Spawn of Possession Are Reborn on "Retromorphosis"

Eight years ago, the underground lost a unique leader when Spawn of Possession crawled into their hallowed crypt. Foul-mouthed disciples still utter the name SoP with reverence, but while others tried to crack the band's forbidden cabinet, these accursed innovators were secretly festering in their grave, plotting to return and haunt the world of extreme metal once more.

Now, the undead masses can finally rejoice. Thanks to a healthy kick from their decrepit new drummer, Spawn of Possession has been reborn as Retromorphosis. With their debut album, this new band of freakish players emerge with the missing link in technical death metal's evolutionary chain. The latest mutation off Psalmus Mortis is a living testament to their ungodly strength.

"Retromorphosis" upholds the heretical traditions hammered down by the band's forefather. After all, Spawn of Possession also had a song named after them on their deviant debut. "If you're going to have a song with the same name as your band, then it has to appear on your first album", says Jonas Bryssling, who started Retromorphosis during the pandemic after his pick hand was once again bit by death metal's radioactive songwriting bug.

Put under the microscope and the band's new single does share SoP's unreplicable DNA. Christian Muenzner zips through not one, not two, but three guitar solos, each one packed with more technically innovative twists than a triple helix. No matter which way their tales leave you tossing and turning in the dead of night, all of the songs on Psalmus Mortis spiral into madness, but on "Retromorphosis", Dennis Röndum growls like a man freshly possessed by the devil on his massive shoulders. "I'm the one / chosen son / gifted and reborn".

While marked by their beastly signature skills, Psalmus Mortis adds more raw edge to the mix. The album was produced by fellow Swede Magnus Sedenberg, who's been the band's preferred death dealer since Spawn of Possession's first two demos. But Retromorphosis scrapes away all of the studio polish that's become fashionable even in today's underground. As shown by his latest bass playthrough, Erlend Casperson can groove along the same brain waves as the most high-minded shredders, but his tone on their new single reeks of the gutter.

"I prefer my death metal to sound ugly and mean", Bryssling says with a satisfied grin.

More muscular face pounding isn't Retromorphosis only hideous mutation. As Bryssling rips into chunky riffs with the unsavory appetite of an old-school cannibal, ex-Decrepit Birth drummer K.C. Howard beats you senseless with rabid blasts and pounding double bass. But while less techy, Psalmus Mortis does experiment with some unconventional instruments of torture. "All I hear is voice of God / it never leaves me", Röndum declares in depraved glory, backed by sinister organ glows and a choir of angels who raise their voices as if condemned to the depths of hell.

“We had rules in Spawn of Possession”, Bryssling explains when asked what separates Retromorphosis from his earlier offspring. “Everything had to always be so intense. Retromorphosis is more free. Psalmus Mortis can be eerie, doomy or even quite simple”.

Can't wait to hear the gloriously grotesque new album from Retromorphosis? Hear all of Psalmus Mortis during tomorrow's Bandcamp Listening Party.

Ask Bryssling to identify what separates this new baby from their first born and the answer is, in fact, quite simple."Retromorphosis is more free". Put the song that bears their name under the microscope and feast your eyes on everything this band are capable of: non-stop blasting, brain-bursting bass fills, solos that would fry a supercomputer and pure unholiness. “I’m the one / chosen son / gifted and reborn”.

With Psalmus Mortis, technical death metal’s chosen ones rise from the grave.

Kelsey Michael presents stunning debut 'Lethowsow' album, combining classic pop & indie folk

British artist Kelsey Michael has released her debut solo album 'Lethowsow' via Peckham-based label Dimple Discs, channeling her love of such 60s-70s piano singer-songwriters as Laura Nyro and Carole King. This 7-track offering has a contemporary art-pop edge, showcasing dynamic vocals, uplifting feel-good ‘classic’ pop and hypnotic shruti-box folk drones.

With this album, Kelsey Michael's unique sound having garnered BBC 6 Music support from Radcliffe and Maconie, and also Gilles Peterson, in addition to rave reviews from an array of publications, with UNCUT's Rob Hughes dubbing this "Nyro-esque rapture" and "beguiling... infused with natural wonder".

Kelsey's own history in the music scene is many-storied. Previously a theatre performer and movie soundtrack singer, you may also recognize her voice from Jocelyn Pook’s score for Stanley Kubrick’s final film 'Eyes Wide Shut' or through her collaborations with Anglo-Irish avant-pop band The High Llamas and their endlessly inventive songwriter Sean O’Hagan. In fact, she features on five of Sean’s albums, including his  2019 solo release 'Radum Calls Radum Calls'.

Many moons have passed since her first job as a backing singer for music legends The The on their European tour. Since then Kelsey Michael has released two EPs with her previous London-based band Minnow, the second of which (‘Out Of The Woods’) came out on Stereolab label Duophonic and also involves Sean O’Hagan, receiving notable praise from The Wire and The Guardian, among others.

Celebrating song whilst transporting us to the magical wild West Cornwall landscape - Kelsey’s chosen home, anchor and inspiration - this album is a cinematic breath of fresh air. "Lethowsow" (pronounced Laith-oh-so), means ‘the milky ones’ in old ‘Kernewek’ language - this old Cornish name being given the treacherous Seven Stones reef off Lands End, a large stretch of vertical rocks like sharks’ teeth which are always covered with white water. Kelsey loved the soft sound of this word, describing the rocks in a magical way, as if they were characters.

For Kelsey, this album represents the awesome and humbling power of nature, the sea being a major character in this release. 'Swimming' takes us wading into waves, "cooling off the heat deep inside", with watery glissando from stunning harpist Benjin Musiq.

This album also features vocal performances by folk artist Angeline Morrison (creator of 'The Sorrow Songs: folk songs of black British experience') and Maria Heseltine, as well as Kelsey's daughter, May Robson (MAY). Acoustic bassist Ben Kypreos and percussionist Greg Dyer also contribute to this album's sound with rich harmony and a magically fresh sound.

Earlier, Kelsey Michael shared the feel-good 'Mounts Bay Morning' and the Jobim- and Morricone-influenced lead track 'Music Of The Waves', the video for which features the lush landscape that is so inspirational to her, with images of hedgerow, shore and moors thrown up to catch the light, along with a tumble of beautiful Cornish place names.

Named for the Isles of Scilly freight ship, folklore-filled sea ballad 'Gry Maritha' serenades this hardy blue boat in rhapsodic style - think Gerry and The Pacemaker’s 'Ferry across the Mersey 'in session with The Carpenters. Telling multiple stories, it touches on the folklore of the waters of the Scilly crossing whilst simultaneously uncovering hidden moments of a mother and child whose daily rhythms overlap with the ship’s departure and return.

'Tide Comes In / The Crossing' gets real about rural poverty in Penzance, still finding cause to celebrate the resilience, creativity and community support networks so often invisible to visitors. The inevitable ebb and flow of the tides gives certainty in troubled times when it can feel there is little to rely on.

This immersive music experience comes home to the wonder of small domestic moments in 'Washing Line', featuring exquisitely phrased guest vocals by Angeline Morrison. By hanging the stuff of our lives on the washing line, so to speak, we are able to gain perspective, let go of habitual obstacles and move on. In this final song, we are given musical headspace and a moment to pour some balm on modern life.

'Lethowsow' is out now on CD and vinyl via Dimple Discs, and is also available digitally via SpotifyApple Music and Bandcamp.

ABDUCTION Release New Single "Blau ist die Farbe der Ewigkeit" + Video!

UK extreme metal collective ABDUCTION has released a new single, "Blau ist die Farbe der Ewigkeit," from their forthcoming album, 'Existentialismus,' set to be released on February 21, 2025 via Candlelight.

The new track is a harrowing exploration of the band's signature sound, a masterful amalgamation of otherworldly atmospheres, searing aggression, and apocalyptic tension. "Blau ist die Farbe der Ewigkeit" offers a chilling, yet cohesive glimpse into the bleak, introspective universe the band continues to craft, drawing their listeners into a sonic abyss that is as unforgiving as it is captivating.

With 'Existentialismus,' ABDUCTION continues to push the boundaries of extreme metal, their sound a fierce embodiment of nihilistic intensity. And as the album's release date draws near, "Blau ist die Farbe der Ewigkeit" serves as a potent warning of the darkness yet to come.

Comments vocalist A|V:

"The city swine are feasting, eyes fixated on all that is surplus, transitory, and inane.

"All at once was the flood.

"Unwilling rats, unknowing of their stench.

"Spiralling towards the sewer...

"Perfect."

Following their 2022 album, 'Black Blood,' which showcased the band's fiercely expansive sound, ABDUCTION is now poised to push their musical boundaries even further. With many bands currently paying homage to black metal’s glory years and just as many attempting to connect unrelated workings to that legacy, ABDUCTION’s music manages to be both recognizably authentic and imbued with its own spirit. And never has this been truer than in the new album, 'Existentialismus.'

The band will also be hitting the road for a series of exclusive live dates in March, bringing the intensity of 'Existentialismus' to the stage in support of the album's release.

Pre-Order 'Existentialismus' HERE

Having become one of the UK’s most visible black metal acts on the live circuit, bringing their ritualistic and immersive performances to audiences at club shows and festivals such as Damnation, Bloodstock, Incineration, Fortress, Mass Destruction, Samhain, Reaperfest, and Eradication, 'Existentialismushas been recorded, for the first time, as a full band.

“It’s inspired by the juxtaposition of this horrible post-truth era with its contradictions and the simple, metaphorical truths that began in ancient religions of the crumbling past. Somewhere between a biblical gospel and a Nietzschean nightmare. As a father, there’s a particular terror in seeing all that our grandfathers built, physically and morally, being torn apart and reduced to a commodity and wondering what kind of world my son will inherit.”

“I am by no means a philosopher – I desperately lack the patience,” A|V admits. “But my observations of the modern Western humane race have become particularly bleak, and this informs my lyrical writing process. Art as a reaction to life and experience. This is laid out in the first track, ‘A Legacy of Sores’, which posits that most of us here, in the current year, have become an alarming pairing of being both too sensitive and yet without any core beliefs to stand on. (‘Wet skin now paper thin, reveals a core of dust’) I think this is a mixture of a post-religious society and the acceleration of technology to the point at which its claws are deeply in us. Have you tried to live without a smartphone recently?”

'Existentialismus' was recorded and produced by Ian Boult at Stuck On A Name Studios in Nottingham, while the final touches of post-production and mastering were handled by Tore Stjerna (WatainMayhemDeströyer 666) at Necromorbus Studios in Sweden. The striking and immersive cover art is the work of Julia Soboleva.

50TH ANNIVERSARY REISSUE OF ANGEL'S DEBUT ALBUM TO COINCIDE WITH THEIR 2025 TOUR!

Employing a dazzling mix of glam rock, hard rock, and progressive rock, Angel's outrageous, white-satin-heavy image and equally over-the-top stage shows, making them one of the more colorful arena rock bands of the mid '70s and early '80s. Discovered by KISS bass player, Gene Simmons, the group issued their eponymous debut album in 1975, which hewed closer to prog rock than the glam pop that would be on future endeavors like On Earth as It Is in Heaven (1977) and Sinful (1979). The group released a total of five studio albums and one live album before going their separate ways in 1981. The band officially re-formed in 2019 with original members, Punky Meadows and Frank DiMino, and released their comeback studio effort, Risen, later that October and followed up with Once Upon A Time in 2023.

The group's self-titled 1975 debut was recorded for Casablanca Records with a line-up comprising Frank DiMino (vocals), Punky Meadows (guitar), Gregg Giuffria (keyboards), Mickie Jones (bass), and Barry Brandt (drums). A heavy slab of heavy pomp rock with lengthy songs featuring the longtime stage favorite "Tower"

Watch “Tower” Below:

Now to celebrate the 50th Anniversary this classic has been remastered and is being released on both a 6-panel CD digipak and on 180G vinyl in two amazing Limited- Edition Colors with liner notes by journalist Dave Reynolds. There are only 300 of the White-Blue Splatter and 700 of the Black-Blue Swirl available with a limited number of bundles signed by the 4 surviving original members, Frank DiMino, Punky Meadows, Gregg Giuffria, and Barry Brandt.

you, infinite (Feat. Members of This Will Destroy You) Share New Single "The Elder"

You, infinite, the new project from This Will Destroy You founding members, have shared "The Elder;" the latest single from their self-titled debut full-length due February 28, 2025 through Berlin's Pelagic Records.

you, infinite reunites Jeremy Galindo and Raymond Brown, founders of acclaimed instrumental outfit This Will Destroy You, in a new collaborative project. After departing TWDY to pursue a career in medicine, Brown continued to write music while establishing a successful practice in Austin, Texas. During the pandemic, he accumulated a collection of melodies and ideas which he shared with Galindo, sparking a renewed creative partnership. Separated by distance, with Galindo in Los Angeles and Brown in Austin, the duo began to exchange ideas digitally in order to shape the foundations of you, infinite's electronic-edged, panoramic post-rock sound.

Between 2021 and 2024, the two came together in person to refine the pieces and ultimately to finalize the album. Working with Andrew Hernandez, who recorded and mixed the album in the summer of 2024, Brown and Galindo were joined by Johnnie McBryde, Ethan Billips, and Nicholas Huft, all current members of Galindo's TWDY lineup, in order to truly bring the album to life.

An epic collision of fuzzy, acoustic warmth and huge, wall-of-sound guitar work; the exhilarating dynamic composition of "The Elder" is simultaneously a knowing nod to lives since lived whilst also proving that, newly reunited, this groundbreaking creative partnership has so much more to give.

A modern successor to TWDY's own seminal S/T release, you, infinite is a reflection on over 15 years of growth and experience, both as bandmates together and as friends apart. A reimagined and reinvigorated approach to the sound they once pioneered, as you, infinite Galindo and Brown are charting a new course across a familiar yet altogether different landscape; honouring their past whilst boldly forging ahead into places unknown.

you, infinite is due to be released on the February 28. Pre-order it here.

Futuristic Dutch Metallers CRYPTOSIS Launch New Single “Static Horizon” + Video

CRYPTOSIS checked in with the following comment about the track:

"’Static Horizon’ is the 3rd single from our upcoming album 'Celestial Death', out March 7ththrough Century Media Records. The song combines black metal atmospheres and symphonic elements with fast prog metal guitar picking and melodic doomy grooves. The title represents a feeling of being trapped in a static, unchanging reality, where progress and hope seem distant. With its haunting melodies and intense riffing, the track delivers a powerful mix of raw energy and deep emotion."

Watch the New Video for "Static Horizon" Below:

About 'Celestial Death,' CRYPTOSIS shared the following:

“We’re excited to announce our new album! A sonic journey that pushes all boundaries of everything we created before. This album represents our evolution - an exploration of darkness that’s both vast and cinematic. 'Celestial Death' pulls you into a haunting atmosphere with relentless heaviness. Each track digs deeper into the enigma of existence, decay and fragile hope. 'Celestial Death' is our darkest vision yet - a soundtrack to the chaotic world we live in. It’s heavier, bolder, and still very much CRYPTOSIS. We can’t wait for you to experience it, and join us in this new chapter. Prepare to ascend. The 'Celestial Death' awaits!".

'Celestial Death' was recorded by Olaf Skoreng at Tom Meier and Studio Moon Musicbetween April and August 2024, mixed by Fredrik Folkare at Chrome Studios (Unleashed, Necrophobic, Hellbutcher) in Sweden and finally mastered by Tony Lindgren at Fascination Studios (Arch Enemy, Borknagar, Amorphis) in Sweden too. Chicago indie pop-rock outfit Push Puppets shares cinematic single 'All Together On 3', heralding fourth album

Melodic indie pop-rock outfit Push Puppets presents 'All Together On 3', the cinematic first single from their album 'Tethered Together', slated for release later in 2025. A catchy introduction to their new long-player, it has a timeless quality, tinged with a touch of melancholic reflection, taking us on a sonic trip that is as stimulating as it is emotionally resonant.

Based in the Chicago satellite community of Palatine, Push Puppets revolves around singer-songwriter and guitarist Erich Specht. They create songs with earworm melodies and shiny production that belie the often bittersweet sentiments in the songwriting.

A clear standout on the album, 'All Together On 3' blissfully reaches the listener's tympanum through the workings of a five-piece band and string quartet. A moody and musically progressive song about how we’re stronger when we work together, it builds to a cathartic reprise of live strings and harpsichord with a desperate vocal crying for a helping hand as violins punctuate the lines with elegance.

With Specht on lead vocals and guitar, Push Puppets is rounded out by Steve Frisbie (backup vocals and guitar), Kyle Magnusson (keyboards), John William Lauler (bass) and Greg Essig (drums).  On this particular album, they are joined with a string quartet on most songs and a horn section on one.

"I think 'All Together On 3' paints a pretty vivid picture of someone needing help out of a tough situation.  This one was very satisfying to see fully realized.  It has some math rock moments like phrases and patterns of different lengths keeping things interesting," says Erich Specht.

Their fourth album, 'Tethered Together' is graced with impeccable songwriting that shines with lush harmonies, angular guitars, dramatic keyboards and strings backed by a rhythm section to ensure a continually high groove factor.

Frontman Erich Specht muses on relationships and loss, as well as the weight and joy of life, in a manner that is poetic and seems effortless, his lyrics fitting to the melody like pieces of a puzzle. Wearing his vulnerabilities like a badge of honor, this music takes us on a journey to unexpected places.

With songs as the engine of this album, nurtured and allowed to reach their potential, 'Tethered Together' is quite a varied sounding album, eloquently woven together by Specht’s unique storytelling.

"This album offers a nod to the artistic excesses of the 70s, whether it's a wall of phased vocals or a moment where guitars and strings rip a quick line together between phrases.  The tracks are widely varied yet cohesive - and within a given song, you're likely to be taken elsewhere" says Erich Specht.

"Once it was decided that strings would be on the album, the sound took an interesting twist.  At places where I might normally put a guitar hook, I was now composing bold phrases for the live string quartet that the vocal or lead guitar could interact with."

As of February 4, 'All Together On 3' is available from fine digital platforms, including Spotify, Apple Music and Bandcamp. The full 'Tethered Together' album will be released on May 16 via Flowering Tree Music.

NITE Slither on New Single "Cult of the Serpent Sun"

While they're known for putting a twist on traditional heavy metal, NITE strives to be a light when the world is constricted by darkness. Upon hearing the high-flying first single off their upcoming third album, heshers from across the underground raised their spike-gloved fists over the triumphant return of the blackened Bay Area torchbearers.

"Precision execution, dynamic songwriting and an obvious reverence for the greats all comprise equal parts of NITE's classic approach to contemporary heft", Knotfest wrote in praise of "Crow (Fear the Night".

Today, NITE are unsheathing the second single off Cult of the Serpent Sun. The title track opens the album with the band snaking into the heat of battle with fresh venom.

After venturing to the ancient cosmos on their last album, Cult of the Serpent Sun pits NITE against the shadowy mythology that lays dormant beneath society's underbelly. To steel themselves for battle against the album's poisonous perils, NITE wisely triples down on their classic attack. Like  a hydra, "Cult of the Serpent Sun" shakes out of your speakers. Van Labrakis unleashes a monstrous riff that slithers with all the leathery glory of '80s heavy metal gods.

"Fans really responded to older songs like 'Acheron' and 'Genesis", Labrakis says. "Cult of the Serpent Sun has more songs that are fast and upbeat and help lift people's spirits".

Indeed, storming stages from Northwest Terror Fest to Hell's Heroes VI has only honed NITE's cutting-edge weaponry. Under his hammering swings, Patrick Crawford's drums crack like thunder before galloping through the storm. Avinash Mittur digs the heel of his Rickenbacker bass into a deep, dark groove as dueling guitarist Scott Hoffman trades off swashbuckling leads.

"Pour your venom / Preachers of the underground", Labrakis hisses, his fangs sharpened by road-tested grit.

"Cult of the Serpent Sun explores how historically there has always been a power structure ready to indoctrinate and exploit the hordes of mindless fools who will so quickly worship at the altar of death", NITE says. "Death eternal!"

NITE's classic weaponry shows no signs of rust on their third album. "The Last Blade" draws first blood amidst an acoustic flurry before thrusting onto the offensive. "The aim here is not to replicate that era but to explore and evolve," Labrakis told Decibel when asked about the band's influences. Cult of the Serpent Sun honors the trailblazing spirits of old by honing what separates this band's particular alchemy from mere imitation brew. "The Mystic" expands their sonic palette, featuring a slow-burning bass line that stretches time and space into a hypnotic portal. With its whirling and enchanted melody, "Tarmut" glimmers like a desert mirage.

"We play a traditional style of heavy metal, but the blackened element takes us in a different direction," Labrakis says. His road-hardened voice stands resolute in "Carry On," denouncing the perils of war. "Dream on and find who you are," he beckons on the album's triumphant closer "Winds of Sokar."

On Cult of the Serpent Sun, NITE guards the altar of blackened heavy metal with sharpened blades and axes raised.

Canadian Hard Rockers HAREM SCAREM Unveil New Single "Reliving History" + Lyric Video

Today, Canadian hard rockers HAREM SCAREM are pleased to unveil their new single “Reliving History”, out now via Frontiers Music Srl. The single is accompanied by a lyric video, available to view below.

Vocalist Harry Hess comments on the new single:

“It’s been almost 5 years since we’ve released any new music. We are thrilled to announce the release of our brand new single 'Reliving History'. Looking forward to seeing everyone on the road this year. Enjoy!”

Arguably Canada’s finest melodic hard rock band, HAREM SCAREM were formed in 1987 by guitarist Pete Lesperance and singer Harry Hess, formerly of the heavy metal band Blind Vengeance. The lineup was rounded out by Darren Smith (drums) and Mike Gionet (bass).

They recorded a demo in 1989 and, on the strength of it, they were signed to Warner Music. Their self-titled album was a significant success in Canada and paved the way to the release of the heavier 'Mood Swings' album in 1993, often considered the crown jewel of their early releases.

Enjoying a particular success in the land of the Rising Sun, HAREM SCAREM kept on releasing albums regularly during the 90’s, until they decided to ultimately change their name and music style to Rubber between 1999 and 2001.

In 2002, the band came back to melodic hard rock with the milestone album 'Weight Of The World', which was their first proper release in the European marketplace thanks to their newly signed deal with Frontiers. With the Italian label, HAREM SCAREM released another five original albums (not counting 2006’s 'Human Nature') until they took a break from recording in 2008 after the release of the album 'Hope'.

In December 2012, it was announced that a reunited HAREM SCAREM would headline the 10th Firefest festival in Nottingham, UK, in October 2013, to perform the 'Mood Swings'album in its entirety. The band regrouped and performed at Firefest and moved forward re-recording 'Mood Swings II', a twenty-year anniversary re-recording of their critically acclaimed and fan favorite second album.

The three new songs included on that release showed renewed musical vigor and chemistry. This new energy was confirmed on 2014's 'Thirteen' release, which was a definitive return to the sound that put HAREM SCAREM on the map over 20 years earlier.

Two more acclaimed albums followed: 'United' (2017) and 'Change The World' (2020), where the band presented a new lineup featuring Harry Hess (lead vocals, keyboards), Pete Lesperance (guitars, keyboards), long-time drummer Creighton Doane, Mike Vassos on bass, and backing vocals from original sticksman Darren Smith.

With well over a million records sold in 43 countries and 12 top 40 hits around the globe, the new year will see HAREM SCAREM return and ready to dominate! Check them on tour in Europe in spring!

Wounded Touch Release Double Single "The Damning Variable & "Choleradio" via Smartpunk Records

Smartpunk Records' metal powerhouses Wounded Touch are giving us a taste of new music with a double whammy of new singles, "The Damning Variable" and "Choleradio."

Listen to both new singles here.

Watch the music video for "The Damning Variable" below:

Since their inception, the Michigan outfit has used musical guerilla campaign tactics and a resilient DIY work ethic to make their way onto nationwide festivals and a full UK tour while gaining notoriety from metal's top publications including Metal Hammer, Brooklyn Vegan, and New Noise Magazine.

Speaking about the new single, "The Damning Variable," Wounded Touch says, "The song is about the use and impending mandate of A.I. technology for artwork. It’s scabbing on a soulless and irredeemable level, using technology that should exist to perform mundane tasks and alleviate human suffering, but serves only as a way for talentless tech bro types to penetrate the last bastions of the internet they were gatekept from until now. And they’ll never understand that the flaws, the intentional imperfections and the general bad ideas that come from the imprecise ears, hands and eyes of an artist is what makes it art. A machine (and those typing the prompts) can’t suffer the need to create. It can only replicate. It feels like a pathetic way to differentiate the two, but the song is about the human flaw that makes art what it is. Being able to include our friend TJ from Still Remains on the song was a special moment for our younger selves that also felt like it lent credence to the subject."

ABOUT WOUNDED TOUCH
Even since their infancy, the Michigan outfit Wounded Touch have used musical guerilla campaign tactics to make their way onto the likes of The Fest, Furnace Fest '21 and '23 official pre-shows, SXSW, tour the United Kingdom, and sell out the first pressing of their debut LP while fighting for every inch of ground not given. Bringing influence through the scope of the nostalgic 2000s metalcore/mathcore sound, the band aims to always keep their heads down, remain humble, and push forward through any means necessary if it means continuing to be loud, noisy, and frantic on as many stages as possible.

ABOUT SMARTPUNK RECORDS:
Smartpunk has been a recognizable name in the scene for a long time (Remember that sponsored Warped Tour stage?!). After exchanging several hands and countless ideas of what it could and should be, they decided to start a record label in 2016 with the main idea of focusing solely on reissuing records that have been out of print or never on vinyl. After all, they're a label of vinyl dorks themselves! After releasing Set Your Goals' Mutiny and Gameface's Good, they started to venture into signing newer bands. They actively balance in between many worlds — putting out amazing music from friends and bands that rock, reissuing older titles, and partnering with other incredible labels in our scene and doing exclusive color variants of their releases. Since forming the record label, Smartpunk Records has released timeless albums such as Less Than Jake's Anthem, Nominee's Lowlife, RIVALS' Sad Looks Pretty on Me, Virginity's POPMORTEM, and melodic skate punkers The Swellers' My Everest.

Legendary Arena Rockers HOUSE OF LORDS Release New Single "Cry of the Wicked" + Music Video

HOUSE OF LORDS shares a new single, "Cry of the Wicked", from their latest album 'Full Tilt Overdrive', the band's twelfth studio album, via Frontiers Music Srl. The album is produced by vocalist James Christian and keyboardist Mark Mangold and is an inspired collection that proudly stands among the best in the band’s repertoire. The new single, "Cry of the Wicked", is accompanied by a music video available to view below.

About the song, vocalist James Christian states:

"Drowning in the tears of the innocent, you hear the 'Cry of the Wicked'—retribution unleashed for evil deeds."

HOUSE OF LORDS stands for superb hooks and majestic atmospheres that bring back the memories of their stellar debut album, monumental guitar riffs, and a production to die for. All of these ingredients you will find in abundance on 'Full Tilt Overdrive'.

Watch the Music Video for "Cry of the Wicked" Below:

HOUSE OF LORDS is now formed by the legendary singer James Christian – the sole member who appeared on all the band’s albums - guitarist Jimi Bell, who has been with the band since their return with 'World Upside Down,' the charismatic keyboardist and songwriter Mark Mangold (Touch, Michael Bolton, Drive, She Said) along with Swedish drummer Johan Koleberg (Lions Share, Ignition, Therion). This is the same line-up that appeared on the previous album 'Saints And Sinners' however they are now definitely more gelled and have produced a more focused and extremely ambitious new album with no weak points.

With plans to bring these new songs to stages across Europe and the States, HOUSE OF LORDS continues to be a driving force in the hard rock scene.

Order 'Full Tilt Overdrive' HERE

HOUSE OF LORDS debuted in 1989 with the release of their self-titled album, a record that is still regarded as one of the best arena rock releases of the 1980s. The colossal sound, the soaring vocals of Christian, and the instrumental capabilities of the band (which featured ex-Angel and Giuffria keyboardist Gregg Giuffria, along with luminaries Lanny CordolaChuck Wright, and Ken Mary), were reminiscent of such frontrunners as WhitesnakeDeep Purple and Van Halen and immediately brought the band to the attention of the mainstream music media and the masses of '80s hard rock fans.

With their sophomore release, 'Sahara,' HOUSE OF LORDS had considerable radio and video chart success with their cover of Blind Faith's "Can't Find My Way Home." After a tour with Nelson in 1991, the group disbanded, eventually coming back together with a new lineup (featuring original members Giuffria and Christian) in 1992 with "Demon's Down." With the change in musical climate at the time, HOUSE OF LORDS hibernated until the original lineup came back together in 2000, releasing the controversial "Power And The Myth," an album that featured a sound leaning more towards progressive hard rock with '70s rock influences.

After a short European tour, Christian decided to go back to the trademark arena rock sound of HOUSE OF LORDS, putting together a new lineup with the blessing of founding member Giuffria, who opted out right before the release of "Power And The Myth." New members Jimi Bell on guitars and B.J. Zampa on drums supplied a true powerhouse sound to the fifth studio album, "World Upside Down,' a record that caused a real stir in the hard rock and melodic rock scenes. That album was followed up by the equally impressive "Come To My Kingdom" in 2008, "Cartesian Dreams" in 2009, "Big Money" in 2011, "Precious Metal" in 2014, and "Saint Of The Lost Souls" in 2017.

HOUSE OF LORDS have toured relentlessly in Europe and the States in support of their releases and are a true staple of the hard rock scene on both continents.

HOUSE OF LORDS are:

James Christian - vocals, bass

Jimi Bell - guitars

Mark Mangold - keyboards

Johan Koleberg - drums

Fueled by an insatiable urge to create and collaborate, this heavy metal incarnation seeks to challenge all that they believe to be true with their project, Disciples of Verity (DOV). The band features heavy-hitters such as Corey Glover (Living Colour), Corey Pierce (God Forbid), George Pond (Negative Sky, Swim The Current), Mark Monjoy (Sekond Skyn), and Zack Miranowic (Sekond Skyn, Riversend). This all-star band unleashes an onslaught to the senses with a new sound that can only be described as “a new breed of crossover Metal.”

The band formed just over four years ago after mutual projects brought the five members together. With Pond as the common denominator, having played with each of these artists throughout his career, his songs with Corey Glover were quickly embraced by the others, which evolved into their debut album, Pragmatic Sanction.

Over the next eight months, DOV feverishly cranked out eight heavy, hook-laden songs with one distinct element—their infectious, melodic grooves. Ranging from Hardcore, Metalcore and even Active Rock, the band knew that their debut would be like nothing else in the industry and brought in a veritable “who’s who” of the hard rock and metal industry to up the ante.

Four years have passed since the release of their first single from Pragmatic Sanction. However, now comes the dawn of a new age. They have been quietly working on 12 new tracks for their sophomore album titled NEXUS. The band worked with producer Sahaj Ticcotin, who has worked with Starset, Motley Crue, RA, Bad Wolves, and many more. This monster of a record is set to be released in 2025 through TLG/ZOID, and distributed through Virgin Music Group.

UK Metal Legends RAGING SPEEDHORN Come Out Swinging On New Video "Every Night’s Alright For Fighting"

Corby sextet RAGING SPEEDHORN return with a new, wrestling-themed music video for "Every Night's Alright For Fighting" off of their upcoming album 'Night Wolf', out on March 7th via Spinefarm.

On the video, RAGING SPEEDHORN shares:

“We all love the late 80’s/90’s wrestling era (the Golden age) and this is a video we have wanted to film for a long time. Finally we wrote ‘Every Night’s Alright For Fighting’ and we knew this was the song straight away to pay homage to some of our childhood heroes of the squared circle. The song itself embraces the more classic SPEEDHORN sound, and we’re stoked to finally release our tongue in cheek tribute to the masses. We hope you all like it! Oooooh Yeahhhh!”

Watch the Video for "Every Night's Alright For Fighting" Below:

'Night Wolf' marks another powerful collaboration between RAGING SPEEDHORN and acclaimed producer Russ Russell (Napalm Death, At The Gates, and Dimmu Borgir) at Kettering's Parlour Studios. Having previously helmed the band's 'Lost Ritual' and 'Hard To Kill' albums, Russell helps deliver 10 ferocious, riff-centered tracks that showcase the band's signature intensity.

“I think ‘Night Wolf’ is more of a progression of the last record,” states ringleader Morison, “that's what we've gone for really. When we first got back together after our hiatus, we didn't really know what we wanted to do. [2016’s] ‘Lost Ritual’ came quite quickly, because we didn't have enough time to write it. With [2020’s] ‘Hard To Kill’, we took more time to do it, and with‘Night Wolf’ we've taken a lot of time to do it really, we just wanted to make sure it was right this time. It's probably the longest we've ever taken to write a record; we wanted to make sure it was just right, and we were happy with it before we went in to record.”

Pre-Order 'Night Wolf' HERE

RAGING SPEEDHORN joined the Spinefarm roster in 2024 and sees ‘Night Wolf’ as a new chapter in the continued legacy of RAGING SPEEDHORN; perfectly capturing the magic the band have concocted over their 25-year plus career. Flipping between sludge, crushing doom and high-energy dirt-fueled rock ‘n’ roll riffs, they’ve matured like a fine wine.

Since the release of their eponymous debut in 2000, RAGING SPEEDHORN have enjoyed a career built on unhinged, raucous live shows and albums to boot. They’ve played countless worldwide shows and festivals, sharing stages with Slipknot, Clutch, Biohazard, Enter Shikari, Skindred, earthtone9 and many more.

Notably, SPEEDHORN opened the infamous 2001 UK Ozzfest at Milton Keynes Bowl, playing in front of 50,000 metalheads, received Kerrang! Award nominations and spent a night behind bars in Spain while on tour with Biohazard. Then, there’s the havoc they caused during the 2002 Kerrang! Awards in London, which resulted in Placebo’s Brian Molko joining in on the action and flipping over the band’s alcohol-laden table.

Their last album, ‘Hard To Kill’, was released during the global pandemic on the band’s own label Red Weed Records. Successfully navigating the difficulties that ensued during that time, ‘Hard To Kill’ was RAGING SPEEDHORN’s biggest release in years and made numerous UK chart appearances: #11 Rock & Indie Chart, #7 Indie Breakers Chart, #26 indie charts, and #95 physical charts – the first time the band had chart success since 2001.

RAGING SPEEDHORN are:

Frank Regan – vocals

Daniel Cook – vocals

James Palmer – guitar

Daf Williams – guitar

Andy Gilmour – bass

Gordon Morison – drums

The band's latest album Dark Day's Night is available HERE

The Intemperate Sons emerged onto the rock scene in the summer of 2019 in Dallas, TX, to bring their distinct sound to the genre. A deep love for music brought family members Keith Watson (drums), Jake Watson (guitars) and Max Watson (vocals, guitars, keys) together along with close friend Mark Marks, who provides the groove on bass to unite everything together. The band's sound has been described as a 90's alternative style that is obsessed with the 70's.

Keith is well acquainted with entertaining massive crowds of concert goers and has played with many successful bands in Dallas, such as Gun Hill, Natural Born Thrillers and Agents of Solace, on top of opening for Lynch Mob, Joe Lynn Turner and Sponge. He is the primary lyricist for the band and has written the music for some of their most successful songs, including “Dust to Dust,” “The Color Within,” and “Unrealized.”

Multi-talented and gifted with the ability to play various instruments, Max is also the lead vocalist of the group. Along with being musically dexterous, he has also collaborated with Keith to write lyrics on the released songs “Going Crazy” and “Way Back When.” In the studio, Max usually surmounts expectations and goes above and beyond to prepare prior to a session with his own vocal harmonies.

Jake is the song architect of the Sons and extremely instrumental in the crafting of the music. His inventive ways of bringing lyrics to life in clever ways are unprecedented and fascinating to see in the studio setting. He is a prolific writer of music as well and is credited with helping create the songs “What’s Done is Done,” “Remission,” “Way Back When” and “Wading in the Gray.” Both Max and he play lead guitar on many of the songs as well. The other members of the band fondly refer to him as the “art director” since he enjoys taking charge in those areas for the group.

Prolific and unifying, Mark is an accomplished bass player and well known in Dallas. He was in the regionally successful band, Haggard, and had opened for Sebastian Bach of Skid Row. His input in song writing has been invaluable to the process of creating captivating melodies.

Despite the pandemic putting a pause on many major events, The Intemperate Sons lived up to their name and let nothing hold them back from making music. Constantly hard at work in the studio, they have collaborated with Amir Derakh (Julien-K, Dead by Sunrise, Orgy, Rough Cutt) and Ryan Shuck (Julien-K, Adema, Dead by Sunrise, Orgy). Both have lent their musical talents to various songs and ultimately have brought the Sons on to their label, Frame|Work. This led the band to also recently join the management roster at The Label Group. Ryan worked with Amir to produce the band’s upcoming track, “Game of Keep Away,”and has had a huge impact on the group. He’s been especially influential on Max’s vocal melodies and delivery. Amir also plays guitar on this latest ballad and has been mixing all of the band’s music as well as performing on multiple songs.

Another notable collaboration has been with Tony Franklin (The Firm, Roy Harper, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Whitesnake), primarily on the first album, The Color Within. He has been a valuable friend of the band and has played bass on some of their best tracks from that album, including “Running Man,” “Dust to Dust” and “The Color Within.”

The Intemperate Sons’ take on alternative rock is a dark and powerful concoction of hard rock mixed with folk and grunge concepts. The band has earned a serious reputation for writing and performing tracks that scratch deep into the backbone of the human experience. There is no shortage of darkness in their writing style, which has a retro vibe with many guitar-driven tracks stacked on top of a groovy rhythm section. The heavier style fits perfectly with the two and three-part vocal harmonies that are a huge part of their overall sound. It has been said that musicians that are related form unique sounds and communicate at a frequency only they can understand. This frequency has become engrained in their songwriting, arrangements, guitar melodies and vocal harmonies. The band has been compared to Alice in Chains, Stone Temple Pilots and even R.E.M.

The Intemperate Sons are:

Max Watson (vocals, backing vocals, guitars, keys, bass)

Jake Watson (guitars, bass and backing vocals)

Keith Watson (drums, backing vocals)

Mark Marks (bass)

Bloodywood, torchbearers and metal barrier-breakers hailing from India, are thrilled to announce their new album NU DELHI, out March 21 via Fearless Records. Pre-order it here.

To celebrate the good news, the band has shared the video for new single "TADKA." Watch it below.

With "TADKA," the band offers up another gritty and groove metal anthem with traditional instrumentation. The song packs a nu metal punch, pairing monster truck-sized riffs and hellbound screaming with classic sounds that reflect their culture. Bloodwywood walk the line between genres fearlessly and without a net, and the result is a hard rock banger unlike which you've heard before.

It's quite a tasty track — literally.

"'Tadka' is a metal tribute to Indian food," the band declares. "The word 'Tadka' is a cooking process in Indian cuisine where spices are heated in hot oil or ghee to create a more aromatic flavor... It's about going the extra mile in the pursuit of a greater flavor."

The band continues, "The song highlights the multi-faceted chaos of Indian kitchens that are tasked with perfectly executing centuries-old recipes on a daily basis as well as the immense joy they brings to most people. This is a never-ending love story that connects an entire nation. From the fanciest fine dining restaurants to the simplest road side stall, everyone brings something magical to the table, but the undisputed champion of the cuisine is the Indian household kitchen. When you fuse these recipes and techniques with the love of an Indian family home, the result is unbeatable."

It's the kind of joy that Bloodywood just had to share — so they did.

"Tadka' follows the video for "BEKHAUF," the band's collaboration with BABYMETAL, which was lauded by Consequence, Revolver, Brave Words, Rock Sound, Crunchyroll, and more. Watch the video here. It was a true Asian metal cultural collision that grabbed the scene and beyond by the throat and forced the music world to pay attention!

Bloodywood will spend most of 2025 on tour. All currently confirmed dates are here, with additional dates, including U.S. tour planned for 2025. So stay tuned for more Bloodywood world domination.

International Powerhouse Rock Group W.E.T. Announce New Album 'Apex' Out on March 28th via Frontiers Music SRL

International powerhouse rock group W.E.T. are pleased to announce the release of their highly anticipated new studio album, 'Apex', set for release on March 28th via Frontiers Music Srl. The new track, “Where Are The Heroes Now”, and its accompanying lyric video are out now and available to view below.

Guitarist Erik Mårtensson describes the new single:

“This track embodies everything we love about W.E.T. – a true heavy classic. It was an absolute honor to share vocals with Jeff, backed by our incredible band delivering powerful performance after powerful performance. The epic solo by Magnus Henriksson at the end elevates the song to unimaginable heights. Stellar work by maestros Jeff Scott Soto, Robert Sall, Jamie Borger, Andreas Passmark, and Magnus Henriksson!”

“The song carries a dark yet hopeful tone, addressing the overwhelming challenges and hardships we face, both past and future ones, while expressing a longing for light and guidance amidst the darkness”, he adds.

'Apex', the fifth studio album of the melodic supergroup, is a bold statement in the band's confidence that they have delivered their best work to date. Eleven tracks full of big choruses and hooky melodies, all served on a platter of smooth heaviness.

Watch the Lyric Video for "Where Are The Heroes Now" Below:

The acronym W.E.T. comes from the members’ association with other bands, Robert Säll & Andreas Passmark from Work of Art, Erik Mårtensson & Magnus Henriksson from Eclipse and Jeff Scott Soto from Talisman. And now, for the first time ever, the T is emphasized as Talisman drummer Jamie Borger has joined forces with the band’s original core members.

W.E.T. truly epitomizes what melodic rock has become in the new decade. The key element at the foundation of W.E.T. has always been to create a modern melodic hard rock sound that will drive the genre into the future. Combining powerhouse rhythms and top-notch production (courtesy of Erik Martensson), the music is equally classic and contemporary.

Although a side project to the members’ original bands, over the course of the band’s existence, W.E.T. have reconvened regularly over the last 15 years to produce four studio albums and a live record.

Starting with a genre-defining self-titled debut, Robert Säll (the “W” from Work of Art), Erik Mårtensson (the “E” from Eclipse), and Jeff Scott Soto (the “T” from Talisman) accepted the daunting task to give that debut a follow-up, 'Rise Up'. After that stellar follow-up, their third opus, 'Earthrage', cemented a legacy of music which will stand the test of time.'Retransmission', their latest album, is nothing else than an absolute milestone, which is well in keeping with the tradition established by the three amazing records that have preceded this one.

Erik Mårtensson says:

“It’s always a challenge to find that sweet spot in our calendars when we are all available, not to mention the fact that Jeff lives in California and the rest of us in Sweden. But I also believe that adds to our ambition once we are able to gather. We are all aware that we don’t get too many shots at this, so when we do we gotta make it count.”
