Society 1 Enter Studio With Dagon Destroyer And Danny Carey of Tool Snare Drum

SOCIETY 1 front-man MATT ZANE recently met with a former label Earache Records representative to discuss re-releasing a 20th Anniversary version of their most successful album Exit Through Fear. Unfortunately after some consideration the label decided to pass on
the idea.

"I go to The Rainbow in Hollywood to meet up with our old A&R guy that actually signed us 20 years ago. I basically said to him, you still own the album and I'm unable to do something without you guys. Let me make it easy, we already have a tour booked with STATIC-X, FEAR FACTORY and DOPE, I'll deliver a few alternative versions of songs, re-edit our Download performance and bring back some of the original guys. I thought it was a no-brainer." said Zane

Not owning the rights to the original album led Zane to get creative on how to promote the 20th anniversary and create something special for the fans of the band's most popular era.

"I went back into the digital vaults and found the demos from the writing sessions. PAUL RAVEN (KILLING JOKE, PRONG) was on most of them and BILL KENNEDY (NINE INCH NAILS, MARILYN MANSON, U2) was producing. Those two aren't with us anymore so it was really cool to revisit that stuff"

Now SOCIETY 1 has entered Skylit Sound with drummer DAGON DESTROYER, who toured with the band during the Exit Through Fear era and was featured in the history making "Nothing" video to record four B-Sides that didn't make the original release.

To add to the unique nature of this project Dagon recorded with DANNY CARY'S actual snare drum he used on the TOOL album, Undertow.

DISMEMBER - Sign With Nuclear Blast / "Like An Everflowing Stream" Kicks Off Catalog Re-issue Campaign

Recently reformed Swedish death metal pioneers DISMEMBER are proud to announce that they have once again joined the ranks of NUCLEAR BLAST RECORDS, where they released their demo, Reborn In Blasphemy (1990), their 1991 debut album, Like An Everflowing Stream, as well as the four records that would follow. In celebration of this announcement, a fully remastered version of Like An Everflowing Stream has been made available on streaming services worldwide today after it had been absent for quite some time.

Like An Everflowing Stream - hailed by many as one of the best death metal albums of all time - is the first entry in a re-issue campaign of the entire DISMEMBER back catalog, which is currently being remastered from the original albums. Stay tuned for more info on proper LP & CD re-issues that are in the works for late 2022!

Fred Estby (drums) comments: “After reuniting the original line-up and performing sold-out shows in 2019, the axe chopping business needed a solid partner to get the festering complete back catalog back on the streets. The unholy alliance of 1990 is reconfirmed, Dismember and Nuclear Blast Records are once again a perfect kill team!

Jens Prüter, Head of A&R Nuclear Blast Europe, adds: "It’s a pleasure to bring back one of the Nuclear Blast bands of the early days. The 1991 debut album Like An Ever Flowing Stream quickly became a Death Metal classic and they haven’t released a weak album until they officially split up 20 years later in 2011. I still remember one of their last shows, in 2008 at the Party-San Open Air, where they played with their buddies GRAVEand UNLEASHED - only ENTOMBED was missing to complete the Big Four of Stockholm Death Metal. And it was a pleasure to see them again on their first reunion show in 2019 at the Scandinavian Death Fest in their hometown. Only a few seconds in it was clear that they were back in full force. Welcome back!"

About DISMEMBER:

Between 1988 and 2011 DISMEMBER earned a notorious reputation as the “Motörhead (version) of death metal”, through eight classic albums and furious live shows around the globe. The band was formed by Robert Sennebäck, David Blomqvist, and Fred Estby in Stockholm, Sweden, in 1988 and has long since been regarded as one of the originators of the trademark Swedish death metal sound, next to other pioneering bands such as ENTOMBED, GRAVE and UNLEASHED. DISMEMBER recorded a few self-released demos before their 1990 demo cassette, Reborn In Blasphemy, with Matti Kärki on vocals and ENTOMBED's Nicke Andersson taking over most lead guitar parts, got picked up for a wider release by NUCLEAR BLAST RECORDS. In 1991, their first full-length, Like An Everflowing Stream (Nuclear Blast Records), saw the light of day, which was recorded by Thomas Skogsberg at the now legendary Sunlight Studios, and featured Richard Cabeza (UNANIMATED) on bass. DISMEMBER released their acclaimed sophomore album, Indecent & Obscene, in 1993, which to this day remains their most successful output. Three more albums would follow on NUCLEAR BLAST, Massive Kiling Capacity (1995), Death Metal (1997), and Hate Campaign (2000), until the band decided to switch labels. They released two more albums, Where Ironcrosses Grow (2004, Karmageddon Records) and The God That Never Was (2005, Regain) before Fred Estby announced his departure for family reasons in 2007. Their last album, Dismember, followed in 2008 and the band officially broke up in 2011. After an eight-year hiatus, the band's original line-up reunited for a 30th anniversary gig at Scandinavia Death Fest in October 2019, performing together for the first time in over 20 years.

WINDIR Releases Full Discography on Vinyl + Cassette

After the overwhelming response to WINDIR's 'The Sognametal Legacy' box set, which sold out in 24 hours, the entire discography of the Norwegian black metal veterans is now available for pre-order on black and various colored vinyls as well as cassette formats!

Pre-orders have started immediately and are available in the Season of Mist shop HERE. The release date is set for May 28, 2021.

Image 3-18-21 at 4.24 PM.JPG

WINDIR was founded by Terje “Valfar” Bakken in 1994 and released four albums in the period of 1997 – 2003. The Norwegian band gained a massive following with their unique blend of black and heavy metal with elements of old Norwegian folk music. The identity of the group was strongly connected to their home region Sogn, which was demonstrated in the lyrics and in the concepts of the records. Eventually, they invented and adopted the term ‘Sognametal’ for their style.

The band ended abruptly when Terje “Valfar” Bakken died in 2004. The remaining musicians decided to disband WINDIR and formed VREID to march forward, bearing the torch of the Sognametal legacy.

Jarle Hváll Kvåle, bass guitarist and songwriter of VREID and WINDIR, comments on the release: “I am so happy that we are finally able to do this. There has been such a huge demand to release these albums on vinyl and I really have been looking forward to this day. These records are important cornerstones in our lives and represent a time that was very special to us. It is great to have a strong partner on board, and I am very proud that we can do this together with Season of Mist.

Next year marks the 20th anniversary of '1184', and we think this is a great occasion to celebrate this unique album, the most important one in the
WINDIR history. With this record, WINDIR became a full band for the first time and it was the first time that me and Terje wrote an album together. It was a time filled with youthful will, aggression, pride, curiosity and of course beautiful naivety.

So, to celebrate this record and the period it represents, we’ll have the entire
WINDIR legacy available on vinyl. I can’t wait to get my hands on the physical copies and see no better way to celebrate the legacy and brotherhood of our fallen comrade Terje.”

CANADIAN MUSIC HALL OF FAME GROUP LOVERBOY RELEASES 40th ANNIVERSARY VINYL EDITION OF MULTI-PLANTIUM CERTIFIED SELF-TITLED ALBUM LOVERBOY

Image 12-2-20 at 5.10 PM.JPG

Canadian Music Hall of Fame group, LOVERBOY, celebrates the 40th anniversary of their 5x Platinum-certified, self-titled album Loverboy this year. To commemorate this sonic work of art, the group releases a special limited-edition vinyl of the legendary rock classic today via Sony Music Entertainment Canada Inc. Loverboy the album is available for purchase now HERE

Originally released in October 1980, Loverboy features many fan-favourite singles, including “The Kid Is Hot Tonight”, “Turn Me Loose” and “Little Girl” – the latter serving as the inspiration behind the iconic album sleeve artwork. Contemporary Canadian artist Barbara Astman was commissioned to create the cover art, and brilliantly typed the lyrics from “Little Girl” onto a self-portrait Polaroid as it developed. The 2020 special edition is printed with a full cover emboss on Astman’s typed text to pay homage to this process.

While reminiscing about making the album and the musical test of time, lead vocalist Mike Reno reveals, “Boy did we get lucky in late 1979 to work with the best in the business, Bruce Fairbairn and Bob Rock..... oh and don’t forget Mike Frazer. This record still sounds great.” Echoing Reno, Guitarist Paul Dean confirms, “Considering we recorded ‘Get Lucky’ 40 years ago, I think it holds up really well. Especially on this new deluxe vinyl edition, I would say it’s the best it’s ever sounded.”

Loverboy went on to become a major Canadian rock hit, winning a record-breaking six awards at the 1982 Juno’s – a record the band still holds today. Upon release, the album sold more than 700,000 copies in Canada, two million copies in the U.S. and four million copies worldwide. The band’s success catapulted them into the Top 5 touring acts in the world, making them the first Canadian group to ever earn Columbia Records’ exclusive Crystal Globe Award, celebrating the sale of over five million albums outside their native country. Since 1992, the band has maintained a steady road presence, with Sony/Legacy releasing a greatest hits compilation. The group was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame at the 2009 Juno Awards.

More About LOVERBOY:

For more than 40 years, LOVERBOY has been “Working for the Weekend” (and on weekends), delighting audiences around the world since forming in 1978, when vocalist Mike Reno was introduced to guitar hot shot Paul Dean – both veterans of several bands on the Canadian scene – at Calgary’s Refinery Night Club. Along with Reno and Dean, LOVERBOY still includes original members Doug Johnson on keyboards and Matt Frenette on drums, with Ken “Spider” Sinnaeve replacing the late Scott Smith on bass.

LOVERBOY signed with Columbia Records Canada, entering the studio with producer Bruce Fairbairn and engineer Bob Rock to record their self-titled debut album, which went on to sell more than 700,000 records in Canada. Columbia U.S. released the album in Nov. 1980, which went on to sell more than 2 million albums in the States and four million worldwide. Soon the band found themselves playing on mega tours with Journey, Bob Seger, Cheap Trick, ZZ Top, Kansas and Def Leppard, to name a few. They quickly became MTV darlings, being one of the first bands ever featured on the music channel.

With their trademark red leather pants, bandannas, big rock sound and high-energy live shows, LOVERBOY has sold more than 10 million albums, earning four multi-platinum plaques, including the four-million-selling “Get Lucky”, and a trio of double-platinum releases in their self-titled 1980 debut, 1983’s Keep It Up and 1985’s Lovin’ Every Minute of It. Their string of hits includes, in addition to the anthem “Working for the Weekend,” such arena rock staples as “Lovin’ Every Minute of It,” “This Could Be the Night,” “Hot Girls in Love,” “The Kid is Hot Tonite,” “Notorious”, “Turn Me Loose,” “When It’s Over,” “Heaven In Your Eyes” and “Queen of the Broken Hearts.”

In 2005, LOVERBOY celebrated 25 years together by performing in selected cities throughout the U.S. and Canada. During the summer tour, the band introduced a couple of brand-new songs, which led to Just Getting Started, their first new studio album in a decade. In March 2009, the group was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame at the Juno Awards show in Vancouver.
