Kai Hansen to Release "Born With A Hammer" on 9/18 + Shares "Feeding the Beast" Video

Kai Hansen is one of the defining figures in heavy metal.

As co-founder of Helloween and founder of Gamma Ray, he shaped power metal into a global force and created a sound that continues to drive the genre today.

Now, Hansen returns with Born With A Hammer, his first solo album since Kai Hansen & Friends' XXX – Three Decades In Metal, is set for release on September 18 on earMUSIC.

Raw, energetic, rebellious and unmistakably personal, Born With A Hammer brings together every side of Hansen's musical identity. Across 10 songs, the album moves between powerful heavy metal, punk attitude, hard rock drive, melodic hooks, and pure guitar-driven energy, carried by the songwriting instincts, guitar work, and unmistakable voice that have made Kai Hansen one of metal's most distinctive artists. Written without compromise and fueled by pure passion for heavy music, Born With A Hammer captures Hansen at full creative force: Direct, alive and unmistakably metal.

The album was produced by Eike Freese and recorded with a band that brings both firepower and history to the project. Alongside Freese on guitar, the lineup features Alexander Dietz (Heaven Shall Burn) on guitar and Dan Wilding (Carcass) on drums, who already stood alongside Hansen on XXX – Three Decades In Metal, plus Tim Hansen (Induction) on guitar.

Released today alongside the album announcement, "Feeding The Beast" is the first single and opening track from Born With A Hammer, accompanied by an official music video. Driven by razor-sharp riffs, anthemic melodies, and relentless energy, the song delivers a direct and powerful first taste of the album.

Jah Wobble & Tian Qiyi unleash psychedelic Beatles reimagining with 'Tomorrow Never Knows', first glimpse of 'Mystic Liverpool' album

East London bassist and producer Jah Wobble and Liverpool-based ethno-psychedelic duo Tian Qiyi present their new single 'Tomorrow Never Knows', the first offering from the forthcoming album 'Mystic Liverpool: The Beatles' Psychedelic Psongbook', out August 14th via Cherry Red Records and Wobble's label 30 Hertz. A deeply personal reimagining of The Beatles’ psychedelic period, these songs are framed within a soundscape of Chinese, Mongolian and dub traditions.

'Tomorrow Never Knows' - the closing track on The Beatles' 1966 album 'Revolver' - may have been penned by John Lennon and Paul McCartney (with title lifted from a phrase coined by Ringo Starr), but Jah Wobble (aka John Wardle) and his sons John T Wardle and Charlie Wardle (aka Tian Qiyi) have made this song uniquely their own.

Jah Wobble is a founding member of Public Image Ltd (PiL) and formed Invaders of the Heart in 1982. In his 50-year career, he has achieved chart success, a Mercury Music Prize nomination and a rich discography. He has collaborated with Can's Holger Czukay, Jaki Liebezeit, U2's The Edge and producer François Kevorkian, in addition to Sinéad O’Connor, Massive Attack, Ginger Baker, Björk, Brian Eno, Pharoah Sanders and, most recently, Horace Andy on his 'Timeless Roots' album, Ken Boothe on his 'Old Fashioned Ways' album, and Jon Klein on the 'Automated Paradise' album.

Tian Qiyi takes their name from John T Wardle and Charlie Wardle's Chinese middle names, Tian Qi and Tian Yi. Meshing British, Chinese, Mongolian and dub traditions, their music bridges cultures to forge a sound that also weaves in post-punk and experimental production, their sound imbued with magnetic tension between ancient tradition and dub futurism, East and West, land and spirit.

The album draws largely on Jah Wobble’s signature dub bass, John T’s drums, Chinese percussion and yangqin, and Charlie’s erhu and vocals. Their clever rendition of “Strawberry Fields Forever” also sees Charlie playing morin khuur with the boys' mother Zi Lan Liao — a Royal Academy of Music–trained harpist and the most recognized gu-zheng performer worldwide — joining on gu-zheng.

Jointly produced by Jah Wobble, John T and Charlie, this album was recorded and mixed by John T at Pagoda Studios in Liverpool, where Tian Qiyi is now based.

But the Liverpool connection runs even deeper through their family. Zi Lan’s father, Mr K.H. Li (Liao Gui Xiong), arrived from Guangzhou in 1981 as Chinese Cultural Officer at the Pagoda and went on to establish the Pagoda Chinese Youth Orchestra — the ensemble Zi Lan (now also director of Pagoda Arts Centre) runs and that both her sons grew up playing in from the age of three. The record is dedicated to him; a lifelong Beatles fan, he owned everything they ever released on vinyl.

“The track that flipped it for me as a kid was ‘Strawberry Fields Forever,’” says Jah Wobble. “I didn’t have the language for what was going on in that song — I just knew it was more than music. The words you’d reach for are the ones people use about psychedelia: ego dissolution, a sense of unity, cosmic connection. I consider dub music to fit into the psychedelia genre, and John T grew up listening to dub, so Mystic Liverpool was always going to have that sensibility.”

The album moves through The Beatles’ psychedelic-era songbook with Chinese instrumentation and dub-inflected mixing, treating the material as the genuinely mystical music it always was rather than as nostalgic covers. As listeners will be pleased to discover, "Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band" and "Magical Mystery Tour" are particular touchstones.

'Tomorrow Never Knows' will be available from digital music platforms, including Apple Music and Spotify. On August 14th, the 'Mystic Liverpool' album - now available for pre-order - will be released digitally and as a CD Digipack.

Traditional Heavy Metallers THE UNKNOWN Launch Title-Track from Upcoming Album

Traditional thrashers THE UNKNOWN proudly share the title-track from their upcoming sophomore album, 'Graveyard of Empires,' set for release on September 4th via Mission 84 Productions. The new single arrives alongside an official lyric video premiering on Metal Insider, available below.

"Graveyard of Empires," the title track and second single from the forthcoming album, is a heavy, groove-laden beast with a haunting Middle Eastern undercurrent that sets it apart from anything in the band's catalog. Lyrically, it's a visceral reckoning with a painful pattern of history: nations swallowed whole by occupation, greed, and endless war before they ever had the chance to become what they were meant to be. The song doesn't mourn conquerors. It mourns potential.

On the new track, guitarist Aamir Syed shares:

"'Graveyard of Empires' is the heart of the record, and I think it earns that title. The song is heavy and relentless, but there is an undercurrent of grief. Musically I was drawing from Ritchie Blackmore and Middle Eastern folk and classical music. That combination gave the riff its character. We looked at history and saw the same pattern over and over: nations, people, potential, all swallowed before they became what they could have been."

Ryan Perdz Drops New Track "Time to Pretend" via Big Machine Rock

Buffalo, New York singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Ryan Perdz has released his fan-favorite, fresh reimagination of "Time to Pretend". Prior to today, Perdz released tracks "Sour" and most recently, the emotionally compelling "Heavy Eyes" along with the announcement of his debut album 'Can't Cry', set for release on August 14 via Big Machine Rock. Speaking about "Time to Pretend", Perdz commented:

“'Time to Pretend' is the first cover I’ve ever released. I wanted to record something that I could change the genre and really make my own. The lyrics are so raw and I felt like heavy distortion and new guitar riffs would transform the song into something new. Today, they serve up "2 YOUNG," which features a duet between singer Duddy and his daughter Sophia Lynn, proving that music is indeed the tie that binds.

"I remember Sophia sitting in a high chair while we were writing 'Lay Me Down,' so to now have her featuring on our album is very special. Her voice was meant for this song," states Duddy.

Sophia Lynn weighs in about the track's heft, saying, "Getting to work with Dirty Heads was such a full circle moment for me. This track is so meaningful, and I'm so grateful to be a part of it. As someone who's just stepping into a new chapter of life after graduating high school, these lyrics really resonate with me. COLIN STOUGH GETS GOOD AND GONE ON ROCK-CHARGED NEW TRACK “TRIPPIN’” – OUT NOW

Mississippi native Colin Stough turns the amps up and lets it rip on his new release, “Trippin’,” available now. Listen Below.

Written by Bryan Simpson, Brent Rupard and Anthony Olympia, and produced by Phillip White and Stough, “Trippin’” finds the 21-year-old leaning deeper into his Southern rock roots with a sound built on vintage grit, live-wire guitars and a classic rock pulse inspired by the ’70s and ’80s. Driven by Stough’s gravel-cut vocal, the track captures the mind-bending rush of being knocked sideways by someone who gets under your skin in all the right ways.

“‘Trippin’’ is about when your mind gets all tangled up over a good-looking woman,” Stough shares. “I really leaned into the rock side on this one thanks to my band and the guys down at Muscle Shoals. I love how raw and alive it feels, and I hope everybody else feels that too.”

With swampy swagger, psychedelic imagery and a head-spinning hook, “Trippin’” trades heartbreak for heat, channeling desire into a raw, full-throttle performance. From the punch of the drums to the blown-out guitar tones, the track pushes Stough’s sound further into the space where country storytelling meets rock and roll muscle.

The release follows “21 Year Old Man Blues,” which showcased Stough’s Delta-rooted grit and hard-lived perspective, and continues a growing run of music that reinforces his reputation as one of country’s most uncompromising young voices.

About Colin Stough

Born and raised on the Mississippi-Alabama line, 21-year-old Colin Stough was brought up on Southern rock and second chances. A self-taught guitarist and gravel-voiced storyteller influenced by The Allman Brothers, Conway Twitty and Koe Wetzel, he first picked up a guitar at age eight, later trading prized possessions for a pawn shop acoustic he still plays today. After high school, he worked full-time as an HVAC tech until his mom pushed him to audition for American Idol Season 21. That leap launched a life-changing ride, including a standout third-place finish, a deal with 19 Recordings/BMG Nashville and breakout songs like “Sober,” “’Til The Day One Does” and the hard-edged anthem “White Trash.” With a skinned-raw vocal and lyrics carved from lived experience, Stough has built a loyal following of more than 800k across social platforms. His EPs Promiseland and Lookin’ For Home offer a no-frills portrait of a young man navigating life with Southern grit, while releases including “White Trash,” “20 Bucks,” “Best For You” and “21 Year Old Man Blues” showcase his no-holds-barred storytelling. Stoned Jesus Go Deeper and Darker on New Single “Under the Skin”

Stoned Jesus are true trailblazers. While often associated with the stoner crowd, the heavy progressive rockers have experimented with folk, prog, pop and alternative rock amidst familiar doses of doom. Last year, the band entered the first phase of an expansive album trilogy that promises to take them from the sun to the moon and back. Songs to Sun was named one of the best albums of 2025 by Doom Charts, Rock Hard, The Obelisk and other outlets. Now, as frontman Igor Sydorenko and his bandmates prepare to blaze through the European summer festival circuit, they’re cycling into the next phase of their evolution.

Today, Stoned Jesus are releasing a new single. Though packed with the band’s reliable dose of heaviness, the progressive post-metal contained within “Under the Skin” shows them entering the darkest, most daring and deeply moving territory of their 17-year career.  

“Our upcoming album trilogy started last year with Songs to Sun, which is a loud and heavy album that’s big on choruses and meaty riffs”, Sydorenko says before turning to Stoned Jesus’ latest single. “‘Under the Skin’ begins our next phase in a somewhat similar fashion, but with a sinister twist. The fans of the very first SJ demo will recognize the influence of post-metal, which resurfaced after our tour last summer with the legendary Cult of Luna. But “Under the Skin” is not a step back. It’s darker, bolder and more introspective than anything the band has done before”.

On the surface, “Under the Skin” picks up right where Stoned Jesus left off. The sinking anxiety that swallowed Songs to Sun gives way here to heavy breathing. And while catchy as ever, the song’s weighty riff isn’t the only dark force that’s rattling inside Sydorenko’s head. “I feel it, it’s creeping in”, he strains, backed by bassist Andrew Rodin, who adds some of the harshest vocals the band have ever pressed to wax.  

The video for “Under the Skin” was filmed while Stoned Jesus were recording in Cologne, Germany at Goblin Sound Studio with sound engineer Andy Rosczyk (ex-Ultha). Despite the song’s bleary state of mind (“Promises to keep / I will never sleep”), the band never lose their glow. As drummer Yurii Ciel guides them through a proggy middle passage that leads deeper into the shadows, we catch a glimpse not only into their psyche but the shape of what’s to come. “Sky glider, gone wilder / With the setting sun”.

Fallweather Announce 'Because You Were There' Album Set For August 19 Release via Papercut Recordings & Drop "Mourn" Track and Official Video

Melbourne, Australia post-hardcore quartet Fallweather have announced their debut album 'Because You Were There', out Wednesday, August 19 via their new label home, Papercut Recordings. The band has also dropped their new single "Mourn" and the official music video. When asked about the inspiration behind the track, vocalist Cullen Forbes shared:

“After the last few years of chronic illnesses and health struggles, "Mourn" is about how I've forgotten how I used to feel before, and I’m tired of feeling like I’m falling apart.”

Fallweather will also soon be hitting the road across Australia with Hail The Sun and Reliqa, starting Thursday, June 25, in Brisbaneand ending on Tuesday, June 30, in Perth. Pre-order 'Because You Were There' at the link here, stream "Mourn" here and watch the official music video below.

Defiled Premiere New Album 'Altered State'

Defiled aren’t relics or custodians for the old-school. While the Japanese legends have shared stages with Morbid Angel, Mayhem, Cannibal Corpse and Incantation since the early ‘90s, they’ve carved their own unmistakable path through death metal’s hallowed crypts. With their new album, founding member Yusuke Sumita and his band of technical masters continue to alter the genre in unthinkable ways. On Altered State, they deliver a dizzying blast of death metal straight from the future.  

Altered State comes out tomorrow, Friday, June 12 on Season of Mist, but you can hear all 14 mind-altering songs today by listening to the full album stream below.

“Like many other bands, our musical roots are heavily influenced by early ‘90s death metal and ‘80s thrash and hardcore, however, our interpretation is different and has branched off from the current scene”, Sumita says. “On Altered State, there are many catchy hooks, but tricky progressive rhythms and song structures can be found as well. The album may not be understandable after a few listens, but it taps into a blind spot that many bands have missed. We invite anyone to join us in exploring the outermost edges of the genre”.

Ho99o9 Unleash Blistering New Anthem "Power in Numbers"

Ho99o9 return with “Power In Numbers,” a blistering new anthem that captures the band at their most direct, urgent, and confrontational. Fusing industrial hip-hop with hardcore punk intensity, the single delivers a powerful message rooted in unity, resistance, and collective strength, reinforcing the duo’s reputation as one of the most uncompromising voices in alternative music.

“Power In Numbers” is a cultural statement that channels the chaos of the current moment and emphasizes the strength of solidarity and shared resistance. The track draws from the lineage of protest music, balancing chaos and control to reinforce its central message of collective power. 

Known for pushing boundaries across genre and culture, Ho99o9 continue to blur the lines between punk, rap, industrial, and hardcore, creating music that is as politically charged as it is sonically destructive. “Power In Numbers” further expands the group’s fearless approach, designed to provoke, energize, and unite.

Recently, the band performed a free show for fans in Los Angeles at Pacific Electric, in conjunction with clothing and graphic apparel tastemakers, Civil Regime. The show served as a send-off for Ho99o9, who kick off their summer European and UK dates today (full dates below).  

Tomorrow We Escape, Ho99o9’s third album, was released recently via 999 Deathkult / Last Gang. A true amalgamation of all the band’s influences, including experimental hip-hop, digital hardcore, future-facing punk, metal, jarring industrial, and off-kilter electronics, the album is their most emotional offering to date, rooted in personal struggle and triumph. It exemplifies the outfit’s collaborative spirit, featuring Nova Twins, Chelsea Wolfe, Greg Puciato, MoRuf, Pink Siifu, and more. Trayer Tryon of avant darlings Hundred Waters (and with prod on recent breakthroughs - The Hellp, Sam Austins, 2Hollis, Alto Arc……) mixes and masters the album, further refining a new sonic landscape, harnessing the very best of the chaos that fans have come to know and love, with a fresh injection of newfound melodies, space, and crystalline production.

The New Jersey-bred outfit made its way to Los Angeles over a decade ago. Surging and seething just below the surface, the pair broke through as an apocalyptically fascinating outlier with their 2017 full-length debut, United States of Horror. PLAIINS Share New Single "Look Ma, I'm a Don" — LISTEN

British x German alt punks PLAIINS are back with a venomous and vibrantly catchy new anthem that targets the hollow bravado of modern pick-up culture. Building on the massive momentum of over 3 million streams and rave reviews from Visions and Kerrang! describing them as "cartoonishly gobby," the band's latest single, "Look Ma, I'm a Don"  is a masterclass in satirical songwriting. 

The song combines a catchy Brit pop-leaning chorus with the raw, unedited feel of The Libertines through its dual-guitar interplay, anchored by a melodic bass line that Paul McCartney would be proud of. One of the track's most brilliant moments is a cheeky Beyoncé reference: "Say my name, say my name," which perfectly highlights the irony of a character who demands to be known while treating others like disposable products.

PLAIINS comment on the new single, "'Look Ma, I'm a Don' is a song poking fun at pick-up culture and the consumerist mindset driving it. The character sees himself as some kind of big-shot 'Don.' while in reality he’s just a hurt little boy trying to fill a void and earn recognition from his mum. It's a critique of treating relationships like a numbers game — keeping the body count high and consuming people like products."

Jack White has announced the release of his forthcoming seventh studio album, Frozen Charlotte, arriving via Third Man Records on Friday, July 10. Alongside the announcement, White released the new single “Dollar Bill” which is available on all DSPs and streaming services. The album will be available on black vinyl; a limited-edition “Zug Island Blue” as the Third Man Records exclusive vinyl; a limited-edition “Chrome” for the Jack White tour and webstore; and a limited-edition “Ice Blue” for independent record stores.
