our ruke or 'house' are made to be disassembled.

"Our machi have always embodied this from the most visible perspective", he continues. "The body is a vessel for forces. The feminine force of küyen is crucial to our understanding and daily lives as Mapuche. Look to the sky and you can find the strength of your mother".

The video for "Killari" was directed by  Andrés Hetzler (@andreshetzler).

In 2023, Mawiza released the single “Txükur” with the Mapuche rapper MC Millaray and a tremendous and very particular version of Metallica's “Battery”, which they adapted to Mapuzungun.

In August 2023, Mawiza were invited to record a live session by Joe Duplantier, leader of Gojira and owner of Silver Chord Studios in New York. They also visited West West Side Studio, owned by renowned producer Alan Douches and performed an acoustic concert at Selva Gallery in Brooklyn.

At the end of 2024, Mawiza re-released Kollong. This version includes new recordings of vocals done entirely in Mapuzungun and drums re-recorded by Txalkan.

This year, Mawiza will release their third album on Season of Mist.

Dopelord Sign to Season of Mist

Season of Mist is proud to welcome Dopelord!

Since budding out of Poland in 2010, Dopelord have cultivated their own heavily psychedelic strand of stoner metal. While they worship at the altar of the almighty riff, the band's discography is blessed with haunting choruses, catchy trancelike riffs and other signs of the occult.

"You can be assured that everything on Songs for Satan is first-class stoner doom", The Sleeping Shaman exclaimed about their last album.

Dopelord are busy crafting full-length album number 6(66). When they're not lighting up the studio, the band are out rolling the road with their hazy magick ritual. With highly regarded appearances at festivals like Brutal Assault and tours with current and former Season of Mist labelmates Stoned Jesus and Saint Vitus, the smoke from their weed cult stretches over the world of metal like a dank, dark cloud.

Come party with Dopelord as the band celebrates its 15th anniversary next month with a return to London's Desertfest and five shows across their home country. Later this year, they'll join  legendary tokers Orange Goblin for the English heavies final show in Finland.

"We are beyond excited to announce that we are joining Season of Mist!" Dopelord says. "We are honored to be working with a label that has such a rich history and supports so many amazing bands. Get ready for some heavy, psychedelic doom that will take you on a journey deep into your mind. See you on the road!"

Dopelord is a Polish doom metal band formed in 2010 in Lublin. They've released five full-length albums: Magic Rites (2012), Black Arts, Riff Worship & Weed Cult (2014), Children of the Haze (2017), Sign of the Devil (2020) and Songs for Satan (2023). Their music is characterized by a heavy, psychedelic sound with clear stoner metal influences and lyrics that often refer to occultism, drugs and dark fantasy.

The band has gained international recognition for their energetic live shows, catchy riffs and haunting choruses. The band regularly tours in Poland and abroad. They've performed at many prestigious festivals, including Desertfest (London, Berlin and Antwerp), Metal Days Slovenia, Rockstadt Extreme, Brutal Assault, SWR Barroselas Metalfest, Tolminator, Helldorado Eindhoven and Mystic Festival. In 2019, they toured with doom legends Saint Vitus.

Rotting Christ Release New Live Album

ROTTING CHRIST have stood the test of time. Over the past 35 years, Sakis Tolis, his brother Themis and their brothers-in-arms have risen from Greece's blackened catacombs to become one of metal's most reliable forces.

Backed by a legacy that has both defined and defied black metal, last year, the Greek legends carved out a new set of dark, melodic scriptures with fresh rebellion on the unbreakable Pro Xristou

"...this is the most arena-worthy Rotting Christ have been in some time", No Clean Singing wrote about their latest album.

Now, as they continue to tour the world, Rotting Christ are celebrating 35 years of evil existence with a new live album. This two-hour set was recorded at the Lycabettus Hill Theater in the band's hometown of Athens. Like a pantheon, it spans the band's entire career, from early evil classics like "The Sign of Evil Existence" and the gothic one-two punch of "Sorrowful Farewell" and "Among Two Storms" to " "Δαιμόνων Βρώσης (Demonon Vrosis)",  "Κατά τον Δαίμονα Εαυτού", "Like Father, Like Son" and other chiseled monuments from their modern Hellenic period.

Watch Rotting Christ celebrate 35 Years of Evil Existence Live in Lycabettus on Rotting Christ TV.

35 Years of Evil Existence - Live in Lycabettus is out now on Season of Mist.

The formidable bond between brothers Sakis and Themis Tolis is not only felt across their unholy discography but also live and in the flesh. Having played more than a hundred shows all across the world in 2024, Rotting Christ continue to keep the true metal spirit alive time and time again.

Rotting Christ @ Milwaukee Metal Fest
Friday, May 16 - Milwaukee, Wi @ The Rave/Eagles Club [TICKETS]

Pro Xristou (‘Before Christ’ in Greek), serves as a fervent tribute to the last Pagan kings who resisted the onslaught of Christianity, guarding their ancient values and knowledge. In this thematic odyssey, intricately woven through tracks such as ‘The Apostate’ and ‘Ygdrassil’, Rotting Christ delves into the legacies of historical figures such as Flavius Claudius Julianus and Nordic mythological kings, embodying the might of Pagan wisdom in the face of Christian adversity. The album encapsulates the essence of Rotting Christ’s signature style – melodic, yet harsh at times – reinventing themselves yet again, while remaining rooted in their 35-year legacy.

Mawiza Vocalist Speaking at TEDx Pucón

While pushing the boundaries of modern metal, Mawiza are deeply connected to their native roots.

The Chilean band have performed with the underground's biggest and heaviest influences - including Merycful Fate, Mastodon, Slipknot and Gojira - but they hail from the ancestral territory of Wallmapu, which belongs to the Mapuche Nation. By proudly embracing ancestral instruments, traditional chanting and the Mapuzungun language, the band's fierce bent on groove metal bridges contemporary and ancient culture.

This year, Mawiza are releasing their third album and first since signing with Season of Mist, which RollingStone named one of the 15 Latin Albums that they can't wait to hear. As they prepare to make their most spirited statement yet, today, the band's vocalist is delivering a speech at TEDx Pucón, a local event that's celebrating how nature inspires, nourishes and transforms local leaders in Chile. Awka will speak to how music can be a bridge between culture, territories and memories.

Watch Awka's speech at TEDx Pucón
Friday, April 4 @ 1:30 pm Eastern Time

After his speech, Awka will join his bandmates for a special acoustic performance, which will include new versions of songs from Mawiza's Pulsar Award-winning album Kollong

MAWIZA is a metal band originally from the Wallmapu, ancestral territory of the Mapuche Nation in South America, which sings in Mapuzungun, their ancestral language.

Their identity is based on the preservation of their roots, the relationship of the human being with nature and the conservation of biodiversity, guided by their cosmovision and cultural struggle.

Founded in 2014 as Nunca Seremos Dichosos, they released two albums under that moniker, Tierra (2017) and Kollong (2019). With this formation, they managed to tour not only Chile, but also Colombia and Bolivia. Kollong included the single "Mawiza ñi piwke", the first Metal song sung entirely in Mapuzungun. In 2020, the album won the prestigious Pulsar Award (Chilean Grammys) in the Best Metal Artist category.

After several line-up changes, in 2021, the band decided to change its name to Mawiza and leave behind its mixed use of Spanish and Mapuzungun. They committed to Mapuzungun as its sole language of expression.

Major milestones in the band’s career include: opening for Gojira and Mastodon in 2022 in front of more than 10,000 people, playing with Mercyful Fate at the Movistar Arena Santiago, performing at Knotfest Chile 2023 and playing in front of 30,000 people at the Pasiwali Festival in Taiwan.

Others include participating in the Fluvial music fair in Valdivia, as well as in the Micsur fair in Santiago.

They also visited West Side Studio, owned by renowned producer Alan Douches and performed an acoustic concert at Selva Gallery in Brooklyn.

Wrath of Logarius Don 'Crown of Mortis"

No matter what skeletal form they assume, Wrath of Logarius aren't bound by black metal's strict traditions. The band's debut album crowns them kings of a new realm for the underground: formless black metal.

"What a fresh perspective", Metal Bite writes in a 9/10 review for Crown of Mortis. "For every second's worth of savagery, you'll also take in striking melodic passages and slow-burning parts that feels as if you've been placed on the rack; relentlessly dragging the depths; turning up the filth of human existence with every dooming riff".

"For a debut album, the record is very concise, compact and fluid", says Pedro from A&P Reacts. "There's a little bit of everything pushing this record in different directions and that gives the sound a much richer texture than if it was just a black metal album".

Crown of Mortis comes out this Friday, April 4 on Season of Mist, but you can hear all nine boundless songs today by listening to the full album stream on the Season of Mist YouTube channel.
