Shock rock legends GWAR are back to wreak havoc once again with their new Multimedia Release, 'The Return of Gor Gor,' due on July 25th, 2025, via Pit Records/Z2 Comics. This multi-format assault on the senses includes brand-new studio recordings, ferocious live performances, and an exclusive 32-page comic detailing the epic return of Gor Gor, GWAR’s long-lost, three-ton Tyrannosaurus Rex. This release is a collaboration between GWAR and Z2 Comics, ensuring fans get the ultimate immersive experience.

But where has Gor Gor been all these years? How do you misplace a three-ton Tyrannosaurus Rex? The answer lies in 'The Return of Gor Gor,' a multi-format experience that intertwines music and graphic storytelling. 'The Return of Gor Gor' follows the tale of an orphaned T-Rex cub, lost in a depraved world that is completely alien to him. Will he become an ally of the legendary Scumdogs of the Universe, or will their reunion unleash an apocalyptic battle? Only time will tell.

The band will first embark on a run of headlining shows with direct support from GHOST BATH from October 4 - 14 and then will start their trek with GWAR on October 17 through November 20, with additional headliners in Reading, PA and Columbia, SC during the run. Swedish black metal icons DARK FUNERAL will be embarking on a U.S. tour later this year as direct support for GWAR! The trek will kick off on October 17 in Las Vegas, NV and will dominate the states until the final stop on November 20 in Nashville, TN. The full itinerary can be found below.

Production of the record was handled by the band while engineering was a joint effort between Eddie Casillas, Eddie Rivas, and Miguel Seco. The mixing and mastering of the album was completed by Seba Puente who was also a part of the engineering team. The album artwork was created by Gary Ronaldson. This is GWAR is the powerful story of the iconic heavy metal art collective, as told by the humans who have fought to keep it alive for over thirty years. The feature documentary includes interviews with the band members, both past and present, and other artists, including Weird Al Yankovic, Thomas Lennon, Alex Winter, Bam Margera, and Ethan Embry, including never seen footage of legendary GWAR frontman Dave Brockie (Oderus Urungus).

Fantastic Fest Presents “This is GWAR” Documentary Screenings Coming to Alamo Drafthouse

The long awaited and highly anticipated documentary “This is GWAR,” will be receiving a limited theatrical run at select Alamo Drafthouse locations in North America, prior to its on-demand release via Shudder. “This is GWAR,” had its world premiere in September 2021 at Fantastic Fest in Austin, TX and these special screenings are being presented by Fantastic Fest as well. Showings begin July 16th and a complete list of locations can be found below. Tickets are on sale HERE.

Members of GWAR will appear at two screenings of the film. Those screenings will be July 17th in Richmond, VA* and July 18th in Brooklyn, NY.

SHUDDER ACQUIRES AWARD-WINNING DOCUMENTARY THIS IS GWAR

June 14, 2022 – Shudder, AMC Network's premium streaming service for horror, thriller, and the supernatural, has acquired rights to the documentary. This is GWAR, which gives rare insight into the 30-plus year career of one of the world's most outrageous heavy metal bands, GWAR, known for their grotesque costumed characters and notoriously wild, fluid-soaked stage shows. The film, which world premiered at Fantastic Fest in Austin, TX, and won the 2021 Audience Award at NIGHTSTREAM, will be available exclusively on Shudder in the U.S., Canada, and the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand on Thursday, July 21.

"For more than three decades, GWAR has set the standard for heavy metal horror with larger-than-life personas and gore-filled stage shows that were unlike anything anyone had ever seen,” said Shudder General Manager Craig Engler. “But even their most ardent fans have never seen them like this, as the band and director Scott Barber reveal in moving detail the literal blood, sweat and tears that have made GWAR the true legends they are today."

As the release date draws nearer, the mighty alien overlords of GWAR have unleashed the second track from their forthcoming masterpiece, “The New Dark Ages.” Watch the visualizer, and listen to the song “Berserker Mode” HERE. The visualizer features the first animated art cells from the band’s upcoming graphic novel “GWAR In the Duoverse of Absurdity.”

Lead singer Blóthar had this to say about the song:

“This is my origin story, about transforming into a drug-jacked unpredictable liability on the battlefield. But like me, it has a softer side, a tale of the struggle of becoming my authentic self…a sexy, multi-donged, vajazzzled, Viking cow beast known as…The Berserker Blóthar!!”

"The New Dark Ages" chronicles GWAR's adventures in the Duoverse, where the band rediscovers old powers such as Blóthar’s terrifying Berserker Mode, and encounter new allies, such as the murderous maven known as The Cutter. Along the way, they battle the living monuments of a lost cause and armies of undead soldiers who Rise Again to fight a New Civil War.

The album concept is tied to a companion graphic novel, “GWAR In the Duoverse of Absurdity,” which will also be released by Z2 Comics on June 3rd. In the graphic novel the band are sucked off into an alternate universe to do battle with their evil twins and the specter of rogue technology.

In support of the album, GWAR will return to the road this Spring on “The Black Death Rager World Tour.” The tour starts this Thursday May 19th in Ft. Wayne, IN and runs through June 17th in Reading, PA. Support will be provided by Goatwhore, The Native Howl and Nekrogoblikon.

These are the songs for a new age, a New Dark Age, when men live by the dimming light of a technology destined to betray them.
