Extortionist Drops New Single "A Grim Disconnect" + Official Music Video (via Unique Leader Records)

Heavy metal mainstays Extortionist have released their latest track "A Grim Disconnect"and the accompanying music video today (via Unique Leader Records). Today's release can be found on the band's upcoming EP 'Devoid', out on Friday, December 1. Speaking about the inspiration behind the track, vocalist Ben Hoagland commented:

"'A Grim Disconnect' is about feeling "disconnected" from everyone and everything I've been involved with, including my own self. Referencing feelings of isolation, dissociation, and overall just feeling out of place. And also the state of confusion and internal conflict that follow with the subjects previously mentioned."

Prior to today, the band announced having signed to their new label Unique Leader Records, and shared "Out of Touch" in celebration of the news. Stream "A Grim Disconnect" here, watch the music video below, and pre-save 'Devoid' here.

Band names go a long way in helping paint a figurative picture in the listener's mind of what to expect before one ever hits “play.” When it comes to Extortionist, you think crime—you think gritty, raw, merciless and unsavory and maybe, just maybe, a little sprinkling of suaveness. When it comes to the Pacific Northwest’s resident moshslingers, those premonitions from their name are exactly what you get. As a band who have proven themselves exemplary at styles of heavy music ranging from downtempo deathcore to grunge-tinted metal, Extortionist are more than just a jack-of-all-trades; they’re masters. Utilizing bold, roaring guitars overtop crushing, steamrolling percussion and vocals that run the gamut from guttural to grating, pitched singing and topped off with—you guessed it—a now-infamous dodgeball-smack snare, Extortionist have proven that not only are they incredible at what they do, they’re a band that the heavy scene just can’t go without.

Emerging from the relatively understated pastures and prairies of Coeur d’Alene in early 2013, to say Extortionist have been on a journey since their inception would be an understatement. With "The Black Sheep" instantly earning them notoriety with its combination of feral grooves and eviscerating breakdowns, Extortionist proved themselves early on as prodigal masters of all things punishingly heavy. As the band grew and gained more experience on the road in light of the success of their debut EP, their style and dynamic grew as well. After nearly four years of touring and writing, Extortionist would unleash 'The Decline' in 2017, a band that saw their breed of brutalizing deathcore hybridized with riff-heavy metalcore and more introspective lyrics that tackled suicidal ideation and substance abuse. 'The Decline' was met with immense critical praise and continued to open up larger opportunities for the Northwestern act, ultimately earning them multiple co-headlining tours from coast to coast, and a spot on Stay Sick Records, alongside other up-and-coming heavyweights like SPITE and Bodysnatcher. Barely a year and a half after their signing, the band announced their sophomore full-length release, 'Sever the Cord', which saw them experimenting with the inclusion of grunge and alternative influences, adding even more depth and grit to their dynamic. Their sophomore album earned them not only critical acclaim, but nationwide tours alongside The Browning, Betraying the Martyrs, Lorna Shore and First Blood. 'Sever the Cord' was followed shortly thereafter by an eponymous EP which saw them diving deeper into a more exploratory realm of metalcore, colliding ferocious riffs into moments of warm, nostalgic melody. While their self-titled release was widely heralded as the band’s strongest work to date, was declared their Swan Song, as in the weeks that followed towards the back-end of Summer 2019, Extortionist announced their dissolution.

That isn’t the end of Extortionist’s story, however. As 2019 gave way into 2020 and the chaotic months that followed, the heavy music community felt the band’s absence all too strongly. In the early months of 2021, Extortionist announced their return with a series of shows in Spokane, Washington alongside AVOID and Seconds Ago as well as a new single, “Once More in Torment”. Once more highlighting the seamless blend of raunchy aggression and groove-heavy catchiness that only Extortionist can provide, the band’s comeback track is a strong reminder of just how missed they were throughout their nearly two-year absence. Frontman and founding member Benjamin Hoagland states “This is the best place we’ve ever been in as a band...Extortionist lives, and we’re here to stay.” Indeed, with a full-length record in the works and a ferocious return to live performance already underway, it would seem that Exortionist’s relative break was only a brief moment with which to collect themselves before reasserting their dominance over the contemporary metalcore scene. - Connor Welsh

TRISTAN TRITT FORGES HIS OWN PATH AND CHALLENGES SOCIAL MEDIA CULTURE WITH NEW SINGLE “NO FILTER”

Rock singer-songwriter Tristan Tritt is today releasing his new single “No Filter”. The new song follows his other 2023 release “Nervous System Overload”

“No Filter” illuminates the dynamic of Tristan’s approach. On the track, clean guitar wraps around a glitchy beat. Simultaneously, he stretches his vocal range, fluttering between a laid back flow and breathy inflection. The momentum gives way to an infectious and impactful refrain punctuated by a fret-burning guitar lead.

Lyrically, “No Filter” questions the obsession many people have with social media. Tristan says, “So many of our interactions are based on vanity. In reality, who you are on social media is completely different from who you are in real life. There's an actual filter in place, and we play the game by commenting and pretending. I think it’s not just damaging for kids, but adults who constantly scroll through social media without understanding the majority of what they’re looking at is artificial. I’m seeing beyond the façade.”

Tristan has been forging his own lane with his grunge-tinged hard rock sound. His influences range and are inspired by everything from Kid Cudi to Black Sabbath.

Tristan will be releasing more new music in 2024 and will announce new tour dates in the near future.

Radiobot feat. Brett Scallions, Billy Harvey and Eddie Wohl Release Re-Imagined Version of Bob Dylan's "Subterranean Homesick Blues" via The Label Group/ Virgin Music Group

Introducing Radiobot, a dynamic musical ensemble comprising the talented members Brett Scallions, Billy Harvey, and Eddie Wohl. This exciting band has unveiled their re-imagining of Bob Dylan's classic track, "Subterranean Homesick Blues," and it's now available on all major music platforms via The Label Group/Virgin Music Group.

Radiobot is all set to make their mark in the music industry with their original debut single, "This World's On Fire," which is scheduled for release on December 8th. Get an exclusive sneak peek and pre-save this electrifying track by following this link: https://ffm.to/radiobot-thisworldsonfire

“For us, Bob Dylan is such a rock ‘n’ roll lyricist, we wanted to pay tribute by turning over one with a snarl and swagger. The video is an homage to Dylans Alley video, and for it, Brett meticulously re-created all of the cards by hand,” says the band.

"Find a group of people who challenge and inspire you, spend a lot of time with them, and it will change your life." – Amy Poehler

RadioBot is a writing trio consisting of Brett Scallions, Billy Harvey, and Eddie Wohl. They got together for the first time in 2016, when Eddie invited Brett and Billy to his studio for a writing session. Though Brett and Billy had just met, Eddie’s suspicions were spot-on: after just a few days in a room, the trio had three new songs to share. (“It’s On,” “New Best Friend,” and “Rolling On.”) Despite the undeniable chemistry, however, conflicting commitments and touring schedules forced Radiobot into a temporary hiatus shortly thereafter.

Flash forward to 2020. Lockdown. Isolation. Life changed for everyone on the planet. Being in the same room is how music is made…right?!

This time, RadioBot refused to let anything get in their way. The project was revving up again, and even distance proved a surmountable hurdle. With Billy in Nashville and Eddie and Brett both in California, the group decided to pursue the project virtually, via Zoom and FaceTime calls. Their mentality: “never let anyone tell you that you have to be in a room together to write or record an album.” They started writing, and before you know it, they had written—and recorded—18 songs.

The age of the HOME STUDIO.

“Everything starts with a Billy riff,” Brett said of their writing process. “After we establish the main riff of the song, we add more parts as needed, all while creating vocal melodies. Once we have the song arranged, I’ll take it and start laying down the drums. After the drums are the way we want them, I send the drum tracks to Billy, and he starts layering his guitar parts. We just keep adding what is needed until we feel like the song is finished.”

Stay tuned for the forthcoming albums CONCRETE and DESERT later this year.

Brett Scallions is best known as the original lead singer of the rock band Fuel. Brett released 4 albums with the band and sold over 5 million albums worldwide. He also toured the world singing The Doors catalog with Ray Manzarek and Robby Krieger of The Doors. Brett was quoted as saying, _“We all try our parent’s shoes on at some point in our lives. It’s been nice to see what Jim’s felt like.” Other projects Brett has worked on include The X’s, Circus Diablo, and World Fire Brigade. He has performed with many of the top performers in the world including Slash, Dave Navarro, Tom Morrello, Mike McCready, Dee Snider, DMC, and Glen Campbell.

“Billy Harvey is the most famous person you’ve never heard of.” — AJ Croce.

A caffeine-addled do-it-yourselfer, Billy Harvey has navigated his career by quietly directing, editing, recording, and producing everything in sight. He’s produced records for artists like Crystal Bowersox (finalist on season nine of American Idol), Bob Schneider, Pat Byrne (winner of the first series of The Voice of Ireland), Charlie Mars, and Steve Poltz, to name a few.

He has also worked steadily as a side man, accompanying the likes of Patty Griffin, Kim Richey, The Forest Rangers, and The Courtyard Hounds.

He also played guitar in the hair band FLAME, if you want a chuckle.

Los Angeles based Eddie Wohl is a five time Emmy Award winning songwriter, composer, producer & mixer, whose projects have sold over 6 million units. As an artist he was signed to Epic, Elektra, Mercury/Island and had a production deal with Roadrunner Records. Growing up on the East Coast, Wohl was in his first band at age 15 and signed to his first record deal at the age of 25. Wohl’s major influences growing up included Black Sabbath, Stevie Wonder, Public Enemy and McCoy Tyner. Coming out of the NYC club/band scene he has spent many years honing his craft as a world- class songwriter and producer. In 1999 Wohl, along with his partners, launched the iconic New York based Scrap 60 Productions, which was responsible for producing such acts such as Anthrax, Ill Nino and H2O, to name a few.

His producing credits include a range of metal greats Fuel, Anthrax, Smile Empty Soul to glam punker Jesse Mallin and pop artist/American Idol judge Kara Dioguardi. Records that he's produced embody performances by Bruce Springsteen, Robby Krieger, Roger Daltrey, Chino Moreno, Jakob Dylan, Josh Homme, Chris Shiflett, Jada Pinkett Smith and Dimebag Darrell.

As a composer Wohl has received five Emmy Awards for his work on his NBC San Diego and Washington DC Olympic and news promos. Having had numerous song placements on TV, including Superbowl XLVII, The CBS Superbowl Pre-Game show, “CBS Super Bowl 50th Anniversary” spots the NFL on CBS, NBA on NBC, The Rio Olympics, The NHL, NCAA Basketball, PGA Golf on CBS and The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson.

Wohl’s diverse music influences, collaborations and background allow for a unique approach to his craft.

AMARANTHE - 🚀Release New Single 'Outer Dimensions' From Upcoming Album The Catalyst

Today, Swedish metal virtuosos AMARANTHE break through the grey November clouds, ready to cure your seasonal blues with their new uplifting track 'Outer Dimensions'!
Once again, high energy vibes paired with a catchy chorus and garnished with some heavy riffs and impressive growls, this song is determined to live up to its name and take the listener to higher spaces.

AMARANTHE's Olof Mörck states: "Dimensions and galaxies collide in our latest single 'Outer Dimensions', which takes you on a journey from the introspective and obscure, all the way to a sparkling cosmos of an epic chorus! We feel that it showcases 'The Catalyst's diversity, all in one track while remaining very recognizably AMARANTHE. The song is masterfully counterpointed by a tour de force of a video, directed by long-time collaborator Patric Ullaeus - so let us bring you the furthest reaches of your imagination with 'Outer Dimensions' soon!"

'Outer Dimensions' is the third single from AMARANTHE's forthcoming album The Catalyst, that will see the light of the day on February 23rd, 2024, via Nuclear Blast Records. The album will be available digitally and in different physical formats including CD, Vinyl, a 2CD Special Edition, and a band-exclusive Vinyl that will come with a signed poster.
Presave or preorder your format of choice here:
https://amaranthe.bfan.link/the-catalyst.a01

'Outer Dimensions' comes with a fantastic new video that the band released today. Watch it below.

The Catalyst is the most conceptually coherent piece of work in AMARANTHE's storied history. Dedicated to notions of transformation and revelation, it delves deeper than any previous album, as Olof Mörck explains.

"We’ve done these things before, but we’ve never been as theatrical as we have this time," Mörck grins. "In fact, we all questioned whether we went too far this time, but I also figured that this band was always this way. Literally, the first seconds of our first video was a big explosion! But yes, The Catalyst is more theatrical than ever. We’ve never really been symphonic or orchestral before, but this time we just thought why not? Because we can! The key to this album is that we let go of the boundaries and decided to do something even more adventurous."

The Catalyst represents the culmination of 15 years of hard work and the breathless pursuit of a wholly original musical vision. Change is inevitable. Victory is assured.

Formed in 2008, AMARANTHE walked their own unique path from the start. With a sound that combined the sharpest, cutting edges of melodic metal, electronic rock and razor-sharp pop, their impact was immediate and undeniable. Kicking off with their self-titled debut in 2011, the Swedes blazed a trail through the European metal scene and beyond, swiftly establishing themselves as a dazzling one-off, not least due to the unprecedented triple vocal attack that paired clean tones with exquisite melodic sensibilities and feral growls. Over the next few years, the sextet steadily grew in stature, releasing a series of praised studio records that jabbed persistently at the boundaries of modern metal.

AMARANTHE is:
Elize Ryd | vocals
Mikael Sehlin I growls
Nils Molin | vocals
Olof Mörck | guitars, keyboards
Johan Andreassen | bass
Morten Løwe Sørensen | drums

"Ones to Watch" Fave Hunter Oliveri Drops "Spiraling Out" Video

Hunter Oliveri, the 17-year-old talent recently tipped by Ones to Watch, has shared the video for his new single "Spiraling Out." Watch it below

"'Spiraling Out' is a song that carries multiple emotions, thoughts, and feelings," the artist offers. "It's about what it's like when your feelings become overwhelming or unmanageable. You start to feel a spiral of negative emotions, thoughts, and behaviors. And sometimes, it can feel like being caught in a cycle of stress, anxiety, or despair. It's like you're losing control of everything and things are getting worse. However, the song is about recognizing these emotions or feelings, and working against them or trying to fight off the negative and trying to stay positive. It reminds you that you have to look for the best in every situation to work to try and stay happy."

It's a deeply self-aware song from a teenager who is still making sense of himself — who he is, what he stands for, where his life is going. He doesn't arrive as the next ready-made rock star action figure cast in plastic. There is an unquestionable realness about the way he makes sense of life through his music. But he exhibits a surety of mind beyond his years, to create music that connects and inspires, and that will stoke the growing fire of rock's recent renaissance.

Oliver released "
Dumb," his debut single for new label Spinefarm, in September.

The two songs offer an introduction into the heart of an artist about to be everywhere in 2024.

ABOUT HUNTER OLIVERI:
So what else do you need to know about Hunter Oliveri, whose previous single "Kids" was tipped by Pigeons + Planes? Plenty!

His songs channel the alternative and grunge blueprint of his musical heroes — like Chris Cornell and Soundgarden, Billy Corgan and the Smashing Pumpkins — imbued with the playful opaqueness of Kurt Cobain's lyricism and the easy slacker hooks of Weezer.

Like all of Oliveri's music, it speaks to the messiness of growing up. It sounds exactly like that, too. He simply writes what he knows.

There are songs about partying too hard and songs about loving too much; songs about last night's headrush highs and the morning-after's anxious comedown. There are songs for when you seek the comfort of relatability, and there are songs for when you want to simply say "fuck it all."

They are the product of the humble authenticity of someone who's grown up in a place no different to a million others the world over. Most have never heard of Paso Robles, CA, and might never again. There's sunshine, strip malls, and vineyards that outnumber venues ten to one, where the nearby underground music scene of San Luis Obispo a few miles down the road is more accessible than anything resembling the bright lights of L.A. two hours to the south or San Francisco up north. "It's a boring city, but we make the most of it," Oliveri shrugs. "We'll go skating, or hang out and smoke. And anyway, it's fun to go moshing in someone's basement."

It's no surprise, then, that Oliveri is used to creating more interesting scenes than those that existed outside his window. As a kid, he would do so in the stories he dreamt up in his bedroom. "I like writing stories about worlds I'd want to live in," he says, "which made my own world seem so much bigger."

Such creativity inevitably morphed into songwriting in his early teenage years — though music had long since embedded itself within him. "I was probably four years old when I first heard 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' around my parents’ house," he recalls of music's omnipresence in his life. "I never knew the name of the song but every time I heard it, I'd be like, shit, it's that song. It would give me this majestic feeling." He laughs that his mom holds a video recording of her son gamely plucking through a rendition of a Metallica song (it was the epic "One") at his Kindergarten graduation performance. His dad — an avid fan of Korn and Tool — meanwhile tells him that his parents met at Woodstock; not the peace-and-love of Woodstock '69, but, more aptly, the confusion-and-chaos of Woodstock '99.

A chance meeting at age 14 with a local producer's father while in a coffee shop with his grandpa was the first domino to fall in Oliveri's music story. The rest is a history still to be written. "I've been so incredibly lucky, but I've manifested this, too," he says. "I've always known writing music would be my life. I just had to make it happen. It was hard to find kids around my city that played instruments and wanted to be in a band, but I've been writing songs every day in my bedroom since I was maybe 13 years old. It takes me to a different place."

Those songs are anthems for those disassociated with the world on their doorstep, the soundtrack to growing up marooned inside a digital world that Oliveri speaks of with disdain as "rotting people’s brains."

"I want to bring people into my world through my music," he adds. "I want people to feel something when they listen to my music, and to relate to me, and for me to be a friend and an outlet for them."

And as for everything else?

Well, he'll figure it out as he goes.

VIPASSI Shift Into the Light on "Phainesthai"

VIPASSI laid a foundation on their debut album 'Śūnyatā' in 2017.

Originally formed as a project between drummer Daniel Presland (ex-Ne Obliviscaris, Black Lava, Virvum) and guitarist Ben Boyle (Black Lava, Hadal Maw, AMDBL) to explore new concepts and sounds not currently engaged by their other projects, the band has since grown to add fretless bassist Arran McSporran (Virvum, Seven7, Cosmitorium) & additional guitarist Benjamin Baret (Ne Obliviscaris, Maer).

Today, Vipassi are releasing "Phainesthai", the first single off 'Lightless'. Their new album continues this intricate all-instrumental project. Each player isn't just delivering notes. Instead the band are tuning into a symphony of emotions, inviting you inside a sonic universe where you can write the story.

"Phainesthai' serves as the centrepiece and keystone of the album", says Vipassi. " The song itself celebrates phenomenon in all its forms. It's also a perfect blend and introduction to the album's sounds and motifs".

Watch the enigmatic music video for "Phainesthai" below.

'Lightless' comes out January 26, 2024.

Pre-order:

In Buddhist tradition, VIPASSI is the twenty-second of the twenty-eight Buddhas. Etymologically, the name has its roots in clear vision – a being of extreme contemplation. The band of the same name is a world-spnning instrumental extreme metal band from the lands of Australia, France and the UK.

With members of acts such as Ne Obliviscaris, Black Lava, Hadal Maw & Virvum, their work on the 2017 debut album ‘Sunyata’, which has a loose signification of Emptiness or Void, set the grounds for a technically impressive and fully instrumental exploration of sonic textures in what can best be described as – a divine experience reaching the depths of the human soul.

Originally made as a project between Daniel Presland (Drums) and Ben Boyle (Guitars) as far back as 2007 to explore new concepts and sounds not currently engaged by their projects at the time, the band has since then grown and expanded to an international connection of like-minded musicians and virtuosos with Arran McSporran (Fretless Bass) and Benjamin Baret (Guitars).

Further exploring their labyrinthine textures and layers of sounds, the band VIPASSIis back with their sophomore album ‘Lightless’. The album shifts from the realm of the void towards a clash of light and dark – and sees the band expanding into even more technical and experimental realms, pushing the limits of their own ideas and abilities to heights unimagined when the band began all those years ago.

Lineup
Daniel Presland - Drums
Ben Boyle - Guitars & Synths
Arran McSporran - Fretless Bass
Benjamin Baret - Guitar Solos

Enterprise Earth Release New Single "The Reaper's Servant" featuring Darius Tehrani (Spite) + Official Music Video

"Offering an initial glimpse of the devastation packaged onto the project, Enterprise Earth have shared an eviscerating first single in "King of Ruination" featuring Ben Duerr from Shadow of Intent. Coupled with a unnerving visual directed by Nick Chance, the future for Enterprise Earth couldn't look brighter." - Knotfest.com

"The djent is strong in the Washington deathcore stalwarts' latest, which is all ultra-low-tuned chug, pitch-shifter squeals and syncopated stop-start riffs that will flip your stomach - not to mention a solo so technical and unsettling it would make Fredrik Thordendal jealous." - Guitar World

"... "King of Ruination", a sprawling, technical, foreboding piece of dark magic. Bile-drenched one moment, beautifully crafted the next, it's an incredible place to kick off such a thoughtful and thrilling chapter." - idobi Radio

Enterprise Earth have released their latest heavy hitter "The Reaper's Servant" featuring the inimitable Darius Tehrani from Spite. Today's drop is taken from the band's forthcoming new album 'Death: An Anthology'out on Friday, February 2 (via MNRK Heavy). Speaking on today's news, Enterprise Earth commented:

"'Reaper's' is definitely for the real metalheads out there. Overall, I'd say this is the most aggressive and straight-to-the-point track on [Death: An Anthology] as it comes out of the gate breathing fire and does not let up until it's over. We were elated to have Darius on the track as he absolutely nailed the vibe for his part. His unmistakable voice and energy really sent the whole track to a new level of confidence and power."

Prior to today, the band unleashed "King of Ruination" (ft. Ben Duerr) which alongside the forthcoming album announcement, garnered high praise and palpable excitement from the likes of Loudwire, Guitar World, Knotfest.com, idobi Radio, Metal Injection, Lambgoat, amongst many others. Stream "The Reaper's Servant" (ft. Darius Tehrani) here, watch the official music video below, and pre-save 'Death: An Anthology' here. Don't miss your chance to snag the album in "Black Ice" and "Inferno" vinyl formats (exclusive to the band and available here), as well as "Ghostly" and "Copper Nugget" vinyl formats through the MNRK Heavy Shop at the link here.

More than anything else, we share death in common. This universal eventuality unites us. In an evolutionary sense, it effectively ensures our equality. No matter who you are, you will die. Enterprise Earth explore death from a different perspective altogether. Rather than turn away from it, the U.S. quartet—Gabe Mangold [guitar, backing vocals, production], Brandon Zackey [drums], Travis Worland [vocals], and Dakota Johnson [bass]—face it head-on with their fifth full-length offering, DEATH: AN ANTHOLOGY [MNRK HEAVY]. Against an apocalyptic soundtrack of battering ram double bass drums, gut-punching guitars, and disarmingly dynamic vocals, the group present their most immersive and inimitable vision yet.

“The album is tied together by the overarching concept of death,” Travis states. “It’s easy to think of death as a separation of consciousness from the body, but we’re delving into the death of self, individuality, and relationships—whether romantic or platonic. Dying takes many forms. I grew up extremely religious, so death has always been on my mind. In any religion, the afterlife is the umbrella for all of your beliefs. I tend to think of death from a more philosophical standpoint these days.”

The band have always incited mosh pits and thought in equal measure. Since emerging during 2014, Enterprise Earth have logged two back-to-back debuts in the Top 10 of the Billboard Heatseekers Albums Chart, while Loudwire cited Luciferousamong the “50 Best Metal Albums of 2019.” Hysteria Mag heralded 2022’s The Chosen as “a veritable masterclass in experimentation and reinvention that shows a highly skilled band transcending its roots and making steps to become leaders of a field still being created,” while Metal Injection summed it up as “a strong statement.” Plus having toured with the likes of Thy Art Is Murder, Dying Fetus, Chelsea Grin, Fit For An Autopsy, Fallujah, Within Destruction, and more.

With Gabe once again in the producer’s chair, the musicians holed up in a Lake Tahoe cabin for nine days where they penned the bulk of DEATH: AN ANTHOLOGY. It marked the first time this lineup wrote together (and in-person) as well as with Travison vocal duties.

“We fed off one another’s energy,” recalls Gabe. “These songs felt cohesive because of that. We all had a hand in the composition.”

In the end, death may be inevitable, but you can rely on Enterprise Earth for a release in the meantime.

“We wanted to make an album that feels like who we are as a collective,” the band agreed. “On the one hand, we hope you have fun listening to it. On the other, just know, ‘Death is real and it comes for us all’. One day, we won’t be here anymore. While we’re alive, we want to enjoy it.”

Enterprise Earth Is:

Gabe Mangold [guitar, backing vocals, production]

Travis Worland [vocals]

Brandon Zackey [drums]

Dakota Johnson [bass]

ABOUT DARKEST HOUR:
Darkest Hour, as a whole, have weathered time, trends, and tides of change and stand stronger nearly three decades since their formation. Their unique sonic style incorporates death metal exorcisms, thrash recklessness, hardcore punk attitude, and melodic catharsis at the speed of a circle pit.

"The record's theme centers around the duality of survival while embracing rebirth,'" says Schleibaum. "We keep killing parts of ourselves to make new parts and survive. The story of the record is the story of the band. We're still here, and we're giving the world a body of work that's representative of our music today. We've realized relationships, tours, good times, everything that seems to give life meaning, is terminal — and will inevitably end. Nevertheless, we're 46-year-old dudes who love this music enough to put up with the trials and tribulations of being artists in a touring band."

Darkest Hour clawed their way out of the DMV area in 1995. Throughout the ensuing years, they tallied tens of millions of streams and quietly built a diehard fan base. Canvasing the globe, they packed thousands of shows and touched down on every continent, save Antarctica. Along the way, they notably notched five Top 3 debuts on the Billboard Heatseekers Albums Chart. 2017's Godless Prophets & the Migrant Flora marked the group's third #1 bow on the latter in addition to crashing the Top 10 of the Top Vinyl Albums Chart. It also represented a creative and critical high watermark. Beyond praise from Revolver, EXCLAIM!, and more, MetalSucks rated it a rare perfect score of "5-out-of-5" and hailed it as "the best album Darkest Hour have ever made." New Noise cited it as "one of the best of 2017," and Metal Hammer dubbed it "a monumental return." PopMatters crowned it "a masterclass in following your beliefs no matter where they might take you."

I See Stars Drop New Single "D4MAGE DONE" + Official Music Video (via Sumerian Records)

Electronic hardcore pioneers I See Stars have dropped their latest track "D4MAGE DONE" and the accompanying music video today (via Sumerian Records). When asked about the inspiration behind today's release, vocalist Devin Oliver shared:

“'D4MAGE DONE' delves deep into our modern addiction to technology, revealing the unsettling truth that our constant connection comes at a price. We drew a comparison between the dim cerulean blue lights and the act of staring at the sun, symbolizing how they blind us to the reality that, by feeding our addiction, someone is constantly watching..”

Prior to today, I See Stars released their double-single "Anomaly" and "Drift" and most recently, "are we 3ven?", which altogether have clocked up a staggering 5.3 million streams on Spotify alone and over 851,000 views on YouTube. The band also recently concluded their run with Bad Omens and ERRA on the entirely sold-out CONCRETE FOREVER North American Tour. Stream "D4MAGE DONE" here and watch the official music video below.

Swedish Black ‘n’ Rollers The Vice are thrilled to announce the release of their highly anticipated new album Dead Canary Run. The album will be released via Noble Demon on January 19 and will mark the first time in The Vice's history that their music will be available on vinyl. Listen to the first single "Grant Me Your Peace" below.

Building upon the foundations set by their previous work - the band's unique blend of filthy rock, blackened metal, and death-ridden pop - Dead Canary Run takes listeners down a deranged path that The Vice has masterfully crafted over the years. With an eclectic mix of genres thriving like never before, the album promises to captivate fans with its raw energy and infectious melodies. While some elements may feel familiar, there are numerous new levels that The Vice has reached with this upcoming offering. Collaborating with an old partner in crime, Joel Öhman, who added his piano skills to a couple of songs, The Vice emerged from studio "Underjord" late this Summer with an album they couldn't be more proud of. Dead Canary Run serves as a testament to the band's growth since their recent full-length album White Teeth Rebellion, showcasing their passion and determination, with their amps cranked up to 11.

In preparation for the album release, The Vice is currently in full rehearsal-mode, gearing up for an exciting lineup of live performances in 2024. While maintaining their signature style, the upcoming chapter of the band promises to be both familiar and completely different - just fucking better.

The band comments: "The release of our third album 'Dead Canary Run' is closing in and as a first peek under its skirt we present 'Grant me your peace'. And what better way to introduce a song about obliterating the past?! Drenched in the blood and sweat we've put into this record it takes our mean blend of blackened metal, sinister pop and ferocious rock n roll to new territories once again. So enjoy and keep your eyes out for the full album in a couple of months.“

HELFRÓ Release "Traðkandi Blómin í eigin Hjartagarði"

Icelandic black metal ensemble HELFRÓ are back with Tálgröf, an album that's inspired by the dark manifestations of the human mind. The sickness of humankind is explored through intense rhythmic passages, fusing the extremities of traditional death metal together with sombre, introspective lyrical convictions.

The album's third single, 'Traðkandi Blómin í eigin Hjartagarði' (meaning: "Trampling the Flowers in Your Own Heart's Garden"), absolutely crushes with destructive blast beats, chugging death metal riffs and tremolo-picked melodies. It's another Tálgröf track that explores the facets of humanity's worst killers. The numbing of one's emotions is placed at the forefront in its chilling lyricism.

"We explore the idea of consciously numbing yourself of any positive emotion in preparation of committing acts that go against the fundamental laws of humanism & your own very nature," says vocalist Ragnar Sverrisson. "The persona is exposing themselves to violence and indifference, poisoning themselves with mind-altering substances while cutting off human contact and sleep depriving themselves."

The sinister new single is a maelstrom that explodes into a crushing middle section before twisting around a glorious amalgamation of death metal riffing & black metal blasting.

Watch the visualizer for 'Traðkandi Blómin í eigin Hjartagarði' below.

Tálgröf comes out December 1.

Formed amidst the haunting landscapes of Iceland, HELFRÓ is a formidable force in the world of blackened death metal. With their relentless aggression, atmospheric soundscapes, and compelling songwriting, they have carved their own path in the metal scene.

The journey of HELFRÓ began when guitarist and songwriter Ragnar Sverrisson sought to bring his musical visions to life, Drawing inspiration from the bleakness of Icelandic winters, the mysticism of nature, and the chaos of the human experience. HELFRÓ's debut album, aptly titled "Helfró", was released in 2020, marking the band's official entry into the world of extreme metal. With a relentless barrage of blast beats, crushing riffs, and haunting melodies, the album showcased their ability to seamlessly blend aggression and atmosphere.

Evolving with the advent of the sophomore album, Tálgröf, listeners can expect even more ferocity as HELFRÓ dives deeper into death metal territory while not straying to far from the signature ice-cold climactic tremolo riffing notable of their previous work. Characterized by its ferocity, the new album also carries introspective and thought-provoking themes, reflecting the band members' willingness to explore the depths of the human experience. HELFRÓ is destined to leave an impact on the realm of extreme music, captivating audiences with their unique brand of Icelandic metal.

Season of Mist is partnering with the musicians of SAVAGE LANDS. Through this partnership, we'll bang our heads together to support forests in Costa Rica. This is the first time a record label will be partnering & releasing the music of a non-profit organization.

After seeing first-hand how deforestation threatens Costa Rica's ecosystem, two angry metalheads started their own non-profit organization.  Named after their joint passion for savage heavy metal and wildlife preservation, SAVAGE LANDS was founded in 2022 by Megadeth drummer Dirk Verbeuren and musician-turned-activist Sylvain Demercastel, who's a Costa Rica resident.

"Hearing the chainsaw on a daily basis, because of a recent real estate fever destroying Costa Rica's ecosystem, we thought it was time to start a new type of action", says Sylvain. "We are reaching out to this great active community of metalheads."

Today, SAVAGE LANDS are debuting their first single. "The Last Howl" features Andres Kisser (Sepultura) and John Tardy (Obituary). 100% of the song's royalties will go toward protecting threatened lands from deforestation.

Fittingly, "The Last Howl" is a howling tribute to the howler monkey, an endangered species in Costa Rica. Verbeuren hammers out thunderous fills and pinging cymbals, while Sylvain rains down heavy pangs of distortion.

"The Last Howl" packs added fury thanks to some special guests. Sepultura guitarist Andreas Kisser rips off not one, but two acrobatic solos, and swamp king John Tardy (Obituary) unleashes his inner primate with some ferocious, spit-flinging growls.

"When Dirk first received the instrumental demo, he immediately had John Tardy in his mind for some vocals." Says Sylvain. "Making the link between the howler monkey's scream and the more melodic chorus of the song.

"Less than 24 hours after reaching out to John through a common friend, we received a YES from Tardy, and knew it was going to be the start of a great adventure."

Artists occasionally support causes through donations to organizations. With SAVAGE LANDS, Megadeth drummer Dirk Verbeuren teamed up with his guitar-wielding friend Sylvain Demercastel to create their own US 501(c)3 non-profit.

SAVAGE LANDS raises money for reforestation & the creation of sanctuaries free of human destruction. Using their own royalties, donations and other fundraising efforts, the organization builds nature sanctuaries, establishes green zones and other land preservation projects. They partner with other non-profits, scientists and forest engineers, as well as Decibel Magazine and Season of Mist.

"If you want to make a difference, take action! Our greatest hope with SAVAGE LANDS is that it will inspire you to join us, and if you can, to start your own initiative to help preserve animals, forests, and our planet", says Dirk.
