Mississippi native Colin Stough turns the amps up and lets it rip on his new release, “Trippin’,” available now. Listen Below.
Written by Bryan Simpson, Brent Rupard and Anthony Olympia, and produced by Phillip White and Stough, “Trippin’” finds the 21-year-old leaning deeper into his Southern rock roots with a sound built on vintage grit, live-wire guitars and a classic rock pulse inspired by the ’70s and ’80s. Driven by Stough’s gravel-cut vocal, the track captures the mind-bending rush of being knocked sideways by someone who gets under your skin in all the right ways.
“‘Trippin’’ is about when your mind gets all tangled up over a good-looking woman,” Stough shares. “I really leaned into the rock side on this one thanks to my band and the guys down at Muscle Shoals. I love how raw and alive it feels, and I hope everybody else feels that too.”
With swampy swagger, psychedelic imagery and a head-spinning hook, “Trippin’” trades heartbreak for heat, channeling desire into a raw, full-throttle performance. From the punch of the drums to the blown-out guitar tones, the track pushes Stough’s sound further into the space where country storytelling meets rock and roll muscle.
The release follows “21 Year Old Man Blues,” which showcased Stough’s Delta-rooted grit and hard-lived perspective, and continues a growing run of music that reinforces his reputation as one of country’s most uncompromising young voices.

Born and raised on the Mississippi-Alabama line, 21-year-old Colin Stough was brought up on Southern rock and second chances. A self-taught guitarist and gravel-voiced storyteller influenced by The Allman Brothers, Conway Twitty and Koe Wetzel, he first picked up a guitar at age eight, later trading prized possessions for a pawn shop acoustic he still plays today. After high school, he worked full-time as an HVAC tech until his mom pushed him to audition for American Idol Season 21. That leap launched a life-changing ride, including a standout third-place finish, a deal with 19 Recordings/BMG Nashville and breakout songs like “Sober,” “’Til The Day One Does” and the hard-edged anthem “White Trash.” With a skinned-raw vocal and lyrics carved from lived experience, Stough has built a loyal following of more than 800k across social platforms.
