A CLOUD OF RAVENS brooding 'Parable' video previews 'Lost Hymns' LP (out April 28).

“Their sound, though inspired by bands of their youth, is not rooted stubbornly in the past - their music feels of this time, with their messages transversing the cosmos” ~ Post-Punk.com

"Sonic luxuriance... racing at full velocity with tight-fisted riffs, cutting exactitude and danceability... a healthy reminder of the original and timeless allure of the post-punk sound and scene" ~ The Spill Magazine

“A Cloud of Ravens impress not only for the dark poetry, which forms and develops in the band’s lyrics and expands in their alluring titles, but the duo also rivet through their gritty and immediate sonic scheme, which feels pitch dark and hard as nails”Destroy // Exist

"A perfect blend of an homage to the past and the modern construction of the future. A heroic journey through a desolate land" ~ Sounds and Shadows

“They play cold wave, they play post-punk, they are Gothic and they set to music some of the most striking lyrics you can find” ~ White Light // White Heat

NYC-based postpunk duo A Cloud of Ravens has released 'Parable',  the final taster of their much anticipated 'Lost Hymns' LP with a new video that is as foreboding as the lyrics. Recorded from spring to autumn 2021 and mastered by ACTORS' Jason Corbett at his Jacknife Sound studio, this collection of 11 tracks will be released via Nexilis Records / Schubert Music Europe on April 28.

'Parable' is a foreboding tale that comes following 'Requiem For The Sun', which casts a hopeful eye towards the light in a rich frenetic jaunt through the multiple facets of darkness we are all so eager to leave. Earlier, the duo previewed 'Nature of Artifice' and 'The Blackest Mantra'.

Formed in 2018 by Matthew McIntosh (guitar and vocals) and Beth Narducci (bass guitar), the Brooklyn-based duo emerged on the burgeoning dark music scene with a series of self-released offerings that garnered attention that led to their 2021 album 'Another Kind of Midnight', a mournful yet triumphant collection exploring the heart of a world amidst a devastating pandemic and torn by moral tribalism.

"In some ways, 'Parable' channels Einstein’s definition of insanity, which is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result," says Matthew McIntosh.

"Though dense in metaphor, 'Parable' is asking - how dire do things need to get in this world for us to realize, as a society and culturally, that maybe something needs to shift as far as how we honor each other, the futility of war, and how we treat the environment? We’ve got one planet, and we’re on it together whether we like it or not. Doesn’t the path of least resistance ultimately make the most sense?"

Effectively merging classic and contemporary post-punk and darkwave sensibilities, their somewhat poetic use of prose and metaphor expressed the trials and joys of the world in which we now find ourselves. A Cloud of Ravens' subsequent remix-based EP featured contributions by legendary producer John Fryer and such prominent artists as Clan of Xymox, ACTORS, Chris Vrenna and Ritual Howls.

Growing up in a family of avid music lovers and her mother being a professional opera single, McIntosh arrived at this genre of music after ample explorations in the punk, death rock and hardcore scenes, finally forging the duo's trademark sound with Narducci, whose background is more connected with alternative rock and industrial music, as well as professionally supporting fellow musicians in the A&R field.

'Parable' is out now, available across digital outlets, including Apple Music, Spotify, Amazon and Bandcamp. In support of the 'Lost Hymns' album, A Cloud of Ravens will launch a European tour with Then Comes Silence in April-May, followed by North American dates with Clan of Xymox and Curse Mackey in May-June.

Blackened heavy metal masters CLOAK are now unveiling the crushing new single, "Seven Thunders," which is taken from their upcoming third full-length, 'Black Flame Eternal!' The song can be found along with a lyric video, which was created by CLOAK frontman Scott Taysom.

Cloak comments:
"The Lord thundered from Heaven; the voice of the Most High resounded amid the hail and burning coals.”

"A song based more in religious mythology and tradition, 'Seven Thunders' is a tale of the end times."

CLOAK is following up 2019's 'The Burning Dawn,' which was named one of the Best Albums of the year by Metal Insider (#6), A&P Reacts (#8), Treble Zine (#11), and others.

“The individual has always had to struggle to keep from being overwhelmed by the tribe. If you try it, you will be lonely often, and sometimes frightened. But no price is too high to pay for the privilege of owning yourself.” - Rudyard Kipling

In an era that is designed to beat down and weaken the individual, Black Flame Eternal is an album that represents strength, empowerment, and total opposition. With mounting pressure to engage in modern societal tribalism, Cloak invokes a spiritual rebellion that exists beyond good and evil with album number three.

“All of our albums are created with a spiritual focus, dealing with how we see life, death, and everything in between. I think the earlier records dealt more with the mysteries that surrounded delving deeper into the world of dark spirituality, whereas the new material has taken what we’ve learned and used it to move forward with force,” says Cloak frontman Scott Taysom of the record’s underlying philosophy. “Black Flame Eternal is a statement of spiritual empowerment in every sense. For the first time we want people to grasp on to this sentiment, instead of keeping it completely personal within our world of Cloak. The themes and the sheer power can be felt much more within the songs that this album contains."

“Our goal is complete spiritual liberation, which is where true power and freedom exists,” he adds. “We’ve reached a point in history where people are forced to pick a side or to join a team, so to speak. Cloak stands in complete opposition to this. We aim to be a giant middle finger in the face of the empty modern world.”

While Cloak might rage against societal conventions, the Atlanta quartet embraces the rebellious and time-tested traditions of heavy metal. Whether it be the conjuring the chaotic spirit of Swedish black metal purveyors Watain and Dissection, summoning the deep, dark and sensual groove of Danzig, or evoking the raw speed and raucous energy of Motörhead, the influence of metal’s founding fathers is deep within Cloak’s DNA. Cloak’s charm, however, does not merely lie within its romanticism of the past, but rather is the way each of these genres has shaped Cloak’s own personal identity. And with Black Flame Eternal, the record sees Cloak continue to strengthen its own unique established sound.

Cloak recognizes the importance of a band’s third record, with Taysom explaining, “These influences will always be important to us, as they are some of the best and most important bands of our time. On the other hand, what is so special about getting to the third record of our career is that inspiration starts to move inwards. We had enough experience and material at this point to really know what we do best and how we can utilize these skills in the best way possible. If you look at some of the most iconic bands, their third albums were massive steps towards greatness. So to us, we feel our third record will be a very important one in our time as a band.”

The Atlantan’s evolution is evident in the fury displayed on Black Flame Eternal, which flawlessly compliments the grandiose melodic atmosphere. “This was a conscious effort. Early on before the album even started, I knew it was going to be a much more aggressive and powerful album. I wanted to take a step away from certain sounds and add a bit of brutality back in. The overall vibe matches who we are much more, so it was only fitting to move towards this sound. It almost feels like we are going back to our roots as people in certain ways,” explains Taysom.

Black Flame Eternal follows up sophomore effort The Burning Dawn, which was released in November 2019, with hell unleashing its fury on the globe just a few short months later. As plans to tour the new album around the world came to a screeching halt, the band did not stagger or falter, and instead used this gift of time to write. When reflecting upon the lost years and its impact, Taysom seemingly embraces the situation with little regrets, “Considering Cloak is a sacred space for us, these exterior things did not have as much of an impact as one might think. But it was impossible to ignore some of what was going on throughout these tumultuous years. It’s bound to affect people’s personal lives and the way the mind works during these interesting times. One thing that it did greatly affect was the fact that we could not promote The Burning Dawn properly after the one U.S. tour we did with 1349. We feel this hurt the record, but there was nothing we could do. We were one of the earliest out of the gate after venues started to open back up, and we’ve been continuing to tour in promotion of that album all the way up until now.”

Cloak utilized every minute of this time to focus on fully realizing its vision for Black Flame Eternal. “The initial stage of the writing process started in January of 2020, and lasted all the way until May 2021. It was the longest spanning album process for us so far, with many long days, nights, and weeks trying to piece the songs together the best we could.” While the record did not come together swiftly or easily, the care and attention put into its creation is evident in its powerful composition.

Making up for lost time, these road warriors have already embarked on several high profile North American tours since the autumn of 2021, commanding audiences in every major city with their chaos magick. Each performance merges the spirit of black metal with the backbone of rock ‘n’ roll as the band consistently delivers a blistering set from start to finish. Taysom describes Cloak’s live approach as “a mixture of ethereal atmosphere and total abrasive chaos. The mixture of these two opposing energies is where Cloak lies; the meeting of high and low. To us, this is where the most interesting moments happen, both emotionally and physically.”

With no borders or boundaries, Cloak is ready to embark on this new chapter as the leader of its own pack. The band bows to no one, forging its own path as one of the governing metal forces of this decade as ‘Black Flame Eternal’ promises to scorch the earth and leave its hallowed mark.

"Rats" is an antithesis of previous material, and for far too long, the band told the story of mental degradation without hope. Becoming completely drained repeating the same lines of how it hurts to be here, this new material deals with courage, control, acceptance, and ultimately the end goal that anyone in this circumstance seeks — the other side. This is the journey of getting better, taking control of your life, and the experiences around you.

The Amity Affliction Announce "Not Without My Ghosts" Album + Share "It's Hell Down Here" Video

Australian metalcore trailblazers THE AMITY AFFLICTION — Joel Birch[vocals], Ahren Stringer [vocals, bass], Dan Brown [lead guitar], and Jon Longobardi [drums] — have announced their new album Not Without My Ghosts, out May 12 via Pure Noise. Pre-order it here or here.

To celebrate the news, the band has shared the video for "It's Hell Down Here." Watch it here.
The track address mortality — a topic frequented several times on the album. It also boasts the vocal dynamics and pummeling breakdowns that are the band's signatures.

"This song is a a letter from myself and Ahren, written by me, to our friends who have passed on to the other side," Birch shares.

He continues, "I'm 41. I'm bipolar. And I'm pretty tired of it. That's where lyrics like 'Like a snake I tire / the cold dark clouds, they steal my light' come from. The song is wrapping up how I feel daily, and reflecting on the time leading up to my friend killing himself. I'm sure a lot of people who have experienced that guilt at not seeing what becomes glaringly obvious after the fact."

The album boasts multiple features — something the band has not incorporated into a release in quite some time — including late New Zealand rapper Louie Knuxx, who passed away in 2021, as well as Comeback Kid's Andrew Neufeld, The Plot in You's Landon Tewers, and Phem.

The Amity Affliction will also appear at several festivals this year, including Louder Than Life in September and Aftershock in October.

ABOUT THE AMITY AFFLICTION:
Since emerging in 2008 with their debut Severed Ties, Australian powerhouse The Amity Affliction have consistently delivered. They've tallied over a billion streams worldwide, clocked four No. 1 records, have earned multiple Gold and Platinum certifications in their home country, and enjoyed a string of Top 30-charting albums on Billboard. THE FLOWERS OF HELL presents 'Foray Through Keshakhtaran' ahead of sixth studio album + Record Store Day ‘Odes’ deluxe LP

“So beautiful and great. Exquisite” ~ Lou Reed on Sirius/BBC6

“They take orchestral pop to the next level” ~ Rolling Stone

“Stirringly evocative” ~ NME

“They balance stately chamber pop with noise” ~ Pitchfork

Toronto-London based experimental group The Flowers Of Hell have announced that they will release their new album 'Keshakhtaran' via UK cult label Space Age Recordings (home to Spacemen 3, as well as Spectrum, Chapterhouse, Acid Mothers Temple and The Telescopes). Ahead of this, they present ‘Foray Through Keshakhtaran’, the first taste of the trans-Atlantic group’s first studio album in six years.

A tripped out instrumental journey in two 20-minute parts, this record involves 20 artists, including special guests Rishi Dhir (Elephant Stone, Brian Jonestown Massacre, The Black Angels, Beck) on sitar, Montreal harpist Sarah Pagé, and NYC avant-accordion legend Angel Corpus Christi (Suicide, Spiritualized, Dean Wareham). Produced by the band’s leader and composer Greg Jarvis, this album was mastered by Grammy recipient Peter J. Moore (Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, Neil Young, Joe Strummer).

'Keshakhtaran', which is an urban dictionary term for "seeking nirvana through meditation to sound, especially when you're stoned," is suitably named. The album presents a 42-minute instrumental psilocybin meditation piece in two parts, rooted in sax, flugel horn, chimes, harp, sitar and opera soprano vocals, augmented with tremolos, flutters, horns, woodwinds, strings and percussion.

For the past 18 years, The Flowers Of Hell have traversed the experimental edges of indie, classical and jazz, with music often rooted in the audio-visual synesthesia of the group’s mastermind, Greg Jarvis. Despite relatively obscurity, they have been championed by music legends such as Lou Reed, Sonic Boom, Kevin Shields and members of The Legendary Pink Dots, Death In Vegas, The Wedding Present, The Fugs and The Plastic People Of The Universe, not to mention support from NASA’s mission control team and the Tate Gallery with an album installation and concert just a fortnight before London locked down.

“Keshakhtaran began as a 40 minute ‘space guitar’ piece I’d done out of bits and bobs I’d been playing in my home studio for a girlfriend to meditate to in the months before Covid. During the pandemic, I found I couldn’t write anything new (nothing in, nothing out), but I pulled out the guitar track and started sending it to caged up band members and friends to add layers to, and soon I was mixing and editing away, creating a sonic world to escape off into,” says Greg Jarvis.

“With massages being some of the only human contact allowed in Toronto at the time and with one of my bandmates being a masseuse, I’d go in and test the mixes while over-micro dosing on mushrooms for a truly immersive experience that transported me from the bleak times. I’d then play the work-in-progress for bandmates in my ‘semi outdoor contact’ garage that I’d converted into a psychedelic shack with a lightshow and a fog machine, tweaking things until it reached its final form that you’ll hear”.

For Record Store Day (UK), Space Age Recordings will also release a deluxe first vinyl LP pressing of The Flowers Of Hell’s ‘Odes’ album, originally released in 2012. This is a collection of orchestral pop arrangements of some of Jarvis’ favourite songs, which Laurie Anderson and Lou Reed ended up hearing and loving, with Reed also supporting The Flowers by premiering it on his final radio show.

Fortunate enough to have learned directly from the likes of Malcolm McLaren, David Bowie, Jason Pierce (Spiritualized), The Moody Blues, Liz Mitchell (Boney M) and Ivan Kral (Patti Smith Group) while working in the music business, Greg Jarvis formed the Flowers Of Hell in 2005 – a time when London only had two bi-monthly club nights (Sonic Cathedral and AC30) where it was possible to play The Flowers’ kind of ‘Velvets meets Spacemen 3 meets classical’ music. Since relocating to his hometown Toronto, subsequent albums and tours have involved musicians from both continents.

'Foray Through Keshakhtaran' is available across digital platforms, including Apple Music, Spotify and Bandcamp. The full ‘Keshakhtaran’ LP will be released digitally on May 12th with the vinyl LP (including an inserted bonus CD featuring a reworking of the piece by Sonic Boom) to follow in late 2023. In the meantime, get the deluxe 'Odes' album on vinyl on Record Store Day (April 22) in the UK,to be made available two weeks later for the rest of the world.

GoFundMe Set Up for Daughter of Saliva's Guitarist Wayne Swinny After his Death

A GoFundMe fundraiser has been organized for guitarist Wayne Swinny's daughter after his death last week. The funds will go towards Wayne's expenses and a trust for his daughter.

Donations can be sent here: https://gofund.me/6fcfcab7

Bobby Amaru states:

The Saliva family is mourning the tragic loss of our brother Wayne Swinny. Wayne left us suddenly from a spontaneous brain hemorrhage on March 22, 2023. Wayne fought hard, but ultimately lost his battle. The one bright light is the fact that Wayne was an organ donor and was able to donate his liver and kidneys which saved 2 lives.

Wayne leaves behind the love of his life; his beautiful 11-year-old daughter Nikki. Also, his sister Linda, his very tightly bonded Saliva family, countless friends, legions of musicians whom he inspired past and present, and millions of fans across the world.

The pain and loss his loved ones are experiencing is incomprehensible. We are setting up a donation link to help cover Wayne’s expenses and to create a trust for his daughter Nikki. Wayne will miss Nikki’s graduations, dances, extracurricular events, marriage, children...milestones, highlights and those times she would have needed her father’s guidance and strength by her side. We hope to be able to provide her with some support as she begins her journey in life without him. Any donation is greatly appreciated.

The Saliva family is overwhelmed by the amount of love we have received. Thank you all for the posts, calls, e-mails, texts, and prayers. They are greatly appreciated and helping everyone cope during this very trying time.

Wayne was my best friend and bandmate for nearly 12 years. His sister Linda and I discussed creating a gofundme so that a trust could be created for his daughter Nikki.

After acquiring front man Bobby Amaru in 2011, Saliva became infused with new blood, energy, and spirit. The same energy launched Saliva’s career in 2001 with the release, Every Six Seconds – a certified Double Platinum-selling album, containing the hits, “Click Click Boom” and 2002 Grammy nominated, “Your Disease.” Saliva’s in-your-face, anthemic writing style continued with a certified Gold-selling album Back in to Your System with hits: “Always,” “Raise Up,” and the Nikki Sixx co-written, “Rest In Pieces.”

Upon adding former Shinedown and Fuel bassist, Brad Stewart, as a permanent member, Saliva solidified their new lineup consisting of: Wayne Swinny, Sammi Jo Bishop and Amaru.

Singer/Songwriter Julia Poorman Releases New Single "Upsteam" to all major platforms!

Singer/songwriter Julia Poorman released her latest single "Upsteam" to all major platforms. The single was co-written and produced by Julia Poormanand Danny Roselle at Lakehouse Recording Studio in Asbury Park, NJ and Rosedome Studio in Summit, NJ.

"Upstream is all about carving your own path in a world that begs you to conform. It highlights the magic we each possess as unique and powerful human beings that know how to speak our truths no matter the consequences,"says Julia.

Writing songs has always been second nature to Julia. As a young girl living in New York's Finger Lakes Region, her little poems could be found stuffed in her night stand expectantly waiting for melodies to bring them to life. As soon as she'd pick up the paper, the music would come flowing out and a song would be born.

Throughout her youth, music served as a reliable and cathartic outlet for Julia. To her, it's an entire dimension filled with comradery, boundless expression, and healing.

As a young adult, Julia took a brief step back from her musical endeavors to help build a business and life with her fiance. Navigating the world as an entrepreneur brought many rewarding opportunities for growth and unforgettable experiences, but she was left feeling a void in her creative nature.

In 2021, Julia unexpectedly lost her father. One of the last text messages he sent her was a photo of him listening to her original self-titled EP from 2012. She knew she needed to get back to her roots to begin to heal. Music became a necessary therapy again, and the melodies and lyrics just didn't stop.

Julia now feels the importance of creating music that puts people in their own flow state, a vibrational catalyst for self-exploration and healing. Her passion reclaimed, she feels as though this is just the beginning.

Julia released her single "Already Got It" in 2022.

Prog Rock Trio BLACK ORCHID EMPIRE Shares Video for New Song, "The Raven"

Progressive rock trio BLACK ORCHID EMPIRE is now sharing a brand new single, "The Raven," along with a music video! The song is taken from the band's forthcoming full-length, 'Tempus Veritas,' due on April 14, 2023! The video was created by Alina Gordienco and can be seen below.

Speaking about the single, vocalist/guitarist Paul Visser says: "'The Raven' is a song inspired by our love of Viking folklore and mythology.  After the Danish Vikings began raiding England in the 9th century, many sought long-term settlement - they were farmers who saw an abundance of rich, fertile land in the hands of the Saxons. 'The Raven' is written from the point of view of such a settler who, after many years in a foreign land, is struggling with the feeling of losing touch with the old gods of his former home.  The insane video created by our friend and visual collaborator Alina Gordienco is a brilliant modern-day take on the idea of losing your identity and fighting your inner demons."

Pre-orders are now available HERE. The album can be pre-saved on various digital platforms HERE.

BLACK ORCHID EMPIRE create huge, memorable rock music that combines heavy-hitting savagery with intense melodic beauty. Their technical, fearlessly complex grooves and gigantic sing-along choruses have already earned them a widespread fanbase.

A ferociously tight live band, BLACK ORCHID EMPIRE have toured Europe and the UK extensively, supporting Skunk Anansie, HED p.e, INME and Black Map as well as festival slots at Download, Standon Calling and Planet Rockstock. Black Orchid Empire have sealed the bands reputation as a force to be reckoned with.

Having released their debut album ‘Archetype’ (2016) to universal acclaim, BLACK ORCHID EMPIRE signed with German label Long Branch Records to release the follow up albums ‘Yugen’ (2018) and ‘Semaphore’ (2020). Both albums received stellar reviews and over 3,000,000+ combined streams.

“Tempus Veritas” is a collection of stories that seeks to find compelling imaginary narratives hidden away in what we all think of as history.  Behind every milestone or major event in humanity’s long, complex past lies a treasure trove of possibilities for invention - how did Pope Urban VIII feel when confronted by his friend Galileo about the true nature of the sun?  What really happened during an almost triumphant but ultimately doomed Everest attempt? What was it like to be a Norse settler amongst the Saxons; did the omens of the ancient gods begin to disappear?

In approaching “Tempus Veritas”, BLACK ORCHID EMPIRE sought collectively to push themselves both musically and thematically. Their pursuit of heaviness, melody, emotional power and rhythmic complexity has pushed them to create something they‘re immensely proud of. “Semaphore” was an album of Sci-Fi, this is an album of Hi-Fi. There are a variety of opportunities for fans to engage with the artists, including a dedicated website with artist videos at locallygrown.uscellular.com and an original Spotify playlist, curated to showcase these talented artists.

“I love how UScellular is creating an opportunity for me and other artists to stay connected with fans in communities across the country,” said McCreery. “The amazing people in my hometown of Garner, North Carolina, helped give me my start in music, and it’s great to see that UScellular is working in a similar way to show how they are committed to enriching the communities they serve.”

SASS JORDAN HONORS TAYLOR HAWKINS WITH RELEASE OF "HIGH ROAD EASY" FROM FORTHCOMING ALBUM, LIVE IN NEW YORK NINETY-FOUR.

Sass Jordan's breakthrough album, Racine, was released in 1992 and yielded the Canadian hit singles "Make You a Believer," "I Want to Believe"--both ranked on Billboard magazine's Mainstream Rock chart--"You Don't Have to Remind Me," and "Goin’ Back Again." In 1994, Jordan released Rats, which yielded  her first song on the Billboard Hot 100 with the single "Sun's Gonna Rise," and also featured “High Road Easy.”

Now Jordan has teamed up with Deko Entertainment to take a look back at the Rats tour with the upcoming release of Live in New York Ninety-Four, which was recorded at the South Street Seaport in NYC during that 1994 tour. The band at that time, along with Jordan, consisted of Tony Reyes (bass, vocals), Taylor Hawkins (drums, vocals), Nick Lashley (guitar), and Stevie Salas (guitar). The full album will drop digitally on April 28, to be followed up by a limited-edition vinyl release with preorders going on sale April 15.

The first single off the album is "High Road Easy," which Jordan shares, is a celebration of the early days in the career of Hawkins, future Foo Fighters drummer. Jordan says, "As we hit the milestone that marks one year since Taylor left us, I wanted to do something to honor his memory--a recognition and appreciation for his glorious, big, beautiful energy--which lives on through this recording and in all of our hearts. That’s why we offer this now …. This particular song, ‘High Road Easy,’ was in its infancy in those days--you can really hear it in the way the band attacks and tears it to pieces--rampaging through its whole length like the pack of road dogs that we were…”

Deko Entertainment president, Bruce Pucciarello, comments on the label’s involvement, “Sass is one of my all-time favorites, so I am thrilled we get to share this never released live performance with everyone.  Everything about this record is perfect!"

Of Virtue Share "Cannibals" Video — WATCH

Michigan metalcore band Of Virtue serve their new single "Cannibals" via Arising Empire.

Watch the video below.

Produced by Carson Slovak and Grant McFarland (August Burns Red, Polaris, Hollow Front), with additional production by Chris Shifflett, mixed and mastered by Dan Braunstein (known for his work for Spiritbox, Dayseeker, and Volumes), this new material hits the listener straight in the face.

"'Cannibals' is set during one of the most dangerous of my road to recovery from alcohol because I was finally taking accountability," says vocalist Tyler Ennis. "Before then, I had never noticed how much my choices affected the people around me. Upon reflection, I hated myself for what I had done to them. I was lying, stealing. I was erratic and unpredictable. Overall, I felt that I deserved every bad thing that happened to me. The hardest part was that I felt more worthless in my sober state than while intoxicated and it got to the point where I believed my actions were beyond forgiveness. Because of that dark time in my life, 'Cannibals' serves to remind myself that we cannot change the past but only learn from our mistakes and that we shouldn't let them shape my our of the world in a self-loathing state."

OF VIRTUE LIVE:
7/15 — Grand Rapids, MI — UpHeaval Fest

Of Virtue were formed in 2008 and catapulted onto the Michigan metalcore scene in 2009 with their debut EP To Breathe Again. Combining elements of melodic hardcore and metalcore into a mosh-friendly and energetic amalgam, the band became a staple within its local scene. Of Virtue issued their debut full-length Heartsounds in 2011, followed by an extensive regional touring cycle. The album found the band expanding on the sound that defined its earlier effort, with lyrics speaking of positivity and determination. It was sonically vicious, yet passionate and inspiring. In 2015, the band dropped Salvation, a sprawling and ambitious example of meticulous and melodic metalcore. Third full-length What Defines You arrived in 2019. That album marked incorporation of alternative styles into a backbone of bold, robust metalcore. Even in the setting of a global pandemic, Of Virtue continued to blossom worldwide, accruing new listeners and fans, effectively expanding their reach even in a time where live performances were all but impossible.

ABOUT GOZU:
This is Gozu's world, we're just living in it. Given that it has been five years since the Boston quartet dropped the monstrous Equilibrium, returning with Remedy is one hell of a way to make sure that everyone — whether previously familiar with them or otherwise — realizes that they are perhaps the most badass of American rock bands, for they have taken everything to the next level.

"There is a certain maturity mixed with a childlike enthusiasm to play music, and we all are better players now than on Equilibrium," says vocalist/guitarist Marc Gaffney. "We have all really tried to look at what we enjoy but more what we do not enjoy. Playing music is a gift and when it becomes A Nightmare on Elm St Part 37.3, you are done." The result is nine tracks of their signature combination of fuzzy, '70s-inspired riffs, rich, catchy, grunge-esque vocal melodies and a touch of old school trippy psychedelia written and played with the utmost passion and enthusiasm, eclipsing everything else in their catalogue. "The band wanted a very heavy groove-oriented album with singalong choruses. We also wanted sonically to hit you in the chest, like a three-combination, left-right-left, like Micky Ward. Harmonies and melodies were something we really looked at and wanted to shine, and thick guitar tones, driving bass and drums were under the microscope."

One element that gave the band a kick in the pants going into Remedy was drummer Seth Botos joining Gaffney, guitarist Doug Sherman and bassist Joe Grotto. "Seth brings such an impeccable work ethic and freshness to the band that it was infectious. He is the breath of delicious fresh air the three old men needed. He reminds us of a young Kevin Bacon/Wayne Rooney." Auditioning drummers ate up some of the time elapsed between records but like for so many bands the biggest obstacle was COVID, which slowed down the whole process.

Recording with honorary fifth member of Gozu, producer/engineer Dean Baltulonis (Death Ray Vision, The Hope Conspiracy) at Wild Arctic studios in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, sessions were unlike any that the band had previously experienced. Botos laid his drums down in just a day-and-a-half, taking all suggestions his bandmates had and putting his signature spin on them, echoing the fact that they were all invested in the process more than ever before.

The band obviously hopes to tour the record after so long off the road, and they would love the opportunity to share the stage with bands they admire. When asked what other unfulfilled goals they have at this juncture, Gaffney answers without hesitation: "To always improve, write better, play better, enjoy everything that we are offered and take advantage of it. I feel we are always setting goals for ourselves so we are not stagnant or believe we can’t do more. The goal should always be to have fun, kill it and let the music set people free. The minute we stop setting goals and challenges for ourselves is the minute we have failed."

Dark Progressive Metal Outfit, VULTURE INDUSTRIES, Release New Single, "New Lords of Light”, + Music Video!

Norway’s VULTURE INDUSTRIES have unveiled the first offering from the band’s upcoming new album! The dark progressive metal quintet is proud to announce that their new LP, ‘Ghosts from the past’, will see a June 16th release, and the first single, “New Lords of Light”, is out today!

The new record, which will be released on Dark Essence and distributed via RedEye, is the band’s first full-length release since 2017’s Stranger Times’.

Speaking about the record’s first single, the band shares:

“Starting life with the working title ‘For Roky’, I felt this one had a haunting feel, reminiscent of Roky Erickson. This was back during the pandemic summer of 2021, and I remember listening to early versions of the track in my car, driving up and down the west coast with my kids in the back. Processing the song in this way probably had a defining influence on the final product, so in the end it turned out upbeat and energetic, yet bound in somber atmosphere that harkens back to the 80s.”

Bergen, Norway’s VULTURE INDUSTRIES are back with their fifth studio full-length.

Commenting on the themes and external influences that inspired the creative process for ‘Ghosts from the past’, the band states:

(this album) was written and recorded in a period of big changes, both in our personal lives and in the world around us, this album is somehow a mirror of this. It reflects fear of a world spinning out of control, and sense of powerlessness in the face of world order falling apart. Crumbling only to be replaced by old ideas fronted by autocratic warlords with no sight in mind but their own power and legacy.”

Detailing the journey of recording the LP, the group adds, “With a writing and production period that started in 2018 and ended last year, the process was our longest haul to date, and for a long time we felt lost and struggling to find a sense of direction. Now, having finished the mix and mastering some months ago, it is a great relief to have some distance from the process and I would say ('Ghosts from the past') is our strongest album to date. We hope you enjoy what is essentially a piece of our soul.”

‘Ghosts from the past’ draws a line from childhood spells of dark mystery and a sympathy for the outcast, to a present where monsters hide under your bed. Waiting, not to prey upon the sleeper, but to hide from the monstrosity of the day. Pulling on a wide range of influences; from dust-riddled Spaghetti Westerns accompanied by Ennio Morricone, past the monochrome melancholia of apocalyptic post-punk, through deep valleys and steep hills shrouded in progressive darkness and a Nordic noir looking to solve the murder of the truth.

Landing on something once described by a fan as “this is how Nick Cave would sound if he made metal,” VULTURE INDUSTRIES has long since established itself as something singular, yet, once familiar, strangely recognizable.

Symphonic Metal Icons SIRENIA to Release New Album, '1977', on May 26, 2023

Pre-Order Starts NOW!

Performance Video for

"Twist in my Sobriety" (Tanita Tikaram Cover)

The symphonic metal icons effortlessly merge 80s rock and synthwave elements on their immense 11th studio album!

Exploring a new style like never before – symphonic metal icons SIRENIA revolutionize their melodic darkness on the brand new studio album, '1977', set to be released on May 26, 2023 via Napalm Records. Transporting the listener to a retro auditory arcade harking back to when groovy synthwave melodies dominated the world of music, the international band merges late 70’s and 80’s pop rock stylings with synthwave elements and their remarkable, hard-hitting symphonic melodies - shaking the listener to the core.

Showing off their multifaceted nature at its best, the first single cut from '1977' comes as an absolute time machine in form of the record's bonus track, “Twist in my Sobriety”.The cover of the million-times-over streamed track by German born British singer Tanita Tikaram matches the surprisingly deep voice that presents vocalist Emmanuelle Zoldanin a very new range, while the eerie mid-tempo appears in a brand new light of modern synth beats and characteristic synth-oboe. Transporting their fans right into smokey, neon lit nightclubs, the eclectic mix of '1977' opens up exciting new facets of symphonic, electronic and groove elements in SIRENIA’s music.

Bandleader, multi-instrumentalist, composer and songwriter Morten Veland states:

“'Twist in my Sobriety' is the first single from our upcoming album entitled '1977'. This is the bonus track of our 11th album, and it is a cover version of Tanita Tikaram's original from 1988. I have loved this song since it was released, and it has a very melancholic vibe to it, so it felt like an interesting project to make a SIRENIA version of it. I hope that you will enjoy it while we wait for the upcoming album release”

Join SIRENIA & watch the performance video for “Twist in my Sobriety"

Captured within the magic of 80’s sonics, the four-piece opens up their enchanting new offering with the mesmerizing opener “Deadlight”. The world of soulful violin and fragile piano lines builds up an energetic atmosphere, underlined by the wistful tunes of the multi-talented mezzo soprano voice of French singer Emmanuelle Zoldan. The track is followed by the fast-paced “Wintry Heart”, which gives a bittersweet taste of early 90’s vibes and roaring guitars, while “Nomadic” represents SIRENIA’s characteristic dark and heavy side as shredding guitar riffs alternate with playful interludes while relentless drums and symphonic electronic elements go hand in hand with one another.

“A Thousand Scars” marks a totally new fusion for SIRENIA, as heavy symphonic tunes dressed as remarkable rock riffs and poppy rhythms dance together with the feathery light vocals of Emmanuelle. With the eerie and epic tunes of “Fading to the Deepest Black”, the song is reminiscent of their last album, 'Riddles, Ruins & Revelations' (2021). Kicking off with vertiginous blast beats and a mesmerizing performance by Emmanuelle Zoldan, a warm vocal interlude by Morten Veland supports the song's stunning atmosphere before it leads into an impressive guitar solo. Following their operatic symphonic highs, the heavy side of SIRENIA is not forgotten and appears especially towards the end of their 11th record.

Pre-Order '1977' HERE!

Once again, Norwegian mastermind, bandleader, multi-instrumentalist, composer and songwriter Morten Veland produced the 11th record, while HK at Vamacara Studio, France, took care of the mixing. It’s proof that, after more than twenty years of existence, SIRENIA still ranks at the very top of the genre.

Speaking on the album's release, Ceschi Ramos shares

“ ‘This Is Crime Wave’ has a nostalgia about it that feels familiar to people our age but, in actuality, there is nothing quite like it.

It’s the album I needed at 16 that nobody ever created for me. We’ve made a record that feels classic & important for the times but could have been felt 20 years ago and will continue to be relevant 20 years from now.

It’s exciting to finally share this with the public & hope people feel the amount of experiences, friendship & caring that went into its creation.”

With producer, accomplice and label boss, Fat Mike emphatically stating

“In forty years this is the most excited I’ve ever been about an album.”

Codefendants released five singles prior to today's release - "Suicide By Pigs", "Abscessed" feat. Get Dead & Onry, "Bad Business" feat. N8NOFACE, "Def Cons" and "Fast Ones" featuring the first new verse from legendary rapper, The DOC in 19 years.

These tracks were each accompanied by a music video that when played in order, combine to create a short film written by Fat Mike that lays bare the hard hitting realities of police corruption and brutality in the USA today. The This Is Crime Wave Series features cameo appearances from Rick Thorne (Professional BMX Biker), Stacey Dee of Bad Cop Bad Cop, Jen Razavi of The Bombpops, Bettie Bondage (Pro Dominatrix), Zeta (also the backing band for Codefendants on their North American tour), 2MEX, MYKA9 and Awol One.

ABOUT CODEFENDANTS

Sam King from Get Dead’s graffiti crew were giving tattoos and making flash art to raise money to help rapper Ceschi Ramos when he was incarcerated. Months later, they met at the Gilman Street Project in Berkeley, California. They bonded, talking about their love of hip-hop and punk rock over a bottle of Jameson. They didn’t know it yet, but they had just started Codefendants.

They began recording songs two years later in Los Angeles with Fat Mike from NOFX as producer. Soon after Fatty joined the band, they decided to make an album that sounded like nothing else - a completely genre-fluid album - a cross between hip hop, new-wave, flamenco, and the Beatles. And thus a whole new genre - Crime Wave - was born. That album entitled This Is Crime Wave will be released via Fat Wreck imprint, Bottles To The Ground.

AFTERMATH Releases New Full Length Album 'No Time To Waste' + Official Music Video for Single "We Can Do This Together"

Stream/Purchase No Time To Waste

https://ffm.to/aftermath-nttw

AFTERMATH released their highly anticipated new album, No Time to Waste via Zoid Entertainment/TLG/INgrooves on March 17, 2023. This marks the third album in a trilogy, and is a departure from the previous dark, concept album installment in the trilogy.

"We are really proud of this album. It completes a trilogy of albums that began with our debut. Written in the darkest period in modern history, we actually wrote this one as an album of hope. We streamlined it from our previous dark concept record. The ten songs on this album are heavy and energized. It’s a metal record with a message and that message is we can do this together but we have no time to waste." - Kyriakos "Charlie" Tsiolis.

To celebrate the release of No Time To Waste, the band released the official music video for single "We Can Do This Together" from acclaimed director Alex Zarek.

WATCH the video here:

Chicago based Aftermath, fronted by Kyriakos "Charlie" Tsiolis, formed in October 1985 when Charlie and his schoolmate Steve Sacco (Guitar) got together. This early incarnation with Adam (Bass) and Ray Schmidt (Drums) released their first demo in 1986 featuring “Sentenced to Death”, “Revenge”, “Shotgun” and “The Aftermath”.

In 1987, they unleashed their second demo entitled Killing the Future featuring the tracks “When Will You Die”, “Going No Place”, “Chaos”, “Meltdown” and “War for Freedom”. The band pursued a mind-blowing speed and technical brand of thrash that soon set them apart from the pack and in the process made them a pioneering crossover thrash band.

The tracks "War for Freedom" & "When Will You Die" were both featured on the British Metal Forces magazine_compilation LP Demolition: Scream Your Brains Out in 1988. Their appearance on the Metal Forces compilation further expanded the band's international appeal.

By 1988, the band's musical direction was changing, and Adam's raw and simple bass lines would soon be replaced with complex and technical bass parts handled at first by John Lovette. Ironically, John never played bass on any Aftermath recording and was not even a bass player. He wanted to join the band so badly, however, that he came to the audition with a friend's bass he had just started to play. The speed and complex playing he displayed were like nothing the members had ever seen before on bass. He landed the gig that day. When the band decided it was time to add a second guitarist, Lovette told his bandmates of his desire to switch to guitar and for the first time he came clean he was a guitar player pretending to be a bass player all along. His bass playing was surpassed by his guitar skills and the band found its second guitar player, but unfortunately the search for a bass player was forced to resume. Luckily, the search (for the time being, anyway) ended with Danny Vega. His warm and precise playing was the perfect complement to the guitar playing of Lovette and Sacco and worked amazingly well with Schmidt's powerful drumming. With Lovette handling most of the song writing duties, Aftermath was about to make an unbelievable musical change.

By 1989, that change brought on by Lovette's writing and the band's musical tastes and stylings had slowed and matured as evidenced by the release of the underground classic demo Words That Echo Fear. Danny Vega was replaced on bass by Chris Waldron. The band went onto to become a trailblazing progressive/technical thrash band in the years that followed.

In 1990, based on the huge international success of the Words that Echo Feardemo, the metal label RoadRacer Records (a subsidiary of Roadrunner Records)approached the band for a demo deal, which resulted in a live four track demo featuring the songs “Eyes of Tomorrow”, “Afraid Of Time”, “The Act Of Unspoken Wisdom” and “Reflecting Pictures". Negotiations eventually broke down and Aftermath signed to New York's Big Chief Records. The label's collapse halfway through the recording sessions led to a long delay in finishing the record. While the band struggled to pay the studio bill, the album the band started to record in 1990 would not see the light of day for four years. The experience left the band reeling and forced them to issue the album under their own imprint with the help of their manager through Zoid Recordings in 1994. Four long years had passed since the initial recordings for the record Eyes of Tomorrow and the scene had dramatically changed.

The album was subsequently re-released on Thermometer Sound Surface / Zoidand released yet again four years (1998) later on Black Lotus Records in a re-mastered version.

Quite famously, Aftermath, in a notable court case Tsiolis v. Interscope. Records. Inc., 946 F.Supp. 1344, 1349 (N.D.III. 1996) sued high-profile millionaire rapper DR. DRE over the ownership of the Aftermath name. The Rapper tried to buy the name for $50,000, which the band rejected. The band sued him. As part of the settlement, Interscope Records signed the band. To the label's surprise, the band delivered a record under the moniker Mother God Moviestar. Its eponymous Electro-Metal debut was released in March 1998. The case has been studied in law schools around the US related to the issue of trademark dilution.

Aftermath has continued to receive critical acclaim as one of the major influences in the genre. The band was featured on pages 9 and 10 of Gary Sharpe-Young's A - Z of Thrash Metal, available on Cherry Red Books. Aftermath is also given an entire feature section in Alexandros Anesiadis’ 2019 book Crossover the Edge: Where Hardcore, Punk, and Metal Collide.

Twenty-five years after its formation, Aftermath's music made its return in 2011 with the release of the Box Set 25 YEARS OF CHAOS on Area Death Productions and the vinyl When Will You Die on F.O.A.D. The reemergence of one of the most original thrash bands ever continued in 2014 with their decision to reunite for several concerts in 2015.

Coming off their first show in 20 years at Ragnarokkr Metal Apocalypse in their hometown of Chicago, the band ripped the stage apart at Headbanger’s Open Air in Hamburg, Germany that summer. In the Fall of 2015, the reunion continued with the reissue of Eyes of Tomorrow. With an expanded booklet and remastered by Paul Logus (Pantera, Steel Panther), Shadow Kingdom Records released the band's debut along with bonus material. Following this release was the Killing the Futurereissue on Divebomb Records. Once again Paul Logus remastered the tracks from their original source and created a wall of sound in the process. Killing the Future, along with the expanded booklet and bonus tracks from the band's 1986 first demo completed the celebration of the band's 30th anniversary.

In 2017, the band started writing the material for their new album. There is Something Wrong is an 11-song opus recorded by Chuck Macak. mastered by Ted Jensen and released through Ingrooves by Zoid Entertainment and The Label Group. A concept record in the truest sense of the word, the album features a mix of old-school crossover thrash and technical/progressive metal and is a commentary on what is wrong with the world today. A calling out of the masses to wake up and know the real enemy. The music is urgent, and the lyrics challenge the listener to seek the truth. Aftermath went back to its early days and revived its crossover thrash stylings on several songs, but those are only samples of what the listeners have in store for them once they put on their headphones and listen to There is Something Wrong in its entirety.

In 2020, Aftermath released a re-imagined version of the John Lennon classic, "Give Peace a Chance". The song was remixed and remastered for the new album and included on the record because of the message.

“John Lennon’s urgent call for peace in Give Peace a Chance is more important today than ever, and our call for peace with this cover is the perfect message to follow up our previous album. We released a dark concept album with a bleak message and felt it was important to follow that up with something positive. The visuals in the video are as important as the lyrics in a way. We live in a visual world today and this video needed to get out the message of HOPE. Having a young girl be the focus of the video was our way of getting that across. Seeing only positive acts when she puts on Lennon’s famous glasses was the perfect visual metaphor. Lennon’s message is transmitted not only through his lyrics but also through the perspective created by his unique lenses” says the band.

The video was directed by critically acclaimed video director Steven Nathan in New York City.

AFTERMATH is:

Kenny Chesney Drops Surprises on 1st Night of “I Go Back Tour”

KENNY CHESNEY’S I GO BACK 2023 TOUR IS ON…

Plays to 13,017 at John Paul Jones Arena

Kelsea Ballerini Joins 8-Time Entertainer of the Year for “Wild Child”
& Their Award-Winning “half of my hometown”

When Kenny Chesney walked onstage at John Paul Jones Arena, it was one of the smallest venues he’s played in the past several years. But he rocked the 13,017 people as hard as any stadium show he’s played. Emerging to the sweeping “Til It’s Gone,” Chesney took the capacity crowd through 29 songs over the course of two-plus hours with all the energy and intensity that he’s built his career on.

By the fifth song – “Reality” – he had the crowd singing along at full volume, but the chorus of “everybody needs to break free” became a liberating mantra for families, young couples, teens at their first show and a few fans who’d been there for decades. The songwriter/superstar told the people he’d last played the venue when he opened the John Paul Jones Arena in 2006.

“It was a crazy thing,” he said backstage prior to the concert. “We pulled up and all of the Statler Brothers were there, and they watched the entire show from the third row. Charlottesville is that kind of place: the very best of who they are come out and just live in the music. I can’t believe we’ve been away this long.”

For Chesney, his I Go Back 2023 Tour is an opportunity to revisit many of the places, faces and memories he made along the way. Beyond putting some No Shoes Nation favorites back into his no holding back set – the ACM Single of the Year “The Good Stuff,” “Don’t Happen Twice” and “Beer Can Chicken” as a mash-up – Chesney spent the night moving back and forth across the T-shaped stage, high-fiving fans, leaning into his musicians and letting the players shine.

After a ferocious bass/drum trade-off by Harmoni Kelley and Nick Buda on “All The Pretty Girls” tumbled into an aggressive “Living In Fast Forward,” “Young” and “Noise,” Chesney cooled the crowd down by sliding into the chilled D-Sharp groove of “Wild Child.” As the chorus-swelled, special guest Kelsea Ballerini emerged from the wings in a red fringed top with matching red fringed stiletto knee high boots to sing Grace Potter’s signature ethereal harmonies.

Beyond some repartee about how they came to record the CMA Musical Event and Video winner “half of my hometown,” the chemistry between the two kids from Knox County showed the audience the power of common roots. Clearly enamored with the small towns they came from, both are examples to the power of dreams chased and realized.

“I wanted to bring all the power and all of the passion that we have at those stadium shows,” Chesney said post-show. “I want every single person who’s in the room to know how much we love them, to feel as good as they’ve ever felt and to go home hoarse from the cheering and singing. Charlottesville, Virginia sure made the opening night feel like the biggest stadiums.”

After one of 2022’s biggest tours in any genre – having the fifth biggest tour after Bad Bunny, Elton John, Mötley Crüe/Def Leppard and Harry Styles – Chesney believes in the collective energy of No Shoes Nation, wherever they are! Having hit No Shoes Radio live at 3 pm for their Live from the Tour Kick-Off remote, he was all in – and never stopped.

I Go Back 2023, with special guest Kelsea Ballerini, is presented by Blue Chair Bay® Rum.

Nita Strauss Drops New Single "Winner Takes All" Featuring Alice Cooper

Today, Cooper will be interviewing Strauss about their duet on his syndicated radio show Nights With Alice Cooper.

"When we were working on the music for this album, there was no question that I wanted to create a song to collaborate with my longtime boss and friend, the legendary Alice Cooper," Strauss exclaims. "I think the track accomplishes what we set out to do — showcase Alice's voice and signature style on the backdrop of a heavy, modern rock track. After many years of lending my style of playing to Alice's music on stage, it was truly an honor to work together and hear his voice on one of my songs!"
