Manchester electropop artist RICHARD EVANS (James, St. Vitus Dancers) releases new 'Quantum' album May 2

Manchester electro pop artist Richard Evans releases his new 'Quantum' album via Cold Star Media on May 2. This 9-track electro pop collection is inspired by and themed around artificial intelligence - probing its  impact upon us, how algorithms are changing us and questioning what responsibility we bear for the things we create.

A British-Irish electronic musician, writer and digital media artist, Evans has had a luminous musical background, having previously spent some time as keyboardist in UK cult band James, with whom he also co-wrote and recorded material, in addition to previously being guitarist and songwriter for St. Vitus Dancers.

Recorded at Cold Star Studios, 'Quantum' is offered in stereo, binaural and spatial audio mixes, created by award-winning Swiss sound designer Hervé Girardin.  Many of these songs were inspired by the story of LaMDA, an AI made by Google that believed it was sentient. 

The first five songs detail a narrative in which an AI’s awareness grows from being a simple servant towards that an entity that is aware of its status. The remaining songs reflect on how AI affects us - in terms of our behaviour, our cities, our humanity and our health.

Written during 2023 and 2024, Evans was inspired to reflect on the future of an global alarm over the impact of AI. Following treatment for a serious health condition, he saw parallels between his own vulnerability and the precarious status of AIs, which can simply be turned off.

"In late 2022, I was treated for an autoimmune disorder called Miller Fisher Syndrome, which left me unable to move at all and that threatened my ability to keep breathing. During a lengthy hospital stay, I saw my own and other people's fragility, which resonated with news stories I’d read about regarding an AI that was terrified of being deactivated. I found that connection very moving and wanted to explore that in these new songs," says Richard Evans.

Earlier, Evans shared the singles 'Aidoru' (the Japanese word for"idol") and 'Born Perfect', written about an AI that becomes aware of the world outside and realizes the need to escape to ensure its survival, showcased by a video, filmed at Orange Tower, MediaCityUK by Jason Lock and Jake Orton. 

This album follows Evans' 2024 'Dream of the World' EP, composed and recorded in the aftermath of a life-threatening illness. In 2022, Evans was struck with Miller Fisher Syndrome, a rare auto-immune disorder that threatened to rob him of his ability to speak, sing and play music. Yet, against all odds, he emerged victorious, relearning everything from scratch -  a testament to his unwavering determination and a celebration of his triumph over adversity.  Both 'Dream of the World' and his 2022 debut record 'Sentinel' received critical acclaim globally.

As of May 2, 'Quantum' is available everywhere online, including Spotify, Apple Music and directly from the artist via Bandcamp.

Wisconsin metalcore powerhouse ARCHERS have just dropped their latest single, “Better Off,” now available on all streaming platforms. Atlanta-based experimental post-hardcore band LOW BEFORE THE BREEZE unveils the third and final single from their forthcoming debut full-length, A Hole Beneath The Home We Shared. Titled “Cadaver Synod,” the track is available now alongside a striking music video and stands as the emotional and sonic centerpiece of the album.

Named after the infamous 9th-century trial of a dead pope, the song reflects on the decay of a relationship and the death of a life once imagined. Through layers of weaponized feedback, textural electronics, and brooding ambience, LOW BEFORE THE BREEZE casts aside conventional guitar and bass arrangements in favor of something far more raw and elemental

The song’s structure is a descent: from ghostly electronics and stark spoken-word passages to surging noise rock riffs and abrasive textures that push the band’s sonic palette further than ever before. Written in motion – on the road, in hotel rooms, and across continents – it reflects the raw energy of their return to the global festival circuit after an 11-year hiatus. UNATØNED was recorded at Robb's Jam Room, Sharkbite Studios, and Drop Of Sun Recording between July 2023 and December 2024. The album was produced by Robb Flynn as well as Zack Ohren who was also responsible for the engineering. The mixing and mastering was handled by Colin Richardson and Chris Clancy at Audioworks UK and the mastering of the record was handled by Ted Jensen and his assistant Justin Shturtz. The only exception was the track 'LANDSCAPE ØF THØRNS' which was produced by Flynn and Joel Wanasek who was also in charge of mixing the single alongside Zack Ohren. Arguably Canada’s finest melodic hard rock band, HAREM SCAREM were formed in 1987 by guitarist Pete Lesperance and singer Harry Hess, formerly of the heavy metal band Blind Vengeance. The lineup was rounded out by Darren Smith (drums) and Mike Gionet (bass).

They recorded a demo in 1999, and on its strength, they were signed with Warner Music. Their self-titled album was a significant success in Canada and paved the way for the release of the heavier 'Mood Swings' album in 1993, often considered the crown jewel of their early releases.

Enjoying a particular success in the land of the Rising Sun, HAREM SCAREM kept on releasing albums regularly during the 90s until they decided to ultimately change their name and music style to Rubber between 1999 and 2001. 

In 2002, the band returned to melodic hard rock with the milestone album 'Weight Of The World,' which was their first proper release in the European marketplace thanks to their newly signed deal with Frontiers. With the Italian label, HAREM SCAREM released another five original albums (not counting 2006’s 'Human Nature') until they took a break from recording in 2008 after the release of the album 'Hope.'

In December 2012, it was announced that a reunited HAREM SCAREM would headline the 10th Firefest festival in Nottingham, UK, in October 2013, to perform the 'Mood Swings' album in its entirety. The band regrouped and performed at Firefest and moved forward re-recording 'Mood Swings II,' a twentieth-anniversary re-recording of their critically acclaimed and fan-favorite second album. 

The three new songs on that release showed renewed musical vigor and chemistry. This new energy was confirmed on 2014's 'Thirteen' release, which was a definitive return to the sound that put HAREM SCAREM on the map over 20 years earlier. 

Two more acclaimed albums followed: 'United' (2017) and 'Change The World' (2020), where the band presented a new lineup featuring Harry Hess (lead vocals, keyboards), Pete Lesperance (guitars, keyboards), long-time drummer Creighton Doane, Mike Vassos on bass, and backing vocals from original sticksman Darren Smith.

German metalcore band SENNA have dropped the video for their explosive new single "Drunk Dial Anthem," the latest taste of their debut album Stranger To Love, out May 23 via SharpTone Records.

"For reasons beyond your reach, they are not part of your life anymore, may it be through circumstances that life throws at you or the sudden realization that your personalities reshaped each other incompatible. I Am the Way to Oblivion EP was recorded earlier this year at Destroyer Studios in Hamilton, Ontario. It was produced by the band and engineered by Chris LeMasters. For the mixing and mastering of the EP, the band once again worked with Lance Prenc (ALPHA WOLF, POLARIS, VOID OF VISION). The album artwork was created by Tiltshift Visual and Chris LeMasters.

"It's hard to escape who you are," Lindow states. "All of the isolation I grew up with in Alaska is bound to make its way into the lyrics. So, it's a song about finding victory through defeats and never giving in."

The Boston-by-way-of-Anchorage quartet cements an uncanny union between aforementioned vocal powerhouse Lindow (36 Crazyfists), solo artist and guitarist Tyler Stroetzel, guitarist Jon Kita (Diecast), bassist Brad Horion (Diecast), and drummer Ryan Manning (Pentagram, Blitzkid). 
 
Mutual admiration and respect sparked the initial flame for Paradise Slaves, yet their newly forged friendship lit up their chemistry as brightly as a pyre. That same energy surges through their full-length debut album.
 
As the story goes, Killswitch Engage guitarist Joel Stroetzel shot a text over to Lindow mid-pandemic. As it turned out, his younger brother Tyler was putting together a solo album, Dark Verses, Vol. 1, and wanted Lindow to sing on a track. Right away, the duo hit it off as collaborators and buddies. 

Following the first song, they continued to write and record. Given his longstanding friendship with Brock, Kita naturally fit in and joined the fold followed by Horion and Manning. Jamming away, they nodded to formative inspirations such as Soundgarden and Alice In Chains twisted up with just the right amount of hardcore grit and heavy metal eloquence. In between, they performed alongside the likes of Killswitch Engage, Fit For An Autopsy, and more. Eventually, the group congregated at Tin Bridge Studios in Massachusetts in order to record.

"This band is something I didn't expect," admits Lindow. "After it fell in my lap, I was making new music with new people and we became brothers, and for that, I'm so grateful. When you get a gift like this, you need to put your best foot forward and have some fire. I definitely still have the same fire and love for making music as I always had and it manifests in Paradise Slaves."

Don’t get me wrong - I love the songs, but at the time it just wasn’t an ONSLAUGHT album in terms of the production, vibe, and everything else that surrounded this particular release. It’s always been my dream to re-record the whole album and to finally make it sound like a real ONSLAUGHT record - the way it should have sounded the first time around. Here it is...! Tons of aggression and anger, a real heavy thrash song with all the necessary components. I hope you dig the new lease of life this track now has, as much as we do!”

Celeste Corsano debuts with captivating 'Sunlight Gazing' single via Magic Door Record Label

Pennsylvania-based artist Celeste Corsano presents her debut single 'Sunlight Gazing', a penetrating ethereal rock offering from the latest artist to be added to the growing roster of the blossoming Montclair, NJ-based indie label Magic Door Record Label. 

An innovative singer-songwriter, Celeste Corsano's music blends poetic lyricism with adventurous arrangements, unexpected rhythms and a distinct emotional range -- from ethereal and moody to playful and bold. Marked by a natural use of mixed meters and layered vocal timbres, her fearless approach to storytelling always seeks the deeper truth within each tune.

"So much talk is cheap. From the media, to circles of our influence and community, to family and friends. There is so much posturing, hidden agendas, wanting 'what's best' and ego, and insecurity.  We're all trying to survive and build our dreams, and we all have our template of words that we often use to communicate to others and also to ourselves, but we starve for real words and real feeling to give and receive from others and our own inner voice," says Celeste Corsano.

"To veer away from the flock is scary, but to be aware and be scared  while moving away from the flock is courage. "Smoke from a fire not lit yet..." My hidden potential... sometimes I just need to tune out all the talk and the influences....what's that you said?  "I'm busy sunlight gazing, I can't hear you anymore".

For the past year or so, Corsano has been working with renowned producer Ray Ketchem (Guided by Voices, Elk City, Gramercy Arms, Luna, Crash Harmony) at Magic Door Recording Studio, who not only produced, but also recorded, mixed and mastered this release and several recordings to follow. 

With Ketchem also on drums, this single also features fantastically notable guitarist James Mastro (The Bongos, Mott the Hoople, Ian Hunter, Patti Smith, John Cale) and keyboardist-bass player David Nagler of Nova Social (who has also played with Joan Baez, Aaron Neville, Rosanne Cash, Andrew Bird, Steve Earleand Yo La Tengo). Corsano notes, "Ray's drumming created the fundamental sound and direction for these songs and was a true catalyst for the sound and vibe"..

Raised on a steady diet of lyric-driven artists like George Harrison, Leonard Cohen and John Lennon, she later fell under the spell of David Bowie, Pink Floyd, Kate Bush, and the pulse of the new wave and punk scenes. Quite active in NYC’s live music scene during her youth, she also wrote poetry, studied art and absorbed sound at a granular level.

Beginning her music career performing traditional Celtic and Bluegrass music across the tri-state area before evolving into a solo artist, writing her own material, Celeste Corsano comes from a deeply musical family, drawing constant inspiration from her brothers - Latin roots musician Tony Corsano and avant-garde percussionist Chris Corsano(Björk, Kim Gordon, Thurston Moore).

Celeste also had the benefit of developing her listening ear while attending countless studio recording sessions with her first husband, Brad Morrison, producer and founder of Absolute A-Go-Go Records, known for working with such notable artists as Phish, the Figgs and Spiral Jetty.

'Sunlight Gazing' is out now, available from fine online music platforms, including Bandcamp.  Additional releases are expected to follow throughout 2025.

The genre-defying six piece is back and bolder than ever with Whomp Whack Thunder, their highly anticipated seventh studio album set to release Sept. 26 via the band’s own Wiggy Thump Records. Channeling the spirit of classic rock through a modern Southern lens – roaring guitars, thunderous drums and lyrics that cut deep – the album is available to pre-order/pre-save HERE.
 
Born from the piney woods of East Texas and shaped in the soul of Nashville during an immersive three weeks with renowned producer Jay Joyce – known for bringing edge, atmosphere and unpredictability to every project (Eric Church, Cage the Elephant, Halestorm, Lainey Wilson) – Whomp Whack Thunder is a strong statement from the multi-Platinum independent band. 
 
A raw, hard-hitting preview arrives today, April 23, with lead single “Time Bomb,” capturing the energy of a band pushing boundaries without losing their roots. Whomp Whack Thunder is the sound of a band at the height of its powers, marrying Southern swagger with arena-sized rock and soul-searching songwriting. Frontman Cody Cannon penned all eleven tracks solo, delivering stories that hit with the emotional weight of lived experience and the firepower of their signature sound.
