Exploring Birdsong are headlining London's St Pancras Old Church tonight, November 5, and tomorrow, November 6. After the first date sold out in two minutes, the band added a second. This also sold out in minutes, underlining the breathless excitement building around the group.

"'Romanticise' is centered around a relationship plagued by toxicity," the band shares. "Written from the perspective of the perpetrator, lyrically it depicts the needless and unnecessary frustration and anger shown towards their partner. The chorus had to be catchy. This was written first, and as the writing process developed and lyrical content was formed, we wanted the breakdown section to match the chaotic and aggressive nature of the lyrics."

The band continues. "The opening line to the chorus is a sarcastic jab at the protagonist's partner — 'You could romanticise a car wreck at eighty' — it illustrates their frustration at a tenaciously positive outlook, and is followed by 'Would you anatomise the way I'm behaving?,' shifting the blame from themselves as if their behavior is being overly scrutinized when questioned. The song is written, unfortunately, from personal experience."

The alt-pop trio, centered on Lynsey Ward's stunning vocals, showcase a richer and more expansive element with their newest effort — a mature evolution from the organic rawness of their piano-led roots. Despite the shift in sound first signaled with the acclaimed 2024 singles "The Collapse," "Weight in Gold," "All I Lack," and "Stitch," the three-piece has not sacrificed any of the emotional intimacy or genre-blending beauty that sets them apart.

The voice of Ward (also of Espera), mixed with the talents of Jonny Knight (bass + keyboards) and Matt Harrison (drums), help forge a truly unique approach to songwriting and modern heavy music.

Previously, the band has supported Katatonia and Sleep Token as well as a main stage appearance at RADAR and Euroblast festival. Straddling pop, progressive rock, and uncategorizable genre-blending beauty, the band is mostly unplaceable, but "Romanticise" suggests flashes of Everything Everything's inventiveness, the dramatic flair of Kate Bush, and the synth-heavy intensity of Enter Shikari — whilst remaining uniquely Exploring Birdsong.

UK Alt-Pop Trio EXPLORING BIRDSONG Close a Chapter, Begin a New Era with "All I Lack" + Music Video

Piano-led, guitar-less British trio EXPLORING BIRDSONG closes the current chapter of its band history with their new single "All I Lack." From now on the band is fully focused on the future, gearing up for their debut album release in 2025.

"'All I Lack' being the last single ahead of our album release feels pretty profound," says EXPLORING BIRDSONG"It would make sense for this song to indicate where we’re headed next and let our listeners into what has been happening at Birdsong HQ, but that has never really how we’ve chosen to operate. This song has shades of old (in the most literal sense - there are actual parts and stems from old songs in here) and new, whilst still being totally true to us, which feels fitting as we move ahead in our next phase as a band.

"Essentially a love song, we’re tapping into new areas of songwriting that we’re starting to become more comfortable with exploring. Lyrically, 'All I Lack' faces the beauty of the feeling of loving someone, whilst knowing your time together at some point will end; and, as a result, wanting to almost stretch time so it never has to end. Arguably, it is easier to write whilst staying within the parameters of a concept or narrative. Writing about real life takes a degree of introspection that can be uncomfortable sometimes but essential in taking us to new places and maturing our writing. This one means a lot to us and feels like a great way to close this chapter of the band. We can’t wait for people to guess what on earth this album is going to be like!"

UK Alt-Pop Trio, EXPLORING BIRDSONG, Reveal New Single "Stitch" + Music Video

A beautifully curious blend of pop-sensibility, delicacy and experimentation. Piano led, guitar-less trio EXPLORING BIRDSONG are paving their own musical path with their latest single "Stitch".

'Stitch' was a song that came together really quickly for us," comments EXPLORING BIRDSONG. "In a moment of borderline crazed inspiration, a lot of the key elements for 'Stitch' have existed more or less since the very first demo. We’re always keen to try new things and pull influence from lots of obscure places- this one unapologetically referencing the Davy Jones organ scene from Pirates of the Caribbean (IYKYK). The song itself is essentially about teamwork in a relationship, trying to feel strong in the face of adversity because someone you have helped to carry in the past is now carrying you. Despite 'Stitch' being a return to heavy BIRDSONG, we wanted the message to be a fairly sweet one.”

EXPLORING BIRDSONG, Return With New Single "Ever The Optimist"

Acclaimed young alt-pop/prog trio Exploring Birdsong return with their new single & video "Ever The Optimist". This is their first new music in three years since 2019's stunning 'The Thing With Feathers' EP.

The band comments:

"This song certainly has the most interesting back story to any of the tracks we’ve written. When in university back in 2018, Lyns and Matt were given the opportunity to have a one on one songwriting session with Sir Paul McCartney. This is the song they took into the session and worked on with Sir Paul himself. It’s by far the poppiest song on the record and was the catalyst for centring our songs around synths as well as sole piano parts."

Rarely are new groups as exciting, talented or unique as Exploring Birdsong, the piano-led guitarless trio from Liverpool. Straddling pop, progressive rock and uncategorizable genre-blending beauty, the band are unplaceable for the most part, but bring to mind elements of Kate Bush, Sleep Token and Agent Fresco.

Rarely do you hear a voice as captivating as front woman Lynsey Ward’s. Powerful, controlled, and spine-chillingly tender, Lynsey’s vocals help mark Exploring Birdsong as a prospect to watch, already receiving acclaim from Kerrang!, Prog Magazine, Classic Rock Magazine, and many more.

Following the release of their debut EP 'The Thing With Feathers' (2019, Long Branch Records), the band finally return with their incredible new single "Ever The Optimist".

"Ever the Optimist", was originally penned when the band studied at LIPASir Paul McCartney’s prestigious performing arts institution in Liverpool. The band’s songwriting talents earned them a one to one songwriting session with Sir Paul, with whom they crafted the skeleton of the single.

Described by the band as "a complete melting pot of all the influences that makes us sound like us", the single sees Exploring Birdsong steer closer to their pop influences than ever before, with one of the best choruses you'll hear this year.

The young group most recently made their European debut at Euroblast festival (Cologne, DE) - their first live performance since their five city inaugural headline tour across the UK in September 2021, including London, Manchester and Birmingham, and following successful support tours with the likes of Sleep Token and Thank You Scientist.

Whilst Exploring Birdsong refuse to be pigeon-holed to one genre, they evoke moments of Agent Fresco, Kate Bush, Everything Everything, Sleep Token and Karnivool.
