The second set sees John and his rocking band perform ‘Days of Future Passed’ in full symphonic splendor, and with incredible renditions of ‘Nights in White Satin’ and ‘Tuesday Afternoon’. The show also includes mesmerizing video to create a fully immersive experience as John, and his band, take the audience on a journey back in time. John’s stories, the incredible vocal harmonies, the passionate musicianship, and the loving recreation of this groundbreaking album, all wrap around the listener, creating Moodies magic that stays with them for long after the music fades.

Some of the Moodies most loved songs were composed and sung by John, such as ‘Isn’t Life Strange’, and ‘Ride My See-Saw’, and these are brought into the show with a new passion by John and his band. He also performs his heartfelt renditions of songs written by Mike Pinder and Ray Thomas. Graeme Edge appears on screen for a very special video, reciting his poems, ‘Morning Glory’ and ‘Late Lament’. And to complete this special evening, Jon Davison of YES performs “Nights in White Satin”, “Tuesday Afternoon”, and other classic Hayward-penned hits. Jon has been the lead singer of YES since 2012, and brings his soaring vocals and passion to these classic songs. Jon is also John’s son-in-law, and seeing them together on stage gives a glimpse into their deep friendship.

“In crafting this show, I wanted to ensure there was a place for all my Moodies bandmates. It’s a joy to perform not only my own songs but those of my friends Ray and Mike, and to hear Jon sing Justin’s songs. But my greatest joy is seeing Graeme up on stage with me, it never stops being emotional. My hope is that we can all take a trip down days of future passed together, and that audiences will leave feeling as if something joyful happened to them. It’s been a tough year, but thanks to the love of my family, and the support of my fans, I’m delighted to be back on the road, so thank you all for keeping the faith.”

As Beneath a Desert Sky said, 'a must see show if you love classic progressive rock music or The Moody Blues music'

‘Days of Future Passed’ was released 56 years ago, and was arguably the start of progressive rock.  These songs began the long standing cross-over between rock and classical music, and the Moody Blues shows were always known for recreating this incredible sound, and for the wonderful atmosphere enjoyed by both those on stage, and in the audience. John has surrounded himself with a band that are equally passionate, who put simply, love performing together, and who appreciate and respect the legacy of the music. The Moodies may not perform any more, and the loss of Graeme, Ray and Mike is felt deeply, but this show honors John’s friends and the music.

The electrifying show will also be in support of John’s album ‘Days of Future Passed – My Sojourn’, available now on CD and all streaming services, with limited edition 180g coloured vinyl also available.

Joining John on stage is his ‘10,000 Light Years Band’, comprised of long term collaborator Alan Hewitt (Music Director and Keyboards) and Billy Ashbaugh (Drums) from the Moody Blues touring band, together with Duffy King (Guitars) and Jason Charboneau (Cello).  Jon Davison of YES will also be joining him for his special renditions of ‘Nights in White Satin’ and ‘Tuesday Afternoon’, plus the magical voice of Graeme Edge.

‘If you love The Moody Blues music, then you really need to checkout John live.  He and the band put on a great show!’

John Lodge is bass guitarist, vocalist, and songwriter for the iconic Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame 2018 inductees, The Moody Blues. THE MOODY BLUES’ JOHN LODGE RELEASES 'DAYS OF FUTURE PASSED – MY SOJOURN' ON VINYL AND CD WITH RESCHEDULED JULY TOUR

John Lodge, legendary bass player, songwriter and vocalist of The Moody Blues, and inductee of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, is to release his latest studio album Days of Future Passed – My Sojourn on CD, with a special Limited Edition 180gram Platinum Vinyl to follow on April 12th. Special autographed bundles will also be available.

Over the last year John has been performing his version of this groundbreaking album, lovingly recreating it in full symphonic glory, and the reaction from audiences then led naturally to a studio recording. It was originally released in the UK, but following critical and fan acclaim, and John’s passion around the release, he is delighted to finally be releasing the album in the USA. The recording tells the story of ‘a day in the life’, and includes “Nights in White Satin”, “Tuesday Afternoon”, and “Peak Hour”, together with a very special recording of “Late Lament” by the late Graeme Edge and performances by Jon Davison of YES.

“This is an album that will reach into your heart with its gentleness and beauty and will refresh your soul as its hidden depths are re-discovered. I urge you to hear this masterpiece as a balm for modern times, it is most highly recommended” Progradar-October 5, 2023

The release will be followed by John’s USA tour in July – rescheduled from February/March due to a medical issue.

View “Peak Hour” video below:

Lodge had this to say about the new release, “When I decided to call my album ‘Days of Future Passed - My Sojourn’, it was about this incredible album, but sitting here today, it feels very poignant that I’ve had my own ‘sojourn' over the last couple of months... I’ve embraced this quiet time, been surrounded by the loving support of family and friends, and taken time to be thankful. However, I'm delighted to be able to bring this album to you in the USA, and be back on the road where I love!

So, thank you to all the fans, the venues, the promoters, and my agent, for being so patient and working so hard to reschedule these dates.

But most importantly, I’m so happy to announce that my album is being released in the USA. I loved seeing it released in the UK, but knew it needed to be available in the USA too!

This journey began following conversations with Graeme as I wanted to continue to bring our music to the fans. Modern technology gives us great tools to recreate what we did in 1967, hopefully bringing out nuances or new emphases that weren’t there before, but what is at the heart of it is an incredible album. I will always be grateful to Graeme, Justin, Mike and Ray, we created some wonderful music together, and for now, I’m grateful to Alan, Billy, Duffy and Jason, and of course Jon, for helping me continue on the path I love. Thank you to all for keeping the faith.”

John will be back on tour in July, with his rescheduled dates, where you will be taken back in time as you experience the album live, in its entirety, together with a set of Moody Blues classic hits.

My hope is that coming to one of my shows, you can close your eyes and we can all take a moment to turn back the clock as we celebrate this music together. THE MOODY BLUES’ JOHN LODGE ANNOUNCES RELEASE OF ALBUM ‘DAYS OF FUTURE PASSED – MY SOJOURN’ TO ACCOMPANY HIS JULY 2023 USA TOUR

The album is to be released on CD as special fan club only release, and will be available at the upcoming shows starting July 18th, and through John’s website https://shop.johnlodge.com for pre-orders, with shipping on August 7th.

The album was recorded over the last year, and has grown from John’s current live show as he, and his 10,000 Light Years Band, lovingly recreate this classic album. The album also features a special recording by the late Graeme Edge and performances by Jon Davison of YES. It is being released as part of John’s celebration of the album ‘that changed his life’, and with the hope that it will continue to introduce fans to the original iconic recording. The album’s orchestration is by John’s long-term collaborator, and great friend, Alan Hewitt.

“November 2023 will be the 56th anniversary of 'Days of Future Passed’. It’s incredible to look back on this album that changed my life, and that still has so much impact today on so many, and I felt that it deserved celebrating, and so I began rehearsals in 2021/2022 to bring this celebration to life on stage. What was important to me was to make this concert another milestone in the history of ‘Days of Future Passed’, and so I asked Graeme if he would record his poetry, ‘Morning Glory’ and ‘Late Lament’, to include in my concert. Graeme gave me his blessing and said, ‘John, Keep the Moody Blues music alive’. We had a fantastic time putting the show together, with Alan, Duffy, Billy and Jason, and Jon Davison, giving me so much support and helping bring my vision to life. After the final rehearsals for the concert, I realised I should capture this new moment in time, although a reflection of the past, forever, by going into the studio and recording the album, ‘Days of Future Passed – My Sojourn’. I am hoping that this will bring a new generation of listeners to the album, that they then may rediscover the original recording, and the beautiful vocals of Mike Pinder, Justin Hayward, Ray Thomas and myself.  I dedicate this album to Graeme, Justin, Mike and Ray, to Tony Clarke, and to all the fans that are with me on this sojourn, no matter when you joined…”  John Lodge July 2023

The CD in Digipak will be available starting July 18th at John’s first show in Rockford, IL, and a vinyl album is due to follow in the Fall.  The album will also be available to stream and download from July 14th. The cover features a poignant photograph of John and his wife, Kirsten, taken by his daughter-in-law, Inga Wilson - for John, this was an image that perfectly encapsulated the idea of past and future and what this album means to him.

The original album, released in 1967, came about when Decca were exploring stereo and full frequency sound and wanted the band to put the melodies of Dvorak’s New World Symphony to lyrics to make a ‘sampler’ album. The band decided to follow their own path, and the rest is history… but in a reflection of this, John wanted to also explore how modern fidelity will impact the album today.  He is therefore also working on a Dolby Atmos version that will be available for streaming later this year.

Joining John on the album is his 10,000 Light Years Band, comprised of long-term collaborator Alan Hewitt (Music Director and Keyboards, plus Orchestration) and Billy Ashbaugh (Drums) from the Moody Blues touring band, together with Duffy King (Guitars) and Jason Charboneau (Cello).  Jon Davison of YES will also be joining him for his special renditions of “Nights in White Satin” and “Tuesday Afternoon” plus the magical voice of Graeme Edgewill be seen and heard via a special video and recording.

The tour kicks off on July 18th at the Coronado PAC in Rockford, IL, and then continues through the Mid-West and onto the West of the USA. The show will also feature a first half set of Moody Blues’ classics, including all of John’s hits, “Ride My See-Saw”, “I’m Just a Singer (in a Rock and Roll Band)”, “Isn’t Life Strange”, to name just a few of these classic and time-enduring hits.

John Lodge’s New Live Album ‘The Royal Affair and After’ — Now Available on Limited Edition 180g Blue Vinyl

John Lodge - renowned bass player, songwriter and vocalist of The Moody Blues, and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee - today releases his critically acclaimed new live album, ‘The Royal Affair and After’ on aptly coloured limited edition 180g blue vinyl, with the 180g black vinyl due for release on 11th February.

Released on CD and all digital and streaming platforms on 14th January, this spectacular 10-track album includes brand-new, live recordings of all John’s Moody Blues hits, along with special tributes to all his bandmates: Graeme Edge, Justin Hayward, Mike Pinder and Ray Thomas, including a very special recording of ‘Late Lament’ by Graeme Edge.

The album has already received critical acclaim and rave reviews. Three videos have been released on YouTube to accompany the album: ‘Ride My See-Saw’, ‘Gemini Dream’, and the latest, for ‘Isn’t Life Strange’, was premiered this week in Prog Magazine.

The album was recorded live in Las Vegas on ‘The Royal Affair Tour’, in the Summer of 2019, with additional tracks recorded during John’s subsequent USA dates. The carefully curated set and album track list includes hits such as ‘I’m Just a Singer (in a Rock and Roll Band)’, ‘Ride My See-saw’, ‘Isn’t Life Strange’, ‘Steppin’ in a Slide Zone’, and ‘Gemini Dream’. John has woven these tracks together with special tributes to his bandmates from The Moody Blues.

“I’m absolutely delighted by the incredible reaction to the album,” says John, “it truly is ’the soundtrack of my life’… as I always say to the fans: thank you for Keeping the Faith, but this time they truly have. It also makes me so very happy that Graeme did his special performance of ‘Late Lament’ for the album, he will be deeply missed, but always stay with us in our hearts and on this album. I’m also thankful to Jon Davison from YES who is a great friend, but also performs the vocals on ‘Nights’ so beautifully, honouring this iconic song. I can’t wait to see everyone back on the road — I’ve missed being just a singer in a rock and roll band!”

John and his 10,000 Light Years Band capture the essence, energy, and messages of these Moody Blues songs, performing them with the verve and musicianship the band were famed for, whilst bringing a truly modern feel to these classic songs. John’s mission statement is, after all, “I want to keep all the Moody Blues music alive!”

And that he will with this album and its carefully chosen tracks. In the words of Folk and Tumble “’The Royal Affair And After’ is a stunning live album from John Lodge”

Powerplay Magazine who awarded the album 9/10 say “Performed in Las Vegas on The Royal Affair Tour, it's clear that those present were treated to something very special… We’re left more than satisfied by a fabulous selection of live favourites which act as a timely reminder of why The Moody Blues remain one of our finest treasures.”

Sonic Perspectives agree “These fine musicians lay the groundwork to allow Lodge to shine on top with his vocals, bass and most importantly – charisma – which conveys his sustaining love for the material.”

“In summary,” RockMusicStar reflect, “The Royal Affair and After’ record is a must have for any music lover that is appreciative of well-crafted songs, classic rock and electrifying live performances. John Lodge and band bring back the magic of the Moody Blues with a record that is both very satisfying to not only to long-time fans, but also the younger newer fans. The music of the Moody Blues may be decades old, but Lodge and band give the Moody Blues’ masterpieces a fresh coat of sonic paint.”

The ‘Royal Affair and After’ is out now on CD, digital download, all streaming services, and limited-edition 180g blue vinyl. The black vinyl will be released on 11th February 2022. You can catch John and his 10,000 Light Years Band on tour in the USA in March, performing all these songs and more! See John’s website for details.

NEW LIVE ALBUM RELEASE JOHN LODGE OF THE MOODY BLUES‘THE ROYAL AFFAIR AND AFTER’ OUT JANUARY 14

NEW LIVE ALBUM RELEASE
JOHN LODGE OF THE MOODY BLUES
‘THE ROYAL AFFAIR AND AFTER’
OUT JANUARY 14

Keeping The Music of The Moody Blues Alive
John Lodge Releases ‘The Royal Affair and After’

John Lodge — legendary bass player, songwriter and vocalist of The Moody Blues, and inductee in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame — today releases a dynamic and vibrant new live album: ‘The Royal Affair and After: a release that’s sure to delight existing fans of The Moody Blues and make new ones.

This 10-track album includes brand-new, live recordings of all John’s Moody Blues hits, along with special tributes to all his bandmates: Graeme Edge, Justin Hayward, Mike Pinder and Ray Thomas.

The album was recorded live in Las Vegas on ‘The Royal Affair Tour’, in the Summer of 2019. with additional tracks recorded during John’s subsequent USA dates. For John, it provided an opportunity to bring his electrifying show to both long-established fans of The Moody Blues and to younger music lovers new to them.

You’ll also find ‘Saved by the Music’ from the Blue Jays’ album (released by John and Justin Hayward in 1975, during The Moody Blues’ 5-year hiatus).

John has woven these tracks together with special tributes to his bandmates from The Moody Blues - as John describes it, the ’soundtrack of his life’.

‘The Royal Affair and After’’ includes a poignant, very special recording of the poem ‘Late Lament’ by the Moody Blues’ drummer Graeme Edge (co-founder and drummer of The Moody Blues, who sadly passed away in November 2021). The poem originally appeared on the iconic album ‘Days of Future Passed’, written by Edge, but voiced by Mike Pinder. John was delighted when Graeme Edge agreed to record his poem for him, in his own voice.

John’s tribute to Ray Thomas is his version of “Legend of a Mind”, John and Ray were friends from the age of 15 when they met on a bus in Birmingham and decided to form a band together. His tribute to Mike Pinder is his rendition of ‘Sunset’: a new version that captures the mystical tone of Pinder’s work, and Jon Davison of YES provides guest vocals on ‘Nights in White Satin’. For 54 years John has played this song at every Moody Blues concert, and loves playing the bass line that he wrote all those years ago, and with the Moody Blues no longer touring, this was a wonderful opportunity to play tribute to Hayward.

On tour and in the live recordings that comprise the album, John and his 10,000 Light Years Band capture the essence, energy, and messages of these Moody Blues songs, performing them with the energy, verve and musicianship the band were famed for, whilst bringing a truly modern feel to these classic songs.

John’s mission statement is, after all, “I want to keep all the Moody Blues music alive!”

“The last two years have been strange and crazy times,” John reflects, “and we have all faced challenges we never imagined. For me, it was very therapeutic to spend time working on this new live album. As the COVID waves have come and gone, and we’ve been isolated and often separated from loved ones, I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about these songs: songs that really are the ‘soundtrack of my life’: ‘Ride my See-Saw’, ‘Isn’t Life Strange’, ‘Steppin’ in a Slide Zone’ — all seem so relevant today.

“It also makes me so very happy that Graeme did his special performance of ‘Late Lament’ for the album: he will be deeply missed, but will always stay with us in our hearts and on this album.

“I’m also thankful to Jon Davison from YES, who is a great friend, but also performs the vocals on ‘Nights’ so beautifully, honouring this iconic song.

“I wish for us all as we start 2022 that this is the last COVID wave, and we can be back together again on the road, enjoying life, and this music. At the end of the day, I am just a singer in a rock and roll band.”

Joining John are his ’10,000 Light Years Band’; Alan Hewitt (Music Director and Keyboards), Billy Ashbaugh (Drums), Duffy King (Guitars) and Jason Charboneau (Cello).

'The Royal Affair and After' is released today on CD and digital download and all streaming services. A limited-edition blue vinyl will also be released on 28th with a black vinyl release on 11th February 2022. See John’s website for details.

THE MOODY BLUES’ JOHN LODGE
RELEASES NEW SINGLE AND VIDEO FOR ‘GEMINI DREAM’
TAKEN FROM HIS NEW LIVE ALBUM
‘THE ROYAL AFFAIR AND AFTER’

AVAILABLE TO STREAM AND DOWNLOAD NOW

John Lodge, legendary bass player, songwriter and vocalist of The Moody Blues, and inductee of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, has released a live version of his classic hit ‘Gemini Dream’.

The song was recorded live in Las Vegas on ‘The Royal Affair Tour’, and appears on John’s new album ‘The Royal Affair and After’ due for release on December 3rd, and available now for pre-order here. This is the second single from the album, and a video to accompany, featuring John and his band has premiered on the John Lodge YouTube page.

"Gemini Dream" was originally released on the 1981 Moody Blues ‘Long Distance Voyager’ album, and reached no.12 in the Billboard Hot 100 charts, earning John Lodge and Justin Hayward an ASCAP award for song-writing. The song deals with the relationship between performer and audience, and you can see and hear the electric connection between John and his audience when he performs this song! John and his 10,000 Light Years Band bring an incredible energy to this recording, and it was a fan favourite on the ‘Royal Affair Tour’, never failing to get the audience up and dancing!

“‘Long time no see’… those opening words to Gemini Dream resonate even more with me today - what was true in 1981 has become true again in 2021. The song is about balancing ‘twin’ lives – touring musicians, and non-touring musicians. I finished my tour on March 8, 2020, and was in lockdown within days, but I never expected to be off the road for this long… Although this was a forced ‘sojourn’, it was a creative time, writing and recording new songs and a time well-spent with family, but as the song says, “the time is right” to get back on the road. Let’s keep that Gemini Dream alive for all of us…..and thank you for keeping the faith.” John Lodge.

Joining John on stage is his ’10,000 Light Years Band’; Alan Hewitt (Music Director and Keyboards), Billy Ashbaugh (Drums), Duffy King (Guitars) and Jason Charboneau (Cello) and together they capture the heart of this classic Moody Blues song, a song that is so relevant again today for John and the band as they wait to get back on the road in 2022.

TO RELEASE NEW SINGLE ‘RIDE MY SEE-SAW’
TAKEN FROM HIS NEW LIVE ALBUM
‘THE ROYAL AFFAIR AND AFTER’
ALSO FEATURING JON DAVISON OF YES
AVAILABLE TO STREAM AND DOWNLOAD FROM OCT 29

John Lodge, legendary bass player, songwriter and vocalist of The Moody Blues, and inductee of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, is to release a new version of his classic hit ‘Ride My See-Saw’ out on Keeping the Faith for Halesouth Ltd, distributed by BFD/The Orchard. The song also features Jon Davison of YES on backing vocals.

The song was recorded live in Las Vegas on ‘The Royal Affair Tour’, and appears on John’s new live album, ‘The Royal Affair and After’ due for release on December 3rd, and available now for pre-order here. This is the first single from the album, and Ultimate Classic Rock has premiered the video below.

"Ride My See-Saw" was written by Lodge, and was one of two singles from their In Search of the Lost Chord album released in 1967. Billboard described it at the time as a "blockbuster rocker" and a "mover from start to finish", and John’s new version continues to be that ‘rocker’ today! The song explores the idea of knowledge in a changing world, and ponders the question if perhaps what we are taught is not how things really are. Despite being 54 years old, the theme, and the sound, are as relevant today as they were back then.

In John’s words, “The song is really about growing up. You are taught things at school, and given ‘tools’, but then you grow up and go into the world. Then it’s up to you to discover for yourself what’s really happening. “’Ride My See-Saw’ is really about how life is full of highs and lows, you can’t ride the wave forever….and the secret to me is to find a balance to keep the glass half full… something I've thought about a lot over the last 18 months.”

“Ride My See-Saw” has long been known by fans as the finale at the Moodies shows, and each night during the ‘Royal Affair Tour’ Jon Davison would join John and his band on stage during this ‘encore’, adding his backing vocals to this rocking hit, arguably even more of a rocker than it was 54 years ago!

Davison has been the lead singer with YES since 2012, and has been friends with Lodge since they met on the ‘Cruise to the Edge’ in 2019.

Joining John on stage is his ’10,000 Light Years Band’; Alan Hewitt (Music Director and Keyboards), Billy Ashbaugh (Drums), Duffy King (Guitars) and Jason Charboneau (Cello). Together they capture the heart of this classic Moody Blues song, staying true to the original, whilst at the same time bringing a modern feel to it.
