FEARLESS RECORDS is beyond pleased to welcome Florida rock band THE REQUIEM to its global roster.

To celebrate the new partnership between label and band, The Requiem are sharing not one but TWO singles today!

First up is "Diary of Mashochist," which is a full-on rager. Kicking off with blood-curdling screams and heavy artillery riffing before shifting into melodic high gear, The Requiem pepper their song with unexpected and dramatic flourishes and nuances throughout. It's an epic and cinematic thrill ride from back to front. 

The band shares, "Mostly inspired by the legend Elizabeth Bathory, 'Diary Of A Masochist' speaks of someone who despises the skin they live in and does anything possible to change the way they see themselves, no matter how self-destructive or wrong it may be."

"I'll Be Late For My Funeral" is an energetic amalgam of '00s main stage Warped Tour, Neo-goth, and classic emo, with a twist all its own and without ever sounding too much like the past. Stormy guitars and layered harmonies give the song an extra dose of horsepower.

"'I'll Be Late For My Funeral' is a song that tries to convey the feeling of someone who has been fighting against themselves their entire life," the band explains. "The title reflects the sentiment that some of us wouldn't even show up for ourselves at our own funerals from the bad habit of always running away."

THE VELDT releases ‘Aurora Borealis’ single from original never-released Robin Guthrie-produced album

Pioneering shoegazers The Veldt present their new single 'Aurora Borealis', the original 1989 version produced by Cocteau Twins' Robin Guthrie, which also sees Elizabeth Fraser make a cameo appearance on backing vocals towards the end. Complementary to this A-side is the B-side remix of this song, created by The Veldt around the turn of the century.

This is the second taste of their 'Illuminated 1989' album, which Guthrie produced in autumn 1989 and subsequently remastered in 2023. While this record was intended to be the band's first album, their label Capitol Records shelved the recording (resulting in the debut album now known to us as 'Marigolds' being produced by Lincoln Fong of Moose).

The lead track 'The Everlasting Gobstopper' was also offered on vinyl with B-side  'Joshuu Lullaby', a previously unreleased vinyl exclusive, produced by Robin Guthrie in 2023. The accompanying video was produced by Jammi York and the late Yuko Sueta.

One of the most notable first-wave shoegaze bands, formed in North Carolina in the 1980s, The Veldt surrounds identical twins Daniel Chavis (vocals, guitar) and Danny Chavis (guitar). Their unique sound was influenced by Cocteau Twins as readily as Marvin Gaye and free-jazz warriors Sun Ra and Pharaoh Sanders. Referencing European post-punk while embracing modern hip-hop, these trailblazers work with transient dreamscapes as fluidly as solid song structures.
 
Pitchfork included The Veldt's album 'Afrodisiac', produced by the legendary Ray Shulman (The Sundays, Bjork, The Sugarcubes) and released via Mercury Records, in the top 50 shoegaze albums ever released, while Stereogum included ‘Until You’re Forever’ in the top 31 shoegaze tracks. Their sound also inspired future generations of alternative artists, including TV On the Radio.

"This song is about my brother's love for his newborn daughter. Written out of high school and dug out around the time the band had started to get noticed. We had written so many, but it was one of the newest pieces that we had begun experimenting. This would signal our departure from being a band that made people dance to a band that made people confused. 'The Everlasting Gobbstopper' came shortly thereafter and was being finished," says Daniel Chavis.

Danny Chavis adds, "This song was written in 1986 and was included in the first batch of songs we demoed under the name VELDT. Having heard 'Treasure' by Cocteau Twins, this song was inspired by that very album and RUN DMC’s 'Sucker MC’s' around the same time that year."

The Veldt's journey is fascinating. Performing since they were children, the Chavis brothers’ musical roots lead back to the church and southern juke-joints, and listening to music that included gospel, Motown and Pink Floyd. The Veldt formed in the late 80’s in Raleigh amongst the legendary North Carolina music scene of the time, initially signing with Mammoth Records - leading to a chain of major-label relationships that took the group across Europe and the U.S. playing shows with the likes of Throwing Muses, Pixies, Cocteau Twins and Jesus & Mary Chain.

After moving from Raleigh to New York, they briefly performed as Apollo Heightsbefore returning to their original name The Veldt. Joined by Japanese bassist-programmer Hayato Nakao, they together forging music that is a heady and sensual blend of shoegaze and progressive soul, dreamy soundscapes and infectious grooves. Some of the band's recent notable releases include 'The Shocking Fuzz Of Your Electric Fur' EP (2017) and the album 'Entropy is the Mainline to God' (2022).
 
Over the years, The Veldt has collaborated with TV On The Radio, Mos Def, Lady Miss Kier (Deee-Lite), A.R.Kane and toured or played with Brian Jonestown Massacre, The Pixies, Throwing Muses, Echo & The Bunnymen, Cocteau Twins, Manic Street Preachers, Phantogram, Modern English, The Jesus and Mary Chain, Oasis, Chuck D, Living Colour and Schooly D.

As of September 1, 'Aurora Borealis' is available everywhere, including Apple Music, Spotify and Bandcamp. Later in autumn, the 'Illuminated 1989' album will be released on vinyl, CD, cassette and digitally via Portland-based Little Cloud Records and 5BC Records.

The Veldt performs next at the Noir Bizarre festival, a free event that involves appearances at The Grey Eagle in Asheville, NC on September 4 and at the VAE Raleigh space on September 8-9, along with Dead Leaf Echo, Candy Coffins, The Mystery Plan, Knives and Daggers, Honeychild Coleman, Micah Gaugh Trio, Lazaris Pit, Origami Phase, Stray Owls, Canary Complex, Flood District, Spirit System, The Action Group, Dead Cool and Dark Red.

CAVO Releases New EP "The Shakes" via TLG/INgrooves

CAVO released The Shakes EP to all major platforms via TLG/INgrooves today, September 1, 2023. When asked about The Shakes EP, Andy Herrin says, “A lot of these songs for The Shakes EP had been sitting unfinished for a few years. We were writing like crazy back then and it’s been amazing finally getting these songs finished and giving them a proper release. Kinda feels like the story of this certain time period of CAVO has finally been told.”

The final song to be released from the EP is titled "Feel The Same." Casey Walker says, "This song was really important to me. It’s basically a letter to my younger self. Growing up and getting the chance to look back in reflection is such a powerful gift. It’s kind of a reminder going forward that every moment and choice brings it’s own consequences and rewards. This song is really a reminder to myself that every choice, good or bad, has lead me to this point in my life, and now that I have kids who are starting to make choices for themselves, I just want to remind myself to create an environment where they are free and safe to succeed or fail, and I’ll love them either way no matter what."

The creative force of Rock/Alternative from St. Louis is still creating and releasing new music. Humble beginnings to major label success to where they are now seems like a whirlwind but a lot of bands find themselves in these spaces. Bassist Brian Smith says “We are still a band releasing music we want to release and we hope people dig what we are doing”. Drummer Andy Herrin adds, “Every EP or record we do won’t be like one previously released and we have a lot of music to share and create." “The great thing about the four of us in Cavo is that we’ve always been fully committed to this band,” explains bassist Brian Smith. “Even if we haven’t been in a spotlight for a bit and we have other projects going on, our bond is as tight as ever, and we’ve never stopped releasing music. We love writing together, playing together and just being together as friends, and that’s why we’ve been able to keep going together as long as we have.”

Cavo has teamed up with independent distributor TLG/INgrooves to expose all of these new crafted songs to a broader global audience. The band has released several songs from the first of 6 planned EPs, 3 original and 3 cover EPs. The first original EP is titled The Shakes with songs “Not Over You”, "Dizzy" and the self-titled track “The Shakes” being released on September 1st and “Synchronicity II” and “Drive” from the bands CAVO Covers vol.1. to be released on August 4th. Casey states “We are almost finished with our second original EP and after that we start work on the second covers EP." RED REIGN DROPS SECOND SINGLE AND VIDEO FOR “HERE I AM” FROM THEIR FORTHCOMING ALBUM 'DON’T LOOK BACK'

Richmond, VA-based rockers Red Reign take 80’s influences and steer them in a more contemporary direction – bridging the sounds of yesterday and today. Naeon Teardrops - debut album 'Testimony'

N∆EON TE∆RDROPS is a new artist alias from Norwegian techno and electronica veteran Per Martinsen, mostly known under his Norwegian Grammy-awarded guise MENTAL OVERDRIVE. 

Stepping out of his familiar instrumental electronic productions and into vocal-based songwriting, N∆EON TE∆RDROPS explore influences of the synthpop and darkwave of his formative years, while aiming to put these influences into a more contemporary context. 

The music of N∆EON TE∆RDROPS was born out of his writing project PYRAMIDS ON THE MOON – a fictional autobiography in three parts where he explores three alternative timelines of his own life, and where each of his three imagined personalities create music under different artist aliases.

N∆EON TE∆RDROPS released the single AMNESIACS in 2021, reaching no 8 in the Deutsche Alternative Charts, followed by SHADOWSISTER in 2022, which reached no 12 in the same chart.

The latest two singles, WATERS RISING and OUTBOUND, released in March and May 2023, both entered the DAC chart and also stayed the maximum of 10 weeks in the Indie Disko Top 40 chart, peaking at no 20 and no 21 respectively.

The debut album TESTIMONY is now ready for release, and contains 10 tracks that catch up on the influences of thirty years of electronic music, flirting with alternative electropop, echoes of eighties darkwave, breakbeat-fuelled nineties power-ballads and noughties electronica – all brought to life with a 2023 twist.

TESTIMONY will be released through Love OD Communications on September 8th 2023, and will also be available on vinyl and CD through Apollon Records.

PYRAMIDS ON THE MOON is still an ongoing project. For as much as singer/songwriter/guitarist Tim Montana may be known as a wild man (and he certainly is), he really asserts himself as a tried-and-true storyteller with his new single "Devil You Know." He has shared the video today. Watch it below.

The song finds Montana exploring his moody, rock 'n' roll roots, as the song is propelled forward by the high-octane riffs that introduce the song's gritty and emotionally crackling and lyrically raw chorus. New Jersey art-rock collective Elk City present 'Tried To Move On', the second taste of 'Undertow', the band's seventh album to date. This follows the voluminous consciousness-building lead track 'Strong (You're Not Alone)', a swirling neo-psychedelic folk song baked in cult obsessiveness.

Founded by Renée LoBue and Ray Ketchem, Elk City is brilliantly rounded out by Luna’s Sean Eden, Richard Baluyut (Versus) and Chris Robertson (Psychedelic Furs side project Feed, Punch Havana).

Ketchem, a renowned producer (Guided By Voices, Luna, Gramercy Arms)recorded, mixed and mastered the 'Undertow' album, which will be released via Montclair, NJ-based Magic Door Record Label, co-founded several years ago by Guided by Voices' Kevin March, Ketchem and artist Renée LoBue.

“'Tried to Move On' finds the band following our pop tendencies. The song is perfect for the end of summer, while the weather is still inviting outside. Close and intimate during the verses and chorus, the song opens up in the middle with a triumphant instrumental section," explains Ray Ketchem.  

"In the production, I used small, close sounds to create the rhythm track. I recorded the sound of various metal objects, such as music and microphone stands, and then manipulated the audio. The songs feature one of my favorite lyrics, “the hours turn into weeks, turn into years”.

Renée LoBue adds, "A boomerang of a breezy pop song that slides into your DMs to say, "Hi, you're living in denial." Wearing pastels and beaming. Bursting with... Joy? Anger? It’s “All Gucci” as the kids say, until the chorus barrels through, morphing into a different song that's not on the guest list. You're left in a whirlpool of self-created confusion. But I do like whirlpools because they remind me of jacuzzis and any correlation between our band and jacuzzis satisfies me to pieces. People put up with hunks of BS because fooling themselves is easier than walking an unknown path. Walk your unknown path. But keep your jacuzzi."

Like their sixth album 'Above the Water', this record is inspired by the band’s love of documentaries like 'The Source Family' and 'Wild, Wild Country' - films that explore the allure of cults and extreme alternative lifestyles.

From the opening title track, 'Undertow' sucks you into a different kind of record with peculiar pop constructs built of rare materials, found only in the wilds behind Magic Door Recording Studio in Montclair, which legendary studio designer George Augspurger helped transform into a freeform studio where vintage microphones, modern studio gear, and bespoke sound tuning elevate and inspire.

This is where Elk City has meticulously built this record and this band a whole other way. Even after seven albums, Elk City are still deliberately hard to define, still seekers, unafraid to shed this life and lead the listener on a journey to new sounds and feelings... Welcome to Elk City.
