2027 marks a unique triple anniversary for Udo Dirkschneider and U.D.O.: Udo turns 75, U.D.O. celebrate 40 years as a band, and Voodoo Ranger marks the release of the German heavy metal institution’s 20th studio album. This very special record release will be celebrated on January 8, 2027 via powerhouse label Reigning Phoenix Music.

U.D.O. now opens this milestone chapter with the first taste of Voodoo Ranger: new single “I’ll Die Trying.” Accompanied by an official music video, the track also marks the launch of the album pre-order.

Rather than launching Voodoo Ranger with an all-out metal attack, U.D.O. introduce the album with one of its most personal moments. “I’ll Die Trying” is a classic U.D.O. ballad about perseverance, self-belief and staying true to your path, carried by the unmistakable voice of Udo Dirkschneider.

The song also became the album’s first single through an unexpected turn of events — a change of plans that, as Udo explains, ultimately felt like the right choice.

“‘I’ll Die Trying’ is one of the most personal songs on Voodoo Ranger. It’s about never giving up, believing in yourself and always moving forward, no matter what life throws at you. The last verse especially means a lot to me because it reflects what I’ve experienced on stage for so many years. Every concert is a special moment and as long as people want to hear me sing, I’ll keep giving everything I’ve got. I’ve always believed that a great ballad can be just as powerful as the heaviest metal songs, and throughout my career these songs have become some of the most memorable ones. ‘I’ll Die Trying’ is another one of those songs that comes straight from the heart.

We originally planned to launch Voodoo Ranger with a different song, but after Peter and Alen were injured during one of the recent concerts of the Balls To The Wall – 40th Anniversary Tour, we had to postpone the original video production. Rather than rush things, we decided to let ‘I’ll Die Trying’ lead the way. Looking back, it feels like the right choice. The song captures a side of U.D.O. that has always been important to me. Ballads have been part of my career from the very beginning, and our fans have always embraced them. At the same time, nobody should think this album is getting softer: Voodoo Ranger is packed with classic U.D.O. power and has plenty of surprises waiting.”

And Voodoo Ranger does indeed have more than a few surprises in store.

The album finds U.D.O. as unmistakable as ever with their signature sound firmly intact. Powerful riffs, massive hooks and Udo Dirkschneider’s unique voice meet heavier and darker moments.

SEA SLEEPER Release New Album Burden Of Antlers With Visualizer

Oregon's death metal quartet SEA SLEEPER preset their sophomore full-length album, Burden of Antlers. With a sound that embraces the weird and obscure, Burden of Antlers sees the band hone further the cohesion across their composition process to produce an offering that is thoroughly eclectic and heavy. 

The band comments:

"Burden of Antlers is our second album as sea sleeper. Three of us have been working together to make the weirdest/Heaviest metal we would want to listen to. We have been playing music together for close to 15 years and we recently recruited Tony Spradlin as the fourth sleeper. This album is a more cohesive effort than our debut release Nostophobia. This record comes back to passages and re-explores them in their entirety instead of finding the next shiny riff."

SEA SLEEPER has refined the creative direction of their sound in Burden of Antlers. Leaning into the eclectic, 'weird', and, ultimately, heavy, the band focus on developing riffs and motifs across the track list, resulting into a more cohesive and thematically linked full-length offering.

FALSIMONIAN Release New Single "Judgment" With Visualizer, Ahead of Forthcoming EP 'For Survival'

Melodic death metal quartet FALSIMONIAN have released their most experimental single offering, "Judgment" alongside a visualizer created by audio-visual artist Brian Pinke aka pinkenoise. The track delivers a sonic fusion of death metal, progressive metal, and jazz. FALSIMONIAN's forthcoming EP, For Survival, is scheduled to arrive independently on November 7, 2026.

FALSIMONIAN is pleased to announce an exciting collaboration with audio-visual artist Brian Pinke, out of South Carolina. Pinke performed multiple reactive takes to the track using a modular synthesizer connected to his custom video generating rig. He edited the takes to create the final version, resulting in a bespoke analog video experience.  

Each video performance is unique and impossible to replicate, and the intricate analog circuitry creates glitch-like art that is both haunting and beautiful fusing retro and modern aesthetics.

The US and Mexico based melodic death metal band FALSIMONIAN infuse their dynamic heavy sound with influences from Mexican folk and Latin-American roots music, as well as progressive elements and jazz. Centered around a fictional, dystopian world, the upcoming EP considers the everyday impact onto individuals who are living under the threat and fear of a world-ending catastrophe.

For Survival was produced by Jesus Fuentes Valverde, with mixing and mastering by Gil Andrade. Drums engineering was undertaken by Ruben Sanchez at Urvn Studios, with guitars and keyboards recorded by Jesus Fuentes Valverde and vocals recorded by Erick Valverde. Guitar and vocal editing, and bass programming, was by Jesus Fuentes Valverde. Additional guitars on "Limitless", "Judgment" and "For Survival" were recorded and edited by Cesar Robles. 

All artwork photography for the EP and single releases are from X-Rays Erick Valverde has taken over the last 10 years. The artworks utilize original photographs of a colorful sunset as the light source behind the X-Rays. These colors are commonly seen in the desert skies of the US/Mexico border. Ariadne Willis adjusted the photographs for the layout and design of the EP and single covers. Erick's accidents and health struggles have also indirectly influenced the overall theme of the EP. Additional photography by Rancho Creativo Studios. 

About FALSIMONIAN:

Rooted in melodic death metal, FALSIMONIAN began as the brainchild of Jesus Fuentes and Erick Valverde in 2024, who welcomed Cesar and Mauricio in 2025 completing the band's line-up. Their sound is unique to the members' life experiences as bi-cultural individuals hailing from the harsh desert in the US-Mexico border. 

With members based out of El Paso, Texas, USA; Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, USA; and Leon, Guanajuato, Mexico, FALSIMONIAN incorporate genre influences from Mexican folk and Latin-American roots music, as well as jazz. "'Siren Of The Song' is a riff fest that connects the unlikely dots between Cheap Trick, Slayer, Voivod and ZZ Top and includes 3 guitar solos in 3 minutes. It seemed like a good first single as it encompasses influences from 4 of our favourite bands."

"1/2 of Imperial Filth was recorded with no click, 80% of it was live off the floor using real British tube amps and no drum samples or AI". Explains Burton. "We tried to go for a live feel as much as possible, left in a human touch and then overdubbed upon the bed tracks. This record has a bit more of a proggy feel than our last LP as we wanted to explore arrangements that lived outside the world of verse/chorus/verse/chorus/bridge/chorus.

We loved working with Daryl Smith and he really helped let us focus on the playing while he took care the sounds."

Symphonic Black Metal Act VESSELES Present "Eternally Within Us (Reclaimed)", Announce Album 'Home (Reclaimed)'

Symphonic black metal project VESSELES has unveiled "Eternally Within Us (Reclaimed)." The single released alongside a visualizer lands ahead of the forthcoming full length, Home (Reclaimed), scheduled to arrive on March 26, 2027. 

On "Eternally Within Us (Reclaimed)," Valira shares: 
"The ritual track of the album, this offering delves into the birthing ritual in the Beneath with very grand verses enacting the mantras and a Latin section to truly make this the origin ceremony. With the newly reclaimed version, the verses have become elegantly harmonized, deepening the connection to Home."

VESSELES is an artistic outlet allowing Valira the space to express and explore who they are. Home (Reclaimed) confronts the discomfort and complexity of what 'home' is to someone who is not from this world. Now recorded with their own vocals, Home (Reclaimed) captures fully Valira's origins and purpose. In addition to the vocal performance, the album is filled with piano driven leads, grandiose symphonic compositions, dissonant passages and pained progressions encapsulating their experience. 

Home (Reclaimed) was produced, mixed and mastered by Nick Loiacono at Fang Studios, San Mateo, CA. Founded in 2023, VESSELES is the sonic vessel through which Valira speaks the language of their origins. SLAUGHTERSUN Release Ferocious Cover Of CORONER's "Die By My Hand" With Video

Extreme metal juggernaut SLAUGHTERSUN present a tribute to CORONER with a cover of "Die By My Hand." While striving to honor the sonic appeal of the original recording, SLAUGHTERSUN have injected elements of their own distinctive character into their interpretation. 

"The original recording of Coroner’s 'Die By My Hand' is a relic of it’s time and a prime example of the legendary fidelity produced by Scott Burns at Morrisound in Tampa FL back in the 80’s and 90’s", shares band leader Ben Karas. "In a time before drums were routinely gridded and productions were overly polished, the power trio Coroner proved that metal could be as groovy as it is dark and brutal. Moving the boundaries of recorded music, their virtuosic musicianship and infectious musical pocket solidified their place as an influence to Slaughtersun’s sound.

The technical side of the recording is also of interest as it is part of the roster of bands with Scott Burns’ unique production style. Burns’ goal was to preserve the primal energy of the music but present it in a way where all of the details could be heard. As all of Slaughtersun’s music is self produced and contains unconventional instruments, a similar attempt at innovation is present."

Originally written and performed by CORONER, SLAUGHTERSUN's interpretation of "Die By My Hand" was recorded by sound engineers Ben Karas and Chris Alfano. KALAMITY KILLS returns with a brand new singer, a brand new energy and a brand new version of their 2023 release of "I Still Believe," a rock-n-roll classic best known from the 1987 The Lost Boys movie.

On the new chapter, guitarist, producer and co-founder Jamey Perrenot shares, “Vincent brings a brand new energy to this band and gives us an undeniable, distinctive sound that we want the world to hear!"

Perrenot explains the decision to revisit "I Still Believe", "Rowe and I both shared the mentality that a well placed, well proven cover can be money in the bank. We had some pretty decent radio success with the song right off the bat, almost unintentionally. We really didn’t know what to do with that success and never felt like the song got its best shot at radio because we didn’t have the resources or 'know how' to capitalize. The two of us always agreed that that song needed another chance so, by sheer coincidence, we had started the process of the remix right before Rowe quit.

I was mid stride with the production and intended to release the remix with Jamie’s vocal, even though he had already left. It was just sheer luck or the grace of God that Vincent Langdon came along when he did; just in time to get him on the track before the release date!"

NVICTA Unleashes New Single "Overthrow Divinity" From Upcoming EP Sapienomachy

Canadian melodic death thrash force INVICTA return with "Overthrow Divinity," the first single from their upcoming EP Sapienomachy.

Active since 2017, INVICTA have carved out a reputation for aggressive old school riffing, sharp melodic hooks, and a modern approach to death and thrash metal. With one EP and two full-length albums already behind them, the Kitchener-Waterloo band now enter a new chapter with Sapienomachy, a concept-driven release that expands their sound into power metal, traditional metal balladry, and progressive storytelling.

Inspired by Greek mythology, Sapienomachy takes its name from mythic conflicts such as the Titanomachy and Gigantomachy. The EP reimagines the tale of Prometheus giving fire to humankind, following a story in which humanity turns that gift into a weapon and wages war against the gods, ultimately destroying their universe.

The EP’s artwork was created by legendary German artist Andreas Marschall. Drawing from Greek myth, the cover depicts Prometheus embedded in the mountain, offering his final flame to humankind.

"Overthrow Divinity" launches the EP with fast-paced power metal influence, twin harmony guitar leads, and relentless drumming. Lyrically, the song is told from the perspective of humanity rising against the gods after generations of oppression and restraint. Its story also speaks to modern anxieties: mankind given tools and technologies meant to help, only to turn them toward destruction in a relentless lust for power.

Sapienomachy also marks a unique creative moment for INVICTA. Originally written as part of a full-length album, these songs were set aside and shaped into their own standalone release, allowing the band to explore a more narrative, dynamic, and mythological side of their writing.

ANGELS ON THE BATTLEFIELD explain the concept behind "Beauty in a Body Bag": “This song was written to capture the dark and tormenting struggle that is so strongly associated with Borderline Personality Disorder. People with BPD often describe it as feeling like having an endless black hole of emptiness living inside of them, leaving them with an unstable and shifting self identity. As a result, BPD can be chaotic and terrifying.

'Beauty in a Body Bag' was written to give this darkness form, and allow those who are struggling to face that darkness head on in order to learn how to overcome it.”

Progressive Duo CEPHEIDAE VARIABLE Explore Restraint And Internal Pressure In The New Single, "The Waiting Storm"

In "The Waiting Storm," CEPHEIDAE VARIABLE present an immersive sonic offering representing internal turmoil between patience and appeasing a restless mind. The track lands ahead of their forthcoming album Primordial Reverie Ascendant, out January 8, 2027.

"The song centers on restraint and internal pressure," CEPHEIDAE VARIABLE explain. "This is heard in lines like 'I sit and lie in wait, a tempest ruminating'. As the track progresses, the 'beast' and 'storm' imagery point to something growing beneath the surface. An increasing urgency that can no longer be ignored. What begins as patience shifts toward inevitability.

Outside of the narrative, the lyrics also reflect periods of creative stagnation. Lulls in momentum where progress feels stalled. That tension between inactivity and pressure mirrors the track’s central themes."

MAD MAX Celebrate “Stories Of Destiny” Record Release With Brand-New “Dulces Falsos” Music Video

German hard rock titans MAD MAX celebrate the record release of “Stories Of Destiny” with a brand-new music video for “Dulces Falsos.” The song marks a special first in the band’s history: it is the first MAD MAX track ever recorded with Spanish lyrics and presents their classic “Piece Of Candy” in a powerful new version.

With “Dulces Falsos,” MAD MAX pay tribute to their loyal fanbase in Latin America. New lyrics by Andreas Baesler and the Spanish vocals give the song a fresh character while preserving the energy and spirit of the original.

"Dulces Falsos" is the first song we ever recorded with Spanish lyrics. With this version of our classic "Piece Of Candy" we would like to say a very special thank you to all our fans in Latin America who have always stayed loyal to us and who have helped make the Mad Max comic a great success, especially in Colombia and Mexico.

Andreas Baesler has written a new and very up-to-date set of lyrics. The Spanish vocals give the song even more power, presence and raw energy. Many journalists see in "Dulces Falsos" an attitude and charisma reminiscent of bands such as HEROES DEL SILENCIO for example. That makes us very proud."

Stories Of Destiny finds MAD MAX celebrating 45 years of history while continuing to push forward with new material. Packed with powerful guitar-driven anthems, memorable melodies and timeless hard rock spirit, it combines newly recorded material, long-awaited hidden gems and collaborations with some of the most respected names in the rock and metal world. The album also introduces UK vocalist Alan Clark while welcoming original MAD MAX singer Andreas Baesler as a special guest for his first MAD MAX appearance in 45 years, creating a direct link between the band's earliest days and its present.

Founded in Münster, Germany in 1981 by guitarist, songwriter and bandleader Jürgen Breforth, MAD MAX have remained one of Europe's most enduring melodic hard rock and heavy metal acts for more than four decades. Renowned for their unmistakable guitar-driven sound, strong melodies and classic hard rock attitude, the band have built a loyal international following through countless albums, tours and festival appearances.

Reflecting on an extraordinary career while embracing the future, Stories Of Destiny is built around songs Breforth had the honor to co-write with acclaimed musicians including Sascha Gerstner (Helloween), David Readman (Pink Cream 69), Andreas Broon (The Sisters Of Mercy) and Michael Voss, known from his work with Michael Schenker. The visual world of Stories Of Destiny connects to the MAD MAX comic, created by Mexican comic artist Maestro Arturo Said. The comic tells the story of the band from its founding days in 1981 through the 1980s and up to MAD MAX’s first shows in Colombia in 2023, making the album both a musical and visual celebration of the band’s legacy.

Progressive Rock Duo DATURA LODGE Present A Psychological Thriller In Horror Inspired Video For "Hole"

Progressive rock duo DATURA LODGE delve into themes of regret and self-destruction through the warm analog comfort of David Lynch inspired visuals in the new release "Hole". Directed by Samantha Feyerabend-Muljat, the music video for "Hole" manifests in the form of a psychological horror as the protagonist spirals into self-sabotaging behaviors. The track is taken from the forthcoming, self-titled album set for release on October 2, 2026, via ARQUEN Records.

On the new release Nicky B explains the compositional process: "Musically this started for me with the small seed of the intro guitar and some effects I was playing with. It kind of fell together from there. One of the late additions to the arrangement that I am really happy with is the vibraphone in the bridge section. I was thinking specifically of the song 'Drifting' by Jimi Hendrix and knew Adam [Holzman, keys] would nail it since he had used similar sounds in his work with Steven Wilson. 'W' delivers an epic and emotional guitar solo that could not have been any more perfect for the song."

“W” adds: "This is undoubtedly the best song on the album. When we recorded this one, Ben proclaimed that 'this is the single!' Nicky B knocked it out of the park in the writer’s room and I think the band did a particularly good job handling the dynamics starting with the soft melancholy beginning and constantly building it up until it detonates with Nicky B belting the final chorus."

Director Samantha Feyerabend-Muljat comments on her creative approach:
"Since the band wanted to avoid a literal interpretation of the lyrics, I aimed to translate the emotional baggage into a tense, psychological mystery."

Emotional and captivating, the soundscape of "Hole" contains a dream-like atmosphere. The instrumental and vocals layers across the track are enveloping and immersive; they shut out the external world allowing one to become lost in their internal thoughts.

The band's debut self-titled album, Datura Lodge, is scheduled for release later this year via ARQUEN Records. 

Datura Lodge was produced by DATURA LODGE and Ben Karas. Tracks 1-5 were recorded at Frightbox Recording in Passaic, NJ, while tracks 6-9 were recorded at Frost Gauntlet Recording in Lyndhurst, NJ, all with engineer Ben Karas who mixed the album. The release was mastered by Andy VanDette at Evolve Mastering. The cover artwork for Datura Lodge was created by Samantha Feyerabend-Muljat.

Across the album, DATURA LODGE is joined by Adam Holzman on keyboards and Russell Holzman performing drums, with Ben Karas lending violin to "Stone".

Victoriana Infused Electronic Metal Duo CODEX LOVELACE Release Album 'Galvanized Heart' With Video For "The Corps"

CODEX LOVELACE present the debut full-length Galvanized Heart. With a shared love of Victoriana, history, and a bit of cyber punk, CODEX LOVELACE, led by Joan Avant and Holly Royle (DISCONNECTED SOULS), fuses dark EDM with metal. The album release arrives alongside a new video for "The Corps". 

"The Corps" lifts the curtain on the darker side of entertainment. This song is about Les Petits Rats (little rats) who were corps ballet dancers in the nineteenth century and they were expected to prostitute themselves to certain patrons of the ballet. These are the girls in the shadows in Edgar Degas’ paintings being watched by lurking men.  

With high energy and eerie changing moods, "The Corps" delivers rhythmic intensity across electronics and metal instruments. Seductive lyrics and enthralling moments are met with a thunderous and shadowy quality revealing the sinister aspects beneath.

About CODEX LOVELACE:
Devised from a shared love of Victoriana, fantasy and admiration for history’s ‘invisible’ women, CODEX LOVELACE is an eclectic project led by Joan Avant and Holly Royle (DISCONNECTED SOULS). 

The band’s name is a direct reference to Ada Lovelace whose story, among others, is explored across the music and lyrics of their debut album, Galvanized Heart. Musically, the thunderous power of heavy metal, ethereal quality of orchestral arrangements and ambience of electronic textures become entwined across CODEX LOVELACE’s sound. 

The project arose from what was initially intended to be a sole collaboration song between Texas, US, based Joan Avant and Chester, UK, based Holly Royle. Before long, the scope of their creativity grew into a full-length offering. 

Produced by Joan Avant, the track list contains compositions spearheaded by both members demonstrating a wide breadth of genre and style influences from EDM to djent guitars. At the core, CODEX LOVELACE is designed to combine catchy simplicity, dance quality with intriguing textural layers, emotive soundscapes and stories of lives often overlooked. The debut album Galvanized Heart is scheduled to arrive on September 4th, 2026.

AMORPHIS Announce North American Co-Headline Tour With INSOMNIUM This November

Finnish metal visionaries AMORPHIS are set to join forces with melodic death metal pioneers INSOMNIUM for the North American co-headline tour, with support from US melodic death/doom metal act HINAYANA. Beginning in Boston, MA, on November 17, the bands prepare to bring powerful storytelling and haunting heaviness to audiences as the winter months draw near.
