On June 2, Omnium Gatherum will release their new Slasher EP via Century Media Records.
Today, the band has shared its thoroughly metallic cover of the classic '80s dance pop anthem "Maniac" from the Flashdance film.

Kansas City Melodic Hard Rock Outfit MCHNZ Release New Single “Gravity” via Earache Records

MCHNZ is a melodic hard rock project consisting of frontman, singer/songwriter, Eric Tomes (formerly of Awaiting Eli), guitarist Nic Trotter (formerly of Sidewise and Leo Project), and bassist Carlos Garcia (formerly of Awaiting Eli and OTEP).

These powerhouse musicians have the makings of a Rock juggernaut, with a crushing musical style that gives an ode to alternative music torchbearers like Bring Me The Horizon, Nothing More, I Prevail, and Architects. They capture a unique sound steeped in anthemic choruses, blasting guitar riffs, and electronic pop melodies.

Their new single “Gravity" marks the first official release via Earache Records, one of the longest running and most well known rock and metal record labels in the world. "Gravity" is from the band's upcoming debut album We Are Machines (set to come out late 2023), which was produced by Billboard chart-topping producer Chris Dawson (Seasons After, Saul, GEARS, Shallow Side, Any Given Sin) and mastered by veteran engineer Mike Kalajian.

The group has performed alongside a wide array of artists like Rob Zombie, Shinedown, Papa Roach, Tech N9ne, Killswitch Engage, All That Remains, Trivium, Nonpoint, Puddle of Mudd, Saliva, Tantric, and many more. One of the most captivating bands in pagan metal, the adherents of heathen temple ARKONA, have finally announced the upcoming release of their eerie, captivating ninth studio album, Kob’, out June 16, 2023 via Napalm Records. Pagan metal leaders ARKONA return after five years with intriguing Kob’!

Preparing listeners for the first step into the abyss, the album opener “Izrechenie. Nachalo” (ENG: The Speech. The Beginning) gently takes the listener’s hand, leading them into trancelike realms of ominous whispers and murmuring voices - a recurring motif on the album. Dominated by rhythmic synths and a catchy bassline, “Ugasaya” (ENG: Fadin’ Away) represents the modern era of ARKONA’s pagan roots, as well as the great diversity in their music.

Although Kob’ is dedicated to pagan metal, “Mor”, one of the album’s longest tracks, leans towards black metal - forming the most epic hymn on the album. Not only articulating through lyrics, Masha also sets the tone with her keyboard solo on the emotional “Razryvaya plot' ot bezyskhodnosti bytiya” (ENG: Tearing the flesh owing to the despair of being). While society digs its own grave through wars, religious beliefs and environmental problems, pensive wind instruments and acoustic guitar interludes transform the aggression of deep low growls and fast-paced guitar shredding.

Closing the album with the world’s absolute apocalypse on “Izrechenie. Iskhod” (ENG: The Speech. The Conclusion), Kob’ is deeply rooted in pagan metal stylings of the old days, but offers a modern spirit via its production and variety alike.

Fans joined the high-energy entertainer in downtown Nashville last night for a pop-up show and live stream at Ole Red in partnership with Circle. Comprised of four seasoned Rocky Mountain Road Dogs (members of Call of the Void, Green Druid, Abrams, Muscle Beach), NIGHT FISHINGexist to explore the boundaries of improvisation, mood and structure within the realms of heavy, instrumental sound. Today, they’re revealing the music video for “Alone With My Thoughts,” the record’s second single.

Across three tracks and 25+ minutes of fuzzed-out Heavy Psych, hypnotic Krautrock and free-form jazz, NIGHT FISHING seamlessly weave together a melting pot of brain-liquifying sonic euphoria. Drummer Gordon Koch, who also created the album’s trippy artwork via Artificial Intelligence, commented on how the project came together:

“NIGHT FISHING is a Heavy Psych/Krautrock improv concept I mulled over during the lockdown period of the initial COVID-19 outbreak. My longtime touring metal band (Call of the Void) had just broken up (December 2019) and my jazz connection had moved out of state so I had no musical prospects while I was held up in my apartment. I wanted to combine elements of improv jazz into a rock format using light song structure to allow for more natural flow of solos, giving each player room to breathe and express themselves. Once the city opened back up a little bit I hit the pavement looking for players. I found 3 friends from the Denver metal scene who were looking for something different and could handle the riffage!

“This EP was recorded live, as both an audio and visual experience, by Chris McNaughton at Rocky Mountain Recorders. We sat in the round with a full camera crew in the studio, led by Alex Pace, to capture the moment and energy, bouncing solos off each other all in one take. I feel like these first songs are a more "live" experience so I wanted the video crew there to allow everyone to join us. We were mostly familiar with all the hits but use a lot of eye contact and musical cues to move things along. This session was a BLAST to record, I think about 4 hours total in the room.”

He elaborated further on their second single “Alone With My Thoughts”, saying:

“This was our first song written as a group that took the NIGHT FISHING idea to fruition. Once we played it live in front of people we knew we had a great formula to expand on.”

'Live Bait' will see an April 21st release on tape, CD and digital formats.

BRODEQUIN Re-Issues All Three Full-Lengths via Season of Mist

Brutal death metal outfit BRODEQUIN will be reissuing all three of its full-length records on LP and CD format via Season of Mist! The trilogy of ‘Instruments of Torture’ (2000), ‘Festival of Death’ (2001), and ‘Methods of Execution’ (2004) is a cohesive collection of the relentless, neck breaking brutality that define the Tennessean’s vicious sound. The Brodequin was a French torture instrument used during the Middle Ages designed to destroy the legs of its victims. Enough ferocity was unleashed to not only shatter bone, but reduce the limbs to the point where the marrow would flow from the wounds.

Taking inspiration from this period in history three individuals from Knoxville, TN began composing music based off what was the most brutal of times. Brodequin chose and still uses period woodcuts and simple imagery from the era as a nod to its historical influence and as a way to demonstrate barbarity without the need for generic splatter illustrations that lack substance. This imagery would prove an important aspect of creating the bands unique brand among their peers and Brodequin’s version of brutal death metal. Brodequin is often cited as the band that pioneered the lyrical and visual themes of medieval punishment and torture used by many contemporary bands.

Brodequin’s first offering in 1998 “Instruments of Torture” made an immediate impact on the brutal death metal scene and was followed by another well received album entitled “Festival of Death”. For Brodequin’s third album “Methods of Execution” a new member (Jon Engman) was introduced and their first European appearances took place at Fuck the Commerce (Germany) and Obscene Extreme (Czech Republic). 

After a considerable hiatus Brodequin returned with a 2 song promo released in 2021 entitled “Perpetuation of Suffering”, featuring two of the three original members (Jamie & Mike Bailey) with a new drummer (Brennan Shackelford). With the lineup complete, Brodequin’s new material is among the best they have ever written. Plans are set for a 2023 release through Season of Mist Records.

New York City has always served as a cultural epicenter for musical innovation. Even more so than incubating genres in their infancy such as hardcore and even glam metal, for which bands like Twisted Sister and KISS long set the stage before the Sunset Strip took the reigns, the empire state has a storied and unique history of taking genres whose roots lie elsewhere and making them its own; whether it be Anthrax reinventing Bay Area thrash, Suffocation and Immolation planting their flag as death metal purveyors at a time when it was a primary export of Florida, or bands like Blondie and the Ramones rivaling the British punk scene, the city has always been at the forefront of musical excellence. And when it comes to New York’s answer to black metal, Black Anvil have not only been a driving force for USBM, but have taken the black metal genre as a whole and made it entirely their own. Now, with full-length number five, the band has once again leveled up their game, presenting a “regenesis” of black metal.

Here you have 12 tracks of unrelenting yet thought provoking evil, sure to have you take a second & thoroughly re-examined view of what you thought black metal was supposed to be. “This is a more stripped down and aggressive song writing approach. Having time to digest ‘As Was,’ to understand where we were then versus where we are now was key. We always focus inward with our writing, never wanting to repeat ourselves, while also not losing our identity in a stretch to sound different,” explains Black Anvil bassist/vocalist P.

Challenging the norm has always been a core part of Black Anvil’s DNA since their formation in 2007. Upon the release of their debut full-length, Time Insults the Mind, the band quickly garnered the attention of Relapse Records and were presented with a deal. When it came to album number two, the band diverged from the typical approach of their contemporaries and sought an unlikely counterpart to render their vision, tapping engineer “General” George Fullan (The Rolling Stones, Dream Theater) at Mark “The Animal” Mendoza’s (Twisted Sister) Diamond Drop Studio on Long Island, NY. Released in September 2010, sophomore offering Triumvirate received much critical acclaim, notably being revered as an "all-around monster metal album."

Four years after its release, Triumvirate was followed by Hail Death, a 70-minute journey of intensity that further established Black Anvil as a modern black metal powerhouse. The album was met with praise by publications including Noisey, Pitchfork, Stereogum, Metal Injection, and many more. With the album’s success, the band’s profile rose as they were tapped to participate in numerous prominent tours with black metal legends such as Mayhem, Watain, Urfaust, Marduk as well as dates with Aura Noir, Nachtmystium, Immortal, Eyehategod, Cannibal Corpse, etc. Additionally, the band has appeared at various prestigious festivals including the Scion Rock Fest, Beyond The Gates in Bergen, Norway and the renowned Roadburn Festival in The Netherlands.

In 2017, Black Anvil dropped their fourth studio-album, As Was. Atmospheric and melodic without relenting on any of the ferocity that the collective has always been known for, As Was seamlessly weaves through eight monumental passages of extreme metal art, more diverse, complex, and thought-provoking than anything they've done before. The record proved itself to be a stellar representation of modern black metal and of Black Anvil’s continuous progression and songcraft.

Now, nearly six years after As Was made its mark, Black Anvil is returning with its aptly titled fifth full-length, Regenesis. With a new record label, a new album, and a newfound exploration of dark and black metal, Regenesisrepresents a new dawn for the New York City collective. “The concept is renewal, as well as the process/journey to get here outgrowing our past,” explains P. “Black Anvil has always been a departure from our past, a vehicle for us to grow as individuals, like a snake constantly shedding its skin. We don’t look  back, but never forget.”

Make no mistake, Regenesis is not a departure from Black Anvil’s identity, but rather serves as the latest progression in the band’s ever-evolving sound. The record takes what As Was did best and does it even better. The unrelenting and polished aggression hangs in the balance above dark melodic passages, presenting a dynamic soundscape that serves as the band’s most devastating and existential offering to date. As it’s evident that the band pulls inspiration from unlikely corners, they defy all genre standards and make one thing clear - this isn’t just black metal, this is NYBM.

THE GUESS WHO IS SET TO RELEASE ITS NEW STUDIO ALBUM, PLEIN D‘AMOUR, ON JUNE 30, THROUGH DEKO ENTERTAINMENT

The Guess Who is a legendary Canadian band who enjoyed chart-topping hits in the late 60s and early 70s with an impressive catalogue of songs including "American Woman," "These Eyes," and "No Time." During the course of its career, the band has released 11 studio albums, all of which charted in Canada and the United States. The Guess Who is best known internationally for its 1970 album, American Woman, which hit number one in Canada and number nine in the United States, with five other albums also hitting the top ten in Canada.  All in all, the Guess Who boasts 14 top-40 singles in the United States and more than 30 in Canada.

The band released its first single The King on February 10 and it immediately landed on multiple Spotify playlists racking up over 50,000 streams, making it the highest new release in the band’s history. The band is now gearing up to release its latest creation, Plein D’Amour. Band members Derek Sharp, Michael Staertow, Leonard Shaw, Michael Devin, and founding member, Garry Peterson have crafted a collection of songs that raises the bar and continues to take it up a notch both musically and sonically. Artwork for the release is provided by world renowned graphic designer Ioannis (Deep Purple, Allman Brothers Band, Led Zeppelin, etc.) with limited prints to be autographed by both the Guess Who and Ioannis. The album Plein D’Amour was recorded at Villa Sound in Singhampton, Ontario, Canada, with Adam Fair, featuring other stand out tracks such as “Headline” and “Across the Line”.

TEETH - RELEASE MUSIC VIDEO FOR SECOND SINGLE "HATE ME" + ANNOUNCE NEW EP A BIBLICAL WORSHIP OF VIOLENCE

Born from a musician’s desire to re-envelope their life in the heaviness that is metal and to refamiliarize with a conduit that could be considered detrimental amidst today’s destructive society, the gritty powerhouse that is Ontario, Canada hardcore/metal quartet TEETHemerged from the sludge of a foul generation.  

Resolved to utilize the carcasses of their conquered demons as fodder for a new euphonious weapon, TEETH wanted to create the most ignorant, aggressive-sounding music imaginable. Their latest offering A Biblical Worship Of Violence will be unleashed digitally on May 5th and on vinyl on July 21st via Nuclear Blast Records.
 

The band states, "A Biblical Worship Of Violence is our ode to the ache of change - a snapshot of a moment in time where we were all going through dark shifts in our personal lives that forced us to see life through the lens of true pain and discomfort. We knew we needed to create something so visceral and honest to articulate what we’d been going through while also giving us the opportunity to speak on the state of this world. Division, compulsion - an intrinsic gravitational pull toward cruelty and brutality. ABWOV is a commentary on human beings darkest, most volatile conventions."

Today the band release the second single "Hate Me" from the upcoming EP. The music video was shot and directed by the band while Matthew Daly at Clearway Media handled the editing.

TEETH comments on the single, "'Hate Me' is about watching the people around you - whether it's your peers, family/loved ones, colleagues - self-destruct over petulant nonsense. Watching a marriage or friendship crumble over disagreements when both parties are too blinded by our inherent attraction to turmoil to see the pettiness of it all. It's about how we - as humans - are so viscerally unwilling to budge in our cemented beliefs and beholden to our egos that we'd rather just let the house burn down to prove our point. I THINK THERE'S FIRE IN THESE WALLS."

A Biblical Worship of Violence was recorded in the Fall of 2020 at Bell Tower Studios. Davis Maxwell and the band were responsible for producing and engineering the record while Lance Prenc handled mixing and mastering. This time around the band enlisted Heavy Sleeper Co to create the album artwork and layout.

Texas troubadour George Strait has announced a two-night-only event in his home state, with back-to-back concerts set for Friday, November 17 and Saturday, November 18, 2023 at Fort Worth’s Dickies Arena. The King of Country Music will be joined by special guest Caitlyn Smith for both dates.
 
The two-night stand is a reprise of Strait’s two nights at Dickies Arena in 2022, which both sold out within hours of going on sale to the public. Tickets to the 2023 shows go on sale to the general public Friday, April 14 at 10 a.m. CT via Ticketmaster.com. American Express® Card Members can purchase tickets before the general public beginning Tuesday, April 11 at 10 a.m. CT through Thursday, April 13 at 10 p.m. CT.

The news follows the recent announcement that Strait will team up with Chris Stapleton to perform one-off stadium dates this year in Phoenix, Seattle, Denver, Milwaukee, Nashville (two nights) and Tampa. Joining the King of Country and Stapleton for all dates are special guests Little Big Town.

DEFILED comments, "The small, claustrophobic room in this video may remind you of Room 101 in the movie '1984.' If so, you are right. Haven't you ever felt that since Covid, the world has become more and more surveillance oriented and peer pressure driven? We made this song to capture the update in the world. However, it is not a specific condemnation of any particular country or group. We deliberately try to construct a perspective that is abstract and metaphorical. The themes we deal with are heavy and dark, and they are filled with our own irony. But we hope the world will become a better place. We hope you enjoy the video."

When it comes to straight-forward, bone-crushing death metal, Tokyo’s DEFILED delivers! ‘The Highest Level’ stays true to the traditional death metal formula, while the band’s gritty songwriting approach lends to its authenticity. DEFILED attempts to make no frills with this new full-length, instead speaking directly to the sensibility of old school death metal fanatics who are simply looking for some face-melting violence!

The early 90s was a crucial and formative time for death metal, a genre that started to predominantly emerge in the west with bands like Decide, Cannibal Corpse, Autopsy, Obituary, and Morbid Angel having a stronghold on America while Entombed, Cadaver, Carcass, and many others started to make waves in Europe and the U.K. But across the vast Pacific Ocean, DEFILED was taking a cue from its peers and became one of Asia’s leading purveyors during the genre’s early inception.

Upon releasing a series of demos and EPs during the mid-90s, the Japanese powerhouse finally released its first full-length, ‘Erupted Wrath,’ via Nightfall Records. Upon its release, the band broke out of Asia and started to make its debut in America across the extreme metal fest circuit – performing twice at Milwaukee Metal Fest as well as appearing at November to Dismember in Texas.

The band kept busy during the turn of the century while continuing to build their profile and dominate metal audiences around the globe and by 2003, they formed a union with Season of Mist, where the band has become one of the label’s most consistent death metal mainstays. Since then, the band has released six full-length albums, the majority of which are under the Season of Mist banner.

As the band celebrates thirty years since its legacy was formed, they are ready to unleash another pummelling offering onto the masses. ‘The Highest Level’ still carries the same time-tested formula that Defiled established three decades ago, remaining true to their identity, and still carrying the torch as one of the genre’s founding fathers.
