Only Human Announce Inventive Debut 'Planned Obsolescence'

No matter the day and age, progressive metal never strays from the cutting edge. ONLY HUMAN are fresh on the scene having now signed with Season of Mist. But the Danish upstarts are already on the brink of a major discovery with their inventive debut album. Planned Obsolescence pushes prog metal in a truly forward-thinking direction while warning of our not-too-distant dystopia.

“We wanted ONLY HUMAN to be about something”, says vocalist Patrick Grønbæch Christensen, who also produced, mixed and mastered their debut album. “Planned Obsolescence is supposed to wake people up to all the ways technocracy is encroaching on society. We now live in a reality where humans are products to be consumed and disposed”.

Today, ONLY HUMAN are announcing Planned Obsolescence with a suspenseful video for the album’s lead single. “Automata” transmits a chilling message for the future, but the band’s cutting-edge fusion hits like a deep breath of fresh air.

Concept albums are standard procedure for metal, especially when it comes to the prog space. But when the five members of ONLY HUMAN came together via online and IRL connections, they wired the entire band’s framework around one encroaching idea. “Automata” surfs its synthetic grooves with clear command, as if by simply pressing a button. Though beneath its shining surface, the song processes the inherent danger in letting technology determine our individual thought patterns. During the music video, three thrill seekers follow guidance from their smartphone. Good times are had along the way, but tragically, they never stop to question whether it’s leading them to a dead end.

“We’ve offloaded critical thought”, Christensen explains. “We’re not really doing things because we want to do them. It’s because an algorithm has decided that’s what we should do”.

Planned Obsolescence is fueled by existential dread. Like a virus, electronic beats hack into the hard drive of “Automata”, much in the same way that technology continues to creep into our everyday lives. But that doesn’t mean that the album leaves us without hope. There’s nothing broken, outmoded or dated about ONLY HUMAN. When main-frame shaking riffs reduce the song to digital ash, their message rings out loud and clear. “Defy and learn to walk again”.

“When the world is going badly, the reason is because people gave up”, says Christensen. “Things aren’t hopeless. We can absolutely fight back. Hopefully, this album gets people to think about valuing humanity over profit”.

ONLY HUMAN’s vision for the future verges on apocalyptic. “Breach” closes the album by looking past the point of no return. Amidst its crushing despair, even the song’s glowing keys appear like a comet bound for Earth. But while fueled by existential dread, Planned Obsolescence isn’t void of hope. After all, there’s nothing broken, outmoded or dated about this new band. Unlike the attempts of artificial intelligence, their fusion of prog, djent, hard rock and electronic soundscapes is the product of much care and hard work. They had to tinker with several different versions before “Steep Descent” finally reached its climactic bridge. "Cast your flame beyond this bleak reality”, Christensen beckons as dizzying melodies and a stellar guitar solo propel him and his bandmates into the next stratosphere.

Legendary metal pioneers SEPULTURA have announced their final 'Celebrating Life Through Death' North American tour, marking the end of an era. After more than 4 decades, 14 gold records, and tours across 80 countries and diverse cultures, SEPULTURA has become one of the most influential metal bands of our time, serving as Brazil's emissary to the rest of the world. 

Hailing from Belo Horizonte, the quartet will spread Brazil's colours and rhythms for a final time. This farewell run will feature an explosive lineup, including special guests, Thrash legends EXODUS, hardcore heavyweights BIOHAZARD, and newcomers TRIBAL GAZE, promising a powerful celebration across North America.

Kicking off on April 29 in Montclair, NJ, the 'Celebrating Life Through Death' tour will visit major cities across the U.S. and Canada, including Montreal, Detroit, Chicago, Denver, and Los Angeles, before concluding on May 29 at The Wiltern in Los Angeles. ANTIMOZDEBEAST Releases New Single "Torn Mentality," Announces Forthcoming Album The Vagrant Unkempt Grave

ANTIMOZDEBEAST, the extreme industrial and electronic black metal project of multi instrumentalist and producer Gabriel Palacio, has released the new single "Torn Mentality". The track stands as one of the core thematic works from the upcoming full length album The Vagrant Unkempt Grave, scheduled for release on May 15, 2026.

"Torn Mentality" explores a fevered psychological state shaped by spiritual contradiction, ideological pressure, and emotional fracture. The song moves through cycles of fatalism, distrust, devotion, and resentment, reflecting a consciousness pulled between belief and rejection. Repeated invocations of paradise, treachery, blasphemy, and religion function as confrontational signals rather than absolutes, mirroring the instability of faith and identity in a world governed by imposed meaning. Industrial electronics, ritual atmospheres, and blackened intensity collide to create a tense and immersive composition that reflects the album’s broader narrative.

Active since 2019, ANTIMOZDEBEAST has developed a distinct sound built on harsh electronic structures, ritualistic pacing, and confrontational vocal expression. Born in Queens, New York in 1985 with congenital heart disease, Gabriel underwent his first open heart surgery at age three and spent his childhood navigating both medical fragility and the intense religious expectations of a massive family rooted in Catholic tradition. His mother, once bound for a life as a nun, left the convent path to immigrate to the United States, where she raised Gabriel and his brother within a home steeped in devotion, ritual, and the tension between faith and individuality. Pennsylvania outfit Robin Ross & The Melodynes welcome the new year with their new single 'Echo of Love', a rhythmic exercise in romantic resonance that captures the high-frequency hum of two souls colliding in perfect, melodic symmetry. A shimmering anthem of sonic intimacy, Ross frames true love as a permanent vibration—one that holds its ground long after the music stops.

This is the second offering from the band's sophomore 'Mind Space' album, forthcoming via RPM Entertainment, which was recorded at Baa Baa Leaf Music Studio on the Mountain in Milford, Pennsylvania. Ross produced and engineered this album, along with famed engineer Jonathan Duckett (Phillip Glass, Kenny G, David Sanborn).

"This is a song based on a very melodic rhythm that moves in sync with the echo of love. Love takes two to bounce feelings back and forth within your heart. Echoes from both hearts bounce until their rhythm collides and creates balance," says Robin Ross.

With musical roots in New Jersey and New York dating back to 1988, Robin Ross has established himself in the bustling artistic community of Milford, PA, A musician, songwriter, and producer with diverse musical endeavours spanning over three decades, he has released numerous albums and played a pivotal role in creating several recording studios, including Triple R Studios and Sound Complex near NYC. Ross' current recording studio, Baa Baa Leaf Music Studio, continues to expand.

In 2025, Ross released 'Back To The Forest', the debut EP as Robin Ross & The TW Howlers, a songwriting project with storied folk-rock artist TW Howell, which received critical acclaim and airplay in dozens of countries. 

In the early 1990s, Robin co-founded Laughing Jack, later rebranded as Jack’s Maze, acclaimed for a progressive rock sound reminiscent of Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin. Alas, life and business took him in a different direction. In 2021, Robin embarked on building Baa Baa Leaf Music Studio and also regrouped with Jack's Maze members Frank Cinquegrana, Scott Cowan, and Joe Torres to create new progressive rock albums. The Forecast is predicting a new Jack's Maze album later in 2026.

Thunder's Legendary Album "LIVE" is Back + Available Digitally for the First Time

British rock legends THUNDER return with a definitive live statement as their iconic 1998 album LIVE is released today in a newly remastered edition. Available now digitally, this release captures the band at a pivotal moment in their career and restores the full force of their electrifying stage power with contemporary sonic clarity.

The physical release is set for April 17 in the US.

As part of the release, the band is also presenting the video for a fan-favorite "The Only One," offering a fresh visual companion that you can watch Below.

Originally recorded in 1997, LIVE documented THUNDER during a period of renewal and momentum. The album stands as a raw, unfiltered snapshot of a band firing on all cylinders—fueled by towering riffs, blues-infused grooves, and the unmistakable voice of Danny Bowes, alongside the masterful songwriting and guitar work of Luke Morley. The remastered edition breathes new life into these performances, amplifying the immediacy and intensity that made the original release such a fan favorite.

Formed in the late 1980s, THUNDER have long been one of the most enduring and respected names in British hard rock. Their ability to blend classic rock traditions with arena-sized hooks and soulful authenticity has earned them a fiercely loyal global following. LIVE perfectly encapsulates this identity — powerful yet heartfelt, polished yet spontaneous.

The recordings also mark the arrival of Chris Childs, who joined the band shortly before these shows and has remained a cornerstone of the lineup ever since. The performances crackle with energy and interaction, featuring extended solos, unrehearsed moments, and a palpable connection with the audience. This is not a staged live album — it's the sound of a band living in the moment.

Remastered in 2025 with great care and respect for the original recordings, this edition faithfully preserves the grit and drive of the performances while delivering enhanced depth and clarity. Released by earMUSIC, it serves both as a tribute to an essential chapter in THUNDER’s history and as an invitation for new listeners to experience the band's legendary live power.

As Everything Unfolds Announce New Album "DID YOU ASK TO BE SET FREE?" Out 4/10 // "GASOLINE" Video Out Now

As Everything Unfolds are proud to announce the release date for their new album, DID YOU ASK TO BE SET FREE?, on April 10 via Century Media.

To mark the announcement, today also sees the release of a new single "GASOLINE." 

"'GASOLINE' is a story about that unquantifiable and confusing human bond you get with someone else," explains Charlie Rolfe. "That twin flame sensation, that mutual connection with an unknown person, almost like you were destined to be in each other's lives. During this song, it explores an explosive connection, the thought process, the denial in wanting it and the need to turn away from it, even though it feels wrong, you desperately try to keep hold of your life path, ignoring this fated sensation, how heartbreaking and soul-destroying it can be. This idea tied in so neatly with the concept of Count Dracula and Mina's relationship from Bram Stoker's Dracula, that otherworldly, toxic and destined love. Similar to 'Set In Flow,' we used the story to visually inspire the music video, to which shots from the video are homages to moments in the 1994 film."

DID YOU ASK TO BE SET FREE? is a deeply personal record shaped by grief, trauma, escapism and the slow, uncomfortable process of confronting reality. Written across a period of profound upheaval, the album documents a journey from emotional safety and creative flow into loss, numbness, and disorientation, before gradually finding movement again.

Framed around the idea of maladaptive daydreaming and fantasy as both refuge and trap, the songs explore addiction, self-sacrifice, burn-out, fractured relationships, and the question of whether freedom is something to be desired or feared. Drawing inspiration from cinema, literature, and subconscious writing, the record shifts sonically and lyrically as time passes, mirroring real change rather than resisting it. The result is an album that does not offer neat resolution, but instead captures the fragile, ongoing act of learning how to exist, grieve, and continue.

Anciients Announce Canadian Tour

After nearly a decade of soul searching through the Canadian wilderness, Anciients hit the road hard last year. The heavy, heady and heartfelt Canucks capped off an extensive U.S. headlining tour in support of their latest JUNO Award-winning album, Beyond the Reach of the Sun, by winning Metal & Hard Music Artist of the Year at the Western Canadian Music Awards. Now, the band are keeping their momentum rolling with their first set of tours dates for 2026.  

Anciients are announcing a Canadian tour with Cancer Bats, who are celebrating 20 years of their debut album Birthing the Giant. During this coast-to-coast run, the band will perform new favorites from Beyond the Reach of the Sun, along with earlier crowd-pleasers from their award-winning discography. Joining Anciients are Ontario’s Teeth (Fort Eerie) and Chastity (Whitby).

Descent was captured across two locations: Justin Passamonte tracked guitars, bass, and vocals at Jpass Music, while drums were recorded at Mercinary Studios with Noah Buchanan. The production was a collaborative effort between the band and long-time engineer Zack Ohren, who also handled the mixing and mastering. The result is a muscular, high-fidelity production that captures the band’s most fiery and brooding moments with equal clarity. To call Descent "heavy" or "brutal" is an understatement; this is death metal with a unique, elevated voice that stands entirely alone.

Visually, the band has once again tapped Eliran Kantor to craft a haunting cover masterpiece—a true hallmark of the Immolation aesthetic— complemented by Santiago Jaramillo’s (Triple Seis Design) internal booklet illustrations. RED REIGN RELEASE LIVE EP, ANNOUNCE UPCOMING SHOW WITH METAL ALLEGIANCE AT NAMM

Red Reign will start the new year off right with two exciting announcements: an upcoming release of a live EP, while fans in the Anaheim, California area will soon get the opportunity to see the band live. On Thursday, January 22, 2026, Red Reign will be supporting Metal Allegiance at the House of Blues in Anaheim, California. 

"We are beyond excited to be a part of, the Metal Allegiance show," the band said. "Not only do we get to  perform in from of great musicians, but it will be our first time Red Reign will be on the west coast. We look forward to bringing our music to new listeners and have the experience of our lives."

Additionally, Red Reign will be attending the 2026 METAL HALL OF FAME at The Roxy in Los Angeles CA on Wednesday, January 21st, 2026. But before that, on Friday, January 16, 2026 will see the release of 'Live at Ardmore Music Hall,' which was recorded on April 30, 2025, when Red Reign supported LA Guns. "We wanted to capture our live, energetic, raw sound," the band explained. "In the studio, while recording songs, you feel compelled to make sure the song is perfect in a controlled setting. But live recording gives you a little more freedom to express the songs in a different manner."

Hailing from Virginia, Red Reign comprised of members singer/guitarist Carlton “Bubba” McMichael, guitarist Stevie Shred, bassist Larry Moore, and drummer Sammy Lee. The quartet takes 80’s rock influences but steers them in a more contemporary direction. LIGHTNING STRIKES Announce “Fear of Unknown” the First Video from their Upcoming Album 'The King Is Victorious' Due on February 18th

Today, the Los Angeles, CA based heavy metal outfit LIGHTNING STRIKES have released a music video called “Fear of Unknown” from their upcoming sophomore album ‘The King Is Victorious’, which is set for release on February 18th. “Fear of Unknown” video is now available to watch Below:

Karpis spoke about the single “Fear of Unknown”, ““Fear of Unknown” is about the fear that can cripple your mind and can take your capabilities away if you are week minded, something that you don’t see, but that fear lives in your head and reminds you that your life can end at any point. Your brain can’t calculate why you are scared and as soon as you are getting weak and useless then fear of unknown will take you away.”

 

Karpis continues, “It was written by me mid 2021. I recorded the drum tracks about that time, then Barry Sparks came into the project, he was very excited and energized to be part of the project, he even made a compliment and said it’s sounds like Black Sabbath and he will do some Geezer Butler style bass. The song was finalized in early 2025 after Norifumi Shima recorded his guitar track and added his signature guitar solo. Then Mariano Gardella completed the lyrics and recorded his dream vocals by giving the song a very unique prespective. Finally, let’s not forget about the maestro on the keyboard, Derek Sherinian who I have worked with previously on my 1st album, he also came into project and added his signature keyboard tracks and solo.”

The bulk of the album was recorded by Maksudian, a Japanese guitar virtuoso, Norifumi Shima (CONCERTO MOON), American bassist extraordinaire, Barry Sparks (MSG, Yngwie Malmsteen), and up-and-coming Argentinian vocalist, Mariano Gardella, with keyboard maestro, Derek Sherinian (BLACK COUNTRY COMMUNION, SONS OF APOLLO), who guested on the group's debut album, also making an appearance.

 

Originally formed in 1984, LIGHTNING STRIKES were the first metal band to feature an all Armenian-American line-up, well over a decade before the arrival of SYSTEM OF A DOWN. Co-founder Maksudian revived the name with new personnel a quarter century after the initial breakup recording the group's self-titled 2016 full-length debut with Brazilian vocalist Nando Fernandes (SINISTRA, HANGAR), the aforementioned Rob Math and Derek Sherinian, and former BLACK SABBATH vocalist, Tony Martin, who sang on and wrote the lyrics to 'Death Valley' and '301 AD Sins of Our Fathers'. Mixed by Roy Z, the album was well received and peaked on the Japanese Burrn! Magazine import charts at number 6.

The young Fables- 2026 - New Year, New Tour, New Record

We are pretty sure you are absolutely crushing your resolutions right about now and we are cheering you on from the sidelines! For us, 2026 has already come in fast. We kicked things off with a writer's retreat in Sedona, Arizona, navigated a brief health scare with Wes (he is doing well now), and started mapping out what feels like a really meaningful year ahead.

Tomorrow, we step into the studio to begin work on our fifth full length record with multi Grammy nominated engineer, mixer, and producer Bobby Holland. There is nothing quite like hearing songs come alive in a space built purely for creativity. The studio always feels a little more magical, and we are so eager to bring this next chapter to life.

From there, we are heading back to the Northeast for a run of shows we are truly excited about. These nights are already beginning to fill up, and we would love to see you out on the road with us.

ANTI-SAPIEN return with At the Mercy of the Merciless, a 22 minute blast of sewer-filthy death crust that captures the band in a moment of evolution and escalation. Written on the road and recorded at Growl House Studios for a January 16, 2026 release on Terminus Hate City, the record feels like the point where a pandemic side project that started as a joke has hardened into a focused, relentless, politically furious machine. The songs are still fun, still catchy, still gross and sweaty, but the riffing has become more intricate and the sense of purpose sharper, with the band leaning into real world themes, personal damage, and systemic rot without sacrificing the primal thrill of heavy music.

About ANTI-SAPIEN:

ANTI-SAPIEN formed in Brooklyn in 2021 and grew quickly from a loose pandemic experiment into a touring force known for filthy death crust riffs, sweat soaked shows, and a message that cuts through the noise. The band began as a way for friends to blow off steam and write ugly, fun songs that blended their love of D beat punk, death metal, grind, and the classic New York slam tradition. What surprised them was how quickly audiences connected to not only the heaviness but the honesty. Kids responded to the riffs but also to the moments between songs where the band spoke openly about inequality, exploitation, and the systems that grind people down. That connection pushed ANTI-SAPIEN to take the project further, tighten their sound, and hit the road hard across the United States and eventually through Australia, Korea, and Japan.

Over time the band’s lineup shifted into the current form of Blake Charlton, Alex Fewell, Ryan Murphy, and Nathan Rand, all seasoned musicians with long histories in heavy music. Their combined backgrounds in bands like Ramming Speed, Black Mass, Soul Remnants, and others helped shape the sound into something both raw and disciplined, equal parts crust punk grit and death metal precision. They have played festivals like NEDM Funtime Bonanza and the NYDM International Fest, building a reputation for fast sets, filthy tones, and a refusal to shy away from uncomfortable truths.

ANTI-SAPIEN operate with a clear sense of purpose. They are proudly anti fascist, openly political, and committed to calling out abuses of power while keeping their shows rooted in community and catharsis. The band writes music that is catchy and disgusting, equal parts sewer filth and adrenaline, and they deliver it with the conviction of people who believe heavy music can be fun while still saying something worth hearing. Audiences continue to grow each tour, fueled by the band’s willingness to merge riffs, rage, humor, and a perspective shaped by lived experience.

Out Now - VISERION - Fire & Blood

Exploring a wealth of fantastical literature through the bloodthirsty shroud of black metal, VISERION's forthcoming atmospheric album, Fire and Blood, is set to manifest in this realm on January 16th, 2026. The likes of ULTAR, 1349, SATYRICON, GATES OF ISHTAR are significantly influential in the construction of VISERION's creativity, as they delve heavily into the melodic across their discography. 

The title track opens the album with a more conventionally leaning black metal quality. It establishes the primary theme that bleeds through the release: "our concept for this album was inspired by George R.R. Martin’s Game of Thrones world. It particularly focuses on the Targaryen dynasty hence the title being their house words: Fire and Blood." The band explain further, "this particular song focuses on the black magic rituals that the Targaryen family was rumored to use in order to control dragons". The violent and aggressive tones emanate from the unyielding instrumentation and monstrous vocal delivery.

The use of non standard time signatures creates a sense of chaos and unease in the introduction to "Mad King". The instability of the arrangement is intentional as the song explores "the delusions and cruelty of King Aerys II as well as his demise". Aegon The Conqueror and his dragon Balerion are the focus of "Reign of Fire". VISERION's use of groove and melodies mark "Reign of Fire" as a standout track. "Blackfyre" tells of The Blackfyre Rebellions through a dark and rhythmic offering. The addition of keys enhances the track with further texture - "part of the production that stands out is the inclusion of keys recorded by our engineer Billy. These keys then sparked our mixer Chris to come up with the idea to use it as an outro".

Horror and anguish lie within the intense "Harrenhal". This composition of despair sees the lyrics portray "the horrifying destruction of Lord Harren’s fortress at the hands of Aegon the Conqueror and his dragon". In an enthralling display of unceasing power the intensity of the instrumentation is immense, only pausing to lament in eerie melodic moments.

About VISERION:
Located in Queens, NY, VISERION blend brutal and aggressive black metal with atmospheric and melodic passages in their own distinctive take on the genre. Storytelling is embedded in their musical creativity, highly influenced by the writings of George R.R. Martin and the World of Westeros. The band initially formed as a three-piece in 2020 by Ben Marvilli taking on bass and vocals, Matt Marvilli on drums and John Magnani performing guitars. Subsequently, in 2022, Magnani left and Ben Marvilli swapped out bass for guitar. Cris Valentine also joined on guitar and Tasso Diakov took on the bass. The debut album Natural Selection dropped in 2021, followed by a split EP release with TELOCH VOVIN titled The Iron Age of Kali Yuga in 2023. Now, Fire and Blood is set to emerge on January 16, 2026.

VRSTY Share New Single "heartbreak blues"

Genre-blending and bending New York City-based collective VRSTY (pronounced "Varsity") have shared their crackling new single "heartbreak blues."

The song features lyrics sung in both English and Spanish. It boasts unforgettable Latin flair, and vocal melodies that soar over a hissing breakdown. 

"'heartbreak blues' is probably one of the angriest yet most vulnerable songs I've written," says singer Joey Tyler. "It's essentially about the feeling of being angry over someone you were prepared to give the word to, while still feeling incredibly connected to them. Sometimes, it's harder to cut certain threads in life and I think this song perfectly hit that vibe for me."

He furthers, "Clearly, I've been through that a lot."

The singer also shares how the song also hits on another personal level, saying, "This is the first song where I naturally was like, 'What if this part was in Spanish?,' and it totally works. It was nice to combine my love for heavy music and my love for my culture on this one."

2026 is shaping up to be a massive year for VRSTY, with more new music on the way.

ABOUT VRSTY:
VRSTY (pronounced "Varsity") make music as energetic and richly diverse as the city that spawned them. Assembled by band leader Joey Varela, a Puerto Rican singer from New York City raised on R&B, pop, and Spanish music and equally inspired by metallic post-hardcore, VRSTY blend genres with fearless ambition and visceral enthusiasm. A handful of EPs preceded 2020's debut album, Welcome Home, itself followed by a three-part series of sequel EPs solidifying the band's reputation.  
 
VRSTY specialize in what Kerrang! described as "endless grooves and danceable parts, punctuated by breakdowns and completed with dark atmosphere." Meanwhile, "Massive," from 2020's Cloud City EP, remained the Most Played on SiriusXM's Octane for two consecutive weeks. In a 9/10 review, Outburn described Welcome Home as "effortless, fun, and above all genuine." Blabbermouth raved, "While other bands may have introduced the concept of genre-bending, VRSTY have refined it."
 
Levitate, the band's sophomore set, was powered by spirited conviction and a commitment to follow their muse wherever it leads. Tyler co-produced Levitate with Justin Deblieck (Ice Nine Kills, Motionless In White, Lorna Shore, Fit For A King).
