NEW WAVE ICON HOWARD JONES SET TO EMBARK ON GLOBAL TOUR CELEBRATING 40TH ANNIVERSARY OF GROUNDBREAKING ALBUM “DREAM INTO ACTION”

In celebration of the 40th anniversary of his groundbreaking album, DREAM INTO ACTION, new wave icon Howard Jones will soon embark on a global tour. The tour kicks off in the United States in September and will feature support from alternative pop favorites, Haircut 100 with SiriusXM First Wave DJ Richard Blade opening the show with his world-renowned DJ set (line-up for the United States only). The United States tour dates kick off at the historic Ryman Auditorium in Nashville on Tuesday, September 2nd. Please see below for the global itinerary to date.

Of the new tour dates, Howard Jones commented, “Thrilled to be touring with my good friends Haircut 100 and Richard Blade once again for this celebratory anniversary of DREAM INTO ACTION, the shows are gonna be rocking, can't wait to see you there”. Haircut 100 frontman Nick Heyward stated, “Haircut 100 are massive Howard Jones fans and we’re looking forward to touring the US with him again in September. Like us, he has the loveliest fans and we can’t wait to see you all again.” Richard Blade added, “I'm so excited to be going back out on tour with Howard Jones. Being on the road with him in February and having the privilege to watch his amazing performances every night was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, now it's going to be twice in a lifetime!! And to have Haircut 100 and my dear friend Nick Heyward joining us will make it an absolutely unmissable concert experience. I can't wait to see you at the shows - they're going to be great.”

Howard Jones’ groundbreaking 1985 album, DREAM INTO ACTION, peaked at #2 in the UK charts and cracked the US Top 10. It went on to spawn global hit singles, “Things Can Only Get Better” (which experienced a resurgence after being featured on an episode of Netflix’s Stranger Things) and “No One is to Blame” as well as “Life in One Day” and “Like to Get to Know You Well”.

1985 was also the year Jones performed at Live Aid, Wembley Stadium, alongside such legendary acts as David Bowie, Paul McCartney, and Phil Collins. Earlier that same year in February, Jonesperformed live, keytar in hand, at the Grammy Awards from L.A.’s Shrine Auditorium with Stevie Wonder, Herbie Hancock and Thomas Dolby as part of the “Synthesizer Showdown,” performing a medley of their hits.

Electronic music pioneer Howard Jones has been a constant presence on the international touring scene for the past four decades, playing live in a number of different configurations including intimate solo shows and dates with his full high-tech band set-up. He first burst upon the contemporary music scene in 1983, with his very English songwriting and pioneering synthesizers with “New Song”. His first two albums HUMAN’S LIB and DREAM INTO ACTION were worldwide hits. HUMAN’S LIB reached #1 in 1984 in the UK and featured the hits “New Song,” and “What Is Love?” In 1985, Jones released the follow-up, DREAM INTO ACTION, which quickly became a Top Ten Platinum album in the United States and featured the smashes: “Things Can Only Get Better,” “Life In One Day,” “No One Is To Blame,” and “Like To Get To Know You Well.”

Howard Jones has sold upwards of 10 million albums worldwide and continues to make new music and tour the world. Jones has performed on NBC’s top-rated morning and nighttime shows respectively, Today and The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. His ubiquitous hits can be heard in such high-profile television series and films such as “Stranger Things,” “Breaking Bad,” “Watchmen,” “The Carrie Diaries”, “Superstore” and “Bumblebee”. Howard Jones’ most recent studio album is DIALOGUE, which was released in September, 2022. DIALOGUE is the third album in a trilogy of electronic releases from Jones with multi-media project ENGAGE coming out in 2015 and studio album TRANSFORM out in 2019. DIALOGUE garnered serious coverage in outlets such as Spin, Stereogum and more.

Haircut 100 released PELICAN WEST in 1982 to worldwide acclaim. That cherished LP contained their trademarks "Favourite Shirts (Boy Meets Girl)," "Love Plus One" and "Fantastic Day," all UK top ten singles in the 1982-83 season. Soon they added a fourth, "Nobody's Fool," by which time, PELICAN WEST was already platinum certified in the UK, only three months after release. The album spent 11 consecutive weeks in the British top ten and twice reached No. 2. It also charted in the US, Australia and beyond, after which frontman Nick Heyward left for a distinguished solo career. Heyward’s solo efforts included another top ten title, his debut solo album, NORTH OF A MIRACLE, in a collection of nine LPs in his own name to date.

Richard Blade is one of the most popular and best-known DJs in America, hosting a daily radio show on both SiriusXM 1st Wave Ch. 33 and middays on KCBS, Jack FM. In the 1980s, he was the top-rated morning drive DJ on KROQ, Los Angeles, and hosted and directed numerous TV shows and series including Video One, MV3 and VideoBeat. In 1991 he created Richard Blade’s Flashback Lunch which aired daily at noon and was copied by many stations across North America. It also spawned a series of six CDs on Sony Music, Richard Blade’s Flashback Favorites. He has won numerous awards, including, most recently, a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Richard is the best-selling author of World In My Eyes, his autobiography, and five novels: SPQR, Birthright, Imposters, Ghosts of the Congo, and Slapton Sands, all of which made #1 on Amazon’s best-seller lists. He also has two non-fiction music books, The Lockdown Interviews and The Unlocked Interviews, which feature Howard Jones. An expanded version of World In My Eyes was released late last year.

George A. Romero's 1985 Film 'DAY OF THE DEAD' Returns to Theatres and Drive-Ins for 40th Anniversary

George A. Romero’s 'DAY OF THE DEAD,' the apocalyptic final chapter of the ultimate zombie trilogy, returns to theatres & drive-ins for its 40th Anniversary! Since the film was first released in July 1985 and rolled out nationwide over the following months, it will be celebrating this seminal anniversary with shows across the country starting July 1, 2025, and running through October, 31st 2025 - HALLOWEEN! Find a screening near you at DAY40TH.com

The official trailer for the theatrical re-release can now be found via Bloody Disgusting or below.

Whole generations of horror lovers had never had the pleasure of viewing Romero’s zombie classics on the big screen, but in November 2021, Red Band Releasing started helping book the original DAWN OF THE DEAD into venues across U.S. and Canada, eventually getting it shown in both 2-D and 3-D on over 500 screens!

Now, in 2025, Red Band is thrilled for the opportunity to help fellow George A. Romero fans celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the original 'DAY OF THE DEAD' by seeing it as the legendary director intended - ON THE BIG SCREEN!

To find a screening near you check Red Band Releasing’s Blog at DAY40TH.COM for a list of dates and theatres that will be updated every few days starting in mid-June.

In addition, Red Band Releasing will be in attendance at the Living Dead Weekend at the Monroeville Mall starting Friday and will have the new 'DAY OF THE DEAD' and all the 'DAWN OF THE DEAD' posters available for purchase. The posters can be seen below:

If you don’t see a nearby screening listed at the site, we urge you to contact your local independent theatres or drive-ins and tell them you want to see 'DAY OF THE DEAD' on the big screen for it’s 40th anniversary by contacting us at RedBandReleasing@gmail.com for booking info. This grass-root campaigning for shows actually works! Last year we booked over 20 of the 100+ theatres spurred on by horror fans contacting their local venues!

DO NOT MISS this rare chance to experience the shocks of THE DARKEST DAY OF HORROR THE WORLD HAS EVER KNOWN - ON THE BIG SCREEN!

When first released in 1985, many horror fans weren’t ready for the bleaker, more nihilistic and grisly horrors of DAY, particularly not after the lighter, at times comedic, action/adventure of its predecessor DAWN OF THE DEAD. Some fans didn’t understands or appreciate the change of direction, but there were several who saw what George was doing under the surface, and over the years it has been re-watched, re-experienced and re-evaluated to the point where DAY OF THE DEAD is now seen by many as one of the greatest horror movies ever made!

CONEY HATCH CELEBRATE 40TH ANNIVERSARY OF DEBUT ALBUM WITH UPCOMING SHOW AT EL MOCAMBO

The El Mocambo in Toronto is undoubtedly one of the most instantly recognizable names when it comes to music venues. After all, such iconic artists as the Rolling Stones, Elvis Costello, the Cars, and Stevie Ray Vaughan have all performed at the legendary hall over the years (and also issued recordings from their performances there). And on Thursday, December 29, 2022, Canadian hard rockers Coney Hatch will headline the venue – to celebrate the 40th anniversary of their gold-certified self-titled debut.

VIP tickets will include entry to the venue early to witness part of the soundcheck, plus a meet & greet with all four members and a photo with the band. The band will also autograph one item per person. Details TBA - limited to 50, so purchase quickly before they sell out! Tickets can be purchased via this link: https://www.ticketweb.ca/event/coney-hatch-40th-anniversary-under-the-neon-palms-at-tickets/12695535

The El Mocambo performance will be a homecoming of sorts for the band (lead vocalist/guitarist Carl Dixon, guitarist Sean Kelly, bass player/vocalist Andy Curran, and drummer Dave Ketchum), as they previously played the venue in 1983, and hail from Toronto. To mark this special occasion, the band will be performing the debut album in its entirety that evening (a recording that spawned such hard rock gems as “Monkey Bars,” “Devil’s Deck,” and “Hey Operator”). This is Hatch's only Canadian show before they start a UK tour in January 2023 (opening a string of dates for Steve Harris’ British Lion). The show will also include additional songs from their extensive catalog.

"The El Mocambo is a venue that has been near and dear to our hearts,” says Curran. “All of the Coney’s loved performing there and we all saw so many amazing bands and artists perform there, as well. It’s so rich in history and the logical place for us to perform our debut record for the 40th anniversary for our hometown Toronto fans.”

Also, arriving soon from the Hatch will be a live album, ‘Postcard from Germany.’ “We’re very excited and grateful that after all these years, we’re still getting along and releasing new songs. We’re a brotherhood and this new live record totally captures the spirit of Coney Hatch live. In your face double guitar attack! Also two spankin’ new songs to boot! That’s a pretty cool thing for our fans.”

But first, Toronto fans will get the unique opportunity to close 2022 by witnessing Coney Hatch perform a classic album…at a classic venue!

RUSH CELEBRATES MOVING PICTURES 40th ANNIVERSARY BY MAKING RARE PHOTO OUTTAKES AVAILABLE

PROCEEDS TO GRAPES FOR HUMANITY GIFT OF SIGHT PROJECTS
Photographer Deborah Samuel is credited for capturing the now-iconic album cover images for the Rush albums ‘Permanent Waves,’ ‘Moving Pictures,’ ‘Exit…Stage Left,’ and ‘Signals.’ Now in the 40th anniversary year of ‘Moving Pictures’ – long considered one of rock’s all-time classic albums – fans will be able to obtain extremely rare photograph outtakes from the album cover shoot.

Incredibly, these ‘Moving Pictures’ photographs have never been made public. No alternate versions have appeared in magazines, in calendars, in books, or online anywhere, and have now been made available for the first time ever with the release of the Deborah Samuel Collection.

Contained in this ultra-limited-edition curated collection are: three alternate front album covers, three alternate back album covers, and twelve alternate interior album art photographs of both Alex Lifeson and Geddy Lee taken from the original ‘Moving Pictures’ photo shoot.

“I clearly remember the day Deborah set up for this cover, and especially the interior series of the ‘Moving Pictures’ photographs,” said Alex Lifeson. “I was jumping around in the dark with a bright strobe flashing away, which was disorienting to say the least, but the results fit so well with the album concept, and I loved the final photos she produced. I’m thrilled to revisit them and make the covers and these interior photos available in support of Grapes For Humanity.”

In partnership with Definitive Authentic, Grapes for Humanity is supporting the Genius 100 Foundation's (G100) Gift of Sight Campaign and the Himalayan Cataract Project (HCP). Proceeds from the sale of this special anniversary collection of photographs will provide the funds necessary to perform as many sight restoring surgeries ($125USD per) as possible for those in need in various under-resourced regions around the global where HCP has operations. These groups are working to eradicate preventable and curable blindness in low to middle income countries.

“I’m very thankful to Deborah for generously making these rare photographs available to our fans, the proceeds of which will help bring sight to the sightless,” commented Geddy Lee.

TANKARD ‘FOR A THOUSAND BEERS’THE NOISE RECORDS YEARS DELUXE BOX-SET CELEBRATING THE BAND’S 40TH ANNIVER

TANKARD ‘FOR A THOUSAND BEERS’
THE NOISE RECORDS YEARS DELUXE BOX-SET
CELEBRATING THE BAND’S 40TH ANNIVERSARY
TO BE RELEASED ON FEBRUARY 25th 2022.
WATCH A NEW VIDEO FOR THEIR ANTHEM
(EMPTY) TANKARD & PRE-ORDER HERE

The story of Tankard’s rise to one of the most revered thrash metal bands from their humble beginnings in Frankfurt Germany, began under their first name of Avenger in the early 1982. It was their ‘Heavy Metal Vanguard’ and ‘Alcoholic Metal’ demos changing hands in the era’s bustling underground tape-trading network that exposed them to the international metal community. Positive word of mouth soon attracted the attention of Germany’s own metal start-up, Noise Records, which signed the newly re-christened Tankard (beer mug) to a deal. Tankard’s tenure at the label spawned seven studio albums, one live record, a live video and a compilation and established them as one of the most enduring on the thrash scene. One they still tour globally to this day, to their hordes of maniac forces fans.

Never taking themselves too seriously and fuelled by a love of beer, their unique take on ‘fast thrash-punk’ is pure anarchy with lots of fun. Their ’86 debut ‘Zombie Attack’ was fast, furious and chaotic fun which set the table of what was to come. Following hot on the heels of their debut, 1987’s ‘Chemical Invasion’ sealed their thrash chops, with 1988’s ‘The Morning After’ cementing the band on the global scene. The ‘Alien’ EP kept momentum in ’89 until the 1990’s dawned with the reflective, ‘The Meaning Of Life’. 1991 saw their live fury documented in ‘Fat, Ugly & Live’ and also a legendary thrash fest in East Berlin was commited to film in the form of ‘Open All Night’. Tankard remained prolific through the tough times for thrash of the 1990’s, keeping the faith with the instrospective ‘Stone Cold Sober’ (1992), ‘Two-Faced’ (1993) saw them bare their teeth against social injustice and ‘The Tankard’ (1995) took them back to the familiar surroundings of the pub.

‘For A Thousand Beers’ is a deluxe 40th anniversary celebration of Tankard’s, Noise Records discography and is the definitive collection of their decade of recorded work and contains :

  • Zombie Attack (splatter vinyl)

  • Chemical Invasion (swirl vinyl)

  • The Morning After (including Alien EP) (splatter vinyl)

  • The Meaning Of Life (paint drop vinyl)

  • Stone Cold Sober (splatter vinyl)

  • Two-Faced (half/half colour vinyl)

  • The Tankard (including Tankwart EP) (splatter vinyl)

  • Fat, Ugly & Live DVD – containing ‘Open All Night’ concert film, ‘Fat, Ugly & Live’ album plus previously unreleased video concert from the Dynamo, Eindhoven 1987 and audio concert from Frankfurt 1988.

  • 12” x 12”, 40 page hardback book of photography, quotes and lyrics from the first decade of the band’s existence. Contains rare and previously unseen photos from the era.

  • All housed in a case of beer box!

‘For A Thousand Beers’ will also be available as a 7 x CDs and DVD clamshell box set containing all the studio albums, EP’s and the DVD with all the live concert bonus material.

After 40 Years - GOTTA MOVE by The Pumps released on CD for the first time

mail-84.jpeg

You look pretty cool,
You look pretty nice
Well let me give you a little advise
You driving me into a nervous wreck
And all I want is a little success
Just a little success
Just a little success

- The Pumps, “Success”, 1980

The music roots of Winnipeg, Manitoba run deep with more than “just a little success” with the international prominence of Neil Young, The Guess Who, B.T.O. and Burton Cummings setting a high standard. Throughout the 70s a homegrown rock sound continued to evolve in Western Canada and while acts like Loverboy and Trooper were finding international success, The Prairies would brew their own driving beats with acts like Streetheart, Harlequin, Queen City Kids and ... THE PUMPS.

Formed in 1978 by taking their name from a random pick in a local phone book, THE PUMPS consisted of the unmistakable vocals of bassist Chris Burke-Gaffney and drummer Terry Norman Taylor (TNT). Joined by quirky guitarist Lou Petrovich, who was compared to greats like Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page, and Brent Diamond's tapestry of keyboards creating a lush background, THE PUMPS unique blend of infectious pop/rock and high energy live shows made them a regular on the touring circuit opening for acts such as AC/DC, Triumph and Styx.

THE PUMPS quickly signed an international recording deal with Polydor Records in 1979 and flew to Le Studio in Morin Heights, Quebec to record their debut album with British producers Phil Chapman and Jon Astley at the helm. Gotta Move was released in 1980 to critical acclaim. The powerful singles “Success,” “Coffee With The Queen” and “Bust The TV” become staples on Canadian rock radio airwaves through the 80s.

In 1983, the group signed with CBS/Portrait, changed their name to ORPHAN and released 2 more albums. The single “Miracle” was a top 10 hit. In 1991, Burke-Gaffney and Taylor briefly reunited to release one album as The Deadbeat Honeymooners.

Vocalist Chris Burke-Gaffney would go on to form CBG Artist Development to manage and develop singer/songwriter Chantal Kreviazuk, co-writing and producing her Juno Award-winning and triple-platinum album, Under These Rocks and Stones. He continues to develop new artists gaining accolades, chart success and Juno nominations along the way.

The unique story of THE PUMPS & ORPHAN was told by film maker Terry Goring in the 2016 documentary “Just Little Success.” The group continues to perform live on the classic rock circuit as THE PUMPS & ORPHAN with Burke-Gaffney, Taylor, Diamond and Orphan guitarist Steve McGovern.

Gotta Move is finally released on CD for the first time by Music In Motion Entertainment as Gotta Move - The 40th Anniversary Edition. Fully remastered, Gotta Move includes 4 bonus tracks : An early live recording of “Bust The TV,” an equally early recording of “Steel & Iron” (which would eventually appear on the ORPHAN disc Salute), the radio edit of their biggest hit “Success” and a brand new acoustic version of “Coffee With The Queen.”

Gotta Move is licensed for distribution by Music In Motion Entertainment.
Gotta Move is available through their webstore on RockPaperMerch.com

CANADIAN MUSIC HALL OF FAME GROUP LOVERBOY RELEASES 40th ANNIVERSARY VINYL EDITION OF MULTI-PLANTIUM CERTIFIED SELF-TITLED ALBUM LOVERBOY

Image 12-2-20 at 5.10 PM.JPG

Canadian Music Hall of Fame group, LOVERBOY, celebrates the 40th anniversary of their 5x Platinum-certified, self-titled album Loverboy this year. To commemorate this sonic work of art, the group releases a special limited-edition vinyl of the legendary rock classic today via Sony Music Entertainment Canada Inc. Loverboy the album is available for purchase now HERE

Originally released in October 1980, Loverboy features many fan-favourite singles, including “The Kid Is Hot Tonight”, “Turn Me Loose” and “Little Girl” – the latter serving as the inspiration behind the iconic album sleeve artwork. Contemporary Canadian artist Barbara Astman was commissioned to create the cover art, and brilliantly typed the lyrics from “Little Girl” onto a self-portrait Polaroid as it developed. The 2020 special edition is printed with a full cover emboss on Astman’s typed text to pay homage to this process.

While reminiscing about making the album and the musical test of time, lead vocalist Mike Reno reveals, “Boy did we get lucky in late 1979 to work with the best in the business, Bruce Fairbairn and Bob Rock..... oh and don’t forget Mike Frazer. This record still sounds great.” Echoing Reno, Guitarist Paul Dean confirms, “Considering we recorded ‘Get Lucky’ 40 years ago, I think it holds up really well. Especially on this new deluxe vinyl edition, I would say it’s the best it’s ever sounded.”

Loverboy went on to become a major Canadian rock hit, winning a record-breaking six awards at the 1982 Juno’s – a record the band still holds today. Upon release, the album sold more than 700,000 copies in Canada, two million copies in the U.S. and four million copies worldwide. The band’s success catapulted them into the Top 5 touring acts in the world, making them the first Canadian group to ever earn Columbia Records’ exclusive Crystal Globe Award, celebrating the sale of over five million albums outside their native country. Since 1992, the band has maintained a steady road presence, with Sony/Legacy releasing a greatest hits compilation. The group was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame at the 2009 Juno Awards.

More About LOVERBOY:

For more than 40 years, LOVERBOY has been “Working for the Weekend” (and on weekends), delighting audiences around the world since forming in 1978, when vocalist Mike Reno was introduced to guitar hot shot Paul Dean – both veterans of several bands on the Canadian scene – at Calgary’s Refinery Night Club. Along with Reno and Dean, LOVERBOY still includes original members Doug Johnson on keyboards and Matt Frenette on drums, with Ken “Spider” Sinnaeve replacing the late Scott Smith on bass.

LOVERBOY signed with Columbia Records Canada, entering the studio with producer Bruce Fairbairn and engineer Bob Rock to record their self-titled debut album, which went on to sell more than 700,000 records in Canada. Columbia U.S. released the album in Nov. 1980, which went on to sell more than 2 million albums in the States and four million worldwide. Soon the band found themselves playing on mega tours with Journey, Bob Seger, Cheap Trick, ZZ Top, Kansas and Def Leppard, to name a few. They quickly became MTV darlings, being one of the first bands ever featured on the music channel.

With their trademark red leather pants, bandannas, big rock sound and high-energy live shows, LOVERBOY has sold more than 10 million albums, earning four multi-platinum plaques, including the four-million-selling “Get Lucky”, and a trio of double-platinum releases in their self-titled 1980 debut, 1983’s Keep It Up and 1985’s Lovin’ Every Minute of It. Their string of hits includes, in addition to the anthem “Working for the Weekend,” such arena rock staples as “Lovin’ Every Minute of It,” “This Could Be the Night,” “Hot Girls in Love,” “The Kid is Hot Tonite,” “Notorious”, “Turn Me Loose,” “When It’s Over,” “Heaven In Your Eyes” and “Queen of the Broken Hearts.”

In 2005, LOVERBOY celebrated 25 years together by performing in selected cities throughout the U.S. and Canada. During the summer tour, the band introduced a couple of brand-new songs, which led to Just Getting Started, their first new studio album in a decade. In March 2009, the group was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame at the Juno Awards show in Vancouver.
