KORPIKLAANI - Release Video For 'Sauna', The English Version Of Their Song 'Saunaan'

Finnish Folk Metal Superstars KORPIKLAANI have released a video for the song 'Sauna', which is an English version of the first single from their latest album, Rankarumpu.

KORPIKLAANI's twelfth studio album Rankarumpu is classic folk metal - fast, energetic and dynamic, showing once again they are the leaders in this genre. The fast paced, violin-driven and playful folk metal tune 'Sauna' is one of the finest examples of KORPIKLAANI's staggering virtuosity. With its irresistable lead melody and a chorus for the ages, 'Sauna' should fill any fan of the genre with pure delight.

Samuli Mikkonen (drums) commented:
"We’ve have played 'Saunaan' on every show after it was released and it has become a banger! Now it was about time to make an English version so everybody can understand our tribute to Finnish sauna culture. The message is simple:
'Sauna! To party is not a crime
Your worries will burn like a pine!'"

Korpiklaani will embark on an extensive GSA tour with In Extremo and Rauhbein on November 15th.

Today, Finnish folk metal superstars KORPIKLAANI, the cultural ambassadors for Finland, are celebrating the release of their new studio album, Rankarumpu. This marks the 12th full-length entry in their impressive discography. Alongside, a video for the album's title track has been unveiled today and can be watched below! Meanwhile, KORPIKLAANI are getting ready to embark on an extensive North American tour which will kick off next week. Scroll to the bottom for all dates!

KORPIKLAANI's twelfth studio album is once again classic folk metal, fast, energetic and dynamic, showing once again they are leaders in this genre. One of the most wonderful features of Rankarumpu is related to the folk instruments. Although KORPIKLAANI has done one or maybe even a couple of unforgettable things in the realm of folk metal, this time new permanent member Olli Vänskä's (ex Turisas) violin and Sami Perttula's accordion may surprise even die-hard fans. Rankarumpu was again produced by Janne Saksa and recorded at his Sound Supreme Studio and Korpiklaani’s HQ, Miehola Studios.

Singer Jonne commented:
"Rankarumpu is our fastest album, which was easy and fun to make. However, in contrast to the fun, the war theme rears its head here and there on the album because the world situation is so completely absurd and twisted at the moment. Violinist Olli Vänskä joined this album as a new member, while Tuomas Rounakari focused on his solo production. Olli was Tuomas’s deputy many times over the years when he was busy, so he was the only right choice as a member. He participated in the arrangements but also composed for this album. The song and video for Rankarumpu perfectly sums up what this band represents at its best, which is having fun together with our audience. This will even make the purists get dancing!"

KORPIKLAANI - Release New Single/Video 'Oraakkelit'

Finnish folk metal superstars KORPIKLAANI are happy to unveil their newest single and music video 'Oraakkelit'. It's the third single from their upcoming new studio album, Rankarumpu, which is due to be released on April 5th, 2024.

KORPIKLAANI's twelfth studio album is once again full of tasty folk metal and its different flavors, but it also offers new spices. One of the most wonderful features of Rankarumpu is related to the folk instruments. Although KORPIKLAANI has done one or maybe even a couple of unforgettable things in the realm of folk metal, this time new permanent member Olli Vänskä's violin and Sami Perttula's accordion may surprise even die-hard fans.

'Oraakkelit' shows a darker, more serious side of KORPIKLAANI and is a nice contrast to the happier, more upbeat previous singles, 'Saunaan' and 'Aita'. The mood of the song has been perfectly captured by a mystical and visually stunning video directed by Vesa Ranta.

Singer Jonne commented:
"I had never actually written a shuffle based song before and I wanted to try to write such a riff and see how it would work in metal music. Normally it is used a lot in old blues and rock’n’roll music. I was suprised how cool it went and then I thought: what if all the gods all over the world would have a big rock’n'roll dancing party together underground. The idea made me laugh, so I decided to use it!"

Drummer Samuli added:
”When I heard the first demo I was really excited. This is something very different! I felt there could be a cool shuffle feeling to the rhythm and I started to explored it. There is a great atmosphere in the song. First it lurks enigmatically but then it starts to rock! Drumwise you can use lots of dynamics. It will be a fun live song!”

KORPIKLAANI - Release Brand New Single & Video, 'Aita'

Finnish folk metal superstars KORPIKLAANI are happy to unleash 'Aita', the second single from their upcoming new studio album, Rankarumpu, which is due to be released on April 5th, 2024.

'Aita' keeps up the full-speed ahead approach from the previous single, 'Saunaan'. The dizzying pace, a catchy chorus and a masterful violin/accordion duel make 'Aita' an absolutely irresistible tune that bears all trademarks the Finns are universally known and loved for. Folk metal at its best!

Composer Olli Vänskä commented:
"'Aita' was actually composed as an instrumental track, or that was at least the intention. I sent a demo version to Jonne and when I was asking about it a week later, he told me "hell no!" and gave me the lyrics he wrote. And good lyrics, too! I'm very satisfied about the violin riff and how the folk interlude turned out as well. Lots of interesting stuff happening there!"

Front man Jonne Järvelä added:
"I got a very cool demo song from Olli to which I riffed with a guitar. Then a theme started to form in my head that I transformed into a song which was easy to write words to.
In the lyrics, the main person meets an old familiar village man who has been on the road as journey man for a long time and returns to his home village. The man asks his friend all sorts of questions about what he has seen around the world, but the journey man only answers vaguely, but with wise lessons."

Finnish folk metal superstars KORPIKLAANI have announced the name and release date of their upcoming new studio album, Rankarumpu, which is due to be released on April 5th, 2024. In addition, KORPIKLAANI have revealed their massive touring plans for 2024, starting with an extensive UK tour with Alestorm and Heidevolk in February and March, two album release shows in Mexico on April 5th and 6th, followed by a North Amercan tour with Visions Of Atlantis & Illumishade (feat. members of Eluveitie) in April and May, a good number of big European Summer festivals and a European tour towards the end of the year. KORPIKLAANI's twelfth studio album, Rankarumpu, is once again full of tasty folk metal and its different flavors, but it also offers new spices. Perhaps the ancient gods of joyful music have decided to bless their own sons with some new miraculous extracts?

"Whenever I start writing something new, the material always finds its own path without any forcing - that stuff just comes from somewhere deep inside me, completely naturally", states Jonne Järvelä.

"Anyway, when I started to come up with the material for Rankarumpu, I set myself a goal. A couple of previous records, especially Kulkija (2018), were a bit slower as a whole, so this time I wanted to benefit from a bit faster tempos - a bit like the old Korpiklaani."

This is exactly what Rankarumpu is all about. Of course, KORPIKLAANI sometimes slows down and gets seriously emotional, but for the most part Rankarumpu - as a whole, probably the band's catchiest album to date - rushes forward at a faster pace.

One of the most wonderful features of Rankarumpu is related to the folk instruments. Although KORPIKLAANI has done one or maybe even a couple of unforgettable things in the realm of folk metal, this time new permanent member Olli Vänskä's violin and Sami Perttula's accordion may surprise even die-hard fans.

Rankarumpu, like the two previous records, was executed with recording / mixing engineer and producer Janne Saksa. It seems that the collaboration between the band and Saksa has reached a whole new level with Rankarumpu.
