...AND OCEANS Are Reborn Again on 'The Regeneration Itinerary'

…and Oceans has persistently defied musical confines. But while the Finns have always ebbed and flowed between different extremes, the band's upcoming seventh album is their most expansive body of work.

The Regeneration Itinerary pulls from across ...and Oceans' 30-year history. Inspired by Paulo Coelho's best-selling novel The Alchemist, on their new album, the band meld black and death metal with symphonic, industrial and electronic elements, striking a balance between darkness and light.

The album's lead single "Inertiae" embodies this relentless evolution, fusing together symphonic chaos and industrial trance-dance beats.

The Regeneration Itinerary is a celestial compass guiding listeners through the prognostications of time and the shadows of consciousness. Recorded at SoundSpiral Audio by Juho Räihä, and brought to life by the alchemy of Tore Stjerna’s mixing and mastering, ...and Oceans upcoming new album is a tour de force that promises to redefine the veteran band, while also pushing the boundaries of symphonic black metal to uncharted territories.

"Inertiae" serves as a prelude to The Regeneration Theory's labyrinthine odyssey.  The album's lead single lays bare the duality of light and dark, striking a balance that is synonymous with ...and Oceans' iconic sound. Its mesmerizing blend captures the cosmic interplay between chaos and order. As the song unfolds, Mathias Lillmåns' potent vocals dance with the intricate rhythms crafted by guitarist Timo Kontio and keyboardist Antti Simonen.

"Inertiae, the bringer of paralysis, the guardian of my sleep." Mathias says about ...and Oceans' new single. "The one that opens my eyes, keeps my flesh in stasis and my mind barely touching the surface. This track is a dialog, like a servant addressing his master, between me and the bane of my slumber."

The visualizer for "Inertiae" was created by Aarni Visuals.

“The Regeneration Itinerary explores the interplay between darkness and light, chaos and order, spiritual and material realms, with each song embodying an experience for the mind and body, navigating a passage to the present moment,” explains Lillmåns.

“The album works like a guide,” he continues. “Teaching us that not everything can be defined as simply being ‘good’ or ‘bad’, ‘light’ or ‘dark’, ‘copper’ or mercury’, underscoring the perpetual dance of dualities in the human experience.”

Modern Metal Unit SCAR OF THE SUN Drops Intense Third Single, “Quantum Leap Zero II: Transition To Turbulence”

Modern Metal Unit SCAR OF THE SUN Reveals Intense Third Single and Official Live Video for “Quantum Leap Zero II: Transition To Turbulence”

New Album, Inertia, out this Friday, May 14 via Napalm Records

Pre-Order NOW!

Hailing from Athens, Greece, modern metal outfit SCAR OF THE SUN will finally drop their anticipated upcoming third studio album, Inertia, this Friday, May 14, 2021, via Napalm Records!

After releasing the first powerful harbinger, “I Am The Circle”, followed by exciting title anthem, “Inertia”, the unit now sets free “Quantum Leap Zero II: Transition To Turbulence”, along with an captivating live video that was recorded when SCAR OF THE SUN supported the mighty Rotting Christ in Athens on the last show before the pandemic hit with undeterrable force. The song marks the second installment in the album’s “Quantum Leap Zero”-trilogy and wanders between harsh elements and intense, almost calm moments, giving way to singer Terry Nikas’ hard-hitting lyrics and showcases SCAR OF THE SUN’s multifaceted nature, stirring up the anticipation for Inertia even more.

SCAR OF THE SUN’s Terry Nikas adds:

“The third video of Inertia, second installment of the ‘Quantum Leap Zero’ trilogy, ‘Transition To Turbulence’ is the most indicative song of the album in my eyes! This was filmed at our last show before COVID hit, a magnificent sold out show as direct support to the legendary Rotting Christ in front of 2,700 people in Athens, Greece. This is probably my favorite song on Inertia and definitely the one that I am most looking forward to playing live again when the time comes!”

SCAR OF THE SUN has made a name for themselves with the very special ability to merge modern metal sound with atmospheric soundscapes and dynamic riffs. Inertia delivers a fresh take on melodic, atmospheric, often progressively-influenced metal while forging a unique path, and acts as a follow up to their self-titled demo (2005), debut full-length A Series Of Unfortunate Concurrencies (2011) and sophomore offering In Flood (2016).

On Inertia, SCAR OF THE SUN utilizes scientific terminology to transmit their impassioned messages of difficult trials and social awareness lyrically, conveying an overarching theme that reflects one of society’s heaviest burdens – that financial gain has flourished at the expense of humanity and the livelihoods of everyday people.

SCAR OF THE SUN about the album:

“Third strike, this album is our punch to the world disarray! The most aggressive album we’ve done so far indicates our current intentions! The main concept of Inertia deals with how financial interests act against the lives of everyday normal people, no matter where you come from, since profit knows no ethics and nationalities.

We become lab rats and we struggle in our everyday life while at the same time that extreme minority that runs the financial interests see people like numbers and value our lives like ants. These are matters that concern and annoy me and I had to get them out of my chest.

Instrumental intro “Hydrogen” stirs things up before kicking in with hard-hitting title track “Inertia”, evoking a truly thunderous verse and, propelled by blasting drums, leads into an undeniably catchy chorus, while the “Quantum Leap Zero”-trilogy conveys very intense and dramatic events that occured in Greece in 2015: Suppression, rise/revolution and huge defeat in the end. Beginning with “Quantum Leap Zero I: Torque Control”, SCAR OF THE SUN unveils a whole new instrumental facet of the record, splicing their soundscapes with distinctively desolate vibes. “Quantum Leap Zero II: Transition To Turbulence”, on the other hand, calls for an untamed storm to annihilate everything, followed by atmospheric “Oxygen”, smashing “The Fallible Experiment” and poignant trilogy-closer “Quantum Leap Zero III: Thrust”. Inertia ends with “Anastasis” (Greek for “resurrection”), an intense track about the terrible pain of losing someone you love. With this closer, SCAR OF THE SUN manages to put agony into words and turn this palpable despair into emotive music.

Inertia was recorded and mixed by singer and songwriting mastermind Terry Nikas at Zero Gravity Studios in Athens, Greece and mastered by the legendary Jens Bogren (Opeth, Katatonia, Dimmu Borgir) at Fascination Street Studios, Sweden.

Inertia will be available in the following formats:

-CD Digipack

-Full Digital Album

Modern Metal Unit SCAR OF THE SUN Drops Exciting New Anthem and Official Video for Title Track “Inertia”

New Studio Album, Inertia, out May 14, 2021 via Napalm Records

Pre-Order NOW!

Greek modern metal five-piece SCAR OF THE SUN is poised to reach the next level with the release of their otherworldly third full-length, Inertia, out May 14, 2021 via Napalm Records, and has dropped the exciting second single and official video for the album’s title track today!

After unveiling their hard-hitting first offering, “I Am The Circle”, quite recently, SCAR OF THE SUN is set to deliver their next smashing anthem with its catchy chorus, poised to stick in the listener’s mind forever. Taking off with an instrumental intro, “Inertia” evokes full aggression – raising a voice for everything that is about to come and lyrically dissecting the idea that those who run the world want society to be numb. The song is visually underlined and smartly grasped by an impressive music video, shot and directed by Achilleas Gatsopoulos.

SCAR OF THE SUN and on the video for “Inertia”:

“It's absolutely breathtaking to watch your emotions and words that you put on paper being materialized and visualized in such a magnificent way! The work of Achilleas Gatsopoulos exceeded our expectations for one more time! Achilleas perceived and depicted the whole Inertia album lyrical concept and he managed to fit it in a four minute masterpiece of a video. We hope everyone will enjoy it as much as we do!”

Achilleas Gatsopoulos adds:

“Picking up from where the album cover left off, the band's trademark Jugendstil/Dieselpunk/Ancient Minoan design elements were combined with an Expressionist Film approach in order to breathe life into the intricate illustration and manifest the lyrical concepts into visual form.”

Vocalist Terry Nikas on the second single, “Inertia”:

“The opening track of the album is a surprise attack! An amalgam of good old Swedish death metal with modern colors, it’s the aggression you didn’t expect at all!”
